Hazel Marie Jackson Claxton



Hazel Marie Jackson Claxton, 89, of Paragould died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at her residence.

Born in Marmaduke, she was a nursing home owner and a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Ray Claxton of Cherokee Village; five daughters, Martha Dean Robertson of Gladewater, Texas, Deloris McElroy of Sherwood, Verneda Claxton of Paragould, Barbara Gross of Wesley, Fla., and Merlene Mullins of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merval Edward Claxton; her parents, John Pointer and Nora Allen Walters Jackson; five brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Irby Funeral Home chapel of Marmaduke. Burial will follow at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Alice Fielder



Mary Alice Fielder, 65, of West Memphis, formerly of Rector, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.

Born in Rector, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Rex D. Fielder of the home; one son, Brent Fielder of Olive Branch, Miss.; one daughter, Ivy Fielder of Memphis; three brothers, Bob Cooper of Marion, Edmond Cooper of Olive Branch and Jery Cooper of Tumbling Shoals; and four grandchildren, Anna Fielder, Jacob Fielder, Robert Gallarno and Joseph Fielder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lura Holifield Cooper.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, with Charles Bishop officiating. Irby Funeral Service of Rector is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 4:30-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joan Luke



Joan Luke, 60, of Paragould died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, she was a teacher at Greene County Tech for 32 years and a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Luke of the home; two sons, Shannon Luke of Paragould and Shawn Luke of Lakeland, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Colin Luke and Carley Luke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mable Robertson, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brown's Chapel Baptist Church, with Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Bill McCreless, Don Russell, Leland Stanfill, Tim Hufford, Richard Payne, Leonard Hill, James Clark and Harold Cupp.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Randal Roe

 
James Randal "Randy" Roe, 53, of Southaven, MS, formerly of Houghton, La., died Monday, June 2, 2003. at Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis.

Born in Paragould, he was a graduate of Crowley's Ridge Academy and Crowley's Ridge College. He was a computer network specialist who worked for Federal Express and a member of Goodman Road Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Foster Roe of the home; two sons, Chris Roe and Craig Roe, both of Birmingham, Ala.; one daughter, Lola Acklin of the home; his mother, Lois Fielder of Jonesboro; his father, James Albert Roe of Southaven; one brother, Ron Roe of Jonesboro; and his stepgrandmother, Modena Jernigan of Virginia Beach, Va.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bill Fielder, and one brother.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro, with John Billingsley and Tom Moore officiating. Burial will be private.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sherrell Lawhon, Ron Roe, Robert Utley, Derrick Foster, David Foster, Chad Sudbury and Allen McCallie.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mildred Belle Cobbs


Mildred Belle Cobbs, 81, of Paragould, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Sharp County, she was a retired factory worker for Monroe Auto Equipment and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, David Cobbs of Paragould and Charles Robert Cobbs of Huntsville, Ala.; four daughters, Catherine Wright and Barbara Stevens, both of Paragould, Marquita Robbs of Canton, Ohio, and Rhonda Cobbs of Arlington, Texas; five sisters, Sybil White of Jonesboro, Marie Qualls of Lake City, Hildred Wineland of Kansas City, Mo., Mary Blodgett of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jamie Shough of Belleville, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Boyd Cobbs; her parents, Charlie and Gertrude Taylor Milligan; and three brothers.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Grayden Milligan and Jim Bynum officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Robert Cobbs, Kerry Stevens, Kelly Stevens, Jeff Hobbs, Josh Hobbs and Robert George.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joyce Brady

Joyce Brady, 63, of Walnut Ridge died Thursday, June 5, 2003,  at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born near Walnut Ridge, she was a lifetime resident of the Walnut Ridge area. She was a cook at Big Al's and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one sister, Opal Witcher of Paragould; and one brother, Carl Brady of Holt, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Henry and Dona Brady, and by four brothers.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott, with Sam Stuart officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Alvin Webbe, Glen Maple, Ross Rainwater, Gregg Brady, Fred Flemmon and Mark Creel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Brown and Brice Brown.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at House-Gregg Funeral Home at Walnut Ridge.

