Berlin Howard ARCHER, 91 a resident of the Pargould Nursing Center, died
Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. He was born July 25,
1906, in Paragould. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired auto
mechanic. He was a member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ. Survivors
include four nephews, includeing Jim Archer of Desloge, Mo. The funeral will
be at 1:30 today at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould with Edgar J Dye officiating. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glen Hunter, Jack Taylor, Herbert Starr, Weldon McClure, L.D. Hensley and Glen Tyner.

Ada Bell TRIPLETT, 95, of Marmaduke died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. She was born Nov. 12, 1902, in the Stanford community. She was the retired owner/operator of Ada's Beauty Shop in Paragould. She was a member of Marmaduke United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayes A. Triplett; and her parents, Oliver Carroll and Mary Elizabeth Pillow Hunt. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joy Ruth and W.C. O'Connor of Marmaduke; a sister Ruby Sonnenburg ofParagould; and numerous other relatives. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould with the Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will e at Warren's Chapel Cemetery in Paragould.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Bryce Thomas WARD, infant son of Brad and Brenda Ward of Springdale, died
Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Arkansas Chldrens Hospital in Little Rock. He was
preceded in death by a sister Jenifer Nicole. Survivors include his parents;
his grandparents, Lenora Ward of Springdale, Sylvia Burnett of Siloam Springs
and Jerry White of Rogers; his great-grandparents, Edith Johnson of Paragould
and Helen White of Springdale. A graveside service service held Sunday at
Bluff Cemetery in Springdale with Paul Woodhouse and Gary White officiating.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Sisco Funeral Home in
Springdale.

Merl E. YORK, 74, of West Frankfort, Ill. died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at
Barnes- Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born Marcy 21, 1923, in Greene
County. She retired from Allen Ind. in Herri, Ill. and was a seamstress and
quilter. She was of Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Hervie and Lillie Huffman Ellington; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Tom Nolen of West
Frankfort; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ben Baine, and Ray and Carol Baine, all of West Frankfort, John T. II and Roberta Baine of Mt. Vernon, Ill. and Thomas Jr. and Phyllis Baine of Mulkeytowon, Ill; two sisters, Pearl Davis and Imogene Flannery, both of Paragould; 10 grandsons; eight granddaughters; and 17 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with the Rev. Alan Summers officiating. Burial will be at Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be a 6 tonight at the funeral home.

Charay Lynn RICHMOND, 16, of Success died Jan. 1, 1998, at Elvis Presley
Trauma Center in Memphis. She was born Dec. 8, 1981 in Paragould. She was a
member of the SeniorGirls Basketball Team, Tract, Community Softball Team and
Future Homemakers of American Treasurer and a member of the Spanish Club. She
also was a member of Palatka Church of Christ. Survivors include her parents,
Billy and Connie Richmond of Success; a brother, Trvis Richmond of Success;
and her paternal grandparents, Bill Richmond and Minnie Dodd,, both of
Corning. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ermert Funeral Home in
Corning with Bill Cline officiating. Burial will be at Black Cemetery in
Success. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 this evening. The family requests
memorials be made tot he Corning Community Center.

J. C. HILL, 74, of Bay died Thurday, Jan. 1, 1998 at Methodist Hospital of
Joneboro. Mr. Hill was born Sept. 3, 1923 in Ardmore, Alabama He was a
retired truck driver from Bay Co-op. He attended Bay Assembly ofGod. He was
preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Ray Hill; and one sister, Pearl Turman.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Lucille Hill of the home; three sons,
Kenneth Ray Hill and Jerry Wayne Hill both of Fariview, Indiana and Cleveland J. Hil of Harrisburg; three daughters, Sharon Kay Hill, Judy Ann Stinson and Sherry Ann Hill all of Bay; three sisters, Irene Wells of Bay, Janetta Furnich of Horn Lake, Miss., and Lucille Hall of Jonesboro; four brothers, Hoard Hill of Trumann, Calvin Hill of Jonesboro, Roy Hill of Olive Branch, Miss., and Tellus Hill of Marked Tree; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 3 at Bay Assemblyof God with Rev. Vernie Harris officiating. Burial followed at Pine Log Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Vernon Davis, Nicholas West, Bob Turman, Gary Turman,
Darrell Kirby and Rick Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Joe Holt,

