Michael Scott Metz



Michael Scott Metz, 39, formerly of Paragould, passed away January 27, 2011, at Scarborough, Maine.

Born March 14, 1971, at Superior, Arizona, he was a cook and construction worker.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Brenda Metz of Paragould, and a brother, Gary Don Metz of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Toby Lee Metz.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, February 26th, 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Full Gospel Church with Ada Nunley officiating. Arrangements are by Mitchell Funeral Home.

Melissa Kay Curtis



Melissa Kay Curtis, 56 of Marmaduke passed away February 1, 2011 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born April 5, 1954 to Tom and Mattie Barber.

Preceding Melissa in death was her mother: Mattie (Young) Barber, a sister: Donna Barber, her brother: Dennis Barber and her father-in law: Auta (Ike) Curtis.

She is survived by her husband: Steve Curtis, her father: Tom Barber of Rector, a sister and her husband: Brenda Barber and Richard Wells of Little Rock, a nephew: Baker Wells, her mother-in-law: Mary Curtis of Marmaduke, brother-in-laws: Jimmie Curtis and Ronnie and his wife, Gloria Curtis.

Graveside services will be Thursday, February 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. at the Woodland Heights Cemetery with Kim Bridges officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector.

Tina Lucinda Smith
 


Tina Lucinda Smith, 81, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Mrs. Smith was born September 4, 1929, in Stonewall, Arkansas, and was of the Baptist faith. She retired in 2007 from Wal-Mart where she worked in the deli and as a door greeter.

Survivors include her husband, George Smith of the home; and two sisters, Mabel Rottler of St. Louis, and Frankie Mae Russom of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her parents, F. C. and Carie Copeland; and three brothers, Eugene Copeland, Irvin “Buddy” Copeland, and Delbert Copeland.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5th, 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Everett Isom officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Glen Edward Howard
 


Glen Edward Howard, 79 of Paragould passed away Wednesday February 2, 2011at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Glen was born December 31, 1931. He was retired from Emerson Electric and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Clifford and Della Lee Edwards Howard; daughter, Rita Stanfill; brothers Charlie and Eugene Howard; sisters, Thelma Pickney, Wanda Howard and Barbara Stevens.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Liz Howard of the home; daughter, Gayla Weatherford of Paragould; sister, Maxine Lawson of Paragould; grandchildren. Jason (Carla) Weatherford, Autumn (Brian) Hicks, Jessica (Josh) Farmer, Corey (Amanda) Weatherford, Andrew Gander; great grandchildren, Carlee and Kinlee Weatherford, Addison Farmer and Carter Hicks.
Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at the Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5th, at 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. John Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Thomas Michael Vaughan



Thomas Michael Vaughan, 37, Marmaduke, passed away Thursday February 3, 2011 at his residence. He was born January 31, 1974 in Warren County, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Vaughan and father, Michael Thomas Vaughan.

He is survived by his daughter: Kaitlyn Marie Vaughan of Marmaduke; mother: Pamela Vaughan of Norlina, NC; sister: Amber Wanda Vaughan of Norlina, NC.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel, Tuesday, February 8th, 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Wayne Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at Ramer’s Chapel Cemetery. Elfreda Fears



Elfreda Garner Fears, 82, of Paragould, passed away Thursday February 3, 2011 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born July 29, 1928 in Beech Grove, Arkansas the daughter of the late Robert S. and Delphia Howard Garner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Fears. She was a homemaker and a member of the Walcott Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughters: Donna Archer of Paragould, Cathy Reeves of Meridian, MS; sons: Ronnie Fears of Stanford, Jerry Dale Fears of Covington, GA; sisters: Lois Martin of Jonesboro, Nye Cureton of Cash; Faye Green of St. Louis, MO; brothers: Ambrose Garner of Tampa, FL; Neal Garner of Searcy.

The family will receive friends Saturday 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel, Sunday, 2:00 p.m. with Art Smith officiating.
Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Mervin Owen Lewis

 

Mervin Owen Lewis, 95, passed from this life Thursday, February 3, 2011, at St. Bernard's Medical Center

He was born September 24, 1915 to Charlie Ross and Martha Ethel Lewis in Paragould. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Milas Lewis; one sister, Vaniece Williams; and one nephew, Gary Williams.

Mr. Lewis served as Staff Sergeant for Company A, 381st Infantry, U. S. Army during World War II. He participated in the Philippine and Okinawa Campaigns earning a purple heart and bronze star.

After the war, he was co-owner of Paragould Soybean Company, a developer, a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church, and a Life-Member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Lewis; his step-daughter, Kathryn Sturdivant of Jonesboro; a nephew, Terry Lewis of Jonesboro; two nieces, Brenda Lemmons of Paragould, and Carol Champlin of Holcomb, Missouri.

