Jerry Lee Bateman

 

Jerry Lee Bateman, 51, of Evening Shade, formerly of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his home. Born March 29, 1959, in Paragould, he was a former factory worker.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Bateman of the home; one son, Jerry Bateman of Paragould; two daughters, Shelly Chadwick of Paragould and Jennifer Cole of Evening Shade; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Dewayne Bateman and George Bateman; three sisters, Rebecca Lewis and Thelma Blancett, all of Paragould, and Cindy Mullins of Jonesboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alberta Bateman.

Graveside services will be Friday, November 5th, 2:00 p.m. at New Friendship Cemetery with Floyd Ryles officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Gordon Ellington

 

Gordon Gustus Ellington, 83, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Paragould. He was born March 11, 1927 in Greene County, the son of the late Chester A. and Susan Aedliah Woolverton Ellington. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Alton and E.D. "Cotton" Ellington. Gordon was retired from Paragould City, Light, Water and Cable, a member of East Side Baptist Church, led singing at Clark's Chapel and at East Side Baptist Church, led singing in revivals all over Greene County Baptist Association, and was a former Kiwanian. Gordon served his country in the Army during the World War II.

Survivors include his wife: Verbadean Dial Ellington of the home: daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and Barry Reddick, Karen and David Greene, all of Paragould; sons and daughters-in-law: Curt Ellington of Blytheville, Dennis and Lisa Ellington of Paragould, Danny and Melinda Ellington of Mountain Home; sister: Alma Jean Perry of St Louis, Missouri; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel, Friday November 5th, 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Scudder officiating. Interment will follow at Clark's Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his grandsons: Bryan Reddick, Bret Ellington, Mike Miller, Brent Ezell, Corey Balentine, Nate Herget and Shain Finley with nephews Scott, Chris and Allen Ellington being honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be sent to Clark's Chapel Cemetery Fund or East Side Baptist Church.

Donald Howard Towery
 


Donald Howard Towery, 85, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at St Bernard’s Medical Center. He was born December 15, 1924 in Risco, Missouri.

After his retirement from Anheuser-Busch of St. Louis, Howard enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife Nathalie Towery and family.
Family and friends will meet for a graveside service, Friday, November 5th, 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery with Father Mike Sinkler officiating.
Pallbearers are Rick Lane, Tommy Lane, Jerry Hoepfl, Roger Davis, Phillip Pierceall, and Frank Gatlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greene County Animal Farm, 1261 Greene 739 Road, Paragould, Arkansas, 72450.

Kenneth Jacob Merila

 

Kenneth Jacob Merila, 72, of Paragould, passed away at his home, Wednesday, November 3, 2010, with his family by his side. He was born June 13, 1938 in Washburn, Wisconsin.

Mr. Merila owned and operated Washburn Sanitary Service and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Kluge and Wilbur Merila; his brother, Robert Merila; nephew, Todd Merila; and step grandchild, Zachery Stone.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Merila; one son Lee (Alicia) Merila; daughters, Tracey (Daniel) Wade and Amy (Jeremy) Newton; stepdaughters, Linda Stone and Tami (Lindell) Lucy; and stepson, Mike (Delise) Stone. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald (Judy) Merila of Poplar, Wisconsin; sisters, Shirley (Ronald) Flones of Washburn, Wisconsin, and Edith Merila of Madison, Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, November 6th, 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, at Lafe, with Curt Dwyer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Charles Donald Potter
 


Charles Donald “Dink” Potter, 81, went to meet the Lord at his home Wednesday, November 3, 2010.

He was born March 2, 1929 at Walcott to the late Robert “Bob” and Dora Potter and lived in Jonesboro for 31 years formerly of Light. He was a retired farmer and a mechanic at Case International and was a member of Apple Hill Church of Christ. He enjoyed camping, fishing and anything outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Freeda Potter; one daughter, Malinda (David) Oswald of Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Krystal (Chris) Scott of Cash, one grandson, Christopher Oswald of Jonesboro; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Brandie and Mandy Oswald; four brothers, Paul Potter, R.L. Potter, Henry Potter and Tom Potter; three sisters, Lois Holt, Joyce Carter and Tennie Oakes.

