Marlene Jacks 



Marlene Jacks, wife of Bill Jacks, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008. 

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Maney and Denise Craven; one son, Kevin Harrison; and one stepson, Jerry Jacks. 

No services are planned. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Lola Routon 


Lola Routon, 80, of Paragould died Friday, February 1, 2008, at Belle Meade Nursing Home, Paragould. 

Born November 13, 1927, at Bradshaw, TX., she married P.C. Routon on February 6, 1946, in Corcoran, CA. Mrs. Routon was a homemaker and member of Union Central Church of Christ. 

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Carolyn Routon of Paragould, Mike and Patricia Routon of Petal, Miss., and Dennis and Joyce Routon of Lafe; and two daughters, Connie Collier and her husband Richard of San Antonio and Judy Routon of Marmaduke. She is also survived by two brothers, Leslie Watts of Glendora, Calif., and James Watts of Coffeyville, Kan.; two sisters, Johnnie Ruzicka and Barbara Martin, both of Corcoran; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, P.C. Routon; her parents, Isam and Jessie Allen Watts; five brothers, Isam Junior Watts, Roy Watts, Jesse Watts, Phillip Watts and Preston Watts; and by one sister, Hazel Watts. 

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel of Paragould with Sonny Childs officiating. Burial will be in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery. 

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. 

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Verlia Mae McReynolds



Verlia Mae McReynolds passes away February 1, 2008, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She was the daughter of Gertie and Clyde McReynolds.

There will be a graveside service 11 a.m., Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Rector. Arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips Funeral Home of Paragould.

James Ray Gardner 



James Ray Gardner, 79, of Jonesboro died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at his home. 

He was born March 12, 1928, the son of the late Luther and Vergie Myrick Gardner. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Lavern Gardner. 

He was the pastor at Christian Life Fellowship Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Amy Hass Gardner of the home; son, Tim Gardner; grandsons, Kyle and Drew Gardner, all of Marmaduke; brother, Junior Gardner; and sister, Gloyce Deals, both of Rector. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening February 4, at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. 

His life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Heath Colonial Chapel.

Alma Huffman

 


Alma Huffman, 88, of Paragould, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was born April 30, 1919 in Beech Grove, Arkansas the daughter of the late Jess and Ethel Fears.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Huffman, her sister, Inez Bibb and brother, Troy Fears. She was a farmer and a homemaker. 

She is survived by her son, Don Huffman of Walcott; daughters, Dessie Butler of St. Charles, Missouri, Geraldine Huffman of St. Peters, Missouri, Bonnie Cathy of Scotsville, Kentucky, Sue Lyles of Seabrook, Texas; sisters: Bertha Jetton of Paragould, Francis Walker of Doniphan, Missouri, Shirley Blankenship of Pocahontas; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. 

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 Sunday evening at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Her life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Heath Colonial Chapel with interment following at Shiloh Cemetery.

Elizabeth Bounds 



Elizabeth Bounds, 63, of Corning died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center, Jonesboro. She was born in Stonewall, May 23, 1944, daughter of Robert Louis and Roby Wright Mitchell. Mrs. Bounds was of the Pentecostal faith. 

She is survived by two sons, Louis and Randy Bounds; daughter, Jeannie Flaherty, all of Corning; two sisters, Aslea Hendrix of Paragould and Mary Mitchell of Brookland; six grandchildren, Andy and Rose Flaherty, Andrea, Nicole and Michelle Bounds and Louis Bounds Jr.; and great-grandchild, Mareesa Flaherty. 

Visitation will be Thursday, February 7th. at noon in Ermert Funeral Home Chapel at Corning with services following at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Billy Snow officiating. Burial will follow in Hartsoe Cemetery at Marmaduke.

Gregory Allen Leach



Gregory "Greg" Allen Leach, Corning, was born July 22, 1973 in Pocahontas, son of Jimmy Darrell and Janetta Sue (Holland) Leach. He died in The Med in Memphis Sunday, February 3, 2008. He was 34.

A welder for Monroe of Paragould, he liked hunting and fishing and being with family and friends.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors are his mother, Sue Leach, Corning; one brother Jimmy (Linda) Leach, Corning; four step-children, Terri, Kimberly, Brandon and Haley; seven step-grandchildren; aunts Debbie Purdom and Sandy Leach of Corning; uncle Bill (Linda) Leach, Reyno; two nieces; one great-niece; several close cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Jim Leach; grandparents Vernon and Almarine Holland; grandparents Everett Leach and Velma Stubblefield; and step-grandmother Ella Holland.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday Feb. 7, 2008 in the chapel of Ermert Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Sunny Williams officiating. Burial in Corning Cemetery.

Verba Lee Walker 



Verba Walker 85 of Rector passed away February 3, 2008 at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital, Paragould. 

She was born October 1, 1922 to the late Albert and Mae Farley in the Boydsville community. She belonged to the Methodist Church in Boydsville. 

Verba was preceded in death by her husband E.J. Walker; one son; Donnie Walker, and one grandson: Warren Walker. 
She is survived by a son and wife: Delaney and Doris Walker of Corning, one daughter and husband: Angie and Larry Walker of Knobel and a daughter-in-law: Sandra Walker of Corning, five grandchildren: 
Wade, Derek, Cindy, Zane and Justin and ten great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 2:00 at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Brother Jack Bearden officiating. 
Visitation will begin Wednesday at 12:00 at the funeral home. 
Interment will be at the Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Beverly Jo Carroll 



Beverly Jo Carroll, 55, of Paragould joined our Heavenly Father Monday, February 4, 2008. She was born September 15, 1952 in Lima, Ohio. She was a registered nurse at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and attended Cornerstone Family Church. 
She was preceded in death by her father, John Carroll and an infant son, Cory.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Misty and Thomas Hancock and Brianna and Mark Denham of Paragould; son, Eric Conley of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren, Devon and Hailey Denham of Paragould; mother, Farrell Nelson of Waterloo, Iowa and brother, Larry Carroll of Cedar Falls, Iowa. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Wednesday night at Heath Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM Thursday at Pine Knot Cemetery for a graveside service.

David Keith Price 



David Keith Price, 51, of Paragould, formerly of Rector, passed away at his home February 5, 2008. 

Keith was born March 30, 1956, to John and Lavern Price at Paragould. He married Robin Wheatley in 1975, and to this union was born two sons. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. 

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lavern Price; brother, Garry Price; and sister, Sheila Faries. 

Keith is survived by his wife, Robin Price; sons, Corey Price of Fayetteville and Jared and Nikole Price of Little Rock; grandson, Jackson David Price; brother, John Earl Price of Lafe; and mother-in-law, Barbara Wheatley. 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Rector with the Rev. Roger Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery. 

Visitation will be tonight, 6:30-9, at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector.

Edna J. Kibiloski 




Edna J. Kibiloski, 90, of Paragould, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Edna was a Sales Coordinator for Darling Store Fixtures and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, parents, Casmir and Julia Herman Ross, brother, Harold Ross and granddaughter, Sarah Buchman. 