The family will receive visitors at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould, Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5th, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Martin, Rudy Hufford, Larry Cleaves, Max Adams, Scott Lemmons, and Danny Thomas.

Charles Thomas Yauger Jr.

 

Mr. Charles “Charlie” Thomas Yauger Jr. was born Tuesday, December 10, 1935, son of the late Charles Thomas and Ethel Bruce Yauger Sr.. He passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 75 years 1 month and 24 days. He was born in Wharton Township, PA, and had lived the past 36 years in Trumann.
Mr. Yauger was Retired Military serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the American Legion, where he served as the Poinsett County Commander, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Yauger was a dual member of Trumann and Jonesboro Masonic Lodge and was Past Worshipful Master of Trumann and was of the Baptist faith. Known to many as “Charlie”, he was well liked and respected in his community. Any place he went, he could find someone to talk to. He was outspoken, but had a kind and generous nature. He helped many people expecting nothing in return. He enjoyed coffee and heated discussions with friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Yauger, one brother, James Yauger, and his parents.

Survivors include two sons, Tony Reddick of Trumann and Terry Reddick of Marmaduke, Ark.; one daughter, Diane DeFries of Marmaduke, Ark.; mother-in-law, Mattylee Wright of Marmaduke, Ark.; two brothers, Clarence Yauger of Lemont Furnace, PA and Carl Yauger of Uniontown, PA; four sisters, Cecelia Skelton of Canton, OH, Minnie Shroyer of Lemont Furnace, PA, Ethel Custer of Hopwood, PA, and Connie Condreay of Stuart, FL; one sister-in-law, Josephine Yauger of Bedford, PA; eight grandchildren , nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 7th, 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, AR., with Rev. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould, AR.

Pallbearers will be Nathan McKelvey, Chris Dickinson, Cody Dickinson, Tom Firestone, and Skylar Higdon.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon February 6th, 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.

Liston Henry Crist, Jr.
 


Liston Henry Crist, Jr., 89, Paragould, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Born March 5, 1921, he was a WWII Navy Veteran, retired salesman, avid golfer and loved to build boats in bottles.

Survivors include his wife Mary Crist, of the home; daughter: Jody Gillispie of Columbia, MO; son: James Liston Crist of Downers Grove, IL; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Liston Henry, Sr. and Irene Flora Lacey Crist and three sisters.

Family and friends will meet Monday, February 7th, 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Paragould,. with Rev. Angie Gage officiating.

Frank Alford Henry
 

Frank Alford Henry, 88, Lake City, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Frank was born July 29, 1922 in Amarillo, Texas the son of the late William P. and Mattie Freda McDaniel Henry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Drucilla Woodson Henry, daughter, Jana Owen, and sister, Imogene Gilbert.
He retired from the United States Air Force as a Lt. Colonel after serving 32 years for the Department of Defense and was a WWII veteran.

Survivors include his son: Karl Henry of Warm Springs, Georgia; daughter: Ginny Owen of Centreville, Virginia; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather Friday, February 11th, 1:00 p.m. at Finch Cemetery for graveside services

Oma Cooper
 


Oma Cooper, 86, of Paragould, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011, at her home. She was born March 16, 1924, in Shuram, Arkansas.

She was a homemaker who raised her family with a heart filled with love, patience, warmth and great kindness. She touched all those she knew in a special way that will always be remembered. She was a gentle woman , and loved by all who knew her. Oma was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Eldora Songer, her sisters, Mamie Nipps and Cora Lee Massey, and her beloved husband of 63 years, Everett Bricen Cooper.

She is survived by nine children: Grady (Kaye) Cooper, Keith (Mary Jo) Cooper, Bruce (Teresa) Cooper, Elaine (Stanley) Clark, Vickie Hunt, Randy (Lola) Cooper, Diane Cooper, all of Paragould, Cindy (Jeff) Coleman of Raleigh, NC, and Kevin Cooper of Dallas, TX, twentyfive grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Brandon Cooper, Cameron Cooper, Jody Huckabee, D.J. Leisure, Steven Clark, Tony Cooper, Brad Warner and Jason Warner. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Cooper.

Avery Ellis Wogmon

 

Avery Ellis Wogmon, 81, Paragould passed away Monday February 7, 2011 in Little Rock. He was born August 13, 1929 in Paragould the son of the late Willie Edgar and Flossie Manis Wogmon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thalia Wogmon, son, Carl Wogmon, five brothers and three sisters. He was a retired employee of Coldstream Fisheries and a member of Sonlight Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter: Patricia Ann Stultz of Oak Grove; grandson: Cary Joe Walker; great granddaughter: Kylie Jo Walker, both of Light.

