Marilyn Sue Kueter



Marilyn Sue Kueter, age 67, of Paragould, passed away Sunday at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Sue was born November 20, 1941 to the late Johnnie Marvin and Bessie Hester Swink. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald and Harlan Swink. Sue was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Sue enjoyed cooking, baking, being the "Avon Lady", raising her family, spending time with her grandchildren and her cat, Precious.
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 47 years: Tommy Kueter of the home; son and daughter-in-law: Steve and Emily Kueter of Paragould; daughters and sons-in-law: Kim and Bob Horner of Powell, Ohio, Kelly and Farrell Gibson of Paragould, Angela and Kevin Case of Little Rock, Courtney and Stan Sells of Paragould; sisters: Glenda Kaminer of Paragould, Sharon McWilliams of Davis Junction, Illinois; grandchildren: Kyle, Madison, and Maxwell Horner; Julia, Sarah, and Benjamin Kueter; Katelyn, Lauren, Lunden and Emma Gibson; Kendall Case; and one expected grandchild, Ava Rose Sells.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4, after a public Rosary at 6:30 at Heath Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Matt Garrison and Deacon Rex Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jerry Kaminer, Brian Kueter, Shawn McWilliams, Chad Register, Craig Rosten and Mike Swink. Elvis O'Dell McFall




Elvis O’Dell McFall, Sr., age 72, of Jonesboro, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, at his residence.
Born June 28, 1936, in Paragould, Mr. McFall was a retired independent truck driver, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry McFall and Ronny McFall, both of Jonesboro; and two daughters, Sue Ann Savage of Brimfield, IL. and Melenda Jones Holden of Jonesboro. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and by his faithful companion Peewee.

Mr. McFall was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Adrian O’Dell McFall; his wife, Lee McFall; one son, Elvis McFall, Jr.; and by one brother, Norman Ray McFall.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. .

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 6th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Jeffrey Dial officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Mike Newberry, Eddie Wheeley, C. J. Jones, Glen Cullen, Jerry Crump, and Rick Miller will serve as pallbearers.

Ashley Dawn Cline, age 29, Paragould, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 in Paragould. Ashley was a stay at home mom and attended Joyful Sound Church. Ashley was born May 11, 1979.
Survivors include her husband: Jeffery Cline; daughters: Deshaya Danielle Cline, Azlynn Maylen Lenora Cline; son: Dustin Dale Cline, all of the home; father and stepmother, Ricky and Frances Cook; brothers: Jerry Dewayne Cook and Johnny Floyd Cook; father-in-law: Gary Dale Cline, all of Paragould. Ashley was preceded in death by her son, Zachary Dale Cline, mother, June Maylen Cook and mother-in-law, Nora Anita Weaver.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Heath Funeral Home. Celebration of Life will be at Heath Colonial Chapel, 1:00 p.m., Friday, with Reverend Don Slatton and Reverend David White officiating.

Barbara Ellen Ragsdale

 

Barbara Ellen Ragsdale, age 62, of Rector, formerly of Paragould, passed away Wednesday in Paragould. She was born May 11, 1946 in Delaplaine the daughter of the late Chris and Rosie McKinnley Honneycutt. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Junior, Tom and Bill Honneycutt and Theda Yarbourogh. Barbara was a homemaker and member of Lake Street Baptist Church. She loved quilting, singing gospel and was a member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband: S.V. Ragsdale, of the home; daughter: Rhonda Ragsdale Row of Rector; son: Chris Ragsdale of Walcott; grandson: Jacob Row of Rector and sister: Vonna Richmond of Rockford, Illinois.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel, 10:00 p.m.Saturday with Reverend Trumann Wycoff officiating. Burial will follow at Jones Ridge Cemetery in Delaplaine.

Betty Ann Lynn
 


Betty Ann Lynn, age 106, of Little Rock, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Briarwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born October 27, 1902, in Paragould, to Edward and Rose Elizabeth Williams.
Mrs. Lynn was a retired cosmetologist, and a member of the Second Baptist Church of Little Rock.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Robert Atkinson of Alexandria, VA., and Ann Brewer of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her son-in-law, M. B. Mross of Little Rock, and by two great grandchildren, Rebekah Brewer of Fairbanks, AK. and Leah Worthy of San Antonio, TX.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 7th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with James Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Christina Dawn Smith
 


Christina Dawn Smith, age 35, of Crawfordsville, formerly of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at her home.
Born October 21, 1973, in Harrisburg, IL., she was an office worker and a member of the Church of Christ. Christy attended Greene County Tech High School.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, John “Jerry” and Ruby Smith; stepfather, Jerry Spencer; one daughter, Olivia Anderson; and one son, Michael Wayne Carter, all of Paragould. She is also survived by her life partner, Pasqual Rodriguez of the home; one sister, Tammy Smith of Springfield, MO., one brother, Jarrod Smith of Paragould; seven stepsisters, Lisa Glover, Julie Sessums, Dena Messer, Leslie Carter, Linda Frost, Tess Loften, and Nina Spencer; two stepbrothers, Kerry Spencer and Robbie Spencer, all of Paragould; and by a half-brother, Jerry Ray Smith of Brookland.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Lynn Smith Spencer; and by her maternal grandmother, Martha Ann (Newsom) Groves.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14th, at the Bethel Church of Christ with Lonnie Pyle officiating. No visitation is scheduled.

