Bobby Charles Arnold



Bobby Charles Arnold, 60, of Ravenden, passed away Friday, October 01, 2010 at NEA Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Arnold was born November 04, 1949 in Delaplaine, AR.

He is preceded in death by father Charles Arnold.

He is survived by wife Marilyn Arnold of the home. Two sons; Rob and wife Missy Arnold of Paragould, AR and Donald and wife Leah Arnold of Imboden, AR. Two daughters; Jenn and husband Greg Jackson of Paragould, AR. and Samantha Reed of Ravenden, AR. Six grandchildren; Tyler Arnold, Corey Campbell, Tristen Arnold, Brittany Jackson, and Mason Jackson all of Paragould, AR. and Piper Reed of Ravenden, AR. Mother Wanda Carson of Paragould, AR. Four brothers; Johnny Carson and Michael Carson both of Paragould, AR., Jim Arnold of Berry Hill, OK. And Bobby Gene Arnold of Langley, OK. Three sisters; Linda Smith of Paragould, AR., Shirley Arnold of Langley, OK., and Kathy Ashford of Tulsa, OK.

Graveside service will be held Monday, October 4th, 10:00 a.m. in the Oak Hill Church Cemetery with Junior Vester officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday evening 4:00 until 6:00 in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Wells, Keith White, Britt Conrad, Lucas Conrad, Tracy Jones, and Barry Merideth.

Rozelle Williams



Rozelle Williams, daughter of the late Baxter Williams and Lora E. (Green) Lane, was born January 19, 1925, in Kennett, Mo. and departed this life Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 13 days, in Paragould. She married Wilson Williams in 1944. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Survivors include one son, Ted Williams and his wife Diane of Kennett, Mo.; one daughter, Terry Guthrie and her husband Ken of Arbyrd, Mo.; three grandchildren, Lori Clay and her husband Jim of Paragould, Keith Guthrie and wife Shane of Arbyrd, Mo. and Julie Crowder of Kennett, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Blake Guinn of Paragould and Kelton Wilson of Arbyrd, Mo.; two Brothers, Dennis Wynn and Lee A. Williams both of Texas; one sister, Betty Hinesly of Hornersville, Mo.; several Nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Brent Williams.


Visitation Sunday, October 3rd, at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, Mo., with services Monday, October 4th, at McDaniel Chapel in Kennett, Mo., with Brother David Vanderpool officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett, Missouri.

Walter Curtis Taylor



Walter Curtis “Pud” Taylor, 85 of Marmaduke passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Walter was born March 21, 1925, to the family of Lewis Deward and Nora Ann McClendon Taylor he was a farmer and of the Baptist belief.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bonnie Taylor of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Nahoko Taylor of Marmaduke, Wade and Tammy Taylor of Paragould; daughters and son-in-law, Lydia Ann Killian of Marmaduke, Regina Taylor of Memphis and Susan and Rick Thompson of Harrisburg, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 5th, 1:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Cross, Gary Taylor, Dale Mitchell, Rocky Weber, Lance Easley and Briar Easley. Honorary pallbearers will be Melburn Sparks and Bob Gillian.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Hazel Patricia Dirlam




Hazel Patricia Dirlam, 82, of Sherwood, AR. passed away Saturday, October 02, 2010.
Born March 17, 1928 in Heber Springs, AR., to the late James and Rosa Butler.

She is preceded in death by parents and husband Roscoe Dirlam.

She is survived by three sons; David Dirlam of Charleston, MO., James Dirlam of Clinton, AR., and Stanley Dirlam of Mt. View, AR. three daughters; Pat Holland of Sherwood, AR., Elizabeth Cooper of Walnut, MS., and Diane Lancaster of Jacksonville, AR. nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild, sister, Opal Rothe of Delaplaine, AR.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 06th, at 2:00 p.m. in Jones Ridge Cemetery located in Delaplaine, AR. with Gary Barker officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening 5:00 until 7:00 in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home.

Lillian Moneda Wilson



Lillian Moneda Wilson, 88 of Paragould went home to be with her Lord on October 3, 2010, at Ridgecrest Nursing Home in Jonesboro. Moneda was born June 19, 1922. She retired from Emerson Electric and a member of the East Side Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Orla and Gertie Busby Toombs; her husband Ira Wilson, and son, Jim Earl Wilson.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Donald Gene Clark of Paragould, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Don Clark, Melody, Madalyn and Hannah Bryson, Jimmy, Matt and Anna Wilson, Jerry and Taylor Wilson, Phil, Emily and Allie Wilson, Misty, Wil, Trey and Maggie Archer, Angie Wilson of Odessa, Texas and Dallas Whitehead.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 6th, at 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Revs. Jason Noel and Dennis Scudder officiating.

Roy Dewayne Hooks



Roy Dewayne Hooks, 45, of Wynne, formerly of Paragould, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Med in Memphis.

Born February 27, 1965 in Paragould, Mr. Hooks was a Marine Corps veteran and a truck driver.

