John Thomas Stroud

 

John Thomas Stroud, 37, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born Aug. 11, 1965, in Tucson, Ariz. He was a professional photographer and former housefather at Children's Homes in Paragould. He was also a member of Center Hill Church of Christ and attended school in Tucson; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Brownsville, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Denise Stroud of the home; his parents, Odgen and Mary Stroud of Levelland, Texas; a son, David Stroud of the home; a daughter, Sarah Stroud of the home; a brother, David Stroud of Edgewood, N.M.; a sister, Pamala Shreve of Plano, Texas; four nephews; and three nieces.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Center Hill Church of Christ in Paragould with Gary Cremeens officiating. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Terry Tripp, Brad Beasley, Brent Renfrow, Jimmy Dowdy and Steve Parker.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

The family requests memorials be made to Paragould Children's Homes CHACE program.

 

Mike  Hyde


Mike Hyde, 46, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He was a self-employed painter and a member of the Pine Knot Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Hyde of Paragould; one son, Billy Hyde of Paragould; one daughter, Barbara Mackin of Bardstown, Ky.; his mother and stepfather, Nina and John Edrington; one sister, Leigh Ann Barber of Bardstown; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hyde; one brother; and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Jody McFadden and Art Smith.

*The funeral will be held jointly with services for his brother, Phillip Hyde.

Burial will be at Pine Knot Cemetery in Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Charles White, Trent Wood, Terry Hinson, Wayne Dillon and Joe Bolick.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Matthew Travis Harvey


Matthew Travis Harvey, 22, of Paragould died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at his residence.

Born at Flint, Mich., he was a student at Arkansas State University.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Keith and Rebecca Harvey of Light; his mother, Kathy Harvey of Knoxville, Tenn.; his stepfather, Jerry Miley of Knoxville; two sisters, Dana Taylor of Knoxville and Krissy Harvey of Chicago; one stepbrother, Charles LaPiro of Light; his paternal grandmother, Alma Harvey of Paragould; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Kathy Hewlett of Orchard Lake, Mich.; and his great-grandmother, Diana Abe of Farmington, Mich.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Albert Camp officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J.C. Pillow, Jesse Mitchell, Seth Overton, Aaron Camp, Josh Mitchell and Kirk Cupp.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Linda Lou Pittman


Linda Lou Pittman, 60, of Bono died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, she lived in Bono for 31 years, was a member of the Herman Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Association at the church. She was a cafeteria worker at Westside School.

Survivors include her husband, David Pittman of the home; one son, Norman Pittman of Jonesboro; two daughters, Sheila Foreman of Westminister, Colo., and Jeanette Smith of Cherry Valley; his stepmother, Opal Caudle of Brookland; one brother, Fred Caudle of Waterman, Ill.; one sister, Rick McCall of Sycamore, Ill.; three half brothers, Larry Caudle, Gary Caudle and Timmy Caudle, all of Paragould; one half sister, Diane Caudle of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Amy Sheets, Blake Pittman, Brock Smith, Betty Pittman and Kalina Smith; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home chapel in Jonesboro, with Bill Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Phelps, Jim Pittman, Thomas Wheeler, Harold Wayne Hoots, Nicholas Pittman and Tommy Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers will include Dewayne Pittman and the Senior Adult Class of Herman Baptist Church.

Daniel Wayne Tabor


Daniel Wayne Tabor, 23, of Paragould died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Randolph County Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, he was a landscaper for Northeast Arkansas Turf Care and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his mother, Brenda Kay Weir of Paragould; one brother, John Shannon Tabor of Paragould; one sister, Glayla Johnson of Benton; his maternal grandmother, Virginia Harris of Paragould; and his fiance, Crystal Nelson of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Wayne Tabor; and his stepfather, Anthony Weir.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould, with Marvin Emmons officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Juanita Lorene Johnson


Juanita Lorene Johnson, 81, of Paragould died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born in Walnut Ridge, she was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Morgan Johnson and James Johnson, both of Paragould; one daughter, Jerris Ann Miller of Paragould; two brothers, George Gosha of Jacksonville and Rudolph Gosha of Sedgwick; one half sister, Sylvia Adams of Lynn; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Johnson, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel, with Gene Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Knott Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Miller, Hugh Johnson, Tim Johnson, Jeff Carson, Billy Johnson, Josh Carson, Brian Sides and Chris Johnson.

Martha L.White


Martha Lee (Carter) White, 84, of House Springs, formerly of Paragould, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at Valley Park, Mo.

