Virginia Rhea Gunter
 



Virginia Rhea Gunter, 89, of Warner Robins, Georgia, formerly of Paragould, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Houston Medical Center, Warner Robins.
Born July 28, 1919, in Paragould, to Henry and Lou Ella Gunter, she was a retired executive secretary for Texas Eastern Gas Company.

Survivors include three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and two brothers.

Funeral service will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Merry Louise Retherford

 


Merry Louise Retherford, age 65, of Paragould, passed away January 2, 2009 at her home. Born April 27, 1943 in Greene County, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two sons, George and Randal Retherford, both of Paragould, three daughters, Sandra Arnold of the home, Lou Simpson of Paragould, and Betty Medlock of Black Rock, one brother, Rev. Wayne Rowland of IN., one sister, Marie Ragsdale of Portland, OR., eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard L. Retherford, her parents, W. C. and Florence Rowland, one step son, Rickey Retherford, and one granddaughter, Dakota Simpson.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 5th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Snow officiating. Burial will be in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon until service time.

Charles Edward Lewis, age 75, of Marmaduke passed away Friday, January 2, 2009, at his home.
He was born November 29, 1933, in Malden, MO., to the late Paul and Marcella (Schultz) Lewis. He was retired from the railroad and from Monroe Company.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Huffstutler) Lewis of Marmaduke, three sons and their wives, Gary and Kathy Lewis of Paragould, Larry and Kelly Lewis of Paragould and Alan and Mary Lewis of Fort Smith, three daughters and their husbands, Rhonda and Charles Reed of Paragould, Diana and David Broyles of Fort Smith and Carolyn and Gerald Ball of Gainesville, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Larry and Bobby Lewis of MI. and two sisters, Jeanette Able of MI. and Barbara Hackworth of Little Rock.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, January 5, at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Bro. David Floyd officiating. Interment Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Vida Mae Rhoads



Vida Mae Rhoads, age 77 of Paragould passed away Saturday, January 3, 2008 at her residence.

She was a homemaker and member of Fairview Baptist Church. She was born September 7, 1931 to the late Oliver and Olene Scott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Rhoads, brothers, Doug and Eddie Scott, and sister, Onegin Hunt.

Vida is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David McSpadden of Paragould, sisters, Phyllis Manis of Paragould and Shirley Malick of Little Rock, and grandchildren, Christy McSpadden, Whitney McSpadden and Alex Gramling, all of Paragould.

Visitation will be this evening from 6 until 8 at the Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, January 07, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Strope officiating.

Marlin Ray DeVoll
 



Marlin Ray “Tuffy” DeVoll, age 80, passed away at his residence Monday, January 5, 2009 in Amelia, OH.
He was born August 29, 1928 to the late Bill and Rudy DeVoll. He attended Paragould High School. He was an Army veteran with lifetime membership in the V.F.W. and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife Janet DeVoll of Amelia, OH. Four children Mike Simmons, LeeAnn Clem, Jan Terrell and Monica Forman of Jonesboro, AR. and several grandchildren. Two sisters, Virginia Biggs of Paragould, AR. and Jesalee Herren of Englewood, OH. Step-mother Lodema DeVoll of Paragould, AR. Step-sister Sandra Sharpe, DeSoto, MO. He was also step-father to Janet’s children Taffy, Gilbert, Douglas, Ginger, Larry and Candy.

Visitation and memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia, OH. with a full military honor guard.

Velma Christine Goodwin
 


Velma Christine Edwards Goodwin, “MeMaw” age 94, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born February 3, 1914, at Walcott to the late Stephen and Julia Edwards. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she worked as a nursery worker for 20 years.

Mrs. Goodwin retired from Frolic Footwear after 25 years. MeMaw was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, a devoted wife and loving mother.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Janet and Larry McQuay of Jonesboro, a sister, Maxine Garner of Arlington, TN., seven grandchildren, Ronald Goodwin, Cliff Goodwin, Christine McQuay, Kim McQuay, Michele Creamer, Leslie Adams and Steve McQuay and wife Cassie, 13 great-grandchildren, Ashley Goodwin, Tracy Hill and husband Brad, Marc Snell, Kortnie Creamer, Felicia Zuber and husband Joe, Catie Creamer, Andie Creamer, Brian Schreck, Christi Schreck, Tyler Adams, Gage Adams, Alex McQuay and Jessica McQuay, great-great-grandchildren, Madalyn Zuber and Isabella Hill, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Goodwin, her son, Ronald Dale “Sonny” Goodwin, a brother, Bruce Edwards, two sisters, Grace Clark and Emma Edwards, two half brothers, Will Edwards and Ray Edwards.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Mike Martin and Gary Gipson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gary Wayne Edwards, Eddie Garner, David Garner, Eric Brown, Tommy Raines and Daniel Raines, and as honorary pallbearers, Larry McQuay, Ron Goodwin, Cliff Goodwin, Stephen McQuay, Marc Snell, Tyler Adams, Alex McQuay, Gage Adams, Michael Weston, Joe Zuber, Len Snell, Curtis Creamer, Steve Schreck and Allen Adams.

Visitation will be today from 5 until7 p.m. in Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Jerry Don Keller, age 46 of Rector, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 near Alexander Community.
Mr. Keller was born on July 4, 1962 in the Blue Cane Community to Jerry L. and Sonja Keller. He worked at Asco Steel in Blytheville.