Verbyl Lester BELCH, 83, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. She was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Craighead County. She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mattie Craig Woods; three brothers, Albert Woods, Leonard Clvin Woods and Craig Woods; and two sisters, Eula Horton and Mazie Gardner. Survivors include a son, Wayne Belchof Paragould, a daughter, Shirley Oswalt of Greybull of Wy.; two sisters, Mable Barrett of Paragould and Lillie Wilson of Oil Trough; two gandchldren, Mike Oswalt of Seattle, Wash., and Gale Sosa of Casper, Wy.; and a great-grandson, Michael Sosa of Casper. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Health Funeral Home in Paragould with the Rev. Rudy Ring officiating. Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. Christene Lee TURNER, 75, of Corning died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at St.
Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born Nov. 7, 1922, in Randolph County. She worked on the family farm and was a homemaker and
member of Moark Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Willard Sargo and a sister, ida Lou Lemmons. Survivors include her husband,
Cecil Turner of Corning; a son, McDowell Turner of Neelyville, Mo.; two
daughters, Brenda Spence of Altmore, Ala., and Jennifer Williams of Corning;
two brothers, Ray Sago and Joh Sago, both of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren;
and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ermert
Funeral Home in Corning with the Rev. Billy Snow officiating. Visitation will
be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Emma Ruth GRAVES, 87 of Flint, Mich., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 in Flint.
She was born July 30, 1910. She was a homemaker and of Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Graves. Survivors include a
son and daughte-in-law, Donald and Linda Graves of Montrose, Mich.; two
daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Higgins of Stanwood Wash., and Ann and
Mickey Clifford of New Lothrop, Mich.; two sisters, Bernice McCord and Eva
Hayes, both of Paragould; and 11 grandchildren. The funeral will be 2 p.m.
Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould. Burial will be in Woodland

Janice Smith WESTBROOK, 53, of Germantown, Tenn., died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her home. She was a member of the Independent Presbyterian Church and was incoming president of the Baptist School of Nursing Alumni and MIFA. Survivors include her husband, James L. Westbrook of Germantown; two sons, Brandon Lee Westbrook and Brent Allen Westbrook, both of Germantown; a daughter Blair Ann Westbrook of Germantown; her mother, Bessie Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Betty Johnson of Eads, Tenn; a brother, Jack Smith of Memphis; and her husband's parents, Bill and Bess Westbrook of Memphis. Leonard Alvie EDGAR, 73, of Pargould died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 at St.
Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born July 21, 1924, in
Beech Grove. A retired painter and a World War II veteran, he was a member of the True Holiness Church of Paragould. e was preceded in death by his father, Truman Edgar. Survivors include is wife, Mildred Edgar of Paragould, his mother, Dona Edgar Blanton of Paragould; two sons, Leonard Edgar Jr. and
Kenneth Edgar, both of Paragould; three daughters Sharon Polk of Phoenix,
Ariz, Kathy Johnston of Joneboro and Debbie V. Leisure of Paragould; four
brothers, Homer Edgar, Raymond Edgar and Carlon edgar, all of Paragould and
Leland Edgar of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Edna Coln of Paragould; nine
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.
Sunday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould with the Rev. Cecil Winberry
officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from

Emma Ruth GRAVES, 87, of Flint, Mich, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 in Flint.
Shew as born July 20, 1910, in Greene Cunty. She was a homemaker and of the
Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Graves; and
two sons, Gerald Graves and Gene Graves. Survivors include a son and

