Mary Katheryne DuBose Ray



Mary Katheryne DuBose Ray, age 63, of Paragould, AR, formerly of Crossett, AR, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, AR. She was born on January 8, 1947 in Crossett, AR. Mrs. Ray was a graduate of UAM at Monticello and worked for the Child Protective Services Division of the Arkansas Department of Human Services where she retired after 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank A. and Doris Noble Hancock; her mother, Blanche Hancock Turlington; step-father, R. W. “Slim” Turlington and father, Bobby Cornelius DuBose.

Survivors include a son, Robert Ray of Tulsa, OK; a daughter, Jenny Katheryne Sondergaard of Paragould, AR; two sisters, Sherrye DuBose Lewis of Crossett, AR, Connie DuBose Boggs of McGehee, AR; four grandchildren, Rebecca Dawn Arvieux of Kansas City, KA, Katheryne DyAnne Ray of Tulsa, OK, Katheryne Andrea Johnson of Crossett, AR and Charley Michael Babcock of Paragould, AR.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4th, 2:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donnie Dubose officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, AR.

Edith Lowanda Hester
 


Edith Lowanda Hester, 89, Paragould, went to her heavenly home December 2, 2010. She departed this life at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born July 5, 1921 in Piggott, AR, the daughter of the late Jeff and Florence Culpepper.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tillman; brothers, Jewel, Wilbur, Roy and Donald Culpepper; sisters, Alma Wright, Mary Bontempo and most recently, Dorothy Monozym; son in law, Bill Washington and great grandson, Tristan Huggins. She was a life long member of Alexander Baptist Church and the Alexander and Bard community. She worked at Greene County Tech and The Shirt Factory. She was a loving wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters and son in law: Linda Washington of Paragould; Cathy and Dr. James Huggins of Beech Bluff, TN; grandchildren: Robin (Chris) Camp, Machelle (Shane) Wallace of Paragould, Kyle (Christie) Huggins of Harrisonburg, VA; great grandchildren: Brittany, Shayna, Hunter Wallace; Zac and Will Camp, all of Paragould, Blake and Lauren Huggins of Harrisonburg, VA.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 3rd, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be Saturday, December 4th, 10:30 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Dr. James Huggins and Reverend Wade Drury officiating. Burial will follow at Finch Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Huggins, Ronnie and Steven Hill, Dan Westbrook, Tommy Hester, Adam Fahr. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Evans, E. J. Lorren and Robert Elmore. Memorials may be made to Alexander Baptist Church.

Janette LaVerne Powers
 


Janette LaVerne Powers, 68 of Paragould passed away Thursday December 3, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident. Janette was born March 3, 1941, she was a disabled beautician and a member of the 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Homer Spicer.

 
Survivors include daughters, Renee Conway of Piggott, Keetra Janette Carner of Paragould and Tamarah Lee Green of Lawrenceburg, TN; mother Belle Spicer of Paragould; brother, Larry Spicer of Tulsa, OK; sister, Carolyn Sue Spicer of Cherokee Village, AR. ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 7th, at 1:00 p.m. following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. until service time at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Jim Rupard officiating.
There will be no burial.

Wilma Lee Howard
 


Wilma Lee Howard, 85, of Paragould, passed away December 5, 2010 at Green Acres Nursing Home.

She was born July 4, 1925 at Paragould to Sherman and Julia Crossno.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Harold Howard; one daughter, Dorothy Jean Howard; four brothers, Bill, Jerry, Joe and Charlie, two sister, Sterline Beasley and Margret Grimes.

Survivors include seven sons, Noel and Judy Howard of Morton, IL., Jerry and Sharon Howard, Melvin and Cathy Howard and Kenneth Howard all of Paragould, AR., Roger Howard of Walnut Hill, FL., Harold Dean and Kay Howard of Black Rock, AR., Kelvin and Charlette Howard of Van Cleave, MS; one daughter, Deronda Gatlin of Paragould, AR.; eighteen grandchildren; twenty nine great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 8th, 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with David Stallings Officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 in the Center Hill Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Drew Grady, Robert Gatlin, Russell Gatlin, Rodney Bell, Jeremy Howard, and Jason Howard.