Survivors include, daughter & son-in-law Sue Kibiloski and Marty Buchman of Paragould, son and daughter-in-law, James and Nancy Kibiloski of Michigan, sister, Evelyn Kubasiak of Bronson, Michigan and brother, Marion Ross of Coldwater, Michigan. Grandchildren, Matthew, Aaron & Mary, Joseph, Andrew, Marc and Seth Buchman, great grandson, Eamon Buchman. 


Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 – 7:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Home. Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue until 8:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Garrison officiating.


Burial will be at St. Mary’s cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Mary’s Catholic School.

Linda Cupp 



Linda Kay Cupp, 60, of Paragould died Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Baptist-East Hospital in Memphis. She was a School Teacher for 26 years and enjoyed every minute of it. She sang and played the piano for 43 years and was a member of Grace United Baptist Church.

Linda was born January 10, 1948, in Kennett, MO., to the late Adolph and Mae Lillie McClearn Cupp. She is survived by one daughter, Tamara Baughn; grandson, Jake French, and granddaughter, Isabella Baughn, all of Jonesboro and a dog-friend, Buttercup. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home today.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Royce Schanda officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at Heaths. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Cliff Cupp, Craig Cupp, Gary Cupp, Chris McMinn, Doug Kennett, and Stephen Holt. Honorary Pallbearer is Jake French.

Martha J. Freeman 



Martha Freeman, 84, of Fort Smith died Thursday, February 7, 2008, at River Valley Nursing Home. 

She was born September 2, 1923, at Marmaduke, the daughter of the late Truman Harrison Freeman Sr. and Clara Ruth Starnes Freeman. She was a homemaker and member of Harvest Time Tabernacle Church. 

Survivors include her sisters, Glenda Harris and Carolyn Bigham, both of Fort Smith; and brother, Grover Freeman of Jonesboro. 

A viewing will be held from 2-7 p.m. Sunday in Heath Funeral Home. 

Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould with the Rev. Bill Snow officiating.

Robert Gerald Harris 



Robert Gerald “Bob” Harris, 67, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at NEA Baptist Hospital at Jonesboro. 

A resident of Paragould before moving to Pocahontas in 1980. Mr. Harris was a retired salesman for Hardin’s-Sysco Food Service. 

He is survived by his wife, Melinda; daughter, Robyn (Hank) McNabb of Pocahontas; two stepsons, Chris (Melissa) Griffin of Brickeys and Sam (Jackie) Griffin of Maumelle; adopted son, Drew Harris of the home; two grandchildren, Hannah and Henry McNabb of Pocahontas; three stepgrandchildren, Hunter Griffin and Milon Mitchell of Brickeys and Devyenne Diaz of Maumelle; brother, Bill Harris of Jonesboro; and sister, Gladys Mercer of Knightsen, CA. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with the Revs. Fred Hunter, Glenn Pettis and Eddie Harris officiating. Entombment will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens. 

Visitation will be from 5-7 tonight in the funeral home.

Ruby Edith May

 


Ruby Edith May, 90, of Paragould died Friday, February 8, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. 

She was born October 23, 1917 in Piggott, Arkansas the daughter of the late James Howard and Bitha Warren Dunbar. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Ira May. She was a homemaker and of Baptist faith.

Ruby is survived by daughters, Betty Green and Donna Parker of Paragould and Carol Smith of Knobel; sons, Robert, John and James May of Paragould and Billy May of Jonesboro; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. 
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 12th at 1:30 pm at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Jason Noel officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Judith Willingham 



Judith Ann Willingham, 67, of Paragould died Friday, February 8, 2008, at her residence. 

She was born November 20, 1940, at Fresno, CA., into the family of Roy and Edith Cloe Richardson Hill. 

Mrs. Willingham was formerly employed by Dillard’s. She was of the Baptist belief. 

Survivors include one son, Craig Allen Willingham of Jonesboro; one daughter, Tami Estep of Dublin, VA.; one granddaughter, Brandi Garrett of Radford, VA.; one brother, Walter Hill of Orange Cove, CA.; and one sister, Josephine Sharer of Los Angeles. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Willingham.

Jerry Adams Jr. 



Jerry Adams Jr., 33, of Jonesboro, was born June 1, 1974, he passed away on Friday, February 8, 2008. 

Mr. Adams was employed with Ramson Construction. 

He leaves behind his wife, Lana Adams of the home; three sons, Tyler, Caleb and Jerry Bill Adams of the home; daughters, Katelyn and Teona Adams of the home and Ashley Mae; sister, Amanda Adams; and parents, Jerry and Nancy Adams Sr. 

Graveside funeral services will be Monday, February 11, 2008, in Laredo Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with James Strait and Ken Winningham officiating.

Mary Belle Hoppe 




Mary Belle Hoppe, 82, of Temple, Texas, formerly of Paragould, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple Texas. She was born on March 25, 1925 at Advance, Missouri. 


She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Hoppe of Paragould; her parents, Lawrence and Iva Bell Bollinger of Poplar Bluff; and two brothers, Lealon Bollinger of Poplar Bluff and Russell Bollinger of Fredricktown, Missouri. 


She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Neil Haney, of Temple, Texas; and a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Linda Hoppe of Paragould. Her grandchildren are Angie Miller, Round Rock, Texas; Pierce Haney, Cedar Park, Texas; and Justin Hoppe, Conway, AR. Her great grandchildren are Pierce Andrew Miller, Shelby Haney, Ashley Haney, Reid Haney and Kierstyn Hoppe. She is also survived by two sisters, Connie London of Hopkinsville, Ky. and Helen Jones of St. Peters, Mo.; and by one brother, Jolly Bollinger of St. Louis. 
While living in Paragould Mrs. Hoppe was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ and a Lifetime Member of Women for Crowley’s Ridge College. 


Services for Mrs. Hoppe will include a visitation at 1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 13th, at the Hillcrest Church of Christ. The funeral service will be officiated by Neil Haney and Ken Hoppe. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. 
Pallbearers will be: Harrell Austin, Larry Brinkley, Frank Gatlin, David Goff, Bill Pangborn, and Muriel White.

Wanda Jean Sanders


Wanda Jean Sanders passed away February 9, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born May 9, 1941 in Lepanto, AR to the late Joseph and Willie Isebell. Mrs. Sanders was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.


She is survived by three sisters Wanda Sharp of Etowah, AR, Linda Henson and Carol Walls of Blytheville, AR, three brothers Jessie Isebell of Manila, AR, Joseph Isebell of High Ridge, MO and Danny Fleming of Austin, TX, her step-mother Lillie Isebell of Blytheville, a step-son Wayne Sander, Jr. of League, TX and one grandchild. 


Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday February 13, 2008 at Center Hill Baptist Church in Paragould with Danny Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Potter’s Field in Lepanto at 3:30 PM. The family will receive friends from 11-1 at the church prior to the service.

G.D. “George” Newman



G.D. “George” Newman, 75, of Paragould, brother of Ricky Newman of Rector, died Sunday, February 10, 2008.

He was born June 19, 1932, in Senath, Mo., and was a lifetime farmer in Greene County. He was a member of the Assemblies of God, where he always enjoyed attending.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sarah Storey Newman; a brother, Kenneth Newman; a sister, Brenda McEntyre; a son, Roger Dale Newman, and a cousin, Jack Griffin.

