Henry Dois Hill



Henry Dois Hill, 83, of Paragould died Wednesday, September 1st, 2004, at the VA hospital, Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Hill was born in Alva, Mississippi, December 19, 1920. He was a retired farmer and service station employee and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Charlene Jernigan of Osceola; a sister-in-law, Deltha Grimm of Paragould; several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Pearl HIll; one son, Sherman Dois Hill; two brothers, J.W. and Willie Hill; and by one sister, Beatrice Oakley.

Visitation will be Saturday, from 10:00-11:30 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

A graveside service will be conducted 12:00 noon, Saturday, at Linwood Cemetery with Dennis Strope officiating. The procession will leave the funeral home at 11:45 a.m.

Elizabeth Anne Dachs



Elizabeth Anne Dachs died September 1, 2004 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born September 1, 2004 the daughter of Josh and Joy Dachs.

She is survived by her parents, Josh and Joy Robinson Dachs of Paragould; one sister Catherine Hankins of Paragould; paternal grandparents, Richard and Sharon Dachs of Paragould; maternal grandparents, Randy and Glenda Ward of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Preceded in death by a brother, Hunter Joshua Allen Dachs.

Visitation will be Sunday, 1:00-2:30 PM at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral will be Sunday, 2:30 PM, graveside at Providence Cemetery with Reverend Keith DeFries officiating.

Thelma Laverne Johnson



Thelma Laverne Johnson, 87, of Paragould, died Friday, September 3rd, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born June 24, 1917, in Marmaduke, Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Murl Johnson of the home; one daughter, Linda Chambers of Hardy; one brother, Floyd Payne of Duncan, Oklahoma; one sister, Emma Newsome of Paragould; and one grandson, Scott Chambers of Marmaduke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, S.C. "Bud" and Hattie Payne; three brothers, Colman Payne, Owen Payne, and Robert Payne; one sister, Gladys Wilkenson; one half-brother, Tom Payne and by one half-sister, Georgia Brewington.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Saturday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m., at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the New Friendship Cemetery.

Earline Laura Napier



Earline Laura Napier, 87, of Paragould died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born at Paragould, she was a retired co-owner of Napier Meat Processing and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Gary Napier of Paragould; one daughter, Donna Napier of Paragould; one brother, Leon Weaver of Paragould; one sister, Dorothy Nutt of Paragould; one grandson, Tim Napier of Paragould; and one granddaughter, Terri Napier of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Napier; her parents, George Allen and Minnie Weaver; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Michael Sutton and Jim Chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery at Paragould under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Don Nutt, Kent Weaver, Mike Weaver, Terry Hedge, Jesse Brown and Clint Dickson.

Honorary pallbearers will include Dennis Weaver, David Weaver and Allen Weaver.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church or cemetery fund.

Berniece Bryson



Berniece Bryson, 80 died Friday, September 3, 2004, in Paragould, Arkansas. Mrs. Bryson was born on June 17, 1924, in Walcott Arkansas. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law: Andy and Ronda Bryson of Jonesboro, Arkansas, three daughters and son-in-law: Rose Lee and Jack Bishop and Janice Williams all of Paragould, Peggy and Macey Harpole of Cabot, Arkansas, one brother: Mack Wince of Paragould, two sisters: Darlene Phillips of West Memphis, Arkansas and Shirlene Miller of Leesburg, Florida, six grandchildren: Shane and Dustin Williams both of Paragould, Bryson Harpole of Cabot, Arkansas, Jennifer Bishop Rollings of Paragould, Molly Brooke Bryson and Drew Bryson both of Jonesboro, Arkansas, three great grandchildren: Gracie, Audrey and Tristin Williams all of Paragould.

Mrs. Bryson was preceded in death by: her parents: Shirley and Mollie Wince, her husband: Fred Bryson, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dennis Strope and Bro. Marion Gramling officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Williams, Shane Williams, Chris Rollings, Holmes Phillips, Rickey Wince and Curtis Hall.

James Joseph DeRoe



James Joseph DeRoe, 75 died Saturday, September 4, 2004, at his residence. Mr. DeRoe was born on September 24, 1928, in Perryville, Missouri. He was a veteran, retired from the American National Can Company, a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include: his wife Charlotte DeRoe of the home, one daughter: Sally Ward of St. Peters, Missouri, one stepson: Michael Clark of St. Petersburg, Florida, one stepdaughter: Judy Hyde of Brookland, Arkansas, one brother: Tom DeRoe of Paragould, three sisters: Lwana Trapp of St. Louis, Missouri, Margie Koen of Macon, Georgia and Donna MacDonald of Harbor Springs, Michigan and four grandchildren.