Born in Paragould, she had worked as a nurse at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center for more than 20 years and was a member of Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, William White of House Springs; one granddaughter, Shawn Hurtgen of Festus, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene “Gene” White.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Robert Hurtgen officiating. Burial will follow at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

 

Doris Thompson


Doris Thompson, 49, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at her residence.

Born in Greenville, Ky., she was a member of Lake Street Baptist Church and served as a foster parent for Mid-South Health Systems.

Survivors include two daughters, Tiffany Thompson of the home and Destiny Erwin of Jonesboro; 30 foster children; four brothers, John Horn of Waco, Texas, Robert Horn of Norris City, Ill., and Billy Horn and Tom Horn, both of Enfield, Ill.; six sisters, Marjorie Welsh of Owensboro, Ky., Mary Buchham of Wallace, Idaho, Ann Rynearson of Westville, Ind., Suzie Gill of Orangevale, Calif., and Betty Mahan and Laura Cox, both of Lafayette, Ind.; two grandchildren, Brittany Erwin and Brianna Erwin, both of Jonesboro; and two foster grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilty and Ruby Horn, and two brothers.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould, with Don Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Nick Watson, Terry Brannon, Jeff Easley, Travis VanDon, Marty Browning and Walter Dulaney.
Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Mitchell, Gary Thompson and her nephews.

Harry H. Pritchard


Harry H. Pritchard Jr., 78, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born at Paragould, he was a retired brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Pritchard of the home; one son, Michael Sims of Mims, Texas; four daughters, Carolyn Michael, Brenda Vester and Fran Summers, all of Paragould, and Linda Baker of Jefferson, Texas; one stepson, Bobby Yeargain of Harrisburg; one stepdaughter, Nova Grissom of Paragould; one brother, Jesse Tom "Bud" Pritchard of Humboldt, Tenn.; one sister, Becky Miles of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry H. Pritchard Sr., and his mother, Dessie May Simmons Pritchard.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould, with M.W. Ray and Trumann Wycoff officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Frank Miles, Robby Arnold, Matthew Garrett, Jeremy Huggins and Josh McFall.

Mary Snowden Huffman


Funeral services for Mary Snowden Huffman, 93, of Paragould, who died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at Greene Acres Nursing Home, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould. David Chappell will officiate, and burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rob Frederick, Robert Dean, Rob Thornton, Lynn Burroughs and Roy McSpadden.

Born in Paragould, she was a retired licensed practical nurse, had worked as a cook for Colonial Restaurant and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Nancy Chappell of Bartlett, Tenn.; a sister, Totsi Burroughs of Paragould; three grandchildren, Melissa Thornton, Kristi Dean and Rob Frederick; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Huffman; her parents, Albert and Beulah Snowden; a brother; two half brothers; and a sister.

Paul Wayne Hayden


Funeral services for Paul Wayne Hayden, 21, of Leachville who died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Howard Funeral Service of Leachville. Tim Bassing will officiate, and burial will follow at Leachville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will include Hayes Howell, John David Bridges, Dennis Oliver, Michael Ballard, Keith Mullen and Brandon Decker.

Born at Paragould, Hayden was a lifelong Leachville resident who attended Buffalo Island Central schools. A member of First United Methodist Church in Leachville, he worked on his family's farm.

Survivors include his parents, Mari Hayden of Leachville and Darrell Hayden of Paragould; and maternal grandparents, Jim and Nan Bridges of Leachville.
He was preceded in death by a paternal grandmother, Vama Hayden.

Craig Shane Darter, 33, of Paragould died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at his residence.

Born in Kennett, Mo., he worked as a self-employed drywall finisher.

Survivors include his parents, Carroll and Gilbretta Darter of Paragould; a sister, Kellie Cole of Paragould; and maternal grandparents, R.W. Williams of Imboden and Rita Sanders of Rector.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Graveside services for Susan Annette Newman, 37, of Paragould, who died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at her home, will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Bill Newman will officiate and burial will follow under the direction of Mitchell Fuenral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Chris Newman, Tommy Newman, C.J. Dunigan, Tommy Newman Sr., Terry Newman and Travis Maxwell.

Born in Paragould, she was a homemaker and of the Assembly of God belief.

Survivors include her husband, Tony Newman of Paragould; two sons, Billy Chad Newman and Brett Allen Newman, both of the home; one daughter, Misti Annette Newman of Paragould; three brothers, David Rodgers of Florida, Mike Rodgers of Pocaontas and Steve Rodgers of Monticello; two sisters, Janet Ramsey of Fort Smith and Cheryl Davis of Little Rock; and two grandchildren, Elijah Michael Maxwell and Kaleb Chad Newman.