Other survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lois Newman; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and David Goebel, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kay Newman, and daughter-in-law, Lorene Newman, all of Paragould, and son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Collean Newman of Miami Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Donna Mullins and Gwen Ray of Paragould and Polly Holder of Tulare, Calif.; three other brothers, Don, Jim and Bill Newman, all of Paragould; two grandsons, Rodney and Bobby Newman; three granddaughters, Kimberly Holloway, Kelly Rhodes and Amy Klingensmith, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Rev. William Allen officiating. Burial was in Hosea Cemetery at Knobel.

Active pallbearers were Allen Griffin, Jason Miller, Trevor Newman, Tommy Newman Sr., Tony Newman and Bob Keeling.

Honorary pallbearers were Larry Goebel, Tobey White, Al Keeling and Merl Griffin.

Bonnie Burns 



Bonnie Joan Ferrell Burns, 66, of Walnut Ridge, died February 11, 2008, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro. 

Born July 11, 1941, at Delaplaine, she was the daughter of Carl and Ruby Connelly Ferrell. She was a math teacher and counselor for 37 years, 31 of which were at the Walnut Ridge School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Bob Burns; two daughters, Laura Golden and husband Mac, Little Rock, and Kristen West and husband Alan, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Gerald Ferrell, Walnut Ridge, and John Ferrell, Englewood, N.J.; and four grandchildren, Warner West, Graham West, Ellis Golden and Edie Rose West. 

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge with Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers will be Mac Golden, Alan West, Marvin Kennedy, Chuck Flowers, Jerry Worlow, Mike Bradley, John Reardon and Phillip Tolson. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of her Sunday school class.

Henry Leon Long



Leon Long, 59, of Paragould passed away February, 11, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born December 6. 1948, in Kennett, MO., to Roy and Nina (Dawson) Long.

Preceding him in death were his father, Roy Long and a son, Donnie Long.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his mother, Nina Long of Branson, Mo.; two brothers, Rick Long of Paragould and Dennis Long of Florida; seven sisters, Linda Wilson, Pam Jones, Peggy Baiter and Cilla Long, all of Branson, MO., Sarah Andrews and Rita Tolefson of Caseville, IL. and Betsy Bower of Washington.

His body will be cremated.

A memorial will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church with Royce Boling officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the National Foundation for Transplants, 5350 Poplar Ave., Suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119.

Verna Lee Heath

 


Born September 24, 1930, Verna Lee Heath, 83, formerly of Paragould, died Wednesday, February 12, 2008 at Fulton County Hospital, Salem. 


Survivors include children, James D. Heath of Frankfurt, Germany and Anna Elaine Bryant of Mississippi; one brother, Harold J. Shelton; four sisters, Lois W. Pridemore of Cherokee Village, Wilma Brubaker, Leona Cole and Sandra Hawkins; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

 
Visitation will be Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. 
A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:20 a.m.

J. C. Cooper

 

J. C. Cooper, 77, of Paragould, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at his residence. 
He was born in Schugtown, September 24, 1930, to Charlie and Della Cooper. Mr. Cooper retired from Emerson Electric and was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Kathryn Cooper; one son, Roger Dale Cooper; three brothers; and one sister.

Juanice Herrin 


Juanice Herrin, 88 of Paragould, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born August 3, 1919 in Clay County, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief. 


Juanice was preceded in death by her parents, Carley and Belah Phillips Franks, a nephew, Gary Franks, 1st husband, Bernard Myers and 2nd husband Isaac Herrin. 
She is survived by nieces, Mary Ann Hamelback and Joyce Vallentine of Paragould, great nephews, Robert Vallentine, Steven and Bradley Hamelback, great great niece, Amber Rodden and great great nephew, Ryan Beasley. 


Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until services at 11:00 A.M. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Lynn McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery.

Sheila Ann Mitchell 



Sheila Ann Mitchell, 45, was birthed into eternity Wednesday, February 14, 2008 at her home in Paragould. 
Born December 8, 1962 in Paragould, Sheila lived in Flint, Michigan, Pekin, Illinois and Atlanta, Georgia before returning to her family in Paragould, Arkansas.

She attended Greene County Tech High School. Survivors include her mother, Charlotte Sue Mitchell and Aunt Brenda Howard of the family residence in Paragould; siblings and their spouses: C.D. Mitchell of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Donna and Ken Box of Paragould; Dana and Marty Watts of Booneville, Mississippi; Bill and Carla Mitchell of Paragould; and Verl Mitchell of Little Rock, Arkansas; six nephews: Clinton and Clayton Mitchell, Cameron Box, Derek Watts, Jake Mitchell, and DD. Boling, and four nieces: Candice Robb, Stephanie Watts, Kasey Box, and Paige Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her father Billy W. Mitchell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Winford Walters officiating.

Ilene Pillow, 96, of Paragould, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born November 10, 1911, in Walcott, she was a homemaker and a member of the Walcott Baptist Church. 


She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles “C. D.” and Gerry Pillow of Kempner, Texas; two brothers, Bill Fields of Ontario, California, and Dennis “Chic” Fields of Paragould: two grandsons, Christopher Pillow and his wife, Lucia of Nolanville, Texas, and Timothy Pillow of Houston, Texas; and by two great granddaughters, Emily and Abigail Pillow of Nolanville, Texas. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Pillow; her parents, Lon and Dell Fields; two brothers, Mitchell and William Fields; and by one sister, Sue Farrall. 


Visitation will be Sunday, 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Betty Jo Isbell 



Betty Jo Isbell, 72, of Paragould died Friday, February 15, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

She was born on February 2, 1936, at Smithville, Arkansas, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Willie White Gilbert. Betty Jo was a homemaker and caregiver and of the Baptist faith. 

Survivors include two sons, Joe Gilbert and daughter-in-law Rebecca of Brookland and Tony Gilbert and daughter-in-law Lynn of Flinch; five brothers, Charles Gilbert of Chicago, Bob Gilbert of Arkansas, and Tom Gilbert, Jack Gilbert and Johnny Gilbert, all of Texas; four sisters, Ruth Grambling of Paragould, Iva Capps of Ash Flat, Liz Capps of Little Rock and Goldie Steele of Texas; nine grandchildren, Zack Isbell, Kayla Isbell, Joey Isbell, Jaylene Isbell, Nick Isbell, Kendall Isbell, Heather, Jamie and Trevor Knecht; and six great-grandchildren, Daniel, McKenna and Isaac Isbell, Lindsey, Logan and Erin Knecht. 

Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Old Bethel Cemetery near Black Rock with Harold Russell officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service in Walnut Ridge.

Jimmy Dale Evans


Jimmy Dale Evans, 50, of Jonesboro, died Feb. 15, 2008, at his home, following a short illness. 

Born Nov. 27, 1957, in Walnut Ridge, he had lived in Paragould before moving to Jonesboro in 1976. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a delivery person for Hanks Furniture in Jonesboro and was of the Protestant belief. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad Evans and Shirley Evans Nall; and two sisters. 

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Janet Evans; a son, Joshua Dela Cuesta, Jonesboro; a brother, Perry Evans; and three sisters, Darla S. Mann, Paragould, Debbie Cottle, Smithfield, Va., and Johnnie Stone, Walnut Ridge. 