Honorary pallbearers will be Canaan J. Smith, Frank Abbott, John Newsom and Eric Newsom.

Shirley Ann Lewis, age 69, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.
Mrs. Lewis was born October 12, 1939, in Shady Grove, AR. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Ann Hill and Carol Barnett, both of Paragould; two brothers, Elvie “Pete” Risner of Rector and Lloyd “Hoot” Risner of Paragould; two grandchildren, Michael and Cody Barnett; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Francis “Lear” Risner; and by two brothers, Jerry and Rob Risner.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7th, at the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Cleat Risner officiating. No visitation is scheduled.

Imogene McCartney
 


Imogene D. McCartney, age 85 of St. Peters, MO., passed away on March 5, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. McCartney was born May 31, 1923 in Alexander Community, Arkansas to Joe and Florence Reddick and attended the Grace Baptist Church in St. Charles, MO.

Survivors include; three sons, Tommy McCartney of Colorado Springs, CO., Ronnie McCartney and Garry McCartney both of St. Peters, one daughter, Kathy Mertz of St. Peters, five brothers, Vernon Reddick of Marmaduke, Kenneth Reddick of St. Louis, and Jimmy, Teddy and Gaylon Reddick all of Paragould; one sister, Glenivee Beaver of Montgomery City, MO., seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Mrs. McCartney was preceded in death by: her husband, Chester McCartney, her parents and four brothers, Freddie, Billy, Joe and Randal Reddick.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 09, 2009 at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Edgar officiating, burial will follow in Reddick Cemetery near Alexander. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Martha Jane McDaniel

 


Martha Jane “Granny Mac” McDaniel, age 95, of Paragould, passed away March 5, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born April 7, 1913 at Sunset, (Crittenton Co.) AR., she was a homemaker and a member of the Lake Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Alvin “Sonny” and JoAnn McDaniel of Asher, OK. one daughter, Irene, “Connie” Pillow of Paragould, five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Solan McDaniel, her parents, David and Rosa Alexander, one son-in-law, Joe Mack Pillow, two granddaughters, Debbie Gail Pillow Greene and Eva Gail McDaniel.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 9, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Faughn, Justin Pillow, Jake Pillow, Cody McDaniel, Derrick McDaniel, and Randy White. Honorary pallbearers will be Kendall McDaniel and Chance White.

Oleta Zella Lamb

 

Oleta Z. Lamb, age 99, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009 at her residence. Born June 26, 1909, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.N. Lamb; parents, Marcus and Bertie Walker; brother, Albin Walker; and sisters, Zada Plunk and Beatrice Smith.

Oleta is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Imogene Lamb of Paragould; twin daughters, Martha Westbrook and Margaret Lamb, both of Paragould; brother, Ike Walker of Adamsville, TN., four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 11th from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Bros. Bill Steeger and Joe Marsden officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Hugh Qualls, Jr.

 

Hugh “Sandy” Qualls Jr., chief petty officer, U.S. Navy, retired, age 70, of Paragould passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Fortson, GA.

Born August 25, 1938, Hugh enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, where he trained to be a corpsman. This led him to serve with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam. After serving his country for more than 27 years, Sandy retired to Arkansas.

He married Sandra Kay Kraus in June 1958. After retirement, Sandy and Sandra traveled and spent time caring for their parents.

In addition to his parents, Hugh and Beatrice Qualls, he was preceded in death by his beloved Sandra Kay in 2003.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh III and Holly Qualls of Hawthorne, NV., and Maj. Ted and Christine Qualls of Fortson, GA., one granddaughter, Ashley Qualls of Spokane, WA., five grandsons, Maxwell and Jaxon Qualls of Hawthorne, NV., Rory, Hunter and Cameron Qualls of Fortson, GA., two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Thurma Lee Qualls of Paragould and Travis and Cliffene Qualls of Lafe, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and William Edgin of Rector, Janie and Frankie Swindle of Paragould and Cindy and Chris Hicklin of North Little Rock; three brothers-in-law, Steven Parkos of Bailey, CO., Robert Parkos of Fresno, CA., and Hughie Hughlin of Cucamonga, CA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Sandy’s life will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14th in the Parish Hall of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paragould.

Robert Ben Newberry

 

Robert Ben Newberry, age 79, of Paragould, passed away March 7, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born September 19, 1929 in Paragould, he was retired from Emerson Electric and was a member of the Church of God.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Connie Newberry of Paragould; one granddaughter, Amanda and her husband Perry McKenzie, and one great granddaughter, Alexis McKenzie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Jane Newberry and his parents, Roy Thomas and Roberta Newberry.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 10, 1:30 p.m. at Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Eric Newberry officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

James Lloyd
 


James S. Lloyd, age 93, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009. Born in Greene County on October 17, 1915, to the late Samuel and Lecter Ann Hoadley Lloyd, Jim was raised in a Christian home and provided that same environment for his children. As a young adult, he led the choir in a mission church that he helped sponsor. Jim was a member and a deacon of Park Hill Baptist Church, and assumed many other roles of church life. The Park Hill Heartstrings Band, where he played the Hawaiian guitar, was his favorite activity in recent years.