Survivors include his mother, Doris Marie Burnett of Paragould; his fiancee, Julie Sterchi of Wynne; two brothers, Everett Allen Hooks and Willis T. Hooks, both of Paragould; and two sisters, Lisa Lynn Cole of Paragould, and Laura Lynn Hoy of Hampton, Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Lisa and Brittany Hooks, Alyshia Hoy, Ricky, Christopher and Alvin Cole, Casey and Dillon Hooks.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 7th, 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Snow officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Marty Chipman, Anthony Craft, Kevin Norman, Mike Nichols, David Craft, Will Cole, Eddie Emerson and Russell Butler will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be T. K. Brannon and Frankie Galgano.

Melissa Magdalene Gallop

 

Melissa Magdalene Gallop, a resident of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was 100 years old.

Mrs. Gallop was born January 22, 1910, in Ripley, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Acton and Tennie Newman of Ripley, Tennessee; her husband of 65 years, Rev. Hall Gallop, Sr.; daughter, Betty Jean Gallop McArthur of Memphis, Tennessee; son, Hall Gallop, Jr. of Paragould; and grandson, Hal Bradley “Brad” Gallop of Tyler, Texas. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur and Paige Newman of Ripley, and Clyde Newman of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Zelia “Sis” Drumwright of Ripley and Lucille “Crick” McGregor of Blytheville, Arkansas.

She is survived by two grandsons, Steven (Lavada) McArthur of Jonesboro, Mark (Yulia) McArthur of Orlando, Florida; and two great grandchildren, Tonya (James) Alford of Greenwood, Arkansas, and Alan McArthur of Norfork, Virginia. Also surviving her are three great great granddaughters, Emily and Bethany Alford, and Kenady McArthur; daughter-in-law, June Holley Gallop of Paragould; several dearly loved nieces and nephews; and special friends, Toyia Frenzel and Orval Prestage. She was affectionately known to all her grandchildren as “Mamoo”.

Mrs. Gallop was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paragould and had served the Lord faithfully for 75 years. She and her husband pastured several churches in the Northeast Arkansas area for many years.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 5th, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Wednesday October 6th, 1:30 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Manuel Mack officiating. Burial and graveside service will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Alice McCullar



Alice Louise McCullar, 86 of Paragould passed away Monday October 4, 2010 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born May 8, 1924, Alice was retired from retail business having worked at Sterling, Black & White Department Store, OTASCO and was the lunchroom cook at St. Mary’s Catholic School. Alice served on the Board of Directors at Greene Acres, was involved with the Garden Club and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow McCullar and her parents Patrick Henry Carroll, Sr. and Mary Loretta Layton Carroll.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen McCullar of Sperry, OK; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Chad Hines of Skiatook, OK; brothers, Richard, Everett and Pat Carroll, Jr. all of Paragould; sisters, Jean Davis of Paragould and Millie Covill of Wild Rose, WI., grandchildren, Tyler McCullar, Katie McCullar and Natalie Hines.
Rosary services will be Thursday evening 6:30 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Visitation will follow Rosary 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.
Funeral mass will be Friday October 8th, 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Mike Sinkler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School.

Kevin Darr Flanrey, 49, of Paragould passed away Monday, October 4, 2010. He was born December 10, 1960, at Paragould to James and Reba (Sims)Flanrey. He loved to hunt and fish.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Reba Flanrey.

Survivors include his father, James Flanrey; one son, Ryan Flanrey and one sister, Marcia Nelson all of Paragould.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening at 6:00 in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 6th, 2:00 p.m. at Wood’s Chapel Cemetery in Paragould with Royce Bowling officiating.

Reba Franks
 


Reba Williams Stroud Franks, age 96, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro.

Reba was born on June 9, 1914 in Clay County, Arkansas. She lived most of her life in Paragould and was a member of the First Church of God in Paragould for more than 65 years, having served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Secretary, member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Flower Committee. She was also a resident of South Wind Heights in Jonesboro for the last eight years.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Marcus Stroud, her second husband, Clyde Oland Franks, her parents, John Wesley Williams and Mary Lee Newton Williams, one sister, Bertie Brandon, one brother, Elmer Williams, and four great grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Bonnie Walden and husband Max of Illinois, Wava Howley of California, Glenda Moore and husband Bob of Colorado, Sherrell Rodgers and husband Gary of Jonesboro, one son, Avon Franks and wife Jackie of North Little Rock, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30-11:30 a.m.at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Revs. Rocky Alexander, Jerry D. Walden and Kevin Edgar. Burial will follow in New Liberty Cemetery.

Sharon Kay Burns



Sharon Kay Burns, 67, Paragould, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 at Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro. She was born June 20, 1943 in Leachville, Arkansas the daughter of the late Floyd and Delilah Hackworth. Her daughter, Tammy Kay Grimes and siblings, Doyle, Daryl, Elmo, Cleo and Dorothy Hackworth also precede her in death.