Graveside services to celebrate his life will be held Friday, November 5th, 10:00 a.m. at Herndon Cemetery with James King officiating and Christopher Oswald leading the singing.
Burial will follow under the direction of the Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 4th, 6:00 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Don Oswald, John Dulaney, James Potter, Dewey Potter, Harvey Potter, John Potter and Tommy Dulaney.

Gladys Jane Ball
 


Gladys Jane Ball, 94 of Marmaduke, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Rector Nursing and Rehab in Rector, Arkansas. Mrs. Ball was born on November 22, 1915 in Cash, Arkansas. She was retired owner and operator of Savings Gas and Oil and of the Pentecostal Faith.
Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband; Coy Truman Ball, parents, John and Alice King, one son, Junior Coy Ball, five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law; Gerald and Carolyn Ball of Lafe, Arkansas, one brother; Stacie King of Marmaduke, Arkansas, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 9th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Rick Ethridge officiating, burial will follow in New Liberty Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Drew Kennemore
 


Drew Franklin Howerton Kennemore, 25, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010, at his home in Paragould after a long struggle with cerebral palsy. Born January 29, 1985, he is survived by his parents, Frank and Barbara Kennemore, his sister, Cecily Kennemore, all of Paragould and a large extended family.
Drew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Curtis and Lula Howerton and Darrell and Hazel Kennemore.

Visitation will be Monday, November 8th, 1:15 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Dennis Scudder will conduct a graveside service for Drew at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Union Grove Cemetery.

Irene Cook
 

Irene Cook, 84, of Rector passed away Friday, November 5, 2010, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born November 23, 1925, to the late Willie and Ozolia (Oliver) Geausaway in Clay County.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Merrill Cook; a daughter, Marlene Cook, and a son, Larry Cook.

Graveside services will be held Monday, November 8th, 2:30 p.m. at Woodland Heights Cemetery with David Floyd officiating.

Henry Wilbern Baugh
 


Henry Wilbern Baugh, 88, of Jonesboro passed away at St. Bernard’s Medical Center on Friday, November 5, 2010. He was born in Lorado May 22, 1922, to Henry Herbert and Bertha Mae Adams Baugh. He was a retired electrician with the Southwestern Power Administration. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Mason Blue Lodge No. 129 of Jonesboro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanette Parks Baugh; one daughter, Robin Day Clem; one stepson, Cary Fletcher; one brother, Charles Baugh; and three sisters, Moleva Burchett, Marie Hearne and Irene Nickels.

He is survived by his sons, Mike Baugh of Champlain, Ill., and David Baugh of Jonesboro; his daughter, Bobbie Baugh Gann of Jonesboro; a stepdaughter, Diane Gibbs of Jonesboro; a brother, Alva Leon Baugh of Little Rock; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Langford-Bookout Funeral Home, Jonesboro, Wednesday, November 10th, 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Alan Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 5:00 until 7:00 in the chapel of Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.
Those honored as pallbearers will be Gary Gibbs, Shannon East, Josh Wiiest, William Gann, Nick Gann and Woody Haynes.

James Holifield

 

James "Jerry" Holifield, 81, of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett, Missouri.

He was born September 29, 1929, at Piggott, Arkansas, and was the son of the late James Lloyd Holifield and Ora Bell Busby Niemeyer.

He is survived by his son, Todd Holifield of Louisville, Kentucky, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 10th, 11:00 a.m. at Hoggard & Sons Chapel with John Sandine officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas.

