Flossie Mae Pannells

 

Flossie Mae Pannells, 84, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at her home. She was born July 22, 1927 in Stanford the daughter of the late Daniel Jones and Really Mae Lenderman Dale. Her husband, Jimmie Eldon Pannells, son, Danny Pannells, daughter, Judith Gail Pannells and sister, Lucille Sanders precede her in death. She was a cook and waitress at Wise Castle for over twenty years, school cook and teacher’s aide for twelve years and employee at Sue Sue's Daycare for ten years. She also worked for her niece, Jeannie Hyde at Jeannie's Hyde-a-away Salon. She loved cooking, fishing, camping, kids and was a member of Lake Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include her grandson and granddaughter-in-law: Chris and Sharon Pannells of Rogers; sister: Mozelle Eubanks of Leachville and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated Friday, November 4th, 1:00 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel, with Reverend Wayne Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Nancy Lou Estes
 


Nancy Lou Estes, 71, Paragould, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at her home. Nancy was born March 2, 1940 in Greene County, Arkansas the daughter of the late Virgil and Lorene Weatherford Dunlap. She retired two months ago as the secretary at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church after 24 years. Nancy loved providing service through church. She has been the organist for over thirty years. She also enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, sewing and cooking.

She is survived by her loving husband: Dennis Estes, of the home: daughters and son-in-law: Laura and Michael Gray, Amy Potter, Jenny Estes; sisters: Helen Wright, Peggy Garner; brothers and sister-in-law: Eddie and Erna Dunlap, Randy Dunlap; grandchildren: Dustin Estes, Taylor Potter and his fiancé, Danielle Wright, Seth Gray, all of Paragould, Jacob Widmer and his wife, Trussie; great grandson: Stephen Widmer, all of Valley Springs, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated Friday, November 4th, 3:00 p.m. at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church, with Reverend Michael Sutton officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Harold Gene Wagner

 

Harold Gene "Moose" Wagner age 61 of Paragould, formerly of Rector, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born August 18, 1950 in Rector to Raymond and Gladys Wagner.

Mr. Wagner retired from Wonder Bread, and he was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include a son, Honus Wagner, Sr., his mother, Gladys Wagner Davis, two grandsons, Tomas Fry and Honus Wagner, Jr. all of the home.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector, AR. Graveside services will be Saturday, November 5th, 10:00 a.m. at the Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector, AR.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Stone, James Fry, Jack Clouse, Dennis Stahl, Nathan Wheeler and Chris Davenport.

Juanita Wilborn Killian Parham

 

Juanita Wilborn Killian Parham, 86 of Cardwell, MO., passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born September 6, 1925 the daughter of the late Clifford and Rachel Owens Wilborn. She was also preceded in death by first husband, James M. Killian, second husband, Raymond Parham, sister, Betty Jo Graves, grandson, Jeremy James Peeples. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cardwell.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Kathy Lee and Ron Sanders and Zaneta Kay Peeples all of Little Rock; step-daughter: Rita Parham of Olive Branch, MS; brother: Lawrence Wilborn of Roselle, IL; sisters: Irene Tondu of Laguna Niguel, CA; Dorothy Cleveland of Aurora, CO; Helen Dull of Farmington, MO; grandchildren: Mark Sanders, David Sanders, Jacinda Guillory, Melissa Peeples, one step-granddaughter and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, 12:00 until1:00 at the First Baptist Church in Cardwell, MO with the celebration of her life to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverends Clyde Cook and Ron Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Sandra Kay Higdon

 


Sandra Kay Higdon, 55, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2011 at her home. Sandra was born September 11, 1956 in Paragould. She was a beautician and attended Immanuel Baptist Church. Her father, Bobby Dean Watson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her mother, Sally Holifield of Paragould daughters and son-in-law: Crystal and Michael White of Jonesboro, Samantha Higdon of Paragould; son: Ricky and B.J. Micheli of Lafe; sisters: Vickie Gunn of Rector, Susan Cox Risener of Paragould; brothers: Jerry Watson and Michael Watson of Paragould, grandchildren: Lauren Goodman, Ashlyn Micheli, Serenity Parker, Landon Hill and Madalyn White.

**The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather Saturday, November 5th, 10:00 a.m. at Shiloh Cemetery for a graveside services with Reverend Kenny Johnson officiating.

Neva Jewell Dawson Anderson



Neva Jewell (Dawson) Anderson, 66 of Paragould, Arkansas passed away November 3, 2011, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She was born December 29, 1944 to Clarence and Lola Dawson. Neva was a retired legal secretary for Rhine, Rhine, and Young. After an early retirement, Neva became a nanny to over 25 infants, who along with their parents loved her dearly. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Center Hill Church of Christ. Neva and her family were previous long time members of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

Neva is survived by one son, Lance Anderson of Paragould; one daughter Heather Liggett, son-in-law, Dr. Charles Liggett; two granddaughters, Emery and Piper Liggett all of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; three brothers, Edward (Christine) Dawson of Williford, Arkansas, Cecil (Ann) Dawson of Montgomery, Illinois, Hoyt (Hazel) Dawson of Paragould; six sisters, Josephine Wood of Houston, Texas, Charlene Johnson of Rowlett, Texas, Melba (Edwin) Land of Searcy, Arkansas, Bonnie (Charles) Tinsley, Marvine (McArthur) Tedder, and Sue Carter, all of Paragould, Arkansas, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years, Charles Randall “Chuck” Anderson, one infant son, Charles Paul Anderson, five brothers, Robert, Charles, Herman, Wilburn, Earl Dawson, and by two sisters, Allene Miles and Mary Dawson.

Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould..

Funeral services will be Monday, November 7th, 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Edwin Land of Searcy and Art Smith of Paragould officiating. Music will be provided by Jearl Howard and the Crowley’s Ridge’s Academy Chorus. Burial will follow at the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers include; Adam Hampton, Jason Hampton, Josh Agee, Chance Johnson, Brian Carter and Jeremy Ewing.

Novella Jeannette Ussery

 


Novella Jeannette “Boobie” Ussery, 66 of Paragould, went to meet her Lord Jesus Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born on August 16, 1945 in Paragould, to the late Donald Clark and Hazel Cloud Clark Garner. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Church of Jesus Christ in Paragould. She became “Nanny” to many young people through her family and church life.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Lowell Ussery of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Corinthia Ussery; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Keith Clark all of Paragould; five grandchildren, Katie and Chris Parrish of Paragould, Matthew and Jessica Clark of Jonesboro, Ryan Hoepfl, Jace Crocker and Dara Ussery all of Paragould; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Gene Clark and Linda Clark, Jerry and Reba Clark all of Paragould, Mike and Kathy Clark of Jonesboro; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Jerry McMillon, Kim Cox, and Tammy Clark, all of Paragould; several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins with three special cousins, Reba Watson, Linda Routon and Barbara Fultz, , two aunts, Jewell Goode and Wanda Dollins all of Paragould.

Graveside services will be Monday, November 7th, at 3:00 p.m. at the New Friendship Cemetery with Derrick Followell officiating. Visitation will be Monday 1:30 until 2:30 at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould, prior to services. The funeral procession will leave at 2:30 p.m.

Melvin Earl Cothren

 

Melvin Earl Cothren, 77, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born June 8, 1934 in Paragould, the son of the late George and Irene Harris Cothren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Willodean Lenderman Cothren, daughter, Gloria Cothren and brother, Joe Cothren.
Melvin was retired from the Paragould Fire Department after 22 years, was a Wal-Mart door greeter for seven years and a member of Walnut Corner General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters: Diane Ellis of Jonesboro, Gala Stone, Laura Stone; son and daughter-in-law: Jim and Janet Kidd; brother and sister-in-law: Frank and Eunice Cothren all of Paragould; grandchildren: Jerry Pentecost, Larissa Morgan, Shannon Kidd, Michael Bellah, Jennifer Maple, Brent Stone, Brodie Stone, Jason Greer, Clint Johnson and eleven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8th, 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at Heath Funeral Home prior to graveside services at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mathel Mozelle Brummett
 



Mathel Mozelle Brummett, 93, of Paragould, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011, at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

She was born August 11, 1918 in Greene County, the daughter of the late Clifford and Pearl Tennison.

Her husband, Robert Brummett; daughter, Darlene Boyd; grandson, Greg Boyd; brothers, Guy, Leon, and Alvin Tennison; and sister Illene Campbell preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Darrell Levins; one son-in-law, Gwendol Boyd; five grandchildren and their spouses, Glen Levins, Darla and Darrel McCreless, Cindy and Tom Cross, Suzanne and Aaron Frahler and Brad and Karla Boyd; and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Gearldine Wall, Ruth Street, Edith Mosbey and Thelma Clubb.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 9th, 1:00 p.m. at the Finch Baptist Church with Sam Stewart and Terry Gage officiating, burial will follow in Finch Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church with Mitchell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Terry Gene Newman



Terry Newman, 50, of Paragould, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 at his home. He was born April 14, 1961 in Corning, Arkansas. He enjoyed spending time with his family, nieces, nephews, tractors and fishing.

His survivors include his wife: Anita Newman, of the home; parents: Billy Joe and Jeanette Newman of Paragould; brothers: Tommy Newman, Sr. of Leachville, Teddy Newman of Tranquility, CA., Tony Newman of Paragould; sister: Mary Dunigan of Paragould; mother-in-law: Marilyn Bowlin of Paragould; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his niece, Misti Newman, nephew, Jeremiah Newman, and father-in-law: Snow Bowlin.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated Wednesday, November 9th, 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Carter Grindstaff officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Courtney Cherese Coin
 


Courtney Cherese Coin, 23, of Paragould, departed this life on November 8, 2011.

Courtney was born July 28, 1988 in Paragould. She was a 2006 graduate of Greene County Tech High School and was of the Baptist faith.

Courtney was a loving, caring person. She was truly a gift from God. Courtney was blessed with so many special gifts and talents, especially art and music. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Ratha Smith and great grandparents, Junior and Freda Smith.

Courtney is survived by her mother, Robin Coin of Jonesboro; grandfather, Donald Smith of Paragould; best friend, Kristin McLaughlin of Jonesboro; stepbrother, Reid Coin of Paragould; stepsister, Erin Hollis of Paragould and her great grandparents, Paul and Helen Calkin of Jonesboro.

