Helen May Eubanks




Helen May Eubanks, 90, of St. Charles, Missouri, formerly of Paragould, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, in St. Charles.
Born May 8, 1917, in Searcy, Mrs. Eubanks was a homemaker, had worked as an aircraft riveter during World War II, and was a member of The Church at Paragould.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Jo Coward of St. Charles; one daughter, Joletta McGrew of Clackamas, Oregon; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hamilton and Annie McGrew; her husband, Hack Eubanks; one son, Filmore Coward; and one grandson, Darrin Coward.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 7th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Bass officiating. Burial will follow in Ramer’s Chapel Cemetery.

Greg Coward, Tim Coward, Scot Coward, Connor Coward, Ben Coward, and Ken Wilson will serve as pallbearers.

Alvin Neal Hicks



Alvin Neal Hicks, 70, of Paragould passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008. He was born April 24, 1938 in Milligan Ridge, AR. to Coy and Euna Hicks. Neal was a member of the Center Hill Church of Christ. He retired from CenturyTel Telephone Company after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue (Montgomery) Hicks, one daughter and son-in-law Mona and Tommy Shewmaker of Paragould, Ark., three sons and daughter-in-laws: Marshall and Shari Hicks, Scott and Jennifer Hicks, all of Paragould, Ark., Bill and Missie Hicks of West Memphis, Ark., five grandsons: Bradley and Allen Shewmaker, Dustin and Andrew Hicks all of Paragould, Ark., Beau Hicks of Jonesboro, Ark., one granddaughter Emily Hicks of Paragould, Ark., one great-grandson Carter Reed Shewmaker of Paragould, Ark., three sisters: Agness House and Betty St. John of Excelsior Springs, Mo. and Alice Alsup of Orrick, Mo., fours brothers: Hurshel Hicks of Watkins, Colo., Johnny Hicks of Orrick, Mo., Waymon Hicks of Bay, Ark. and Eddie Hicks of Jonesboro, Ark..

Preceding him in death were his parents Coy and Euna Hicks, two brothers: Noel and Wesley Hicks.

The family will receive friends 6 – 9 p.m., Today, May 6, 2008 at the Center Hill Church of Christ. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday 2008 at Center Hill Church of Christ with Jon Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow at the Monette Memorial Cemetery.

Bradley and Allen Shewmaker, Andrew, Dustin and Emily Hicks, Steve Parker, Manuel Johnson and Royce McMillon will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Reed, Skip Layne, Randy Hutchinson, Billy Watson and Ed Jernigan.

Larry C. Ketcherside



Born December 12, 1940, Larry Ketcherside, age 68, formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 in Protem, Missouri.
He was a painter and a Vietnam veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, sister, Wanda Dial and his parents, Clay Ketcherside and Marie Lollar Krzyton.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelly Perry of Protem, Missouri; sons, Kevin of Winslow, Clay of Gainesville, Shawn and Bradley Ketcherside, siblings, Jan Eric Krzyton and Jo Frances Pearson, all of Paragould and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday night at Heath Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Wednesday, 3:00 PM, at Linwood Cemetery.

Jeanette T. Murphy



Jeanette T. "Net" Murphy,  67, of DeSoto passed away May 5, 2008 in DeSoto.  Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker. 

Born December 11, 1940 in Paragould, Arkansas; she was the daughter of the late Randy and Ira (Fisher) Taylor. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Murphy. She is survived by four sons:  Terry (Michelle) Richey of Festus, Greg (Dagmar) Richey of DeSoto,  Keith Richey of Imperial and Randy (Diane) Richey of Roxanna, Illinois;  two daughters: Janet (Dennis) Hooker of Dudley, Mo., and Judy (Lynn) Sharp of Jonesboro, Arkansas;  13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in DeSoto.

Ellen Inskeep



Ellen Fay Inskeep, 65, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, at her residence.

A retired factory worker, she was born March 18, 1943, in Paragould, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, David Inskeep; three sons, Danny “Cam” Leisure, James Leisure and William Eggers, all of Paragould; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Martha Hyde; one son, Joseph Leisure; and by one brother, Richard Hyde.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday at Pine Knott Cemetery, with Jackie Hailey officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:10 a.m.

Freddie Franklin Smith
 


Freddie Smith, 76, of Paragould died May 6, 2008, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.
Born May 16, 1931 in Beech Grove, Arkansas, he was a member of the Village Creek Church of Christ and was a 35 year employee and retired manager of Barton’s of Paragould. He was also a past member of the Paragould Rotary Club, and was a decorated Korean War veteran.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bobby Griffin of Florence, Alabama; daughter, Julie Smith of Paragould; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Stacy Smith of Jonesboro; granddaughter, Ellen Griffin of Florence; grandson, Ry Griffin and wife, Daisy of Florence; grandsons, Holden Smith of Paragould and Hunter and Clay Smith of Jonesboro; sister, Winnie Edwards of Paragould; brother, Jimmie Smith of St. Louis; and sister-in-law, Wanda Smith of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Smith; his parents, Joe and Burla Smith; two brothers, Galen and Walen Smith; one sister, Jovene Smith; son-in-law, Larry Smith and brother-in-law, Houston Edwards.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30- 8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral service will be Thursday, May 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dwight Harrison officiating. Burial will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens with L. R. Smith and Dwight Harrison officiating.