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles Morgan officiating. Private burial was under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Esther Virginia Dixon 



Esther Virginia Brewer Dixon, 79, of Marmaduke went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 15, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center. 

She was born in Greene County on May 25, 1928. She was a longtime member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church. She was retired from Arkansas Methodist Hospital. 

Mrs. Dixon enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, quilting and reading. 

Survivors include her four sons, David and his wife Linda of Tuckerman, Stephen and his wife Becky and William and his wife Kathy, all of Marmaduke, and Marlin and his wife Melinda of Paragould. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jason Weatherford, Amy Pratt, Sarah Dixon, Robert “Bobby” Dixon, Amanda Dixon, Michael Dixon, Lucas Dixon and Alicen Dixon; and three great-grandchildren, Scout and Sophie Weatherford and Jaci Pratt. She is also survived by two sisters, Nola Hester of Paragould and Eliza Hester of Rector; and also numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Dixon; nine of her brothers and sisters; and her parents, Jethro and Lavadia Brewer. 

The family will receive friends from 6-9 tonight in Heath Funeral Home. 

Her life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Marmaduke First Baptist Church with the Revs. Kim Bridges and Jerry Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery.

Phillip Charles Prater

 

Phillip Charles Prater, 46, of Paragould, died Friday, February 15, 2008, at his residence.

Born May 10, 1961, at Jonesboro he lived most of his life at Paragould. He was a graduate of Oak Grove High School and also acquired a bachelor of science degree in animal science from Arkansas State University. 

He was a broker for the trucking industry and was affiliated with the Camp Ground United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include his parents, Charley and Madeline Prater; two sisters and their husbands, Paula and Rickey Norman and Amy and David Hickman, all of Paragould; nieces and their husbands and nephews, Sarah and Jamey Dearing, Amanda and Jonathan Pillow, Laura Norman, Adam Norman and Victoria Hickman; great-nieces and nephew; several uncles and aunts; multiple cousins; and many good friends. 

A celebration of Phillip’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Camp Ground United Methodist Church near Paragould with the Rev. Eddie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro. 

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rickey Norman, Robin Vance, Huston Prater Jr., Wayne Prater, Raymond Burrow, George Nichols, Steve Hyde and Tim Wells; and as honorary pallbearers, Clark Vickers, Chris Cole and Steve McClelland.

John Henry Cotton, passed away February 15, 2008, He was born March 3, 1912 in Gainesville, Arkansas to Columbus & Emma Cotton. Mr. Cotton was 95 years, 11 months and 12 days of age.

Elouise Davis 



Elouise Davis, 87, of Bay, Arkansas died Saturday morning, February 16, 2008 at Craighead County Nursing Center. 

Born January 31, 1921 at Paragould, Mrs. Davis lived much of her life at Bay. She was retired from Nettleton High School where she taught high school biology. She taught in public schools a total of 37 years. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Arkansas State University and was a member of Nettleton United Methodist Church. 

She was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Davis; her parents, Elvis and Gertrude Willey Benner; and two brothers, Hulbert and Huelett Benner. 

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Davis of Montana and Donnie and Sandy Davis and Ronnie and Carol Davis, all of Bay; two sisters, Jane Williams of Houston, Texas, and Elsie Brown of Vicksburg, Miss.; five grandchildren, Jamie Davis, James Davis, Clint Davis, Chase Davis and Brooke Thomas; and one great-grandson, Gavin Thomas. 

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Blackwood officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Michael Dudley Childress, 56, of Cherokee Village, formerly of Paragould, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, at his home. 

Born August 7, 1951, in Greene County, he was a former employee of Video Realty, member of the Cherokee Village Elks Club and the Cherokee Village Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Bertha Jane Butler, 86, of Paragould, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Reba Woods, 88, of Paragould, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. 
Born January 7, 1920, in Greene County, Mrs. Woods was the former owner of a trucking company and of a restaurant. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Jane Meriwether Johnson passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Rochester, N.Y. 

She was born at Paragould on July 22, 1932, the daughter of Ray and Marie Meriwether. She graduated Paragould High School in 1950, received her B.A. in music from Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., and continued her music studies at the Eastman School at Rochester. 

She is survived by her husband, John H. Johnson; three daughters; three grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Meriwether of Little Rock.

Rickey David Cole 



Rickey David Cole, 58, of Monroe, Georgia, formerly of Paragould, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Walton Regional Medical Center, Monroe. 


An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam conflict, Mr. Cole was born June 17, 1949, in Akron, Ohio, and was an electrical engineer. 
Survivors include his wife, Patti Cole of the home; one daughter, Leslie Michelle Cole of Monroe; two brothers, Neal Cole and Ronnie Cole, both of Paragould; and a sister, Rita Berg of Wisconsin.

Irene Thomas Brashear



Irene Brashear, 92, of Rector passed from this life on February 16, 2008 at the Senath Nursing Home. Irene was born January 26, 1916, to the late Robert and Hettie Jackson in Greene County.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey “Slim” Brashear; her brother, Robert Jackson and two sisters, Juanita Gibb and Laverne Bland.

Gene Stone, 82, of Marmaduke died Sunday, February 17, 2008 at the Belle Meade Nursing Center. 
He was born August 23, 1925 in Light, Arkansas the son of Nicholas Martin and Agnes Smith Stone. 

He was a self employed mechanic and handy man and was a member of the Marmaduke First Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Stone of the home; sons, Lester Stone of Halliday, Daniel Gerald Stone of Oak Grove Heights, and Tim Stone of Marmaduke; one daughter, Alice Faye Butler of Mammoth Springs; brother James Vernon Stone of Barnhart, Missouri; sister, Irene Perry of Rector; seven grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several step-great grandchildren. 

Gene is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Nellie Stone; one son, Donald Wayne Stone; three brothers; two sisters; and one grandson, Jesse Clinton Stone.

Connie Steiner, 51, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008, in Calera, OK. She was born July 18, 1956, in Paragould to Earline and Walter Childers.

Terry Lee Thomas 



Terry Lee Thomas, 48, left this world to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 17, 2008. He was born December 18, 1959, in Lawrence County. 
Mr. Thomas was of the Church of Christ belief. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his family.

Terry was such a sweet, kind loving man. He fought his cancer to the very end.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Leslie Thomas; paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Opal Thomas; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Marie Federico; a sister, Melissa Ann (Thomas) McAfee and a foster mom, Lorene Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Thomas of Enola, Ark.; five children, Amanda, Terry, Sabrina, Samantha and Meshell; two sons-in-law, Brad and Russell; three grandsons, Connor, Dakota and Eragon; his birth mother, Ida Dean of Paragould; a foster mom, Vivian Salvage of Searcy; a foster dad, Laban Brown of Imboden; two brothers, Curtis Thomas and his wife, Leona of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; Leslie Thomas of Jonesboro; two sisters, Carolyn Loggains and Dena Gage and her husband, Jeff, all of Paragould; two special friends, Brad Loggains and Joe Holcomb and a host of family and friends.

Terry will be cremated.

There will be a memorial service honoring Terry’s life 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Mulberry Church of Christ off 135 South near Paragould with J.T. Ashby officiating.

Neva Harral Taylor, age 86, formerly of Bradford, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord Monday, February 18, 2008.