Survivors include her husband: Jimmy Dale Burns, Sr. of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Marsha and Darrell West of Paragould, Judy and Keith Thompson of Bowling Green, KY, Malisa and Buddy Henry of Sevierville, TN, Sonya Williams of Jefferson City, TN, Tonya and Kai Haley of Newport; son and daughter-in-law: Jimmy Dale Burns, Jr. and Lydia of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters: Ellere Johnston of Paragould, Gertie Cox of Paragould, Barbara Smith of Poplar Bluff, MO, Lois Monterelli of Las Vegas, NV; brothers: Winford Hackworth of Paragould, Amos Hackworth of Paragould, Paul Hackworth of California; sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Buck M. Grimmett



Buck M. Grimmett, 68, Paragould, passed away Wednesday October 6, 2010 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born April 3, 1942 in Success, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Kathryn Willis Grimmett, sister, Jo Reta Patterson and son, John Thomas Grimmett. He was a retired Machinist and served in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife: Sharon Grimmett, of the home; step-mother: Melveeta Grimmett of Eldon, Missouri; daughters: Melissa (Bob) Hamlin of Loves Park, Illinois, Laurine Lori (Chris) Frayer of Paragould, Arkansas; sisters: Edwina (Bob) Lundberg of Mountain View, Missouri, Jeanie (Steve) Andren of Roswell, New Mexico; brother: Carmen (Kay) Grimmett of Mountain View, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends Friday evening October 8th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould, Arkansas. The family will also receive friends Sunday, October 10th, 6:00 p.m.until 8:00 p.m., at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Rockford, Illinois. The celebration of his life will take place at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Rockford, Illinois on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Murphy, Ryan Frayer, Jarred Grimmett, Jessie Roe, Corey Namors and Ronnie Davis.

Virgil Foutch



Virgil “Bud” Foutch, 81, of Leachville, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born July 29, 1929, in Paragould, he was the son of the late Robert and Lessie Cameron Foutch and had been a longtime Leachville resident.

Mr. Foutch was retired from Nibco after 28 1/2 years and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Leachville. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and making things.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Foutch of the home; one son, Wayne Foutch of Leachville; one daughter, Karon Henick and husband Keith of Harrisburg; and two sisters, Juanita Wall of Paragould and Dolly Cox of Grand Blanc, Mich.

He also leaves four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 8th, 10:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church in Leachville with the Rev. Lee Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Leachville Cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila.

The family will receive visitors this evening, 5:00 until 8:00 today at the church.

Lorraine A. Brandt



Lorraine A. Brandt, 52, formally of Fort Atkinson, WI. passed away at her home in Paragould, AR, October 6, 2010. She was born January 22, 1958 at Tawas City, MI.
Lorraine was employed at APV Crepaco, Inc in Lake Mills, WI. before an early retirement. She loved picnics and getting together with family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, Edward and Helen (Blank) Brandt, maternal grandparents, John and Lorena (Hardy) O’Neil and a brother Larry Brandt.

She is survived by her parents, Edward and Patricia Brandt of Paragould; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Dave Johnson of Chesterton, IN; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Kimberly Brandt of Paragould and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be October 8th, 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at Phillips Funeral Home.
Funeral services Saturday, October 9th, 2:00 p.m. in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Stacy Prater of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at New Friendship Cemetery.

Gregory Bryan Collins

 

Gregory Bryan Collins, age 51 of Camden, AR was born December 10, 1958 to John M. and Maxine Garris Collins and passed away Thursday, October 07, 2010 at his home. He had lived in Paragould, AR during his life. He was a member of Victory Church, A. S. O. Association, Ducks Unlimited and Toastmasters. He had a Master Degree in Science Operations Management from the University of Arkansas, Bachelors of Science in Radiology Technology from Northeast Louisiana University and was an A. S. Q. Certified Quality Engineer. He was an avid outdoor sportsman and loved his family and held many life long friendships. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Collins; and stepfather, Frank T. Jones, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Jamie Lou Riley Collins of Paragould, AR; daughter, Susan Marie Baird and husband Anthony; grandchildren, Dakota Austin, Jackson Quinn, Lauraleah Grace all of Paragould, AR; brother, John Scott Collins and wife, Sheila of Stephens, AR; mother, Maxine Collins Jones of El Dorado, AR; numerous cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 9th, 2:00 p. m. at Proctor Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Jerry Ables and Reverend Stephen Willis will officiate.

Shawn was born April 4, 1962, she was a homemaker and beautician and a member of the River of Life Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Ryles; grandparents, Rev. W. D. and Marie Ryles and James Otis and Dorothy Roberts. Survivors include her father, Rev. J. Floyd Ryles and wife Agnes of Paragould; sons, Brandon Tedder and Bryan (Kasey) Ryles all of Paragould; sisters, Yvonne (Robert) Trapp, Dallas (Alston) Trapp, Pam (Tim) Malone, Kathy (Jimmy) Followell all of Paragould and Lisa (David) Hufford of Arbyrd, MO., many aunts, uncles, cousin, nieces and nephews.

Lester Manuel Hammon, 88 of Paragould passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Lester was retired from Emerson Electric and was a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tennie; son Manuel Hammon; daughters, Marla Sue and Marsa Lou Hammon; parents, John Jacob and Nellie Mae Saddler Hammon.
Survivors include sons, Jimmy and Frankie Hammon of Paragould and Gerald Hammon of Flippin, AR; daughter, Sandy Boozer of Paragould; brothers, Melvin Hammon of Burton, MI, Bill Hammon of Ridgecrest, CA and Gene Hammon of Jonesboro; sisters, Althea Hester of Kansas City, MO and Ruth Rhodes of Paragould. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Orine Marvin, 81, passed away October 8, 2010 at her home in Paragould. Born April 14, 1929 in Paragould, she was a former employee of Paragould Laundry and a member of the Second and Walnut Church of Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay Nickerson of Paragould; two brothers, G. E. Marvin of Paragould and C. E. Pearlene Brown, 75, of Clarkton, MO., passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at her home.