Pallbearers will be Holden Smith, Hunter Smith, Clay Smith, Jeremie Smith, Drew Smith, James McJunkins and Frank Diggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Ry Griffin, Jeff Freeman, Jeff Long, Ross Ward, Mike Ferrell, Jerry Richardson, Phil Davis, Lanny Ward and Mitchel Smith.

Nancy Sharon Mayfield




Nancy Sharon Mayfield, 67, of Paragould, surrounded by her family, went peacefully to be with her Lord on May 6, 2008. She was born July 4, 1941, to the late Osmer Dickinson and Opal Dickinson Smith.
Nancy was retired from Darling Store Fixtures of Paragould. Nancy enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and she had a love for Bingo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Everett Smith; brother, Richard Dickinson; one daughter, Cynthia; one son, Michael; and two granddaughters, Brianna Arford and Gracie Layne Robbins.

Nancy is survived by her three daughters, Louise Turner, Dora Davis and spouse, Gene Davis, Donna Pitcher; and a son, Larry Beck, all from Paragould. She is also survived by her two sisters, Betty Starrick of Kentucky, Gloria Dean Beasley and spouse, Cletes Beasley of Paragould; and two brothers, BJ Smith of Jonesboro and Ronnie Smith of Paragould. Nancy is survived by ten grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Kristy Jones, Jennifer and Fince Fisher, Amber and Billy Lancaster, Heather and Randall Robbins, Sarah Pitcher, Jessica Howard, Eric Davis, Travis Davis, Jade Beck, and Katie Beck. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren, Bryce and Kelby Fisher, Patience, Andrea, Tyler, Zander and Conner Lancaster, Nevaeh Quintana, Lily Jones, and Austin Arford. She is survived by her niece and nephew, Ladeana and Lenny Beasley, niece, Rona Kay Smith; and four nephews, Brian, Billy, Bruce, and Aaron Smith, along with many friends.

A family memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould, is in charge of arrangements. No visitation is scheduled.

Teddy Joe Potter



Born August 12, 1935, Teddy Joe Potter, age 73, went to the Lord surrounded by his family on May 6, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Tom Potter and grandson, Mitchell Wade Luttrell.

Survivors include his wife, Nola Mae Potter; and children, Joann Whitley, Judy Kaye Maurizi, Steven Dwayne Potter, Cindy Lou Weaver, and Ellen Marie Potter. He was a proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He was a loving son of Diva Marie Potter Claxton; and brother of Bill Potter and Sue Gladdis.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 9th, at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery with John Miller officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m., Friday.

Ninnette Crow




Ninnette Crow, 91, of Paragould, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Belle Meade Nursing Center, Paragould.
Born April 30, 1917, in Saint Francis, Arkansas, Mrs. Crow was retired from Graber’s Department Store, and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Betty Crow of Paragould; three grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Crow.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Graveside services will be conducted 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 9th, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Campbell, Missouri, with Dennis Strope officiating.

Ethel Doris Robinson Butler




Ethel Butler, 79, of Schugtown, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Lake Side Nursing Center.
Born January 3, 1929, to William Gus and Marie Robinson, she was an avid gardener, quilter, artist and homemaker. Mrs. Butler was a member of the Schugtown Methodist Church, member of the Craighead County Extension Homemakers Club. She was a 1946 graduate of Dixie High School.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years, Cleadus “C. P.” Butler of the home; sons, Dale and wife, Bridget, Kent and wife, Ann, all of Schugtown; and daughter, Carrie Dawn Butler Wells and husband, David of Louisville, Kentucky. She is also survived by siblings Garland Robinson of Walcott, Vonda Noel and Joy Huckabee, both of Paragould, and Roy Robinson of Kingman, Arizona; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her legacy will be carried on by her grandchildren, Megan, Tyler, Brandon and Mikala Butler, and Ashleigh and Bryce Wells.

Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 10th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Everett Isom and Tommy Toombs officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Wanda Bernice Jobe Neeley
1927 ~ 2008


Wanda Bernice Neeley, went to be with the lord on May 7, 2008.  She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Millard C. (Red) Neeley and her eight children, Carolyn Jean Pilla, David Alan Neeley, Shirley Clariece Garrett, Patricia Ann Tyler, Mark Stephen Neeley, Donna Marie Miller, Melinda Neeley Young and Janet Neeley St. John.  Wanda found joy in her 15 grandchildren; Sheri, Alan, Jena, Kimberly, Stephen, Kyle, Crystal, Breanna, Blake, Drew, Josh, Megan, Eric, Rob and Natalie and her nine great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, one step great great-grandchild, two brothers, six sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Daughter of Earl William and Lois Magnolia Branch Jobe, granddaughter of Joseph and Sarah Frances Thomason Branch, and Sam and Hattie McFarland Jobe.  She is the great granddaughter of  R.T. and Mollie (Mary C.) Robinson Thomason and James Thomas Henry Branch and Martha Jane Gibson, all of Greene County, AR

 

Wanda's family will be receiving friends and relatives at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta on Saturday, May 10th from 5-9 and Sunday, May 11th from 2-6 pm.  Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM Monday, May 12th at Grace Brethren Church on Big Shanty Rd. in Kennesaw.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Pkwy, Charlotte, N.C. 28201-0001, in Wanda's honor.

Charles Donald Martin



Charles Donald Martin, 76, of Jonesboro died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.

He was born on May 20, 1931, to Fred and Vera Walls Martin. He was a graduate of Rector High School and attended Arkansas State College. He was a Marine in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart.

He was an avid traveler, hunter and fisherman. His stories of his adventures are legendary with friends and family. He worked in the floor covering service with Larry Newman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don; youngest son, Chuck; and a grandson, Thad Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Janice Lewis Martin of Jonesboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Cindy Martin of Midway, and Jon and Margaret Martin of Jonesboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Al Puente of Groves, Texas, and Lousia and Paul Smith, of Monticello; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister and husband, Donzie and Julius Taylor of Parker, Colo.; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel of Rector with Ryan McRae officiating and interment in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Phyllis Jean Hafer Church



Phyllis Jean Hafer Church, 67, of Paragould died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at her home.

Born December 28, 1940, in Craighead County, she was a homemaker and former employee of Craighead Electric. She was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Debbie McDaniel Wineland and husband Rick of Paragould; one son, Michael Church and wife Karen of Paragould; two brothers, Forrest “Sonny” Hafer and Patrick Hafer, both of Jonesboro; two sisters, Patricia Marshall and husband Mickey of Dixie and Wilma Faye Durham of Jonesboro; three grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Church; two infant sisters, Sharron Lee and Linda Wayne Hafer; and son-in-law, Scott McDaniel.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Pine Log Cemetery.

Gary D. Horne



Gary D. Horne, 60, of Jonesboro died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born March 29, 1948 in Paragould into the family of Forrest and Daisy Horne. He attended Valley View School and was retired from the U.S. Post Office, serving in Jonesboro and Grubbs for 35 years. He attended Temple Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, June Horne of the home; one son, Chance Horne, and wife Jenni of Jonesboro; one daughter, Hannah Clark, and husband Terry of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Hunter Clark, Clayton and Carly Horne, all of Jonesboro; and one brother, Carl Horne of Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Daisy Horne, and one brother, Donnie Horne.

Active pallbearers will include Gale Ransone, Jesse Hanks, Dwight Tosh, Glen Joiner, Edward Haun and Jim Duncan. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Bracy and the Valley View graduating class of 1966.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Larry Rice and Jerry Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in McDaniel Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-8 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Rollie Chester Beebe



Rollie Chester Beebe, 81, of Paragould passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008. He was born May 9, 1927, in Lawrence, KS. to William and Evelyn Beebe. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Unity Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Adora (Gonzales) Beebe of the home; two sons, Travis Dale Beebe of Cabot and Rollie Chester Beebe, Jr. of Poplar Bluff, MO., one daughter, Cynthia Gayle Boggs of Paragould; one sister, Armilda Turner of Bryan, TX., and four grandchildren, Amy Michele Barger of Cabot, Kelly Shane White of Corning, Chastity Deeann Derr of Pryor, OK. and Rollie Chester Beebe, III of Tulsa, OK. and four great-children.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Evelyn Beebe and two brothers Billy and Glenn Beebe.

Larry Clement



Larry Clement, 58, formerly of Paragould, passed away May 11, 2008, in Oregon.

Larry grew up in Paragould before moving to Oregon in 1983. He was a graduate of Greene County Tech.

Survivors include his daughters, Aubrey Stromire of Jonesboro and Torie Ellis and Marissa Clement of Oregon; a brother, Kevin Clement of Paragould; a sister, Peggy Gilmore of Paragould; and two grandchildren, Bobby Stromire of Jonesboro and Joey Ellis of Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Clara Clement; and two brothers, Troy and Bob Clement.

There will be a memorial service at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould on 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1. The family will receive family and friends from 2-3:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Mamie Ellen Reed



Mamie Ellen Reed, 81, of Paragould died Monday, May 12, 2008 at her home.

She was a homemaker and member of Grace Baptist Church. She was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Henderson, KY., the daughter of the late Phillip and Effie Beswick.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Reed of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Barker of Paragould and Lisa and John Abanathy of Beech Grove; sons and daughter-in-law: Tony and Kim Reed of Maumelle and Mark Reed of Vail, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening.