She was born March 4, 1921, to Ina Johnson and James L. Harral in Wilburn, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Taylor; her parents, and six of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her four children, Loretta Allison of Paragould, Evon Crow of Rosemark, TN., Lindell Taylor of Bradford, AR. and Sherrie Kettles of Bryant, AR.; one brother, Rex Harral of Wilburn, AR. and one sister, Rita Barras of Whittier, CA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Neva Taylor loved the Lord, her family and community. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Friendship Baptist Church of Bradford before moving to First Baptist in Paragould.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church in Bradford, Ark., followed by a burial at the Magness Cemetery in Wilburn, AR.

Visitation will be held at the Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob, AR. Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Buford K. Green, 85, of Corning, formerly of Knobel, died Monday, February 18, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. 

Mr. Green was a retired truck driver and U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a past master of Knob Masonic Lodge and member of Corning Masonic Lodge 719 and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Corning. 

On April 9, 1942, he was united in marriage to Imogene Eaton Green. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2001. 

Survivors include one son, Buddy Green of Kane, IL.; one daughter, Brenda Fraine of Winter Haven, FL.; two brothers, Dean Green of Folsom, CA., and Bill Green of Winter Haven; three sisters, Lois Foster of St. Charles, MO., Flossie Ashby and Nona Conway, both of Knobel. 

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Masonic service will be Thursday at 6. 

Funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sunny Williams officiating. Burial will be in Bond Cemetery at Knobel.

Buddie Wallace  



Buddie Lewis Wallace, 69, of Blytheville, AR., formerly of Paragould, AR., died Monday, February 18, 2008, at Great River Medical Center in Blytheville.

 
Born December 7, 1938, in Sikeston, MO., son of the late Roy and Virginia Mae Wallace, he was in the National Guard and of the Baptist faith. He was employed at Sterlings, Magic Mart and Wal-Mart in Kennett. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Kiwanis, Paragould Pilot Association and J.T. Dive Scuba Association. 


He married Billie Latham, who survives. 
Survivors also include two daughters, Kim and Rachel Wallace, both of Blytheville; two sons, Randy Wallace and wife, Cindy, and Jonathan Wallace, all of Blytheville; three grandchildren, Sydney Wallace, of Paragould, Bryan Pillow and Daniel Nelson, both of Blytheville and two great-grandchildren, Anna Kaye Pillow, of Burdette, AR., and Kyleigh Grace Boone, of Paragould. 


He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Etta Mothershead; his step-mother, Mattie Wallace and a grandson, Bradley Pillow. 


Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 21, at the Wilson Funeral Home in Blytheville with Bros. Ricky Forbis, Mike Welch and Bob Kary officiating. 


Burial was in the Memory Garden Cemetery at Blytheville.

Sol Garrett, Jr.



Sol M. Garrett, Jr., Corning, was born May 9, 1922 in Corning, son of Sol Martin, Sr. and Minnie Frances Farris~ Garrett. He died in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould Monday, Feb. 18, 2008. He was 85.
A veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in World War II, he married the former Minnie Louise Ahrent December 24, 1942. She preceded him in death January 28, 2000.


He was member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Corning and retired parts department manager and wrecker operator for Polk Chevrolet.
Survivors are one son Sol Martin Garrett, III, Bella Vista; 3 daughters Louise Coleman, Corning, Judy Duffel, Mabelvale and Mary Wiedeman, Corning; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Elmo Garrett and granddaughter Tina Louise Woods.
Funeral services were conducted in St. Matthew Lutheran Church Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 with Jon C. Bishchof officiating. Burial in Corning Cemetery under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home.

Lester Crafton


Lester Crafton was born Sept. 20, 1925 in Corning, son of Edgar Poe and Louticia Gage~Crafton.

 He died in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould, Monday, Feb. 18, 2008. He was 82.
He was a self-employed farmer and liked to hunt and fish. Member of Calvary Baptist Church, he married the former Maxine Faye REEVES on May 14, 1946.


Survivors include his wife, Maxine Crafton of the home; two daughters Paulette Thacker, Hot Springs and Loretta Gustavus, Perryville; two brothers Bob Crafton, Rogers and Eddie Poe Crafton, Corning; four sisters, Elise Holifield, Pell City, AL, Tressie Byrd, Piggott, Helen Johnson, Rockford, IL and Roseman Ashenbrenner, Pickney, MI; 5 grandchildren, Gary and Tim Beckman, Shane, Leslie and Robbie Gustavus; 7 great-grandchildren, Meredith Myles, Eric Beckham, Hunter, Zachary Gage and Jordan Gustavus.


He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Gene Crafton, brothers, Ralph "Snooks", Gerald "Doc", Tommie and Carl Crafton; and sisters Shirley Ward, Lena Mullhollen and Edna Allen

Jeffery Wayne Davis 



Jeffery Wayne Davis, “Big Red” 34, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday February 19, 2008 at St. Bernards Medical Center. 
He was born April 25, 1973 in Jonesboro, was a 1991 graduate of Nettleton High School and lived in Paragould since 2003. He was a truck driver for Star Transportation for five years and a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir, member of the Master’s Men, was a teacher for the Children’s Church, and the game leader in the AWANA program. He loved to sing praises to God. 

Preceded in death by his maternal grandfather; Leland Stutts, Paternal grandfathers; Leland Davis and Jim Moulder. 

Survived by his loving wife of ten and half years; Tonya Davis of the home. 

Two sons; William Shane Mullins and Jerry (Jay) Mullins both of the home. 

One daughter; Brittney LeAnn Holden of the home. 

Father; Leslie W. Davis of Jonesboro. Step Mother; Donna Davis of Bono.

Ada May Crow




Ada May Crow, 80, of Paragould, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 in Paragould. 

She was born May 17, 1927 in Beech Grove the daughter of the late Edgar and Bertha Williams Crump. 
She is also preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Jennings, second husband, Harold Daniels, son, Bobby Dale, four brothers and three sisters. 
Mrs. Crow was a nurse’s aide in Philadelphia, Mississippi.

She leaves behind her husband, James Crow of the home; sister, Glenna (Dora) Goss of Trumann; sons and their spouses: Billy and Jenny Jennings of Orlando, Florida; Lonnie and Sue Jennings of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters and their spouses: Sharon and Doug Hutchison of Philadelphia, Mississippi, Donna and Art Greenfield, Vickie and Mel Allshouse, Charlene Lovelace, Brenda Jennings, all of Phoenix; six step-daughters, two stepson, 24 grandchildren, 42, great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Jennifer Mitchell


Jennifer Diane (Cross) Mitchell, 31, of Marmaduke, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, in Paragould.
Jennifer was born Nov. 5, 1976, to Noble and Judy Cross of Marianna, Ark. She married her loving husband, David, on Oct. 2, 2005. She was a member of the Marmaduke First Baptist Church, and was a housewife. She enjoyed spending time at home with her kids.
Jennifer is preceded in death by her parents, Noble and Judy Cross of Marianna; a nephew, Hunter Joshua Allen Dachs of Paragould; and a niece, Elizabeth Anne Dachs of Paragould.


