Mrs. Dorothy Louise Smallman

As Angels hovered above her, gently lifting her spirit into the heavenly hands of God, Dorothy Moore Smallman, age 81, passed from this earth peacefully February 2, 2013, at the Phil and Flo Jones Hospice House. She was born September 9th, 1931 in Paragould, Arkansas to Irene Phillips and Clyde Moore. Her childhood was happy and filled with love. She graduated from Brookland High School. Always kind, smiling and fun, she was voted by her student body as Miss Congeniality. That was one of her fondest high school memories.

While attending BHS, “Dot” as her friends called her; met Clarence Smallman; her Prince Charming—and it was love at first sight. They married on April 2nd, 1954. Being a mother was central to Dorothy's life. She was a constant example of Christ, especially evident in the nurturing of her family. Life is all about choices, and Dorothy always chose kindness. If you have met her, you would have felt the Savior's love. She never said an unkind word about anyone. She loved others the way the Savior asked us to love—unconditionally and without reserve.

They had two children, Teresa Smallman Honeycutt of Jonesboro and Dean Allen Smallman of Little Rock, Arkansas. An older brother is buried in Orange County, California. They were born to a mother who cherished them and their differences; a mother who was constant in her love, guidance and example. All of her children knew without doubt how much they were loved. Her grandchildren also felt that never-ending love. She spent every moment she could with them, cuddling and nurturing them. Her home was always open and everyone felt welcomed and known by her. She was a mother to all those around her- old and young, rich or poor.

Dorothy indulged in lifelong learning-- had an amazing spirit, and cherished doing for others. She loved nothing better than sharing the fruits of her gardening talents. She was an accomplished seamstress- and made her daughters' wedding dress. She drafted designs for her homes, and Clarence built them for her. Dorothy chose music as her talent and love. She played the piano, and found great joy in music; having the gift of a soaring soprano voice. She instilled a love of music in her children, and was happiest when singing. She shared her talent by happily accompanying vocalists at church. There was always music playing in her heart. Clarence would often ask her what song was in her head and she would name the song and composer and hum him a few lines. Or maybe they would jump up and jitterbug around the house. They lived 50 years of glorious love and are NOW together again. Heaven will be richer because of her music.
Dorothy happily chose to spend her days in service of others. She was a proud and faithful member of The Nettleton Church of Christ. After 30yrs of service for both at Colson - she and Clarence enjoyed more than anything- after retirement; spending time with their only grandson: Tyler Allen Smallman.
Dorothy’s choice in life- was to constantly be by her husband’s side; to follow Clarence to the distant corners of the earth. Clarence served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Wherever he was’ whatever he chose to do…Dorothy was by his side. When her eternal love and companion in life was diagnosed with a grave illness; Dorothy chose optimism and faith. She led her family with her example of turning to Christ and finding strength in Him. She chose to be humble. She chose to be loving. She chose to be charitable. And her children watched and learned. They know where to turn for peace because they watched their mother find it in Christ.

We now choose to honor her legacy by being happy, ever-serving and faithful; and celebrating the life of a wonderful lady. She is preceded in death by her adoring husband; her parents; and three brothers, Luther, Melvin and Donald Moore.
She is survived by her children and her grandson; as well as one daughter-in-law, Jill Smallman; a sister-in-law and lifelong friend; Nettie Moore; a brother in law, Lawrence Smallman and sister-in-law; Mary Smallman; nieces, Vickie, Linda and Karen Smallman and nephew Steve Smallman; and a brother-in-law, Richard Smallman of Casper, WY. It would be amiss not to also include those who helped her so much during times of need the past two years; Glenda Carr, Anna Rutherford, and Carol Johnson. We also wish to thank the excellent care giving and love shown to Mom at the Phil and Flo Jones Hospice House.
A Celebration of her life will be Friday, February 8th, 1:00 p.m. at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home with the service performed by Reverend Jimmy Young. Interment: Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Dennis Gregory, Erik Edmonds, Elbert Carr, Ted Davis, Jody Brown and Paul Harrison.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, February 7th, 5:00 until 7:00 in the year of our Lord 2013.
