Roxie Mae Poe Miles
Roxie Mae Poe Miles, 91, of Walnut Ridge died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005 at Lawrence Hall
Nursing Center.
Born at Walnut Ridge, she had lived for several years in Lorado, Egypt and Bono, returning
to Walnut Ridge two years ago. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist belief.
Survivors include three daughters, Bobbie Jones and Jane High, both of Bono, and Nila
Vaughn of Ash Flat; three sons, Ray Poe of Jonesboro, Dennis Poe of Paragould and Sam Poe
of Walcott; three sisters, Ouida Payne and Ella Rorex, both of St. Louis, and Sue Justus
of Hot Springs; a brother, Tom Sammons of California; 29 grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Poe; two daughters, Helen McQuay and Nina
Poe; her parents, Sam and Edna Sammons; and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie, with the Rev.
Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Roy Lee McMains
Roy Lee McMains, 61, of Paragould died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005 at his residence.
Born at Abilene, Texas, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a heavy
equipment operator and of the Pentecostal belief.
Survivors include two brothers, John McMains of Woodlake, Calif., and Chesley McMains of
Visalia, Calif.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Greene County Memorial Gardens
Cemetery, with Benny Isom officiating. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of
arrangements. The procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday.
No visitation is scheduled.
Virginia Beatrice Sickler
Virginia Beatrice Sickler the daughter of the late Samuel Allen and Willie Kennedy Allen
born April 3, 1948 in Amory, Mississippi died October 4, 2005 in Paragould, Arkansas at
the age of 57 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Sickler.
Survivors include:
Three daughters: Lisa Miller of Manila, Arkansas; Phyllis Johnson, of Paragould, Arkansas;
Joann Topwal of Paragould, Arkansas.
Three sisters: Carolyn Hall of Nettleton, Mississippi; Martha Cowley of Amory,
Mississippi; and Beatrice Parker of Amory, Mississippi.
Six Brothers: Delbert McCullar of Nettleton, Mississippi; Ray Allen of Peoria, Illinois;
Dewey Allen of Hamilton, Alabama; Robbie Allen James Allen Duke Allen all of Alabama.
Seven grandchildren: Jeremy, Jesse, Kayla, Morgan, Heather, Joseph and Carl.
One great-grandchild: McKenzie.
Funeral services will be held today at noon at the Seed of Faith Full Gospel Church in
Paragould with Rev. Truman Wycoff officiating.
Burial will be Shiloh Cemetery in Paragould, Arkansas. Visitation was held
Thursday, October 6, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Seed of Faith Full Gospel Church in
Paragould. Powell Funeral Home of Steele, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
Pauline Sylvia Polly Rassette
Pauline Sylvia Polly Rassette, 92, of Paragould, formerly of Manila, died
Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Mrs. Rassette was born
September 6, 1913, in Tennessee. She was a retired butcher for Jolliff Grocery in Manila,
and a Christian.
Survivors include one daughter, Madlyn Evans Cates of Pocahontas; one brother, Floyd
Rassette of Paragold; nieces and nephews, Magtha Slayton, Aletrice Hughes, Sylvia Eubanks,
Kaydon Stuart, Fred Stuart and Joe Stuart, all of Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Sarah Rassette; and by three sisters,
Geraldine Stuart, Vivian Ceary and Ruth Monroe.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Wood's Chapel Cemetery, with Darrell
Douglas officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Laura Frances Lamkin
Laura Frances Helms Lamkin, 74, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005 at her
residence.
Born at Paragould, she lived most of her life in Jonesboro. She was a retired nurse's aide
for Rosehaven Retirement Home and a member of Strawfloor Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Shaw and Lisa Ann Treece, both of Jonesboro; a son,
Larry Coleman of Lake City; three sisters, Mary Alice Feezor, Lenora M. Lewis and Eva Jane
Coffey, all of Jonesboro; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cora Davis Slatton; three brothers; and
three sisters.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Strawfloor Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark
Sadler officiating.
Visitation will be from 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Eva Murry Jobe, 89, of Paragould, died Thursday, October 6, 2005, at her residence. She
was born March 26, 1916 in Greene County. Mrs. Jobe was a homemaker and for over 30 years
was a member of the Third Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include nieces, Shirley S. Kurr of St. Charles, Missouri, Wilma Robertson of
Lake City, Arkansas, Marietta Speers of Terre Haute, Indiana, Patsy Fitzlou of Keiser,
Arkansas, Dee Jones of Weiner, Janice Tubbs of Pitts, Arkansas, Louella Wheaton of
Jonesboro and Phylis Jobe and Linda Jobe, both of Cash. She is also survived by nephews,
David Ellington, Rudy Ellington of Cardwell, Missouri, Gary Forester of Illinois, Kenny
Williams of Pitts, Arkansas, Loren Williams of Security, Colorado, Donald Williams of
Denver, Colorado, and by Levon Jobe of Cash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Jobe; her parents, Robert and Essie
Carmack; two brothers, Thomas Burl Carmack, and Walter Verlon Carmack; and by one sister,
Evelyn Mary Jackson.