She is survived by her husband, David E. Mitchell, of the home; a son, Dustin Mitchell, of the home; a daughter, Chloe Faye Mitchell, of the home; a sister and brother-in-law Joy and Josh Dachs of Paragould; two sisters, Tammy Ballard of Stuttgart and Jeanett Cross of Shreveport, La.; a brother, Terry Cross of New Mexico; her mother and father-in-law, Marvin and Jenell Mitchell of Marmaduke; two brothers-in-law, James and Dennis Mitchell; both of Marmaduke; a sister-in-law, Melissa Mitchell of Paragould; five nieces and nephews Tonlee Mitchell, Kyla Mitchell, D.J. Mitchell, Hailee Mitchell and Catherine Hankins; a very special friend, Kelsey Hollis, of Paragould; and host of other relatives and friends.


Jennifer was one of the most loving people you could ever meet. She never met a stranger, and would do anything she could to help someone in need. She loved her Lord, and she loved her husband and her children more than anything.


The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Marmaduke First Baptist Church in Marmaduke. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Kim Bridges, will follow the visitation. The family wishes everyone attend in casual dress. 


Services will continue at Providence Cemetery in Lafe where a small graveside ceremony will be held. Phillips Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be James Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell, Dustin Mitchell, Tim Quinn, Josh Dachs and Joel Hollis.

Earl Rockwell Sr., 81, of Paragould passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born April 3, 1930.

Floyd David Ward, 75, passed away Wednesday February 20, 2008 in Pine Bluff. He was born October 30, 1932 in Paragould to John and Goldie Ward. He was of Baptist belief.

Walter Leamon Glasgow, 85, of Marmaduke went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2008. He was born on December 12, 1922 in Mo-Ark. Leamon was of the Baptist faith and was a farmer and cattleman for most his life. 


He was preceded in death by his first wife, of 53 years, Sara Alice (Smith) Glasgow; his parents, Orbon and Mary (Hinkle) Glasgow and step-mother, Emeline (Hinkle) Glasgow; five brothers, Johnny, Earl, Jack, George and Dick Glasgow; two sisters, Mary Viola Carr Glasgow and Imogene (Glasgow) Dees.

Linda Sue Ballard Miller 


Linda Sue Ballard Miller, 60, of Paragould went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. 


Linda was born on September 5, 1947 in Egypt, Arkansas. She was a devoted member of Robb’s Chapel Baptist Church, and was employed by Emerson Electric for 34 years. 


Survivors include her mother, Lucille Ballard of Paragould; husband, “J.P.” John Paul Miller Sr. of the home; one daughter, Carla Miller Wilson and son-in-law, Tim Wilson, II. of Paragould; two sons, John Paul Miller, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Karen Miller of Paragould and Jeffrey Miller of Springfield, Illinois; four grandchildren: Zachary Miller, Kailee Rowland, Kayne Wilson and Klaire Wilson; two sisters, Theresa Box and Phyllis Tinker; and numerous nieces and nephews. 


Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her father, Orville Ballard and one son, Jerry Miller. 
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm on Saturday, February 23rd, at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Robb’s Chapel Baptist Church in Paragould with Pastor John M. Slatton and Pastor Royce Boling officiating. 


Burial will follow at Coffman Cemetery.

Wilburn Allen Wortham, 71, of Paragould died Friday, February 22, 2008, at his residence. 

He was a retired farmer and carpenter. 

Survivors include his daughters, Donna Howard and Tabbitha Swiney; sons, Randy Wortham, Tony Wortham and Jeff Wortham, all of Paragould, and Douglas Wortham of Cherokee Village; and brothers, Edward Wortham of Paragould and Youel Wortham of Murrey, Ky. 

Graveside services were held in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Gary Wortham and Doug Wortham officiated. Arrangements were by Heath Funeral Home, Oak Hill Chapel.

Paul (De) DeWitt Robeson  



Paul DeWitt (De) Robeson, 93 went to be with the Lord February 22, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was a faithful deacon and adult Sunday School teacher at Big Creek Baptist Church for over forty years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Nuthamstead, England with the 398th Bomb squadron. 


He was born May 27, 1914 in Blytheville, Arkansas and was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin DeWitt and Mary Elizabeth (Holbert) Robeson; four brothers: Dexter, Claude, Frank and Ray; one sister Ruth Maerker, and one nephew, Bill West. 


He is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 66 years, Nollie, one daughter and son-in-law; Debbie and Jerry Black, one son and daughter-in-law; Doug and Debbie Robeson all of Paragould, grandchildren Julie Moreno, Amy (Mike) Deatherage, Libby (Allen) Cone, Ryan Robeson; grandson-in-love, Shane Black and his family; great-grandchildren Isabella and Lucas Deatherage and Zebedee Cone; sister Hazel Wright of Florida, and Ann Tucker of Missouri and several nieces and nephews. 


His family wishes to thank/acknowledge caregiver, Vickie Taylor, without whose help he couldn’t have lived at home his last two years. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center or Arkansas Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Hospital.

(November 9, 1924 - February 23, 2008) 


Lorene Petersen, 83, of Paragould passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Greene Acres Nursing Home. 
She was born November 11, 1924 in Beech Grove, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Charles Jefferson and Esther Owens Bohanning. She was also preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband, Vincent Petersen, daughter, Linda Petersen and her brother, J.C. Bohanning. 


She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Petersen of Lake Worth, Florida, Jeffrey Petersen of Salt Lake City, Utah; her daughter, Julie Dunbar and husband Ronnie, of Paragould; two grandsons, Vincent Shea of Paragould, Ryan Shea of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; granddaughters, Sarah and Hannah Petersen, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; along with her sister-in-law, Peggy Bohanning of Paragould; two nieces, Pam Burk of Beech Grove and Bridgette Chunn of Paragould. 


The family would like to thank the staff of Greene Acres Nursing Home for the Wonderful care they gave to our mother while she was there.

Carl Larry Glover 67, of Paragould formerly of Piggott, Died Saturday February 23, 2008, at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.

Floyd Odell Wineland, 80, of Jonesboro died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at his residence. 

He was born on April 12, 1927, at Shugtown into the family of Arthur and Hissie Perry Wineland. For 50 years he was owner and operator of Wineland Sand & Gravel. 

He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member and deacon at Ridgecrest Missionary Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Wineland of the home; one son, Jeff Wineland and his wife Chris of Georgetown, Texas; one daughter, Linda Brooks of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Eric Thompson of Jonesboro, Jason Thompson of Nashville, Tenn., and Daniel Wineland of Georgetown; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Marion and Charles Wineland of Paragould, Art Wineland of Mountain Home, Dennis Wineland of San Antonio and Raymond Wineland of Viola; and three sisters, Ruby House and Fay Bryant of Paragould and Diane Rodgers of Naples, Fla. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Elanor Wineland; his parents, Arthur and Hissie Wineland; one sister, Patricia Wineland; and one brother, Otis Wineland. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Roller-Farmers Funeral Chapel with Gary Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Frankie C. Tickler


Frankie C. Tickler, age 76, of Shiocton, died on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at her residence. 