Danny Marvin
 


Danny Marvin, 44, of Paragould passed away Monday, December 6, 2010. He was born May 17, 1966 at Paragould to Wilma Strickland.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, D.S Marvin and Larverna Cox Marvin; two uncles, JD Marvin, James Marvin; two aunts, Wilda Lenhart and Orine Marvin.

Survivors include his mother, Wilma and step-father, Dennis Strickland; two brothers, Michael Strickland of Bryant, AR., Phillip and Amy Strickland of Youngs Town, OH.; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Friday, December 10th, 10:30 until12:00 p.m., prior to the service at Phillips Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be Friday 12:30 p.m., at New Friendship Cemetery with Art Smith officiating.

Wanda Earlene Dickinson
 


Wanda Earlene Dickinson, 83 of Paragould, formerly of Marmaduke, passed away Tuesday December 8, 2010 at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Wanda was born January 5, 1927, she was a retired nurse and a member of the Marmaduke United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Wayne Dickinson; parents, Earl and Mary Pannell Hutcheson; brother Gaylon Hutcheson and grandson, Bradley Dickinson.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Carol Dickinson of Paragould and Freddy and Teresa Dickinson of Rockledge, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Wade Taylor of Paragould; brother, Ricky Hutcheson of Poplar Bluff, MO., six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, December 10th, 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Kim Bridges officiating.
Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James B., Don, Rick and Sandy Dickinson, Foy Wayne Gilliam and Darrell Smoot. Honorary pallbearer will be Eugene Jackman.

Bonna Jeane Webbe
 


Bonna Jeane Webbe, 80, Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born March 19, 1930 in Hickory Ridge, AR. the daughter of the late John Swain and Nana May Holleman Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James P. Webbe, sister and three brothers. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Jonesboro and a former member of Center Hill First Baptist Church in Paragould.

She is survived by daughters and sons in law: Evelyn (Jonathan) Gold of Brewster, MA., Terra (Roger) Jackson of Nashville, TN; son: Rick Webbe of Sherwood, AR., sister, Sue McCulley of Paragould; brother, Don Brown of Olive Branch, MS., grandchildren: Matthew and Christine Vierling, Amber and Colby Jones, Catherine Jackson; great grandchild, Lane Jones.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11th, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Jonesboro with Reverends Danny Taylor, Chris Cooper and Michael Welch officiating.

Wanda June Huffman

 

Wanda June Huffman, 68, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Mrs. Huffman was born July 6, 1942, in Beckley, West Virginia and she was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Sherrell Huffman of Ohio, Jim and Julia Huffman of Paragould; two daughters and a son-in-law, Annette and Tim Kempel of Ravenna, Ohio, and Sandra Davis of Owosso, Michigan. She is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and June Woodrum of Ohio; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Buster McClung of Charmco, West Virginia, Lillie and Larry McCurry of Ohio ; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvis Huffman.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 14th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

B. L. Wallace
 


B. L. “Hoss” Wallace, 82, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010, at his home.

He was born December 15, 1927, in Craighead County to Gusta and Birdie Wallace. He was retired from the Greene County Road Department as a grader operator.

Hoss loved to fish, hunt, work in his garden and spend time with his grandchildren, who thought he was the best Papa a grandchild could ask for.

Hoss is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ollie Wallace of the home; one son, Randy (Lisa) Wallace of Paragould; three daughters, Carolyn (James) Tilley of Monette, Judy (Joe) Stanfill of Paragould and Marsha (John) Wallace of Caruthersville, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kimberly (Bert) Holliday, Lee McClung, Christopher (Samantha) Tilley, Stephanie (David) Poteet, Crystal (Jason) Traywick, Heather (Robert) Tilley and Nick Wallace; two stepgrandchildren, Amanda Maclin and Nicholas Wallace; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Freda Bateman; and a great host of family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Gusta and Birdie Wallace; four brothers, Lelon, Berfferd, Ronald and Stanley Wallace; and two sisters, Opal and Lillian Wallace.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Phillips Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 13th, 1:00 p.m. in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

Bernie Leroy Whitaker  

 Bernie Leroy Whitaker, 94, of Rector, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

 Mr. Whitaker was born in Rector, on August 4, 1916 to Norman and Calva Whitaker. He was a farmer, a World War II veteran and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rector.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eva Whitaker; a brother, Irvin Whitaker; and four sisters, Mary and Iva Vangilder, Fay Whitaker, and Nell Jenkins.

