Darrell Gordon Messer

 

Darrell Gordon Messer, 75 of Festus, MO. passed away Friday July 1, 2011 at Baisch Nursing Center in Desoto. Darrell was born October 8, 1935. He was of the Baptist faith and had worked in the meat packing industry.

He was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and mother of his children, Ruby Johnson Messer; son, Gary Stephen Messer and daughter, Patricia Elizabeth Messer.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Debbie Messer of Texas and Kerry and Lynn Messer of Festus, MO; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Massengill of Springfield, MO. Four grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; brother, John Dell Messer of CA; sisters, Alma Jean Kifer of Muenster, IL, Armentia (Jerry) Adams and Cleo Doris (Roy) Rush all of Jonesboro, AR.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July, 5th, 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Missions of the Southern Baptist Convention. Memorial services in Festus, MO. Friday, July 8th, 6:00 p.m. at 1st Baptist Church in Festus.

Jerry Layne Cantrell


Jerry Layne Cantrell, 61 of Paragould passed away Friday July 1, 2011 at his residence. Jerry was born July 6, 1949. He was the owner/operator of Cantrell Construction and a member of Jehovah Witnesses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ivory Hay Cantrell, son, Jerry Layne Cantrell, Jr.; brothers Elmer, Jimmy, Harold, Robert Earl and Paul Cantrell; sister, Faye Bartlett.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Cantrell of the home; sons, Allen Burns of Nashville, TN and Danny Burns of Advance, MO; daughters, Kim Finney of Farmington, MO, Cindy Delmont and Susan Vick of Paragould; brothers, Rayburn and Roger Cantrell of Elkhorn City, KY and Goebel Cantrell of Oak Hill, WV; sisters Lois And Shirley Cantrell of Elkhorn City, KY., numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Monday, July 4th, 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses with Ray Hunt officiating. No visitation is planned.

Rachel Rebecca Carter, 86 of Paragould, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Hospice House in Mountain Home, AR. She was born May 24, 1925, the daughter of William E. and Nettie A. Smithmier.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Carter; son, Frederick Dale Carter; parents; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Rita Gale and Larry McKinney of Mountain Home, AR; grandson, Brian Allen Carter of Paragould and granddaughter, Haley McKinney of Mountain Home, AR; great grandson, Christopher Carter.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6th, 11:00 a.m. until1:00 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Royce Boling officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Anna B. Brass

 
Anna B. Brass, 98, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould, Arkansas. She was born April 20, 1913, in Menard County, IL. to the late Ernest and Leona Hoagland Bast.
She married Edgar E. Brass, Jr. (Ted) in 1935. Ted preceded her in death in 1950, leaving her with two young daughters. Ann spent the majority of her life in Petersburg, IL. She worked as an administrative assistant to the superintendent of schools in Petersburg, as an administrative aide to the Constitutional Convention in Springfield, IL. as an administrative assistant in the Illinois Dept. of Ageing in Springfield. After retirement, she moved to Montvale Estates in Springfield, IL. and in 2003, she moved to Jonesboro, AR.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Dewayne) Allen of Paragould, AR., and Martha (Alan) Refkin of Ft. Meyers, FL; granddaughter, C. J. (Mark) Beck of Petersburg, IL; three grandson, Jay (Leslie) Allen of Jonesboro, AR., John Allen of Paragould, AR., and David Lynn of Chicago, IL. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Alison Jones, Cooper Beck, Parker Beck, Jessica Allen, Daniel Allen, Grace Allen, Anna Joy Allen, Mary Leigh Allen, John Allen, Jr., Jaxon Allen, Robbie Lynn, and Catie Lynn.
Her husband and two sisters, Jane Cochran and Kay Todd preceded her in death. She will be buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, IL.
Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg will be in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 210 W. Douglas, Petersburg, IL 62675 or Hope Presbyterian Church, 2211 Wabash Ave., Springfield, IL. 62704 or the charity of the givers choice.
A memorial service will be held July 17, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, Petersburg, IL. Rev. Ken Churchill will officiate. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of local arrangements.