She was born on December 24, 1931, in Lafe, Ark. daughter of the late Frank & Eva (Howe) Ramer. On Dec. 17, 1968, she married Robert Tickler in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 2002. Frankie and Robert owned and operated a sod farm in Black Creek for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a nephew, Gary Ramer.
The funeral service for Frankie was Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in Shiocton with Fr. Norman Krutzik officiating. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery in the Town of Bovina. Friends called directly at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Alvalee Norman Church 



Alvalee Norman Church, 80, of Paragould died Monday, February 25, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born August 2, 1927 in Beech Grove the daughter of Alvin and Delitha Crump Mandrell. 
She was retired from Ely & Walker Shirt Factory and a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church.
Alvalee is preceded in death by her first husband, Jim Norman; second husband, Arthur Church; her parents; and two brothers, Buford and Wilford Mandrell. 


Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Paula Norman of Paragould; grandchildren, Amanda Pillow and husband Jonathan, Sarah Dearing and husband, Jamey, Laura Norman and Adam Norman; great grandchildren, Madeline and Andrea Pillow and Avery Dearing. 


Her life will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 27th at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Eddie Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. 


The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Beech Grove United Methodist Church.

Floyd C. Johnston 


Floyd C. Johnston, 77, of Memphis, formerly of Paragould, AR., passed away Monday, February 25, 2008 at Kirby Pines Manor. 
He was a United States Navy veteran, who served during the Korean war, member and former deacon of Highland Street Church of Christ, retired from Exxon and Crye-Leike, member of Civitan, and a life-long blood donor. He developed and taught Senior Citizens exercise classes, organized class reunions for his graduating class of 1948 at Greene County Tech High School in Paragould, AR., and was a devoted Memphis State fan. 


He was preceded in death by two brothers; and one great-granddaughter. 
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charla Eason Johnston of Memphis; daughter, Karen Coulter of Demorest, Ga.; son, Terry (Shirley) Johnston of Arlington, TN., brother Elvis Johnston of Paragould, AR., five grandchildren, Emily and Tyler Coulter; Missy Oldham, Michael and Matthew Blevins; and four great-grandchildren. 


Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 26 from 5-8 p.m. at Bartlett Funeral Home. Services will be on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at Sycamore View Church of Christ. 
Burial in Memphis Memory Gardens.

Janet Stockert Idso 


Janet (Dover) Stockert Idso, 68, formerly of Paragould, died Monday, February 25, 2008, in Fort Smith. 
Born September 23, 1939, in Paragould, she was a nurse and caregiver, and of the Baptist faith. 


Survivors include two sons, Jeremy Stockert of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, John Stockert of Jonesboro; and one daughter, Jackie Scarborough of Ft. Smith. She is also survived by two sisters, Martha Martin and Joyce Underwood, both of Paragould; three grandchildren, Caleb, Kaitlyn and Callie Stockert; and by two cousins, Linda Patten and John Williamson. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alba Mae Dover and her husband, Jerry Stockert. 


Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 27th, at Linwood Cemetery, with Jeremy Stockert officiating. The procession will leave at 1:50 P.M. 


Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Violet Marie Hampton 


Violet Marie Hampton, age 77, passed away at home on February 25, 2008. She was born April 3, 1930 in Kennett, Missouri to Joe and Sarah Ella (Brown) Smith. 
She married Bill Hampton in 1954 and they moved to Michigan in 1964, where she worked for Michigan Bell Telephone until her retirement in 1986 with 27 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God and later Lowell Assembly of God. 


Vi was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lisa Morrell; her parents; and five siblings. 
She is survived by her husband, Bill; children, David (Shelley) Hampton, Glenn Hampton, Steve Hampton, Marilyn (Jim) Acker and Theresa Smith; grandchildren, Joe Hampton, Monica Hampton, Sarah (Derek) Kilpatrick, Melissa Richard, Chad Richard and Cassie Hampton; great-grandchildren, Nova, Stephanie, Olivia, Jayden and Caden; and several nieces and nephews. 


Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, February 29 at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Kim Bridges officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Estelle Lucinda Hampton Shelton 


After a long life of devotion and love to her children and extended family, Estelle Shelton left this earth at the age of 97 years to be with her Lord on February 25, 2008. 
She was born November 29, 1910, in Clay County, Arkansas, to Haywood and Mary Hampton. She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended Union Central Church of Christ until she became confined to her home. 


Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Shelton; her son, Chester Shelton; an infant daughter, Lottie Nadine; a son-in-law, Vernon Stokes; a great grandson, Jeffrey Mudry; seven brothers; and two sisters. 


She is survived by four sons, Junior (Arletta) Shelton of Pevely, MO, William (Barbara) Shelton of Marmaduke, Danny (Brenda) Shelton of DeSoto, MO, Barry (Cheri) Shelton of Paragould; four daughters, Bobbie (Bud) Howell and Mary (Rondle) Damron, all of Paragould, Janis (Bill) Chittenden of St. Ann, MO, Linda (Johnny) Nelson and a daughter-in-law, Judy Shelton, all of Marmaduke. She is also survived by twenty-nine grandchildren; fifty-eight great grandchildren; and seventeen great great grandchildren from all over the world; one half-sister, Eulell Jones Morten of Paragould; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. 


Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 P.M., Wednesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. 
Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, February 28th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Wooldridge, Scotty Hickson and Charles Abanathy officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. 
Grandsons Josh Chittenden, David Nelson, Vance Shelton, Sam Shelton, John Williams, Mark Shelton and Tim Shelton will serve as pallbearers. Her other grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.

William Drew Compton 



William Drew “Bill” Compton, 91,of Delaplaine, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008. He was born on March 17, 1916, at Delaplaine to Drew and Bertie Gates Compton. He was a farmer near Delaplaine from the 1940s into the 1990s. 

He and Myrtle, his wife of 69 years, moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in 1994 to be near their daughter. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgetta; his parents; one brother, James Compton of Delaplaine; and one sister, Geneva Bridges of Corona, CA. 

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; daughter, Peggy and husband John of Broken Arrow; one granddaughter, Laura Kinsey and husband Alfred of Austin, Texas; one brother, Harold Compton of Medford, Ore.; three sisters, Hilda Galloway of Placerville, Calif., Juanita Rogers of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Evelyn Thomsen of San Diego, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. 

He loved traveling, farming, gardening, fishing, hunting, telling jokes and going to church. He was a member of Delaplaine Baptist Church for more than 50 years and a member of Forest Ridge Baptist Church since 2000. He was active at Delaplaine Baptist Church as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher of Intermediates, Training Union director and he enjoyed being Bible quiz leader. 

The family will receive friends at Heath Funeral Home Friday from 6-8 p.m. His life will be celebrated at Delaplaine Baptist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. with burial following in Jones Ridge Cemetery.

Huston (Preacher) Smith


Houston (Preacher) Smith, 57, of Paragould, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Green Acres Nursing Home. 

He was born in Monette on April 19, 1920, to Truman Bishop Smith, Jr. and Mollie Myrtle Bost Smith. Mr. Smith was a farmer and factory worker in the past; loved hunting, fishing, and gardening; and served the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 18th Airborne Corps during World War II. He participated in both the central Europe and Aleutian Islands campaigns, for which he was awarded two bronze stars. He was a member of the Church of Christ.