Survivors include his mother, Sonja Elliott of IN., a son, Marcus Keller of Rector, two daughters, Kari Keller of Piggott and Ashley Keller of Rector, two brothers, Joey and Jason Keller of IN., a sister, Shiela Keller of CA., three grandchildren, Arin, Tyson, and Jillian Keller

Private memorial service for family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the Jerry Don Keller Ranch near Rector.

Barbara June Frank, age 54 of Paragould, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born May 21, 1954 in Evanston, IL. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel B. Rusak.
Survivors include her daughter, Sarah Roach of Paragould, son, David Roach of Jonesboro, mother, Berta Rusak of Paragould, brother, Daniel F. Rusak of Dixie, ID., and cat, Melanie (Melly Cat).
Family and friends will meet at Shiloh Cemetery for a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11th with Rev. Marion Gramling officiating. Heath Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Wayne Doyle Tritch, age 55, of Lafe, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on January 9, 1954 in Lafe, Arkansas. He was a volunteer firefighter, mayor of Lafe, owner of Wayne’s Body Shop and a member St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lafe.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Regina Tritch of the home, a daughter, Tonya Damron and son-in-law, Matt Damron of Lafe, a son, Shannon Tritch and daughter-in-law Ginny Tritch of Lafe, two grandsons and one grand daughter, his mother, Pauline Tritch of Lafe, three bothers, Eldon Tritch of Palmer, Alaska, Larry Tritch and Darryl Tritch both of Paragould, two sisters, Letha Tritch and Joan Mask both of Lafe, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father James C. Tritch, a brother, Glen Tritch, and one nephew Greg Tritch.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curt Dwyer officiating, burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Lafe. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Sunday at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Dorthie Roberts, age 78, of Foley, MO., passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

She was born in Greene County on December 28, 1930, to Ralph and Rosie Whitehead. Mrs. Roberts was a nurse’s aide and homemaker.

She leaves behind her three sons and their wives, Kenneth and Mary Roberts, and Joseph Roberts, all of Foley, and James and Pat Roberts of Madisonville, TN., a daughter, Barbra Roberts of Foley, one brother, Bud Whitehead of Dittmer, MO., two sisters, Mary Barton of Greenville, Mo., and Bet Smullins of Dittmer, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenneth Jackson Roberts.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13th in the Roller-Farmers Union Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. with Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Cemetery.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6 until 8 in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include Michael Williams, Justin Williams, Scott Kavenaugh, Keith Crowden and Bradley Crowden. Her grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Lana Faye Laws
 



Lana Faye Laws, age 82, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009, at St Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born September 28, 1926 in Nashville, Howard County, Arkansas she was the daughter of late Rufus Hilry "Hill" Dixon and Ola (McBay) Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband of almost 46 years, Edgar Leon Laws who passed away in 1989, four brothers, Wintford "Wint" Dale Dixon, Rayford Dale Dixon, Wandall Lavell Dixon, and Bobby Gene Dixon. She was a homemaker, the wife of a farmer, a nurse's aid, a factory worker and a member of the Church Of Christ.
Survivors include five sons: Jimmy and Peggy Laws of Jonesboro, Lonnie and Linda Laws and Wesley and Mary Laws, both of Paragould, Rufus Berneal Laws of Beaufort, S.C., and Eddie Louis Laws of Searcy, four daughters: Glenda and Dick Wallace, Beauford, S.C., Josita and Ervin Reed, Judy Faye Laws, Tracey Annette Pitcher of Paragould, one sister: Jewel Mae Bayes of New Pine Creek, OR, one brother: Borden and Berniece Dixon of Mountain Home, ID, seventeen grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at theWalcott Church of Christ at1:00 p.m. Friday, January 16th with Raymond Lasley officiating. Mrs. Laws will be buried next to her late husband at Old Bethel Cemetery. The cemetery is just a few miles from where she raised her children and resided for 60 years.

Glenn Wade passed away January 10, 2009 in Paragould. He was born February 2, 1943 in Oak Park, IL. He was a retired real estate investor and pilot for Eastern Airlines. He enjoyed life and was loved by family and many friends.
He is survived by his sister, Debbie Bratton, two nieces, Meredith Holden of Paragould and Melissa Rushton of Springdale, AR, three great nieces, Gabby, Kayla and Molly Rushton of Springdale, one great nephew, Lane Holden of Paragould, his wife, Diana Wade, two step children, Alisa Long, Lance Greer, five step grandchildren, Shayla Cooper, Briana Long, Cody Greer, Zaida Greer and Zane Greer, a special family member, "Dude", and numerous friends.
Glenn was preceded in death by his grandparents, Neva and Frazier Hammond, his parents, Harold and Martha Wade.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Paragould, Paragould Chapter of the American Cancer Society or the Collins Theater Foundation. Visitation is Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home. Maurice Willliam Sims, age 87, of Paragould, passed away January 10, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. Born September 12, 1921 in Paragould, he was retired from the Arkansas Highway Department after 25 years and a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Bobbie Hester of Marion, AR., one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Laura and Russell McConnaughey of Paragould, one grandson, Chris Hester of Marion and two great grandchildren, Joshua and Jon William Hester, both of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Sims, his parents, Charlie and Mary Sims, and two sisters, Helen Chandler and Catherine Hayden.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 13, 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Albert Camp officiating. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, at 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Albert Richard Faughn, age 71, of Paragould passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, sibling and friend and loved the outdoors. He was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.