Leslie Wayne Adams

 

Leslie Wayne Adams, 95, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born May 25, 1915, in Lorado, Mr. Adams was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired machinist. He was a member of the First Church of God.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Welch of Paragould; one brother, J.S. Bradley; and one sister, Clara Newberry, both of Jonesboro. He is also survived by three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille Adams; two daughters, Marieva Sue Adams and Linda Holifield; and two sisters, Kathryn Rhea and Elwanda Howell.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 9th, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 10th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Ruby Janice Lee, 82, of Marmaduke passed away Monday, November 8, 2010, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Ruby was born September 23, 1928, to the late Earl and Iva (Jones) Annis.

Survivors include her husband, Monroe (Jack) Lee; one son, James Evans of Bridgeton, Mo.; a stepson, Phillip Lee of California; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Harold Annis and Herbert Annis, both of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Bob Ray Faulkenberry
 


Bob Ray Faulkenberry, 60, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010.

A veteran of the Marine Corps, Mr. Faulkenberry was born January 28, 1950, in Jonesboro. He was self-employed and a member of the First Baptist Church of Paragould.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Faulkenberry of the home; four sons, Blake Faulkenberry, Rob Faulkeberry, and Troy Berry, all of Jonesboro, and Scott Berry of Paragould. He is also survived by two sisters, Patty Kelly of Jonesboro, Susan Middlecamp and her husband, Mike, of Cave Springs, Arkansas; and three grandsons, Stephen Troy Berry, Aaron Scott Berry II, and Cade Coffey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Evelyn Faulkenberry; and a brother, Doug Faulkenberry.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 12th, 10:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, Paragould, with Scott Neathery officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

William Lawrence McCarter, 67, Paragould, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at his home. He was born November 26, 1942 in Memphis, TN. He retired from Emerson Electric in July, 2000 after 42 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Christine McCarter of Eads, TN.

He is survived by his wife: Joan (Waters) McCarter, of the home; brother: John McCarter and his wife, Patricia; niece: Julie Green; nephew: Tanner, all of Eads, TN.

Clyda Walden Mosley, 75, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.

Born February 2, 1935, in Knobel, Arkansas, Mrs. Mosley was a retired bookkeeper, and a member of Southside Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Frances Walden.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Mosley of Paragould; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kim Mosley of Hazelwood, Missouri, Philip and Joanna Mosley of Grand Prairie, Texas; and one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Clark Kirby of O’Fallon, Missouri. She is also survived by one brother, Dan Walden; one sister, Karen Mosley; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 15th, 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Charles Stoddard officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery.

Denise Ladd Bounds
 


Denise Ladd Bounds, 54, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. Born September 3, 1956 in Hayti, Missouri, she had lived in Jonesboro for 21 years moving here from Marmaduke. She was a member of the Stone Street Church of Christ and was the Computer Lab Manager for the International Studies Magnet School in Jonesboro. She was the Trading Post Manager for Camp Rockefeller in Damascus. She was Camp Mom, lovingly referred to as “Momma D” to over 4000 Boy Scouts through the years.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Allan Bounds; her son, Cody Bounds, both of the home; her parents, Iris & Gene Ladd of Jonesboro; and her brothers, Fred Ladd of Conway; and Phillip Ladd of Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 13th, 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dick Blackford officiating. Burial will follow at Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke.

Active pallbearers will be Derek Ladd, Taylor Ladd, Daniel Ladd, Arthur Jackson, Dennis Elkins, Terry Sharp, T.J. Jones and Kim McDaniel.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Boy Scouts and Staff who attended Camp; J & T Dive Shop Staff; and the Faculty and Staff of International Studies Magnet School.

Rita Garner Mobley, 60 of Paragould passed away Friday November 12, 2010 at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Born June 17, 1950, Rita was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and a loan officer in the banking industry for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Preston and Mayo Sylvia Grooms Garner.
Survivors include her husband, Randall Mobley of the home; son, Blake Mobley of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Phyllis Garner of Malvern, AR.

