BUTLER, Samuel Gordon from Spring Hill in 1891. I have a marriage license that says my great
grandfather, Samuel Gordon Butler, was 40 years old when he married Mary Elizabeth
LAFFERTY on September 8, 1891 in Lively, Arkansas (Hempstead County, near Spring Hill).
He supposedly came into Spring Hill, married her, fathered two children, Roy and Gordon, and
then left a few years later. No one knows where he came from or went to, but some say he moved
to Texas and that he wrote regularly but that Mary tore up the letters. One census record (1900, I
think) shows AL as the birthplace of Roy and Gordon's father. Thanks. David Butler