Karen L. Rowland, 63, Paragould, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. She was born February 10, 1947 in Paragould the daughter of the late Osmer and Delphia Jones Hampton. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Phillip Bearden. Karen was a hairdresser and devoted member of Tenth Street Missionary Baptist Church. She was an avid Republican, loved being a grandmother and loved traveling and sightseeing, especially in Hawaii.

She is survived by her husband: Darrel Rowland of the home: children: Kenny and Sharon Bearden of Paragould, Greg and Holly Bearden of Birmingham, AL, Kristy and Shawn Hager of Rector, Angie and Barry Burkheart of Paragould; siblings: Rusty Hampton of Michigan, Gene and Bonna Hampton of Saint Louis, MO, Ann Vangilder of Paragould and Katie Smith of MI; fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and one grandchild on the way.

Sharon Kay Milligan



Sharon Kay Milligan, 53, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Born June 17, 1957, in Paragould, she was a service shift supervisor at ASU.

Survivors include her father, Bill Pillow and his wife, Carolyn, of Paragould; her mother, Elsie Newton and her husband, Jim, of North Little Rock; three sons, Christopher Pillow of Paragould, and Jeramy Pillow and Nathan Kuehnert, both of Jonesboro. She is also survived by one half-brother, Dewayne Pillow of Paragould; three half-sisters, Kimberly Lyles, Kelly Brumley, and Shelly Cleveland, all of Paragould; and by four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Chris Pillow.

Visitation will be Thursday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Charles Coleman Walls, 67, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born July 30, 1943, in Manila, he retired from Plainwell Paper Mill, in Plainwell, Michigan. Charles was a member of Lake Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Walls of the home; his mother, Pauline Walls of Paragould; and two sons, John Walls of Poplar Bluff and Michael Walls and his wife, Karen, of Ostego, Michigan. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Sharon Walls of Oklahoma City; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Larry Russell of Paragould; and three grandchildren, Blake, Brandon, and Lane Walls.

He was preceded in death by his father, Coleman Walls; and one sister, Cathie Walls.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 12th, 10:30 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Gerald Ray Cole. 76 of Paragould passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at his residence. Born August 5, 1934, Gerald was of the Protestant belief and was a Metal Model Maker for Chrysler Automotive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Ray and Christine Holifield Cole and a sister, Joyce Kellems.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Cole of the home; son, James Robert Cole and daughter, Brenda Lee Cole both of Michigan; sister, Maxine White of Paragould; grandchildren Robert and Christopher Cole of Michigan.
No visitation is planned. Graveside services will be Saturday, February 12th, 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh Cemetery with Rev. Billy Joe Dowdy officiating.

Essie Olean Zeitler
 


Essie Olean Zeitler, 96, of San Antonio, TX. passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.

She was born August 9, 1914, at Beech Grove, AR. to the late Floyd Taylor and Dolly Taylor (Cooper). She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Zeitler; sister, Jean Taylor Mangrum; and brothers, Barney and Frank Taylor, Jack, Leo and Mayo Cooper.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis F. Zeitler and wife Diane of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., and Edward A. Zeitler and wife Marsha of San Antonio; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was a homemaker, factory worker and telephone operator. She lived much of her life in Maryland, Florida and Texas. She will be greatly missed for she touched so many hearts in so many ways.

Family only visitation was Thursday with cremation following at Meadowlawn & American Mortuary in San Antonio.

April Kidd Morris, 21 passed away on February 11, 2011, in Paragould. Born July 26, 1989, she had lived all her life in Paragould.

She worked for Green Acres Nursing Home in Paragould as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, William Kidd and Ed White.

Survivors include her husband, Derrick; son, Noah; and daughter Isabellah of the home; parents, Scott and Linda Kidd of Paragould; brother, Scotty Kidd and sister, Brittany Kidd, both of Paragould; maternal grandmother, Darlene White and finance Calvin Landreth; and paternal grandmother, Kathy Kidd.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, February 16th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Emerson Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated Thursday February 17th, 2:00 p.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Bobby Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Old Military Cemetery in Sedgwick.

