Richard Alan Stokes

PARAGOULD -- Richard Alan Stokes, 47, of Paragould died Wednesday, Jan. 1, at his home.
Born in Chicago, he had worked for Monroe Auto Equipment for 24 years and served in the Missouri National Guard. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include two sons, Shadd Stokes and Josh Stokes, both of Paragould; his parents, Wayne and Louise Stokes of Paragould; and one grandson, Seth Rannals.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Timothy Stokes.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Larry Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Andy Stokes, Eric Stokes, Casey Stokes, P.J. Massing, Marvin Jolly and Joey Strobel.
David Galbreath, Keith White, Dale Lyles, Jimmy White, Greg White and Mike Potter will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Roy Webster Anderson

PARAGOULD -- Roy Webster Anderson, 95, of Paragould died Friday, Jan. 3, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born in Swifton, he was an Assembly of God minister for 73 years. He was a retired farmer and carpenter.
Survivors include three sons, Terry E. Anderson of Jonesboro, Joel Lee Anderson of Wentzville, Mo., and Laymon Anderson of Southaven, Miss.; three daughters, Nina Faye McDuffee of Paragould, Virginia Ray of Jonesboro and Alice Mae Mote of Memphis; one brother, J.D. Anderson of Clovis, Calif.; two sisters, Tennie Malone and Virginia McConnell, both of Fresno, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Sipes Anderson; his parents, John and Lula Rowlett Anderson; one son, Roy Anderson Jr.; one grandson; two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel with the Revs. Arthur Phelps, Morris Walker and Billy Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Wendell Moore

PARAGOULD -- Wendell Moore, 59, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Stone County Medical Center in Mountain View.
Born in Marked Tree, he had lived in the Marked Tree area for most of his life. He was a welder and a Baptist.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Moore of Brookland; one brother, Jerry W. Moore of Mountain View; one half brother, Charles Edward Spoon of Mountain View; two sisters, Rose Barlow and Shirley McGill, both of Bradenton, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Ashley Moore of Brookland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah L. Moore, and his parents, J.W. and Ona E. Hall Moore.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home chapel in Jonesboro, with Bobby Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Robin Wren Parrish

PARAGOULD -- Robin Wren Parrish, 45, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 2 at her home.
Born in Caruthersville, Mo., she was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Kevin Presson of Paragould; two sons, Nathan Parrish and Lonnie Parrish, both of Paragould; two brothers, Finis Moody of Michigan and Montie Moody of Dyersburg, Tenn.; four sisters, Dollie Caples of Memphis, Lucy Gray of Munford, Tenn., Bessie Riley of Mississippi and Peggy Woods of Florida; and four grandchildren, Zachary Ethan Parrish, Madison Renee Parrish, Drew Tyler Parrish and Shelby Lee Greenway.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Marmaduke Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kim Bridges officiating. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation.

Melvine Russom

PARAGOULD -- Melvine Russom, 71, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 2, at her residence. Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Scatter Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Buford Russom of the home; a daughter, Liddea Banks of Paragould; a son, Jimmy Newell of Paragould; two stepsons, Joe L. Russom of Thompson, Mo., and Paul Russom of Salem; three stepdaughters, Aneta Gallion and Peggy Gallion, both of Jonesboro, and Elizabeth Haygood of Paragould; three sisters, Wanda Cagle of McDougal and Alice Knuckles and Beatrice McFall, both of Paragould; two brothers, Robert Newell of Marmaduke and James Newell of Michigan; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Esther Woods Newell; a son; a brother; three sisters; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Eddie Gene Wright officiating. Burial will be in Jones Ridge Cemetery at Delaplaine.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home

 

Irene Goodman

PARAGOULD -- Funeral services for Irene Goodman, 77, of Paragould, who died Friday, Jan. 3, at the Paragould Nursing Center will be at noon Monday at Alexander Funeral Home of St. Ann, Mo. Entombment will follow in Mount Lebanon Cemetery Mausoleum.
Survivors include her husband, Howard R. Goodman; one son, Gary Goodman; one daughter, Donna Bereyso; and three grandchildren, Greg Goodman, Steven Bereyso and Jamie Bereyso.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nickolas R. Longino

PARAGOULD -- Nickolas R. Longino, 76, of Paragould died Sunday, Jan. 5, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Born in Chicago, he was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired Chicago firefighter.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Longino of the home.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
No visitation is scheduled.