Samuel Eugene MORROW, 77 of Mishawaka, Ind. died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1998 at his home. He ws born Jan. 1, 1921 in Paragould. e was retired from Uniroyal, a lifetime member of VFW Post 360, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Jefferson and Current Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl Pillow Morrow. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Jean and Dan Church of Cheynne, Who.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dannie Eugene and Susan Morrow of Niles Mich., John Frank Morrow of Michawaka,, Ind.; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Carol and Joe Rager of Elkhart, Ind.; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Jerry and Pat King of Mishawaka and Homer King of Suth Bend, Ind.; two sisters, Lucille Poque of Mishawaka and Exah McMinnimen of Paragould; two brothers and sisters-in-law,Ellis and Hettie Morrow of Paragould and Billy Joe and Pat Morrow of Fort Worth, Texas; 12 grandchldren, including Becky Pearl Morrow whom they raised and four great-grandchldren. Mayme SHEARER, 92, of Paragould died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould. She was born Jan. 27, 1905 in Brookland. A retired school teacher, she was a member of the Eastern Star and Amaranth and the Church of God. Survivors include a brother, Cecil Shearer; two sisters, Helen Woods of Brookland and Edith Potter of Los Alamos, N.M.; a sister-in-law, Verga Shearer of Waterford, Mich.; a nephew, Garland Sheareer of Brown City, Mich.; six nieces Mary Beth Webster of Orion, Mich., Jane Shearer Edwards of Chesterfield, Mo., Martha Woods Norwood of Thousand Lakes, Calif, Juanita Woods Hughes of Memphis, Tenn., Nancy Potter Porter of Salt Lake City, Utah, Janet Potter Argo of Cairo, Egypt; and several great nieces and nephews. Nursing Center. She was born Nov. 10, 1930 in Missouri. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Grove Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Niswonger Robinson. Survivors include her husband, Carvin Whelchel of Marmaduke; two daughters, Linda Darlene Brady of Rector and Teresa Lewis of Marmaduke; four sons, Carvin Allen Whelchel, Carl Donald Whelchel and Tim Whelchel, all of Paragould. Audie Mae BURTON, 92, of Paragould died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. She was born May 30, 1905, in Greene County. She was a homemaker and member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and etta Higgins; her husband, Jack Burton; and an infant son, Ralph Weldon Burton. Survivors nclude three sons, Winston Burton of Jonesboro, Leon Burton of Huntsville, Ala., and Terry Burton of Garland, Texas; a daughter, Aletta Brummett of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-granchildren. She was a homemaker and member of Souls Harbor Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Utah Blankenship and her parents, Tom and Pearl Jones Blcok. Survivors include four sons, Dennis Blankenship of Bono, Eddie Blankenship and Ronnie Blankenship, both of Stanford and James "Bud" Blankenship of Lathrop, Calif.; three daughters Loretta Hallman of ayson, Ariz., and Wilma McCreless and Laveda Staton, both of Paragould; a brother, Jerry Black of Paragould; a sister, Mary Noles of Walcott; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Vonda Louise BOONE, 67, of Memphis, formerly of Rector, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at her home. She was born Au. 7, 1930, in Clay County. She was a
member of the 5th and Pine Church of Christ in Rector. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Bill and Minnie Hardin; two husbands, Junior Cossey and
Wilbert Boone; and a brother, Billy Bryon Hardin. Survivors include three
sons, Bill Cossey of Prescott,, Sam Cossey of Jonesboro and Kenneth Boone of
Memphis; a sister, Veda Hobbs of Conway; and nine grandchildren. The funeral