Mrs. Lois Eason, 76, of Corning, AR., passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR. Mrs. Eason was born March 6, 1934 in Jonesboro, AR., she was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by her husband Jack Eason of Corning, AR.; seven sons Earl Eason and wife Janet of Poplar Bluff, MO., Archie Eason of Paragould, AR., Roger Eason and wife Evelyn of Corning, AR., Tim Eason and wife Christy of Paragould, AR., Leslie Eason and wife Kathy of Corning, AR., Kenny Eason and wife Brenda of Corning, AR., and Bradley Eason and wife Tammy of Corning, AR.; one brother Elmer Metcalf of Jonesboro, AR.; one sister Lettie Wilkerson of Jonesboro, AR.; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by parents Lee Summers and Margeret (Shelton) Summers-Metcalf; three brothers Curtis, Buddy, and Leslie Summers; and one sister Virginia Summers.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 14th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Moseley officiating. Burial will follow the service in Richwoods Cemetery.

Galen Louie Stuart
 


Galen Louie "Lou" Stuart, age 75, of Pine Bluff, departed this life Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born March 20, 1935, in Greene County, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Arthur Parvin and Dora Chambers Stuart.

Mr. Stuart was reared and received his early education in Benton and Paragould, graduating from Paragould High School in 1953. He often commented how privileged he was to have been reared in Benton and Paragould where every adult seemed to offer the best influences. After high school, he joined the United States Army. He served two years with the Corps of Engineers in Germany, and then worked a year as a civilian engineer in Southeast Asia. Upon his return to the states, he enrolled at Arkansas State University, where he received a double degree in Criminology and Economics.

He was a territory sales manager with the optical companies Baush and Lomb, and then Rodenstock from 1964 until 1995, when his failing health forced his early retirement. Mr. Stuart belonged to several professional optical organizations, serving on various boards and conducting seminars.

He was a Master Mason, a lifelong member at Paragould #368 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Galen, as he was known in Paragould, was proud of his years as a freemason. The last trip he made away from Pine Bluff was to receive his 50 year pin in 2008.

Mr. Stuart was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he was a former usher, lay reader and Sunday School teacher. He continued to support and visit his boyhood church, Woods Chapel in Paragould. Lou loved telling tall tales, studying his Bible, cooking and listening to music (particularly his son Mark's).

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur P. Stuart, Jr.; and sisters, Eutha Mae Adami and Evelyn Tennison.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jacquelyn Layton Stuart; his sons, Arthur Layton Stuart and his wife, Joy, of Pine Bluff and Mark Edgar Stuart and his wife , Emily, of Memphis, Tennessee; a grandson, Adam Stuart, of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Reba Chamberlain of Fresno, California and Kathaleen Hester of Paragould.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 16th, 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. Visitation in the church Parish Hall, will begin at 12:30 p.m. Immediately following the service the interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Shirley Hollis



Shirley Hollis, 74, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Belle Meade Healthcare.

She was born October 20, 1936, at Monette to the late Norvil and Laverne Hollis. Ms. Hollis retired after 28 years with Arkansas Methodist Hospital as a nurse. She was of the Assembly of God faith.

Survivors include six cousins and their spouses, Doris and Wayne Marshall of St. Peters, Mo., Margaret Jo and Ed Marshall of Auburn, Ala., John and Gladys Hollis of Three Oaks, Mich., Ron and Karan Hollis of Valley Grand, Ala., Doris and Fort Duley of Paducah, Ky., and Bonnie King of Egypt; and guardians, Jeff and Dena Gage of Paragould.

A celebration of her life will be held at noon Tuesday, February 15th, at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty Graple Pratt, 90, of Paragould passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011.

She was born November 13, 1920, in Decatur County, TN., to the late Will Dees and Evie Scott.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Friend of Paragould; grandson, Jerry Friend of Bono; sisters, Mildred Cox and Nell Lewis, both of Keiser, and Geneva Stewart of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; brother, Tommy Dees of Arkansas; and seven stepgrandchildren.

L. C. Ussery, 85, Paragould, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born April 6, 1925 in Greene County the son of the late Steve and Letter Ussery. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Velma and three brothers. L.C. was a retired plumber, Protestant and served his country in the Army during WWII.

Survivors include: Nola Ussery, of the home; son and daughter-in-law: J.C. and Sherma Ussery of Paragould; step-daughter and step-son-in-law: Martha Deborah & David Kelm of North Little Rock; granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Autumn and Scott Sanson of Villonia; grandson and granddaughter-in-law: Snapper and Sarah Ussery of Springfield; step granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Shannon and Matt Ford of Locust Grove, Georgia; five grandchildren: Ridge, Jett, and Sage Sanson, Maggie and Molly Ford.

Lillie Mae Gibson, 86, of Paragould, departed this life Sunday, February 13, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center after a short illness. She had resided at Heritage Gardens Nursing Center in Senath for the past two months. Mrs. Gibson was born March 10, 1924. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Osmer and Haydee White, husbands, Nolan Sanders, Larry Gibson, sister, Lorene Ward, brothers, Lewis White and Leonard White.