Her life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Gerald James and Dr. Jeff Beshears officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Marty Reed, Jerrod Barker, Eric Barker, Evan Abanathy and Ryan Abanathy.

George W. Cagle



George W. Cagle, 76, of Paragould, formerly of Leachville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He was a farmer and member of Boynton Church of Christ, where he also served as deacon. He served on the Leachville High School Board for 20 years and held the positions of secretary, vice president and president during that time.

He served four years on the Arkansas Activities Association’s executive committee. He officiated basketball games for more than 30 years and was inducted into the Arkansas Officials Association’s Hall of Fame.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Star of Paragould, and Rudi and Deanna of Leachville; one daughter and son-in-law, Renell and Barry Beach of Leachville; three brothers, Cecil Cagle of Blytheville, Joe Cagle of Leachville and Edmund Cagle of Alabama; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Earl and Nancy Layton Cagle; four sisters, Opal Meadows, Leona Young, Dorothy Cagle and Mabel Cagle; and three brothers, Alfred Cagle, Claud Cagle and Henry Cagle.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Letha Lavelle Hodges



Letha Lavelle Branyan Hodges, born April 6, 1916, faithful servant of the Lord, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to Heaven on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the age of 92 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Eler Branyan of Harrisburg; three brothers, Elmer, C.H. and Doc; three sisters, Ruby, Ruth and Lois; her husband, the Rev. Carl Hodges, former pastor of Bethel Station Baptist Church; and one son, Charles Winfred Hodges.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Janet Hodges; two grandsons and their wives, Jeff and Jessica Hodges of Paragould, and Jeremy and Kara Hodges of Starkville, Miss. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Brennan, Ally and Blake Hodges, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

William J. McClure



William J. McClure, 81, of Paragould died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was born December 1, 1926, in Philadelphia, the son of the late William and Lucy McClure. He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Marine Corps.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

William was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Lynette Raley McClure; sisters, Gerri Lynn and Wilma Jane; and grandsons, Scott Allen and Matthew Jeffrey Finch.

Survivors include five daughters, Lisa Hunt of Paragould, Teresa Conyers of Pollard, Sarah McClure of Gulfport, Miss., Ann Miller and Mary Brooks, both of Marmaduke; three sons, Bill Blasko and Kevin McClure of Paragould, and John McClure of Marmaduke; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home with visitation from 6:30-9 p.m.

Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with John Marconi and Rex Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Knights of Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund.

William Walker, 65, of Marked Tree, formerly of Paragould, died May 13, 2008 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born September 13, 1942 in Paragould.
Bill loved books and music. He is remembered by his many friends and his surrogate family at Abilities Unlimited at Paragould and Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Mary Louise Walker; and by one brother, Richard “Dick” Walker.

Buford Howard Wood, 81, of Paragould, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at his residence.
A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Wood was born October 31, 1926, in Beech Grove. He was an auto body repairman and a member of 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Wood of the home; two sons, James Wood of Paragould and Jeff Wood of Rock Valley, Iowa; and two daughters, Wanda Wood of the home and Donna Campbell of Rock Valley, Iowa. He is also survived by two brothers, Wesley Wood of Southaven, Mississippi, Wayne Wood of Pontiac, Michigan; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Mr. Wood was preceded in death by one son, John Wood; one daughter, Linda Jean Prince; one grandson, John Eric Campbell; three sisters; and seven brothers.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Chance Lee Fields, 2 months, of Paragould, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2008 at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Chance was born March 6, 2008.

Nellie Earline Duke, age 87, of Jonesboro, formerly of Paragould, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Craighead Nursing Center.
Earline was a sales representative for over 35 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was born October 15, 1920 in Alexander, Arkansas the daughter of the late W.T. "Bill" and Polly (McBride) Gaskill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dayton Duke.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Beverly & Tom Cormany of Cordova, Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law: Bill & Carolyn Duke of Jonesboro; grandchildren: Corie Goodman of Paragould, Candi Scott of Austin, Texas, Ellen Duke of Jonesboro, Leigh Cormany, Lauren Cormany, both of Cordova, Tennessee, Joe Duke of Jonesboro and six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Saturday at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at a graveside service at Linwood Cemetery at 11:00 AM Saturday, with the procession leaving the funeral home at 10:45. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Deronda Sheeks, 84, of Paragould, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her residence.
Mrs. Sheeks was born March 25, 1924, in Greene County. She was a homemaker, and a member of Walcott Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Haskell Sheeks of Kevil, Kentucky, Timothy Sheeks of Smithland, Kentucky, and Todd Sheeks of Paragould; two daughters, Deronda M. Riley of Marshall, Texas, and Rebecca Baucon of Paducah, Kentucky; one stepson, Floyd McDaniel of Mount Clemens, Michigan; and stepdaughter, Nena Verburg of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is also survived by three brothers, Lee Shipman of Mesa, Arizona, James Shipman of Delaplaine, and Jerry P. Shipman of Paragould; four sisters, Sybal Stroud of Millington, Michigan, Mary Thompson, Fannie Lenderman, and Patricia Lenderman, all of Paragould; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Sheeks; her parents, Luther and Cora Gramling Shipman; and by three sisters, Betty Lou Shipman, Lucille Shipman, and Nadine Turner.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 17th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Charlie Elmer Cameron