Timothy Alan McKelvey

 

Timothy Alan McKelvey, 56 of Paragould passed away Saturday July 3, 2011 at his residence. Tim was born February 19, 1955 to Earl and Barbara McKelvey. He was of the Baptist faith and worked at L. A. Darling in Quality Assurance.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl McKelvey, brother, Jack McKelvey and nephew, Aaron Micah Barnhardt.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara McKelvey; daughter, Shannon McKelvey Ellington; son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Amy McKelvey all of Paragould, grandchildren, Dylan James McKelvey, Hannah Elizabeth McKelvey and Jonathan Dallas Pruett; sister and brother-in-law and family, Cindy, Paul, Joshua and Jordan Barnhardt; brother and sister-in-law and family, David, Kathy, Miranda and Ryan McKelvey all of Paragould.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6th, 10:00 a.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Kim Bridges officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Jimmie Dale Chastain

 

Jimmie Dale Chastain, 58, of Marmaduke passed away July 3, 2011 at his home. Born January 14, 1953 in Pocahontas, he was a farm worker.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Charletta Chastain of Marmaduke; two brothers, Bud and William Chastain, both of Pocahontas; one half brother, Jerry Chastain of Pocahontas; two sisters, LaVon Booth of Paragould, and Doris Ann Bunn of Walnut Ridge, and by two grandchildren, Clifton and Taylor Chastain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Georgia Chastain, and by one brother, Sonny Chastain.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, July 6, 10:30 a.m. at the Lake St. Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Faulkner officiating. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by Mitchell Funeral Home.

Moses Warren Atwood 

 

Moses Warren Atwood, 67, of Batesville, MS, retired pastor and long-time employee at SBEC, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 4, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents (Moses Lee and Vuler Jane Atwood), one brother (Cletus Atwood), and three sisters (Sue Queen, Loretta Remagen, and Martha Batey). A devoted family man, Moses is survived by his wife, Gladys Atwood of Batesville; daughter, Cheryl Coleman (spouse, Blaine) of Memphis; son, Tony Atwood (spouse, Tonya) of Hardy, AR; three grandchildren, Jessica Goudie (spouse, Richard) of Southaven, Mark Atwood (spouse, Lauren) of Hernando, MS and Daniel Johnson of Hardy, AR; and great granddaughter, Haley Atwood of Hernando. Moses also leaves three brothers – Raymond Atwood of Jonesboro, AR; Robert Atwood of Owosso, OK; Billy Joe Atwood of Joelton, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.

Moses was born October 21, 1943 in Paragould, AR, served in the U.S. Air Force, later moved to Flint, MI, and worked for General Motors, Buick Motor Division; returned to the mid-south and attended Mid-America Theological Seminary in Memphis and later served the Lord in area churches in Northeast Mississippi as Sunday School Teacher, Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor, Minister of Music, and Pastor. Moses touched the lives of many people with his kindness and even through his battle with cancer; he never lost faith in God’s grace. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his homecoming.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 7th, 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould, AR. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Raymond Atwood and Larry Eason officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship Cemetery.

Michael Todd Washburn



Michael Todd Washburn, 32, of Paragould, AR., passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011 in Paragould. Born July 29, 1978 in Paragould, he was the son of the late Gordon Swain and Dana Stearley Radu and was a life long area resident.
He attended the Greater Vision Pentecostal Church and the Paragould public school. Mr. Washburn was a student at Arkansas State University and was a welder at the time of his death. He liked working with computers and was an auto enthusiast.
Survivors include one son, Nicholas Cunningham of Paragould; his mother, Dana Radu of Pinetop, AZ.; two brothers, Rob Washburn of West Point, N.Y., and Paul Stine of Florence, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Gordon Swain, in 2009.

Memorial services will be Saturday, July 9th, at the Greater Vision Pentecostal Church in Paragould with Rev. Richard Etheridge officiating.

The family has requested a private disposition with Faith Funeral Service of Manila, AR., in charge of arrangements.

Haylee May Morrow
 


Haylee May Morrow, 7 weeks old, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Haylee was born May 10, 2011, in Little Rock, to Michael and Amy Morrow.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, John and Sheryl Bishop of Cardwell, Terry and Lisa Bryant of Success, and Rick and Tracey Morrow of Paragould. She is also survived by her great grandparents, Alice Bishop, Wilma and Harold Barr, all of Paragould, and Shirley Nash of Corning.

She was preceded in death by her great grandparents, Robert Bryant, Darrell Morrow, Lucy Morrow, and Maritta McKenney.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 10th, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow in Corning Cemetery.