Survivors include daughter: Bonnie Ray of Paragould; son: Don (Linda) Sanders of Collierville, TN; sisters: Liz Howard, Marvel (Junior) Strope, both of Paragould, brother: George (Juanita) White, Glasgow, KY; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Special thanks to her caregivers at Heritage Gardens.

Charlene Andrews


Charlene Andrews, 87, of Walnut Ridge, passed away February 14, 2011, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab.

Born January 14, 1924, at Light, she was the daughter of Joe and Jesse Reed Noblin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Charlene and Johnnie Andrews were married November 22, 1941.

She was united in marriage to Johnnie Andrews November 22, 1941, he preceded her in death July 22, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her son, Theodore Andrews, and a daughter, Peggy Dacus.

Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Gwaltney, Hardy; a brother, Jack Noblin, St. Louis; two grandsons, John Andrews and wife Kim and Jason Andrews and wife Charity, all of Walnut Ridge; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler Andrews, Hayden Andrews, Savannah Andrews, Jacie Andrews, Zoey Andrews and Mikki Jo Andrews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday February 16th, at 2:00 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Paul McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Linda L. Flanagan, 61, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday February 15, 2011 at NEA Baptist Hospital. She was born July 18, 1949 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She was a stay at home mother and a member of Finch Baptist Church. Linda loved reading and collecting lighthouses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee M. and Mildred N. Drew Cook.

Survivors include her husband, Charles G. Flanagan; three daughters, Christine (Steven) Cambron of Jonesboro, LeeAnn (George) Hall of Lorado, and Melissa Flanagan of the home; ten grandchildren, Charles (Emily) Flanagan of Hubert, North Carolina, Lindsey Parham, Cordero Sims, Jessica Parham, Christopher Sims, Mathew Sims, William Robinson, Joseph Robinson, Lisa Flanagan and Nicholas Hood; two great grandchildren, Kassidy Taylor and Chelsi Flanagan; and two sisters, Nina McGehee of Woodstock, Illinois and Ruby Roper of Genoa, Illinois.

Visitation will be Friday, February 25th, 10:00 a.m. until noon at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Graveside services will begin at 12:30 pm at Nettleton Cemetery. Terry Gage will officiate.

Fledia Mildred Wrather, 86, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Born August 24, 1924, in Lafe, to Sidney and Virginia Mifflin, Mrs. Wrather was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Oscar Wrather; her parents; one brother, Cecil Mifflin; and two sisters, Sylvia Tritch and Linnie Kirklin.

Survivors include one son, Robert L. Wrather of Paragould; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Michael McDonald of Paragould, Brenda and Jerry Nelson of Jonesboro; and Linda and Claude Keeling of Trotwood, Ohio. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 19th, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Rick Ethridge officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday 11:00 a.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Kevin Terrance Reeves, 24, Paragould, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at his home. Kevin was born March 26, 1986 in Paragould. Kevin will be remembered by his family and friends for his mischievous smile and adventurous ways. He loved to be outdoors, spend time with his family, watch movies, listen to music, laugh and dance. Kevin met many struggles in his short adult life, but he faced them with hope found only in Jesus Christ whom he accepted as his personal Savior as a child at Walcott Baptist Church. Kevin grew up surrounded by the loving care of his Walcott Baptist and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church families. He is currently a member of West View Baptist Church where his Uncle Marc Reeves is pastor. Kevin was loved so much and we were blessed to have him in our lives. Our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin has found his eternal peace.

Survivors include his parents, Kim and Melinda Reeves; brother Kyle Reeves, all of the home; grandparents, Margaret Reeves of Oak Grove, J.M. and Belma Cossey of Walcott; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, L.C. Reeves, Uncle Chris Reeves, and Aunt Elizabeth Reeves Hunt.

She was born September 15, 1939 in Jonesboro to W.E. “Tom” and Beatrice “Bea” Kuykendall Willcockson. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Clara Van loved bird watching, cross stitching and most of all, spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Preston “Pete” Kirksey and her parents.

Survivors include her son, Curtis Kirksey of Walcott; two daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Michael Hayes of Sherwood, and Melissa and Marty Wynn of Walcott; six grandchildren, Jeffery Hayes, Stephanie Hayes, Kristin Summers, Brittany Lawrence, Katie Harter and Zachary Wynn; three great grandchildren, Isaac Summers, Ezekiel Summers and Chyna Summers; a brother and his wife, Harry Wayne and Shelby Willcockson of Walcott; and a sister, Ernestine Kennemore of Clearwater, FL.

Howard Gene "Bo" Tuberville, 53, Paragould, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born August 13, 1957 in Blytheville, AR. Howard was a maintenance man at Belle Meade Nursing Center and loved to ride his motorcycle, grill, and spend time at the river.