Ruby M. KIRKPATRICK, 86, of Marmaduke died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. She was born April 4, 1911, in Rector. She was a homemaker and member of Ninth and Hafford Church of Christ in Rector. She was preceded in death by her husband, Slim Kirkpatrick; her parents, William and Sarah Long; a daughter, Jean Kirkpatrick; two brothers, John Long and Dub Long, and two sisters, Gladys Boyd and Marie Grubbs. Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Bateman of Marmaduke and Dean Wiley of Independance, Mo.; three sisters, Dorthy Hall of Riverside, Calif., Clara Lawson of Dayton, Ohio and Murl Kinder of Dexter, Mo.; two grandsons; five granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. Pauline Alme LAWS, 76, of Paragould, formerly of Rector, died Saturday, Jan.
3, 1998 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. She was born Sept. 14, 1921, in Rector.
She was a homemaker and member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ in
Paragould. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Eugene "Pete" Laws; her parents, Evertt and Hattie Marie Combs Dalton; and a granddaughter, Teresa Birmingham. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Willard Maronay of Paragould and Patricia and Douglas George of Booneville, Miss.; a brother, Floyd Dalton of Paragould; a sister, Ruthie Smith of Wynne; two grandchildren, Traci Davis and Holly Poole; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. F. Moela Boozer SWANSON, 79, of Wynne, formerly of Paragould, died Friday, Jan 2, 1998, at her home. She ws born June 4, 1918 in Walcott. she was a homemaker and member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter of Forrest City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred V. Swanson; her parents, Tom Boozer and elsie Rughing Denbow. Survivors include two sons, Carl A. Swanson of Hopkinville, Ky., and Curtis Swanson of Wynne; a daughter, Charlotte Rockwell of Kerrville, Texas; a sister, Doris Lambert of Baker, Fla.; six granchildren; and nice great-

Marilyn CLUBB, 53, of Marmaduke died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Methodist
Hospital in Joneboro. She was born Sept. 30, 1944, in Greene County. She was
the president of Clubb Construction Co., Inc. and a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Chester Penney.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Clubb of Marmaduke; her mother Henrietta Penney of Marmaduke; a son, Devin Clubb of Marmaduke; two daughters and a son-in-law, Renee and Rick Curtwright of Jonesboro and Julie Ann Baker of Rector; a brothers, Eugene Penney of Blytheville, seven grandchildren, Justin beggs, Megan Curtwright, Jessica Beggs, Janae Beggs, Keelie Baker, Kasey Baker and Peyton Clubb. Lola Mae DOWDY, 84, of Greene Acres Nursing Home died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. She was born Sept. 17, 1913, in Greene County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Alexander Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Grace Bateman; her husband, Leonard Dowdy; a son, Charles Edward Dowdy; a son, Charles Edward Dowdy; and a duaghter, Erma Dowdy. Survivors include four sons, Bufford Dowdy of Van Buren, Mo., Grayson Dowdy, Junior Dowdy and Billly Joe Dowdy, all of Pargould; a daughter, Irene Evans of Oran, Mo.; a sister, Marie Casler of Oran; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and nine great-granchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Ronnie Reeves and Marc Reeves officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery. Otis B HUFFMAN, 62, of Joneboro died Friday Jan. 2, 1998 at his home. He was born in Wickliffe, Ky., but had lived in Joneboro since 1963. He was a retired production supervisor for ADT in Jonesboro and was of Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Otis and Dovie Conner Huffman; a half brother, William Griffith; a sister, Dorothy Stewart; a brother, Owen Huffman; and a daughter Beverly Ann Huffman. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Banks Huffman of Jonesboro; a daughter, Beverly Judd of Jonesboro; a son, Otis Huffman, Jr. of Granite City, Ill.; three sisters, Eva Jane Johnson of
Hartford, Mich., and Marie Newsom and Mae Belle Pietroytys, both of Paragould. Two brothers, Henry B. Huffman of Pullman, Mich., and Douglas Huffman of Kalamazoo, Mich.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro with the Rev. Barbara Ann RHAMA, 55, of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998 at St.
Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Joneboro. She was born Sept. 12, 1942,
in Rector. She was a homemaker and a home health aide for the Area Agency on Aging in Jonesboro. She was a Protestant. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Bill Rhama; and her father, Loy Jackson. Survivors include her
mother, Ailene Jackson of Paragould; and two sisters,Carol Lynn Lowe of
Paragould and Loretta Mitchell of Viola. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunay
at Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Lonnie Hood officiating.