The Requiem Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. John Marconi and Bill Bass officiating. Burial will follow in the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A vigil services will be 6:30 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home with visitation from 5:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Mary Ellen Starr



Mary Ellen Starr, 89 of Hot Springs, AR, died September 4, 2004.

Born September 1, 1915, in Knobel, Arkansas to James Louis and Mary Ellen Vincent Smith, she was the youngest of a family of 9 children. She loved and respected the land, much of which was cleared by her father in Clay and Greene County. A member of a pioneer family, the Smiths came to Arkansas in 1819.

Known as a strong and independent woman, she taught school for 40 years and was a landowner and farmer for her entire life. Born on her family "home place" she graduated from Corning High School and Arkansas State University. She was a member of the Church of Christ. The widow of Russell Raymond Starr, they lived on their farm in Knobel until 1978 when they retired to Pocahontas. In 1995 she moved to Hot Springs.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Carol Starr and Lawrence W. Levi of Hot Springs, AR, a grandson, Dr. Mark Starr Levi of Little Rock, AR, sister, Mrs. Sylvia Companionette of Lady Lake, FL. A number of nieces and nephews including Lloyd B. Smith of Knobel, AR and James L. Schimming of Lady Lake, FL.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould with Lawrence Levi and Dr. Mark Levi officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30-1:30 at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Quapaw Care and Rehab, Steve Ledbetter, LNP, Lloyd B. Smith, James L. Schimming, Richard Smith, Oran Smith, Vern Young and Wilson Chrisler.

Mabel Mangrum



Mabel Mangrum, 95, of Paragould, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Southwest Regional Medical Center, Little Rock.

Born May 20, 1909, in Campbell, Missouri, Mrs. Mangrum was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include four sons, Oren Mangrum of Fort Washington, Maryland, Billy Mangrum of Paragould, Jimmy Mangrum of Bastrop, Louisiana, Jerry Mangrum of Alvarado, Texas; two daughters, Emma Galyean of Little Rock and Teressa Holland of Paragould. She is also survived by one sister, Pat Russett of Anaheim, California; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Jessie Lowery; her husband, Martin Dewitt Mangrum; one grandson, Randy Mangrum; three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. C. LaDon Chancellor and Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow in the Wood's Chapel Cemetery. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Trudy Pankey

 

Trudy Pankey, 66, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at her residence.

Born in Carryville in Clay County, Arkansas, she retired as an auditor for the state and was a member of Bono Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Pankey, of the home; three daughters, Rena Pankey of Jonesboro, Phyllis Russell of Bono and Dana Leach of Haslet, Texas; two brothers, Phillip Cable of Paragould and Sterling Cable of Eaton, Ohio; two sisters, Mealeta Fuchs of Jonesboro and Aretta Hardin of Paragould; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Edna Cable; one son, Dale Pankey; and three brothers.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Jon Binkley and Winston Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will include Randy Cable, Kevin Cable, Tony Cable, Phillip Wayne Cable, Dennis Poynor and Jerry Walker.

Honorary pallbearers will include Anthony Pankey, Mario Pankey, Travis Kimberling, Jim Bob Leach, Rodney Keeton, Brad Caffrey and Gene Layne.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Paragould Children's Home or Bono Church of Christ building fund.

Dorothy Mae Cunningham

 

Dorothy Mae Cunningham, 97, of Paragould died September 8, 2004 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She is a retired Sales Clerk from Mays Department Store and a member of First Assembly of God in Paragould.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ralph Cunningham; parents Marcus L. and Sylvia E. Martin of Thompson.

She is survived by one sister, Flossie Oliver of Paragould; nephew, Jack Oliver of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; nieces, Joan Lee of Brookfield Village, Michigan and Kay Futrell of Cherokee Village, Arkansas.

Visitation will be Friday, 6:00-9:00 PM at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, 1:00 PM at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Shannon Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Lorene Carol McDaniel



Lorene Carol McDaniel, 91, of Paragould died September 8, 2004 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Seventh & Mueller Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph McDaniel; parents, John and Kelly Hill Irvin; grandson, David Dunnigan; three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her sons, Danny and Sammy McDaniel of Paragould; daughters, Shelba Harvey of Paragould and Freda Paule of Addieville, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Cloyce Lee Messer



Cloyce Lee Messer, 76, of Paragould, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born November 21, 1927, in the Bard Community, Greene County, Arkansas, he was a retired farmer and builder. Mr. Messer was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Messer of Paragould; one son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Joyce Messer of Paragould; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Sue And Charles Wyman of Texas, Jo Ann and Louis Ruiz of Dinuba, California. He is also survived by two brothers, Melburn Messer, Gerald Dillman Messer; three sisters, Melba Goode, Jackie Ward, and Carolyn Humphrey, all of Paragould; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lula Belle Messer and by one brother, John Darrell Messer.

Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 11th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Edgar Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in the New Friendship Cemetery.

Cleo Pitcher



Cleo Pitcher, age 77, of Delaplaine, died Friday, September 10, 2004, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born September 28, 1926, in Delaplaine, the son of Edward Cleveland and Annie (Varner) Pitcher. He was united in marriage, September 25, 1948, to Mary Frances Stevens. He served in the US Air Force during WWII, was a farmer and a member of the Delaplaine Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Pitcher, of the home, two sons, Carmen Pitcher of Atoka, Tennessee, and Gig Pitcher of Delaplaine, three brothers, Frank Pitcher of Walnut Ridge, Vondia Pitcher of Paragould, and Norman Pitcher of Delaplaine, one sister, Clara Mae Stevens, of Paragould, five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynn Katherine Pitcher, his parents, four brothers, Glen Pitcher, Ben Pitcher, Wilburn Pitcher and Leome Pitcher, and one sister, Hazel Summers.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 12, 2004, at Higginbotham Chapel, Walnut Ridge, with Art Smith, officiating. Burial will follow at Green County Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Paragould.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 11, 2004, from 5 to 7 PM at Higginbotham Chapel in Walnut Ridge.

Arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Services, Inc., of Walnut Ridge.

Ruth Dorene Blackwood



Ruth Dorene Blackwood, 90, of Paragould, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born August 10, 1914, at Walcott, daughter of Ulysses Grant and Tabitha Jane Barrow May. She was a retired buyer for the linen and drapery department of Belk-Simpsons and had worked at the Walcott Post Office, and was a member of the Paragould First Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Rex Blackwood and his wife, Karla of Paragould; one daughter, Bonnie Kay Blackwood Myer and her husband, Jim, of Paragould; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kelley C. Blackwood, and by four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Neathery and Rev. Sam Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be today, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bill Beasley, Jackie May, Dean May, Tommy May, Argene May, Chester May, and Stan Gramling.

Louise E. Kline



Louise E. Kline, 69, of Lafe, died September 12, 2004 at her home.

She was born February 20, 1935 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, daughter of Oscar and Ethel Porter Kline. She is survived by three brothers, Harold Kline of Belleville, Michigan, and William and Guy Kline both of Ypsilanti, Michigan; one sister, Eustina Barnard of Lafe, and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be James Gilbee, John Gilbee, Justin Gilbee, Leroy Gilbee, Ed Gilbee, J.J. Gilbee, and James Sheridan.

Jerome "Jerry" Rickman



Jerome "Jerry" Rickman, 69, of Highland, Arkansas passed away Saturday, September 11, 2004, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Mr. Rickman was born on June 9, 1935, in Paragould, Arkansas. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. Mr. Rickman was united in marriage to Ruth Kerwin on June 6, 1986, in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the D.A.V. and the V.F.W. Mr. Rickman was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church in Perryville, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of the home; one sister, Joyce Westlake, of Paragould; five nephews and one niece. There are no services planned at this time. The family requests that memorials be made to the Perryville United Methodist Church or to the Perryville Cemetery Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-Country's Cherokee Chapel of Highland, Arkansas.

Violet Rebecca Poe

 

Violet Rebecca Poe, 74, of Marmaduke died Monday, Sept. 13,2004 at Paragould Nursing Center.

She was a housewife, a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church where she taught children and played piano and organ and was a volunteer with the American Heart Association.

Survivors include her husband, Burl Poe of the home; three sons, the Rev. Melvin Burl of Union City, Tenn., the Rev. David Poe of Paragould and Rick Poe of Bryant; three sisters, Pat Keith of Hemet, Calif., Nettie Faye Bowman of Marmaduke and Flora Jean Chandler of Shelbyville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Melanie Martin, Brad Poe, Shaniece Gipson and Mikah Oxner; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. John Markin and Gracie Pearl Pruitt Markin, and five brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Marmaduke First Baptist Church with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Stone, Tim Stone, Brad Poe, Gene Bennett, Jerry Don McIntosh and Mike Tarr.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Marmaduke First Baptist Church.