Joseph Russell Back, 75, of Paragould died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist
Medical Center.
A retiree from Emerson Electric Company, he was veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving
in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart along with several other
medals and awards.
Survivors include a son, Joe Back of Paragould; three brothers, John Back, William Back
and James Back, all of Paragould; and three sisters, Joann Back of Paragould, Dorothy Back
Frost of Lafe and Katherine Back Graul of Cahokie, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Russell and Anna Marie Garrett Back.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at Heath Funeral Home, with Leonard Whitlock
officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery at Paragould. Heath Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.

Graveside services for Glen Huston Andis, 30, of Varner, formerly of Paragould, who died
Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Paragould.

Dorothy Ruth Croft, 80, of Paragould, died October 7, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist Medical
Center. Born October 13, 1924 at Arbyrd, Missouri, she was a retired restaurant employee
and was of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by her husband, Dallas Croft of the home; nine sons, Eddie Byrd of
Paragould, Leonard Byrd of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, Bryan Simpson of Boston,
Massachusetts, Darrell Simpson of Paragould, Sammy Simpson of Tacoma, Washington, Ricky
Simpson of Jewett, Texas, Larry Simpson of Winter Haven, Florida, Dennis Croft and Lindsey
Croft both of Florida; five daughters, Virginia Hanks of Paragould, Peggy Morgan of
Paragould, Clara Hunt of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Wanda Blevins of Paragould and Gail Croft
of Florida; three sisters, Shirley Simpson of Little Rock, Johnny Bruce of Ozark,
Arkansas, and Elizabeth Snyder of Lake City, Arkansas; 39 grandchildren and numerous
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Glenard Byrd and Sam Simpson; one son,
Tommy Simpson; her father, Tom Lenderman; her mother, Sylvia Howard, and one brother,
James Howard.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Rick Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday,
6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Margaret Hackworth-Springer
Margaret Hackworth-Springer, daughter of the late Noel Thrift and Nona Blanch Basham
Thrift, was born April 1, 1919, in Fort Smith, Ark., and passed away October 7, 2005, at
Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould, Ark., at the age of 86.
She was married to Coy Hackworth on March 18, 1938, who preceded her in death on December
10, 1964.
She married Wayne Springer on November 27, 1984, in Paragould, Ark., who survives.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Springer of Hornersville, Mo.; three daughters, Vicky
Row and husband Ronnie of Paragould, Ark., Joyce Mitchell and husband Ron of Tampa, Fla.,
and Wanda Tripp of South Haven, Mich.; one sister, Donnie Edwards of Alabama.
Mrs. Springer is survived by eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one
great-great grandchild. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vonda Pflaumer; four brothers, James Thrift,
Joe Thrift, Leonard Thrift, Rufus Thrift; and one sister, Evelyn Zantello.
Visitation was Sunday, October 9, 2005, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the McDaniel Hornersville
Chapel, Hornersville, Mo. The funeral was October 9, 2005, at the McDaniel Hornersville
Chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jack Hailey officiating. Burial was at Horner Cemetery,
Hornersville, Mo.