She was born on December 23, 1934 in Luxora, Arkansas to Ollie Bell Ashabranner and Preston Brown.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father; two brothers, James Preston Brown and Willie Lee Brown of Jacksonville, AR.; one sister, Corinne Gregg, brother-in-law Neil Gregg and nephew Tony Gossett.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Sebourn; one sister, Lois Ann Isom and brother –in-law Bennie Isom of Brookland, AR.; one sister-in-law, Wanda Brown of Jacksonville, AR.; six nieces, Sheryl Brown, Marsha Hepp, Linda Gregg, Joyce Gossett, Barbara Hairrell and; three nephews, Paul Isom, Lesley Isom, Benny Isom, and Samuel Isom.

Pallbearers will be Bennie Isom, Benny Isom, Samuel Isom, Everett Isom and Floyed Britton.

James Clark McKeel
 



James Clark McKeel, 93, of Rector, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center of Paragould. Mr. McKeel was born April 12, 1917 in Rector, to Jesse and Lillie Elizabeth McKeel.

He was a retired minister of 21 years, and retired from the United States Postal Service after serving as Rural Carrier for 25 years and City Letter Carrier for 10 years. He served three years as president of the First District of Arkansas Rural Letter Carriers and state president of Arkansas of Arkansas Rural Carriers. He also served as vice president of Retired and Pioneer Carriers’ Club of the National Association, and was a delegate to the Convention of the National Association. Mr. McKeel was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Carolyn Sue McKeel of Brookland; five grandchildren, Jamie Sample, Jason McKeel, Leigh Ann Cribbs, John McKeel and Lisa Marie Holt; and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Willo Mae McKeel; a son, Jimmy McKeel; two brothers, Les and Ethridge McKeel; and two sisters, Mary Scott and Ethel Bucy.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 13th, 1:00 p.m., at the Fifth & Pine Church of Christ in Rector, with Ken Roden and Charlie Cate officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

James Harold Roush, 76 of Paragould passed away Sunday October 10, 2010 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Harold was born April 26, 1934.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oral and Vera Nelson Roush and a brother, Phil Roush. Survivors include a niece, Rita Gladish of Paragould and a cousin, J. R. Nelson of Paragould.

Jerry Tansil O'Dell



Jerry Tansil O’Dell, 78, of Paragould, AR/Oakland, CA passed away Monday, October 11, 2010, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Jerry was born July 22, 1931 in Tulsa, OK. but grew up in Paragould graduating from Paragould High School and being a proud member of the Class A Championship Bulldog Football Team in 1948.

Following high school he attended ASU and the University of Missouri before entering the U.S. Navy Aviation Program as a young pilot in training in 1953, first stationed in Beeville, TX.

Over the span of his 22-year naval career, he assumed command posts all over the world flying every jet aircraft model ever manufactured during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After completing extended tours of duty in the Philippines, stationed on the carriers Midway, Kitty Hawk and Randolph, he retired as a Lieutenant Commander to Oakland, CA in 1973. Soon after in 1974-75, upon request, he was brought out of retirement to train a new generation of aspiring aviators.

During retirement, Jerry earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History at California State University, Hayward, and enjoyed many hobbies including: hang-gliding, writing poetry, recording music, chess and playing tournament bridge, in which he was recognized as a Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League.

Also active in his Bay Area community, Jerry was a member of the Oakland Museum Association, serving regularly as a volunteer docent, as well as being a member of the University of CA Alumni Association, the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Conservatory Theatre and a booster member for the Oakland Symphony Orchestra.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Bill O’Dell and Marjorie Childs (Justice), and by his stepfather, Jack Justice and younger half-brother Jack Justice, Jr.

Survivors include his partner of 17 years Cynthia Wood of Bolinas, CA, his daughter, Ann O’Dell and two grandchildren, Enzo and Elena Bertolotti, from New York City, and his sister, Margot Ramsey of Memphis, TN.

Phillip Allen Green, 54 of Rector passed away October 12, 2010 at his residence. He was born to the late Mabern and Frances (Rogers) Green in White Oak, Arkansas.

In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by a brother: Roger Green.

Pauline Elizabeth Raley, 96 of Paragould passed away October 13, 2010 at St. Scholastica Monastery Infirmary in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard T. and Anna Straub Raley, brother, Adrian L. and three sisters, Anna Loretta Raley, Frances R. Hayden and Virginia R. Ephrussi. She was retired from the Army Corp of Engineers as secretary. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include one sister, Sister Anne Michele Raley of St. Scholastica Monastery of Fort Smith; three brothers: Howard T. and his wife Joyce of Atlanta, Georgia, James J. and his wife Elnore of Little Rock and Joseph Ronald of Tularosa, New Mexico; and many loved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Jane Janet Clayton



Jane Clayton, 79 of Jonesboro formerly of Piggott passed away October 14, 2010 at the Baptist Health Extended Care Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born January 15, 1931 to the late Frank and Lula (Wilkerson) Campbell in Marmaduke, Arkansas.