Mary Louise Cooper

 

Mary Louise Cooper, 88 of Paragould passed away Sunday November 14, 2010 at Belle Meade Nursing and Rehab. Mrs. Cooper was born June 21, 1922, she was retired from Ed White, Jr. Shoe Factory and a member of 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas “Big John”Cooper; parents, Walter Wesley and Kathleen Gardner Penny; sisters, Iris Dorsett and Margaret Oswald; grandson Richard David Morgan.
Survivors include son, Thomas Harlan Cooper of Paragould; daughters and son-in-law, Ramona Becker , Sharon and James Dunkin, Mary Lou Ragsdell (who was raised as a daughter) all of Paragould; brother, Walter “Laddie: Penny of Michigan; grandchildren, Glen Raymond Morgan, Debbie Jones, Keith Morgan, Greg and Ann Morgan; great grandchildren, Stephanie and Jeremiah Jones, James Morgan, Joey and Amy Morgan, Blake and Hannah Morgan, Gretchen Ethridge, Grant and Gracie Ragsdell; great great grandchildren, Clayton, Paige, Hunter and Jalynn Morgan, Tiffany Freytag and Lukas Jones and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 17th, 2:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Larry McFadden and Michael Cox officiating.

Wava Imajean McDaniel

 

Wava Imajean McDaniel, 82 of Jonesboro, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010. Born May 25, 1928 in Paragould, she had lived in Jonesboro her entire life and was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ. Some of her favorite activities were crafts as well as knitting, crocheting, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold McDaniel, her parents James and Irene McDaniel, a daughter in law, Linda McDaniel and one brother, Everett McDaniel. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law; Mickey McDaniel, and Kim and Rhonda McDaniel of Jonesboro, as well as two grandchildren; Kimberly Lynn Sanders of Little Rock and Roger Kale McDaniel of Jonesboro.

Funeral Services will be Monday, November 15th, 1:00 p.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jimmy Young and Allen Ashlock officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will include Sonny Thompson, Rob Shelton, Coy London, Rick Metcalf, Pat Mitchener, and Earl Gunn.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nettleton and Valley View Churches of Christ Elders and Deacons.

Deanna Jane Warner, 49, of Paragould passed away November 14, 2010. She was born August 29, 1961, in Osceola, AR., to Willie and Margie Wilson. Deanna was of Baptist Faith she loved camping, fishing and spending time with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dennis Warner and one daughter -in-law, Candie Warner.

Survivors include husband Gary Warner; one son, Gary (Michelle) Warner of Paragould; four brothers, Sonny Rollins of Osceola, AR., Melvin Rollins of Benton, AR., Rickey Wilson and Bobby Wilson both of Marmaduke, AR.; three sisters, Sallie Ann Clayton of Marmaduke, AR., Mary Reddick and Lorine Graves both of Paragould, AR.; four grandchildren, Logan Warner, Kilegh Warner, Garrett Warner and Michael Steele.

Pallbearers are Brett Quinn, Micheal Barrow, Tim Bredrenridge, Billy Warner, Keith Wigginton and Lee Abbott

Graveside services will be Friday November 19th, 2:00 p.m. at Cardwell Cemetery with Dennis Strope officiating.

Mrs. Lois Hightower
 

Mrs. Lois Durham Hightower, 76, of Bradford passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at Batesville. She was born December 9, 1933 at Union Hill, the daughter of Roy and Cora (Davis) Durham.
Mrs. Hightower was a dietician at Harris Hospital several years, and a homemaker. She was a member of the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hightower was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club of Union Hill and Thida, and on the Board of Directors of Brown’s Cemetery. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, cattle, and going to Church.
Mrs. Hightower was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Ray Durham; one sister, Lillian Winfrey; and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, James L. “Jim” Hightower; two sons, Randy Hightower and wife Kathy of Union Hill and Mark Hightower and wife Lana of Union Hill; one brother Lawrence “Bub” Durham of Gary, Indiana; one sister, Bonnie Barnwell of Little Rock, Arkansas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 18th, 2:00 p.m. at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be Brown’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 9:00.