Flo Gaskill Talley, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri died Friday, October 7, 2005 at the
Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 10, 1930 in Pittsburg,
Oklahoma. Mrs. Talley was a retired custom draper, she was a member of the Southside
Assembly of God Church and a former Missionet Teacher for the church.
Survivors include: her husband: Leonard Len Talley of the home, two sons and
daughter-in-law: Mike and Tammie Gaskill of Paragould, Arkansas and Tony Gaskill of
Booneville, Arkansas one brother: Leon Eberle of Enfield, Connecticut, one sister: Millie
Wilson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two grandchildren Andrew and Seth Gaskill of Paragould.
Mrs. Talley was preceded in death by: her parents: Albert and Sarah Eberle and three
brothers: Frank, Ed and Alvin Eberle.

Danny Lee Alberson, 52, of Paragould, formerly of Cardwell, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 8,
2005 at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.
Born at Malden, Mo., he was a lifelong resident of the northeast Arkansas and southeast
Missouri areas. He was a former employee of Monroe Manufacturing in Paragould and of the
Baptist faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Ronald Dennis Burton of Portland, Ore. and James Burton of
Campbell, Mo.; and five sisters, Bonnie Taylor of Monette, Carolyn Anders of Smithville,
Mo., Doris Bucher of Menden, Mich., Freda Watson of Paragould and Phyllis Maple of
Cardwell.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Howard Funeral Service in Leachville, with
James Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Lulu Cemetery near Senath, Mo.

Alva Samuel Branch, Sr., a retired operator for Exxon Mobil USA, died
at 12:30 pm Saturday, October 8, 2005, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 89, a resident of Greenwell Springs and a
native of Paragould, AR. He was a US Army
veteran of World War II. Visitation at
Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, October 9, from 5 pm to 8 pm
and resumes at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church on Monday, October 10, from 10 am until
religious service at 11 am, conducted by the Reverend Dennis Terry and the Reverend George

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Caputa; son, Alva S.
Joe Branch, Jr.; brother, William Grayson Branch; four grandchildren, Debbie

grandchildren. He was preceded in death by

Paula Stephanie Haskins, 50, of Paragould, formerly of Manila, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005
at her residence.
Born at Manila, she had been a longtime Manila resident before making her home at
Paragould nine years ago. She was a retired caregiver and a member of Seventh and Mueller
Church of Christ at Paragould.
Survivors include a son, Eric Joe Rich of Paragould; a daughter, April Whitaker of
Paragould; a brother, Terry Rich of Manila; three sisters, Shirley Bryant, Diane Fleeman
and Phyliss Murray, all of Manila; and two grandchildren, Conner Whitaker and Nicholas
Whitaker.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Manila Cemetery, with the Rev. William
Piercy officiating.

Melvina Williams, 88, of Paragould died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist Medical
Center in Paragould.
Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include four sons, Jimmy Williams of Livingston, Texas, Clifford Williams of
Branson, Mo., Darrell Williams of Glencoe and Donald Williams of Wood River, Ala.; three
sisters, Evelyn Adams of Paragould, Jewel Davis of Light and Wanda Parsley of Trumann; six
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Williams; her parents; three brothers; and
two sisters.

with the Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near

Bonnie Beth Miller Baldwin Coleman Crockett, 66, of Paragould, died Wednesday, October 12,
2005, at her residence. Born November 10, 1938, in Powhattan, Arkansas, she retired from
her self-employed office janitorial service. Mrs. Crockett was a member of Robb's Chapel
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Crockett, Sr. of the home; one son and
daughter-in-law, Anthony and Jackie Coleman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and J.
R. Remagen, Cindy and Doug Wigginton all of Paragould; one stepson, Kenneth Crockett, Jr.
of Joliet, Illinois; and one stepdaughter, Kim Conto of Paragould. She is also survived by
nine brothers, Bob Miller of Kansas City, Missouri, John P. Miller, Edgar Miller, David
Miller, Gary Miller and Patrick Miller, all of Paragould, Rick Miller and Bill Miller,
both of Lafe, Jerry Miller of Ash Flat; four sisters, Yvone Martin, Sue Smith, Mary
Wilkinson and Sharon Hatcher all of Paragould. Other survivors include six grandchildren,
Cheddy Wiggington of Little Rock, Teddy Wiggington, Coco Davis, Tina Kelley, Sadie and
Tyler Coleman, all of Paragould; three great grandchildren, Grant and Chaney Davis, Cori
Hall; six step grandchildren; one step great grandchild and by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Geneva Lingo Miller; one sister,
Florence Sis Crockett and one brother, Stephen Miller.

