Tommy Earl Walters
Tommy Earl Walters, 85, Paragould, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center. He was retired from Emerson Electric and a member of Brown's
Chapel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; daughters and
sons-in-law, Gilda and Norman Maynard of Memphis and Judy and Carlie Wardlow of Olive
Branch, Mississippi; stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Ross and Jo Ellen Hicks and Dennis
and Joyce Goldsmith and stepdaughter, Lois Thompson, all of Paragould; 14 grandchildren,
16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. His parents, George M. and
Ivy Stimson Walters and brothers, Dolph and Lee Walters, precede him in death. Funeral
services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Royce
Boling officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Troy P. Powers
Troy P. Powers, 80, of Paragould died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at St. Vincent's
Hospice in Little Rock.
Born in Greene County, he was retired from the maintenance department of Pepsi Cola
in St. Louis and was of the Catholic belief.
Survivors include his wife, Aurora Powers of Paragould; three brothers, Clifton Powers of
Paragould, Houston Powers of Wichita, Kan., and E. Don Powers of Beech Grove; four
sisters, Bertha Bearden of St. Louis, Alberta Heltsley and Vira "Vi" Powers,
both of El Sobrante, Calif., and Evelyn Roach of Beech Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ruth Powers, one brother and three
sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould,
with L. R. Smith and Rex Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Powers, Steve Powers, Jeff Powers, Julian Reynolds, Kirk Cupp
and Nicky Cupp.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Betty Ann Hammon
Betty Ann Hammon, 66, of Paragould died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at St.
Bernard's Medical Center.
Born at Cooter, Mo., she was a retired business owner.
Survivors include her husband, Manuel Hammon of Paragould; one son, Harold Yeargain of
Paragould; a stepson, Dennis Hammon of Paragould; two stepdaughters, Debbie Salters of
Lansing, Mich., and Carla Foster of Baumholder, Germany; three sisters, Gene Hinson of
Allentown, Penn., Helen Goehring of Paragould and Flo Davis of Hernando Beach, Fla.; seven
grandchildren, Miranda Lamb, Darrian Hammon, Virginia Hunt and Richard Carroll, all of
Paragould, Randal Carroll of Little Rock, Michael Fleming of Lansing and Zachary Foster of
Baumholder; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Etta Majors Brown, one brother, two
sisters and one grandson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Heath Funeral Home's Colonial
Chapel at Paragould, with the Rev. Gary Cremeens officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial
Gardens Cemetery.

Chattie Newberry
Chattie Mae Newberry, 100, of Paragould died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center.
Born at Walcott, she was a retired lunchroom manager at Greene County Tech South School,
where she had worked for 27 years.
Survivors include a son, Lelan Newberry of Paragould; two daughters, June Ann Newberry
Bean and Viva Newberry Blackwood, both of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gee Newberry; one daughter, Naomi Spence; her
parents, Hugh D. and Tilda Lee "Jack" Wilcockson Newsom; six sisters; and five
brothers.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the
Rev. Scott Neathery and Larry Newberry officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood
Cemetery at Paragould.

Terry Lee Evans Nolen, 49, a Paragould homemaker, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at
her residence.
Survivors include her mother, Shirley Nall of Jonesboro; one daughter, Brandy Nolen of
Paragould; two brothers, Jim Evans and Perry Evans; three sisters, Darla Turner, Debbie
Cottle and Jonnie Stone; and one grandson, Brenton Cummings. She was preceded in death by
her father, Conrad Evans; one son, Jason Nolen; and one sister, Connie Jean Anthony.

Forrest Whetstone
Forrest Whetstone, 92, of Marmaduke, died July 3, 2004 at his residence.
He was born February 10, 1912, in Springfield, Nebraska, the son of Guy and
Delia McCarty/Whetstone. He was a retired oil land lease broker, a member and Past Master
of Paragould Masonic Lodge No. 368, and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Delma Whetstone of the home; three sisters, Opal Sickles of
Boulder, Colorado, and Dorothy McIntire and Doris Ryan, both of Pueblo, Colorado; three
nieces, Anna Lundberg and Phyllis Lombardi, both of Burban, California, and Sharon Loy of
Lisle, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be today, July 6, at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home with
interment in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from 1 p.m.