Elsie Irene Eaton

Elsie Irene Eaton, 87, of Paragould died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Pocahontas, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include five sons, Bill Eaton and Richard Eaton, both of Paragould, Bobby Eaton of Dallas, Texas, Randal Eaton of Little Rock and Ronald Eaton of Jonesboro; five daughters, Donna Coggins of Jackson, Miss., Holly Eaton of Dallas, Irene Harbin of Jonesboro and Patricia Mangrum and Terrie West, both of Paragould; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oatis Eaton; one daughter, Tessie Sue Eaton; her parents, James and Mary Elizabeth Walls Asher; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with Bob Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Browns Chapel at Paragould.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lorene Hill

Lorene Hill, 80, of Paragould died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Greene County, she was a member of Alexander Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Amos Hill of the home; one son, Ronnie Hill of Paragould; one brother, Charles Edward Hill of Mobile, Ala.; two grandchildren, Kellie Hill and Steven Hill; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Mae Hill; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould with Phillip Bynum and Wade Drury officiating. Burial will follow in Reddick Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Camp, Charles Evans, E.J. Lorren, John Bontempo, Tommy Hester and Wade Drury.

Travis Eugene Kemp

Travis Eugene "Gene" Kemp, 73, of Paragould died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Trumann, he was a self-employed mechanic and a member of the Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Jovene Kemp of Paragould; two sons, Donnie Kemp and Lonnie Kemp, both of Jonesboro; three daughters, Bonnie Baird of Walcott, Connie Grimes of Light and Rebecca Kemp of Bay; five sisters, Patricia Bailey and Glenevee Walker, both of Light, Ernestine Boyd of Corning, June McBride of Rockford, Ill., and Clesta Roberts of Granite City, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Rose Neal Kemp; two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with Paul McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Paragould.

Maude Ellen Amick

Maude Ellen Amick, 86, of Paragould died Saturday, June 7, 2003,  at Paragould Nursing Center.

Born in Randolph County, she was a homemaker and a member of the New Bethel Church of Christ.

Survivors include four sons, Leon Amick of Mountain View, Dean Amick and Bobby Joe Amick, both of Jonesboro, and Jesse Amick of Paragould; four daughters, Rosemary Farmer of Lafe, Norma Gean Holland of Bald Knob, Dian Potter of Oak Grove and Patsy Singleton of Marmaduke; two brothers, Vernon Haus and Lavon Haus, both of California; 27 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Heff Haus and Addie Cambell; her husband, Sam Amick; one sister; and one brother.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Liberty Cemetery with Lonnie Pyle officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jason Amick, Leslie Roland, Billy Wooten, John Johnson, John Hampton and DeWayne Potter.

Reba Beatrice Duff

Reba Beatrice Duff, 89, of Paragould died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Ozark County, Mo., she was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Duff of Hardy and Douglas Duff of Paragould; four daughters, Melba Tharnsburry, Elounda Baldwin and Billie Jean Stanfield, all of St. Louis, and Betty Riley of Montgomery, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Duff, and her parents.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel with the Revs. Junior Vester and Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Linda Louise Justus

Linda Louise Justus, 48, of Stonewall died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her residence.

Born at Iaeger, W.Va., she was a nurse's aide, an employee of Anchor Packaging and a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John L. Justus of Stonewall; two sons, John Johnson of Marmaduke and Randy Johnson of Paragould; her parents, Allen Thornsberry of Shiloh, Ohio, and Annaray Jackson of Hurley, Va.; one brother, Keith Thornsberry of Glenoma, Wash.; two sisters, Connie Dotson and Darlene Thornsberry, both of Yoncalla, Ore.; and five grandchildren, Isaac Johnson, Logan Johnson, Cody Johnson, Cheyenne Johnson and Madison Johnson.

Lawrence Strope Sr.

Funeral services for Lawrence "Mack" Strope Sr., 78, of Paragould, who died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at his residence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Finch Baptist Church, with Terry Gage and Lawrence M. Strope Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Finch Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Gary Wayne Strope Jr., Doye Bayird Jr., Kenny Hall Jr., Daniel Strope Jr., James Michael Stevens, Larry Joe Morrow Jr., Kevin Bayird and Tony Stevens.

