Who was James SPRY? Where did he really come from? James came to work on the farm of Hugh Wesley ALLEN before 1888. He married Hugh's daughter, Eugenia Cornelia Allen, (born March 15, 1868 in Hempstead) abt 1888. The family listed his birth place as North Carolina (maybe) and birth date 1858. After marriage, they lived in Saratoga and Foreman, Arkansas. In 11900, he worked in Indian Territory. He worked as a lumber man after leaving the farm. He left the family around 1903. How would you trace someone who led a transient life in lumber camps?

In looking at the death of the NATIONS children in Hempstead Co., in 1859, I find that six Nations children died within 2 1/2 months of each other, four within two days. One Martha died on March 5, 1859, one Mary died on May 3, 1859, one Thomas died on May 15, 1859, and three Nathaniel, John, and Margaret all died on May 16, 1959. Does anyone know what happened in Hempstead County about then that would cause deaths of this type? Thinking it may have been some kind of epidemic. Any ideas???