Private graveside funeral services will be held at Linwood Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Rachel Cummins, 87, of Brookland, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born June 18, 1924 in Craighead County the daughter of the late William Cloyd and Ola Jane Jernigan Willey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Angelo Cummins, granddaughter, Jessica Cummins, son-in-law, Noel Breaux, daughter-in-law, Linda Cummins, brothers, Warren and Simon Willey, sister, Alma Cornelison, half sister, Laura Robertson. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church. She loved taking care of her family.

She is survived by her daughters: Karon Martin of McRea, AR, Gail Breaux of Brookland; sons: Larry Gene Cummins of Fennville, MI, Kreg Cummins of Conway; sister: Emma Felts of Grand Blanc, MI; brothers: D. W. Willey of Paragould, James Edward Willey of Brookland; grandchildren: Todd Cummins, Robin Martin, James Martin, Ashleigh Douglas, and Lilee Cummins; three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Fay Locke, 54, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at her residence.

Mrs. Locke was born July 28, 1957, in Paragould, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Kingdom Hall.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Locke and one brother, James Taylor, both of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Locke, Sr.; her parents, Huey and Geraldine Taylor; and a sister, Earline Rogers.

There will be a visitation Saturday, November 12th, 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. A private service will be held at a later date.

Dickie Dewayne Miller



Dickie Dewayne Miller, 58 of Paragould passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at his home after a long illness. Born in Paragould, he was the son of Andrew and Eva Pickens Miller and had been a long time area resident. He enjoyed hunting and playing pool and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by a son, Colton Andrew Joseph Miller of Paragould; his mother: Eva Miller of Paragould; two brothers, David Keith Miller of Paragould and Anthony Miller of Jonesboro; two sisters, Carolyn Foss of Paragould and Kaye Marshall of Pine Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Miller; and a brother Dale Miller.

Funeral services will be Friday November 11th, 6:00 p.m. at the Lake Street Baptist Church in Paragould with the Rev. Jody Faulkner officiating with private disposition to follow under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.

Ruth Evelyn Thomen Boyd



Ruth Evelyn began her celebration in heaven on November 10, 2011. Ruth was born August 12, 1945 in Delaplaine, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Lois (Rice) Thomen, an infant sister, Alice Fay Thomen, grandparents William and Pearl (Davis) Thomen and Thomas and Emma (Forehand) Rice, all of Delaplaine.
Ruth graduated from Crowley’s Ridge Junior College in Paragould, AR. and later from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX. as a registered nurse. She was a housewife and homemaker.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Milton Conrad Boyd, three children, Krista (Fly) and Raymond Wysong of Stephenville, TX., Robin (Fly) and Bert Thomas of Waukesha, WI., and William and Diana Fly of Hutto, TX., and her treasured grandchildren, Savanna, Rayleigh, Dustin, Aaron, Kade, and Kori.

Celebrations of her beautiful life will be held Sunday, November 13th, 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Waxahachie Bible Church and Saturday, November 19th, at Delaplaine Baptist Church, with a final memorial at Brownie Cemetery in Peach Orchard, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, it was Ruth’s desire that donations be made to the “Missions Fund” or “Women’s Ministry Fund” at Waxahachie Bible Church or your local chapter of American Cancer Society.

Ova Laverna Farmer



Ova Laverna Farmer, 94, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice Home.

She was born November 16, 1916 in Marmaduke to the late Harvey and Pearl Clary. She lived in the Childress Community for most of her life moving to Monette in 2001. Mrs. Farmer was a faithful member of the Monette Assembly of God. She enjoyed sitting on her porch visiting with neighbors. Her church, family and friends were very important to her.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Orval A. Farmer; a sister, Elaine Root; a brother, Alvin Clary.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jerry and Kay Farmer of Bryant, Louise and Joe Younce of Flint, Michigan and Jan and Mel Whitney of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Jill Tate (Roger) of Bryant, Jonathan Farmer of Little Rock, Marsha Cross (Bob) of Linden, Michigan, Joe Younce Jr. of Flint, Kim Swisher (Gary) of Gaines, Michigan and Joan Khachouf (Faisal) of Flint; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday, November 14th, 10:00 a.m., at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Revs. James Moore and Terry Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Paragould.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 13th, 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Merritt V. Sanders
 


Merritt V. Sanders, 71, of Paragould, passed away, as a result of a car accident, Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born December 19, 1939, in Forrest City, the son of the late Mount Vernon and Ruth Adams Sanders. He was a retired business professor from Arkansas State University. Merritt loved the outdoors, hiking, jogging and fishing. Merritt served his country in the Air Force Reserves.

Merritt is survived by his wife: Marcia Lane Sanders, of the home; daughter: Sara Sanders of Los Angeles, CA; stepdaughters: Jill Sloas and her husband Michael of Paragould, Farrah Ollis and her husband Brandon of Jonesboro; sister and brother-in-law: Barbara and Jerry Gready of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Zoe and Ben Sloas and Abby and Andrew Ollis; parents-in-law: John and Mary Lane of Paragould.

Burl Wayne Vaskin

Burl Wayne Vaskin, 72, of Bartlett, TN, was born in Paragould, AR May 19, 1939. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, devoted husband and father, and a 24 year veteran in the USMC, died November 10, 2011, at his home after a long illness.

