Mae Bell Miller



Mrs. Mae Miller, 72, of Jonesboro died Thursday, June 1, 2006, in Baptist Memorial Hospital at Memphis. She was born June 6, 1934.

She was an avid artist, painter and quilt maker. She spent most of her life in St. Charles, Ill., working as an employee at B.F. Goodrich for 15 years before moving to Jonesboro four years ago.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jake Miller of the home; two sons, Ken Mabry of the home and Jimmy Miller of Murrieta, Calif.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Gene and Carolyn Jones and Norene Brown, all of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Michael Mabry and Tony Gibson, both of Bloomingdale, Ill., Stephanie Mabry of Crystal Lake, Ill., Danny Miller, Steven Miller and Lauren Miller, all of Murrieta, and Maria Gibson of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, N.T. and Lena Brown; two sisters, Norvis Holland and Millie Gilmore; and two brothers, Waymond Brown and Bill Brown.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with R.W. Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Clarks Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Barry Jones, Tim Jones, Michael Cole, James Foster, Monroe Bunch and Larry Fortenberry.

Herbert L Smith


 
Herbert L. Smith, 72, of Paragould, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born August 12, 1933, in the Finch Community, Greene County, Mr. Smith was a retired maintenance supervisor for Greene County Tech School District and a lifetime farmer. He was a member of the Commissary Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Smith of the home; two sons, Bill Smith and Mark Faulkner, both of Paragould; three daughters, Jeanette Smith of Sheridan, and Darlene Kent and Sherry Faulkner, both of Paragould. He is also survived by two brothers, George Smith and Doris Mack Smith; four sisters, Anna Boozer, Earline Boling, and Shirley Crabtree, all of Paragould, Sue Romine of Rector; nine grandchildren, Daniel Bassett, B. J. Smith, Zach Kent, Clint Bassett, John Roger Gray, Andrea Moore, Jordan Smith, Amanda Gray, and Morgan Faulkner; and by three great grandchildren, Alissa Moore, Lindsay and Kaley Bassett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hill and Adella Smith; two brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 3rd, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Art Smith and L. R. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Finch Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 noon until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Robert Edmond Grooms



Robert Edmond Grooms, 81, of Paragould died June 3, 2006, at his home.

Born May 29, 1925, at Happy Corner, Arkansas, he was a retired custodian for Greene County Tech and a member of the First Assembly of God.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Delois Grooms of Paragould; a daughter, Ruby Morgan of Booneville; a sister, Vonda Stankey of Drummond, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Marsha Eldridge, Joey Grooms, Glenn Grooms, Tony Swindle, Debbie Hollis and Tammy Pelkey; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Edith Grooms; his wife, Ruth Nettie Grooms; three brothers; and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Mitchell Funeral Home with the Rev. William Allen Piercy officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tony Swindle, Alex Sanders, David Henn, Jeff Eldridge, Arin Swindle, Eddie Pelkey and Joey Grooms.

Oinga Jones

 

Oinga Jones, 89, of Paragould, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Southridge Village Nursing & Rehab, Heber Springs. Born July 30, 1916, in Childress, Mrs. Jones was a retired housekeeper for Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and a member of West View Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Tammy Jones of Heber Springs, Jerry and Marilyn Jones of Memphis; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Bradley of Heber Springs, and Carolyn and Michael Stephens of Rogers. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman “Jake” Jones; her parents, Roy and Anor Winfrey; one son, Jimmy, one daughter, Rebecca; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 7th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Ronnie Winn officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Charles Edward Sims Jr.



Charles Edward Sims Jr., 45, of Lafe passed away June 6, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Sims of Lafe; two daughters, Crystal Hood and Carrie Sims, both of Lafe; mother, Ann Flanery Jackson of Oak Grove; father, Charles Sims Sr. of Lafe; one brother, Mike Sims of Lafe; two sisters, Kim Roush of Lafe and Angie Oliver of Paragould; one grandson, Broxton Hood of Lafe; several nieces and nephews; one stepbrother and two stepsisters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Sims.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today in Ermert Funeral Home at Corning.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in New Life Family Church at Knobel with Gary Halcomb officiating.

Interment will follow in the Providence Life Cemetery in Lafe.

William Carl Romines



William Carl Romines, 84, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1921, in Eleven Point, Randolph County, Arkansas, he married Dorothy Lucille Parker on December 11, 1943. During World War II, Mr. Romines served in the Third Army under the command of General George Patton. He was awarded four bronze stars for battles and campaigns in Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and Northern France.
After the war, he moved to Advance, Missouri, where he was in the café business. Later he moved to Trumann and worked twenty years as parts manager at International Harvester Company. While living in Trumann, he served on the City Council and as an elder for the Viva Drive Church of Christ.
In 1970, Mr. Romines became the parts manager for Fry Equipment Company, retiring in 1983. While in Piggott, he was a member of the South Thornton Street Church of Christ.
He moved to Paragould in 1994, and was a member of Union Central Church of Christ.
Mr. Romines was preceded in death by his parents, William Clifford and Pearl Haas Romines; and by two brothers, Buddy and Harold Romines.
Mr. Romines is survived by his wife, Dorothy Romines of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Tammy Romines of Bono, and Michael and Ellen Romines of Stafford, Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Johnnie Johnson of Searcy, and Merry and John Paskel of Paragould. He is also survived by two brothers, Eugene Romines of Clinton, Arkansas, and Hurman Romines of Doe Run, Missouri; one sister, Virginia Murphy of Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren, Rachel and Norman Bryant, Jonathon Johnson, Tiffany Romines, Kristina Romines, Alyssa and Caila Paskel; and by two great grandchildren, Avery and Chloe Bryant.
Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Saturday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M., Sunday, June 11th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Evan Smith and Kenny Vangilder officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Media Harget