Bryson Seth Morris, 1, of Paragould died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at Paragould.

He was born in Paragould.

Survivors include his parents, Melinda Woods and Michael Morris, both of Paragould; one brother, Dalton Morris of Paragould; his maternal grandparents, Linda and Earl Reed and Clifford Hanks, all of Paragould; and his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Katherine Morris of Bono.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Morrow Cemetery in Stanford, with the Rev. Marion Gramling officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Elois Berry, 63, of Paragould, who died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at her residence, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel in Paragould, with the Rev. Jerry Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Paragould.

Born in Dyess, she was retired from Emerson Electric in Paragould. She was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include her husband, David Berry of Paragould; three sons, Charles Berry, Gary Berry and Michael Berry, all of Paragould; two daughters, Lisa Adams of Paragould and Shelia Garnett of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Ben Burns of Paragould and Gene Burns of Mountain Home; five sisters, Inez Foster, Charlotte Henley and Joetta Thrasher, all of Paragould, Melba Humphrey of Clarkton, Mich., and Faye Smith of Mountain Home; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lloyd and Notra Viola Hogan Burns, and one brother.

Funeral services for Estie Josephine Dawson, 92, of Lake City, who died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at Lake City Nursing Home, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel in Paragould, with the Rev. Sam Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.
Pallbearers will be Jerry McFall, Zac Hailey, Cody Wilcox, Denny Johnston, Rick Dawson and Brad Dawson.

Born in Hohenwald, Tenn., she was a retired shoe factory worker and was a member of West View Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, James Dawson of Monette; three daughters, Pauline Austin, Jerry Dawson and Christine Martin, all of Paragould; 13 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Davis

Roger Bruce Partain


Roger Bruce Partain, 38, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center of NEA.
Born in South Haven, Mich., he was a cabinet maker and a member of Bethel Faith Tabernacle in Jonesboro.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Daniels Partain of the home; two sons, Rocky Partain and Bryon Partain, both of the home; one daughter, Disa Partain of the home; his mother, Geneva Raines Nest of Pawpaw, Mich.; his father, Earl Partain of Trumann; one brother, James Edward Partain of Motton, Mich.; and one sister, Donna Jean Griffin of Kalamazoo, Mich.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Jimmy Allen and the Rev. Sonny Allen officiating. Burial will be at Cross Roads Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Palllbearers will include Jerry Sullins, Ronnie Norman, Jessie Warren, Earl Owens, Roy Haynes, Jr., and Tommy Rich.

Raymon Pyburn


Raymon Pyburn, 88, of the Lester Community, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 at his home.

Born in Peach Orchard, he was of the Assembly of God belief, a retired farmer, and the retired owner and operator of Pyburn Grocery Store in Lester.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Pyburn of the home; one daughter, Esther Williams of Lake City; three sons, Fred Pyburn of Lake City and Bob Pyburn and Tom Pyburn, both of Lester; three sisters, Mary Melton of Bell Gardens, Calif., Martha Smith of Hemet, Calif., and Nan Welch of Frankston, Texas; two brothers, the Rev. Nate Pyburn of Snyder, Texas, and the Rev. Frank Pyburn of Fontana, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home chapel in Lake City, with the Rev. Starley Baker and the Rev. Anthony Hogue officiating. Burial will follow at Pruitt Cemetery near Paragould.
Pallbearers will be Dewayne Pyburn, Jerry Jones, Larry Pyburn, Michael Pyburn, Tim Pyburn and Kevin Pyburn.

Opha Malone


Opha Malone, 88, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Marmaduke, she spent most of her life in the Jonesboro area. She was the former owner and operator of Malone's Grocery and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, James A. Malone of Jonesboro; one daughter, Carolyn Simino of Jonesboro; one sister, Sopha Farley of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, James "Jamie" Lawson, James Brian Malone, Scotty Simino and Amy Cox, all of Jonesboro, and Renea Simino of Benton; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Malone; her parents; one daughter; and three brothers.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with Graig Stull officiating. Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



 

Carl Edward Easton


Carl Edward Easton, 79, of Rector died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at the Paragould Nursing Center.