Mr. Eaker was born January 12, 1929, in Beech Grove, and was a farmer. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include two sisters, Reba Eaker, and Betty Johnson; and two nephews, Steve Johnson and Rickey Johnson, all of Paragould. He is also survived by his extended family, Lesa Swink, Denise Knuckles, Heath Farmer, Brooke Quinn, Brittany Ellis; and many other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. H. and Viola Eaker; five brothers, Wilbert, Wiley, Fred, Kenneth, and Gaylon Eaker; and by one sister, Freda Eaker.

She owned and operated a beauty shop in Flint, Michigan and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Palmer Monroe, 75 of Rector, formerly of Beech Grove passed away February 22, 2011 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born August 14, 1935 to the late William and Ethel (Rainey) Monroe in Wright City, Oklahoma.

Preceding him in death was his son: Greg White, two daughters: Teresa Herring and Susanne White and two sisters: Williamae Chadwell and Oneta Goodman.

He is survived by his wife: Billie Monroe, two daughters and a son-in-law: Janice Monroe of Glendale, Arizona, Darlene and Chuck Givens of Arkadelphia, a son and his wife: Robert and Lisa White of Rector along with a number of well loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Willis Arlan Bass
 

Willis Arlan Bass passed away February 22, 2011 at his home in Richmond, California.

Willis was born March 18, 1924 at the family farm outside of Paragould, Arkansas, the last of six children. His parents, Moses Price Bass and Augusta Estelle (Hancock) Bass lived in the Cotton Belt area near Paragould.

Willis graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1942. He served in the CCC camp at Ravenden Springs, Arkansas before enlisting in the Navy. His basic training took place at Farragut Naval Recruit Training Facility in Bayview, Idaho.

Willis was proud to have served on the USS Petrof Bay, an escort carrier, during WW II. His ship took part in the invasion of Okinawa and was also at the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay in 1945.

Willis married Betty Sue Price of Paragould, Arkansas on June 26, 1945. Their first son, Richard, was born in Paragould but the family moved shortly thereafter to Richmond where they settled. Their second son, Ron, was born in Oakland, followed by their daughter, Patricia, who was born at Mare Island where Willis served in the Navy during the Korean War.

Willis worked as a Traffic Manager at the Ford Motor Plant in Richmond then Oliver Tire & Rubber Company in Emeryville. During this time he was active in the Oakland Traffic Club and served as President of the club in 1968. He then worked for various trucking companies in Oakland and retired in 1986 from System 99.

He liked meeting new people and made treasured friendships that always cheered his life. He will be remembered for his country humor and good southern cooking.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, brothers Manley, Older, and William, sisters Edna (Beck) and Dina (Merkel), niece Reba Wait and nephew Gerald Von Beck.

Willis is survived by: sons Richard (Audrey) in San Francisco, Ron (Diane) in Diamond Springs, and daughter Patty (Vern) Burlingame in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. His Grandchildren are: Efram and Sara Burlingame, Eric Bass, Lisa Young, Cortney and Tim Bass. He had six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in California, Missouri, and Arkansas.

Visitation will be Friday evening, February 25th, 7:00 until 9:00 at Wilson & Kratzer’s Civic Center Mortuary from. Private interment will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the donor’s favorite charity in Willis’ memory.

Barney Elbert Howard


Barney Elbert Howard, 88, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday morning, February 23, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born October 26, 1922, in Paragould. Barney is survived by his loving wife, Bernice Howard, a daughter, and son-in-law, Shelia and Dennis Weaver, two sisters, Virgalene (Joe) DeHart and Willadean (Max) Sheffield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Runa Howard; a sister, Imogene; and brothers, Donald, Paul, Griffin, and Dallas; and a special nephew, Ray Hampton.

He was known as “Uncle Barney,” “Barn-o,” “Uncle B,” or “The B” to many special nieces and nephews. He loved them all. He has two special “grandsons,” Chris and Mike Hampton, and he adored Blake and Blair Hampton who thought of him as their “PaPaw.” He was an avid fisherman and everyone in Greene County would ask him for the location of his latest, favorite crappie fishing holes. He loved fishing and could tell the best fishing stories. His fishing efforts earned him his nickname, “Kingfish,” which he said was proudly bestowed upon him by his favorite son-in-law in the 1960’s. His special fishing and cooking stories, his genuine love for all people, and his always having a good time with people on his back patio made him so very special, and he was loved by all. He was the greatest dad a loving daughter could ever have.