William Cloyce Speer

PARAGOULD -- William Cloyce Speer, 76, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 9, at his residence.
Born in Paragould, he was a retired manager of Thermogas Propane Gas Co. where he worked 42 years. He worked in home construction and helped develop Deerfield Acres Subdivision. He was a member of Commissary Church of Christ and was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Speer of the home; three sons, Jack Speer of Brinkley, James Speer of Paragould and Joel Speer of Paducah, Ky.; one daughter, Judy Morris of Little Rock; one brother, Charles Speer of Bartlett, Tenn.; and Freida Speer of Paragould; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leno Cox Speer and Cecil Speer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with Larry McFadden, Phil Wilkerson and Darrell Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Darran Austin, Darak Austin, Darrell Michael Austin, Brian Rowe, Steve Breckenridge and David Powell.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Maxine Elmore Gibson

PARAGOULD -- Maxine Elmore Gibson, 86, of Paragould died Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond C. Gibson of the home; seven sons, John R. Gibson of Wild Rose, Wis., Jimmy C. Gibson of Seymour, Mo., Max Elmore Gibson of Oak Creek, Wis., and Harry C. Gibson, Glenn Darrell Gibson, Tony Michael Gibson and Howard Ray Gibson, all of Marmaduke; one daughter, Anna Christine Huckabay of Marmaduke; one sister, Tomazine Janes of Paragould; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Roberta Elmore; two sons, Jeff Davis Gibson and Phillip Wayne Gibson; one brother; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home chapel, with Conley Williams and David Poe officiating. Burial will follow in the Finch Cemetery.
Her sons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Barbara June Miller

PARAGOULD -- Funeral services for Barbara June Miller, 68, of Paragould, who died Friday, Jan. 10, at her residence will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with Marc Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Pruett's Chapel Cemetery.
Born in Mount Vernon, Ill., she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Rodger Miller of Pflugerville, Texas; four daughters, Kathryn George and Karen Nobles, both of Paragould, Charlotte Bennette of Winona, Miss., and Brenda Gwynn of Robbes Town, Texas; two brothers, Jack Henn of Paragould and Darrell Henn of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Reba Mills of Cotter and Jo Ann Johnson of Mountain Home; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Flossie Adeline Baker Henn; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Beatrice Qualls

PARAGOULD -- Beatrice Qualls, 81, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 12, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
Born in Iuka, Miss., she was a Baptist and a homemaker and was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment.
Survivors include three daughters, Fleurette "Pat" Edgin of Rector, Cynthia Hicklin of North Little Rock and Janie Swindle of Paragould; three sons, "Sandy" Hugh Qualls Jr. and Travis Qualls, both of Lafe, and Johnny Qualls of Paragould; one brother, Travis Brown of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Vera Blanton of Corinth, Miss., and Ruth Pate of Nashville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh L. Qualls; her parents; two grandsons; and four brothers.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould.
Pallbearers will be Ted Qualls, Jeremy Qualls, Josh Qualls, Kenny Edgin, Brett Hicklin and Andy Swindle.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Edward Clayton