Charay Lynn RICHMOND, 16, of Success died Jan. 1, 1998, at Elvis Presley
Trauma Center in Memphis. She was born Dec. 8, 1981 in Paragould. She was a
member of the Senior Girls Basketball Team, Tract, Community Softball Team and Future Homemakers of American Treasurer and a member of the Spanish Club. She also was a member of Palatka Church of Christ. Survivors include her parents, Billy and Connie Richmond of Success; a brother, Trvis Richmond of Success; and her paternal grandparents, Bill Richmond and Minnie Dodd,, both of Corning. J. C. HILL, 74, of Bay died Thurday, Jan. 1, 1998 at Methodist Hospital of
Joneboro. Mr. Hill was born Sept. 3, 1923 in Ardmore, Alabama He was a
retired truck driver from Bay Co-op. He attended Bay Assembly ofGod. He was
preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Ray Hill; and one sister, Pearl Turman.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Lucille Hill of the home; three sons,
Kenneth Ray Hill and Jerry Wayne Hill both of Fariview, Indiana and Cleveland J. Peck LADYMAN, 82, of Corning died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Doctors Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Jan. 16, 1998 (?), in Knob. He was a farm
laborer. Survivors include a daughter, Genell Shannon of Paragould; a son,
James Richard Ladyman of Paragould; two sisters, Elizabeth Futrell of
Rockford, ARk., and Hazel Pruvis of Pontiac, Mich.; a brother, Cecil Ladyman
of Rector; a friend who was like a daughter, June Hamilton of Corning; six
grandchildren; 14 reat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Christene Lee TURNER, 75, of Corning died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at St.
Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born Nov. 7, 1922, in Randolph County. She worked on the family farm and was a homemaker and
member of Moark Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Willard Sargo and a sister, ida Lou Lemmons. Survivors include her husband,
Cecil Turner of Corning; a son, McDowell Turner of Neelyville, Mo.; two
daughters, Brenda Spence of Altmore, Ala., and Jennifer Williams of Corning;
two brothers, Ray Sago and Joh Sago, both of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren;

Emma Ruth GRAVES, 87 of Flint, Mich., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 in Flint.
She was born July 30, 1910. She was a homemaker and of Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Graves. Survivors include a

Leonard Alvie EDGAR, 73, of Pargould died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 at St.
Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born July 21, 1924, in
Beech Grove. A retired painter and a World War II veteran, he was a member of the True Holiness Church of Paragould. e was preceded in death by his father, Truman Edgar. Survivors include is wife, Mildred Edgar of Paragould, his mother, Dona Edgar Blanton of Paragould; two sons, Leonard Edgar Jr. and
Kenneth Edgar, both of Paragould; three daughters Sharon Polk of Phoenix,
Ariz, Kathy Johnston of Joneboro and Debbie V. Leisure of Paragould; four
brothers, Homer Edgar, Raymond Edgar and Carlon edgar, all of Paragould and
Leland Edgar of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Edna Coln of Paragould; nine
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.

Claribel Cupp WHITE, 75, of Joneboro, formerly of Paragould, died Friday,
Jan. 16, 1998, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was
born in Light. She was a retired high school teacher and elementary teacher.
A graduate of Arkansas State University, she taught school for 26 years at
Egypt and 10 years at Light and Stanford. She was a member of Alpha Gamma
Delta Sorority and Central Baptist Chruch. Survivors include a son, Lt. Col.
Ronald Faulkner of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a daughter, Connie Colmer of Overland
Park, Kan.; three brothers Vance Cupp, Jr., Pete Cupp and James Cupp, all of
Light; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be
at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro with the Rev. Mike Martin
and the Rev. Jerry Muckenstrum officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Gregg Funearl Home in
Jonesboro. Pallbearers will be Jim Miller, Vance Cupp, III, Jackson Corthern,