He was born February 11, 1937, the son of the late Wilford and Helen Gaithy Schott Faughn. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Faughn of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Lee and Ken Roden of Rector, son and daughter-in-law, Carey Richard and Renee Faughn, sister, Nancy Hazlewood, brothers, Robert Faughn and Alfred Faughn, all of Paragould, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Heath Funeral Home.

His life will be celebrated at the Heath Colonial Chapel at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 14th with Ken Roden and Jon Binkley officiating.
Interment will follow at Pine Log Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ricky Faughn, Steven Powell, Kyle Roden, David Romine, Don Walls and Ken Box. Rachel Leota Hathcock, age 90, of Benton, AR., formerly of Paragould passed away Monday, January 12, 2009 at Saline Memorial Hospital, Hospice House in Bryant. She was born March 24, 1918 in Russell, AR. A homemaker and member of West View Baptist Church, Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Edward Hathcock, parents, George Washington and Ollie Jane Thomas Wilcox, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Perry, one son, Jerry Edward Hathcock, eight grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17th at 11:00 am at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Winn officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m at the Heath Funeral Home.

Mrs. Eddie Joe Henderson, 80 of Manila, formerly of Rector, passed away January 13, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. Born August 19, 1928 in Holland, MO., she was a long time member of the Purcell Church of Rector.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Henderson of the home, four sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Teresa Henderson , Tony and Paula Henderson and Terry Henderson all of Manila and Dennis and Tammy Henderson of Blytheville. A daughter, Debra Adams of Marshfield, MO., two brothers, Bud Jones of St. Louis, MO., and Bob Jones of Essex, MO., nine grandchildren and 13 great grandgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R. V. and Lillie Jones.

Funeral services will be on Friday, January 16, 2009 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel of Rector with Bro William Percy officiating . Burial to follow in the Purcell Cemetery near Rector.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy Wicker, age 77, passed away Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail Bradsher of Fontaine, sons, Jimmy Wicker of Fontaine and Joe Wicker of Lorado, a sister, JoAnn Henson of Walnut Ridge, a brother, Jimmy Murphy of Lorado, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday, January 17th at 11 a.m. in Lorado Cemetery near Walcott under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with Tom Lamb and Marion Stringer officiating.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jim Stogsdill
 


Jim Stogsdill, age 69, of Caraway, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born August 6, 1939, at Paragould to the late Elmer and Elizabeth Stogsdill Sr. He was a 1957 graduate of Jonesboro High School. During the Vietnam War he served as a captain in the U.S. Army intelligence.

Jim retired as a supervisor from the Farmers Home Administration in Wilkesboro, N.C., where he lived for 20 years and was active in the Lions Club. He also farmed in Black Oak community and was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church. He was a great husband, dad, brother and friend. He will be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Stogsdill of the home, two sons and their wives, Mark and Angie Stogsdill of Nashville, and Rodney and Jennifer Sanders of Palatine, IL., two daughters and their husbands, Leigh Ann and Don Coulon of Victoria, TX., and Lisa and Wade Stevens of Seymour, TN., two grandchildren, Ashley Coulon and J.T. Coulon, a sister, Janet Stogsdill Osmon of Mountain Home, two brothers and their wives, John and Vickie Stogsdill, and Jerry and Corilla Stogsdill, all of Jonesboro, and his mother-in-law, Mildred Coffman of Black Oak.

He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, W.D. Coffman.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 17th at 11 a.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home at Monette with the Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Caraway Cemetery.

Honored to serve as active pallbearers are David Wells, Bryan Wells, Will Whitehead, Eddie Whitehead, Stephen Osmon and Scott Osmon, and as honorary pallbearers, the Jonesboro High School class of 1957.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the Gregg Funeral Home at Monette.

Vernon Lee Marr Jr., age 63, of Paragould, formerly of Blytheville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at the Great River Medical Center at Blytheville.

He leaves his son, Tommy Craine of Blytheville, brother, Richard Marr of Welcome, N.C., and three sisters, Rita McGrath of De Pere, WI., Nettie Henson Hodges of Blytheville and Brenda Welch of Munford, TN.

Graveside services will be Monday, January 19th at 1:30 p.m. in Dogwood Cemetery at Blytheville with the Rev. Mike Welch officiating. No visitation will be held.

Ray Odell Blankenship, age 83, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at his residence.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses. Ray was born December 4, 1925, he was a retired railroad electrician for the Southern Pacific Railroad. "He is a loved one."

Ray was the son of the late Earl and Carrie Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Hill, brothers, Wayne and Jack Blankenship, and sisters, Ernestine Forte and Norma Jean Morelli.

Ray is survived by his wife, Jeanie Blankenship of Paragould, daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Daniel Andrade of Atwater, CA., sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Blankenship of Atwater, Randy Blankenship of CA., Bobby and Deanna Pepper of Paragould, Michael Pepper and David Pepper, both of Saint Louis, MO., and Mark Pepper of Payson, AZ., brothers, Ralph Blankenship of Paragould, Tony Blankenship of Olive Branch, MS., Bill Blankenship of TN., and Jeptha Blankenship of Mountain Home, and grandchildren, Abigail, Elizabeth, Esther, Hanna, and Jonathan Andrade, Tony, Miranda, Morgan, and Victoria Pepper, and Randolyn Blankenship.