Charlie Elmer Cameron, 95, of Paragould died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Belle Meade Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 31, 1912, at Paragould, he was a retired cowboy and horse trainer and was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mitchell Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Ron Pickney and Junior Vester officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Ralph Hardin



Funeral services for 83-year-old Ralph Hardin of Rector, who passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Evergreen Nursing Home, will be today at 11 a.m. in the Irby Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Roger Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Mr. Hardin was born March 5, 1925, at Greene County, along with his twin brother, Ray, who survives him.

His first love was his church, and gardening was his passion. His occupation was working as a farmer, and he was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Rector VFW, and spent more than 50 years as a member of the Rector Masonic Lodge. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and was a World War II Army veteran active during the invasion of Japan.

He was preceded in death by one brother, E.J. Hardin; and son-in-law, Gordon Nutt.

He was married Dec. 18, 1949, to Mae Ruth (Deaver)Hardin; she survives him.

Other survivors in addition to his twin brother Ray are two daughters, Shiela Hardin of Maumelle and Karen Nutt of Rector; one sister, Willodean Whitaker; four grandchildren, Pete Nutt of Jonesboro, LaRhonda Prichard of Collierville, Tenn., Stanley Nutt of Arlington, Tenn., and B.J. Nutt of Rector, presently in Iraq; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Sunday night beginning at 5:30 in Irby Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers are Richard Simmons, Stanley Nutt, Bobby Tracer, Tommy Huggins, Steve Crancer and the Rev. Eddie Harris. Honorary pallbearers are nephews, Mike Spain, Rick Spain, Perry Whitaker and Phillip Whitaker.

James Luther Bishop



James “Jim” Luther Bishop, 51, of Paragould died Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Southeast Hospital at Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mr. Bishop was born July 3, 1956.

He was a self-employed flooring installer and member of Alexander Baptist Church. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, sky diving, fishing, hunting and stock car racing.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Bob Bishop.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Bishop of the home; sons, Matt, Luke and Rob Bishop all of the home; his mother Alice Bishop of Paragould; brother and sister-in-law, John and Sheryl Bishop of Cardwell, Mo., sister and brother-in-law, Cathlyn and John Cornish of Jonesboro. Many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-9 at Heath Funeral Home.

Norman Ray Buchanan



Norman Ray Buchanan, 85, of Paragould died Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He was born April 24, 1923, in Puxico, Mo., the son of the late George and Lou Etta Estes Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Gemma; two brothers; and three sisters.

Norman was a staff engineer at Elder Manufacturing, a World War II Army veteran and member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Buchanan of the home; daughters, Rayla Buchanan of Denair, Calif., and Angie Needham of Paragould; stepsons, Larry Biggerstaff and Tim Biggerstaff, both of McLeansboro, Ill., and David Biggerstaff of Paragould; stepdaughter, Debbie Powers of McLeansboro; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home. Family and friends will leave in procession from Heath Funeral Home at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday for a 12:30 p.m. graveside service in Greene County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bruce Stone officiating.

Dearl Wayne Hutchinson



Dearl Wayne Hutchison, 63, of Paragould passed away at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould on Monday, May 19, 2008.

Dearl was born January 5, 1945 in Leachville to Larue and Roxy Midget Hutchison . He met and married Shirley Davis on March 7, 1968. He was a retired Sergeant from the Arkansas National Guard and was of the Christian faith.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Hutchison of the home; a son, Norman Hutchison of Paragould; two daughters, Melody Haley of Paragould, and Kim Keeling of Fort Campbell, Ky.; two brothers, Leonard Gene Hutchison of Fisher, and Earl Hutchison of Jonesboro; three sisters, Delvene Earls of Harrisburg, Ida Thomas of Grubbs, and Reba Allen of Newark; six grandsons.

Dearl was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008, in the Jonesboro Memorial Park with military honors. Eldon Richardson will be officiating. Langford-Bookout Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Irene Herring, 88, of Jonesboro died Monday, May 19, 2008, at St. Elizabeth’s Place in Jonesboro.

She was born January 20, 1920 at Walnut Corner in Greene County into the family of Burley and Lillie Lamb Songer. She worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Bernards Medical Center before retiring and was a member of Greensboro Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by two sons, Eugene Trotter of Jonesboro and Kenneth Trotter of Crossville, Tenn.; one daughter, Marcella Martin of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Bertel Martin, Mark Trotter, Marlin Trotter, Kevin Trotter and Pamela McCoy; one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Trotter.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Grover Trotter and Gilbert Herring; her parents, Burley and Lillie Songer; and two brothers, Clifford and Hubert Songer.

