Therman Joseph Bridges
Therman Joseph Bridges, 74, died March 10, 1991. He was born April 30, 1916, the son of George P. and Laura Thomas Bridges. Survivors include his wife, Mae Gilbert Bridges of Paragould; two sons, Larry Bridges of Granite City, IL and Perry Bridges of Granite City IL; and two daughters, Mary Mothershed of Granite City, IL and Betty Smoot of Paragould, AR. Services will be held March 13th, at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Bob Woody officiating. Burial Brown's Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements by Heath Funeral Home
Mrs. Myrl Rhine Mueller August 4, 1904 ~ August 31, 1991 Mrs. Myrl Rhine Mueller of 341 W. Highland, Paragould, passed away Saturday, August 31st at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. A journalist, she was the editor of the former Big Picture newspaper in Paragould as well as the author of "Lost In The Annals, History and Legends of the New Madrid Earthquake 1811-1812 and A History of Greene County, Arkansas. Mrs. Mueller was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Paragould and was very active in the Greene County Historical and Genealogical Society, where she served on the editorial board of the Greene County Historical and Genealogical Quarterly. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Mueller. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Margaret Helen Sharone of Toano, VA. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Heath Funeral Home in Paragould with the Reverend Patrick Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home. The family requests that lasting memorials be sent to All Saints Episcopal Church, Greene County Library Memorial Book Program, Greene County Historical and Genealogical Society or the charity or church of your choice.
Mrs. Dora Agusta Masterson August 13, 1900 ~ August 30, 1991
Mrs. Dora Agusta Masterson, age 91, of Paragould passed away Friday, August 30th at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. Born in Piggot, she was a homemaker and a member of Robbs Chapel Baptist Church in Paragould. Survivors include a son, Grover W. Masterson of Orange City, FL., three daughters, Evelyn Thurmond of Paragould, Nadyne Attebery of Hemet, CA., and Pauline Espinosa of Scottsdale, AZ., eight grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel, Paragould, with John Slatton officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 7 until 9 at the Heath Funeral Home.
Mrs. Emily Lue Staton February 5, 1907 ~ August 31, 1991
Mrs. Emily Lue Staton, age 84, of Beech Grove, passed away Saturday, August 31st at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. (Illegible print) Staton of Paragould, two daughters, Mrs. Diva Chastain of Berrien Springs, MI., and Mrs. Phyllis Kingston of Paragould, nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, September 2nd at 1:30 p.m. at the Evening Star Church of Christ with L.R. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Epsaba Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening from 6:30 until 9 at the Heath Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould.
Mrs. Dorothy Louise Gatlin January 25,1922 ~ August 31,1991
Mrs. Dorothy Louise Gatlin, age 69, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, August 31st at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. A homemaker, she was of the Baptist belief. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Gatlin. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Boggs of Princeton, IN., Mrs. Judy Cobb of Sierra Vista, AZ., Mrs. Connie Bittingham of Paragould, and Mrs. Susan Curtis of Paragould, two sons, Ron Gatlin of Makakilo, HA., and Jim Gatlin of Anniston, AL., six brothers, Marvin Wells of Cardwell, MO., Rev. Bernal Wells of McEwen, TX, Henry Wells of Shafter, CA., Alvin Wells of Paragould, Alfred Wells of Broken Arrow, OK., Bob Wells of Paragould, four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Noel of Arnold, MO., Mrs. Mary Smith of Rainer, OR., Mrs. Opal Higgins of Pittsburg, CA., and Mrs. Pansy Sifford of Vallejo, CA. 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services are under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould, with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In 1955, he went into the Navy and was commissioned through Officer Candidate School. In 1956, he was stationed at the Naval Security Group Command in Washington. He remained on active duty until 1959. When he left active duty, Adm. Miles went to work as a civil servant in the Bureau of Personnel in the Navy Department. In 1967, he was named assistant director of systems design and programming. In 1974, he joined the staff of
Rep. Bill Alexander (D-Ark.) as administrative assistant. He
retired in 1986. His personal military decorations included the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and three awards of the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Cryptologic School at Fort Meade. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte E. Loughery Miles, whom he married in 1960, of Arlington, and his parents, Lovick P. and Pearl Susie Miles of Paragould.