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Paragould on Saturday, January 24 at 3 pm with Les Langley officiating.

Ralph Gustave Brasher

 


Ralph Gustave Brasher, age 69, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009, at St. Bernard's Medical Center, Jonesboro.
Born February 26, 1939, in Lafe, Mr. Brasher was the owner of RGB Mechanical Contractors, Inc., Jonesboro. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lafe and loved all his family and many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Brasher, two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Tessa Brasher and Blake and Julie Brasher, all of Paragould. He is also survived by three sisters, Martha Willis and Mary Dowler, both of Lafe, Tillie Henderson of Merritt Island, FL., four grandchildren, Skylar Brasher, Belle Brasher, Gus Brasher and Bodee Brasher, and by many friends.

Mr. Brasher was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Allen Brasher, Sr., one brother, Allen Brasher, Jr., and one sister, Harriet Lacy.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17th, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church with Curt Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Friday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Pallbearers will include Al Ryan, James Shelton, Ronnie Gibson, Orin Tritch, Mike Rackley, Alex Ryan, Philip Brasher, Tom Hendrix and Greg Rollins. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of RGB Mechanical Contractors, Inc.

Thelma Cox
 



Thelma L. Cox , of Flint Township, Flint, MI., age 85, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Brian’s House of Davison.
Thelma was born in Lafe, AR., on July 1, 1923, the daughter of the late Elvis and Lora White Wright and was a resident of Flint Township since 1956.
Thelma was a member of Corunna Road Baptist Church for several years and served in many capacities. She volunteered at Flint Osteopathic Hospital and was a cake decorator for over 30 years. Thelma dearly loved Gospel music and sang in several groups through the years.
Surviving are children, Elizabeth Thompson, Norma (Bernie) McGaffigan, Frank (Jan), Bud (Ruth), Lou Sawyer, Bertie (Ken) Brant, Goodman (Kim), Donald (Judy), special daughter, Theresa Cox, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 11 siblings, Vernon, Othellis, Wilma, Mozella, Juanita, Pete, Frances, Norma, Lonnie, Jasper, Dewayne, many nieces and nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Cox, Sr. in 1983, children, Allen, Altus, Virginia and Fredia Marie.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Central Church of the Nazarene, G1261 West Bristol Road, Flint, MI 48507, Pastor Dave Hintz and Dr. J.D. Landis co-officiating.
Burial in Sunset Hills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Brian’s House of Davison or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mrs. Cox will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.

Mary Virginia Thompson, age 77 of Paragould passed away Friday, January 16th 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.
Mary was born November 22, 1931, she retired from Emerson Electric after 26 years and was a Wal-Mart Associate for 13 1/2 years. She was a member of the New Haven Baptist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James Luther and Cora Lilly Gramling Shipman, daughter, Judy Carol Howell, sisters, Sybil Stroud, Deronda Sheeks, Lucille Shipman, Nadine Turner, Betty Lou Shipman, brother, J. M. Shipman.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Thompson of the home, sons, Danny and Stevan Thompson of Paragould, daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Morris Hatcher and Debbie and Dennis Davis both of Paragould, brothers, Jerry Shipman of Paragould, James Shipman of Evening Star and Lee Shipman of AZ., sisters, Patricia Lenderman and Fannie B. Lenderman both of Paragould. Twentyseven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 19th at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Ron Pickney officiating. The family has requested that memorials be sent to the New Haven Baptist Church.

Coy Andrew Anderson
 


Coy Anderson, age 93, Paragould, passed away Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Mr. Anderson was retired from General Motors and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
Born August 20, 1915, he was the son of the late William Van and Mary Kathren Thompson Anderson. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Jolly, and brothers, Cloyd, Onie and Bill Anderson.

He is also survived by his wife: Bonnie Anderson, of the home, sons: Donald Anderson, Flint, MI., Lyman Earl Anderson, Piggott, AR., Dennis Anderson, Paragould, AR, sister: Ailene Goff, Benton Harbor, MI., ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren. 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 at the Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 19th at the Heath Colonial Chapel. Arlene Cline
 


Arlene Cline, age 96, of Jefferson City, Missouri departed this life Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Heisinger Bluffs Care Center, Jefferson City, Missouri.
She was born July 29, 1912 in Ravenden Springs, AR., a daughter to James T. and Bertha Wells Bailey.

She was united in marriage to Millard Blansett in 1932, and together they shared 35 years until his death in 1967.

Arlene spent a good part of her life farming, and was an excellent seamstress as well. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting. She was a member of the Rose Bud First Baptist Church in Paragould.

She is survived by one son, Jewel Blansett of Jefferson City, MO., one daughter, Mildred Statler and husband Paul of Columbia, MO., two brothers, Donald Bailey of Jonesboro, AR., and Noble Bailey of Imboden, AR., five grandchildren, Keith Blansett, Kevin Blansett, Kent Blansett, David Statler and Mary Foley, fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, along with several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Eugene Bailey, Jewel Bailey and Burley Bailey and one sister, Ruby Bradford.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2009, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Rob Carle`, age 55, of Paragould passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at his residence.
Born July 28, 1953, he was the owner and president of Paragould Industrial Cleaning Supplies and a member of Brookland Baptist Church. Rob was the district Boy Scout executive in Birmingham, AL., Dallas and New Orleans. He was also active in the Boy Scouts in Northeast Arkansas.

