I'm looking for information on an Allen SHIPP. His parents were Charlie Shipp and Verna
AMMONS. He married Mamie MARTIN. His grandfather was born in Georgia in 1832. (I don't
have any dates for Charlie or Allen.) I know Charlie ran a store in the area, before moving to
Texarkana. From the information that I have, Allen was either the Chief of Police of Hope,
Arkansas or the Sheriff of Hempstead County. Any help would be helpful! Thanks in advance! JD

This is submitted in answer to Charles Lane query. Eliga CAREY and his wife, Elizabeth Carey
made a deed of gift of a parcel of land in which two acres were to be used for a Missionary
Baptist Church and neighborhood school with the privileges of other Christian Sects preaching
there when not in use by the Missionary Baptist, reserving to the Church the rivilege of continuing
protracted meetings without disturbance of the school...witnesses, J.R.H. Cummings and William
Bateman. Hempstead County Deed Book N, page 443. John Bush Robins and wife joined the
church in 1860, he was licensed to preach in 1864, ordained in 1866 and became the first regular
pastora. When the church was organized, a Presbytery consisting of Elders Don Cochran of
County Line CHurch and Eliga Carey of Ozan Church met and after a sermon, the principles of
the Red River Association were adopted. A Church Covenant was agreed to by Brothers and
Sisters desiring to be organized; William Craig with a letter from upper Duncaaries Creek, SC:
Robert Dillarad from Pleasant Grove, Hempstead Co.; C. Clarak from Friendship, Al; Bro. W.
Webb from GA, together with Jane Bateman, Jane Ludwell, Milly Singleton and Sister Norris
were received by vouchers. By letter; Mary Thomas, Francis Carey and Elizabeth Carey. After
prayer the Presbytery extended to said Brothers and sisters the right hand of fellowship, declaring
them a Church of Christ according to gosopel orders to be known as Zion Baptist Church, April
21, 1857.