Media Harget, age 84, of Cave City died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the Cave City Nursing Home in Cave City.

She was born Dec. 20, 1921, at Paragould to Emerson and Isabel Robinson Winn. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will begin Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City. Burial will follow in the Maxville Cemetery located north of Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation will be Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Knoble Sims



Knoble Dean Sims, 85, of Paragould died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

He was born March 3, 1921, in Greene County to the late Otis Dan and Evalou Hyde Sims. He served his country during World War II as a medical technician in the Army and was retired from Emerson Electric Manufacturing at Paragould.

Knoble is also preceded in death by a brother, Tom Sims, and sister, Annabell Turner.

Survivors include sons, Dan Sims of Paragould and Kenneth Sims of St. Joseph, Mich.; a stepson, Jack Wallace of Benton Harbor, Mich.; sister, Aliceteen Sims of Paragould; grandchildren, Chris, Amy and Noel Sims; and great-grandchildren, Spencer Sims and Holly and Zach Lockwitz.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Pine Knot Cemetery with Gene Wood officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Chunn, Larry Potter, Gary McFarland, Perry Denham, Mark Denham and Jeremy Denham.

Ruby Walters



Ruby Frances Beatrice Walters, 86, of Paragould died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was born April 24, 1920, in Greene County, the daughter of the late Neal Summers and Edna Lee Summers Groves. She was retired from Emerson Electric Manufacturing at Paragould and was a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.

Ruby is also preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Earl Walters; one daughter, Joyce Kee; a grandson, Jason Bolton; and sisters, Opal Summers and Margie Devorak.

Survivors include her daughter, Lois Thompson of Paragould; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ross and Jo Ellen Hicks and Dennis and Joyce Goldsmith, all of Paragould; stepdaughters and stepson-in law, Gilda and Norman Maynard of Cordova, Tenn., and Judy and Charley Wordlow of Whitehaven, Tenn.; brothers and sister-in-law, Bob and Betty Summers of Cattlettsburg, Ky., and Onis Summers of Paragould; grandchildren, Cheryl Ward, Sue Merath, Tammy Berry, Joey Hicks, Stacy Higgins, Kim Wineland, Debby Cross, Pam Watkins, Rick Watkins, Richard Goldsmith and Keith Maynard; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Terry Songer officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

Estel Lee Johnson



Mr. Estel Lee Johnson, 59, of Paragould, formerly of Cardwell, Mo., died Friday, June 9, 2006 at his home.

Born September 20, 1946 at Cardwell, he was the son of the late Sidney and Virgie Winn Johnson and had been a Paragould resident for more than 20 years.

He was retired from the Dana Corp. in Paragould and was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda Anita Johnson, one year ago.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Rebecca Johnson of Marmaduke; his daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Joey Potter of Paragould; his brother and sister-in-law, Virgel and Mary Faye Johnson of Cardwell; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with Bishop D.G. Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Leachville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jack Sipes, Larry Lewis, Carlis Remington, Johnny Jack McDaniel, Ray Noel and Jim Hammon.

Curtis Eugene Stanfill



Curtis Eugene Stanfill, 49, of Marmaduke died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Mr. Stanfill was born on Aug. 6, 1956, in Greene County. He was a former factory worker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Jody Stanfill and Jason Stanfill, both of Paragould; his mother, Vonda Stanfill of Paragould; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Janet Stanfill of Edinburg, Texas, Winston and Beckey Stanfill of Paragould, and Frankie Stanfill and Beverly Wells of Paragould; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha Glover, Sharon and Richard Horne, all of Paragould, and Mary and Bob Patterson of Jonesboro; his fiancee, Lavanda Newsom of Marmaduke; her son, Joshua Newsom of Warrensburg, Mo.; her daughter, Dannielle Newsom of Marmaduke; and several of his nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stanfill was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Floyd Stanfill; and a sister, Elizabeth Joan Stanfill.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould with Terry Songer officiating. Burial will follow in the Lulu Cemetery.

Lilburn Taylor



Lilburn Hershel Taylor passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter in St. Louis on Friday, June 9, 2006, at the age of 97 years and 10 months.

Mr. Taylor was born Aug. 5, 1908, on the farm just north of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church near Paragould, which was the home of his maternal grandparents. His parents were William Cornelius (Neil) Taylor and Effie Rogers Taylor.