He leaves behind his sons, Elton Smith and his wife, Janette, of Brookland and Leonard Dale Smith of Jonesboro; a daughter, Gail Fletcher and her husband, Ruben, of Swartz Creek, Mich.; a sister, Lillian (Short) Robbins of Jacksonville, Fla. and grandchildren, Steve Smith and Marie Smith of New Castle, Ind., Mika Setttlemoir of Baltimore, Md., Janssen Settlemoire and his wife, Brandy, of Brookland, Scott Sibert, Angela Combs, both of Paragould, and Tracy Bryan of Marion and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and two brothers.


Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Friday at Pine Log Cemetery at 11 a.m. with Leo Fortenberry officiating. Visitation will be held today from 5-8 p.m. at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will included Larry Nall, Leonard Nelson, Brad Nelson, Doug Milligan, Blake Robinson and Len B. Nall.

Anthony David Smith 



Anthony David Smith, 32, of Marmaduke, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. 
Born September 20, 1975, in Paragould, he was an employee of G-W Construction, and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. 


Survivors include his parents, Larry and Peggy Garner of Paragould; one daughter, Allie Smith of Marmaduke; and grandmother, Eileen Jacot of Paragould. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kellie and Willie Williams, and Tricia and Mark Ellington, all of Paragould; nephew, Aaron Williams; nieces, Sadie Williams, Maigen Massey, Jennifer Ellington, Amber Williams; and by several aunts and uncles. 
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Braxton Smith; and by grandparents, Lorene Dunlap and Virgil Dunlap. 


Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. 
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1st, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Melba Cook 



Melba Cook, 71, of Bono died at her residence Wednesday, February 27, 2008. 

Melba was born in Zulcht, Texas, to Homer and Zelma Pate Wood on February 22, 1937. She was the owner of Gingerbread House Day Care in Jonesboro for a number of years. Melba was a member of Lorado Baptist Church and Olive Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star No. 147. 

She is survived by her husband, Marvell Cook of the home; two sons, Gary Cook of Virginia Beach, Va., and Glenn Cook of Jonesboro; a 

sister, Evelyn Wood Morris of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Christy Bradway, Jacob Cook, Justin Cook and Chase Cook; two great-grandchildren, Jesse Bradway and Connor Bradway. 

Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Zelma Wood; a sister, Susie Wood; and a great-grandson, Tristan Bradway. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Langford-Bookout Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Lorado Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jacob Cook, Justin Cook, Chase Cook, Bob Hundley, Earl Parks and Joe Rayburn. 

Visitation will be from 5-7 this evening at the funeral home.

Lurvine E. Herbert 


Lurvine E. Smith Herbert, age 91, of Houston, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. 
Born December 22, 1916, Mrs. Herbert, was originally from Walcott, Arkansas, Houston had been her home since 1939. She was an active member of Baptist Temple for over 65 years. At Baptist Temple, she devotedly worked with children and youth for many years and her home was always a gathering place for family and friends. Mrs. Herbert loved her Lord, her family, and her church, and she will be greatly missed by the many who loved her. 


She is preceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gifford J. Herbert, and two children, Gifford Robin Herbert and Gloria Jean Herbert, her parents, Bob and Mollie Cupp Smith; sisters, Rhoda Pickett and Pauline Boozer.


She is survived by son, Carl Edward Herbert and wife, Gail of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter, Jane Elizabeth Neighbors and husband Bill, of Houston; brother Bob Smith and wife Gussie of Fayetteville; one grandson and 4 greanddaughter; 6 great grandsons and one great granddaughter; one great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. 


Visitation will be held from 11:00 until the procession leaves the funeral home at 12:00 PM for a graveside service at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Bobby Jean Husted


Bobby Jean Husted, 79, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on February 27, 2008. She was born in Paragould, AR. 

Survivors include husband Daniel George Husted, Sister Betty King, Nieces Brenda Michael (Rex), Debra King, Pamela Levy (Bernard), Grand niece & nephews, Billy Mercurio, Dustin Kebble, Chelsea Kebble, Steven Michael, Jamie & Andy Cordova. Great-Grand niece & nephews, Laurel, Rafe & Flynn Cordova. 

Bobby is preceded in death by her mother Joyce Dickerson. She was loved and will be missed greatly by her family. Bobby enjoyed spending time with her husband, and crafts. She created beautiful ceramics and enjoyed spending time in the kitchen with her husband Dan. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at Velda Rose Methodist Church in Mesa, AZ.

Jack Small 



Jack Small, 64, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at home in Boydsville. 

Mr. Small owned Northeast Arkansas Monument Co. in Boydsville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and talking on his Citizens Band radio. 

He was a member of Hickoria Missionary Baptist Church. 

On Sept. 29, 1963, he was united in marriage to Betty Fay Brady Small. She survives. 

Other survivors include two sons, Lendell (Mary) Small of Boydsville and Harold (Mary) Small of Pollard; three brothers, Junior Small of Greenway, John and Charley Small, both of Corning; sister, Lucy Banks of Seymour, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Michael, Jacob, Tyler and Natalie Small, and Zachary and Alex Redmon. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Bessie Small; brother, Mintrel Small; and two sisters, Hazel French and Opal Howell. 

Visitation will be Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. 

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. with Jack Bearden and Todd Milburn officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Rector.

Walter Thomas Davidson  


Walter Thomas Davidson, 88, of Paragould, passed away at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center on Thursday, February 28, 2008.
Born December 30, 1919, in Biggers, AR., the son of Albert and Rhoda Key Davidson, he was of the Baptist faith.


In 1939, he joined the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Ranger, the first ship to be constructed from the keel up as an aircraft carrier. The ship participated in the invasion of Morocco, and attacked the Norwegian port of Bodo. Later in the war, he transferred to the U.S.S. Ticonderoga and served in the Pacific.
Walter retired from the St. Louis General Motors plant in 1982.


Survivors include his wife, Wanda Fonzine Hester Davidson of the home; a daughter, Tanya Faith Lewis of Halliday; one brother, Leman “Bill” Davidson of Forrest City; and a half-brother, Albert Davidson of Ravenden Springs. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Drew Voss and Nikki Lewis Yancey; five great grandchildren, Jada Voss, Faith Yancey, Zander Voss, Phoenix Voss and Zoie Yancey; and by a cousin, Ann Hopkins of Paragould.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Rhoda Davidson; and by the aunt and uncle who raised him, Roy and Vina Hopkins.
Visitation will be today from 6 until 9 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, at Finch Cemetery, with Ron Pickney officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Sunday.
Drew Voss, Jeramie Yancey, Dewayne Lewis, Eddie Hester, David Reeves and Jimmy Lawrence will serve as pallbearers.

Alfred Milton Minser, 80, of Walnut Ridge, died Friday, February 29, 2008. 
He was born April 13, 1927 to the late Alfred and Jessie Minser in Pitts, Arkansas.

Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Montgomery, 85, of Paragould, formerly of Blytheville, died Friday, February 29, 2008. 

She leaves her children, Dottie Montgomery, Renee Gardner and her husband Allen, all of Paragould, and Brad Montgomery and his wife Joyce of Piggott; grandchildren, Jordan Gardner, Josh Gardner and his wife Nichole and their daughter Camdyn, expected in June, all of Paragould, and Rodney Young and his wife Becky of Piggott; and one great-grandchild, Danielle Huffstetler. 

Graveside services will be Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery at Blytheville with visitation from 1 p.m. until service time in Cobb Funeral Home.