He was born to Shorty and Vernelia Smith of Marmaduke on November 9, 1947 and worked at Emerson.

Ronald was preceded in death by his father: Shorty Smith.

He is survived by a special friend: Sherrie Thompson of Paragould, a sister: Gayla Davis of Marmaduke, two nephews: Chris Brady of Paragould and Richie Brady of Marmaduke, and a niece: Angie Cox of Paragould along with a host of friends.

Homer Vaught, 92 of Wappapello, Missiouri formerly of Rector passed away May 21, 2008 at the Puxico Nursing Home.
Homer was born September 28, 1915 to the late James and Luna Mae (Adams) Vaught.

Mary Evelyn Walden, 67, of Paragould died Friday, May 23, 2008 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. Mary was born October 21, 1940, she was a member of the Grace United General Baptist Church, a homemaker, former employee of Campbell’s Café and was a Stanley Products representative.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cleveland Provoe and Mildred (Vincent) Provoe, son, Irwin Walden, granddaughter, Taylor Burdin, great grandson, Ryan Rutherford and great granddaughter, Annellise Rutherford.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Walden of the home, 2 daughters, Darla Burdin of Paragould and Mary Ann Kiefer of Cabot, AR, son, Billy Walden of Cabot, AR, sisters, Lucille Marshall of Morton, IL, Faye Carroll and Gaye Hardin of Marmaduke, AR, Laura Hicks of Paragould and Peggy Parker of Peoria, IL. 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Bobby Gene Rhoads



Bobby Gene Rhoads, 74, of Paragould died Friday, May 23, 2008 at his residence. He was born August 3, 1933 in Dell, Arkansas the son of Benjamin Franklin and Marie Ragsdale Rhoads. An Army veteran Bobby served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Meat Inspector with the USDA and he was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Vida Mae Scott Rhoads of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David McSpadden of Paragould; two brothers and sister-in-law, Steve and Lucy Rhoads of Mesquite, Texas and Jerry Rhoads of Laos, Vietnam; two sisters, Brenda Stanley of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Glenda Klebla of Casco, Michigan; and two granddaughters, Christy Lynn McSpadden and Whitney Nicole McSpadden.

Bobby’s parents and one sister, Linda Rhoads preceded him death.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Greene County Memorial Gardens with Reverend Dennis Strope officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home.

Delcie Gearldine Bassett



Delcie Gearldine Bassett, 92, of Jonesboro, formerly of Manila, died Friday, May 23, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Place in Jonesboro.

Born at Half Moon, in Mississippi, County, she was the daughter of the late Walter David and Grace Brooks Vastbinder. She lived much of her life in the Manila area, where she was a cook for Manila Public Schools.

She moved to Jonesboro in 1966 where she and her late husband, Albert Bassett, operated Bassett’s Grocery until their retirement in 1973. After her retirement, she lived in Paragould for several years before returning to Jonesboro.

She was a member of Cathedral Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Bassett; one grandchild; and one infant son.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Bassett of Bono, James Bassett and Bob Bassett, both of Jonesboro; four daughters, Nita Roe of Paragould, Linda Peters of Portland, Ind., Shirley Davis of Leachville and Meredith Farris of Fulton, Miss.; one sister, Glen Delusi of Pocahontas; one half-sister, Sue Workman of Manila; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Cathedral Baptist Church at Jonesboro with the Revs. Doug Welborn and Jerry Parker officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery near Paragould under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.

Diana June Rowton



Diana June Rowton, age 61, of Paragould went to be with Jesus on Friday, May 23, 2008 in St. Bernard’s Hospital. She was born Nov. 14, 1946 to the late John and Lola (Kimble) McCord.

She was a homemaker and attended the Nondenominational Church in Paragould.

Survivors are her loving husband, Johnny Rowton of the home; a son, lance (Dawn) Rowton of Adrian, Mich., a daughter, Devonna (Donnie) McPherson of Fort Smith, Ark.; her siblings; Lanny McCord of Webberville, Mich.; Judy Wright of Piggott, Twila Thompson of Piggott, Thomas McCord of East Lansing, Mich.; Linda Brown of Piggott, Tony McCord of Georgia, Teresa Brown of Gainesville, Sula Hart of Georgia, Sandy McCord of Venice, Fla.; and Lena Graddy of Jonesboro; four grandchildren: josh and Jared Thompson and Jonathan and Parker Rowton. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be today, May 25 at 2 p.m. in the Irby Funeral Home chapel in Rector with Brother Carter Grindstaff officiating. Visitation will begin today at 12 noon in the Irby Chapel in Rector.
Interment will be in the Redenbo Cemetery near Corning.

