This cemetery is on Lee Road 239, also known as the Low Road. Take Hwy 44 to
I,
my sister, Cricket, and my brother, Andrew, transcribed this cemetery on
October 23, 2005. There were
several groupings of stones, perhaps family plots. In addition, the land owner told us of
one Chinese grave that was to the right of the others. We located the stone leaned against a
tree for Craven B. Chin that was actually the oldest burial that we found. He died in 1897. There were broken bricks everywhere not
far from the tree, also. Several of
the other stones had the numbers “1965” engraved inside a circle on
them either at the top or the bottom.
I don’t know the significance of this number, since none of them
were born or died in the year 1965.
Maybe it was the year that the stone was erected. As always, there were many unmarked
graves.
If
you know of anyone else buried here, and would like to add their name, please contact me. I can also create a link for you to any
of these names if you find someone that belongs to your family. The information presented is as correct
as possible, however you may want to verify its accurateness.