PARAGOULD -- Billy Edward Clayton, 55, of Paragould died Saturday, Jan. 18, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born in Clay County, he was owner of Clayton Sinclair Station and was chief of the Marmaduke Police Department and had worked for the Craighead County and Greene County sheriff's departments. He was a former member of the Arkansas National Guard and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Hoggard Clayton of the home; three daughters, Cathy Calentine of Paragould and Billie Jean Davis and Kami Kai Johnston, both of Rector; five brothers, Jerry Byron Clayton of Rector, Joseph Darrell Clayton and Randy Oliver Clayton, both of Marmaduke, George Nolan Clayton of Paragould and David Lee Clayton of Piggott; six sisters, Barbara Jean Carpenter of Marmaduke, Linda Louise Travis of Paragould, Mary Elizabeth Rasberry of Fort Worth, Texas, Kathey Ann Wheat of Paragould, Peggy Luella Sutherland of Rector and Lesa Mechael Taylor of Cordova, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Suzie Freligh, Cody Calentine, Zachary Carter and Kailee Carter; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Marmaduke First Baptist Church, with Earl McKelvey and Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery at Marmaduke under the direction of Irby Funeral Service of Marmaduke.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Henry Girard

PARAGOULD -- John Henry Girard, 83, of Paragould, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

A lifelong resident of the Walnut Ridge area, he was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from Frit Industries after 43 years of service and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Cora Mae Ellison Girard of the home; three daughters, Joyce Hoffman of Jonesboro and Shirley Pillow and Annette Minick, both of Paragould; a son, John David Girard of Jonesboro; a brother, Vernon Girard of Pocahontas; a sister, Mary Balcerzak of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John James and Hattie York Girard, four brothers and one sister.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Lorado Cemetery, with Terry Gage officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert Henry Storey

PARAGOULD -- Memorial services for Robert Henry Storey, 74, of Paragould who died Friday, Jan. 17, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel in Paragould. The Rev. Bill Snow will officiate. His body has been donated to the University of Tennessee Medical School.

Born in Flint, Mich., he was a retired from the Navy and attended Victory Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Holaday of Rogers and Suzanne Schmidt of Minneapolis; one sister, JoAnn Alexander of Madisonville, Ky.; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Memorials may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Verneal Nowell Hamilton

MARMADUKE -- Verneal Nowell Hamilton, 83, of Marmaduke died Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

A lifelong Greene County resident, she was a graduate of Marmaduke High School and spent most of her life in the Hopewell community. She was a homemaker and former columnist for the Clay County Democrat, writing the Hopewell news.

A 4-H leader, she was a 21-year member of the Greene County Fair Board, was a judge at the county fair and was a quilt judge for the Arkansas State Fair. She was a member of the New Home Missionary Baptist Church and was a past assistant treasurer of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Association.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Hamilton of Marmaduke; one son, Maurice Hamilton of Corning; one daughter, Pat Pratt of Marmaduke; one brother, James Hershel Nowell of El Centro, Calif.; one sister, Ola Dickerson of Hot Springs; four grandchildren, Kevin Pratt, Andrea Stockert, David "Tony" Hamilton and Michelle Copeland; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ether and Zora Nowell.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould, with Roy Brady and Carl Cate officiating. Burial will follow in Hartsoe Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Pratt, David "Tony" Hamilton, Jeremy Stockert, Bob Yopp, Verlin Fultz and Clifford Featherston.

Dixie Nadine Turner

PARAGOULD -- Funeral services for Dixie Nadine Turner, 68, of Paragould, who died Monday, Jan. 20, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Jerry Reed and Wanda Osban will officiate, and burial will follow in Warren's Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Gander, Mitch Gander, Brian Shipman, Steven Thompson, Jason Poore and Weslie Poore.

Honorary pallbearers will include Leroy Poore and Timmy Turner.

Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Warren's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Harold "Lee" Poore of Otisville, Mich., Clay Allen Poore of Beech Grove and Charles Poore and Freddie Kersey, both of Paragould; six daughters, Linda Tubbs of Harrisburg, Diane Sanders of Otisville, Mary Lou Moore of Mountain View, Marie Ward and Norma Cooper, both of Goobertown, and Bonnie Cole of Beech Grove; three brothers, Lee Shipman of Mesa, Ariz., James Shipman of Delaplaine and Jerry Shipman of Paragould; five sisters, Syval Stroud of Millington, Mich., and Deronda Sheeks, Mary Thompson, Fannie Lenderman and Patricia Gander, all of Paragould; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Turner; her parents, James and Cora Shipman; a son, Jerry Poore; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jim Pankey

PARAGOULD -- Jim Pankey, 64, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 23, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

Born in Pocahontas, he grew up in Piggott and Pollard. He was a retired farmer and was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include three sisters, Evelyn Oden of Paragould, Edith Triplet of Luxora and May Bell Willard of Campbell, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, I.K. and Rebecca Jane Brewer Pankey, four brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery at Marmaduke, with Gregory Wilkin officiating. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ella Mae Greear

PARAGOULD -- Ella Mae Greear, 72, of Paragould died Sunday, Jan. 26, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Michigan, she was a homemaker and a member of Lorado Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Greear of the home; one daughter, Peggy Taylor of Bono; one brother, Kenny Johnson of Paragould; two sisters, Jonell Jones and Joy Woollet, both of Paragould; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Sybil Johnston; one son, Donald Ray Greear; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Marion Gramling and Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Morrow Cemetery.

Mary Hedgecock McMichael


PARAGOULD -- Graveside services for Mary Hedgecock McMichael, 85, of Paragould, formerly of Cahokia, Ill., who died Saturday, Jan. 25, have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Jack Bearden will officiate, and Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

A homemaker, she had worked for Cahokia School District No. 187 and retired from Centerville Township Hospital. She was a member of Cahokia Park United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Stokes of Paragould and Linda Kay Morgan of Staunton, Ill.; four grandchildren, Harvey J. Stokes of Greenville, Ill., James L. Stokes of Cahokia, Debbie Dann of Staunton and Tammy Webster of Beaumont, Texas; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George F. Hedgecock; her second husband, Wilbur J. McMichael; her parents, Homer L. and Ida E. Bland McCrady; and one brother.

Ora Tillman Foshee



PARAGOULD -- Ora Tillman Foshee, 83, of Paragould died Wednesday, Jan. 29, at his residence.

Born in Judsonia, he was retired from A.O. Smith in Granite City, Ill., and Martin Sprocket and Gear in Paragould and was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Louise Foshee of the home; three sons, Stanley Foshee and Wayne Foshee, both of Paragould, and William "Bill" Foshee of Marmaduke; two daughters, Minnetta Clayton of Jonesboro and Edna Miller of Hoffman Estate, Ill.; three brothers, Clarence Foshee of California, Ollie Foshee of Tuckerman and Raymond Foshee of Jonesboro; a sister, Willadean Richardson of Tuckerman; and eight grandchildren, Cameron Clayton, Brandon Clayton, Nick Clayton, Christopher Foshee, Andrew Foshee, Billy Miller, Bradley Miller and Carissa Foshee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Center Hill Church of Christ, with J.T. Ashby and Gary Cremeens officiating. Burial will follow in the Foshee Family Cemetery in Spring Grove under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Ellen Covenia Ramer

PARAGOULD -- Ellen Covenia Ramer, 88, of Paragould died Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Paragould Nursing Center.

Born in Marmaduke, she was a former employee of Uniroyal Plastics in Mishawaka, Ind., a past member of the Eastern Star and of the Methodist belief.

Survivors include one son, Barney Don Ramer of Knob; two sisters, Evelyn Lutrell of Marmaduke and Ealie "Tarp" Gibbs of Lafe; two grandchildren, Harold Wesley Ramer and Sherrie Heck; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Ramer; her parents, Pat and Murtie Wyatt; a son, Harold Ramer; three brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Rector, with Jim Thresher officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dodd, Jerry Dodd, Eddie Arnold, Mark Craft, Nick Carter, Christopher Szulczyk and Jason Ramer.

