THE ENROLLMENT FOR THE YEAR 1940-41 FOR THE EIGHTH GRADE IS FORTY-SIX AND THE SEVENTH
GRADE SEVENTY-ONE. THESE GRADES HAVE FOUR CLASSES DAILY AND THREE STUDY PERIODS. MR. SCHMUECKER TEACHES ENGLISH AND SPELLING ONE PERIOD DAILY FOR EACH GRADE. THE FIRST HALF OF YEAR MISS SHEARER TAUGHT LITERATURE ONE PERIOD DAILY AND THE SECOND SEMESTER SHE HAS CLASSES IN SOCIAL SCIENCE FOR BOTH GRADES. MRS. SPENCE TEACHES TWO CLASSES DAILY FOR EACH GRADE IN ARITHMETIC AND SCIENCE. AFTER COMPLETING THE SCIENCE TESTS, THE EIGHTH GRADE COMPLETED A REVIEW OF GRADE SCHOOL GEOGRAPHY. IN THIS STUDY THEY HAVE MADE MANY INTERESTING MAPS SHOWING RELIEF AND CLIMATIC CONDITIONS, PRODUCTS, BOTH AGRICULTURAL AND MINERAL, AND FACTS OF POPULATION. THE FIRST SEMESTER THE SEVENTH GRADE SCIENCE CLASS STUDIED GEOGRAPHY MAKING SEVERAL MAPS, AND THE SECOND SEMESTER THE CLASS HAS USED HEALTH AND GENERAL SCIENCE TEXTS AND IS KEEPING NOTE BOOKS OF THEIR WORRK. THE VARIOUS HOLIDAYS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED IN CUSTOMARY MANNER; BOTH GRADES HAD CHRISTMAS TREES AND VALENTINE BOXES. THESE GRADES HAVE FURNISHED ENTERTAINMENT FOR THREE ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS. BESIDES THE ANNUAL PICNIC TO WALCOTT, THE EIGHTH GRADE HAS HAD TWO CLASS PARTIES. ON MARCH 28 THESE GRADES TOOK PART IN THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TRACK MEET. THE SEVENTH GRADE RECEIVED 43 POINTS AND WON OVER THE 8TH AND 9TH GRADES. THE 7TH AND 8TH GAVE A PROGRAM THURSDAY EVENING APRIL 17, FOR THE PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF LAKESIDE DISTRICT. |