Mary E. Kleimann, 35, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday November 16, 2010 in Lake City.

Born June 16, 1975 in Salem, Mary lived in Lake City before moving to Paragould 17 years ago. She recently worked for Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould and was a Christian.

Survivors include her son, Tyler O’Neal of Paragould; her mother and step father, Edith and Donnie Spencer of Pocahontas; Her father and step mother, Larry and Joyce Kleimann of North Little Rock; 3 sisters, Tracy Ditzler of Emmet, Arkansas, and Sherry Johann and Karen Fann, both of Paragould; and 1 brother, Gene Kleimann of North Little Rock.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19th, at 2:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Monk; son, Jimmie Bishop and grandson Mark Monk and 9 brothers and sisters.

Ms. Jacqueline Dennis, 47, of Paragould passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital.

Ms. Dennis was born April 23, 1963, in Cooke County, Texas, to Price and Elizabeth Dennis. She was of the Baptist faith and of Cherokee and Seminole descent. Ms. Dennis was formerly of Florida and enjoyed her grandchildren, crossword puzzles and reading.

Survivors include her mother; two sons, John Dennis and Jahien Lesnefsky; and four daughters, Rose Dennis, Laura Dennis, Kelly Dennis and Carmela Lesnefsky, all of Florida; four sisters, Rose Ward, Tina Chester, Clara Dennis and Patricia Waldron, all of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Ira Powledge and Hubert Powledge Jr.; one sister, Debra Freeman; and one grandson, Jose Medina.

Katherine Mae (Stone) Cook, born July 18, 1935 in Marked Tree, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on November 17, 2010 at Greene Acres Nursing Home at the age of 75.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Cook, three brothers and four sisters, five grandchildren, Tina Cook, Donnie Cook, Wesley Cook, Ashley Cline and Infant Farmer and two great grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include nine sons: Floyd Wayne Cook of Normal, Illinois; Robert Cook of Neoga, Illinois; Jimmy Cook of Charleston, Missouri; Jason Cook of Bay and Howard Cook, Ricky Cook, Lloyd Cook, George Cook and Claude Cook, all of Paragould, one daughter, Tammy Farmer of Marmaduke, 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Dorothy Christine Ellington, 84 of Brookland, formerly of Marmaduke passed away November 18, 2010 at the Belle Meade Nursing Home in Paragould. She was born November 1, 1926 to the late Zade and Flora (Jernigan) McCoy in the Blue Cane area.

Preceding her in death was her parents, her husband: Joseph Ellington and a son: James Ellington.

Surviving Dorothy is a son and his wife: David Lee and Norma Ellington of Davison, Michigan, three daughters and spouses: Carol and Richard Story of Brookland, Laura (Jeannie) and Burt Moore of Michigan and Lynn Rodriguez of Flint, Michigan, two sisters: Kittie Elmore of Paragould and Bonnie Wright of Lafe with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tommie Born



Tommie Born, 93, of Paragould, passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at Belle Meade Nursing Center. Born July 5, 1917, she had lived in Paragould her entire life and was a member of the Needham Assembly of God Church. Tommie retired from Wal-Mart and she and her husband Carl ran Granny’s Shack and Vegetable Garden in Goobertown for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Carl who passed away October 15, 2010.

Survivors include one daughter, Lavonda Tollison of Jonesboro; two sisters, Edna Schafner of Belle, Missouri and Florene Penny of LaPorte, Indiana; two grandchildren, Greg Schug of Benton, Arkansas and Tanya Blevins of Paragould; three great grandchildren, Karen Dowdy, Karla Qualls and Whitney Schug; three step great grandchildren, Chris Cavenor, Amy Blevins and Colton Blevins.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 22nd, 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Matt Smith and Larry Harrison officiating and Wayne Clements serving as Eulogist.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja Hosman of the home; one son, Ray Allyn Hosman of Morristown, Tennessee; one step son, James Dicus of Republic, Missouri; one daughter, Regina Ann Coffell of Killeen, Texas; one sister, Bonnie Sue Yopp of Gainesville, Florida, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Fannie Hosman; his first wife, Betty Aline Ingram Hosman; his second wife, Elaine Louise Bogner Hosman; one brother, Dewight Hosman, and two half brothers, Leslie and Alvie Hosman.