He grew up in the Childress community and there married Henrietta Clark in 1931. To this union two daughters were born, LaNell Barnes and Nancy Enoch. He spent most of his life as a farmer. He was a longtime resident of the Childress community before coming to the Jonesboro area.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Clark Taylor; two brothers, Maurice Taylor and Burdette Taylor; and three sisters, Arleta Taylor, Lucille Braden and Fannye Waters.

He is survived by his two daughters, LaNell Barnes of St. Louis and Nancy Enoch of Little Rock; five grandsons; five great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where he served as a deacon and a member of the choir. All who knew him will miss his graceful and gentle Christian character, his genuine open friendship and his ever-ready humor and wit.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5-7 tonight at Emerson Funeral Home.

Iva Burrow Willcockson



Iva Burrow Willcockson, 93, of Jonesboro died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Craighead Nursing Center.

Born in Lorado, she lived in the Jonesboro area most of her life and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She retired as manager of the Jonesboro Country Club Pro Shop.

Survivors include a sister, Cora Pratt of Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Willcockson; and parents, Mack and Roxie Holmes Burrow.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lorado Cemetery with Robert Gunnels officiating.

Pallbearers include Donald Coleman, Lonnie Roberts Sr., Keith Baker, Ernest Coleman, David Watkins, Lonnie Roberts Jr. and Elmo Mayhan.

Eugene Copeland



Eugene Copeland, 87, of Paragould, was born October 9, 1918, in Greene County and passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Mr. Copeland is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Copeland; four sons and their wives, James Albert and Betty Jean Copeland of Marmaduke, Raymond and Lois Copeland, Bryant and Kathy Copeland, and SFC Ronnie and Cynthia Copeland, all of Paragould. He is also survived by three daughters and their husbands, Roxie and Laymon Ellis of Lafe, Dora and James Smith of Oak Grove Heights, Diane and Jim Partin of Lafayette, Tennessee; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mabel Rattler of St. Louis, Tina and George Smith and Frankie Mae and Lavernin Russom, all of Paragould; twenty-five grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Carrie Copeland; and by two brothers, Bud and Delbert Copeland.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Copeland was a farmer and retired dragline operator. He was a member of Stonewall Baptist Church, and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and was an avid duck hunter. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Funeral service will be 2:00 P. M., Wednesday, June 14th, at Providence Baptist Church with Everett Isom officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery.
Mark Smith, Mike Garred, DeWayne Ellis, Raymond Copeland, Matt Copeland and SFC Ronnie Copeland will serve as pallbearers. Gerald Ellis, Richard Ellis, Greg Ellis, Ray Copeland, Steve Copeland, James Partin, Mike Murphy, Anita McClard, R.N., SFC Stacy Caughlin, Brittany Copeland and Jeff Copeland will be honorary pallbearers.

Tyler Wayne Russell, age 9 months, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He is survived by his parents, William “Shorty” Russell and Tammie Russell of Paragould; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Myrtle Cline of Paragould; paternal great-grandmother, Thelma Russell, and paternal grandparents, William and Hattie Russell, all of Koshkonong, MO; and two sisters, Brittney Russell and Jessica Russell, both of the home.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 14 from 5-8 p.m., with funeral services Thursday, June 15 at 10 a.m., at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould, with Phil Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery, north of Pocahontas.

Dustin Dewayne Russell



Dustin Dewayne Russell, age 3, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

He is survived by his parents, William “Shorty” Russell and Tammie Russell of Paragould; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Myrtle Cline of Paragould; paternal great-grandmother, Thelma Russell, and paternal grandparents, William and Hattie Russell, all of Koshkonong, MO; and two sisters, Brittney Russell and Jessica Russell, both of the home.

Michael Costa Moniz



Michael Costa Moniz, age 77, of Paragould, passed away June 12, 2006 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces Airborne, and was a member of Paragould Church.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Nance Moniz of the home; one sister, Dottie Robillard and her husband Victor of Somerset, MA; and 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Manuelle Costa; and two sisters, Mary Costa and Emily Costa.

His body will be cremated, and a memorial service will be announced at a later date by the family. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Woodrow Cooper




Carl Woodrow Cooper, 62, of Paragould, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born July 18, 1943, in Rector, he was a carpenter and of the Baptist faith.

 
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Cooper of Paragould; one daughter, Suzie Cooper; two brothers, James Cooper of Paragould and Bobby Cooper of California. He is also survived by four sisters, Helen Moore of Almo, Kentucky, Joan Totty of Seminole, Oklahoma, Patsy Thomas of Sacramento, California, and Martha Cooper of Oregon; and by two nephews, John Anthony Gallo and Johnny Cooper, both of Paragould.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Nora Cooper; and by one brother, Frank Cooper

Funeral services will be private under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. No visitation is scheduled.

James M. Haynes



James M. Haynes, 43, of Black Rock died June 12, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

Mr. Haynes was united in marriage to Donna Lea Goff.

Mr. Haynes is survived by one son, James Haynes; three daughters, Kristian, Kassandra and Kaitlyn Haynes, all of the home; and one brother, Mr. David Haynes of Albuquerque, N.M.