Joe "Doodle" Brummett
Joe "Doodle" Brummett, 80, of Paragould, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at
his residence.
He was born May 28, 1924, in Paragould.
Mr. Brummett was a retired farmer and a member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Brummett and Stan Brummett, both of Paragould; two
daughters, Patty Pratt of Light and Suzie Bean of Paragould. He is also survived by one
brother, Scotty Brummett; three sisters, Ruby Faulk and Oleta Keen, all of Paragould, and
Dorothy Butler of Lansing, Michigan; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Della Brummett, his wife, Joyce Brummett,
one son, Billy Joe Brummett, one brother, John Brummett, and by one grandson, David Lee
Pratt, II.

Walter Andrew McPherson
Walter Andrew McPherson, age 90, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Paragould
Nursing Center. He was born March 8, 1914, in Mayflower, Arkansas.
Mr. McPherson was a retired farmer, grocery store owner and shoe factory employee. He
was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gearld and Debbie McPherson of
Jonesboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann B. and Jerry McDonald of Paragould; one
brother, Roy McPherson of Leachville; eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet McPherson; his parents, John and Dovie
McPherson; and by one son, Bob McPherson.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Funeral Home,
Paragould.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with

Jimmie Ray Robbins, Sr.
Jimmie Ray Robbins, Sr., age 71 of Dixon, Missouri, died Monday, July 5,2004, at
his home. He was born in Paragould, Arkansas, on July 28, 1932, a son of John E.
and Alice Marie (Atchison) Robbins. On July 16, 1958, in Germany, he was married to
Christa Else Hecker, who survives at the home.
He was an Army Veteran serving one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was
awarded the Purple Heart. He also received the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense
Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Korea President Unit
Citation, and the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. He worked for the
National Guard Security in Jefferson City and for the United States Postal Service a HCR
Route carrier for 23 years. He was a member of Campground Christian Church near Van Cleve
and the Crocker VFW Post 4956.
Other survivors include: three sons, Bernhard Hecker of Germany, Gerhard Robbins of
Dixon, Missouri, and Jimmie Ray Robbins, Jr. of Iberia, Missouri; four daughters, Edna
Wilkinson of Fredericktown, Missouri, Merrie Pendleton of Dixon, Missouri, and Katherine
Robbins and Patricia Ruprecht both of Jefferson City Missouri; two brothers, Robert E.
Robbins of Buckhorn, Missouri, and John Ervin Robbins of Granville, Illinois; one sister,
Madge Keen of Paragould, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, at Campground Christian Church
near Van Cleve, Missouri. Rev. Manuel Seaton and Rev. Mitchell Seaton will officiate.
Interment with military honors will be in Dick Lawson Cemetery near Iberia, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia,
Missouri.

Myrtle Ruth Thompson
Myrtle Ruth Thompson, 90, of Paragould, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born November 25, 1913, in the Coffman
Community, Greene County, Arkansas.
Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker, and a member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, A.W. and Barbara Thompson and Martha
Thompson Chiles, all of Paragould; four grandchildren, Lissa Tabor, Kevin Thompson and
Brad Thompson, all of Paragould, and Kim Price of Jonesboro. She is also survived by ten
great-grandchildren, Shelly Lee, Brooke Tabor, Baylie Tabor, Mallory Thompson, Marshall
Thompson, Mackenzie Thompson, Chris Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Kodi Thompson, and Kaitlyn
Crafton, all of Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Kitty Coffman Wadley; her husband,
Rev. A.C. Thompson; and by one son, Burrell Thompson.

Deward "Derb" Zumwalt, 81, of Paragould died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born at Hornersville, Mo., he was retired from the Arkansas Highway and
Transportation Department and was a member of Grace United General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Zumwalt of Paragould; three daughters, Page George,
Karla Hinson and Michelle Hampton, all of Paragould; two sisters, Imogene D. Roberts of
Leachville and Clois Wells of Chattahm, Ontario; seven grandchildren, Gary Barrett, Tony
Dickson, Cory Hale, Soni Hampton, Samantha Hampton, Lindsey Hinson and Amanda Hinson; and
six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvah Daniel and Bertha Harden Zumwalt, a brother
and two sisters.