Born in Greene County, he was a farmer and a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Vangilder Easton of the home; one son, Leon Easter of Fayetteville; one daughter, Shirley Lee of Eads, Tenn.; three brothers, Glen Easton, Charlie Easton and Harold Easton, all of Paragould; two sisters, Arneda Smith and Marcella Cooper, both of Paragould; five grandchildren, Shad Easton, Neeley Easton Williams, Samantha Teeple, Sonya Pollard and Dee-Dee Easton; five stepgrandchildren, Amber Williams, Ronnie Lee Jr., Katie Lynn Bailey, Kelsie Bailey and Jason Bailey; three great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Vedis Huffstutler Easton, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Irby Funeral Home chapel in Rector, with Adrian Parker and Mike Chadwick officiating. Burial will be in Purcell Cemetery west of Rector.
Pallbearers will be George Smith, Dwight Vangilder, Joe Vangilder, Earl Charles Wyatt, Bill Vangilder and Shad Easton.
Honorary pallbearers will include Maurice Bateman, W.O. Layer, Howard Beaton, Donald Huckabay and James Lindsey.

Grace Deck Thorne


Grace Deck Thorne, 89, of Paragould died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at the Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Born in Greenfield, Tenn., she was a retired school teacher and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Arkansas State University and did graduate work at the University of Arkansas.

She had lived in Marmaduke before moving to Paragould in 1960.

Survivors include one brother, Bernie A. Deck of Florida; three granddaughters, Priscilla Pope of St. Charles, Mo., Patricia Ducharme of St. Louis and Diana Schmidle of O'Fallon, Mo.; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Thorne; her parents; a son; a daughter; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. David Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Paragould.

David Allen Round


David Allen Round, 80, of Paragould died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he retired as owner of David A. Round & Son Manufacturing of Solon, Ohio, was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Day Round of Paragould; and a brother, Bill Wilmot of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church, with Roger Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.
No visitation has been planned.

Robert Allan Nickerson


Robert Allan Nickerson, 50, of Paragould, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.
Born in Topsfield, Mass., he was an electronic engineer and was a member of Paragould First Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Nickerson of the home; and his parents, Robert and Laura Nickerson of Centerville, Mass.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Paragould First Church of God, with Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship Cemetery near Paragould under the direction of Irby Funeral Service in Marmaduke.

Funeral services for Charlie Hays, 86, of Atoka, who died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel in Paragould. The Rev. Marion Gramling will officiate, and burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould.

Born in Clay County, he was a retired, self-employed carpenter and was a member of the Nazarene church in Beech Grove.

Survivors include his wife, Elva Hays of Atoka; a son, Garlon Hays of Atoka; two grandchildren, Sheila Bramlitt and Brad Hays; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hattie Denton Hays.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

 

Hammersley
PARAGOULD -- Margetta Effie Hammersley, 79, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was a homemaker.

Joyce Imolee Brummett


Funeral services for Joyce Imolee Brummett, 81, of Paragould, who died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at her residence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home. Art Smith will officiate, and burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joe Pratt, Cory Brummett, C.K. Bean, Casey Bean, Chris Brummett, Alex Brummett and Shawn Brummett.

Born in Stanford, she was a former cook at Brummett's Quick Mart and was a member of 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Brummett of Paragould; two sons, Steve Brummett and Stan Brummett, both of Paragould; two daughters, Patty Pratt of Light and Suzie Bean of Paragould; a brother, Bert Harris of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James William and Bertha Harris; a son, Billy Joe Brummett; two brothers; and a sister.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Wanda Mullen


Wanda Mullen, 68, of Black Rock died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born near Walnut Ridge, she was a retired nurse's aide at Skil Co. and had lived in California for 19 years before moving to Black Rock in 1971.

She was a member of New Life Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Mullen of the home; a son, Bill Mullen Jr. of Black Rock; a daughter, Lynne Rowland of Paragould; two brothers, Euleas England of Anaheim, Calif., and J.D. England of Arnold, Mo.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

 
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Life Full Gospel Church, with Wayne Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.
Pallbearers will be Bill Mullen III, Jeremy Beary, Brandon Pfeffer, David Bryant, Junior Mullen and Matt Mullen.

Mildred Almeda Allen


Funeral services for Mildred Almeda Allen, 82, of Paragould, who died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 at Paragould Nursing and Rehab Center will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel in Paragould, with the Rev. Jim Bynum officiating.

Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould.Pallbearers will be Ronnie Stevens, Garry Don Anderson, Darrell Stevens and Daniel Steel.

Born in Raydell, she was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Allen of the home, and one grandson, Briar Brookings Morrow.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda K. Allen; her parents, Nolie and Nancy Wilthong; two sisters; and three brothers.

Noel Howard Sr.

 
Noel "Freed" Howard Sr., 77, of Paragould died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 at his home.