Born in Finch, he was a World War II Army veteran, a retired used car dealer and a member of the Finch Baptist Church. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include four sons, Lawrence "Larry" M. Strope Jr. of Cherokee Village, and Gary Wayne Strope, Danny Strope and Marcus Strope, all of Paragould; five daughters, Joan A. Stevens, Judy Bayird, Pamela Gail, Donna Kay Morgan and Susie Morrow, all of Paragould; three brothers, Junior Strope, Donald Strope and Jerry Strope, all of Paragould; one sister, Louise Dennington of Paragould; 21 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Mae Strope; his parents, Walter and Mid Strope; and one brother.

Graveside services for Virginia "Mar Mar" White, 94, of Paragould who died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Linwood Mausoleum.

The Rev. Scott Neathery will officiate. Heath Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Faribault, Minn., she was a homemaker and a member of the Delmar Baptist Church in St. Louis.

Survivors include one son, Kaut White of Paragould; four grandchildren, Gina Jarrett of Paragould, William Kaut of Jonesboro and David White and Sharon Dibble, both of Mountain Home; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed White Jr., her parents and one brother.

Carrie D. Damron

Carrie D. Damron, 65, of Lafe died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Rector, he was in the Army for 40 years, serving two tours in Vietnam, had worked in civil service and as a hotel manager. He was of the Church of Christ belief.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Suga Damron of the home; a son, Thomas Damron of Schweinfurt, Germany; two daughters, Carolyn Damron of Schweinfurt and Jalisa Damron of the home; his mother, Eloise McClure Damron of Flint, Mich.; two brothers, Jimmy D. Damron of Rector and Terry Lee Damron of Dallas; and six sisters, Peggy Langston, Marilyn Smith, Carolyn Florida, Joyce Coon and Debbie Arnd, all of Flint, and Betty Hill of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Damron, and a brother.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Rector, with Truman Wycoff officiating. Irby Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A private visitation has been planned.

Randall Gene Dennis

Randall Gene Dennis, 59, of Paragould died Monday, June 9, 2003,  at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge.

Born in Walcott, he was a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Dennis of the home; one son, Rickey Dennis of Paragould; three daughters, Tammy Brady of Marmaduke, Derhonda Lindsay of Virginia Beach, Va., and Debbie Snyder of Gainesville; one brother, Wendell Dennis of Walcott; one sister, Juanita Dennis of Walcott; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Alma Melton Dennis.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel in Paragould, with the Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott.

Virgil L. Chipman

Virgil L. "Doty" Chipman, 72, of Paragould died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in the VA Medical Center in Memphis.

He was born in Ashport, Tenn., and worked at Westland Motors in Inkster, Mich., as a motorcycle mechanic. He served in the Navy during the Korean war and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Chipman of the home; one son, Larry D. "Pops" Chipman of Paragould; one brother, Paul Chipman of Michigan; an adopted brother, Roger Boling of Paragould; a sister, Mabel Bradley of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Shawnann Williams of Paragould, Larry Chipman Jr., and Joe Chipman, both of Ohio, John Chipman of Marmaduke and Gary Wayne Chipman and Crystal Chipman, both of Michigan; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Gary Wayne Chipman, Charlie Chipman and Johnny Mac Chipman; his parents, Charlie and Nellie Cannon Chipman; and one sister.

Cremation. No services are planned.

Connie Alvin Duke

Connie Alvin Duke, 62, of Paragould died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born at Senath, Mo., he was a member of the Marmaduke First Baptist Church and coached Southland Girls Softball and men's softball at Monroe. He worked at Monroe Auto Equipment.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Duke of the home; one son, Kevin Duke of Paragould; two daughters, Donna Duke of Cardwell, Mo., and Tonya Robinson of Paragould; three brothers, Jimmy Duke and Edward Duke, both of Paragould, and Raymond Duke of Kennett, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Danny Duke, Jeremy Duke, Christina Duke, Tyler Robinson and Caitlin Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Rosie Duke, and by one grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Marmaduke, with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Brown's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers will include Chris Duke, Roland Duke and Doug Simpson.