Ruth E. Klingensmith



Ruth Eileen Klingensmith, 80, of Lorado, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.

Ruth was born September 30, 1930 in Lorado and lived most of her life there. She worked several years for Belks in Paragould and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Ruth enjoyed her flower garden, lawn work and feeding the deer and birds which gathered in her yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Klingensmith, her parents, Dr. J.D. and Nancy Dennis Blackwood, her brother and sister-in-law: Dennis and Naomi Blackwood, and her brother-in-law: Cotton Berry.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law: David and Deborah Klingensmith of Jonesboro, and Dale and Diane Klingensmith of Ft. Meyers, FL; sister, Charse Lee Berry of Conway; 5 grandchildren: C.J. Klingensmith, Justin Klingensmith, Amber Andrews, Dee Dee Klingensmith, and Tim Matlock; and 6 great grandchildren: Alexis Klingensmith, Emma Klingensmith, Abbey Andrews, Kathyln Ridge, Kylee Ridge and Kinley Matlock.

Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon, July 9th, at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Michael Blackwood officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Glen Lavon Gilmore



Glen Lavon Gilmore, 70 of Paragould, passed away Thursday July 7, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Glen was born April 6, 1941, in Marmaduke, AR. the son of the late Robert Lee and Dathel Robertson Gilmore. He was a retired farmer.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Gilmore.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Gilmore of the home; son Rick Gilmore of CA. step-sons, Frankie, Brian and Lance Juarez all of CA. and twelve grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 9th, 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Reverend Bill Leslie officiating.

Allena P. Robb, 83, formerly of Walnut Ridge, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, July 8, 2011 at Byrd Haven Nursing Home, Searcy, AR., where she had been a resident for six months.

Born February 13, 1928 in Walnut Ridge and raised in Black Rock, she was preceded in death by her parents John and Eunice Bratcher, three siblings, “Dub” Bratcher, Charles Bratcher, Richard Bratcher, husband, Woodrow Robb, Sr., and her youngest son, Terry L. Robb.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Robb of Searcy, AR., Col. Danny Robb (and wife Mary), of Honolulu, HI., Woodrow Robb, Wilburn, AR., a granddaughter Ashley Eichhorn (and husband Josh), Little Rock, AR., three grandsons, Adam Robb, Portia, AR., Kevin Robb, Dearborn, MI., Joseph Robb, Dearborn Heights, MI., one great-granddaughter, Addison Eichhorn, Little Rock, AR., and daughter-in-law Kathy Mical-Robb, Dearborn Heights, MI.

Graveside services and burial will be Saturday, July 16th, 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Walcott, AR. under the direction of Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.

Alice Lavadna Huneycutt
 


Alice Lavadna Huneycutt, 88, of Stockton, Missouri, formerly of Paragould, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Stockton Nursing Home.

Born July 20, 1923, in Walcott, Mrs. Huneycutt was a homemaker and a member of the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Jackie Huneycutt of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Mike and Mary Ann Huneycutt of Austin, Texas; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Art Row of Stockton and Lynn and Tim Hienz of Littleton, Colorado. She is also survived by two brothers, Paul Miles of Knoxville, Tennessee and Jim Miles of Little Rock; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Lillian Miles; her husband, Carl T. Huneycutt; and two brothers, Edwin Miles and Weldon Miles.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 14th, 1:30 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould with Doug Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, 12:30 p.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Jerral Blan Gilliam, 73, of Marmaduke, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Gilliam was born February 27, 1938 in Cardwell, MO., he was an Army veteran. He was a retired government repossession inspector and of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Gilliam of the home; one son, Tim Gilliam of Marmaduke; two daughters, Cindy Dowdy of Paragould, and Julie Rainwater and her husband, Allen, of Gainesville. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mona Gilliam.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 13th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Edgar Humphrey and Bill Snow officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

William Bailey, Clifton Garmath, Nick Watson, Mike Tarr, John Hood, and Henry Massey will serve as pallbearers.

Jimmy Dale Burns, Sr.