After completing a year at Arkansas State College, Jim had two careers. He was a bookkeeper for 20 years, then an employer relations representative with the Employment Security Division. He spent many hours both on the golf course and fishing. When he retired, he and his wife, Norma, traveled extensively. A creative man, he added woodworking and oil painting to his hobbies. For many years, he kept fit by swimming at the North Little Rock Hayes Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Lloyd, and by his sister, Tennie Barnhill of Paragould.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma O. Lloyd of North Little Rock; and a sister, Eulagene Staten of Paragould. He leaves a daughter, Cheryl Fallis of North Little Rock; son and wife, Larry and Vickey Lloyd of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren, Darren Fallis of Cary, N. C., Anna Lloyd of Little Rock, Erin Lloyd of Austin, TX., and Adam Lloyd of Fayetteville. He will be greatly missed, but his family rejoices that he is now with the Lord.

A memorial service led by Dr. Ken Shaddox will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Park Hill Baptist Church, followed by interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Park Hill Baptist Church.

Cynthia Ann Kappelman, age 54, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009. She was a Keno Runner and a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church. Born May 16, 1954, she was the daughter of the late O.V. Kappelman and Willa McPherson.

Cynthia is survived by her mother, Willa McPherson; sister, Sharon Lyons of Dothan, AL., brothers, Eddie Kappelman of Owosso, MI., and Dennis McPherson of Paragould; nephews, Kevin, Dustin, and Noah Kappelman and Brandon McPherson; and nieces, Brooke McPherson and Haley and Hanna Kappelman.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 11th at 12 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Royce Boling officiating. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

J. D. Bateman, age 82, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, at his residence.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Bateman was born May 29, 1926, in Paragould, and retired from International Harvester.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Bateman of Paragould; one son, Jerry Bateman of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; two daughters, Penny Bateman of Memphis, Debbie Scarbrough of Centennial, Colorado; one stepson, Steve Lawrence of Plano, Texas; and three stepdaughters, Deborah Miller, Arlene Abernathy and Melody Person, all of Memphis. He is also survived by two brothers, Bob Bateman of Paragould, Russell Bateman of Grand Blanc, Michigan; two sisters, Barbara Smith and Emma Jane Dobyns, both of Mountain Home; fourteen grandchildren; and by nineteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Hazel Bateman; and by one brother, Gerald Bateman.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 11th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

Hazel Jane Kennemore
 


Hazel Jane Kennemore, age 96, of Light passed away Monday, March 9, 2009.

She was born Aug. 29, 1912, in Greene County, the daughter of the late Golve and Ruthie Gray Faulkner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, D.D. Kennemore; daughter, Ruthie May; sister, Cullen Sturkie; and brothers, John, Pete, Bit and Bud Faulkner.

Hazel was a homemaker and member of Light Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Golvie and Donald Bryan Light of Jonesboro, Bonnie and Cleatus Beasley of Adrian, MI., Kay and Don Coates of Collierville, TN., and Jean and Marvin Exum of Paragould; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Barbara Kennemore of Paragould; sister, Mabel Faulkner of Paragould; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 this evening at Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at the Heath Colonial Chapel 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12th with the Rev. Raymond Atwood officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Darrell, Kevin, Kirk and Justin Beasley, Marty Light, Jarrod and Chad Coates, and Michael Exum. Drew Kennemore will be an honorary pallbearer.

Donald Ray Mandrell


 

Donald Ray Mandrell, age 83, of Paragould, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Mandrell was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Ora Mandrell; and by one brother, Melford “Buddy” Mandrell.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma “Mike” Mandrell of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Ruth Mandrell of Littleton, CO., and David and Patty Mandrell of Tulsa, OK., two granddaughters; and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, and sister-in-law, Lee Roy and Violet Mandrell of Jonesboro; four sisters, Levene Jackson of Wenatchee, WA., Jo Ann Sowell of Moyers, OK., Kathryn McCullar of Paragould, Dorothy Lutrell of Pocahontas; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Born April 16, 1925, in Reyno, he was a Marine veteran of World War II, and a recipient of the Purple Heart and other medals. He saw action with the first group of Marines to land on Iwo Jima and was involved in the occupation of Japan for six months.

Mr. Mandrell retired from Chandler Building Materials in Oklahoma, then he and Mike moved to Paragould in 1983. He was a member of the American Legion in Paragould, and an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 13th, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Bruce Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

James Alvin Sanders

 

James Alvin Sanders, age 61, of Paragould, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009, at his residence.
Born November 10, 1947, in Jasper, AL.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Alma Turner of Paragould; one son, James Eric Sanders of Luxora, AR., one daughter, Mary Lorene Sanders of Luxora; two sisters, Mary Louise Emerline of Rector, and Alma Jean Perry of Paragould. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

 
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould, is in charge of arrangements.