Jasper "Jap" Lindsey, 84, of Jonesboro died Monday, July 12, 2004 at
his residence.
Born at Brookland, he had lived in Jonesboro since 1976. He was a member of
Nettleton Masonic Lodge and was of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Lindsey of Jonesboro, Jasper Lindsey of Kaleva,
Mich., and David Lindsey of Trenton, Mich.; two daughters, Marilyn Pacheco of Romulus,
Mich., and Kathleen Antieau of Traverse City, Mich.; four brothers, Lonnie Lindsey of
Jonesboro, Carmel Lindsey of Trumann, Luther Lindsey of Paragould and Earl Lindsey of
Light; one sister, Maxine Smith of Wyndotte, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lindsey, three daughters and one sister.

Charles Edwin Northen
Charles Edwin Northen, 81, died July 13, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical
Center, Paragould.
He was born October 28, 1922, in Greene County, grew up in Jonesboro, and graduated
from Jonesboro High School. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps in the
Pacific Theater. After the war, Mr. Northen moved to Paragould where he lived for over 50
years. He retired from White Printing Company as Co-Owner/Vice President of Operations of
the Print Shop. He spent much of his retirement days golfing. He was a member of East Side
Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director for many years. Recently he was
active in the Senior Adult Ministry. He also served as Greene County Baptist Association
Treasurer for 16 years.
Survivors include his wife, Imodell Barrow Northen; one daughter, Linda Kaye Northen of
Paragould; a half brother, Joe Barrow of Memphis, Tennessee; a stepsister, Bernita Barrow
and a stepbrother, Mance Barrow, both of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.W. (Bill) Northen and Zelma Barrow.

J.R. "RAS" Cole
J.R. "RAS" Cole, 83, of Paragould, died Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Greene
Acres Nursing Home. He was born July 19, 1920, in Lafe, Arkansas.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Mr. Cole was a retired Social
Studies teacher and basketball coach. He was a member of Rock Springs Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cole of the home; three sons, Ronald Cole of
Paragould, Rickey Cole of Monroe, Georgia, and Neal Cole of Paragould; one daughter, Rita
Berg of Marshfield, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ras Andrew and Ellen Virginia Cole; two brothers
and two sisters.

Hal Wooldridge, 59, of Paragould died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center.
Born in Harrisburg, he was an Army veteran and had been employed at L. A. Darling
Co. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Wooldridge of Paragould; two daughters, Marcia Wooldridge
of Paragould and Mariah McMasters of Walker, La.; five brothers, Harley Wooldridge and
Winston Wooldridge, both of Paragould, Cecil Wooldridge of Osceola, Paul Wooldridge of
West Memphis and Ben Wooldridge of Dixie; and two sisters, Aileen Powell and Chestine
Tribett, both of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.V. and Grace Foxx Wooldridge, and a sister.

Melissa Aleene Hearn, 37, of Paragould, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at her home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elmon Busby and one brother, Gary Lynn Busby.

James Marion Austin
Funeral services for James Marion Austin, 92, of Jacksonville, Texas,
will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in
Jacksonville, Texas. Burial will be held at the Jarratt Cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas.
Mr. Austin died Monday, July 19, 2004, in a Jacksonville, Texas, hospital after a
lengthy illness.
He was born March 25, 1912, in Greene County near Paragould, Ark.
He was the son of the late Ernest and Mary Lue Austin.
Mr. Austin's career as a Tool & Die maker began at Fisher Body in Flint, Mich. It
continued to Aerojet, Sacramento, Calif., and L.T.V., Dallas, Texas. After retiring in
1974, they moved to Arkansas for 16 years before settling in Jacksonville in 1990.
He served as deacon and also Men's Bible Teacher at Fellowship Missionary Baptist
Church in Flint, Mich., Palm Ave. Baptist Church in Texarkana, Ark., and assistant
teacher, First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Texas.
After accepting Jesus as his Savior at age 15, studying and discussing God's word was his
favorite pastime. Sportswise, he was a lightweight boxer in his youth. He was an excellent
carpenter, building two houses and remodeling others.

Predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include beloved wife of 68 years, Lillian Austin, Jacksonville,
Texas, daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Bob Bass, Jacksonville, Texas, and Donna and

Ralph Earl Clarke, 76, of Paragould, died at his residence.
He was born September 4, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Mr. Clarke retired from Belks as a menswear salesman and was of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Peter Clarke of Little Rock and James Lincoln Clarke
of Paragould; one daughter, Barbara Storey of Lindale, Georgia; two step-grandchildren;
and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Jeanette Clark; his wife, Audrey
Lucille Clarke; one brother and one sister.

Oby Hoyt Mobley
Oby Hoyt Mobley, 81, of Paragould, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at St. Bernards
Medical Center.
Mr. Mobley owned a service station and grocery store at Oak Grove Heights and was a
Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Glen Mobley of Pocahontas, and Randall Mobley of Oak Grove
Heights; two daughters, Colean Norman of Amelia, Virginia, and Sharon Dachs of Paragould;
two sisters, Helen Parker of Phoenix, Arizona, and Imogene Adkinson of Heber Springs; ten
grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Mobley; three brothers, Lester Mobley, Joe
Mobley, and Maynard Mobley; and by one sister, Grace Wells.

James Spence
James Spence, 67, of Paragould, died Tuesday, July 22, 2004 at his
residence. He was born December 9, 1936, in Holiday, Tennessee.
A Vietnam veteran, he was a teacher after retiring from the Army. Mr. Spence was a member
of the Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hays Spence of the home; one son, Ronald Spence of
Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Judy Bennett of Conway, Arkansas; three sisters, Faye Henson
of Ripley, Tennessee, Helen Rainbolt of Paragould, and Dean Carrington of Parsons,
Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Catherine Spence of Parsons, Tennessee; and by six
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Zula Mae Spence; one brother, J. T.
Spence; and one sister, Patricia Spence.

Myrene Louise Cordell Cooper
Myrene Louise Cordell Cooper, 89, of Schugtown, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at
her residence.
She was born February 27, 1915, in Canton, Texas. Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and a
member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Dixie, Arkansas.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Cooper of Jonesboro, Wayne Cooper and David Cooper,
both of Schugtown, eight daughters, Bruxie Myshka and Loretta Allen, both of Jonesboro,
Dianne Allen of Brookland, Emma Dell Danley, Sharon Hollis, Debbie Cooper and Charlotte
King, all of Paragould, and Imogene Curtis of Kimberling City, Missouri. She is also
survived by one sister, Dorothy Jackson of Fort Myers, Florida; twenty-two grandchildren;
twenty-nine great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several step
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Harvey "Red" Cooper; her
parents, Roy Vernon Cordell and Emma Woolbright Cordell; two sons, Tommy Vernon And Larry
Don Cooper; one grandson, Jonathan Cooper; three sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Funeral service will be Friday at 3:00 p.m., at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with
Joel McMasters officiating. Burial will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Daisy Belle Irvin
Daisy Belle Irvin, 72, of Paragould died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at St.
Bernard's Medical Center.
Born at Rulo, Neb., she was a retired mechanical inspector for Huffy Bicycle Co. in
California.
Survivors include her husband, William J. Irvin of Paragould; three sons, William Irvin of
Paragould, Virgil Irvin of Redding, Calif., and Michael Fontaine of Yucaipa, Calif.; two
daughters, Linda Klein of Baja, Mexico, and Shirley Irvin of Moreno Valley, Calif.; one
brother, Leon Hunt of Nevada; a sister; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two children.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in
Paragould, with the Rev. Junior Vester officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial
Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Walters infants
Kaydence Danielle Walters and Kadin Blaine Walters, infant twins of Jon Walters and
Jennifer Patterson, both of Paragould, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at St. Bernard's
Medical Center.
Survivors in addition to the parents include a brother, Conner Walters of the home;
paternal grandparents, Dale Walters and Beverly Reddick, both of Paragould; maternal
grandparents, Doug and Jane Dowler of Lafe; paternal great-grandparents, Jinny Walters and
Bobby Parks, both of Paragould, and Betty Sheffield of Marmaduke; and maternal
great-grandparents, James and Carolyn Nailling of Beech Grove and Randall and Sharon
Dowler of Lafe.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in Greene County Memorial Gardens
under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Jack Holifield
Jack Holifield, 68, of Paragould passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at his
residence. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1954 and from Arkansas State
University in 1958 with a BSA. He was a member of the Army National Guard with a rank of
Staff Sergeant. He was employed with Foremost Dairies as Procurement Fieldman from
1958-1967 and as Fleet and Safety Manager from 1967-1975. Jack became owner of Independent
Tire Company in 1975 until he sold the business in 1990. He later worked as a substitute
teacher at Ridgecrest School in the Agriculture department in 1990 and was a Salesman at
Greene County Feed and Seed in 1990 until the business was sold in 1996. He was a
certified Fox Trotting Horse Judge in 1995 and was a seminar speaker for various Horse
Show and Livestock Associations from 1990-1996. He was a member of the Greene County Fair
board and superintendent of the livestock from 1960-1962 and also a member of the Exchange
Club from 1975-1978. Jack was a member of Westview Baptist church and a substitute Sunday
School Teacher from 1973 until present.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Baker Holifield of Paragould; one son, Mark Holifield
of Bois D Arc, Missouri; one brother, Carl Holifield of La Porte, Indiana; two sisters,
Jill Wright of Plymouth, Indiana and Patricia Fletcher of Aurora, Colorado; two
grandchildren, Kaci Hodge of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Kyle Thompson of Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma and one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Nicole Hodge of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl M. and Mary Jo McFall Holifield and one
sister, Joy Cullison.
Visitation will be Friday, 6:00-9:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Home, funeral services will
be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Michael Baker and Reverend
Leon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens in