Barrett David Henry Johnson



Barrett David Henry Johnson, 78, of Lafe died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 at his residence.

Born in Black Oak, he was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Owens Johnson of the home; three sons, David Johnson of Paragould, Prett Johnson of Oak Grove Heights and Barrett Johnson Jr. of Marmaduke; four daughters, Lilly Tarpley of Lafe, Bill Morrisett and Sandy Johnson, both of Marmaduke and Linda Morris of Paragould; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lilly Marie Harbison Johnson.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould, with the Rev. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Tommy Eugene Johnson, Mike Garner, Christopher Johnson, Calvin Russom, Jackie Padgett and Mark Adams.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today at Heath Funeral Home.

Jim Glenn Hopkins



Jim Glenn Hopkins, 86, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 at NEA Medical Center.

Born at Paragould, he lived in Jonesboro most of his life and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Valine Hogland Hopkins; three stepsons, Leonard Pickle Jr. of Weiner, Paul Pickle of Jonesboro and Robert Pickle of Hardy; four brothers, Jerry Hopkins of Paragould, Ted Hopkins and Larry Hopkins, both of Memphis, and Bill Hopkins of St. Louis; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery, with Marty Hopkins officiating. Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Ellen Perry, 95, of Paragould died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Born in Clarksville, she was a homemaker and a member of West Light Church of Christ.

She had no immediate survivors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Webb Perry, and her parents.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Center Hill Cemetery, with Myrl Frederick officiating. Heath Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy Marylee Black


Dorothy Marylee Black, 76, of Pocahontas died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Northside Freewill Baptist Church at Pocahontas.

Survivors include one son, Larry Black of Hoxie; three grandchildren, Kim Black-Dakins of New Zealand and Wayne Black and Margarett Black, both of Hoxie; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. Black; one son, Joe Black; her mother, Bullen Allen Ozley; and one brother.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Paragould. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Florence E. "Sis" Miller Crockett, 58, of Paragould died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at her residence.

Born in Powhatan, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Carl E. Crockett Sr. of the home; a son, Carl E. Crockett Jr. of Morris, Ill.; four daughters, Melissa Hooks, Rhonda Taylor and Vonda Nieburgge, all of Paragould, and Bonnie Jean Warner of Welton, Iowa; nine brothers, Bob Miller of Kansas City, Mo., David Miller of Henry, Ill., Jerry Miller, John Paul Miller, Edgar Miller, Bill Miller, Gary Miller, Rick Miller and Charles Patrick Miller, all of Paragould; five sisters, Yvonne Martin, Bonnie Crockett, Sue Smith, Mary Wilkinson and Sharon Kaye Hatcher, all of Paragould; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin E. and Geneva E. Lingo Miller; grandparents, Everett and Florence E. Kemp Miller and Barry and Estella Jones Lingo; and a brother.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Robbs Chapel Baptist Church, with John Paul Miller officiating. Cremation

Demondria "Monnie" Owen Broyles



Demondria "Monnie" Owen Broyles, 81, passed away from this life to her eternal home in heaven on September 20, 2004, at the Paragould Nursing Center in Paragould, Arkansas.

She was born February 1, 1923, in Paragould, where she lived most of her life.

She was a retired owner and operator of Pfaff and Electrolux sales and service and monogrammer for over twenty-five years.

She was a member of Mulberry Church of Christ, where she attended faithfully.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Cordelia (Sims) Greenway; her first husband of twenty-one years, Jehu Owen; her second husband of nineteen years, Orville "Pete" Broyles; two sisters, Lois Phillips and Albertine Falls; a brother, Warren Greenway, and three siblings, Walter, Ray, and Effie, who died as children.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Judy Owen, and Jim and Diane Owen; and by one daughter, Kathy (Owen) Cox, all of Paragould. She is also survived by two sisters, Imogene Hogland of Paragould and Ruth Falls of Savannah, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Brad Owen of Jonesboro, Mark Owen, Jason Owen, Wendy Perry, Jamie Eddings, Kacey Cox, Lori Beth Cox, all of Paragould; and five great-granddaughters, Lauren Owen, Emilee Owen, Whitney Copeland, Madison Perry, and Ali Marie Perry.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Drake officiating. Burial will follow in the Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brad Owen, Mark Owen, Jason Owen, Kevin Perry, Keith Eddings, and Nicholas Falls.