Jimmy Dale Burns, Sr., 67, of Paragould, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. He was born May 8, 1944 in Corning, AR., the son of Violet Southerly Burns and the late Frank Burns. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Kay Burns and brother, Fred Burns. Jimmy was retired from the United States Navy and was of Church of Christ belief.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Jimmy Dale, Jr. & Leticia Burns of Saint Petersburg, FL; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law: Marsha and Darrell West of Paragould; Judy and Keith Thompson of Bowling Green, KY; Malisa and Buddy Henry of Sevierville, TN; Sonya Williams of Jefferson City, TN; Tonya and Kai Haley of Newport, AR; siblings: Linda Vinson, Debbie Holman, Henry Burns, all of Corning, Ronnie Burns of Rogers, AR., Donnie Burns of Caldwell, ID., David Burns of Corning, AR., fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and fifteen nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 14th, 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel following visitation at 11:00 a.m. with Kai Haley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Ruth “Eileen” Jacot, 89, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at her home.

Born January 25, 1922 in Paragould, Mrs. Jacot formerly worked at Ely-Walker Shirt Factory, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Danny Gene Smith; one brother, Harold Justice of Paragould; one sister, Mary Justice Swafford of North Little Rock. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Trisha Ellington of Paragould; three great grandchildren, Jennifer Ellington, Maigen Massey and Allie Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Pearl Justice and Charles Eugene Justice; two brothers, Billy Gene Justice, and James Wilburn Justice; and one grandson, David Anthony Smith.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 15th, 2:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould with Eldon Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Alvin Floyd Foster, 71 of Light, passed away Wednesday July 13, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. Born October 7, 1939, Alvin was a retired farmer and an avid duck hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Floyd and Ellen Price Foster; brothers, Virgil, Paul and Lloyd Foster; sister, Velma Bowlin.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Foster of the home; sisters, Weldon Bryant of Black Rock, AR and Diann Wall of Walcott, AR.

David Wayne Hyde



David Wayne Hyde, 48, Paragould passed away Thursday July 14, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1963 the son of the late Roy and Geneva Reece Hyde. He was a disabled veteran of the US Army.

He is survived by his sisters: Sharon Couch of Paragould, Evah Highfill of Williford, Julie Montgomery of Trumann, Susie Dickerson of Paragould, brothers: Glen Andis, Ricky Hyde, Randy Hyde, Bobby Hyde all of Paragould.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of his life will be Sunday, July 17th, 4:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Bill Snow officiating.

Judy Carolyn Haner, 58, Paragould passed away Thursday July 14, 2011 at her residence. She was born October 2, 1952 in Mountain Home the daughter of Billie Price Light and the late Noel Light. She was a member of New Life Family Church and has worked at Wal-Mart and Lowe's.

She is survived by her daughters: Dawn Hill, Brandy Smith both of Paragould; Jordan Clutter of Oklahoma; Rhonda Simpson of Bay; Deborah Allen of Kennett, MO; Janet Rooney of Lake City; son: Kenneth West of Paragould; mother: Billie Price Light of Missouri; brother: Harold Ferguson of Michigan; sisters: Kim Leist of Michigan; Brenda Hood of Missouri; 17 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, July 18th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be Tuesday, July 19th, 11:00 a.m. at New Life Family Church in Knobel with Reverend Gary Holcomb officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Donna Kay Napier, 63, Paragould passed away Thursday July 14, 2011 at her residence. She was born October 20, 1947 in Paragould the daughter of the late John "Pete" and Earline Weaver Napier. She served as the Greene County Deputy Treasurer from April 1976-1978 and as the Greene County Treasurer from January 1979-December 2008. She was a member of the Greene County Democratic Women and former vice president of the Arkansas State Treasurers Association. She was the manager of the Sheltered Workshop and was also an employee at the Shirt Factory. She was a graduate of Oak Grove High School and attended ASU. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law: Gary and Scotta Napier, niece: Terri Napier, nephew and niece: Tim and Tiffany Napier, great-nephews: Reece and Canon Napier, friend: Pat Pillow all of Paragould.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be Sunday, July 17th, 2:30 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Reverends David Swift and John Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Jesse Weldon Amorine 

 

Jesse Weldon Amorine, 68, of Williamsburg, Missouri, passed away at Callaway Community Hospital Thursday, July 14, 2011. He was born June 22, 1943, in Greene County, Arkansas, the son of the late Charlie W. and Bessie Orlando (Crowley) Amorine. On August 5, 1967, he was united in marriage to Marilyn (Aubuchon) Amorine who survives at their home.