In addition to her parents Jane was preceded in death by Andrew Clayton, her husband, two infant children, her twin brother: James Campbell, and two other brothers: Billy and Jerry Campbell.

Surviving Jane is one sister: Reba Clayton of Paragould along with several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 16th, 2:00 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with David Floyd officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Helen Dean Cupp, 81, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010, at her home.

Mrs. Cupp was born February 25, 1929, in Paragould. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United General Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Scott Cupp of Paragould; one brother, Bob Kieffner of Newport; three sisters, Ona Ruff of Forrest City, Daisy Young of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Imogene Wilmoth of Stockton, California. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bertha Kieffner; her husband, Kenneth Cupp; and by six brothers, Arthur, Edwin, Elmer, Alvis, Amos, and J.W. Kieffner.

Carl A. Born, age 97, passed away October 15, 2010 at Belle Meade Nursing Center of Paragould. He was born July 8, 1913 in Lake City, Arkansas and lived his entire life in northeast Arkansas.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He worked for Allis Chalmers Tractor Company in several locations in northeast Arkansas. He and his wife owned and operated Granny’s Shack Vegetable Garden at Goobertown for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Tommie, of Belle Meade; daughter, Lavonda Tollison, Jonesboro; granddaughter, Tanya (Terry) Blevins, Paragould; and grandson, Greg (Becky) Schug, Benton; great granddaughters, Karen Dowdy, Karla Qualls, and Whitney Schug; step great granddaughter, Amy Blevins; step great grandsons, Chris Cavenor and Colton Blevins.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 18th, 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Wayne Clements and Larry Harrison officiating. Private burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, Paragould. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Terry Johnson, 61, of Paragould, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010, at St Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born November 29, 1948 in Paragould the son of the late Elbert and Weona Johnson. He was the owner and operator of Johnson Auto Sales, member of the Northeast Arkansas Horse Show Association and was an active member and usher at First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of forty years: Brenda Johnson, of the home; daughter: Amber and Jason Kingston; son: Blake and Tara Johnson; grandchildren: Jax and Ava Claire Johnson, Lanie and Libby Kingston, all of Jonesboro.

J. W. “Jay” Watson, 77, of Paragould, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, Jonesboro.

He was born May 7, 1933, in Boydsville, Arkansas, to Clyde and Opal Watson. Mr. Watson worked as a supervisor at Emerson Electric before retiring in 1995 after 39 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed quail hunting and horses. He loved raising, training and breeding registered Fox Trotters.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sue Helms Watson of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Becky Watson of Paragould; and one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Lee Davis of Jonesboro. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Miranda Rippard, Dustin Beasley, Whit Beasley, Scarlett Davis, Samantha Watson, T. J. Watson, and Shae Watson; and by ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Watson; a stillborn baby boy; one brother, E. E. “Doc” Watson; and one sister, Laveda Clayton.

Mrs. Margie Lee Cagle, 67, of Leachville passed away Monday, October 18, 2010, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center in Little Rock.

Born at Marmaduke, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Lovia Ashburn Ross and had lived most of her life in Leachville. She was a longtime member of the Leachville Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Cagle of the home; one son, Joey Cagle and his wife Anna of Fayetteville; two daughters, Sheila Landthrip and her husband Mack of Van Buren, Shelly Chandler and husband Jamie of Bartlett, Tenn.; one brother, J.W. Ross of Alabama; four sisters, Dorothy Scott of Jonesboro, Gladys Crawford of Searcy, Pauline Mouser of Leachville and Judy Nettles of Monette.; eight grandchildren, Ross Landthrip, Jace Landthrip, Rachel Chandler, Amanda Chandler, Courtney Cagle, Brittney Cagle, Justin Cagle and Breezy Cagle.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Brad Cagle, and a brother, Marion Ross.

Elmer Quinton Martin, 78, of Debary, FL., formerly of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010.

He was born December 15, 1931, in Etowah to Vernon and Susan Kirby Martin. He married Bernice Clark on April 15, 1953. He was a hard-working factory worker most of his life. He spent his last five years in Debary where he enjoyed watching the boats come in to the docks with his dog, Tiny.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; two sons, James and Larry Martin; a grandson, Tommy Shirley; two great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Larry Shirley; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Faye Martin; seven grandchildren, Robin Waddell, Dwayne Shirley, Jeff Shirley, Melanie Walker, Shannon Martin, Brandy Martin and Adam Martin; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Randell Martin; and seven sisters, Lawanda Doyle, Janie Brady, Shelby Van Bergen, Thelma Lee, Margaret Broad, Barbara Altman and Ila Tice.

Born July 5, 1941, at Light, she worked as a cake decorator at Harps for over 20 years. She was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel and Hazel Smith; and a brother, Robert Leroy Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Rudolph Clements; a son, Charles Clements and wife Ronda, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Cindy Land and husband Dennis, Pocahontas; four sisters, Jewellette Robertson, Heber Springs, Emma Charline Blann, Texas, Hazel Ruth Leonard, Ravenden, and Edna Jane Bailey, Ravenden Springs; two brothers, John Ben Smith and Luther Lavon Smith, both of Lone Oak; three grandsons, Jeff Clements, Justin Clements and Jordan Clements; and two great-grandchildren.