Warren Jackson Pearson
Warren Jackson Pearson, 80, of Paragould died October, 12, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist
Medical Center. He was born April 19, 1925 in Rector and was retired from Reelfoot
Packaging in Union City, Tennessee. He was a member of Walcott Church of Christ.
He leaves a wife, Beneda Norman Pearson of the home; three children, Mary Jane Flowers of
Walcott, Jerry W. Pearson of Dresden, Tennessee, and Jackie A. Pearson of Paragould; one
sister, Betty Sue Baker of Bethel Spring, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren, twenty three
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; many many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Pearson; brothers, Herbert and
Herman Pearson; sisters, Viola (Babe) Carter, Nellie B. Pearson and Faye J. Burkheart.
Visitation will be 6:00-9:00 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be
1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Sam Becerra officiating. Burial will

Emma Jean Cole
Emma Jean Cole, 88, of Paragould, died Friday, October 14, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist
Medical Center. Born in Greene County, June 17, 1917 the daughter of the late Evan D. and
Annie White Songer.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Wilkerson, Frances Williams and
Evelyn Watson and her brothers, Lawson & E.D. Songer.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Cole of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Norman
& Ann Batey of Paragould; sister, Princess Doyle Riley of Michigan; grandson, Kelly
Batey of Memphis, Tennessee; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Leigha & Shawn Roleson
of Paragould; great granddaughters, Brittian Anna Roleson and Emma Reese Roleson and
several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cole was the Paragould City Clerk for 12 years, payroll clerk at the Arkansas Highway
Department for 10 years, was with the Greene County Health Department for several years
and was the Greene County Deputy Tax Assessor for four years. She was a member of Second
& Walnut Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends tonight, Sunday, October 16 at Heath Funeral Home from 6-8
p.m. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday October 17, at Heath Colonial Chapel
with James Brown and Phil Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County
Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Albert Ernest DePriest, 72, died October 17, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Born December 1, 1932, in Paragould, he was retired from Emerson Electric, was an Army
veteran of the Korean War, and of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary DePriest of the home; two sons, Rick DePriest of Ft.
Worth, Texas, and Steve DePriest of Paragould; one daughter, Lisa DePriest of Paragould;
one brother, Glen DePriest of Paragould; one sister, Margie Kuykendall of Marmaduke; six
grandchildren, Christy Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Michelle Henderson and Ericka DePriest
of Burleson, Texas, Brandi DePriest, Brittney DePriest and Dillon Pique, all of Paragould,
and by three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willy and Thelma Franks DePriest; a daughter,

Lula Mae Edge, 82, of Paragould died October 17, 2005 at her residence. She was born on
February 27, 1923 in Gosnell, Arkansas. Mrs. Edge was a homemaker and of the Baptist
faith.
Survivors include: three sons: Carl Morgan, Roger Morgan and Glenn Morgan; two daughters:
Gloria Duff and Jewelene Bynum all of Paragould; two brothers: Lofton Sipes of Dwight,
Illinois and J.D. Sipes of Trumann, Arkansas; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Edge was preceded in death by: her parents: Willie and Rosie Sipes; her husband:
Tommy Edge; one son: James Morgan; one daughter: Barbara Ann Morgan; two sisters and one
great-granddaughter.