Born November 3, 1913, in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Patricia Graves; and one daughter, Mozell Wyatt, all of Paragould. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Keith Graves and Michael Graves, both of Marmaduke, Gayla Roe, Teresa Nelson, and Tina Eaker, all of Paragould; ten great grandchildren, Cassie Graves of Carterville, IL., Brittany Smith of Tulsa, OK., Jarrod Graves and Keaton Graves, both of Jonesboro, and Cody Nelson, Daniel Roe, Kyle Nelson, Kaitlyn Roe, Tyler Parkinson and Taylor Parkinson all of Paragould; and by one great great grandson, Elijah Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sarah Williams Allen; her husband, John Herman Graves; one son, Ervin Graves; and by three sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 13th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Cudd Cemetery.
Great grandsons, Cody Nelson, Daniel Roe, Jarrod Graves, Kyle Nelson, Keaton Graves, and Tyler Parkinson will serve as pallbearers. Tony Gibson will be an honorary pallbearer.

Charles Robert Newell Sr., age 70, of Marmaduke passed away March 11, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. He was born January 27, 1939, in Lafe to Ira Lee and Ester Newell. He was of the Baptist faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a granddaughter, Brittany Newell, a great-grandson, Isiah Lightheart; one brother, Junior Newell, six sisters, Retha Wilcox, Evelena Scarbrough, Lillian Cole, Melvine Russom, Wanda Cagle and Beatrice McFall.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Newell, three sons, Wayne Newell, Allen Newell and Charles Robert (Bub) Newell Jr., all of Marmaduke, a daughter, Roberta Panhorst of Marmaduke, one brother, James Newell of Michigan, one sister, Alice Knuckles of Paragould, 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14th in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Lura Jean Chunn, age 69, of Paragould passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

She was born August 25, 1939, in Greene County, the daughter of the late Oscar and Bettie Lemmons Austin. Jean retired from College Book Store & Press after several years and was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.

She is survived by her sons, Cam and Rhonda Chunn of Willard, MO., and Keith and Bridgette Chunn of Paragould; sisters, Shirlene Cook of Paragould and Lana Jean of Black Rock; brothers, Larrell Austin, Darrell Austin and Harrell Austin, all of Paragould; and grandchildren, Cassie Wilhite, Cammi Coleman, Holly, Austin, Molly and Gracie Chunn.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday evening in Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15th in the Heath Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow in Pine Knot Cemetery.

Joe ”Butch” Finney, age 61, of Mammoth Spring passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009.

He was born August 27, 1947, at Walnut Ridge to the late Joe and Pearl Finney.

Survivors include his children, Randy Finney of Mishawaka, IN., and Kelly Finney of Mammoth Spring, siblings, Jerry Finney, Tim Black, Carolyn Cowen, Nancy Taylor, Donna Allen, Sandra Finney and Janey Lambert and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15th in Tri-County Highland Funeral Home with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Graveside memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 16th in Lorado Cemetery at Fontaine.

Jo Claire Clairday, age 80, of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009.

She was born April 16, 1928, at Paragould to the late Evert and Leta Hicks Walker. She was a former employee of the Crane Co. and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include two brothers, a sister and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Loy Clairday.

Virginia Holder
 


Virginia F. (Rowland) Holder, age 85, of Poplar Bluff, MO., formerly of Arkansas, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009, in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Holder was born June 10, 1923, in Paragould. She was educated in Arkansas public schools and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees were earned from ASU where she became a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honorary society in education. Mrs. Holder was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, a professional teacher’s sorority. She came to Poplar Bluff in 1945 as a teacher in the Old Mark Twain School. Forty-one years of service were completed, These schools included New Mark Twain, Oak Grove, Kinyon and Lake Road. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the local and state retirement organizations. Mrs. Holder was a member of the First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff and a member of the Poplar Bluff Senior Citizenship Club. She enjoyed traveling.

On June 11, 1945, she was married to Merrell O. Holder who preceded her in death on April 26, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William Bryan and Clellie (Ellington) Rowland; and brother, George W. Rowland.

Mrs. Holder is survived by two nieces, Leesa Rowland of New York City and Karen Rowland of Sweden; special friends and caregivers, Carroll and Margaret Odom of Poplar Bluff; and special friends, Bill and Rosalie Jones of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Monday, March 16th in the Chapel with the Rev. John Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pocahontas.

Phyllis K. Roark, age 62, of Paragould passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at her home.

She was born September 3, 1946 at Paragould, the daughter of Charles F. and M. Jeanette Hendrickson. She retired from Proctor Hospital at Peoria, IL.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles, an infant brother, and two husbands, Clarence L. Price and Francis Roark.

She is survived by one son, Kevin and wife Christy Hendrickson of Paragould; one daughter, Kelly and David Brantley of Zebulon, N.C.; her mother, Jeanette Hendrickson of Paragould; three grandchildren, Brian and Katelyn Hendrickson and Holly Brantley; two brothers, Ronald Hendrickson and Randal and Bonnie Hendrickson of Paragould; three sisters, Janythe and George Hall, Deidra and David McClanahan of Sarasota, FL., and Brenda and Hal W. Brock of Sterling Heights, MI. and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Kimberly Michelle Gaston Smith, age 39, of Paragould passed away Friday, March 13, 2009.

She was born November 25, 1969, at Porterville, CA., the daughter of Alicia and Buck Markum, and Rick and Susan Gaston.
A member of the Paragould Christian Church, Kim was a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend to all who knew her.