In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son, Carey Amorine and his wife, Brenda, of Clarksville, Tennessee; two daughters, Jessica Amorine of Florissant, Missouri and Rebecca Redenbeaux and her husband, Michael, of Maryland Heights, Missouri; five grandchildren, Samantha, Kirsten, Carey, Jr., Logan and Wyatt; one brother, Harold Amorine and his wife, Lucy, of Park Hill, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, one son, Timothy Amorine, one granddaughter, Alicia, one brother, Charles Amorine and three sisters, Roberta Bennett, Geneva Morrow and Eula Gatlin preceded him in death.

Jesse served in the United States Army. He was an aircraft inspector and mechanic for McDonnell Douglas – Boeing. He was a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with his family. He was an avid western movie fan and CB radio enthusiast.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 17th, 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Maupin Funeral Home www.maupinfuneralhome.com in Fulton, Missouri.

Dakota James Stafford



Dakota James Stafford, 10, of Manila, the son of Richard and Crystal Loar Stafford, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born at Blytheville, he had lived most of his life in Manila where he attended Manila Elementary School, having completed the second grade. He was looking forward to starting the third grade and enjoyed stacking cans and blocks.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, James and Lavada Dublin, Ivan Loar and Erbie Staggs; and a very loving and special great-great-grandmother, Lorene Dublin.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Cody Wayne Stafford of the home; and grandparents, Gerald and Belinda Stafford of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Ray and Susan Owens of Tuckerman, Mark and Betty Loar of Jonesboro and Eugene Staggs of Little Rock. He also leaves two great-grandmothers, Sue Loar and Billie Staggs.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 19th, 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Manila with Reverends Ferrel Duffel and Jarred Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Leachville Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Monday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville.

Claudia Sue Freeman, 71, Paragould passed away Saturday July 16, 2011 at Belle Meade Nursing Home. She was born September 23, 1939 in Paragould the daughter of the late Shirley Ellis and Rozella Jeffers Faulk. She was a retired LPN and a member of First Church of God in Paragould.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Freeman of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Karl Baioni of Somerville, TN: sons and daughters-in-law: Charles Eric and Lynda Freeman of Seligman, MO, Evan Ladd and Catina Freeman of Paragould; brother: Danny Faulk of Paragould; grandchildren: Alison Maria Palmer, Jonathan Eric Freeman, Austin Freeman, William Freeman, great-grandchildren: Alexander and Jodie Lee Palmer.

Iola Marie Wilson, 90, passed away July 16, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born June 4, 1921 in Peach Orchard to E. O. and Anna Michael. She liked to garden and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Walter Amos Wilson; a son, Roger Wilson; two sisters, Blanche Michael and Ethel Grimes; three brothers, Buster, Earl and Sterle Michael.

She is survived by three sons, Johnnie (Hazel) Wilson of Paragould, Michael (Debbie) Wilson and Paul Wilson all of Michigan; a daughter Stella Ladd of Corning; two brothers, John and Charles Michael both of Paragould; three sisters, Alma Fisher of Florida, Frances Newton of California and Sylvia Little of Michigan; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Curtis "Veton" McQuay, 81 of Paragould, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 in The Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House of Jonesboro. He was born February 15, 1930 in Egypt, AR to Curtis and Opal Johnson McQuay. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church of Lorado and a retired postal worker from the Post Office in Lancaster, CA.

Survivors are his wife, Reba Crowell McQuay, three sons, Larry and Cindy McQuay, of Lancaster, CA, Ellis and Cathy McQuay of Wichita, KS. and Terry Ballard of Trumann, AR, three daughters, Joyce McQuay, of Rogersville, TN and Jodi McQuay of Paragould, Darlene and Marvin Williams of Jonesboro, AR. sister, Joyce Barker of St. Louis, ten grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen McQuay and two brothers, Cecil McQuay and Jimmy "Othell" McQuay.

Thelma Fay Merritt Hoggard Peterson



Thelma Fay Merritt Hoggard Peterson, age 87, formerly of Paragould, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Sunday evening July 17, 2011 in Cleveland. Born April 16, 1924 Mrs. Peterson was the daughter of the late Sam and Margie Hudson Merritt.
Her husbands, Earl Hoggard, William Peterson, her brothers, Elmer, Jim, Oscar, Bob and J. B. Merritt, her son in law, Reverend David Shrable and her grand daughter, Treva Jan Shrable also preceded her in death. Mrs. Peterson was a professional seamstress for 10 years and she retired from the Kansas City, Kansas School Systems as head of the Janitorial Services. She served as an Evangelist and preached for many years. Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Wings of Faith Church of God in Ocala, Florida.