Mr. Haynes will be cremated with local arrangements under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.

Elbert J. VanDon



Mr. Elbert J. VanDon, 73, born April 4, 1933, in Monette, died early Monday morning, June 12, 2006, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Mr. VanDon was preceded in death by his father, Telfar Isaiah VanDon, and his loving wife of 50 years, Ethel Lee VanDon. Today would have been their 54th wedding anniversary, and also his late wife's birthday.

Survivors include his mother, Monia VanDon; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Travis and Carol VanDon, Stacey VanDon, Chad VanDon, and Nash VanDon of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lena and David Quail, and Olivia and Terry Parks, all of Paragould; two grandsons, Travis Isaiah VanDon and Justin David Quail; one granddaughter, Tera Jane Parks; one great-grandson, Ethan Lee VanDon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Pat VanDon, and Freddy and Angelina VanDon; a sister and a brother-in-law, Helen and Don Andrews; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Winford Walters officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Wednesday.

Nicholas Braxton Harbarugh, infant son of Nathan and Jamie Harbarugh of Paragould, was born and died June 13, 2006 at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Christian Harbarugh of the home; maternal grandparents, Nickey and Tammy Woods of Paragould, great-grandparents, Bill & Betty Easley, Kenny and Shirley Christ, and Jimmy and Shirley Woods, all of Paragould; paternal grandmother, Gina Harbarugh of Paragould, and great-grandmother, Ilene May of Gosnell, AR; one aunt, Tiffany Woods, and one uncle, Dylan McDermott, both of Paragould.

Funeral services will Tuesday, June 20 at 10 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Tidwell officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship Cemetery in Paragould. Pallbearers will be Dylan McDermott and Marc Duncan.

Peggy Webster



Peggy Webster, 76, of the Light community died June 13, 2006 at her residence.

Born March 21, 1930, in Jonesboro, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Webster; her parents, Alvin and Mabel McDonald; four brothers; and her in-laws.

A rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. today in Higginbotham's Chapel in Walnut Ridge. Visitation will follow from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Paragould. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott.

Lawrence Hester




Lawrence Hester, 95, formerly of Marmaduke, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born December 7, 1910, in Walcott, Mr. Hester was a retired self-employed radio and television repairman. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Marmaduke.


Survivors include his wife, Eliza Ann Hester of Paragould; seven sons, Jim Hester of Marmaduke, Tom Hester, John Hester, “Bo” Jethro Hester, Joe Hester and Paul Hester, all of Paragould, and Darrell Hester of Birmingham, Alabama. He is also survived by three daughters, Elnora Dowdy of Paragould, Cora Bullinger of Lafe, and Reatha Morgan of Marmaduke; seventeen grandchildren; and by sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Onilee Hester; three brothers, Joe, Halley and Donald Hester; and by two sisters, Valora Hester and Mary Waldrum.


The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 17th, at First Baptist Church, Marmaduke, with Laramie LeQuieu officiating. Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time.

Floyd Junior Parkinson



Floyd Junior Parkinson, 78, of Paragould, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Born February 28, 1928, in Greene County, he retired after twenty-seven years in the Army and Marine Corps. Mr. Parkinson also retired from the US Postal Service and was a member of the Church of Christ.

 
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Parkinson of the home; one son, Floyd Parkinson, Jr. of McKinney, Texas; three daughters, Mary Jane Womack of Honduras, Joann Mueller of Ogden, Utah, and Karen Swanson of Portland, Oregon; and two stepsons, J. D. Stephenson of Paragould, and Mike Stephenson of Brookland. He is also survived by two brothers, Weldon Parkinson of Jonesboro, and Gene Parkinson of Paragould; and by eleven grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Virlous and Flossie Parkinson; two brothers, Billy Joe Parkinson, and Harold Parkinson; and by one sister, Geraldine Parkinson.


Memorial services will be Sunday, June 18th, 3:00 P. M., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Bob Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Donald Glen Johnston, Sr., 80, of Paragould, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born April 7, 1926, in Goobertown, Mr. Johnston was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired dump truck driver for the Arkansas Highway Department. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Goobertown.


Survivors include his wife, Patsy Johnston of the home; two sons, Donald Glen Johnston, Jr. of Lebanon, Missouri, Terry Winn Johnston and wife, Kim, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by one daughter, Ruth Ann Thieman and husband, Dave, of Lebanon, Missouri. He is also survived by two brothers, James Edward Johnston of Jonesboro, and Benny Johnston of Kirkwood, Missouri; five sisters, Marguerite Johnston, Clara Johnston, and Stella Johnston, all of Goobertown, Elmarie Herweck of St. Charles, Missouri, and Cornelia Ogles of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren; and by four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lydia Johnston; one daughter, Joy Johnston; two sisters, Almeria Herman and Naomi Johnston; and by three brothers, George Shirley Johnston, Gerald Johnston and Ronald Winn Johnston.


Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 19th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Larry Ring and Fred Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Sunday, at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Carol Susan Kremers, 60, of Paragould died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at her residence.