Kim’s favorite Bible verse: Phillippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Kim is survived by her husband, David Keith Smith; two children, Kobi Michelle Smith and Sean David Smith of Paragould; three sisters and their families, Andrea and Phillip Campbell and their two children, Brooke York and Mason Campbell of Paragould, Amy and Nevada Smith and their three children, Kade Smith, Keagan Smith, and Allie Beth Smith of Kennett, and Mica Gibson and her children, Levi Gibson and Emily Gibson of Brookland; her father and mother in-law, Dave and Jan Smith of Paragould; her sister in-law and her family, Kristie and Scott Cole and their two children, Kiana Cole and Gage Cole of Paragould; and her brother in-law, Kent Smith and his daughter, Kourtney Lloyd of Paragould.

Preceding her in death were her grandfathers, Bill Gaston and Wink Gaskill; her great-grandfather, Richard “Dick” Gaston; her grandmother, Amelia Jones; and her great-aunt, Mary Ruth Melrose.

James Robert Wells, age 85, of Paragould passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at his residence.

Born August 7, 1923, Mr. Wells was the retired owner-operator of Wells Trucking and Gravel, a World War II veteran and a member of Grace United General Baptist Church.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; son, Jackie; granddaughter, Nicole Sapp; parents, John Wesley and Sarah Loretta McClure Wells; brothers, Carl, John and Charles Wells; and sisters, Juanita Smith, Alene Wells, Mary Beal and Velma Patterson.

William Hughlen "Berl" Lamb, age 82 of Paragould, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Rector, AR. He was born on November 5, 1926 in Walcott, AR.
Mr. Lamb was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was the form owner of Lamb Auto Sales and a member of the 7th and Mueller Church of Christ.

Survivors include; his wife Frances Lamb of the home, one son; Danny Lamb of Paragould, one daughter; Lauran Mitchell of Paragould, six grandchildren; Matthew and his wife Cindy Lamb of Dallas, TX., Jeremy Lamb, MO., Nikki Lamb both of St. Louis, Steven Lamb, Miranda Lamb and Sarah Lamb all of Paragould, three great grandchildren; Justin Lamb of Dallas, Elijah Lamb of St. Louis and Emily Lamb of Dallas.

Mr. Lamb was preceded in death by his parents; Ezra and Minnie Lamb, one son; Randy Lamb, one brother; Gene Lamb, two sisters; Demondra Blackwood and Mathel Elliott.

Doyle "Wayne" Smith
 


Doyle “Wayne” Smith, of Edinburg, TX., beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2009. He was born Oct. 19, 1944, in Paragould. He met the love of his life, Marjorie Ann Bruton, in Corpus Christi and married her on June 3, 1966.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lillian Smith.

Surviving him are the love of his life, Margie; Betsy, the 1964 Ford Galaxy XL convertible he bought to impress Margie for their first date; three beautiful daughters, De’Anna Smith of Austin, Marcy Sear of Arlington and Wendee Murphy, and son-in-law David, of Spring Branch; two grandchildren, Corbin Wayne Murphy and Conner Thomas Murphy; two sisters, Barbara Matthews, and brother-in-law Bruce, of Portland and Kaye Johnson, and brother-in-law Dean, of White Hall; and too many friends to mention.

He graduated from Carroll High School in 1962 in Corpus Christi, TX., after graduating from A&I in Kingsville, he moved his family to Greenville where he began his career in management with Haggar Slacks. After several relocations across Texas, the family settled in Edinburg in 1979.

Wayne owned and operated a clothing manufacturing business before beginning a new career in insurance. He worked with Marburger-Holt and Truckers Valley Insurance Providers Insurance Companies.

Alvin Donald Wells

 

Alvin Donald Wells, age 72, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Southcrest Hospital in Tulsa, OK after a long illness.
Mr. Wells was born September 30, 1936 in Leachville, AR to parents Sam and Maggie Wells.

A decorated veteran of twenty years in the United States Air Force with two tours in Vietnam, he then retired after 15 years with the United States Postal Service, serving as president of the NE Ark Chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union. He was a past member of the Arkansas Masons, Paragould Lodge #386 and was a tireless volunteer caretaker for the Cardwell Cemetery in Cardwell, MO. An avid hunter and fisherman, he never missed an opportunity to wet a hook and also enjoyed tinkering with all things mechanical and electrical.

He is survived by sons, Danny Wells of Nixa, MO, Sergeant First Class Andrew Wells currently stationed at Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, AK and Alex Wells of Paragould, AR,; daughter Camela Stevens of Paragould, AR,; grandchildren David, Adam, Jessie and Joshua; brothers, the Reverend Bernell Wells of McEwen, TN and Alfred Wells of Tulsa, OK; a sister Margaret Noel of Arnold, MO; a special friend Edith Mosely of Paragould, AR and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Orville, Marvin, Henry, J. C., Bob and Gary; and sisters: Pansy Sifford, Opal Higgins, Dorothy Gatlin and Mary Vanatta.

Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Heath Funeral Home.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm, at the Heath Colonial Chapel. Internment with full military honors will follow the memorial service at Cardwell Cemetery in Cardwell, MO.