Services will be Wednesday, November 16th, 11:00 a.m.at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Henrietta Vaskin; one daughter, Dawna Nelson; four sons, Stephen Vaskin, Sonny Vaskin, David Vaskin, and Anthony Vaskin; two brothers, Raymond Carr and Bill Carr of Paragould, AR; seven grandchildren, three great-grand-children.

Mary K. Keel

 

Mary K. Keel, born July 26, 1934 to the late Raymond Marston and Irene Burns Kirkwood, passed away peacefully in her sleep, November 11, 2011, at her home in Paragould. Mary was also preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Kirkwood Scott. She retired from AmSouth Bank in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paragould.

Mary is survived by her children: Jerry L. Keel, Jr. (Sue) of Paragould; Raymond K. Keel (Debi) of Houston, TX; Robert A. Keel of Forrest, MS, and Nancy Kay Keel of the home. Joseph Damon Massey, 38, of Paragould passed away November 11, 2011 at his home. He was born October 17, 1973 in Somerset, KY to James and Roberta Massey.

He loved watching NASCAR and the speed channel. He was of Baptist faith.

He is survived by father, James Massey of Somerset, KY.; his wife, Lorri Massey of the home; a step-son, Robert Blake Lesley of Mt. View, AR.; a step-daughter, Holly Perry of Paragould; three brothers, James Massey of Lesley, Ark., Herbert Massey of Salem, AR. and Larry Massey of KY.; two sisters, Doris Jean Massey of Lesley, AR. and Nora May of St. Louis, MO.; two grandchildren, Trinity Perry and Jasmyne Vanslyke.

His mother, Roberta Massey preceded him in death.

He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mary Kathryn Hester Travis



Mary Kathryn Hester Travis, 67, of Paragould passed away Sunday November 13, 2011 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.

Mary was born January 12, 1944 to the late JT and Mary Jewell Hester, and she has been a lifetime resident in NE Arkansas. She was a homemaker, and a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church. She had many hobbies; singing and playing the mandolin, gardening, photography, and watching NASCAR, and she had a true passion for children.

In addition to her parents JT and Mary Jewell Hester, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby G. Travis; and two brothers, Gary and Robert “Lowell” Hester.

Survivors include her brothers, Bob Hester Jonesboro, Tommy Hester of Bay; and many nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, November 16th, 10:00 a.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Harold Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening 5:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home.

Carma Love Thomas




Carma Love (Presson) Thomas, 96, of Piedmont, Missouri, formerly of Paragould, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Regional Memorial Hospital, Poplar Bluff.

Born August 3, 1915 in Camden, Tennessee, she married Fred Fritts Thomas May 18, 1935, in Kennett, and together they farmed in the Mounds Community. Mrs. Thomas was a member and baptized at the Alexander Baptist Church, Paragould, until she transferred her membership to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Piedmont, when she moved to Missouri in 1994.

Survivors include one daughter, Glenda Sue Allen of Piedmont; two grandchildren, Randy Robinson of Piedmont and Gayla Brinkley of Festus; four great grandchildren, Holly Robinson of Williamsville, Missouri, Jo Anna Wilson of Doniphan, Amy Brinkley of Cape Girardeau, and Clayton Brinkley of Festus; and two great great grandchildren, Paige and Anthony Wilson of Doniphan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thomas, in 1980; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 17th, 1:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould with Mike Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery, Rector.

Visitation will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Barron L. Gatlin




Barron L. Gatlin, born November 12, 1938 to the late Louie and Lelah Gatlin, passed away Sunday November 13, 2011 at his home in Paragould after a lengthy illness. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Barron taught school for the Corning School District retiring after 33 years. He was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and was a member of the 7th and Mueller Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Donive of the home; one sister, Mary Crum of LeCanto, Florida; one nephew, Phillip Dasso of Madison, Wisconsin; and three nieces, Alice Conwell and Kim Voss of Rock Island, Illinois and Mitzie Nicholson of Davenport, Iowa.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, November 16th, 11:30 a.m. at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday prior to services 10:00a.m.until 11:15 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 11:15 a.m.

Leroy Poore, J. R. Poore, Wesley Poore, Bryan Griffin, Rob Schorer, and Andrew Spillman will serve as pallbearers.

Ralph Winfred Kelley



Ralph Winfred Kelley, 95 of Paragould passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. He was born September 3, 1916, in Batesville, AR. to James and Eudora Kelley.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He owned Kelley’s Supermarket from 1946-1977 and after his retirement he went into real estate, Horton-Kelley Real Estate.

He was a member at First Baptist Church for 65 years, a member of the Kiwanis Club in Paragould and he liked to fish.

Preceding him in death were his parents; eight brothers and sisters; and a great-grandson, Justin Hunt.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Alta Kelley of the home; two daughters, Judy Maxwell of Cherokee Village, AR. and Kathy Galyean of Southhaven, MS.; seven grandchildren, Kelley Chipman, Grant Maxwell, Tisha Maxwell, Rachael Galyean, Noah Galyean, Seth Galyean and Joshua Galyean; ten great-grandchildren, Marcus Hunt, Camille Wynn, Kasey Maxwell, Drake Maxwell, Miranda Maxwell, Jacob Ryan, David McAlexander, Grace Galyean, Asher Galyean and Lilly Galyean; two great-great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Jackson and Isaiah Jackson.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, November 15th, 2:00 p.m. at Greene County Memorial Gardens with Bill Steeger officiating.