She was born Oct. 27, 1945, in Pocahontas to Vitus and Catherine Barr.

Kremers.

Glenda Faye (Mills) Lovely, 72, of the Paragould Nursing Center died Saturday, June 17, 2006, in Paragould.
She was born May 4, 1934, in Rector to the late Loyd Alvin Mills and Rosie Lee (Adams) Mills. She was employed by Emerson Electric and was a member of Grace United General Baptist Church in Paragould.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, Delbert Patterson, in May 1981, and two brothers, James Mills and Doyle Mills.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ann (Patterson) and Sam Presley of Paragould; one son, Danny Patterson of Paragould; three grandchildren, Amber and Paul Boyd of Bella Vista, Dylan and Traci Presley of Santa Teresa, N.M., and Brooke Patterson of Paragould; four great-grandchildren, Dominic Presley, Emma Ann Presley, Sebastian Presley and Bryson Patterson; four brothers, Leroy Mills and Melvin Mills of Rector, Kenneth Mills of Piggott and Rickey Mills of Paragould, and two sisters, Debra Conway and Diann Walker of Rector.

Sheree Danielle Ewald, 33, of Hoxie, died June 18, 2006, at her home.
Born Oct. 23, 1972, in Luxton, La., she was the daughter of Junius D. and Shirley Futrell. She was a homemaker and was a member of The Church.


Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Ewald; two daughters, Christian Brooke Turner and Anna Marie Trout, both of Hoxie; two sisters, Anita Futrell and Janet Futrell, both of Paragould; and a brother, James Futrell, Paragould.

Jimmy V. Fielder



Jimmy V. Fielder, 72, of Marmaduke, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Marmaduke.
Born July 15, 1933, in Paragould to the late Meryle and Beatrice Fielder, he was retired from the military, having served in Vietnam. He had worked for Smoot Mobile Homes.


He also was preceded in death by one sister, Venneta Higgins.


Survivors include his wife, Sharon K. Vowell Fielder of Marmaduke; one son, Terry V. Fielder of Marmaduke; one daughter, Tammy Seay of Paragould; three brothers, Bill Fielder of Rector, Jackie Fielder of Mayflower and Bobby Fielder of Florida; one sister, Nancy Ball of Springfield, Mo., and three grandchildren, Joshua Fielder, Jimmy V. Fielder and Cody V. Fielder.

Daisy Lorene Juanita Gilliam, 60, of Paragould died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was employed at Wal-Mart Bakery and was a member of the First Church Of God.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Kenneth Gilliam; parents, Jewell Cornelius Sr. and Mary Alice Baker; brother, Jewell Cornelius Baker Jr.; and sister, Helen Owens.

Survivors include daughters, Charlotte Ann Utley and Melissa Darlene Wayer of Paragould; sons, James David Gilliam of Paragould and Dennis Wayne Gilliam of Independence, Mo.; sister, Bernice Baker of Paragould; brother, William Baker of Jonesboro; and 13 grandchildren.

Hattie Cline



Hattie Cline, 95, of Paragould died Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Paragould Nursing Center in Paragould.

She was born June 12, 1911, in Franklin, AR., the daughter of late Lum and Elizabeth McAnally.

She has gone to be with her husband, Maxie Revill Cline, whom she married on Nov. 26, 1928, and her two daughters, Elizabeth Douglas and Nita June Baldwin.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Louise and J. Williamson of Rockford, Ill.; sons and daughter-in-law, Levi C. Cline of Mountain Home, Conard Cline of Calico Rock and Jack and Caline Cline of Paragould; 27 grandchildren, 47 great- grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Narine Simpson of Paragould and Bertha McAnally of Franklin.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Her life will be celebrated Wednesday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 tonight at Heath Funeral Home.

Iwanda Imogene Layne


Iwanda Imogene Layne, 80, of Jonesboro died Monday, June 19, 2006 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born October 24, 1925 , in Paragould, Mrs. Layne lived most of her life in Jonesboro.

She was retired from Frolic Footwear with 30 years of service and was a Baptist.

Mrs. Layne was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Layne; a great-grandson, Trey Haney; four sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include a son, Ronnie D. Layne of Jonesboro; three daughters, Gloria Grisham, Karen Sanders and Tammy Arias, all of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Majorie Faulkner of Memphis, Stacey Haney of Hardy, Shane Minton of Jonesboro, Sarah Layne of Valley Park, Mo., and Emily Layne of Jonesboro; five great-grandchildren; and a beloved granddog, "Pooh."

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jerry Muckensturm officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Mary Elizabeth Sanford, 88, of Marmaduke, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Evergreen Health and Rehab in Rector.
Born Jan. 17, 1918, in Denver, Colo., to the late James Olson and Nellie Mae Brott Olson Cole, she was a homemaker, a longtime member of the community and a member of New Home Missionary Baptist Church.
She also was preceded in death by her step-father, Lusky Cole; her husband, Rudy E. Sanford, on July 5, 1996, and brothers, Bud, Snooks and Elmer Olson and Terry and Bruce Cole.