Mildred Virginia Scheer



Mildred Virginia Scheer, 94, Paragould, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was born August 16, 1916 in Garner, Arkansas to the late Tolbert and Nettie McBee. Mildred was married to Louis Scheer, who preceded her in death in 2001 after 62 years of marriage. Their lives were dedicated to developing and maintaining a highly successful family farm operation and providing for their family. She was a devoted wife and homemaker and together she and her husband raised four living sons who survive her. She will be remembered as a kind, caring, and generous person and a fantastic cook. She was a devout member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Lafe, Arkansas.

Mildred and Louis were able to enjoy their retirement years as they traveled throughout the United States (including Alaska) and Western Europe (including unforgettable tours of Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland). They especially enjoyed their tour and stay in the villages of the beautiful Bavarian Alps. None of the thrill of their travels, however, matched their returns home to the love and affection of their children, grandchildren and dear friends.

Survivors include; her four sons; Larry (Jayne) Scheer of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Lyndel (Virginia) Scheer of Lafe, Arkansas, Cloyce (Claudia) Scheer of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Jerry (Patty) Scheer of Paragould, one brother Jerry (Arlene) McBee of Point Blank, Texas, sisters-in-law; MaryLou McBee and Virginia McBee, eight grandchildren; Britt (Tammie) Scheer of Hot Springs, Blake (Alice) Scheer of Little Rock, Arkansas, Laurie (George) Todt of Malibu, California, Angie (Johnny) Hughes of Rogers, Arkansas, Gail (Chris) Murray of Lafe, Chad (Stacey) Scheer of Olympia, Washington, Tessa (Greg) Brasher of Paragould, Jarrod Scheer of Lafe, eighteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister; Vera Mae McBee, brothers, Dan McBee, Ray McBee and Tony McBee, sister-in-law; Elsie McBee and daughter-in-law Dianne Scheer.

Jean Kingston, 82 of Paragould passed away November 20, 2010 at Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was born August 30, 1928 at Imboden to Cleo and Ethel King. She was a member of Prospect Baptist Church.

Gertha Inez Hamilton, age 80, of Manila, wife of the late Jack Hamilton, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Cache, Arkansas she was the daughter of the late Orville and Lorene Baxley Bryan and was a 1949 graduate of Leachville High School. In 1969 she and her family moved to Mississippi and in 1999 she returned to Manila.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Bryan.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Hamilton of Sheridan and Jimmy Hamilton of Winona, Miss.; one daughter, Betty McDaniel of Manila; one brother, Phillip Bryan of Newark; five sisters, Delora Mae Roberts of Jonesboro, Ann Cornelison of Hot Springs Village, Melba Barnes of Hot Springs Village, Cindy Crawford of Leachville and Betty Sharon Eish of Highland. She also leaves seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westside Baptist Church in Manila with the Revs. Andy Andros and DeWayne Cornelison officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Tom and Sylvia Vestal and seven sisters.

J. M. Crockett, 83, of Paragould passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 at Walnut Ridge Nursing Center. J. M. was retired from Emerson Electric Company. Mr. Crockett was born October 30, 1927, son of the late Clarence and Madalene Crockett, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Walker and stepson, Bobby Griggs.

William Golliver



Mr. William “Bill” Clarence Golliver, 69, of Paragould passed away Friday, November 26, 2010, in Jonesboro. Mr. Golliver was born on January 2, 1941, in Peach Orchard. He was a factory group leader, a member of the Black Rock Masonic Lodge and the Paragould First Church of God. He enjoyed driving cars, watching old movies and just being around people.