Marjorie M. Clements
 


Marjorie Martin Clements, age 96, of Lakeside Drive, Blairsville, GA., passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Clements was born on June 11, 1912, at Paragould, the daughter of the late John Logan Martin and the late Dixie Adams Martin. She and her husband owned and operated Clements Jewelry in Jonesboro for more than 36 years.

She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and was very active in the church choir. After moving to Blairsville she became a member of Mountain Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wiley Clements, in 1974; and by a brother, John Harold Martin.

Surviving Mrs. Clements are one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Mays of Blairsville; three grandchildren, Bill and Debbie Mays of Atlanta, Evelyn and Charlie Cleary of Chesapeake City, MD., and David and Katy Mays of Lakewood, CO.; and five great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Paul Telecki, Jonathan Daniel, Jennifer Cleary, Sara Mays and Jack Mays. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services were Sunday in Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Travis Adams officiating.

Interment and graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25th at the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Emil Williams officiating.

The family will meet with friends in Gregg Funeral Home at Jonesboro from 11:00 a.m. until (12:00) noon Wednesday.

Georgia Ann Cobb, age 61 of Paragould passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis.
Born August 25, 1947, Georgia was a former employee of Darling Store Fixtures and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Eula Smith Cobb; son, Sammy K. Huffman; brother, Sam Cobb and sister, Mary Lou Gibbs.
Survivors include her companion and partner of 13 years, Sam Williams of Paragould; brothers, Robert Cobb of Paragould, Bill Cobb of Franklin, IN., and Leroy Cobb of Marmaduke, AR., sister Betty Barton of Salinas, CA., and granddaughter, Kimberly Vinson of Ravenden, AR.

Betty Lou Holder
 


Betty Lou Hibbard Holder, age 85, of Paragould passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center, Jonesboro.

Born July 15, 1923, in the Bloomer community in Sebastian County, she was the daughter of William N. and Mattie Lee Larimore Hibbard. She was raised in Walnut Ridge, where she attended school and lived until 1962, when she moved to Paragould.

She was a homemaker and retired secretary and bookkeeper at Paragould High School. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She married Darrell Holder in 1942; he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, C. Richard Holder and Ben Holder, both of Paragould; two brothers, Bill Hibbard of O’Kean and Leon Hibbard of Walnut Ridge; four grandchildren, John Holder, Alan Holder, Kerie Martin and Valerie Holder; and a great-grandson, Devin Holder.

Services will be held at 7th and Mueller Church of Christ at Paragould at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 24th with Larry McFadden as the officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Cemetery at Walnut Ridge under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday in the church.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Miller; two daughters, Tina Nedril Nix and Donna Sears; three sons, Brice Wayne Southard, Nathan Arnold Hanna and Gary Lee Hanna; two sisters; two brothers; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the Church of God at Marked Tree.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30th in the church. Burial will follow in Tyronza Cemetery under the direction of Wilson’s Tyronza Funeral Home.

Born November 6, 1964, Sandra Jean Case, age 44, of Paragould passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
Sandra was a Matron at the Greene County Sheriff's Department, a Christian and a member of the 3rd Avenue Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard W. Pruett.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Case of the home, daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Nathan Reimo0ld of San Diego, CA., Cassie and Joshua Roberts of Fairborn, OH and Cassandra L. Case of Paragould, her mother, Sudie Pruett of Paragould, sisters, Yvonne Everett and Trina Gossett both of Paragould and granddaughter, Chloe Roberts of Fairborn, OH.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home.

Jackie Ray Scott, Sr., age 58, of Paragould, passed away March 20, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. Born June 12, 1950 in Amory, MS., he was a factory worker and was of the Pentecostal faith.

James J. Garner

 

James J. Garner, age 85 of Pocahontas, formerly of Paragould, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Garner was born October 7, 1923, he was a retired supervisor for TRW Cinch in Pocahontas, a farmer, and his family was named the Greene County Farm Family of the Year in 1965. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Ann Garner and his parents, James E. and Gladys Rogers Garner.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Mae Barnhill Garner of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, James H. and Jeanine Garner of Marchiasport, ME., Larry G. and Brenda Garner of Manila, AR., Gary Michael and Gail Garner of Millport, AL., and Randy G. and Robyn Garner of Doniphan, MO., daughter, Joan C. Pruitt of Maumelle, AR, sisters, Valicia Cloyes and Geraldine Hicklin both of Paragould. Ten grand children and 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Judith Delores Damron, age 69 of Paragould passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Belle Meade Nursing Center. Judith was born September 12, 1939.
A retired waitress for Waffle House she was of the Nazarene belief.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Fannie Maude Daniel Knight, daughter, Katrina Cronan, son, Timothy Costley and several sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Ollie Damron of the home, daughter, Jayda James of Covington, GA., son, John Guerin of W.V., step-daughter, Debra McCall of Paragould; and step-son, David Damron of Beech Grove, brother, George Knight of Wehahitchkaifi, FL., sisters, Alice Stash of Carolton, GA., Patsy Cordell of Chatanooga, TN, and Jane Baldwin of Franklin, TN., grandchildren, Mindy and Justin of Covington, GA., Tracey, Sherry and Angela of Georgia, Tim and Shawn of N.Y., Shandell of N.D., Danyell and Shania of Beech Grove, Jesse, Dalton, and Nick of Paragould; 15 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

Eugene Wesley Hoggard
 


Eugene Wesley Hoggard, age 73, of Paragould passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Greene Acres Nursing Center.