 Survivors include several nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.

 Visitation will be Monday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector.

 Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 14th, 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel of Rector with James H. Dortch, Mace Straubel and Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery of Rector.

Theda Wiseman Pillow
 


Theda Wiseman Pillow, 87, formerly of Paragould, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010, in Littleton, Colorado.

She was born August 2, 1923, in Paragould, Arkansas to William and Angeline Wiseman. Mrs. Pillow was a homemaker and a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Douglas Pillow; two daughters, Julia Katherine Pillow and Frances Pillow; and by one brother, Bill Wiseman.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Pillow of Hawthorne, Florida, Chris and Katherine Pillow of Littleton, Colorado and Arthur and Dee Pillow of Jonesboro. She is also survived by five granddaughters and their husbands, Megan and Jonathan Davis of China Grove, North Carolina, Amelia Pillow of Portland, Oregon, Melissa Pillow of Littleton, Erika and Jason Gritters of Highland Ranch, Colorado, Julia Pillow of Memphis; and by one grandson, Scott Jackson of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 21st, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould with Tom Letchworth officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 noon until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Ranae Lynette Shepherd, 56, of Paragould, passed away at her home, Sunday, December 12, 2010. She was born November 29, 1954, in Paragould, and retired as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration.

Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Dean Shepherd; and her mother, Betty Downs.

Survivors include her father, John Arie Downs; her son, Jay Shepherd; one brother, Scott Downs; and two sisters, Pauletta Hollis and Michelle Downs, all of Paragould.

Memorial services will be Saturday, December 18th, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Blake Langston officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Goldie Vestine Hale
 


Goldie Vestine Hale, 90 of Lake City, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Mrs. Hale was born August 9, 1920 in Mounds, Arkansas, to Amsy Lee and Mary Ethel Hampton. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her daughter, Earline Johnson of Paragould; one granddaughter, Cindy Friar and her husband, Thomas; and two great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Kaitlyn Friar. She is also survived by two brothers, Ravis Hampton and his wife, Carol, of Charlotte, Michigan, and Melvin Hampton of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; two sisters, Lucille Seigo and her husband, Dan, of Lansing, Michigan, and Faustine Hale of Paragould; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her husband, “Babe” Hale; her parents; two brothers, Elvis and Zeke; and a son-in-law, Johnny Johnson.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 17th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pine Log Cemetery.

Juanita Vesteline Edwards

 

Juanita Vestelene Edwards, 84, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born September 20, 1926, in Paragould, Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker, and a member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buell Edwards; her parents, Vester and Dottie Vera Higgins; and by a brother, Jim Higgins. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Harland and Tywana Edwards, and Harold and Rebecca Edwards, all of Paragould; three grandsons, Keith Edwards of Little Rock, Shane Edwards of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jonathan Edwards of San Diego, California; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Edwards of Fayetteville. She is also survived by one great granddaughter, Tila Edwards of Las Vegas; one nephew, Tim Higgins of Bryant, Arkansas; and one niece, Sandra Wood of Cardwell, Missouri.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 5:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 20th, 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Art Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Knot Cemetery.

Daniel Clois Yates, 31, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday December 15, 2010 at his home. He was born August 10, 1979 in Lorado, Arkansas and lived in Jonesboro for 3 years, moving here from Smackover, Arkansas. He was an assistant pressman for Quebecor World Press.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clois and Bertha Finney Yates and one brother, Dennis Hicks.

Survived by three brothers, Jason Yates of McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, Chris Hicks of Rogers, Arkansas and Donny Hicks of Lillie, Louisiana.

Two sisters, Tammy Dunham of Harrisburg, Arkansas and Lisa Maroney of Smackover, Arkansas.

A memorial service will be Friday, December 17th, 2:00 p.m. at the Perry Funeral Home in Eldorado, Arkansas with Rev. David Preston officiating. Burial will be private.

 Almus Cecil Grayham, 91, of Marmaduke, Arkansas passed from this life Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

 Surviving Mr. Grayham is his wife, Delle Tucker Grayham of the home, 2 sons, Ray Grayham of Marmaduke, and Glen and Belinda Grayham of Paragould, 2 grandchildren, Taylor and Tanner Grayham.