Mary P. Henderson, 83, of Paragould died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was born at Gainesville and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, James Larry Henderson of Paragould and Clifford Russell Cole of Troy, Mo.; one daughter, Barbara Gibbs of Paragould; three brothers, Arthur Cole and Bob Cole, both of Paragould, and Homer Cole of Briarwood, Ill.; one sister, Lorene McFall of Rector; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Born in Bee Branch, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include her husband, David A. Ford of Lafe; one son, Earl Ray Long of Lafe; two daughters, Lula Cox of Arbyrd, Mo., and Debbie Ford of Aurora, Ill.; three sisters, Barbara Wenzel of Porterville, Calif., Judy Vanness of Viealia, Va., and Linda Arent of Lafe; and four grandchildren, Misty Cox and Shelly Cox, both of Arbyrd, Mo., Sean Quilhot and Courtney Quilhot, both of Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and William Swafford Hutto.

Born in Manila, she was a retired nurse for Paragould Doctors Clinic and a member of the Campground United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John Lynn of the home; and two sons, Steve Lynn and Greig Lynn, both of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by one son, Reggie Lynn; her parents, Cecil Sherman and Francis Savannah Freeman Reynolds; and two brothers.

C.A. Pillow, 82, of Paragould died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, he was a retired motor patrol operator for the Arkansas Highway Department. He was a member of the Brighton Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Pillow of Paragould; three sons, Bobby Pillow, Marlin Pillow and Clifton Pillow, all of Paragould; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Pillow; his parents, Addison and Edith Hebner Pillow Sr.; one brother; and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Marion Gramling officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott.

Noma E. Dollins, 87, of Paragould died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Piggott Community Hospital.

Born in Hart, she was a retired co-owner of Dollins Furniture of Paragould. She attended First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Jo Hollis of Greenway; seven grandchildren, Matt Hollis, David Hollis, Luke Hollis, Michael Hollis, Jeannie Boling, Laura Dollins and Cindy Rhoades; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalma May Dollins; two sons, Danny Dollins and Jimmy Dollins; and her parents, D.L. Smith and Tommy Reeves.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. David Mosley and Jeff Rainwater officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Matt Hollis, David Hollis, Luke Hollis, Michael Hollis, Chris Boling, Dan Boling, John Stevens and Todd Rhoades.

Honorary pallbearers will include Kyle Hollis, Jake Hollis, Johnearl Hollis, Tyler Cook, Ty Haney and Addison Boling.

Visitation will be from 6:30-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Esther M. Letbetter, 79, of Marmaduke died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas.

Born in Clay County, she was a homemaker and a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Sonney of San Antonio; two sons, Jack Cooper of South Lyon, Mich., and Ronnie Cooper of San Antonio; two sisters, Ava Hatch of South Lyon and Bernice Maltbie of Marmaduke; eight grandchildren, Susan Ramirez, Michael Sonney, Angie Dorais, Marty Cooper, Brad Cooper, Karen Kossing, Shawn Cooper and Brian Cooper; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas "Red" Cooper and Berl Letbetter, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Marmaduke First Baptist Church, with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke under the direction of Irby Funeral Service in Marmaduke.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Graveside services for Addie Jean Dunn, 91, of Paragould, who died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Senath, Mo., Nursing Center, have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Jeff Rainwater will officiate, and Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Andy Stickler, Brent Reddick and Justin Killian.

Born in Poplar Bluff, Mo., she was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ belief.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Stickler of Paragould; two grandchildren, Andy Stickler and Laura Stickler, both of Paragould; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Dunn, her parents, two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

Jane Schug Campbell Honen

Jane Schug Campbell Honen, 69, of Paragould, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at her home.

Born in Paragould, she was a 1952 Paragould High School graduate who completed studies at the University of Tennessee Medical Units-Memphis School of X-Ray in 1957. She was a 20-year employee of Memphis Orthopedic Group and retired from Memphis Clinic of Internal Medicine.