Frieda June McClish, 68, daughter of Albert White, of Cardwell, MO., and Edith Winn Lewis, of Cardwell, was born May 31, 1943, in Cardwell, and passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011, at Heritage Gardens of Senath, MO.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald McClish, of Heber Springs, AR., and Ricky McClish, of Arbyrd, MO.; one daughter, Tammy Masterson, of Senath; two brothers, Larry Lewis and wife, Dixie, and Carlis Remagen and wife, Ruth, all of Cardwell; three sisters, Ernestine Garner and husband, Jerry, of Paragould, AR., Delores Teasley, of Cardwell and Glenda Wycoff and husband, Kenneth, of Paragould; eight grandchildren, Ritchie, T.J., Tara, Jason McClish, Carl Coleman, Kalon, Kyle, Kieana McClish; one great-grandchild, Bryce Coleman; dear friend and companion, Cecil Dunn and beloved pet, Fluffy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great, great-great nieces and nephews, along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Lewis.

She will be missed by all who knew her. She had a zest and spirit for life, loved to cook, sew, fleamarket and do crafts. She was always the first one to help when anyone needed it.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.

Verda Enona Versie Powers Raines Futrell, 95, of Paragould, passed away Friday, November 14, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Verda was born August 19, 1916 in Beech Grove, Arkansas the daughter of the late Joseph Edward Lee and Minnie Owens Powers. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Raines, second husband, Woodrow Futrell, son, Edward William "E.W." Raines, sisters, Dorothy Ellis, Una Mae Apodaca and Velma Powers.
She was a collar attacher at Ely and Walker shirt factory and member of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ. She loved to play cards, browse through her family pictures, genealogy, and her grandkids and great grandchildren.

Verda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Johnie and Beverly Raines of Tuscon, Arizona; daughter-in-law: Lanay Raines of Bethel, Alaska; brother: John Vernon Powers; sisters: Josephine Ryan, both of Paragould; Ovillia DePriest of Bolivar, Tennessee; grandchildren: Jennifer Eason, Carrie Lambert, Dennis Raines, Michael Raines, and Pamela Raines; eleven great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and one expected, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated Thursday, November 17th, 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel, with Michael Cox and Larry McFadden officiating. Interment will follow at Epsaba Cemetery.

Dorothy Lue Huffine, 76 of Paragould passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at her residence. Dorothy was born September 9, 1935. She was retired as a Custodian for Paragould School district and was a member of the Lake Street Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Lee Huffine; parents, Terry and Captola Howard Sanders; sisters, Estelle Tucker and Essie Dowdy Speaks; brother, Pete Sanders.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Angie Huffine and Terry and Telly Huffine of Paragould. Grandchildren, Emileigh Huffine, Meghan Huffine, Justin Huffine, Britany Sweetwood and Josh Roberts; great grandchildren, Allie Huffine, Alexis Huffine, Tristen Huffine and Lane Boyd.

Ms. Mary Perkins, 74, of Corning, AR., passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR. Ms. Perkins was born in Knobel, AR., June 26, 1937. She was a homemaker and she was Pentecostal in faith.

She is survived by one son Farrell Gene Perkins of Paragould, AR.; one daughter Denise Shook of Knobel, AR.; three brothers Landis Shook of Paragould, AR., W. E. Johnson of De Soto, MO., Gaylon Shook of Lansing, MI.; one sister Georgia Kessler of Paragould, AR.; two grandchildren Misty and Nathan Perkins; two great-grandchildren Alicia and Ashley.

She was preceded in death by her parents William H. and Verneal (Kessler) Shook; brother Farrell Johnson and sister Wileen Roden.

William Hebert Henderson



William Hebert Henderson, 83, of Manila, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Manila Nursing Center.

Mr. Henderson was born January 31, 1928, in Atkins, Arkansas to Alex and Maudie Henderson. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Tammy Henderson of Blytheville, Jack and Teresa Henderson, Tony and Terry Henderson; and a daughter, Debra Adams all of Manila; 7 grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eddie Joe Henderson; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Edmund Randolph Davis



Edmund Randolph Davis, 67, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011, at his home.

He was born on November 13, 1944, in Paragould, Arkansas, and was the son of Branson “Speck” Davis and Virginia Lee (Davis) Carmen.

Edmund was a native of Piggott, Arkansas, and was of the Baptist Faith. He served his Country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968 and received an Honorable Discharge. He received a degree in Off-Set Printing, where he worked at Harry Well Printing in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He also received a degree in Modern Gun Repair in 1971. In 1994 he retired from Reynolds Medal and Cable Company in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4517, National Rifle Association, The Paralyzed Veterans of America, and National Multiple Sclerosis Association.

In January 2011, Edmund was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme Stage four Brain Cancer.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Davis of the home, daughter, Lisa Lavonna Armour Thomason and husband Brant of Duncanville, AL.; son, Edmund "Scooter" Davis and wife Brandi of Hot Springs, AR.; two granddaughters, Jourdan Marie Armour of Piggott, and Sarah Thomason of Duncanville, AL.; three grandsons, Tanner Taylor Armour of Duncanville, AL, and Hayden Fisher Davis and John Clay Davis, both of Hot Springs, AR.; mother, Virginia Lee (Davis) Carmen of Piggott, brother, Larry Davis and wife Sandra of Piggott, two sisters, Carolyn Featherston and husband James of Piggott, and Ermma Dean Campbell of Piggott, four brothers-in-law, Robert Powell and wife Lavene of Kennett, MO., Johnny Powell and wife Donna of Oklahoma City, OK., and James Powell of Malden, MO.; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Watson and husband Doc of Kennett, Linda Shepard of Kennett, Betty Halter and husband Charles of Kennett, and Carol Utnage of Kennett, and many other relatives and friends.