Thomas Edward Williams Sr.
Thomas Edward Williams Sr., 87, of Paragould died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 at St.
Bernard's Medical Center.
Born at Craighead County, he was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple
Heart. He was a retired punch set operator and set-up man for 25 years for the Western
Electric Co. He was a member of Bethel Station Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Violet L. Williams of the home; a son, Thomas Edward Williams
Jr. of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a daughter, Loretta Jane Cornell of Greentown, Ind.; two
sisters, Rachel Edge of Arbyrd, Mo. and Lucille Rouse of Paragould; four grandchildren;
and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and Daniel Henry Williams; four brothers,
Lee Williams, Jeff Williams, James Williams and Willie Williams; a sister, Beulah Tucker;
a granddaughter, Kimberly Newlin; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould with
Doyan Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Frances Irene Garrison
Frances Irene Garrison, 80 of Paragould, Arkansas died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Mrs. Garrison was born on July 3, 1925 in Paragould.
Miss Garrison was a lifelong resident of Paragould. She attended Elmwood Elementary and
Paragould High School. She worked for more than 40 years at a local shirt factory. After
retirement, she became an active volunteer in various activities in Griffin Memorial
United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church board.
She also managed the food bank through the church, and worked as a volunteer at the
information desk and gift shop at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Survivors include: one brother: Willard T. Garrison of Savoy, Illinois, one niece: Virnita
C. Whitt of Homer Illinois, three brothers: Wilbur, Theodore and Charles Garrison and one
nephew John Lilley; several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Rita Jane Mathis Garrison; and three
brothers.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Linwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael
Sutton officiating. The funeral procession will depart at 2:45 p.m. Visitation will be
from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Roddy Richard Davis
Roddy Richard Davis, 60, of Marmaduke died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at his home.
He was born at Long Beach, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Davis of the home; two sons, Mark Davis of Walnut Ridge
and Wade Willis of Lafe; his mother and stepfather, Judy and Hank Fugiwara of Alta Loma,
Calif.; three brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roddy Davis.
There will be no funeral services. Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas is in charge of
arrangements.
Addisyn Marie Wince
Addisyn Marie Wince, infant daughter of Jeremy and Amanda Rowland of Paragould, died
Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
In addition to the parents, survivors include three brothers, Timmy Rowland, Jason Rowland
and Blake Wince, all of Paragould; and her grandparents, Charles Owens, Carol Younger, and
Addie and Colleen Wince, all of Paragould.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Finch Cemetery with Floyd Ryles
officiating.

Glenn Earl Gramling, 74, of Paragould died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at Rector Healthcare.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the former Stanford United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mick Gramling of the home; three sons, Richard Gramling of
Batesville and Scott Gramling and Kelly Gramling, both of Paragould; a brother, Jerry
Gramling of Sherwood; two sisters, Joy Powers and Judy Rowland, both of Stanford; six
grandchildren, Josh Gramling, Kelsey Gramling, Alex Gramling, Kaitlyn Gramling, Ali
Gramling and Spencer Gramling; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mabel Gregory Gramling; and a
granddaughter.

Annie Lee Holaway, 68, of Paragould died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist
Medical Center.
She was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Co.
Survivors include her husband, William Keith Holaway of the home; a daughter, Patricia
Lane of Dixie; two sons, George Andrews of Vanzant, Mo., and Michael Andrews of Heber
Springs; her mother, Betty DeBrock of Paragould; a sister, Betty Sue DeBrock of Dixie; a
half-brother, Floyd Wineland of Fresno, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Freddy Mack and Larry Don Andrews; her father,
Sidney Thomas DeBrock; and a sister.

Joan Hopkins, 92, of Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould, formerly of Jonesboro, died
Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.
Born in Graves County, Ky., she moved back to Arkansas in 1998 from Chatsworth, Calif.
Survivors include a son, Gene Lewis of Paragould; a daughter, Cheri Rudman of Canoga Park,
Calif.; two sisters, Lola Lary of Jonesboro and Lottie Heath of Cathedral City, Calif.;
seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
All services will be private, with Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro in charge of
arrangements.
Ethel Lurene Washington
Ethel Lurene Washington, 81, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at her daughters residence.
She was a lifelong Greene County resident and worked at the Paragould Nursing Center and
the Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was a member of Union Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Vangilder and Vicki Largent, both of Paragould; a
son, Billy Vern Washington of Paragould; three sisters, Bonnie Terry of Bakersfield, Sue
LeMay of San Juan Baptista, Calif., and Melva Bryant of Bend, Ore.; and eight
grandchildren, Melissa Lands, Shannon Hovis, Ashley Robinson, Michael Washington, Eric
Washington, Jason Washington, Jay Grooms and Christina Washington; and seven
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern Babe Washington; a daughter,
Kerry Lynn; a son, Roy Gene; her parents, Claude and Grace Sampson; and six brothers.