Honen moved to Paragould after retirement and was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Church Council. She was active in United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Paul V. Honen of the home; a daughter, Margaret Griffith of Memphis; a brother, John M. Bryant of Memphis; and a granddaughter, Chloe Elisabeth Griffith of Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Eula McDaniel Schug, and one sister.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Paragould at 1 p.m. Sunday. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the roof fund of First United Methodist or to the Paragould Children's Homes.

Raymond Curtis Gibson

Raymond Curtis Gibson, 90, of Paragould died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Greene County, he was retired from the Greene County Road Department and was a farmer and a member of Alexander Baptist Church.

Survivors include seven sons, John R. Gibson of Wild Rose, Wis., Jimmy C. Gibson of Seymour, Mo., Max Elmore Gibson of Oak Creek, Wis., and Harry Curtis Gibson, Glenn Darrell Gibson, Tony Michael Gibson and Howard Ray Gibson, all of Marmaduke; one daughter, Anna Christine Huckabay of Marmaduke; one sister, Chalmas Ray of Detroit; 24 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Gibson; his parents, Levi and Maud Gibson; two sons, Jeff Davis Gibson and Phillip Wayne Gibson; one brother; two half-sisters; and two grandsons.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould, with Conley Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Finch Cemetery.

Sons will serve as pallbearers, and grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Juanita May DeMent Stewart

Juanita May DeMent Stewart, 65, of Paragould died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Cardwell, Mo., she was a manager of the former Value Outlet Store, a sales clerk at Belk's and a member of First Assembly of God.

Survivors include two sons, John Stewart of Paragould and Boyce Stewart of Gomez Palacio, Mexico; one daughter, Lola Jackson of Paragould; four brothers, Raymond DeMent of Bartlesville, Okla., Don DeMent of Monroe, Va., Dale DeMent of Mountain Home and Glenn DeMent of Riverside, Calif.; six sisters, Loretta Bresler of Malibu, Calif., Faye Williams of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Regina Southard of Pine Grove, Calif., Reba DeMent Best of Kapaa, Hawaii, Zelda Ingle of Sacramento, Calif., and Iris DeMent of Kansas City, Mo.; her stepmother, Mae DeMent of Fair Oaks, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Stewart; her parents, Patrick Shaw DeMent and Lola Rhee DeVoll DeMent; and three brothers.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Leland DeMent officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pearl Allene Tyner Combs, 85, of Paragould died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Marmaduke, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include two sons, Dewayne Combs and Jim Combs, both of Paragould; a daughter, Carol Hester of Paragould; seven grandchildren, Rodney Combs, Sean Combs, Terry Combs, Julie Farmer, Stephanie Hester, Whitney Hester and Brandon Rose; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tas Combs; her parents, Robert and Ada May Tyner; three brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Jolly and the Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in New Liberty Cemetery at Marmaduke.

Ruth Nettie Grooms, 75, of Paragould died Saturday, June 21,2003,  at her residence.

Born in Craighead County, she was a retired custodian for Greene County Tech School District and a member of First Assembly of God, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 35 years.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Grooms of Paragould; one son, Bobby Grooms of Paragould; her mother, Gracie Pearl Grooms of Leachville; three brothers, Gaylon Piercy of Lake City, William Piercy of Monette and Layman Piercy of West Helena; one sister, Jewell Ann Rolland of Leachville; three grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Piercy; one brother; one sister; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services for Edna N. Coln, 76, of Paragould, formerly of Flint, Mich., who died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel. The Rev. James Frey will officiate, and burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould.

McKenzie Starr Glover, 1, of Paragould died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born in Paragould.

Survivors include her parents, Bobbie Carlene Glover and Anthony Wayne Glover, both of Paragould; one sister, McCarthey Lenon Glover of Paragould; two stepsisters, Jordan Shipman and Taylor Shipman, both of Delaplaine; her maternal grandparents, Perry and Vickie Noel of Paragould; and her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Glover of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather.

Evelyn Virginia Graham Kissinger

Evelyn Virginia Graham Kissinger, 70, of Paragould died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at her residence.