Ethel Gertrude Reynolds Franks was born April 12, 1928. She passed away November 15, 2011. She was a member of Marmaduke Church of Christ. Ethel loved her grandson dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Edna Reynolds.

She is survived by one son, James Daniel Stevens; one grandson Brian Stevens (Jahmi) his wife and one great grandson Peyton; two brothers and one sister A.D and (Lyndall) Reynolds of Marmaduke AR., Hollis (Gloranna) Reynolds of Metropolis, IL., Cheryl and (Owen) Hoyer of Brookport, IL., and several nieces and nephews and her caregiver Vonnie Poore.

Zelba Jackson Harris, 90, of Marmaduke, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born June 20, 1921 in Paragould, the daughter of the late Ivan and Mamie Lou Gramling Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Allie Harris, sisters, Thelpa Martin, Gathel Reed and Ocil Williams. Zelba was a homemaker who loved sewing, quilting and gardening.

Zelba is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Alvie Harris, Lindell and Cindy Harris, all of Marmaduke; daughters and sons-in-law: Louetta and Roger Charlton of Redford, Missouri, Sheila and Paul Warner, Ballwin, Missouri; sisters: Melba Wheeler of Rolla, Missouri, Glenda Jackson of Paragould; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Flossie Higgins Cooper



Flossie Higgins Cooper, 77, of Jonesboro, passed from this life at her home November 16, 2011 in Jonesboro. She was born June 2, 1934 to Ernest (Dick) and Grace Higgins in Dixie, Arkansas.
Flossie lived all of her life in Craighead and Greene Counties.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Clella Hairrell and Dorothy Overall of the Dixie community and one brother, Jack (Dempsey) Higgins of Jonesboro.

Flossie leaves behind her devoted husband of 46 years; Kenneth H. Cooper, of the home, one daughter, Penny (Jim) McDaniel and her son, Kyle Cooper, of Jonesboro. She also leaves her 3 precious grandchildren, Kayla Cooper, Jacelyn McDaniel and Katie Cooper, of Jonesboro, and brother, Walter (Mary Jane) Higgins of Jonesboro.

A loving and faithful wife, revered mother, and loyal friend, Flossie loved her Lord and cherished her family. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Dixie, where she served as church secretary for many years.

Her life will be celebrated Friday, November 18th, 1:30 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel, with Dr. Jesse Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Log Cemetery.

Hazel Marie Rooker, 96, of Pocahontas passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

She was born May 22, 1915 in O’Kean to the late Martin and Tina Morgan.

She is also preceded in death by son Eugene Smith, grandson Johnny Frame, great grandson Josh Young, granddaughter Cathy Tempton and great granddaughter Glenda Lynn.

Silas Gary Hyde, 78, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at St Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born January 15, 1933 in Greene County the son of the late Grover and Cora Gay Hyde. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gregory Wayne Hyde, brothers and sisters, Ruby Conyers, Ellis Hyde and Chalmer Hyde. Gary was a parts salesman and member of Fairview Baptist Church. He served his country in the army during the Korean Conflict. He loved fishing and deer hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred J. Hyde of the home, sons and daughter-in-law Jeff and JoAnna Hyde, Gary Lee Hyde and grandson Casey Hyde.

Allen Wayne Russell, 56, of Paragould passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011. He was born August 17, 1955 in Paragould, to Alonzo and Anna Russell.

Allen was a member of the Church of Living Waters. He loved working, drinking coffee, loved eating anything sweet and enjoyed camping.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Elizabeth Z. Crawford, 64, of Kennett, daughter of the late Zelmer and Corene George Patterson, was born November 24, 1946, in Paragould, Arkansas, and departed this life Saturday, November 19, 2011, at National HealthCare in Kennett, Missouri.
Elizabeth married Larry P. Crawford January 8, 1962, in Kennett.

Survivors of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother are her husband, Larry P. Crawford, of Kennett; two sons, Thomas L. Crawford, of Kennett, and Larry E. Crawford and wife, LaTanya, of Clarksville, AR.; one daughter, Lisa Crawford Castle and husband, Curtis of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Erik P. Castle, of Dallas, Jessica Abernathy and husband, Aaron, of Ft. Smith, AR., Alisha Crawford, of Coffeyville, KS., and Sydney Crawford, of Campbell, MO.; two sisters, Anna Baird and husband, Don, of St. Louis, and Lynda Baird and husband, Ralph, of Paragould, many other relatives and friends.

Private services are being planned by the family.