and Todd Ellis of Kennett, Mo.; a daughter, Tammy Lindsey of Kennett; two brothers, Carl
Floyd Ellis of Sycamore, Ill. and Larry Charles Ellis of Sublette, Ill.; six sisters,
Barbara Easley and Mary Edwards, both of Paragould, Flora Pierce and June Forrester, both
of Wynne, Alma Landers of Scottsville, Ky., and Pam Shirley of Wynne; 10 grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ellis; and his parents, Lois Hubert Ellis and
Ruthie Marie Dalton Smith.

Billy Don Andrews, 70, of Brookland died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 at NEA Medical Center in
Jonesboro.
Born in the Finch community near Paragould, he was formerly of Goobertown. He was a
retired factory worker for Emerson Electric Company in Paragould and of the Church of
Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Mae Andrews of the home; four sons, George Thomas Andrews
of Vanzant, Mo., Michael Keith Andrews of Heber Springs, Ernest Randel of Brookland and
Gary Randel of Jonesboro; four daughters, Patricia Ann Lane of Dixie, Sue Lammers of
Brookland and Darlene Brandon and Terrie Randell, both of Jonesboro; four sisters,
Glendene Gramling and Lerlene Stracener, both of Brookland and Dorthy Jackson and Ruth
Hooks, both of Paragould; a brother, Jay Andrews of Paragould; 21 grandchildren; and
several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Don Andrews; his parents, Ernest George and
Florence Matthews Andrews; and a brother, Dossie Andrews.

James William Freeman
James "J.W." William Freeman, 73, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Oct. 25 at St.
Bernard's Regional Medical Center.
Born at Lorado, he worked for GM in Flint, Mich. and was also a heavy equipment operator.
He was a former commander of the V.F.W., a member of the Eagles and the American Legion.
He was also an Army veteran serving during the Korean War and a Baptist.
Survivors include his fiancé, Nola Lackey; two daughters, Brenda Cole of Suffolk, Va. and
Terri Simpson of Flint; a sister, Glenda Reeves of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Preston
Cole and Elizabeth Cole, both of Suffolk, and Corey Taylor of Flint; and a
great-grandchild, Devon Taylor of Flint.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W.C. and Ednis King Freeman; and a sister,
Louise Watkins.

Blackwood officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Andrew William "Drew" Crawford, 25, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005.
Born at Paragould, he was of the Baptist faith.

grandmothers, Billye Crawford of Tuckerman and Zela Rhoads of Glencoe.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Alfred William Crawford and R. G. Rhoads.

Harold Colin North
Harold Colin North, 63, of Paragould, died Thursday, October 27, 2005, at the NEA Medical
Center in Jonesboro. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri March 28, 1942. Harold was a
member of the Liberty Church of Christ. Prior to becoming disabled he was employed by the
Arkansas Highway Department in Paragould.
He is survived by his wife, Sherlene Dial North of the home; two sons and
daughter-in-laws: Terry and Bonita North of Paragould and Eric and Laurie North of
Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren: Seth, Sierra, Megan, Dylan, Courtney and
Sara; mother-in-law, Almarie Dial of Paragould; and his sister-in-law, Becky Cole of
Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Doris North and his father-in-law, Bill
Dial.