Born in Paragould, he was a self-employed painter and truck driver. He was a member of Mountain Home Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Vesta Howard of Paragould; two daughters, Melissa Allen of Paragould and Rosa Sanders of Lexington, Tenn.; three sisters, Betty Downs, Jo Ann Filerbo and Hilda Stewart, all of Paragould; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Bernice Damron Howard; a son, Freed Howard Jr.; one daughter, Leona Howard; four brothers, Elvis Howard, Colvin Howard, Dwight Howard and Harold Howard; and one sister, Minnie Baler.

Graveside services are today at 3:30 p.m. at Mountain Home Cemetery, with Emmett Smith officiating. Burial is under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.
Visitation is today from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jonathan Wayne Moody


Jonathan Wayne Moody, 25, of Corning, formerly of Hoxie and Jonesboro, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 near Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born in Jonesboro, he was a carpet installer and was of the Baptist belief.

 
Survivors include his mother, Ricki McCall of Jonesboro; one brother, Jerry Moody Jr. of Hoxie; and his grandmother, Ruby Moody of Pocahontas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Wayne Moody Sr.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fellowship Baptist Church, with Bob Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in Cross Roads Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Joel Franklin Cox


Joel Franklin Cox, 81, of St. Louis died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002 at Christian Hospital Northeast.

He was born in Greene County, had been an assembly line worker and had been a member of Morganford Church of Christ for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jamesena Cox of St. Louis; a son, Lestel W. Cox of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Sharon K. Slodounik of St. Louis; three sisters, Mildred Scrivner, Lerlene Treece and Faustina Carr, all of Paragould; and four grandchildren, Darrell W. Cox of Chicago and Aaron M. Slodounik, Rebekah A. Slodounik and Hannah K. Slodounik, all of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Osmer Cox and Millie Josephine Hyde.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Affton Chapel at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Liberty Cemetery at Paragould.

James Edward Scott


James Edward "Eddie" Scott, 61, of Paragould died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002 at the residence of a niece.

He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Ray Scott of Oxford, Ga., and Rodney Scott of Paragould; one daughter, Sheila Kay McKay of Naples, Fla.; four sisters, Onejin Hunt, Phyllis Manis and Vida Rhoads, all of Paragould, and Shirley Malick of North Little Rock; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Scott and Olene Farrah Scott Sparks; and a brother, Douglas Scott.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Liberty Cemetery near Marmaduke, with the Rev. Jerry Weaver officiating. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 11:20 a.m-12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Redmon Rice


Redmon Rice, 85, of Delaplaine died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Greene County, he was a farmer and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Dolly Mae Arant Rice of Delaplaine; two sons, Jimmy Rice of Delaplaine and Tommy Rice of O'Kean; four stepsons, Carson Caldwell, Sidney Caldwell, Jason Caldwell and Keith Caldwell, all of Paragould; two stepdaughters, Kathy Banks of Paragould and Lucinda Caldwell of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Emma Forehand Rice, and one son.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McNabb Funeral Home chapel in Pocahontas, with Johnie T. Arant officiating. Burial will be in Brownie Cemetery, with military honors by Promberger-Traw Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4556.

Opal Mae Willis


Opal Mae Willis, 89, of Paragould died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, she was a retired supervisor for Ely and Walker Shirt Factory and a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Ernestine Grooms of Sherwood and Carol Martin of Tulsa, Okla.; and four grandchildren, Tim Grooms of Sherwood, Cindy Pritchard of Gautier, Miss., Kellie Taylor of Edmond, Okla., and Brian Martin of Basalt, Colo.; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie Willis; her parents, George William and Emmer Lee Rainwater Fox; one brother; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Orbin E. Sharp

 
Orbin E. Sharp, 82, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Lynn, he had lived in Marmaduke for 40 years before moving to Jonesboro a year ago. He was a retired farmer and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Sharp of the home; four sons, Jerald Sharp and Bobby Sharp, both of Jonesboro, Charlie Sharp of Hope and Leonard Sharp of Bono; two daughters, Nina Elumbaugh of Center, Texas, and Rhonda Jones of Jonesboro; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, with Adrian Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Rose Mary White

 
Rose Mary White, 74, of Paragould died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, she was a retired administrative assistant with Redbook, a former employee of Greene County Schools and also worked as an assistant deputy court clerk. She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include one sister, Martha Jean Swindle of Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Jennie White, and one brother.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Linwood Cemetery with Jeff Rainwater officiating. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Chris James, C.B. Smith, Alfred Robinson and Bill E. Williams.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
