I'm researching Erasmus Williamson WINN who married Rosa Lucinda BOWDEN in 1885 in
Hempstead. I believe they were both born in or around Hope in 1858 (EW) and 1869 (Rosa).
Among the children born in Hope were Oma Edmund, Willis, Eliza, and Lorene. They were both
active members in Melrose Baptist which, I'm told, evolved into First Baptist church. Rosa was
the daughter of George and Malissa J. (Rayburn) Bowden who moved to Hope before they
started their family. Although Erasmus was born in Hope, I don't know who his parents were. I
suspect that they were Daniel R. and Eliza Winn but I'm looking for positive connection. Any
help would be most appreciated! Thanks, Bill House (in South Carolina) (PS - Thanks to Mary
Nell Turner of Hope for what I know of these folks)

I am searching for clues on the whereabouts of Edward HAYNES in about 1860. He was a
Baptist minister, one of the first at Shiloh Baptist Church in Columbia Co., and performed a
marriage in Hempstead Co. as late as 1861, but I cannot find him on the census in 1860. He is on
the 1850 census in Jefferson Township in Ouachita Co., but seems to have disappeared in 1860.
He was a brother of Henry Haynes, another Baptist minister who is buried in Macedonia
Cemetery in Hempstead Co. Barbara Ray, trebor@hal-pc.org

I am looking for Ernest KNIGHT (12/27/1872 to 4/6/1972) who lived in Bingen, Arkansas. The
first problem I have to solve is a complete lack of knowledge about Arkansas in general and
Bingen in particular. I did a search for it on the GNIS site and it's a "populated place" in
Hempstead County. It's not listed in the 1900, 1910 or 1920 census for Arkansas. I tried the
library, but Bingen isn't listed in any of the books the librarian suggested. Can someone tell me
what township has Bingen within its borders? Thank you very much for any help you can give

Joab B. POWELL is listed in the 1880 Hempstead County census with wife Louisa and son
Albert. He bought land on May 20, 1862. His daughter Mary married John Forrester
DOUGLASS in 1870. At the age of 69 he married Mrs. Rebecca Louvenia ACKER FRENCH on
6-7-1884. Interested in when his wife Lousia died. Information that she died in 1885 is most
likely incorrect in that Joab married Ms. French in 1884. Joab's daughter Mary died 9-10-85.
Any further information on Joab Powell and family would be greatly appreciated.