Survivors include her daughter, Earlene Hoggard Shrable of Ocala, Florida, her son, Marvin Hoggard and his wife Doris of Paragould, Arkansas, her 8 grandchildren, her 26 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren, her sisters, Alma Bailey and her husband Arnold of Flint, Michigan, Dorothy Williams from Clio, Michigan and several nieces and nephews also survive. The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Thursday afternoon, July 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Pastor Rocky Shrable, Pastor Ryan Shrable, Pastor Kelvin Page and Pastor James Bancroft.

Pansy Wilene (Howe) Harrison 71, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of the Lafe community, passed away Sunday July 17, 2011. Ms. Harrison was born February 4, 1940 to the late Wiley and Esther (Smith) Howe in Lafe, AR. She was retired from the Kelly Air Force Base.

Pansy was preceded in death by her parents; Wiley and Esther (Smith) Howe, and one brother; Melvin A. Howe.

She is survived by Michael (Dana) Harrison of Hurst, TX. and Mark (Olga) Harrison of San Antonio, TX.,three grandchildren, Austin, Ava and Kaitlyn, one niece, Patricia (Scott) Dowler of Lafe, a great-nephew, Josh (Kim) Dowler of Paragould, a great-niece, Julianne (Jason) Shook of Los Angeles, CA., and two great-great-nephews, Braden and Eli Dowler of Paragould, AR., a sister-in-law, Pat Miller of Rector, AR. and many other relatives and friends.

Jessie Mable Armstrong, 93, of Hoxie, AR. passed away Monday July 18, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born February 9, 1918 in Portia to William and Emmer Cunningham Stayton. She was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County, retired from the Wagon Wheel Restaurant and of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Amstrong; her parents; two brothers, Lee and Wyatt Stayton and one daughter, Earlene Armstrong.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Armstrong and wife Helen of Eauclaire, MI, Jerry Armstrong of Hoxie; two daughters, Shirley Armstrong of Hoxie, Debra James and husband Tim of Trumann; sister, Letha Miller of Black Rock; 14 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

He was born August 20, 1953 in Cape Girardeau, MO, the son of the late James Doyne and Ella Mae Roberts Rasberry. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Jeremy Pillow, mother and father-in-law, Frank and Melvina Rogers, and special friend Rick Osborn. Byron was part-owner of MidSouth Electronics for the last 8 years, was an electronic’s technician at Jack's TV and Appliance for 26 years. He was a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church, loved friends and family, and was an avid lover of reading, yard work and horses.

Survivors include his wife: Judy Rogers Rasberry, of the home; son: James Kendall Rasberry of Little Rock; sister and her family: Susie, Nick and Larry Pillow of Paragould; brother and sister-in-law: Larry and Mary Rasberry of Fort Worth, TX; special friends: Richard Foster, Ray Liddell, Richard Payne and Tony Case; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Retha Kay Kappelman



Retha McGinnis Kappelman, 51, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born January 3, 1960 in Omaha, Nebraska the daughter of Albert "Gene" McGinnis and the late Mary E. McGinnis. She retired from the Arkansas Highway Department and from being a Nail Technician. Retha attended Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters and their families: Danna Woods and Darell Savior and grandson Jamal Savior; Passed awayra Robinson Crossno and Logan Crossno; father: Albert "Gene" McGinnis, all of Paragould.

John Philip Perry, 79, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born August 19, 1931 in Charleston, West Virginia, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Perry was a retired factory worker and union representative. He was a member of Bethel Station Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Perry of the home; two sons, Mike Perry of West Virginia, and John L. Perry of Arizona; and one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Tony Bramlett of Marmaduke. He is also survived by one sister, Margaret Black of South Carolina; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vesta Perry; one daughter, Berniece Kennedy; and four brothers, Paul, Emery, Ed, and Charles Perry.

Mrs. McFall was born February 16, 1917 in Lafe, Arkansas, to Sid and Clara Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rector.