Rob was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Carle` and parents, Robert Eugene Carle` Sr. and Dorothy Sanders Carle`
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Peggy and Dale Griggs and Lizabeth Robinson, all of Paragould, sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Carle` and Robby and Carrie Carle` all of Paragould, sisters, Sandy Carle` and Cindy Calhoun, both of Hot Springs Village, grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Campbell, Breanna and Caitie Griggs, Presley McLain, L.B. Wilma Bernice Nutt, age 85, of Jonesboro passed away Saturday, January 17th, 2009 at St. Elizabeth’s Place.

She was born at Lorado on September 4, 1923, to George and Lue Whitehead. She was a licensed practical nurse and a member of Lorado Baptist Church.

She is survived by her former spouse, Royce M. Nutt, a son, Wayne Nutt and his wife Sandra of Jonesboro, a daughter, Kathy Cameron and her husband James Eddie of Jonesboro, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Erich Nutt, his wife Jennifer and their children, Evan Nutt and Tyler Robbins, all of Waldorf, MD., Brandon Nutt, his wife Jennifer and their child, Brayden Nutt, all of Jonesboro, and Julie Cameron and her children, Connor and Claire, all of Leander, LA., and special friends, Juanita Wall, Carolyn Leach and the Brickell Family of Caraway.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dorothy Tabor, age 91 of Paragould, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. She was born May 19, 1917 in Paragould. A homemaker and former owner of Tabor’s Grocery, she was a member of the Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church.

 
She was preceded in death by, her husband, Russel Tabor, her parents, John and Minnie Matthews, and infant son, Charles Lynn Tabor, daughter, Gloria “Tooter” Lashley, her brother, James Matthews and daughter-in-law, Linda Tabor and a half brother, Luther Matthews.

Regina Lynn Boggs, age 51, of Hoxie passed away Saturday, January 17th, 2009 at home.

She had lived in Hoxie and Walnut Ridge the past 35 years, was a homemaker, clerk and of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Andy Powers.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Boggs, and daughter, Jennifer Henson, of Hoxie, mother, Maxine Powers of Walnut Ridge, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22nd at the House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with Chuck Fitzgerald and Rick Anglin officiating. Burial will be in Lorado Cemetery near Walcott.

Wilma Dean Roberts, age 69, of Paragould passed away Sunday, January 18th, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

Born in Marmaduke, August 27, 1939, Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Bertie Jackson, three brothers, and one sister.

Survivors include her husband, Ervin Roberts Sr., one son, Ervin Roberts Jr., both of Paragould, two daughters, Barbara Daniels of Paragould, and Nita Forbs of Warren, MI., eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21st at Shiloh Cemetery, with Dennis Scudder officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 until10:15 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:20 a.m.

Wilma “Polly” Guntharp, age 93, of Paragould, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 at Greene Acres Nursing Home.
Born March 17, 1915, in Walcott, she was a homemaker and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Guntharp is survived by one daughter, Charlotte Moss, and one sister, Wanza Vermilye, both of Paragould, one grandchild, Alette Shappley, and great grandchild, Bailey Shappley, both of Memphis. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dora Dennis of Little Rock, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Guntharp, her parents, Will and Odie Dennis, one brother, Allie Dennis, one sister, Eula Lashley, three half- brothers, Ernest Dennis, Wesley and Robert Dodd, and by one half-sister, Mildred Wrape.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22nd, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Alette Shappley and Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Carol Clayton Jackson


Carol Clayton Jackson, age 47, of Hardy, left this life on Monday, January 19, 2009, at her residence.
She was born July 3, 1961 in Walnut Ridge, and was a graduate of Delaplaine High School. Carol was in the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program while she was a senior in high school. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Knobel. Carol was a Promotional Coordinator for the music industry, TKO Productions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bonnie and Pat Clayton and Lael Breckenridge, and by her husband, Jim Jackson.

Carol was known to her grandchildren as MeMa and she loved each and everyone of them with all heart. Her main joy in life was to make others smile, to make new friends and to show everyone that knew her that she loved them.

She leaves her son, Heath and his wife, Jeanie, of West Plains, MO., one daughter, Mrs. Brandy Figgins of Hardy, AR., and one “sister in heart”, Judy Eveland of Paragould. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Cheyenne, Morgan, Chelsey and Andie, seven grandsons, Jonathan, Jarrod, Tanner, Dakota, Dylan, Justin and Hunter, several aunts and uncles, including an aunt and best friend that meant the world to her, Dian Pitcher. She also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Ethridge officiating. Private burial will be at a later date.

Dan David Muse, age 67, of Paragould passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at his residence. Born June 29, 1941, he was a retired Psychologist and a member of Cardwell United Methodist Church.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, W. E. and Hettie Hicklin Muse.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Sue Muse of the home, daughters, Ann Marie Vessell of Arnold, MO, Mattie Bhela of Nashville, TN, son, William Muse of Spring Hill, FL, and a half brother, William Muse of North Little Rock, AR.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home. Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 23rd at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Hargrave officiating.