Norma Elaine Treadway
Norma Elaine Treadway, 86, of Walnut Ridge, died Thursday, October 27, 2005, at Lawrence
Memorial Hospital, Walnut Ridge. She was born May 11, 1919, in Greene County, Arkansas.
Mrs. Treadway was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Irma Hickman and Glenda McFall, both of Paragould; two
sisters, Sadie Toler, of Paragould, and Carrie Read, of Troy, Missouri. She is also
survived by four grandchildren, Pam Collins, Steve McFall, Debra Johnson, Joshua McFall;
and by two great-grandchildren; and by four step great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Treadway was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Susan Treadway; one brother,
Lawrence Treadway; and by three sisters, Nellie Swindle, Estell Carter, and Ellen Vick.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould,
with Phillip Swindle officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Knott Cemetery.

Daniel Ryan Johnson
Daniel Ryan Johnson, 28, of Paragould died October 29, 2005 in Paragould. Born September
18, 1977 in Kennett, Missouri. He was a graduate of Greene County Tech and a student at
Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He was a member of Southside Community Church and
an avid golfer.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Danny and Patsy Johnson of Paragould; wife, Candice
Johnson of Jonesboro; one sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Daniel Davis; maternal
grandparents, Curtis and Ellen Smith; niece, ReillyClaire Davis and nephew Nash Davis all
of Paragould.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Reverend L. E. and Frances Johnson,
and maternal grandparent, Charles Ashabranner.

Paul Glover, JR
Paul Glover, JR, of Flint, Michigan, formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, October 30th,
2005 at McLaren Regional Medical Center of Flint.
Born January 10, 1928, in Paragould, he retired after thirty-two years with General
Motors.
Survivors include one brother, Bob Glover of Paragould; nephews and nieces, Ron and Sandy
Edwards of Pocahontas, J.D. and Freda Bateman and Boling and Reba Gains, all of Paragould.
He is also survived by his best friends, James Teeple of Flint, Michigan, and Patsy
Burress of Paragould; his lady friend, Alberta Grabowski of Flint; and by several cousins,
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Ellington Skaggs; one brother, Ardell A.
Skaggs; and one sister, Wilma V. Edwards.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Ada Evelyn (Ward) Washington
Ada Evelyn (Ward) Washington, formerly of Paragould, died October 31, 2005, at Washington
Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville, at the age of 79. Born December 16, 1925, in
Pocahontas, she was one of 13 children of the late Hugh and Alma Ward of Marmaduke, and
the widow of the late Doyle B. Parker Washington of Paragould. She was preceded in death
by nine of her siblings: Bealee Ward, Golden Ward, Vera Cannady, Leta Woodsmall, Palos
Roberson, Imogene Wood, Claude Ward, James Ward, and Hugh Jean Ward.
Mrs. Washington was a member of the North Street Church of Christ in Fayetteville. She was
a dedicated Christian and loved to sing gospel songs. Her greatest pleasures in life were
her church activities and her loving family.
Survivors include two sons: Gary Washington of Beebe, Manuel Washington and wife, Sarah of
Bentonville; one daughter, Deborah Goodwin and husband, Mike of Winslow and three sisters,
Beatrice McInturff of Newalla, Oklahoma, Faye Rushton of Searcy, and Billie Joyce Crouch
of Dexter, Missouri. She is also survived by six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren;
fourteen great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today, November 2, at Moore's Chapel in
Fayetteville and Friday from noon until 2 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paraoguld. The
funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 4 at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel,
Paragould. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Elmer Bigum Arnold, 83, of Chula Vista, California formerly of Marmaduke, died
Monday, October 31, 2005 at the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. He was retired from
Boeing Aircraft.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Lewis and Fleecie Arnold of West
Memphis, Arkansas; one sister, Edith Lyons of Foley, Minnesota, several nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will begin Saturday, 11:30-1 p.m. the service follows at 1 p.m. at the Heath
Colonial Chapel with Reverend Ron Kirkland officiating. Burial will be at Harvey's's
Chapel Cemetery, Marmaduke.

Norma Lou Griffith
Norma Lou Griffith, age 76, of Paragould, formerly of Manila died
Monday, October 31, 2005 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Born in Paragould she was the daughter of the late John and Iva
Dollar Steele and had been a Manila resident for 21 years before making her home in
Paragould in 2000. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist Faith.
Survivors include: her daughter, Karen Kay Dermigny, Maryville, TN., six
grandchildren,eight great-grandchildren