Johnnie Dale Long, 81, of Paragould passed away October 22, 2010. He was born May 8, 1929, to Tommie and Nettie Long. His hobby was working and taking care of all his antique tools. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of West View Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Jeanette Brashers.

He is survived by his wife, Melba Long; two sons, Terry and Randy Long, both of St. Louis, MO.; three brothers, Donald Long of St. Charles, MO., Raymond Long of Arcadia, Mo., and Gaylon Long of Romance, AR.; three sisters, Tommye Bishop of O’Fallon, MO., Brenda Vitale of Lake St. Louis, MO., and Pat Boling of Paragould; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

James Garlon Baker



James Garlon "Jim" Baker, 80, of Orange, Texas passed away Friday, October 22, 2010, at his residence.

Born in Marmaduke, Arkansas on December 11, 1929, Jim was the son of Mary Lucille (Cooper) and Radius Henry Baker. He worked as an electrician at Firestone, was a former disc jockey for KOGT Radio, and retired from the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shirley Ann (Baker) Greenwood; sisters, Elsie and Delsie Baker and Emma Gene Renfro.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carmen (Barrientos) Baker; son, Louis R. Baker of Conroe; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers; Thomas Lloyd Baker, Radius Baker, Jr. and Michael Baker; and sisters, Nella Mae Exum, Mary Alline Wolfenbarger, Glenda Hollifield, and Martha Froman.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 28th, 2:00 p.m. at Irby's Funeral Home in Rector, Arkansas. Officiating will be nephew, Bryan Exum. Burial will follow at Woodland Heights Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Martin, Monty and Amy Martin, two daughters and sons-in-law, Freda and Mike Easton, Mary and Roger Slayton, one brother; Bud Gregory all of Paragould, thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; her parents, Mary and Sam Gregory, her husband, R.A. “Tootie” Martin, three brothers, Wally Gregory, Ken Gregory and Leland Gregory and one sister: Berta Shaver.

Juanita Clayton of Paragould, 79, years old passed away in her home October 23, 2010.

Survived by her daughters, Tammy Smith, Lisa Bartlett and son Michael Snicler daughter-in-law Chris; two sisters, Vada and Linda; two brothers, Larry and Roger Vanpool; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Osmer Vanpool; four brothers, four sisters, one granddaughter and three sons.

Services will be Wednesday, October 27th, 12:00 p.m., at Phillips Funeral Home.

Bertha Viola Huckabay

 

Bertha Viola Huckabay, 86, Paragould, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010, at her home. She was born June 25, 1924 the daughter of the late James Arthur and Ruthie Erder Rowe Smith. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene W. Roberts, sisters, Mabel, Rachel Louise and Margaret Loraine Smith, Ruthie Joiner and Nellie Autry, and brother, Harold Smith.

She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Bertha loved flowers and gardening, spent a lifetime sewing and crafting with her hands, and gave of herself with care and love to all generations.

Survivors include her husband: David Huckabay, of the home; daughter and son-in-law: Jeanette and J.B. Huffmaster of Paragould; son and daughter-in-law: Farrel and Linda Roberts of Harrisburg; step daughters and stepsons-in-law: Marcia and David Elizandro of Arlington, Texas, Catherine and Ron Larkins of Frederick, Colorado; sister: Vearl Hendrix of Lafe; brothers: Charles A. Smith and Paul Smith, both of Paragould; grandchildren: Jack and Christina Huffmaster, Jeff and Sonya Huffmaster, Jason and Heather Huffmaster, Jared and Crystal Huffmaster, all of Paragould, David Elizandro of England, Ashley Elizandro of Arlington, Texas, Corrie Kienast, Casey and Zachary Gasper of Frederick, Colorado.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 1:00 PM, Thursday with Reverend Rick Roberts and Reverend David Swift officiating. Interment will follow at Corning Cemetery, in Corning. Memorials may be left to Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Mary Kathryn Schug

 

Mary Kathryn Schug, 84, of Paragould (Schugtown) passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born on June 12, 1926, in Goobertown, Arkansas, and was a homemaker

She was preceded in death by her mother, Janie Ethel Moore and her father, Herman Ward.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Poley Schug; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Janet Schug, Terry and Debbie Schug all of Paragould, and Ted and Tammy Schug of Schugtown. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Erica Schug, Jonathan Schug and Elizabeth Marsden; three great grandchildren, Abby, Austin and Andrew Ring; and a special foster daughter, Connie Cole and her children of Brownwood, Texas.

She was a member of Schugtown Methodist Church where she served as pianist and Sunday School teacher for over 60 years.

Pallbearers will include Terry Schug, Teddy Schug, Mike Schug, Kent Butler, Dale Butler and Danny McDaniel.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Herschel Richardson and Everett Isom officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideons International or the Childrens’ Home of Paragould.

