Gilbert Richard Bambauer

Gilbert Richard (Gil) Bambauer, was born June 26, 1923 to William and Ida (Schwenker) Bambauer in Lafe, AR. He was the youngest of 7 children. As a teenager, Gil helped his family move, often seeking a dry climate to help his chronically ill father. They settled in Tucson, AZ where, after his father's death two days before Pearl Harbor, he found himself to be a young man in a dangerous world. He joined the US Army Air Corp in Feb. 1943 and served with the 392nd Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force in Wendling, England. After his Honorable discharge in Nov. 1945, he went to work in the Civil Service Aircraft Maintenance Operations at Davis Monthan AFB. Gil met the lovely Martha Dale Hardwicke at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson. They were married on June 11, 1948. He resigned his civilian Air Force job and went to work at Arizona Gear and Mfg. Co. in 1957. He proceeded to work his way up to his final position as Purchasing Manager. Gil retired from AGM Container Controls in June 1986. This enabled Gil to enjoy life and spend time on the people most important to him – Martha, family and friends. A charter member of the AGMCC Hall of Fame, Gil was a humble man, a true friend to those in need, a leader and mentor to three generations of Bambauers, friends and associates. He loved sports, his Arizona Wildcats and beloved St. Louis Cardinals.

Gil leaves behind his wife of 62 yrs. Martha, sons Stan (Cyndy), Rick (Debby) and Paul (Monica). He will also be sorely missed by his grandchildren Lisa Bambauer-West, Tom Bambauer, Steven Bambauer and Casey Bambauer. He is also survived by his sister, Blanche and many nieces and nephews.
Gil was preceded in death by his father and mother William and Ida, brothers Edward, Lewis, William, Harold and sister Della. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Providence Speech and Hearing Center 1301 Providence Ave. Orange, CA 92868, or United Food Bank 245 S. Nina Ave. Mesa, AZ. 85210.