Born in Pocahontas, Tenn., she moved to Blytheville in 1933 and had worked as a cook for Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Batey of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Karen Annette Batey of Paragould; four sisters, Cora Covington of Torrance, Calif., Dorothy Odom of Memphis, Louise Dickerson of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Mary Richardson of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three grandchildren, Jeremy Jon Batey of Tulsa and Candice Michele Edgin Brinkley and Kevan Daniel Leake, both of Paragould; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Batey; her second husband, Boyce Kissinger; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould, with Jerry Batey officiating.

No visitation has been planned.

Jimmie Dale Dollins Sr., 62, of Paragould died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Greene County, he served in the Marines, was a construction worker and of the Church of Christ belief.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmie Dollins Jr. of Paragould, Scott Dollins of Festus, Mo., and Ronnie Dollins of Potosi, Mo.; his mother, Tennie Prince of Paragould; two brothers, Gaylon Dollins and Gary Prince, both of Paragould; 11 grandchildren, Amy Dollins and Scottie A. He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Dollins; his stepfather, Donald Prince; a brother; and a stepbrother.

Deborah Lynn Phillips Griggs, 42, of Ravenden died Friday, June 27, 2003, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Funeral services for Catherine Lynette McClure, 70, of Marmaduke, who died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at her home, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paragould, with the Rev. John Marconi officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Born in Paragould, she worked as a clerk for the U.S. government most of her life and also worked as a clerk for Sears. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bill McClure of Marmaduke; three sons, Bill Blasko and John McClure, both of Marmaduke, and Kevin McClure of Paragould; four daughters, Ann Miller and Mary Younis, both of Marmaduke, Lisa Hunt and Teresa Morgan, both of Paragould, and Sarah McDaniel of Gulfport, Miss.; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William John Blasko; her parents, Martin Omer and Vera Phipps Raley; two sisters; two brothers; and two grandsons.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home followed by visitation from 7:30-9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School.

Elvis Clyde Rodgers



Elvis Clyde Rodgers, 76, of Rector died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Marmaduke. A member of the Disabled American Veterans, he was in the Army for 26 years and fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the General Baptist Church and was employed by Bolen Security.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rodgers of the home; one son, David Rodgers of Rector; two daughters, Cynthia Tabor and Pamela Steed, both of Rector; and two granddaughters, Amanda Steed of St. Louis and Faith Steed of Rector.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Rodgers and Susan Robinson Rodgers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Irby Funeral Home in Rector. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel near Marmaduke with military personnel serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Howard C. Wooldridge



Howard C. Wooldridge, 80, of Paragould died Saturday, June 28, 2003, in the Paragould Nursing Center.

He was born in Walnut Ridge and was a retired heavy equipment operator for Greene County. He was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Newton Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one stepson, Glenus Forrester of Paragould; one stepdaughter, Charlette Warmble of Marion; three brothers, Jennings Wooldridge of St. Louis, Jerry Joe Wooldridge of Festus, Mo., and Billy Wooldridge of Hemphill, Texas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joye Wooldridge; his parents, Lehman and Lura Wooldridge; and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould, with L.R. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be men from Newton Street Church of Christ.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Gilbertia Helen Marie Brewer



Gilbertia Helen Marie Brewer, 79, of Paragould died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Leachville, she was retired from Emerson Electric and was a member of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Brewer of the home; one son, Mickey Brewer of Paragould; three daughters, Brenda Archer of Kansas City, Mo., and Darlene Maxwell and Shelia Brewer, both of Paragould; seven grandchildren; and 10-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Nellie Butler Hahn, two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Art Smith and Rudy Ring officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery at Marmaduke.

Pallbearers will be Gary Johnson, Don Christopher, Louis Brewer, Jim Engleman, Joe Maxwell, Tom Archer and Stanley Watson.

Shirley Joan Earls, 73, of Lafe died Monday, June 30, 2003, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Cuba, Mo., she worked as a waitress and was a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Tony Lee Earls of Lafe; one brother, James F. Joste of Ellsbury, Mo.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Blaine G. Joste and Olla M. Nichols.
