Location:
This cemetery is 3 miles north of Marianna on the east side of Hwy 1. Here is a satellite picture of the area where the
cemetery was next to a “Y” shaped ravine.
Monty Hill
submitted this cemetery on October 23, 2005. He only recently learned of the
whereabouts of the cemetery after finding a letter to his Uncle from his Great
Uncle. Unfortunately, the
headstones have ended up in the ravine.
Therefore, there is no way to confirm who was actually buried there
other than his Great-Grandfather, James Harrison Hill, and his wife, Ida Lee
Jones Hill, and presumably his first wife, Mary Caroline Smith. It is “assumed” that since
Ida’s family owned the property previously, that this might also be the
final resting place of her parents.
Monty has found two letters which identified the grave site, but
didn’t list all of the people.
All the people who would know who was buried there are long
deceased. The land is called
“Felton” on the map, but was previously known as the Hill
plantation.
James Harrison Hill was born in 1848 in