Born November 11, 1935, at Manila, he was a retired car dealer, an Army veteran of the Korean War and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by one son, Barry Eugene Hoggard of New York City; one daughter, Joan Kay Jennings of GA., four brothers, James Hoggard of St. Louis, Louis Hoggard of Powhatan, Ray Hoggard of Paragould, Gary Hoggard of Russellville; four sisters, Jessie Strickland of Red Bay, AL., Geneva Tatum of Germantown, and Ann Stevens and Wanda Miller both of Paragould; two grandchildren; and by one great grandchild.


Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 25th at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery.

John Elvis Perry
 



John Elvis Perry, age 80, of Bono, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born June 19, 1928 in Greene County the son of the late L. W. and Evy Zella May Proffer Perry. He was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Elvis was a Korean War Army veteran and retired from L A Darling after 20 years.

Survivors include one sister, Frances Covington Cox of Bono and brothers: Elwood Perry of Muskegon, MI, Andrew Perry of Cave City, and Earl Perry of Walnut Ridge and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 27th at the Heath Colonial Chapel.
Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Walter Thomas Childers, age 77, formerly of Paragould, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at the Jonesboro Healthcare Center.
Born November 3, 1931, Mr. Childers was a retired railroad worker and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by one son, James Wren of Paragould; two daughters, Carolyn Williams of Ravenden, Nina Cluck of Paragould; six grandchildren; and by two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Edith Childers; one daughter, Connie Stiener; and a foster brother, Marcus Spain.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 26th, at Shiloh Cemetery with Charles Abanathy officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m., Thursday.

Charles Clifford "Junior" Howard, Jr. age 81, of Wilson, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at St Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, AR. Charlie was a musician playing at the Reynold's Park Dance for 15 years and also was a bus driver for the Senior Bees.

He was born March 7, 1928 in Paragould the son of the late Charles Clifford, Sr. and Della Lee Edwards Howard. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Christine Howard, children, Debbie Blankenship and Danny Howard, grandchildren, Kristy Clayton and Greg Howard, and sisters, Barbara Stevens and Wanda Howard.
He is survived by his wife: Ruby Howard of the home; sons and daughters-in-law: David & Judy Howard and Jim & Belinda Howard all of Paragould; stepdaughter: Barbara Worsham; step son-in-law and step daughter-in-law: Danny and Jeanie Fortner all of Keiser; sisters: Maxine Lawson and Thelma Pickney; brother: Glen Howard all of Paragould; 11 Grand Children and 18 Great-Grand Children.

Lester William Cline, age 96, of Paragould passed away Friday, March 27, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born April 17, 1912, at Stanford, he was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of Warren’s Chapel Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Cullen Cline of the home, one granddaughter, Shelly and her husband Craig Tarry of Paragould; two great grandchildren, Jessica Tarry of Washington, OK., and Jacob Tarry of Paragould; and one son-in-law, Don Orick of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Lillie Gramling Cline, and one daughter, Terry Orick.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in Warren’s Chapel Methodist Church with the Revs. Sam Stewart and Marion Gramling officiating. Burial will be in Warren’s Chapel Cemetery under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 this evening at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Corvil Loretta Sims
 


Corvil Loretta Sims, age 95, of Monette, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Monette Manor.

She was born April 13, 1913, at Red Onion, to the late John and Della Hollis and lived her lifetime in the Monette area as a homemaker. She was a member of the Happy Corner Assembly of God and attended the Monette Assembly of God. Mrs. Sims enjoyed quilting, her flower garden, visiting and helping others. She loved her family and going to church.

Survivors include five nieces, Doris Marshall of St. Peters, MO., Margaret Jo Marshall of Auburn, AL., and Shirley Hollis, Reba Flanrey and Donna Sue Martin, all of Paragould; four nephews, John Hollis of Three Oaks, MI., Ron Hollis of Orrville, AL., and Vernon Sims and Jerry Don Sims, both of Paragould; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thebert Sims; a daughter, Reba Irene Sims; three brothers, Norvil “Jupper” Hollis, Jim Hollis and John “Big Boy” Hollis; a sister; and a nephew, Harold Sims.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 30th in the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel at Monette with the Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Woods Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Monday until time of service at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Eugene Leech, Harold Kenneth Leech, Hershel Leech, Ron Hollis, Wayne Marshall and Bobby Peel.

Johnny V. Mullins
 


Johnny V. Mullins, age 44, of Marysville, KS., lost his life Saturday, March 28, 2009, in a boating accident near Madill, OK.
Johnny was born August 6, 1964, at Paragould, the son of Frankie DeWayne and Glenda West Mullins
He married Tami Whitlinger, November 24, 2003, at Marietta.

Survivors include his wife Tami of Marysville; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnathan and Jennifer Mullins; a daughter and son, Samantha Mullins and Jesse Mullins, both of Soloman, KS.; two grandchildren Colby Mullins and Madelynne Mullins, both of TX.; two stepchildren, Terra and Patrick of Marysville; his mother, Glenda Mullins of Paragould; his brother and sister-in-law, Robbie and Heather Mullins of Paragould; his niece, Taylor Mullins of Paragould; his grandfather, Robert West; and several aunts and uncles.
He is also survived by Robert Gossett and Maydean Gossett whom he considered his dad and grandma.