Algie Leroy Jeter




Algie Leroy Jeter, 91 of Paragould, died on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. Mr. Jeter was born January 31, 1915. He was the former owner/operator of Arrow Auto Parts and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Algie was preceded in death by a son, Jim Jeter; parents, Roy and Pansy York Jeter; brothers, Rayburn and Raymond Jeter; sisters, Ella Mae Oliver and Mildred May.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jeter of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don Hyde of Paragould and Jan and Jerry Hathcoat of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be this morning 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church with funeral services following at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Gerald James and great grandson Josh Davis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mable Irene Garner



Mable Irene Garner, 93 of Beech Grove, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at St. Bernard’s Regiona Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Garner was born January 31, 1915, to John W. and Vell Taylor Shipley. She was a homemaker and farmed in her early life and later worked in the agriculture department at ASU. She was a member of the Light Church of Christ.

Mable was the 3rd of eight family members who are deceased including her husband, Sanford P. Garner, daughter, Lois Jean Walton, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include her son, Cloyce Dean Garner of Beech Grove, sister, Minnie Rowland of Paragould and brother, Thomas Shipley of Paragould. 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. with Officiating. Burial will follow in the Morrow Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.

Alta Francis Buck



Alta Francis Buck, 92, of Paragould, died May 25, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born December 11, 1915 in Lexington, Tenn., she was retired from Paragould Laundry and was a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church.

She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Leland and Anita Buck, Alvin and Puggy Buck, Jackie and Nina Buck, and Jerry and Cheryl Buck, all of Paragould, and Gaylon and Sheri Buck of Houston, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Dorothy McCollum of Michigan; two sisters, Roofie Buck and Virginia Buck, both of Lexington, Tenn.; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mary Ann McCollum, her husband, Lelon Buck, and five sisters.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. today, May 27 at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Royce Boling officiating. Burial will be in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, 11 a.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Bobbye Jean Davis



Bobbye (Bridges) Davis, 79, of Jonesboro, formerly of Paragould, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at her home. She was born April 26, 1929 the daughter of the late Robert E. "Bob" and Cora Bridges. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Larry T. Coffman, brother, Paul Bridges, sister, Marion Garrett, half-sisters, Hazel and Estel.
Bobbye was retired from Greene County Memorial Gardens and a member of Paragould First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Deann Davis Coffman and son, Dallas Lee Davis, II. both of Jonesboro; aunt, Mabel Davis of Harrisburg, Illinois; sister-in-law, Ruth Davis of Eldon, Missouri; grandchildren, Scarlett Marylee Davis of Columbia, Missouri, Chloe Kristina Coffman and Paul Robert Coffman, both of Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, May 29, at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel at 2:00 PM Friday, May 30, with Reverend Don Thomas officiating.

Kenneth Ray Ritsmon




Kenneth Ray “Kink” Ritsmon, 66, of Dixie, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at St Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
He was born September 9, 1941, the son of the late Henry and Adell (Vick) Ritsmon. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Johnny and Marion Ritsmon and his sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Arnold Hemby.
“Kink” was employed by the City of Jonesboro Street Department for approximately four years and was a foreman for the Craighead County Road Department Eastern District for seventeen years. He had attended Shugtown Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ritsmon of the home; sons and daughters-in-law: Jay and Becky Ritsmon of Manila and Andy and Amanda Ritsmon of Schugtown; precious angels (grandchildren): Tyler Ritsmon, Mallory Ritsmon, Mackenzie Ritsmon and Jacob Ritsmon; sisters and brother-in-law: Janet "Janie" and Cliff Manley and Rose Ann Bates, both of Paragould; brother-in-law, Les Bates of Paragould; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Everett Isom officiating.
Burial will follow at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

Audra Marie Bayird



Audra Marie Bayird, 22, of Paragould, was born June 13, 1985, she passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Jonesboro.
Audra was a graduate of Greene County Tech High School, and a December, 2007 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University. She was a salesclerk at Dillards in Jonesboro and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her father, Doye Bayird, Jr.; her mother, Debbie Bayird; three brothers, Brock Bayird, Tyler Bayird, and Seth Bayird, all of Paragould; and by one sister, Emily Bayird of Fayetteville. She is also survived by her grandparents, Doye and Judy Bayird and Anniece Young, all of Paragould. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Sterling Young.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Jason Noel officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Michael George, Robert George, Steven George, Mack Strope, Tony Stevens, and Kenny Hall, Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Sammy St. Jean will be an honorary pallbearer.

Betty Lynn Reynolds



Betty Lynn Reynolds, age 61, of Paragould, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at her residence.
She was employed by Colson Caster Corporation and was a member of Stanford Baptist Church. Born February 2, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Chester Adams and Ilene (Waters) Adams. She was also preceded in death by her companion, Clarence McDonald.

