This
Family Cemetery is located near Bear Creek Lake in Marianna, AR. This list was compiled from notes that I
took in 2000, photographs that I |
took
in June 2004, and notes compiled by Mary Anderson. I want to thank Mary for her contributions
and allowing me to compare hard-to-read |
names and dates to
her list. Also, a special thanks to my
parents, Darrel & Martha (Harris) Roberts and to Uncle Jerry & Aunt
Peggy (Harris) Hudson |
for
their help cleaning up the grounds so I could finish this list and take
photos of each stone. |
I am a direct descendant of |
William
Henry Harris (#19) & Viola Middleton Harris (#20); |
Charlie Harris (#15)
& Lillian Higgins Harris (#17); |
and Thomas H. Harris
(#8) & Nancy Harris (#11), |
so this cemetery has
a very special meaning to me. |
Some
of these stones are very old and very hard to read. I have listed as exactly as possible what
is visible on each stone. I have
numbered the |
graves,
in no particular order, for easy reference.
There are many areas that noticably have graves, but no markers. The earliest death date I |
could
find was 1856. This was supposedly an old Indian burial ground with graves
all the way out to the gravel road. If
you know of anyone else |
buried here or you
see corrections or updates that need to be made, please email me and I will
add that information. If you find a
relative, I will be |
happy to create a
link to you. |
Information
on the Hale Family at the top of the hill was updated by Dwayne Hawpe
<epwahdaxter@cox.net> on December 10, 2004. They are the |
descendants
of his gggrandfather's sister Susan Jane Hawpe. He believes that I found the individual
graves of some at the top of the hill and a |
monument
(the tapered, obelisk stone) with their full names and dates that may have
been added years later. I have added
his comments below. |