John Darrell Myers



John Darrell Myers, 46, of Paragould, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born April 1, 1958, in Woodland, California, Mr. Myers was formerly a forklift driver at Anchor Packaging and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Myers of the home; his father, Andrew Myers of Paragould, three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Bradley and Cassie Myers of Tulsa, Oklahoma, David and Misty Myers of Paragould, and Andrew and Haely Myers of Marmaduke. He is also survived by two brothers, Jerry Myers of Paragould, and Morris Myers of Ogden, Utah and by eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Myers.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould. The funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Keith DeFries officiating. Burial will follow in the New Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Davis, Dallas Carter, Keith Taylor, Keith Reeves, Richard Dachs and Wayne White.

Ned Williams



Ned Williams, 72, of Wynne died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.

He retired as a sanitation worker in Chicago.

Survivors include two sons, E.J. Williams of Jonesboro and Perry Williams of Wynne; three sisters, Ginnie Mae Williams, Erma Lee Williams and Willie B. Marrs, all of Wynne; three brothers, James Williams, Roosevelt Williams Jr. and Curtis Lee Williams, all of Wynne; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Cortez Stegall officiating.

Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Woodard Funeral Service of Wynne.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Richard Eugene Bates



Richard Eugene Bates, 90, of Paragould died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born at Klamath Falls, Oregon, he was a retired federal marshal in Missouri and had worked as a machinist. A World War II and Korean War Army Air Corps veteran, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Missouri.

Survivors include a son, Richard Bates II of St. Johns, Mo.; two daughters, Ellen Butts of Paragould and Francis Timme of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Forrest Linam Bates, and his parents, Lucas and Elizabeth Snowbush Bates.

A memorial service is to be held in St. Louis today.

Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Don Cox



Gary Don Cox, 60, of Paragould, died Monday, September 20, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

A truck driver and Army veteran, Mr. Cox was born July 26, 1944, in Paragould.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Cox of the home; one daughter, Connie Jones of Paragould; two stepsons, Jerry Parker and Kenny Myrick, both of Paragould; and two stepdaughters, Christy Akin of Rector, and Cindy Myrick of Blytheville. He is also survived by one sister, Berta Lou Sims of Paragould; and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Laura Cox and one brother, J.L. Ballard.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., graveside at Shiloh Cemetery with Dennis Strope officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m.

Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Loy Greer



Loy Greer, 81, of Paragould, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born January 7, 1923, in the Lesterville Community, Lawrence County, Arkansas, Mr. Greer was a retired minister of the First United Pentecostal Church. He was a minister for 57 years and former Arkansas District Board Member of United Pentecostal Church International for thirty years. He founded a church in Newport, then pastored in Walnut Ridge, Sulphur Rock and then in Paragould for forty years.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Greer of Paragould; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Greer, Fred and Vonnie Greer; and one daughter and son-in-law, Janette and James Warbington, all of Paragould. He is also survived by three sisters, Melba Holcomb of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Freda Schleicher of Rochester, Michigan, and Anna Lee Clark of Belleview, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.C. and Hattie Greer; one great granddaughter; and by eight brothers, Elbert, Murrel, T.O., Orville, Buford, Leo, Richard, and Claud Greer.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, at First Pentecostal Church, 3701 Linwood Drive (Highway 49 South) Paragould.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m., at the First United Pentecostal Church, with James Warbington, Leon Shelby, Joey Ethridge, Sherry Ethridge and Bill Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Greene County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pall Bearers will be grandsons, Lance Greer, Jim Ed Warbington, Tony Greer, Todd Greer, Shane Warbington, Josh Ethridge, Aaron Ethridge and Brandon Greer. Ministers in attendance will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Lurline Hyde



Lurline Hyde, 79, of West Memphis, Arkansas died September 22, 2004 at the Crittenden County Memorial Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hyde; daughter, Sandra Nash; parents William and Alma Garner.

She is survived by granddaughter; Stephanie Thomas; great grandson, Caleb Thomas both of West Memphis; brother, Randal Garner of Paragould; sisters, Freddie Shipley of Augusta, Missouri, Wanna Foster of Jonesboro; Ruth Fitzgerald of Paragould.

Visitation will be Friday, 8:00-10:30 AM at Heath Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be Friday, 10:30 AM at Linwood Cemetery with Reverend Clinton Holder officiating.

Pallbearers will be Willis Lyles, Danny Thomas, Dean Garner, Barry Foster, Charles Harville, W.C. Watkins.