Phil Durham
Phil Durham, 52, of Light died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at St. Bernard's
Medical Center.
Born in Moline, Ill., he was a self-employed carpenter and was affiliated with
Walnut Corner General Baptist Church near Light.
Survivors include his father, Phillip C. Durham of Heber Springs; one son, Rick Durham of
Garland, Texas; two grandchildren, Austin Durham and Allison Durham, both of Garland; and
one sister, Peggy Simpson of Light.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Erma McAlister.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Mount Zion Cemetery near
Walcott, with Bobby Wade officiating. Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie is in charge of
arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Richard Simpson, Grayson Simpson, Chris Simpson, Allen Simpson, Jason
Wade and Marty Williams.
Steve Forkum
Funeral services for Steve Forkum, 34, of Walnut Ridge, who died Friday, July 23, 2004
at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of
House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.
The Rev. Steve Trail will officiate, and burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery
at Walcott.
Byron Simmons II, Clyde Hill, Tommy Waddell, Curtis Fain, Phill Forkum and Michael Simmons
will serve as active pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will include Terry Price, Dub Forkum, Byron Simmons, Carl Baird, Gene

Born at Paragould, Forkum was a lifelong resident of Walnut Ridge. He was an
Arkansas State University student and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut
Ridge.
He had served in the Air Force for four years at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Mountain
Home, Idaho.
Survivors include his mother, Maydeen Forkum of Walnut Ridge, and one brother, Jason Ray
Forkum of Walnut Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his father, Buffard H. Forkum.
Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Bonnie Lou Sifford
Bonnie Lou Sifford, 66, of Pocahontas died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at St. Bernard's
Medical Center.
Born at O'Kean, she had worked for Cinch.
Survivors include her husband, Eldon Sifford of the home; one son, Rick Gates of
Pocahontas; one daughter, Robin Stayton of Pocahontas; a stepson, Terry Sifford of
Sullivan, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Sharon Hoelsher of Bourbon, Mo.; one brother, John Like of
Rockford, Ill.; four sisters, Verna Clements of St. Louis, LaVaughn Moore of Arnold, Mo.,
Laveta Bell of Cold Water, Mich., and Ann Rooker of Delaplaine; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Todd Gates; her stepson, Tony Sifford; and
a brother.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas,
with Gerald Fears officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens
at Paragould.
Active pallbearers will include Joel Carver, Theodore Parten, Warren Matthews, Charlie

Martin Dewey Wood
Martin Dewey Wood, 92, of Paragould died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center.
Born at Senath, Mo., he was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee
of the city of Paragould. He was a member of 3rd Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond M. Wood of Marianna, Gerald G. Wood of Oxford and
Joe Alvin Wood of Paragould; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Wood; his parents, Will and Mary Wood; six
sisters; and four brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Funeral Home in
Paragould. Burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery.