Visitation wil be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edith Roswell

PARAGOULD -- Edith Roswell, 92, of Paragould died Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Paragould Nursing Center.

Born in Greene County, she was a former restaurant owner and was of the Church of Christ belief.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcella Davis of Lafe; a grandson, Michael Vaughn of Hawaii; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Roswell; her parents, Joe and Edith Hyde; a brother; and a grandson.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Pine Knot Cemetery, with Wilburn Griggs officiating. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be James Hunt, James Hunt Jr., Joe Hyde, Wilburn Griggs, John Hunt and Chris Hunt.

Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 


Frank R. Church


SPRING LAKE, MICH. - Frank R. Church of Spring Lake, Mich., formerly of Pocahontas, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the North Ottawa Hospital in Grand Haven, Mich. He was 93.
He was born Nov. 7, 1909, in Pocahontas. He had lived in Michigan since 1953 and had been employed at Lappo Lumber for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran who served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick and Lillie (King) Church; his wife, Lillie Lillian Ddhoritey; three sons, Roy Elmo, Billy Wayne and Elbert Church; six sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include five sons, C.D. Viva Nell Farley

PARAGOULD -- Funeral services for Viva Nell Farley, 84, of Paragould, who died Wednesday Jan. 29, in Sullivan, Ill., have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel.

The Rev. Sam Stewart and the Rev. Marion Gramling will officiate, and burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Bryant, Elwyn Shewmaker, Glenn Newberry, Alvin Miller, Frankie Pillow, Larry Faulkner and Tim Coggins.

Born in Beech Grove, she was a longtime resident of the Stanford community and was a retired cook at the Stanford School District. She was a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Mack Farley of Sullivan; three grandchildren, Cathrine Craig and Roger Farley, both of Sullivan, and Lesa Oathout of Bethany, Ill.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Otis Farley; her parents, Mack and Bessie Spicer Smith; a sister; and a brother.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Laverne Higgins Rowland

PARAGOULD -- Graveside services for Laverne Higgins Rowland, 89, of Paragould, who died Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Greene Acres Nursing Home, have been scheduled for 2 p.m. today in Linwood Cemetery.

Art Smith will officiate, and Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spring Grove Township in Greene County, she had worked as a waitress for Tony's Restaurant and was a member of 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. and Lula Higgins, four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 12:30-1:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Crowley's Ridge Academy or to the Children's Home in Paragould.

 


Cletes Wilburn Reagans


RECTOR - Cletes Wilburn Reagans of Rector died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was 67.
He was born July 9, 1935, in Mounds. He was employed with Lay's Trucking in California. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a brother, Wayne Reagans of Rector; and his mother, Della Morgan Russell of Rector.
Funeral services were held Jan. 31, 2003, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial followeddd in the Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
Pallbearers were Kelvin Reagans, Buel Cox, Tony Rowton, Darrell Smoot, Burnin Morgan, Steve Spicer and Randy Jackson.

Irene G. Williams

PARAGOULD -- Irene G. Williams, 82, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 30, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born in Senath, Mo., and was a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Cude of Hoxie, Glenda Hanks of Lafe and Sue Wells of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Fredia Jackson of Arbyrd, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Williams; a son, Leon Williams; and her parents, Andrew and Bertha Dalton.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Buster Morris and Royce Schanda officiating. Burial will follow in Lulu Cemetery at Senath.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PARAGOULD — Scott E. Eagan, 29, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 30, in Paragould.
Born in Benton Harbor, Mich., he attended New Beginnings Church.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Eagan of Paragould; his parents, Charles and Sandra Hyde Eagan of Paragould; one daughter, Monica Eagan of Paragould; a paternal grandmother, Marian Brogdon of Conroe, Texas; maternal grandparents, Willie and Imogene Hyde of Paragould; and one brother, Bradley A. Eagan of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greene County Memorial Gardens, with Larry Bulla officiating. The funeral procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould at 9:50 a.m.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 