Arthur Johnson, Sr.
 


Arthur Monroe Johnson, Sr., age 90, of Greenwood, IN. passed away January 20, 2009. He was born June 28, 1918, to Frank and Martha Fay Johnson of Paragould.
Arthur lived in Gainesville prior to his service in the Army. He served as a Staff Sergeant from 1941-1945. Arthur retired in 1982 after 26 years, as a delivery supervisor from L. S. Ayres. He was a member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church and Beech Grove Lodge No. 694, F. & A. M. Arthur liked being outside, especially to fish and work in his garden. Arthur also enjoyed working on projects with his family.

His brother, Daniel, and sister, Emma Burton, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna Johnson, son, Arthur Johnson, Jr., daughter, Shrynn Gadient, brother, James Johnson, grandchildren, Kristina, James and Mary Smith, five great-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, at the G.H Herrmann Funeral Home in Indianapolis, IN. He will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to M. Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 W. Stones Crossing, Greenwood, IN 46142.

Jerry G. Holcomb
 


Rev. Jerry G. Holcomb, age 67, of Heber Springs passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Northwest Medical Center at Bentonville.

Born April 14, 1941, at Paragould, he was the son of the late Joe and Olivia Drope Holcomb.

Rev. Holcomb had been a resident of Heber Springs for the past 14 years and was serving as pastor of South Side Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army and Arkansas National Guard.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Holcomb was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Holcomb and Bill Holcomb and one sister, Juanita Holcomb.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Holcomb of Heber Springs, two daughters, Faith Floyd and husband Jabo of Bentonville, and Paige McCarley and husband Mike of Lamar, seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Bekah, Colby, Jon, Katie and Daniel, two great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Gracie, two brothers, Charles Holcomb and James Holcomb and two sisters, Anna Robertson and Bonnie Thornton.

Rev. Holcomb is also survived by many relatives and friends.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His love for the Lord, family and friends was the cornerstone of his life.

Visitation will be held this evening from 5 until 8 in South Side Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24th, at 10 a.m. in the South Side Baptist Church with Larry Thomas, Mike McCarley, David Holcomb, Jabo Floyd and Charles Holcomb officiating.
Interment will be held at 3 p.m. in the Macedonia Cemetery at Jonesboro.

Pallbearers will be Joe Thornton, Ryan Floyd, Freddie Thornton, Colby Floyd, Eddie Holcomb, Jon McCarley, Daniel McCarley, Mason Williams and Virgil Koster.

Dan Franklin Keeton, age 60, of St. Louis passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009, following a brief illness.

He was a native of Paragould and a lifelong Methodist.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul and Juanita Keeton.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Johnston Keeton of St. Louis, one son, Jon Keeton of North Little Rock,two daughters, Angie Keeton of Jacksonville and Alex Keeton of St. Louis, one brother, David Keeton of Clarksville, TN., and three granddaughters.

A service of Death and Resurrection was held in Concord Trinity United Methodist Church on Jan. 24.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 16, at 10 a.m. in Greene County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert O. Pruett officiating.

Alma Marie Maronay



Alma Marie Maronay, age 71 of Paragould passed away January 20, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital.
Marie was born March 11, 1937 to the late Earl "Pete" and Pauline (Dawson) Laws of Clay County, AR. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Paragould and was the owner and operator of Marie's Fashions for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by one daughter: Teresa Birmingham.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2:00 at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Pastor James Brown and Pastor Kenneth Camp officiating.
Interment will be in the Woodland Heights Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday

Diva Potter Claxton
 


Diva Marie Potter Claxton, age 93, of Paragould, died January 23, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born January 1, 1916 in Greene County, she was a homemaker and member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Louise Potter of Paragould, one daughter, Sue Potter Gaddis of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and more great great grandchildren than she could count, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Tom Potter, one son, Teddy Joe Potter, her second husband, J. W. Claxton, her parents, J. W. “Buff” and Liza Baldwin, and by four brothers, Cloyce, Floyd, Alvie, and Jewell Baldwin.
Graveside funeral services will be Monday, January 26, 11:00 A. M. at Greene County Memorial Gardens under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Veteto officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. at the Mitchell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Billy Potter, Charlie Johnston, Leon Baldwin, Gary Baldwin, Marty Maurizi, Steve Potter, Cletus Baldwin, Tommy Baldwin, and Kenny Weaver.

Patricia Brown
 


Patricia Brown, age 59, of Caraway passed away Friday, January 23rd, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital,Memphis.

Born August 19, 1949 at Monette, Patricia lived awhile in Jackson, MS., but lived most of her life in Caraway. She was a bookkeeper for Faulkner Tax Service in Caraway and was a member of First Baptist Church of Caraway, where she taught Sunday school and served as Vacation Bible School director.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Brown, and her parents, Leroy and Dortha Powell Gauf.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Brandee and Matt Roberson of Caraway, one sister, Terry Gauf of Caraway, one brother, Michael Gauf of Caraway, and four grandchildren, Nikolas, Abbeegayl, Keech and Mia Belle.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Caraway with Rick Stevens and Jeff Heitman officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Active pallbearers include Mitchell Tipton, John Elinburg, Larry Barrett, Barry Riley, Jerry Brown and Gary Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers include members of the Ladies Sunday school class.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon beginning at 4 in Caraway First Baptist Church.