Fondell Flora Fletcher
Fondell Flora Fletcher, 93, of Paragould died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Second and Walnut Church
of Christ.
Survivors include three sons, Bud Fletcher of Paragould, James Fletcher of Cherokee
Village and David Fletcher of Mountain Home; one daughter, Jo Ann Stevens of Yuma, Ariz.;
a stepson, Johnny Fletcher of San Diego; two brothers, Jack D. Taylor of Paragould and
James L. Taylor of Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Fletcher, and her parents, James Arthur
and Dona Taylor.

at Paragould, with James A. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood
Cemetery.

Betty Carolyn Smith Heinemann
Betty Carolyn Smith Heinemann, 71, of O'Fallon, Missouri f/of Beech Grove, died Monday,
July 26, 2004 in St. Louis.
Born at Beech Grove, she was a graduate of Greene County Tech High School. She had
worked at First Federal Savings and Loan for 35 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Callihan of O'Fallon; two brothers, Carlton Smith of
Beech Grove and Garland Smith of Paragould; one sister, Janice Smith of Paragould; and two
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Beatrice Williams Smith, and a
brother.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the
Rev. Everett Tom officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens
in Paragould.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Patsy Lorine Nunally
Patsy Lorine Nunally, 58, of Paragould died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at her home, are
scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Paragould.
The Rev. Bill Nunally will officiate, and burial will follow in New Friendship
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Jonathan Gilbert, Michael Gilbert, Rusty Milliam, Joe Ferguson,
Robert Walker and Tony Allen.
She was born in Lawrence County and was of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include her husband, John Nunally of Paragould; two sons, Kerry Eugene Gilbert
and Mark Andrew Gilbert, both of Paragould; her mother, Lorine Hanshaw Brown of Walnut
Ridge; two daughters, Suzanne Ciscell of Paragould and Brenda Richmond of Black Rock;
three brothers, Bobby Brown of Walnut Ridge and Albert Brown and Virgil Brown, both of
Pocahontas; one sister, Gloria Brown of Pocahontas; her maternal grandmother; 15
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Brown.

Charles Eugene Maag
Mr. Charles Eugene Maag, 77, of Paragould, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at East Side Baptist Church in
Paragould.
The Rev. Rick Frie and the Rev. Dennis Scudder will officiate. Burial will follow in Linwood
Cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.
Born December 18, 1926 in Paragould, Maag had been a barber for 45 years. He was
the retired owner and operator of Charlie's Barber Shop and was a Navy veteran. He was a
member of East Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Francis Maag of Paragould; one son, Johnny Maag of
Paragould; a daughter, Diane Frie of Jenks, Okla.; one brother, Gale Maag of Paragould;
four sisters, Marcella Camp and Minnie Tarvin, both of Paragould, and Wanda Lewis and
Ramona Yates, both of Sikeston, Mo.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Jon Maag; his parents, Harmon and Hester
Bales Maag; a brother; and a sister.

Loraine Fay McBroom
Loraine Fay McBroom, 86, of Delaplaine, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at her
residence. Mrs. McBroom was born on September 10, 1917, in Craighead County, Arkansas,
the daughter of James Henry and Rosa Wood Butler. She was a homemaker and a member of
Delaplaine Baptist Church. She is survived by Sons: Dale McBroom, Burton, Michigan; Jake
McBroom, Paragould; Terry McBroom & Kent McBroom both of Delaplaine; Daughters: Bail
Abanathy & Pat Tabor both of Paragould; Brothers: Raymond Butler of Sarah,
Mississippi; Aubrey Butler of Reagan, Texas; Sisters: Opal Rothe of Delaplaine & Hazel
Dirlam of Sherwood, Arkansas; 16 Grandchildren; 30 Great-Grandchildren. Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m., at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Royce
Boling officiating. Burial at Jones Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00

Gladys Ware
Memorial services for 59 year old Gladys Ware of Marmaduke, who passed away on July 31,
will be held at 7 p.m. at Marmaduke First Baptist Church with Pastor Kim Bridges
presiding.
Gladys Ware was greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends. She is survived by
her mother, two brothers, a sister, a daughter, a son and five grandchildren.