Robert James Sewell



Robert James Sewell, 82, of the Lake Frierson Community, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born February 26, 1929 in Arcadia, Louisiana the son of the late Ora J. and Altha Mae Daniels Sewell. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Robbie Sewell and Scott Brackin. He was retired manufacturing sales. He was a navy veteran and of the methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife: Obelia A. Sewell of the home; son: Tim Brackin of Jonesboro; daughters and sons-in-law: Karen and Harlen Wentz, Jan and Louis Hartley all of Florida; Terry Kelley of Jonesboro; Tracy and Keith Mosbey of Paragould; Toni and Scott Harris of Germantown, TN; seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

No visitation is planned. Family and friends will meet for graveside services Wednesday, November 23rd, 11:00 a.m. at Jonesboro Memorial Park with Reverend Raymond Atwood officiating.

S. Marquita Hobbs



S. Marquita Hobbs, 61 of Jackson Twp., Canton, Ohio, passed away November 20, 2011 at her home with family by her side. She was born June 25, 1950 in Monette, the daughter of the late Boyd and Mildred (Milligan) Cobbs. She grew up in the Mounds Community, was a graduate of Greene County Tech and Arkansas State University.

Marquita was a school teacher for 32 years with the Coventry School District in Akron.

She was a member of St. Jacob Lutheran Church; volunteering as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and was involved with the Vacation Bible School as well. Golfing was her passion and she belonged to two card clubs.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jim Hobbs of Canton, two sons, Joshua Hobbs (Anne Staler) of New York, and Jeffrey Hobbs of Canton, sister, Catherine Wright of Paragould, AR, sister, Barbara Stevens (CL) of Paragould, AR; brother, Charles Cobbs (Barbara) of Huntsville, AL; brother David Cobbs (Cathy) of Paragould, AR; sister, Rhonda Cobbs of Dallas, TX, many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Tri-County Hematology and Oncology, Aultman Palliative Care Unit, and Aultman Hospice.

A memorial service will be held December 3rd, 2:00 p.m. at St. Jacob Lutheran Church, 8697 Mudbrook St. NW , Massillon, Ohio with Pastor Lynn Williamson officiating.

Ronald Lee Vallentine

 

Ronald Lee Valentine, 72, of Paragould, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born March 22, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late Helen Spindler Schychulski and Robert Vallentine. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife last month, Jeanetta Joyce Vallentine, brother Robert Vallentine and his grandparents. He was a member of JC's of Marmaduke, a mason, and was the owner and operator of Paragould Industrial Bearing.

He is survived by his son: Robert Vallentine of Paragould; sister: Billie Jean French of Fenton, Missouri; half-brother and sister-in-law: Gary and Robin Scychulski of Columbus, Georgia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Mary Ann and Dewayne Hamelback of St. Charles, Missouri.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 23rd, 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel. His funeral will follow visitation at the chapel, at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Wayne Baldwin and Reverend Kim Bridges officiating. Private burial will follow.

Barbara Jean King



Barbara Jean Williams McCrory King, 81, Paragould, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born August 27, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri. Barbara was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church and retired as a sales person from Roach's Paint.

Barbara is survived by her daughters: Linda Mathis Murray and her husband Charles, Joan Pattee; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law: Juli and Patrick Baine, Jeani and Bud Wallace, Corlisa Pattee, Sara Pattee; grandsons and granddaughter-in-law: Kerry and Amber Murray, Jonathan Pattee, Patrick Pattee, all of Paragould; great grandchildren: Tyler Ogles, Johnna Rae Baine, Isabel Wallace, Sophia Wallace, Alex Morgan, Celesta Morgan, Josh Murray, Jake Murray, Chandler Inskeep, and Alex Murray; step children: Cathi Warren, Steve King, Mark King, David King, Lewis King, and several step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Cecil McCluney Williams Laughlin and Bill, father, D.W. Williams, first husband, Pete McCrory, second husband, Bud King, son-in-law, Johnnie Wayne Mathis.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 5:00 until 7:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated Sunday, November 27th, 2:00 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel, with Brother Gerald James and Brother Curtis Hitt officiating. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Betty Gean Beck Ward



Betty Gean Beck Ward, 71, of Mansfield, Louisiana, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother departed this life on November 25, 2011. She was born in Paragould, AR. January 13, 1940. Preceding her in death are her parents, Jack and Addie Vernon Mabry, sisters Daisy Hamilton and Francis Mangrum.

She is survived by her husband, John Taylor Ward and her children, Regina and husband Mike Atkins of Blanchard, LA, Ronnie and wife Melissa Ward of Mansfield, LA, Connie Ward of Longview, TX, Johnna and husband Steve Cosentino of Tyler, TX, twelve grandchildren, John Ward Strong and wife April, James Strong, Philip Atkins, Derrick Atkins, Colton Ward, Connor Ward, Addison Ward, Megan McDonald, D.J. Smelley, Taylor Smelley, Madeline Cosentino, Mathew Cosentino, four great-grandchildren, Ariana, Zoey, Caden, and Dayton Campise, three brothers Floyd, Jerry, and Billy Beck.