Wilborne A. Rogers, 90, of Helena, Arkansas passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 in Helena. Mr. Rogers was born August 24, 1921 in Paragould, Arkansas to the late E.D. and Blanche L. Dyer Rogers. He was a member of West Helena Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and teaching Sunday school for 28 years. He served on the board for the Helena Housing Authority, worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad, the U.S. Postal Service and was very civic minded.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Rogers; son, Mark A. Rogers (Melody) of West Helena; daughter, Melanie Cooper (David) of Brinkley, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Baxter Drennon (Allison), Christopher Rogers, Charles Cooper, Corbitt Cooper and Crandal Cooper; and a sister, Jean Hamilton (Kenneth) of Paragould, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Catherine Applegate, Estelle Martin, Lynette Gregory, Opal Nut and Lavern Baldridge; and two brothers, Hershel Rogers and Daulton Rogers.

Services for Wilborne A. Rogers will be held Sunday, July 24th, 2:00 p.m. at the West Helena Baptist Church. Visitation will be Saturday evening, 5:00 until 8:00 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Grandson Baxter Drennon and Reverend Dusty Rhodes will officiate.

She was born September 27, 1933 in Greene County, AR the daughter of the late Alvin Gwyn and the late Lucille Cothren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jay Hammonds, and sisters, Genavie Mikel and Glenavie Farley. Ruby was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Mrs. Alma Jean Hill, 77, of Bono, AR., passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at her daughter's home in Trumann, AR. Mrs. Hill was born December 31, 1934 in Maulden, MO. She was a homemaker, she loved gardening, flowers and fishing, she was of the Pentecostal faith.

She married her husband John Hill on December 19, 1953. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1992.

She is survived by one son Mark Hill of Bono, AR.; five daughters Anita Stubbs of Vernon, FL., Patricia Long of Trumann, AR., Debbie Hill, Karen Gosa of Harrisburg, AR., Ruthie Brooks of Bono, AR.; five sisters Willadean Vaughn of Paragould, AR., Helen Crafton of Oklahoma, JoAnn House of Saint Louis, MO., Lorene Smith of Paragould, AR., Margaret Swindel of Paragould, AR.; four brothers Luther Ray Knuckles of OK., Harvey Gene Knuckles of Paragould, AR., Dolen Knuckles of Leachville, AR., Cecil Knuckles of Paragould, AR.; seventeen grandchildren, thirtyone great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 25th, 11:00 a.m. in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Danny Murphy officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Jones Ridge Cemetery, near Delaplaine, AR. Visitation will be Monday, July 25th, 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Bertha Marie Jetton

 

Bertha Marie Fears Jetton, 86, Paragould died Sunday July 24, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born February 24, 1925 in Beech Grove, the daughter of the late Jess and Ethel M. Ryan Fears. She was also preceded by her husband, David Weldon Jetton, sisters, Inez Bibb, Alma Huffman, Mary Eunice Garman, brother, Troy Fears. She was retired from Emerson Electric.

She is survived by her daughter: Kay Lee; son: David Jetton both of Paragould; sisters: Olean Walker of Paragould; Shirley Blankenship of Walnut Ridge; 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 26th, 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel. The celebration of her life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel, with Jesse Dollars officiating. Interment in Shiloh Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Hackney, Eddie Pilkey, Bill Bobo, Jerry Ball, Jimmy Hardin, Bill Pillow.

Joshua Buchanan, 28, of Brookland passed away Monday July 25, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.

He was born December 8, 1982 in Durango, Colorado and had lived in Brookland since 1995. He was a welder for American Railcar Industries in Marmaduke and of the Pentecostal belief.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Howard Shaw and Paternal grandparents Charlie and Martha Buchanan.

Survivors include his mother and step father, Gary and Donna Gomez II of Brookland, fiancé, Monica Meaders of Brookland , two sons, Shane Buchanan of Jonesboro and Reese Buchanan of Fayetteville, Arkansas, two brothers, T. Jay Buchanan and wife Denishia of Jonesboro and Gary Gomez III of Brookland, two sisters, Sheree Youngblood of Brookland and Mikki Gomez of Aztec, New Mexico, grandmother, Mary Shaw of Brookland, niece, Cheyenne Stallings of Brookland, aunt, Shelia Ludwig of Mississippi. uncle, Eldon Shaw of Brookland,
two cousins, J.D. Shaw of Jonesboro and Autumn Ritter of New Jersey, and many, many close family and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday July 30th, 3:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Tommy Newman and Bro. Benny Isom officiating. Burial will be at Pine Log Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Active pallbearers will be Luke Goodman, Ronnie Letner, Edward Harbin, Zach Wall, Sketter Meaders and Scott Gibson. Honorary pallbearer will be Garry Thomas, and Vernon Garner.