Survivors include four sons, Elmer and Bertis Sanford of Jonesboro, Rudy Lee and Mary Sanford of Marmaduke, Joe and Martha Sanford of St. Louis and Wesley Sanford of Paragould; two daughters, Darlene and Jerry Edwards of St. Louis and Rheta and Malcolm Carroll of Marmaduke; one sister, Colleen Anderson of St. Louis, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Marmaduke with Bro. Carl Cate and Jerry Jolly officiating. Burial was in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Rev. Russell Yarbrough



The Rev. Russell Cleveland Yarbrough, 83, of Paragould died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Memphis.

He was born July 22, 1922, in Craighead County, the son of the late Daniel Cleveland Yarbrough and Effie Ethel Randall Yarbrough Bauer. He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

He was a retired First United Methodist minister for 30 years who pastored at the Bentonville, Goshen, Pleasant Plains, Imboden, Marmaduke, Cotton Plant, Tyronza, Earl and Wilson circuits and retired in Paragould after serving at Christ United and Pruetts Chapel United Methodist Churches.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Waters Yarbrough; daughters, Debra Hill of Paragould and Mary Jo Yarbrough of Atlanta; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Joan Yarbrough, and John and Dot Bauer, all of Paragould; grandchildren, Gary Paul Smith Jr., Melody Wilson, Russell Jared Smith, Jami McElroy and Laura Smith; and five great-grandchildren.

His life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday in Shiloh Cemetery with visitation at Heath Funeral Home from 1-1:45 p.m., when the procession leaves the funeral home. The Revs. Dewey Dark and Edwin Warren will officiate.

Gary Don Holloway, 47, of Lillian, Ala., formerly of Paragould, died June 20, 2006, at his home.

He was born July 30, 1958, in Victorville, Calif., the beloved son of Melvin and Geneieve Holloway.

He is preceded in death by his father, Melvin; brother, Mike; and sister, Jo Ann.

Survivors include his mother, Geneieve Holloway of Paragould; daughters, Star and Destiny Holloway of Jonesboro; his wife, Cindy Holloway of the home; stepchildren, Shannon, Joshua and Jacob Holmes of Elberta, Ala.; brothers, Fred and Terry Holloway of Crestview, Fla., and John Holloway of Heber Springs; a sister, Linda Dike of Midwest City, Okla.; one grandchild; and many relatives and loved ones.

Joyce Lee Burr, 67, of Niles, Mich., formerly of Rector, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, in Memorial Hospital at South Bend, Ind.
She was born June 23, 1938, in Paragould to the late Everett Highfill and Audie Walker and was married Dec. 22, 1984, to Jack Burr. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, James, Danny and Harry Highfill, and one sister, Mary Sterling.


Survivors include her husband, Jack Burr; children, Danny and Sheila Leiss of Mt. Morris, Mich., Rick and Marcy Leiss of Flint, Mich., Sheila and Charles Harris of Wayland, Mich., Max Ross of Edwardsburg, Mich., Leo and Kim Ross of Niles, Mich.; stepchildren, Terry and Janie Burr of Auburn, Ky., and Lesa and Joe Morgan of Picacho, Ariz.; three sisters, Barbara and Arlos O’Dell of St. Charles, Mo., and Sharon Grubbs and Annetta Greenway, both of Piggott; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Herbert Palmer



Herbert Eugene "Gene" Palmer, age 77, of Paragould passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Palmer was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a lifetime member of VFW 2242, a member of Paragould Masonic Lodge No. 368 and of TREA. He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment, was the former owner of Freedom Lock and Key and a member of Greater Vision Ministries Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Palmer; his parents, William and Isla Palmer; one son, Richard Mason; one daughter, Bonnie Drennen; two brothers, Franklin B. and Garland; and one great-grandson, Levi Babcock.

He is survived by three sons, Steve and wife, Barbara Mason of Rogers, Charles and wife, Patty Palmer and Patrick Palmer, all of Paragould; two daughters, Leta and husband Craig Rosten and Robin Palmer, both of Paragould; one brother, Calvin Palmer of Blanchard, Idaho; one sister, Joyce Keeney of Corcoran, Calif.; extended family, Sue Mason, Paulette Gray, Jim Drennen and Kim Palmer; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 25, from 6-9 p.m. at Greater Vision Church, 1004 South Rockingchair Road in Paragould.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at the church with Bro. Rick Ethridge officiating. Burial will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens with military honors. His grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mathal Stella May, 92, of Paragould died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Stanford, AR., the daughter of the late Jodie and Myrtle Gramling. She was a retired Stanley Home Products Dealer, owner of M & M Ceramics and a member of Stanford United Methodist Church.

Mathal's husband, Carroll Thomas May, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Jodie Gramling May of Paragould and Tommie May of Jonesboro; a daughter, Mary Ellen Corthell of Horseshoe, N.C.; brother, Lewis Crowley of Florissant, Mo.; sister Floretta Fennessey of Ferguson, Mo.; grandchildren, Mark and Darren May, Allan, Jeff, Web and Tabitha Corthell; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Marion Gramling officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Warren's Chapel Cemetery.

The grandchildren will be pallbearers.