Helen Marretta Branch



Helen Marretta Branch, 87, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

She was born February 19, 1923, in Bethel, Arkansas to Carl and Ethel Cook. Mrs. Branch was a homemaker, a seamstress, and a member of East Side Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Martha Jean McDaniel Rigsbee. Survivors include her husband, James Branch of the home; three sons, Steve Branch of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Roger Frey and James “Mickey” Branch, both of Pensacola, Florida. She is also survived by one daughter, Leigh Anne DeRoe of Paragould; ten grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 28th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Jason Noel and Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Audron Lemmons



Audron “Sonny” Lemmons, of Paragould, departed this life on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at AMMC. Sonny was born September 4, 1931 in Greene County, Arkansas. Sonny was a lifelong member of Mulberry Church of Christ, a volunteer for the 12th Street Senior Bees Center, a Cardinal fan, and an avid bowler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Pearl Lemmons; one infant son; one infant brother; four sisters, Lorene Lemmons Pearson, Sylvia Lemmons Harris, and twin infants.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Olivia Fuchs Lemmons; two sons, Richard (Carla) Lemmons and Macon (Regina) Lemmons; two daughters, Barbara (Douglas) Kruse and Rebecca (Troy) Moore; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 6:00 pm, Thursday in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home and services will be 10:00 am, Friday.

Sonny requested that memorials be sent to one of the following: Children’s Homes Inc. of Paragould, Crowley’s Ridge Academy or Crowley’s Ridge College.

Eunice Estelle Huckabay



Eunice Estelle Huckabay, 96 of Rector passed away October 27, 2010 at the National Health Care in Kennett. She was born January 14, 1914 to W.W. and Cora (Moss) French in Rector, Arkansas.

Preceding Eunice in death was her parents, her husband: Marvin Huckabay, two sisters: Mildred Inez and Hazel Bishop, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Surviving members of her family are three sons and their wives: Donald and Kay Huckabay of Rector, Eugene and Theresa Huckabay of Paragould and James and Pat Huckabay of Paragould, two daughters and their husbands: Esperita and Clay Charleton of Paragould, Wordia and Albert Vangilder of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, thirteen grandchildren,twenty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 30th, 2:00 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Brother Don Morris and Brother Kenny Burns officiating. Interment will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home also.

Tilden Ray Weaver



Tilden Ray Weaver passed peacefully from this life on October 27, 2010 at his home in Gainesville, AR after a long battle with cancer.

Ray was born August 19, 1939 in Cardwell, MO to Gladys Austin and Jack Weaver. He was an avid bow hunter, fisherman, accomplished wood worker and gardener. Ray retired from Emerson Electric in 1998 and took his retirement seriously. He enjoyed a variety of new adventures such as deep sea fishing and bayou shrimping. He expressed a keen interest in Native American cultures often seeking to educate himself through long discussions at local Pow Wows and archeological dig sites. His outdoor activities were accompanied by his loving wife and best friend of 49 years, Peggy (Cook) Weaver. With a heavy heart he laid to her to her eternal rest in July of this year. Ray is also preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ernest Lee, Howard Eugene, and Ronnie Gene Weaver.

A faithful provider and father Ray is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Vickie (Joel) Riley of Biloxi, MS; Karen (Craig) Vrabel of Denver, CO and Stacy (Rob) O’Bryan of St. Louis, MO; three precious granddaughters, Jessica (Nick) Carzoli, Lindsey and Brittney O’Bryan; two beloved step-grandchildren Mallory and Bryce Vrabel, brothers; Carl Weaver, Larry Austin, Gary Austin, Jackie Weaver, Jerry Weaver, Larry Weaver, Ricky Weaver and James Weaver; sisters; Joyce Robinson, Lou Varvil, Doris Harvey, Dorothy Guin, Linda LaGrange, and Jody Whitaker. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Sister Maudie Cook and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, October 29th, at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 30th in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Newman officiating.

James Hare Rowe



James Hare Rowe, 80, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Jimmy was born in Vanndale, AR on August 15, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Hare Grafton and James Edward Rowe and his wife, Sally Proctor Rowe. He is survived by one sister, Vivian Rowe McIntosh and one step brother, Oscar Grafton. He is also survived by his children, Lindsey Rowe Parten, Rebecca Rowe Hoskins (Richard), Paula Henderson (Bobby), Jim Rowe Jr. (Teresa) and Mike Rowe (Julie), seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a veteran of the Korean War and a 32nd Degree Mason. After working in the dairy industry for over 50 years, he retired from Borden Inc. He loved the game of golf and played until a few years ago.

The family will gather to welcome friends from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould, Arkansas. Graveside services will be on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould, AR. The family wishes for memorials be made to the charity of your choice.

Larry Don “Pops” Chipman Sr., 59, passed away October 28, 2010 in Jonesboro, AR. Larry was born August 22, 1951 in Paragould. Larry was of the Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil “Doty” Chipman; three brothers, Gary Wayne, Charles William Chipman and Johnnie Michael Chipman; one son, Joe “Bubba” Chipman of Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Judy (Firman) Chipman of Eureaka Springs, AR; two sons, Larry Don Chipman Jr. of Ohio.,John Wayne Chipman and his mother Beatrice Mullins Chipman both of Paragould, Ar.; three grandsons and five granddaughters of Ohio; two uncles Johnny Mullins and Jerry (Beverley Cole)Mullins of Paragould.