She was a long time member of the Church of Christ and co-owner of the Lady Leisure Laundry in Mansfield, LA.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the workers of Superior Hospice and Willis Knighton Cancer Center.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 28th, 10:00 a.m. at the Mansfield Church of Christ.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 5:00 until 8:00 at Rose-Neath's Mansfield Chapel. Interment will be in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Melba Jackson Wheeler

 


Melba Jackson Wheeler, 90 of Rolla, MO., formerly of Cahokia, IL., was born June 20, 1921 in Paragould, AR., she passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, MO.
Melba was a homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee C. Wheeler, children, Glen (Linda) Wheeler and Melva Wells, grandchild, Trinetta Beasley; parents, Ivan and Mammie Lou Jackson, sisters, Zelba Harris, Thelpa Martin, Gathel Reed, and Ocil Williams.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Brian (Roxanne) Wheeler, Kim (Pat) Hunter, Stacey (Brad) Kleeman, Christie (Michael) Carter, Amanda (Dan) Novak, and Justin Wells; many great grandchildren; sister, Glenda Jackson; and son-in-law, Leslie Wells.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30th, 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Jim Robinson, Sr. officiating.

Interment will follow services at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL

John Murray Therrell

 

John Murray Therrell, 64, of Paragould, passed away Monday, November 28, 2011, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, Jonesboro.

Mr. Therrell was born May 20, 1947, in Jackson, Mississippi, and was an industrial mechanical systems instructor at Arkansas Northeastern College in Blytheville. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and of the Delta Symphony Orchestra where he was a violinist. He attended Finch Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Ruth Therrell of Paragould; his mother, Vivian Therrell of Pensacola, Florida; and two brothers, Benjamin Ervin Therrell of Spokane, Washington and Paul Kevin Therrell of Pensacola, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Ervin Therrell.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 1st, 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Terry Gage officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

A committal service will be Thursday afternoon, at 2:30 p.m. in Bethesda Cemetery, Senatobia, Mississippi. Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials to Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House or to Finch Baptist Church would be appreciated.

Glenn Dearil Green, Sr., 71, of Paragould passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born July 3, 1940, in Manila, AR., to the late Joseph Benton and Edith Marie Green.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Green; two sons, Glenn Dearil Green, Jr. and Joe Green both of Springfield, MO.; one daughter, Teresa Green of Denver, CO.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

There will be a memorial service Friday evening, December 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Church at Paragould with Bill Bass officiating.

James Allen Griggs

 


James Allen Griggs, 55, of Bono, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born October 2, 1956 in Flint, Michigan. He was a graduate of Greene County Tech High School. James proudly served his country for over 20 years and was retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant, having served three years as a drill instructor at Paris Island, NC. His military awards include good conduct medal with 5 stars, letter of appreciation, meritorious mast, navy achievement medal with 3 stars, meritorious unit commendation with star, national defense service, certificate of commendation, armed forces service medal, sea service deployment ribbon. He was a Journeyman electrician with Griggs Electric. He was a member of Strawfloor Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Griggs, step-father, J. T. Lands, grandparents, Ray and Beryl Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Ester and Griggs.

He is survived by his wife: Debbie Griggs of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Nikki and PFC Alan Henson of Jacksonville, NC; April Sheffield of Pocahontas; Shaunda and Randy Neely of Memphis, TN; Elizabeth Crow of Bono; son and daughter-in-law: Matthew and Robin Russell of Jonesboro; mother: Sue Lands of Paragould; brothers and sister-in-law: Larry and Vicki Griggs of Paragould; Roger Griggs of Elizabeth City, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law: Carolyn and Rick Valentine, Teresa and Scotty Rogers all of Paragould; grandchildren: Logan Parker Griggs, Spencer Allen Henson, Belladonna Skye Henson, Deborah Allison Sheffield, Jordan Leeann Cates, Gregory Hunter DeLoach, Austin Levi DeLoach, Brianna Nicole Russell, Dalton Dakota Russell, Jayden Lee Russell, Rena Nicole Knowles, William Jacob Knowles, Jonathon Neely, Jessica Neely and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of his life will be Friday, December 2nd, 11:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverends Wilburn Griggs and Don Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Knot Cemetery.
He will have complete funeral military honors. The United States Marine Corps will serve as pallbearers.

Bertha Alice (Phillips) Davis Walker



Bertha Alice (Phillips) Davis Walker, of Poplar Bluff, MO., formerly of Paragould, AR. and Cardwell, MO., passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Walker was born July 27, 1921 in Cherry Valley, AR. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cardwell, MO., where she had been active most of her life, and after moving to Poplar Bluff in 2003 had most recently been attending Fellowship General Baptist. Mrs. Walker enjoyed spending time with her family, being a hospital volunteer, quilting, crocheting, cooking and reading her Bible daily.

In 1939, she married Gerald Davis who preceded her in death in 1971. In 1976, she married John Dickinson who preceded her in death in 1982. Mrs. Dickinson later married Raymond Walker who also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Brent Davis and wife Janet of Poplar Bluff; daughter-in-law, Barbara Droke of Senath, MO.; grandchildren, Jim Davis and wife Sheila of Eldon, MO., Tim Davis and wife Amita of Santa Monica, CA., Leanne Duncan and husband Aaron of Poplar Bluff and Ami Stone and husband Eric of Salado, TX.; and great-grandchildren, Matt Davis and Tyler Davis of Eldon, MO., Piper and Henry Duncan of Poplar Bluff, Josie and Owen Stone of Salado, TX. and Taj Davis of Santa Monica, CA.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Phillip Davis, parents, Nathan and Lona (Faust) Phillips, and four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be Friday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A visitation will also be Saturday, December 3rd, 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cardwell, MO. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Church with Bro. Clyde Cook officiating. Burial will be at Cardwell Cemetery.