Barney proudly served in World War II with the 250th Field Artillery Battalion with service in battles and campaigns in Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland, and Normandy. After the war, he worked as a farmer, truck driver, and used car dealer. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Family visitation will be Friday evening, February 25th, 5:00 until 6:00 at Heath Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends Friday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 following the family visitation, at the funeral home. His life will be celebrated Saturday, February 26th, 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Michael Sutton and Reverend Everett Isom officiating. Burial will follow at Finch Cemetery.

Serving as Pall bearers are Jim Burgess, Charles Martin, Cody Martin, Henry Howard, Joey DeHart, John Bibb, and Jimmy Hale.

Betty Jean Luker
 


Betty Jean Luker, 37, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born May 29, 1973 in Springdale, Arkansas, she was a homemaker and a member of Unity Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother Betty R. Gramling and her husband, Gary, of Paragould; one brother, J. Gary Gramling and his wife, Heather, of Ft. Riley, Kansas; and one nephew, Kraven Gramling.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Gene Luker; and her grandparents, Fred and Mable Luker, and Virgil and Irene Carter.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 28th, 1:30 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church with Tracy Archibald and Rudy Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church, Monday, from 12:00 noon until service time.

Johnny Gramling. Danny Barker, Claude Cook, George Smith, Rodney McClelland, Tom Wofford, Don Slatton, and Jess Summitt will serve as pallbearers. J. Gary Gramling will be an honorary pallbearer.

Mary Lavern Wallis
 


Mary Lavern Wallis, 74, of Jonesboro passed from this life Thursday, February 24, 2011 in Jonesboro. She was born February 4, 1937 in Marmaduke to Ted and Lillie Ann Fears Wallis. Lavern pastored several churches in the area, taught school and was a legal secretary for over 20 years. She was a member of New Life Fellowship Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert A. Wallis and Vernon Wallis; and a sister, Carolyn Sue Swindle.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, February 26th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Chapel services will be Sunday, February 27th, 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rick Clark and Russ Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Bolivar Cemetery.

Eathel Alene Stewart



Eathel Alene Stewart, 89, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born May 14, 1921, Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and a member of Seventh & Mueller Church of Christ. Her husband, Edwin Earl Stewart, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters: Linda Clifft of Paragould; Helen Judkins of Michigan; and grandchildren: Terry Martin, Judy, Carol, Charlotte, Christine and Cathy.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 28th, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11:00 at the Heath Colonial Chapel. Larry McFadden will be officiating. Interment will follow at Cardwell Cemetery.

Wava Louise Mitchell



Wava Louise Mitchell, 89 of Bono, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at the St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born on June 15, 1921 in Paragould, Arkansas; she was a homemaker and member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include, six sons and daughters-in-law; Danny (Betty) Mitchell of Smithville, Benny (Joyce) Mitchell of Lorado, Lenny (Janis) Mitchell of Paragould, Kenny Mitchell of the home, Tommy (Marie) Mitchell of Paragould and Jim(Cathy) Mitchell of Imboden; four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Deloris Greer of Bono, Trella (Billy) Moore of Beech Grove, Loretta (Donny) Cook of Bono, Becky (Wesley) Yarch of Jonesboro; two sisters, Naomi Ryan of Walcott, Mary Walters of Michigan, 33 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by, parents, Claude and Ella Skaggs; Husband, Euine Lee “Pet” Mitchell; one son, John Ernest Mitchell; two great grandson, Blaise William Henry Moore and Nathaniel Lee Wright.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 28th, 10:a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob McMillon with burial following in Finch Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday evening 5:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Rex Allen Maggard Sr.



Rex Allen Maggard Sr., 55, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, February. 26, 2011 at his residence.

He was born August 12, 1955, in Ava, Missouri, to the late Woodrow and Gertie Butler Maggard. He was a farmer and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was a devoted family man.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Connie Clairday Maggard; a son, Rex Jr. and his wife Brittney of Paragould; four daughters, Marie Allen and husband Chris, Misty Haynes and husband Randy, all of Paragould, Jenny Stone and Rebecca Maggard of Jonesboro; six brothers, Leonard Maggard and Danny Butler of Trumann, Donald Maggard of Black Rock, Ronald Maggard of Jonesboro, Joe Galloway and Russell Maggard of Missouri; and eight grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Williams, and a nephew, James Williams.

All services will be private under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Wirt W. Choate, 90, of La Center, KY., passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Paducah, KY.

He was born September 2, 1920, in Paragould, AR., to Richard Harris and Carolyn Wade Choate.

Survivors include one son, David and daughter-in-law Tracy Choate; two grandchildren, Ryan and Matthew Choate, all of Charlotte N.C.; one brother, Bruce Choate of Jonesboro; 12 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Annabelle Shivley Choate; two sisters, Sarah Thompson and Rebecca Anderton; and three brothers, Harris Choate, Wade Choate and Walter Choate.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.