Born October 23, 1943, Julian O'day Crider, age 65, of Delaplaine, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009, at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, MO. He was a lifetime farmer and ordained as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Walnut Ridge. Julian was the son of the late Frank and Edna Crider.
He is survived by his wife, Tonda Crider of Delaplaine, mother, Edna Crider of Delaplaine, son and daughter-in-law, Heath and Angie Crider of Peach Orchard, daughter and son-in-law, Stefanee and Jason Hart of Jonesboro, step-daughters, Amber Smith of Pocahontas and Andrea Smith of Searcy, grandsons, Nate Crider and Bentley Hart, granddaughters, Darian and Abigail Crider and Jaci Shay Hart, step grandsons, Aaron Smith and Mitchell Lee, step granddaughter, Ashleigh Collier, step great-granddaughter, Isabelle Smith.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 at the Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Funeral service will be Monday, January 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Walnut Ridge. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Paragould.

Karen Nicole Hedge
 


Karen Nicole “Nikki” Hedge, age 43, of Paragould left this earth to be with her father, Richard Douglas Bryson, Saturday, January 23, 2009, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

Nikki was born July 22, 1965, to Richard D. and Karen Bryson in Paragould and is survived by her husband, Noble H. Hedge, her daughters, Felicia N. Hedge, Jordan D. Hedge and Heather Hedge-Pulley, and stepson, Brad Brewer, all of Paragould.

She is also survived by her mother, Karen J. Bryson, sister, Serena Paige Bryson-Potter, grandchildren, Alexis, Amerra and Conner Pulley and Chase Brewer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her and will greatly miss her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard D. Bryson, grandmothers, Martha J. McDaniel Riggsbee and Tennie M. Bryson, and grandfathers, Weldon McDaniel and Fred Bryson.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 27th at 10:30 a.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Royce Boling officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Ruth I. Gatlin Pillow, age 81, of Walcott, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Ridgecrest Nursing Center in Jonesboro. She was a homemaker and a member of the Walcott Baptist Church. Born January 26, 1927, Ruth was the daughter of the late Willie and Martellia Reeves. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Randall Gatlin, second husband, Joe A. Pillow, brothers, Lonnie and Eldrey Reeves, and sister Geneva Penny.
Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Margarett Gatlin of Jonesboro, grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Dewayne and Celina Gatlin of Jonesboro and Jeremy and Misty Gatlin of McKinney, Texas, granddaughter, Kim Gatlin of Allen, Texas, sister, Ruby Rice of Stanford, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 8:00 at the Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Walcott Baptist Church, where the family requests memorials be sent.

Darryl Owen Davis

 

Darryl Owen Davis, age 50, of Rector, passed away January 25, 2009. Born September 28, 1958, in Paragould to O.W. and Elsie Annette (Key) Davis, he was a lifelong member of the community, an employee of Emerson Electric and a member of Alexander Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his father, O.W. Davis; one son, Thomas Davis; one nephew, Josh Robinson, and a great-niece, Molly Robinson.

Survivors include his mother, Annette Davis of Rector; sons, Bradley Davis of Rector and Nicholes Davis, in the Marines; one brother and his wife, Barry and Cindy Davis of Olive Branch, Miss.; one sister and her husband, Debbie and Don Robinson of Rector; nephews, Judd Robinson and Bobby Davis; one niece, Lynette Davis, and one great-niece, Sarah Robinson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31st, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Kim Bridges, Tommy Springfellow and Phillip Bynum officiating. Burial in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Waymon Huckabee



Waymon Huckabee, age 75, of Paragould passed away Monday, January 26, 2009, at his home.

Born November 19, 1933, he was retired from Turner Dairy, was a member of Oak Grove Heights Church of Christ and was an avid duck hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Huckabee of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amber Huckabee of Paragould, one daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Robert Leslie Straub of Paragould, one sister, Elain Huckabee of Paragould, two grandchildren, Sean Straub and Trace Huckabee, and one great-grandchild, Jasmine Straub.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28th in Greene County Memorial Gardens under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home with Mike Robinson and Scott Houston officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:15 p.m. prior to services at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Drusilla A. Hickman
 


Drusilla Ann Hickman, age 73, passed away Monday, January 26, 2009 at the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

Drusilla had lived most of her adult life in the St. Louis area. She had also lived at Perryville, MO., and for several years at Black Rock. She was a stay-at-home mom and successfully raised five sons.

Prior to the onset of severe diabetes, she was active in scouting, arts and crafts, and her church. She was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice “Pat” and Geraldine M. Branham Hartnett, and brother, Ronald P. Hartnett of Tucson, AZ.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles J. Hickman of the home, five sons, Charles F., a professor at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, Jim P., a seminar consultant in the Washington, D.C., area, Tim P., a medical doctor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Thomas L., a computer systems consultant, his wife Vicky, and John R., a television dish installer, all of St. Louis, and sister, Patrice of California.

The body will be cremated and burial will be private in Oak Forest Cemetery at Black Rock.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31st at the House-Gregg Funeral Home at Walnut Ridge with Jerry W. Smith officiating.