Pink Laverne Starling



Pink Laverne Starling, 77, died Friday, June 23, 2006 in Paragould Nursing Center.

He was a dedicated employee of Darling for 22 years before retirement. He lived in the Pocahontas area all his life.

He was born February 24, 1929, to the late Luther and Maggie Starling.

The mother of his children, Luevinver Starling, and a brother, Hershel Starling, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Starling; two sons, Willard Sterling and his wife, Lynn of Pocahontas and Frankie Sterling and his wife, Janice of Paragould; stepdaughter, Gloria Brock and husband, John of North Carolina; grandson, John Starling of Paragould; four granddaughters, Keisha Hazelwood and Tara Starling of Paragould, and Amber and Tina Starling of Pocahontas; three brothers, Calvin Starling of St. Joseph, Mo., Bill Starling of Pocahontas and Raymond Starling of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two sisters, Ella Hickenbottom and Joyce Grows, both of Rockford, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren of Paragould.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Lowell Graham officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sharum Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Alberta Bell



Alberta Hooper Bell, 94, of Walnut Ridge, formerly of Fontaine, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Alberta was born in Hornsby, Tenn., to William and Mary Jane Cupples Hooper on Sept. 20, 1911. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fontaine Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William A. "Bill" Lee and Shelba Jean Lee, both of Fontaine; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Alberta was preceded in death by her two husbands, Clyde Lee and Jimmy Bell; a son, David Eugene Lee; 12 brothers and sisters; two grandsons and a granddaughter and a great-great- grandson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 26, at the Langford-Bookout funeral chapel with the Rev. Marion Stringer officiating. Burial will be in the Lorado Cemetery in Lorado.

Great-grandchildren Burt Lee, Keith Lee, Shannon Lee, Chris Nelson, Bradley Nelson, Kimberly Lee and Deborah Smith will honor their great-grandmother by serving as active pallbearers.

The family will be receiving friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Willie Everett Fisher



Willie Everett Fisher, 76, of Paragould, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born Jan. 4, 1930 in Greene County, he was retired from the U.S. Air Force, had worked in the maintenance department of Greene County Tech School, and was a member of Mount Home Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Fisher of the home; three sons, Dr. William Fisher of Paragould, Dr. Timothy Mark Fisher of McMinville, Tenn., and Jeffrey Howard Fisher of Memphis; one sister, Maybelle Collins of Paragould; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 26, at 2 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Art Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Home Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Juanita Mae Thompson



Juanita Mae Thompson, 92, of Wynne, formerly of Paragould, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Cross Ridge Community Hospital at Wynne.

Born May 6, 1914 at Paragould, she was retired from Emerson Electric and was a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertha Anderson, and her husband, Ted L. Thompson.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Joe Thompson of Leonard, Texas, and Kenneth Wayne Thompson of Wynne; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Linwood Cemetery.

Mildred Edith Smith



Mildred Edith Smith, 74, of Paragould died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at her home in Paragould.

She was born March 4, 1932, in Cleburne County, Arkansas, the daughter of the late John and Zula Owen Osburn. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Doug Smith of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Mike Hadwin of Belleville, Mich.; brothers and sister-in-law, Kenneth Osburn of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Frank and Kathy Osburn of Summerville, S.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Carroll Gibson of Paragould, Fleda and Ben Shearer of Heber Springs, Betty and John Billington of Statesville, N.C., Wynona and Tom Thompson of Georgetown, Texas, and Patsy and Glen Francis of Paragould; three grandchildren, Scott Martin, Justin Hall and Elizabeth Patterson; four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Wava Hammond of Paragould; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Judon Chandler; daughter, Carla Patterson; son, Steven Chandler; and an infant brother.

Her life will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. today in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Royce Schanda officiating.

Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Ignatius Paul (Nace) Abell


Ignatius Paul (Nace) Abell, 82, died June 24, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Paragould, to the late Emanuel and Ella Pike Abell. He was a retired maintenance engineer and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a Third Degree Knights of Columbus and of the Catholic Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John, and a sister, Ella Martin.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Abell of Las Vegas; three daughters, Cecilia Thomas of Pahrump, Nev., Cynthia Martin of Carson City, Nev., and Debra Aflleje of Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; five brothers, Burt of Indianapolis, Ind., J.P of Wickenburg, Ariz., Pike of Titusville, Fla., Frank of Raleigh, N.C., and Wayne of Paragould; a sister, Mary Young of Mobile, Ala., and many nieces and nephews

Burial will be Thursday, June 29, in Las Vegas.

Jimmie Robert Travillian


Jimmie Robert Travillian, 77, of Rector died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Born July 13, 1928, in Rector to the late Robert Newton Travillian and Lula (Edwards) Travillian, he was a service man and meter reader for the Clay County Rural Water Association. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Hitts Chapel General Baptist Church.
He was married April 2, 1953, to Ella Mae (Turner) Travillian, who preceded him in death Feb. 23, 1990. He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Benjamin Vangilder in 1988; two brothers, Doyne Dewayne Travillian and Garlan Doyle Travillian, and one sister, Geraldine Beal.


Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Ann Travillian of Rector; one daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Alvin Vangilder of Rector; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Amy, Josh and Sarah; five great-grandchildren, Patrick, Skye, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Zoe, and three sisters, Neva Mowery of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Martene Davis of Rector and Lorene Garewood of Kennett.


Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Charles Richardson and Bro. Shawn Parker officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Donald Mowery, Jerry Beal, Tony Gatewood, Jack Travillian, Danny Burkheart and Mike Jetton. Honorary pallbearers were James Dale, James Vangilder, Wayne Pruett, Burl Haley, Leroy Gatlin and Linuel Tate.

Tommy David Matthews



Tommy David Matthews, 51, of Paragould, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Paragould. He was born May 11, 1951, at Imboden. He was a veteran and worked as a welder at American Railcar Industries in Paragould.

He is survived by his parents, Ancel and Lucille Matthews of Imboden; a son, Kevin Matthews of Blytheville; three daughters, Rachel Kelly of Smithville, Jennifer Matthews of Blytheville, and Jessica Earls of Ocala, Fla.; three sisters, Susan Taylor of Smithville, Ann Sutton of Pocahontas, and Cindy Price of Imboden; and three grandchildren, Kaylegh Earls, Maya Matthews and Fallon Firmansjah.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services are Thursday, June 29 at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Higginbotham Funeral Services in Walnut Ridge. Burial will be at Smithville Cemetery under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Services, Walnut Ridge.

Ruth Williams



Ruth Williams, 94, of Paragould died Sunday, June 25, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born Jan. 29, 1912, at Monette, and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Williams was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arvil Pruitt; her second husband, Ewell Williams; and two sons, T. J. Pruitt and Vernon Pruitt.

Survivors include eight grandchildren, Rickie Pruitt of Marmaduke, Ruth Kimbrough, Randy Pruitt, Regina Lemmons, Rhenda Carter and Teresa Wisby, all of Paragould, Tewane Pruitt and Bennie Pruitt, both of Oklahoma. She is also survived by 29 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel at Paragould with Rhenda Carter officiating.

Burial will follow in Corning Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday in Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Rickie Pruitt, Randy Pruitt, Chris Hicks, Mark Carter, Macon Lemmons and Blake Nunn.

Leon Claud Forbs



Leon Claud Forbs, 77, of Paragould died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He was born July 7, 1928, in Leachville, the son of the late Claud and Lorene Reed Forbs. His work history included farm work, factory, sawmill and he also worked for the Sanitation Department and Delta Asphalt in Paragould.

He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Forbs Pearson; a grandson, Colby Leon "Lee" Forbs; brothers, Larry, Ernest and Elmer Forbs; and sisters, Edith and Esther Forbs.

Survivors include his wife, Bert Forbs of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Deb Forbs of Rector, Donnie and Glenda Forbs of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Bruce and Brenda Forbs of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Rick and Tina Forbs of Walcott and Alan and Debbie Forbs of Holcomb, Mo.; brothers, Danny, Lester and Johnny Forbs of Paragould and James Forbs of Florida; sisters, Lucille Edwards of Paragould, Shirley Alsup of Marmaduke, Christine Howard of Cardwell, Mo., Barbara Cooper and Bonnie Morgan of Paragould; 24 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Herb Starr and Dwight Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Home Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5-9 at Heath Funeral Home.

Sons will serve as pallbearers and grandsons as honorary pallbearers.

Steven Wayne Ray



Steven Wayne Ray, 43, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 12, 1963, in San Bernadino, Calif. He worked in auto body repair and was the driver of the No. 98 car of the Ridge Runners. He won his race on Saturday, June 24, 2006, and was points leader of the Ridge Runners for the season.

He was of Protestant belief.

He is preceded in death by his father, Larry Ray; maternal grandparents, Roy and Alice Anderson; paternal grandmother, Juanita Ray Thomason; and paternal grandfather, Virgil Ray.

Survivors include one daughter, Brandi Ray; one son, Anthony Ray of Splendora, Texas; mother, Jenny Ray of Jonesboro; sister, Karen Ray Ford and her husband Tim of Paragould; brother, Tim Ray of Paragould; special companion, Cheryl Lenderman of Paragould; nieces, Rachel Churchill of Manila and Hannah Ford of Paragould; special friends, Jerry Tabor, Tasha Ward and Ronnie Cook.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Shiloh Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Kato officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 tonight in Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Roswell, Keith Roswell, Tim Ford, Grayson Simpson, Joe Poteet, and Bill Laymon.

Gerald Wesley Davis




Mr. Gerald Wesley Davis, age 57, of Scott City, Missouri, died Wednesday, June 28 at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock. Born in Lafe, he was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed in the transportation industry. He was a member of the Scott City Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Davis, and one daughter, Ashley Davis, both of the home; one brother, Phillip Davis, and one sister, Joan Scott, both of Paragould; and his mother, Alma Davis of Oak Grove Heights. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Edward Davis.

Visitation will be Friday evening, June 30, from 6-9 p.m., at Phillips Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Cecil Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Burn Unit.
