I am searching for information on the HAYNES family in Hempstead County in the mid to late
1800's. My gggg gf Edward Haynes is on the 1860 census in Hempstead Co. (spelled "Edard
HAINES" in index--took me a while to find him). He was a Primitive Baptist minister, and helped
establish several early Baptist churches in the area. The last record I have of him in Arkansas is a
marriage he performed in Hempstead Co. in 1861. A family history written by his nephew J. J.
Haynes states that he died in Hood Co., TX in 1868, but I can find no record of him there.
Edward Haynes was the brother of Henry Haynes, who is buried with many members of his family
in Macedonia Cemetery in Hempstead Co. There is a 10-year-old daughter(?) with Edward and
wife Arry HICKS on the 1860 census named Matilda Englant(?) Haynes(?). I am also searching
for any information about her. Barbara Ray

Need parents of Thomas HOLMAN: Thomas Holman was born about 1800 in North Carolina.
He was present in Clark County, Territory of Arkansas, as early as 1829. Living nearby was a
Joseph Holman, perhaps a younger brother or nephew to Thomas. During the 1830/1840s
Thomas and wife Levisa (poss. KNAPP) were present in Saline and Hot Spring Counties,
Arkansas, until his death in 1844. The youngest children of Thomas and Levisa were Joseph (b.
1836 AR) and Thomas (b. 1838 AR). Thomas (b. 1800) may have had a daughter or sister named
Elizabeth who was found to have married a James L. Knapp during 1844 in Hot Spring Co.,
Arkansas. Following the death of Thomas, Levisa remarried to a John TRAMMELL Sr. and
relocated, with husband and sons Joseph and Thomas, to Hempstead County, AR, by 1850 census.

I have been on several lists for years and I am re-running my information in hopes of making a
connection. I am looking for death records, marriage records, birth records, or anything else that
might prove useful. My family: John Thomas INGRAM m Louisa LINK 1/5/1881 in
Independence AR. He is my gg-grandfather. I don't actually know where he was born, but I
do have his death info and I know where he is buried. Louisa Link Ingram died along with a baby
Ingram and 12 year old Sophia Ingram. The info I have said she is buried in Hempstead TX, but I
am thinking Hempstead Co AR. I was hoping someone might have cemetery records on
her or maybe the 1880 census records on her or John Thomas Ingram. I am looking for his
parents or other siblings. Mary Ellen (Ella) Ingram m George W GUNN 9/22/1881 in
Independence AR. She is my John Thomas Ingram's sister. Any info on their children would
be helpful. I have their death info and I know where they are buried. Again, if anyone has the
1880 or 1890 census records and could help me find their parents or siblings. These families
eventually came to Texas and I have all that info. I am looking for where these families were
from and the other siblings. I believe their fathers name was James L Ingram. I received an obit
from Washington Co AR on James Ingram who was shoot down in the street in 1870. Could
possibly be their father. Any leads on this family would be great. Thanks, Linda Ingram

Looking for information of Vance SMILEY who died August 1998 at age 86. William L. Winter
wrote "The Real Man From Hope" about Vance Smiley that appeared in the Democrat-Gazette.
My grandmother's grandfather was Joshua Daniel Smiley who came to Lonoke County area from
Alabama in about 1880. There was a son Henry and I am wondering if Vance might be Henry's
son. Any information about Smileys would be appreciated. Lynn

STEWART -- My biggest family mystery comes from Hempstead county, and I'm hoping
someone out there has a piece of the puzzle. I am searching for any information on William
Stewart, b. abt. 1837, married Sarah Ellen HYDEN, Apr 10, 1861, Hempstead Co. However, he
does not appear in the 1860 Hempstead census. He served in the CSA, Co. H, 17 Ark Inf., and
died in a Little Rock Hospital during the war of what was probably pneumonia. I am at a dead
end. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Pamela Cossey

Lt. George W COOK, Jr -- I have reason to believe the above was listed in the 1860 cencus of
Hempstead county at Washington, AR . Stories are that he died in Mississippi later on from an
illnes and not from battle wounds. Maybe a Store clerk in Washington. Maybe his daddy was
Capt. Geo W Cook whose title was not so much a military Title as militia in tenn.. Cpt Geo Cook
died in Clark county in 1888. One Of his sons was dempsey ? cook, who married Madora
RANDOLPH from Memphis, TN. The Cooks originally came from NC to TN and to AR. Tom

I am researching the family of Martin Van Buren SALYERS living in Wallaceburg Twp of
Hempstead Co. AR in 1900. It's reported he was born in Oct 1845 in MO. but he lived much of
his life in Montgomery Co. AR. I would like to find out when he moved to Hempstead Co., when
and where he died and where he is buried. It would also be nice to know when and where he
married his wife, Mandy. I will be happy to exchange information I have on older children.
Thanks, Fran. Mary F. "Fran" Salyer, 5301 SE 45th Place, Oklahoma City, OK 73135, (405)

I am searching for information on James H. CAMPBELL, and his brother, William Lindsey
Campbell. They appear on the Hempstead Co. Census in 1860, but between then and 1850,
when they were living with siblings in Hinds Co. MS., they moved to Morehouse Parish, LA and
William married a Rose or Rosanne (last name unknown). James was in his 30's before he
married in Hempstead Co. to Martha CLEGHORN, and had a large family. William L. died in
1864 in the Civil War. He served with the Ark. 19th Infantry. His wife never remarried, but lived
in Nevada Co. but I believe this to be after the county of Hempstead was divided up, so she may
have still been living in the same house, but counties changed. Could anyone help me on these
Campbells. They are my great Uncles and I would love to contact any of their descendents who
may be still around in that area. Thanks