Survivors include her daughters, Trish McCain and Carrie Reynolds, both of Paragould; son, Kenneth Freeman of Lincoln, AR; sisters, Gloria Hepner and Sue Maxwell, both of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Darrell Adams of Rockford, Ill., and six grandchildren.

Family and friends will meet at Heath Funeral Home Friday, May 30, 2008 to go in procession at 10:30 am for a graveside service at New Friendship Cemetery at 11:00 am with Rev. Marion Gramling officiating.

Michael Anthony Keasler




Michael Anthony Keasler, born May 25, 1998, in Paragould, Arkansas, passed from this life to rest in the arms of his Heavenly Father May 28, 2008, after a hard fought battle with leukemia.
Michael is the adored son of Cassandra Keasler and Dennis Keasler and his fiancée, Tabatha Tudor; and the brother to Brittany Keasler and Johnny and Nicholas Tudor, all of Paragould. In addition to his parents and siblings, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Kim and Alice Turner of Paragould; his paternal grandparents, Kerry and Vonda Keasler, also of Paragould, Roy and Bo Gossett of Heber Springs; step grandmother, Barbara Goetz of Paragould; his maternal great grandmother, Marie Medcalf of Paragould; paternal great grandparents, Leland and Rachel Keasler of Paragould; step great grandparents, Vonnie and Marda Boston of Tekonsha, Michigan; and step great grandmother, Gloria Gossett of Jonesboro. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his dog, Shiloh.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Larry Cooper; great grandparents, L. R. “Gabby” and Georgia Gillihan; great grandfather, Edwin Medcalf; and by step great grandfather, C. E. Gossett.

Michael was a member of the Community of Christ; Kid’s Bible Club Mission and played in the bell choir. He attended Greene County Tech schools and was most recently in the fourth grade. Michael loved baseball, basketball, football, video games, demolition derby, his BB gun, drag races and was a NASCAR fan of driver Jeff Gordon. A loving son and grandson, an amazing brother and nephew, Michael touched all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00 p.m., Friday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 31st, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmie Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roger Newberry, Matthew Newberry, Tony Horton, Brian Drenen, Randy Gladish and Nathan Sparkman. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Mitchell and Papa Kim Turner.

Memorials in honor of Michael may be given to the American Red Cross.

James Henry Midgett



James Henry Midgett, 69, of Walnut Ridge, died Friday, May 30, 2008 in Memphis resulting from an automobile accident.

A retired farmer and carpenter, he was a minister for the Church of God of Prophecy in Pocahontas.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Lindley Midgett of the home; daughter, Patricia Hefner of Bono; and brothers, Gene, Charles and David Midgett.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 3rd at 10 a.m. in House-Gregg Funeral Home Chapel of Walnut Ridge with Arvil Tribble oficiating. Burial will follow in Lorado Cemetery near Walcott.

Visitation will be tonight from 5:30-8 in the funeral home.

Dr. Burch Vandon Raley


Dr. Burch Vandon Raley, 91, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Fayetteville Veterans Home with his family by his side. He was born March 31, 1917, in Paragould, to James Jefferson Raley and Mary Eva Burch Raley.

Raised in Little Rock, he graduated Catholic High in l935, and was noted high school athlete who passed up a football scholarship with the University of Arkansas to attend medical school. He graduated from University of Arkansas Medical School in l942, he married Elizabeth Jean Barnett, beginning a loving and devoted relationship of forty-eight years. In that year he left for service as a medical officer with the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving with the 78th Seabee Battalion in the South Pacific.

After the war, he completed his residency at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. and worked in private practice there. In l951, Burch and Betty returned to Little Rock where they began raising a family of seven sons.

Dr. Raley worked for the Veterans Administration in Little Rock and Fayetteville from l952 to l979, where he retired from the position of Chief of Medicine at the Fayetteville Veterans Administration Hospital. During 27 years of service with the VA as a board certified internist, he earned the respect of his colleagues and the gratitude of countless veterans and their families.

Burch was a dedicated and infinitely patient father to his seven sons. He was a tireless worker both in and out of his profession. Whatever he did, he did well, from bricklaying to carpentry to tennis, which he played well into his eighties. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by Betty; two of his sons, Burch and Kevin; two brothers, Jay and Thomas and two sisters, Mary and Marion and by his second wife, Laura Joe Huff Raley. He is survived by five sons, Mike (Elau), Steve (Melinda), Dennis (Wendy), Mark (Tammy) Patrick Raley; two brothers, Robert and Ed and beloved daughter-in-law, Susan Raley. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Laura Raley, Shannon Raley, Anna Cagle, Bill Raley and Megan Raley, all of Fayetteville and Robin Raley of Little Rock. He leaves four great grandchildren, Courtney, Brittany, Justin and Brianna Cagle of Fayetteville. Dr. Raley was a man who truly loved life and the people who shared it with him. He will be greatly missed. A visitation is scheduled for this evening between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m, Wednesday, at Moore’s Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Comfort Cemetery.