Jackie Wilder, 79 of Jonesboro, formerly of Paragould, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Ridgecrest Nursing Home in Jonesboro. Jackie was born was September 1, 1931, she was a retired bank teller and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mattie Houston Lee; son, Robbie Baldwin; sister, Florence White.
Survivors include her son, Mike Baldwin of Valley Village, CA, step-daughters, Cathy Lattus and Holly Sullivan both of Paragould. Grandchildren; Matthew and Joshua Baldwin, Angela Pigue, Bo Lattus, Heidi Cohn, Shannon Tripod, Sheri South and 20 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 4th, 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Letchworth officiating. The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Verna Louise (Perry) Johnson was born February 19, 1927, in Cleveland County, AR., to Roy and Alma Perry. She departed this life for a far better place on October 30, 2010, at the age of 83.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, W. B. Johnson in 1978; daughter, Mary Louise Spears; grandson, Justin Spears; brothers, Jessie and J. T. Perry.
Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Sue Johnson of Little Rock, AR; son, Travis Lee Johnson and wife, Margaret of Paragould; 10 grandchildren: Mark, Caroline, Debbie, James, Holly, Sterling, Vanda, Jackie, Donna, Tanyeau, many great and great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Paragould and very active in the Senior B.E.E.S. She loved her Gospel music, especially the Gaither Homecoming shows. She also enjoyed collecting pictures of her beloved grandbabies.
Visitation will be Monday, November 1st, 9:30 until11:00a.m. at Heath Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 11:00 at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Brian Johnson and Rev. Eddie Gene Wright officiating. Graveside services will be Monday, November 1st, 4:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, AR. Tommy Edward Rogers



Tommy Edward Rogers, 57 of Paragould passed away October 30, 2010 at his home. He was born March 14, 1953 at Beech Grove to Carl and Tresa Rogers. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church. He liked to play card games with his family and friends.

He is survived by his father, Carl Rogers; wife, Karen Rogers; two sons, Tommy Rogers II of Rector and Doyle Howard of Paragould; one daughter, Angela Patterson of Missouri; four brothers, Carl, Darrell, Dewayne and Franks Rogers all of Paragould; five sisters, Cindy Hinds and Diana Alfred of Paragould, Delayne Carr, Patricia Dement of Bono and Mary Lowe all of Texas and three grandchildren.

His mother, Tresa Rogers preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 2nd, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at East Side Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at the church Wednesday, November 3rd, 10:00 a.m. with Jason Noel officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery.

Farrell Lee Bass, 64, of Fontaine, passed away October 30, 2010, at his home. Born May 23, 1946, in Walnut Ridge, he was the owner and operator of Bass Construction and also served in the National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Dimpsey Bass and Helen Prock Ward; two sisters, Sarah Noell and Loretta Colburn; and a brother, Larry Neal Bass.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Bonnie Naydeane Kennedy Bass; five daughters, Leann Coleman and husband Shannon, Terrie Pruitt and husband Billy, Sonya Sharp and husband Wade, Misty Moon and husband Wesley, and Shan Strope and husband Eric; six siblings, Pat Bass, Linda Cook and husband Ralph, Marsha Rieney and husband Thomas, Joyce Arnold and husband Bruce, Marilyn Sharp and husband Jackie, and Wesley Bass and wife Samantha; 14 grandchildren, Kristina Wilson, Cortney Lee, Ashley Lee, Nitichia Lee, Justin Gifford, Felishia Moon, Aubrey Moon, Colton Moon, Zachery Moon, Casey Pruitt, Tyler Pruitt, Tanner Bass, Blake Strope, Shyann Strope; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, November 5th, 3:00 p.m. at the Lorado Baptist Church with Wayne Bass officiating. Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro had charge of arrangements.

Rev. James Elvis Swafford



Born April 17, 1923, Rev. James Elvis Swafford, 87 of Paragould passed away Sunday October 31, 2010 at his residence. Bro. Swafford was a retired Baptist minister and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Nadgerine Swafford; parents, Marshall and Gertrude Hinton Swafford; brother Charles Swafford. Rev. Swafford pastored many different churches: Cornoa Road Baptist Church, Flint, MI, Walcott Baptist Church, Imboden 1st Baptist Church, Immanuel Baptist Church, Doniphan, MO, Forrest City 2nd Baptist Church, Walcott Baptist Church, Rosewood Baptist Church, St. Bethlehem 1st Baptist Church in Bethlehem, TN, Big Creek Baptist Church and interim pastor of Vines Chapel Baptist Church until April 2010.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Gloria and Jim McMillon of Paragould and Cindy Whiteside of Campbell, MO; son and daughter-in-law, James E. Swafford, Jr. and wife Kaye of Rossville, GA and a special friend, Euva Witcher of Paragould. Grandchildren, Royce and Amanda McMillon, Rusty and Vanessa McMillon, Richard Whiteside, Cordellia Whiteside Risley, Brian and Lavanda Swafford. Great grandchildren, Talon and Tenley McMillon, Bryson Swafford, Grifen and Silas Whiteside.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 4th, from 12:00 noon until1:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Charles Abanathy officiating.