Baby Lane Cordell Winn, born September 18, 2004 in Paragould, died Wednesday September 22, 2004 at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

Lane is survived by his parents, Brandon and Amy Winn; maternal grandparents, Mike and Shirlene Bollinger; paternal grandmother, Sue Winn; great grandmother, Marie Winn all of Paragould; great grandfather, Christy Bollinger of St. Louis; uncles and aunts: Danny and Nikki Winn, David and Jamie Winn and Johnny Winn of Paragould and Amber Bollinger of Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Elmer Winn; great grandmother, Virginia Bollinger; great grandparents, C.W. and Magdalene McFall and Charley Winn.

Funeral services are Saturday, 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lafe, Reverend Curt Dwyer officiating, with burial following at St. John's Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday, 9:00-10:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Joshua Eugene Crouch


Joshua Eugene Crouch, 31, of Maynard, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 at his home. He was born at Sycamore, Ill., and was a machinist.

Survivors include his parents, Danny Eugene and Zoe Bernice Crouch of Maynard; two brothers, Kyle James of Jonesboro and Rick Crouch of Maynard; three sisters, Brandie Wilson of Maynard, Cynthia Davis of Wynne and Jennifer Wilson of Biggers; and his grandparents, Alyce and Francis James of Maynard and Christine and J. W. Johnson of Machesney Park, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home at Pocahontas, with Rick Hassell officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Vester Henry Johnson



Vester Henry Johnson Sr., 95, who lived in the Jonesboro, Paragould and Brookland areas most of his life, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at Gasconade Manor Nursing Home in Owensville, Mo. A Methodist, he was born at Paragould and was a retired farmer and carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Vester H. Johnson Jr., of Bland and Allan L. Johnson of Fulton, Mo.; one daughter, Violet O. Sitze of St. Louis; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie L. Thomas Johnson, an infant son and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today in the chapel of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Royce Boling officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Aldean Rhein



Aldean Rhein, 72, of Punta Gorda, FL and formerly of Bergenfield, NJ, passed away Friday, September 24, 2004.

She was born May 5, 1932 in Paragould, Arkansas to Lena and General Johnston.

Aldean is survived by and will be sadly missed by her husband of 54 years, Gilbert C.G. Rhein; three sons, Danny Rhein of Punta Gorda, FL, GIlbert W. Rhein of Dumont, NJ, and David Rhein of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, LInda Anderson of Port Charlotte, FL, two sisters, Hazel Young of Rockford, IL, and Alpha Flotard of Bogota, NJ, six brothers, Leroy Johnston of Paragould, Ark., Nathan Johnston of Paragould, Ark., Jack Johnston of Paragould, Ark., David Johnston of Paragould, Ark., Robert Johnston of Paragould, Ark., and Jerry Johnston of Pargould, Ark., and twelve grandchildren, Erika, Katrina, Danika, Derek, Ross, Justin, Laura, Emily, Bradley, Nathan, Nicholas, and Noah. Her brother, Kenneth Johnston, preceded her in death.

Aldean touched the lives of everyone she met and leaves behind many friends with heavy hearts.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2004, 10 AM-12 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM at Kays Ponger Funeral Home in Port Charlotte. Interment is to follow at Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda. Martha Mildred Ring


Martha Mildred Ring, 77, of Paragould died September 27, 2004 at her residence.

Born in Lawrence County she was retired from Riceland foods and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Walcott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Ring; her parents, Henry and Beulah (Benson) Cole; brother, Benson Cole; sister, Manon Benson. She is survived by daughters, Sharon Pillow of Paragould; Audie Boyd of Missouri and Rose Mary Stroud of Hoxie; one sister Emily Dawson of Piqua, Ohio; six grandchildren, Kimberly McKay, Audra Pillow, Julie Clark, James Norwood, Sherry Norwood and Mike Stroud and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 pm at Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday, 10:30 am at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Walcott with Reverend Stacy Prater officiating. Pallbearers will be Jerry Pillow, Vernon McKay, Michael Clark, Mike Williams.

Pauline Williams


Pauline Williams, 80, of Paragould died Thursday, September 30, 2004 at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

A homemaker, Mrs. Williams was born August 3, 1924 in Greene County. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Beuren Williams of Paragould; two sons, Jerry Williams of House Springs, Missouri and Galen Williams of Charlotte, North Carolina; two daughters, Mary Crow of House Springs, Missouri and Carolyn Ader of Paragould. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Ritchey of Paragould; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00-9:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

A graveside service will be conducted 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Gainesville Cemetery with David Poe officiating. The procession will leave the funeral home at 1:00 p.m., Saturday.