Bryant Heath Watson, age 3 of Rector passed away at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital July 25, 2011. He was born May 30, 2008 to Brian and Tonya (Sanders) Watson. Bryant was a special little boy who enjoyed life to the fullest during his short time of life.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother: Mylesa Sanders, grandfather: Dewayne Huffstutler, his great-grandparents: William and Jewell Watson.

Surviving Bryant is his parents: Brian and Tonya Watson, a brother:Kolton Watson, two sisters: Mylesa and Alyse Gant, grandparents: William and Donna Watson of Paragould, John and Sheila Sanders of Paragould, great-grandparents: Joseph and Katherine Sanders of Paragould and Joann Burrow of Lafe, Lorene Huffstutler of

Steven Ray Hale, 25, of Paragould passed way Tuesday, July 26, 2011.

Born February 10, 1986, in Paragould, AR. he had lived in the area all his life. He worked for Denver’s General Refrigeration in Jonesboro as a service technician.

Survivors include his fiancée, Sarah Potter of the home; his mother, Michelle Jackson of Paragould; his father and stepmother, Jim and Janet Hale of Marmaduke; one sister, Mallory Hale; one stepsister, Lindsay Fry; and one half brother, Colton Hale, all of Paragould.

He is also survived by his future parents-in-law, James and Becky Pickney of Paragould, and Brian D. Potter of Rector; and his future brother-in-law, Brian A. Potter of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Irene Hale and Larry Dukes; great-grandparents, Bill and Edna Massey and Claude and Letha Dukes; his aunt, Carolyn Hale; and by one cousin, Nathan Dowdy.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 29th, 10:00 a.m. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Lafe. Marc Reeves will officiate. Burial will follow in Providence cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Bickford, Brandon Mason, Brian D. Potter, Ted Goodman, Glen Curtis and Blake Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers will include Michael Pasion, Denver Ferguson, his co-workers and his many close friends.

Eldora Alice Housewright



Eldora Alice Housewright, 91, of Marmaduke passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Ridgecrest Nursing Center. Eldora was born October 29, 1919 to Oscer and Julia Marie Jaterman Newbury. She loved bingo and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Housewright; her parents, and a son, Dennis Klophenstein.

Survivors include a son, James Housewright; three daughters, Carolyn Cobb, Gloria Holder and Shirley Maladin; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday, July 30th, 10:00 a.m. at Ransome Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro. No visitation is planned.

William Robert "Bob" Manis, 83, Paragould, passed away Thursday July 28, 2011at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born June 17, 1928 in Ellsinore, MO the son of the late Harrison Roy and Mary Gertrude Freeze Manis. He was a retired machine operator from Monroe. He was a veteran of the Army.

He is survived by his wife: Phyllis Dawson Manis of the home; step-sons and daughter-in-law: Scotty Dawson, Eric and Jennifer Dawson, step-daughter and son-in-law: Connie Wicker and Elton Collins all of Paragould; brothers: Jerry Manis of Carthage, TX; Albert Manis of Poplar Bluff, MO; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 31st, 12:00 noon until1:00 p.m. Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at New Liberty Cemetery with Brother Jerry Manis officiating. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Julie Elizabeth Creek, 66, of Piggott, AR. passed away July 30, 2011, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

She was born September 6, 1944, in Marmaduke, AR. and was the daughter of the late James Mac Henry and Celma Purdom Rideout.

She was united in marriage to Jackie Wayne Creek on March 29, 1960, and to this union a son, Tony Michael Creek was born.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jackie Creek; her son, Tony Creek; three brothers, James Henry Rideout, Lavern Purdom and Donald Mac Rideout; and two sisters, Wanda Lee Ledbetter, and Betty Rodgers.

Survivors include her two sisters: Mary Sue Moore of Pollard, AR. and Georgie Turner of Freeport, IL. and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 2nd, 10:00 a.m. in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Ted Winberry officiating. Burial in Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis, AR.

Visitation will be Monday evening, August 1st, 6:00 p.m.

Raygan Alexandra Bruton, infant, of Delaplaine, AR., passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011. Raygan was born in Poplar Bluff, MO., on July 15, 2011.

She was preceded in death by grandfather Irvin Cato.