A graveside service was held Monday in Masonic Cemetery at Pocahontas with the Rev. Eddie Bromley of Grace United Methodist Church of La Center, KY., officiating.
Morrow Funeral Home of La Center was in charge of arrangements.

Wilbert Branch, 89, Paragould, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his home. Born March 14, 1921, he was a carpenter, veteran and member of New Life Temple.

Survivors include son: James (Nancy) Dyer of Paragould; daughter: Freida (Forrest) Hiller of Madras, Oregon; daughter-in-law: Judy Branch of Texas; and several grandchidren. His wife, Morjorie, son, Tracy, daughter, Phyllis and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 3rd, 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m. at Brown's Chapel Cemetery, with Rev. Bill Snow officiating.

Beverly Ann Brewington



Beverly Ann Brewington, 63 of Paragould passed away February 26, 2011. She was born February 26, 1948 in Detroit, MI. to William and Florence Fry. She loved to quilt, sew, watch Nascar races and women softball games. She attended Oak Grove Church of Christ and Second & Walnut Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Doris Copeland; a brother, Jerry Fry and a daughter, Lori Ann Brewington.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Brewington; two daughters, Tammy Brewington of Paragould and Julie McCord of Cape Girardeau, MO; two brothers, Bobby and Danny Fry both of Paragould; one sister, Peggy Keefe of Franklin, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Hunter McCord, Savannah Sides and Makayla Brewington.


The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 28th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 1st, 1:00 p.m.in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Herbert Starr officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Sara ‘Pauline’ Riley



Sara “Pauline” Riley was born December 17, 1917, in Paragould to Frank and Stella Buchanan. She went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2011, at the age of 93.

Pauline was married to Ermon Riley in 1937 in Paragould and they were blessed with two daughters. In 1942, the couple moved to Soledad, Calif., where their three sons were born. In 1954, they moved to Visalia, Calif. Pauline worked for in sales for JC Penney and Gottschalk’s for many years before retirement. She loved to garden, sing, attend church and socialize with other people. Ermon preceded her in death in 1997.

Survivors include her family, Jean (Leroy) Woods of Visalia, Sue (Robert) Smith of Hanford, Calif., Joel Riley of Nevada, Jerry Riley of Visalia, Frank (Pam) Riley of Ivanhoe, Calif.; brother, Robert Buchanan of Arkansas; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services Friday, March 4, 2011, at Miller Memorial Chapel in Visalia.

Reverend Cyril V. Miller

 

Rev. Cyril V. Miller, 95, passed away Friday, February 28, 2011 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Born August 23, 1915 in Greene County, he had lived in Jonesboro his entire life. He was a Baptist minister and was pastor of several area churches. He was also a well known auto mechanic, operating his own garage for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Minnie (Summers) Miller; his loving wife of 70 years, Elva Miller; and five brothers, Alza Somers, Fred Somers, Vernis Miller, Virgil Miller and Donald Miller.

He is survived by his sons, Wayne (Leona) Miller and Curtis (Ricky) Miller of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Mark Miller of Paragould, Kevin Miller and Audra Doyle of Jonesboro; four great grandchildren, Mallory Maddox, Madison Maddox, Montgomery Miller and Briley Miller; a brother, Jake Miller and a sister, Mildred Childers of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 5:00 until 8:00 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Church services will be Wednesday, March 2nd, 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Rev. Bobby Crabb and Rev. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Mark Miller, Kevin Miller, Mansel Doyle, Max Dacus, Jr., Frankie Dacus and Johnny Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will include Max Dacus, Sr., Albert Upton and Bill Dacus.

Gladys Ruth Edmiston, 74, Henderson, TX, formerly of Paragould, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at her residence. She was born December 13, 1936 in Greene County, AR the daughter of the late George W. and Sadie Jackson Retherford. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James, Jack and Leonard Retherford and sister, Mary Genevieve Holloway. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband: Frankie Edmiston, Jr., of the home; sons and daughters-in-law: Frank and Brenda Edmiston of Bartlett, TN; Don and Rachel Edmiston of Henderson, TX; daughter and son-in-law: Phillis and Dale Mifflin of Vilonia, AR; grandchildren: Lee and Scotty Mifflin, Jennifer, Mary Ruth and Sadie Edmiston; great-grandchildren: Justin, Harley and Lilly Mae Mifflin, Jason Wood, Jimmie French, Kayla Jacobson.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be Friday, March 4th, 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Junior Vester officiating. Interment will follow at Brown's Chapel Cemetery.