He was united in marriage to wife Lena Sue (Stormes) Golliver on February 10, 1961; she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Pamela Golliver of Paragould, Angelia and husband, Carlos, Delatorre of Rochelle, Ill.; one bother, Kenny Golliver of Knobel; one sister, Carlene Mitchell of Pacahontas; two grandchildren, Anthony and Mercadees Delatorre.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Opal (Archer) Golliver and brother, Otis Golliver.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 28th, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Funeral services will be Monday, November 29th, 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Corning Cemetery.

Marie Sanders
 


Mrs. Marie Sanders, age 56, of Paragould, Arkansas passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 at her home. Born June 30, 1954 in Parkin, Arkansas to Greek and Margaret Lizzie Tackett Sanders, she was a very family oriented person who was loving and caring and will be greatly missed. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her children, Samanitha Christian and husband Carl of Marion and John Keith Aaron of Paragould; brother, Allen Sanders of Paragould; sisters, Eunice Nash of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Mildred Frazier of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Bonnie Cooper of Gonzales, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, and Spencer Christian, Alexus, Elizabeth, and Keith Lee Aaron; nieces and nephews, Diane Nash, Bobby Nash, Tiffany Nash, Patricia Galbraith, Kevin Aaron, Shawn Aaron, Jackie Aaron, Melissa McQuarter, Jamie LaRue, Jason LaRue, Ronica LaRue, and Michael Wilders.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 2nd,10:30 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Tim Fulks officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home.

Joseph C. Anderson Jr.
 


Mr. Joseph C. Anderson, Jr., 79, of Paragould passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010, at his home. Mr. Anderson was retired from Emerson Electric and a U.S. Army Veteran.

He was born September 4, 1931 in Paragould the son of the late Joe Caswell and Esta Lee Stuart Anderson. He was also preceded by one brother, Hershel.

He is survived by his wife: Martha Anderson, of the home; son: Jay Anderson of Springdale, AR; step son: Kenny Felty of Rogers, AR; sisters and brothers-in-law: Anna Laura Liszewski of Benton, AR, Anita & Lynn Baker of Oklahoma City, OK, Linda Dollins of Jonesboro, June & Eugene Wooten of West Helena, AR; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joe and Carolyn Anderson of Batesville, AR, Jerry and Ileana Anderson of Kona, Hawaii, James and Angie Anderson of Millington, Tennessee, John "E" and Sharon Anderson of Chapin, South Carolina; four grandchildren, 23 nieces and nephews, 32 great nieces and nephews and 2 great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at Heath Colonial Chapel Wednesday, December 1st, 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Tracy Archibald officiating. Burial will follow at Wood’s Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Billy Ellis, Larry Miller, Mark Davis, Bud Fletcher, Orland Crail and Daniel Bassett.

Hugh Gordon Williams, Jr.

 

Hugh Gordon Williams, Jr., 63 of Paragould passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Columbia, MO. Hugh was born May 13, 1947, he was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church and a Preacher.


He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Gordon Williams, Sr., sisters, Sandra Joyce Williams and Rebecca Williams; brother Hugh Allen Williams.
Survivors include his wife Kay Williams of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Lola Williams of Rector, Donnie and Amanda Williams and Christopher Williams all of Paragould; brothers and sisters, Phyllis Freeman and Darlene Moore of Fair Dealing, MO, Karen Adams of Lakeland, TN, Steven Williams of Las Vegas, NV, Charles Williams of Paragould and Brenda Goodwin of Brookland, AR., grandchildren, Bryan and Jessica Putt, Bradley anf Felisha Putt, Alexis and Haley Williams; great grandchildren, Mikaylah, Avery and Brooklyn Putt.

 
Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:30 until 8:30 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 1st, 1:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Revs. Royce Boling and Royce Schanda officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