Sylvester Leon Edwards


MEMPHIS, TENN. - Sylvester Leon Edwards of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Paragould, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Ava Maria Nursing Home in Bartlett, Tenn. He was 89.
He was born Sept. 5, 1913, in Paragould. He was a retired truck driver. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and he was a veteran who served in the United States Marines. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Memphis, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jennie Edwards.
Survivors include a son, James Calvin Edwards of Memphis, Tenn.; three daughters, Alice Faye Clay of Albuquerque, N.M., Sally Howell of Cordova, Tenn., and Sharon Edwards of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Hurchel Edwards of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Virginia Swafford of Paragould; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Feb. 1, 2003, at Greene County Memorial Gardens with Jim Whitney officiating.
Pallbearers were Jeff Howell, Rick McDaniel, Don Purcell and Richard Honeycutt.

Otis Dewain Stevens


JONESBORO - Otis Dewain Stevens of Jonesboro died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was 62.
He was born Oct. 10, 1940, in Trumann. He lived in Jonesboro for 15 years. He was formerly of Harrisburg. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. He was of the Baptist belief.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Stevens.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Stevens of the home; five sons, Kenneth Stevens of Dover, David Stevens of Memphis, Tenn., James Beatty of Lawton, Okla., Paul andd David Beatty, both of Jonesboro; three daughters, Debra Blaylock and Sandy Williams of Memphis, Tenn., and Amanda Blankenship of Jonesboro, three brothers, Johnny Stevens of St. Louis, Mo., and Jerry and Larry Stevens, both of Harrisburg; a sister, Earlene Davis of Ola; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Feb. 1, 2003, at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Troy Prince officiating.

Clarence Melvin Boone

MARMADUKE -- Clarence Melvin Boone, 89, of Marmaduke died Friday, Jan. 31, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born in Marmaduke, he had worked as a custodian for Marmaduke School and was a longtime member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Piccola Boone of Paragould; a daughter, Melba Beaton of Marmaduke; two stepdaughters, Shirley Jackson and Barbara Mullins, both of Paragould; a stepson, Bill "Buddy" Adams of Marmaduke; two grandchildren; Carmen Crocker of Paragould and Kevin Beaton of Russellville; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Drope Boone; his parents, James and Thresa Boone; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector, with Adrian Parker and Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Cudd Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Pallbearers will be Dwight Vangilder, Joe Vangilder, Joe Max Boone, Billy Boone, Dewayne Boone and James Lindsey.

Honorary pallbearers will include Charlie Shelby, Maurice Bateman, W.O. Layer, Bill Vangilder and James Vangilder.

Goldie McDonald


PARAGOULD -- Goldie McDonald, 82, of Paragould died Friday, Jan. 31, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Pollard, she was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Daniel S. McDonald of Corning.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Angust K. McDonald and Ella B. Stephens, a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Ermert Funeral Home of Corning, with the Rev. Ernie Rank officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery at Pollard.

Ruby Gibson Millsaps


BONO - Ruby Gibson Millsaps of Bono died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Beverly Health & Rehabilitation Center in Jonesboro. She was 86.
She was born April 19, 1916, in Arkansas. She lived most of her life in Bono. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Hoxie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Millsaps; a son, Eugene Millsaps; and a brother.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Paul Millsaps of Bono and Charles J. Millsaps of San Pablo, Calif.; four daughters, Colleen Francis Adams of Jonesboro, Imogene Laverne Nibblett of Paducah, Ky., Marsha Harris of Temple, Ga., and Freda Goldie Stout of Oklahoma; a brother, J.C. Gibson of St. Louis, Mo.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 5, 2003, at the Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro with Rebecca Lapiro officiating. Burial followed in the Trinity Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Thompson, Phillip Brunson, Rick Burns, Scott Maronde, and Cecil and Bobby Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were the men of the congregation at the Church of Jesus Christ in Hoxie.