He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Cora Mae West, and grandparents Willie and Gladys Mullins

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 2nd, at the American Legion Club, Marysville.
The Rev. Larry Parrish, retired chaplain, will officiate.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening.

Pallbearers will be Dan Buck, Eric Heisermann, Eric Grubbs, Tom Regan, Richard Kyle, Greg Crumbly, Connie Tryon, Mike Maschmeier and Bruce Maschmeier.

Burial will be in Marysville City Cemetery.

He was quality assurance inspector for the A-Team at Fort Riley. He was NBC sergeant for Alpha battery, 2nd 130th Field Artillery. During 2004-2005 he deployed to Iraq.

He was a volunteer on the Marysville Fire Department since 2003. He was a charter member and treasurer of the American Legion Post No. 163 Riders and the Kansas Patriot Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to his children’s educational fund and sent in care of the mortuary.

Marie Clifton, age 48, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Skill Care Nursing Home in Jonesboro.

Marie was born December 26, 1960, to Harvey and Brenda Mayfield in Paragould.

Mary Marie Burpo
 


Mary Marie Millikin Burpo, age 95, of Paragould passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

She was born October 23, 1913, the daughter of the late Jacob and Sally Ward Millikin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Mark Burpo; two sisters; and three brothers.

She was the owner, operator and bookkeeper for Cache Lake Grocery Store and DX Oil Co. and was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Jim Groning of Corning, and Doris Jean and Don Yates of Searcy; grandchildren and their spouses, Krista and Charles Underwood, Kathie Ashby, Andy Davidson, Rudy and Dekoka Davidson, Myra and Dent Burks, David and Venus Bowers; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many friends.

The family will have private services at Heath Funeral Home and private burial in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Zola Cornelia (Martin) Cole age 99, of Paragould, was called to Heaven Sunday March 29, 2009. She was born May 24, 1909, in Harrison and lived in Paragould most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her only child, John Lee Cole; her parents, John E. and Effie (Wilkins) Martin; three brothers, infant Ralph Martin of Paragould, Joseph Martin of San Bernardino, CA., and John Martin of Tiff City, MO.; four sisters, Edna Marie Peak of Jonesboro, Effie Grace Tippitt of Flint, MI., Clara Isbell of Independence, MO., and Juanita Guffey of Paragould; and one nephew, Elvin Lee Isbell of MO.
Local survivors include nephew, Wayne Seats, nieces and nephews-in-law, Seva (Morris) Jeter, Charlene (Futrell) and Richard Peel; Claudine (Futrell) Abbott; Christene (Futrell) Allison; and Zola’s special nephew-in-law. “her boy” Roger Allison all of Paragould.

Other surviving nieces and nephews are, Vicki Jordan, Althea Smith, Maurice Isbell, Albert Isbell, Twila Ingram, Harvey Martin, Herman Martin , Harold Martin, Joyce Manes, Pamela Higinbotham, Kathryn Sutton, Diane Martin, John Martin and Kenneth Tippitt.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the First Church of God in Paragould

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 31st at the First Church of God, where she was a member for 90 plus years, with Rev. Kevin Edgar officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The burial will follow at Finch Cemetery near Paragould.

William Marvin Lovelady

 

William Marvin “Bill” Lovelady, age 80, of Marmaduke, passed away March 30, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born September 25, 1928 in Beech Grove, he was a retired security guard for the Defense Mapping and Charting Center in St. Louis, served as a Sergeant in the Korean War, and was a member of the Newton Street Church of Christ.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Sandy Lovelady of Kokomo, IN., and Steven and Tammy Lovelady of OR., one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Joe Sawyer of Marmaduke; one brother, Joe Lovelady of Florissant, MO., one sister-in-law, Shirley Baldwin and her husband Leon of Marmaduke, and by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Lovelady and Stella Lovelady, his wife, Sylvia Lovelady, and three brothers, Milburn, Melvin, and Marcus Lovelady.

Services will be held Friday, April 3rd, at 1:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with L. R. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Nima Jean Bowden
 



Nima Jean Bowden, age 81, of Rector passed away March 31, 2009. at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

Jean was born September 28, 1927, in Paragould to the late Clyde and Myrtle (Noel) Johnson.

She was a faithful member of the Rector First Baptist Church for 50 years and worked at Ark Mo Power for over 30 years. She and her husband were also owners of the Mobil Oil Company in Rector.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Bowden, two brothers, J. W. Johnson and Delano Johnson, and two sisters, Helen Penny and Dorotha Gilliam.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Houston and Nita Bowden of Rector; one daughter and her husband, Sandra and Merle Hawkins of  Jacksonville, FL., one grandson, Cody Moore; one brother, Delbert Johnson of TX., and four sisters, Frances Petropoulos of TX., Fay Humphrey of Marion, AR., Betty Nichols and Wanda Bonney of TX.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at the First Baptist Church in Rector with Brother Ardell Polk officiating. Interment, Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the Irby Funeral Home.