Visitation will be at noon prior to services at the funeral home.

Annie Smith Dillingham
 


Annie Smith Dillingham, age 89, of Lonoke passed away Monday, January 26, 2009. She was born January 25, 1920, to the late Rev. Wilber C. and Mary Smith. She enjoyed volunteering at Memorial Hospital in North Little Rock and was a member of the Levy United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Boyd, two brothers, Earl Smith and Eugene Smith.

Annie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Matlock and husband, Bobby, of Sherwood, and three nieces and two nephews.

Jesse Wayne Amick
 


Jesse Wayne Amick, age 38, of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Jesse was born May 30, 1970, to the family of Bobby and Bonnie Amick. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Maud Amick and Anthony and Wilma Grojean.

 
Survivors include his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Amick of Memphis, TN., Jody and Amanda Amick of Cherry Valley, AR., John Amick of Jonesboro, and Jason and Amanda Amick of Jonesboro, sister, Jenny Payne of Paragould, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

 
A memorial service will be Friday, January 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paragould. A rosary will precede the service at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Samuel Frederick Hanks

 


Samuel "Sam" Frederick Hanks, age 77, of Lafe passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009, at his residence in Lafe. Sam was born March 9, 1931, he was retired from the University Of Tennessee in Memphis as a rehab engineer. He also made cabinets, loved woodworking and served during the Korean War.

 
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Hanks, children Sam Hanks, Jr. of Memphis, Joe Hanks of Memphis, John Hanks of Chicago, IL., Jim Gentry of Southeast Asia, Terri Stewart of Paragould, Christy Newell of Marmaduke, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.


Arrangements are being handled by the Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31st.
Funeral services will be at the Heath Colonial Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2009, with Rev. Royce Schanda officiating. Interment will be at LuLu Cemetery, Senath, MO

Keith Seal, age 60, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009, at his home. Keith was born November 26, 1948. He was a retired welder, loved riding his Goldwing Motorcycle and traveling. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike.


He is survived by his wife: Reda Seal of the home, mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Gerald Fisher of Yuma, AZ., father, Alvin Seal of Montrose, MI., daughter: Chantelle Hubbard of Grand Blanc, MI., sisters: Marna Anderson of Phoenix, AZ., Brenda Bueche and Nancy Bueche, both of Montrose, MI., brothers: J.D. Alva Lee Reinier

 


Alva Lee Reinier, age 76, of Paragould, passed away January 29, 2009 in Paragould. Born December 29, 1932 in Ollie, IA., he was retired from the U. S. Navy after twenty years, and also retired from Barton’s Lumber Company of Paragould after twenty five years, and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Joe Reinier of the home, three daughters and sons-in-law, Renee Reinier and Debbie and her husband Norman Reeves of Paragould, and Suzanne and her husband Greg Middleton of Canyon, TX., one sister, Betty Gott of Phoenix, AZ., four grandchildren, Jeremiah Reeves, Patricia Shelby, and Leona and Karen Middleton.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Dorothy Reinier and one sister, Eileen Pieffer.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 2nd, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Middleton officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. until service time.

Terry Raymond Holt
 


Mr. Terry Raymond Holt, age 54, of Blytheville, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born April 4, 1954, in Paragould, the son of Charles Raymond and Doris Jean McDonald Holt, he was a longtime area resident, a veteran of the U. S. Army, and affiliated with the Church of Christ. He was a retired import and export broker, and had worked with his father at FASCO before his illness.

Mr. Holt leaves his parents, Raymond and Doris Holt of Blytheville; two brothers, Gary Holt of Blytheville and Mark Holt and his wife Jessie of Houston, TX; his sister, Melissa Calhoun of Bartlett, TN; and two nieces, Mackenzie Calhoun and Karah Calhoun, both of Bartlett.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville with the Rev. Mike Welch officiating. Burial will be private. No visitation will be held.

Connie Jo Lee White, age 47, of Paragould passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 in Paragould. Born December 1, 1961, she is preceded in death by her parents George Lee and Linda Hornbuckle Craft.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Lindsey and James Glidewell, Nikki Franklin; son, Timothy Adam White; brother and sister-in-law, Carl W. and Regina Lee; grandchildren: Jeffrey and Lillian; and nephews, Alex and David.

Visitation will be Friday February 6th from 11:30 am until the procession leaves Heath Funeral Home for 1:00 p.m. graveside at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Helen Fay Shewmaker

 


Helen Fay Shewmaker, age 79 of Beech Grove, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Mrs. Shewmaker was born on November 3, 1929 in Stanford, AR., she was a farmer, a member of the Stanford Baptist Church and the foundation of her home.

Survivors include; her husband: Elwin Shewmaker of the home, one daughter and son-in-law; Shirley and Jim Bryant of Jonesboro, one sister; Tomazine Williams of Paragould, two grandchildren and their spouses; Todd and Amanda Blankenship, Tammy and Gary Gossett, and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shewmaker was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Bertha Bryant and by one brother, Nelson Bryant.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 2nd at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marion Gramling officiating, burial will follow in Center Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will include, Carroll Rice, Glen Newberry, Charlyn Allison, Alvin Miller, Thomas Bryant and Frankie Pillow. Honorary pallbearers will include, all the men of Stanford Baptist Church.