Carol Ann Story



Carol Story, 59, of Brookland passed away December 15, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was born September 14, 1951, in Flint, MI., to the late James and Dorothy (McCoy) Ellington.

Preceding her in death was her first husband, Richard Wood and son, Joseph Wood Sr.

Surviving members of her family is her husband Richard Story, whom she met while playing bingo at the VFW building; a daughter and her fiancé, Amy Wood and Rod Black of Laingsburg, MI., five grandchildren, Jeffy Wood, Alan Yoder, Harley Yoder, Joey Wood and Trisha and Jeremy Joiner, two great-grandchildren, Bladen and Olivia Joiner, brother, David Ellington of Davison, MI., and two sisters, Laura (Jeannie) Moore of Burt, MI., and Lynn Rodriguez of Flint, MI.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the Irby Funeral Home, Marmaduke.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 18th, 1:00 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke with Gary Morris officiating. Interment will be at the Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery.

Theresa Montero
 

Theresa Montero, 61, of Paragould passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born May 28, 1949 in Havana Cuba to Ignacio and Clara Ulloa. Theresa was of Catholic belief; she was a hard working woman always helping others in time of need, loved by all. She will always be remembered and profoundly missed.

Survivors include one son, William Flores of Hialeah, FL.; one daughter, Jeannette Gladish of Paragould, AR.; one brother Ignacio Ulloa of Miami, FL and two grandchildren Carlye and Zoe Gladish.

There will be a visitation only Wednesday December 22nd, 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould, AR.

Laura Edith Bacon
 


Laura Edith Bacon, 99 of Paragould, passed away Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Mrs. Bacon was born on July 29, 1911 in Kittle, Arkansas, she was a homemaker and Methodist faith.

Laura loved her garden. Her kitchen table was the favorite gathering place for family and friends alike. She will be remembered for her home cooking, her generosity, a wonderful sense of humor and her hand made quilts.

Survivors include; two sons, Jim Bacon of Piggott, Arkansas, Bill and his wife Loretta Bacon of Hot Springs, Arkansas, two daughters, Carolyn and her husband Tom Watson of Paragould, Melba and her husband Montie Campbell of Lakeland, Florida. She was Granny to 14 grandchildren and over 30 great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years Albert Bacon, one son Charles Bacon and fourteen brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 21st, 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Williams officiating, burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Carolyn Baxter
 


Carolyn Eugenia Stevenson Baxter, 89, passed away peacefully December 17, 2010 surrounded by her children at Crestpark Nursing Home in Forrest City, Arkansas. She was born March 29, 1921, in Malden, Missouri to Lenzie Carroll Stevenson and Trixsye May Chandler Stevenson.

She lived most of her life in the Mounds, Arkansas community, later moving to Paragould, Arkansas. He lived her final two years at Crestpark Nursing Home in Forrest City, Arkansas.

Mrs. Baxter graduated from Malden High School in Malden, Missouri. She began college at Southeast Missouri State College. She married Archie Baxter January 5, 1941. She later graduated from Arkansas State University and taught at Greene County Tech, East School for more than thirty years.

She played the piano for Mounds Baptist Church. Later she moved her membership to Alexander Baptist Church where she taught the Women’s Sunday School Class.

After retiring in Paragould, Mrs. Baxter transferred her membership to East Side Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Sunday School Class and the Quilting Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Archie Baxter. Mrs. Baxter will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family, commitment to her church, and her dedication to teaching. She is survived by three children; Becky Baxter Mitchell (Dennis) of Harlingen, Texas, Bill Baxter (Holly) of Forrest City, Arkansas and Charley Baxter (Carole) of North Little Rock, Arkansas, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, and a special niece, Carolyn Nailing of Paragould, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 20th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walter Allen officiating, burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Troy Samuel Mitchell
 

Troy Samauel Mitchell, 81, of Paragould, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. He goes to meet his beloved mother Edith V. Ball and his beloved “maw,” Lillie Mae Culver.

Troy leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Mattie Hardaway Mitchell; three children: Rhonda Mitchell, O’Neal and Vikki Mitchell; five grandchildren: Jeffrey Mitchell, Scott Chamberlain, Shelby Mitchell, Anthony Chamberlain and Keith Ptasznik; and five great grandchildren: Kalynn, Alysa, Rudy, Melissa and Sam. Troy was the loving brother of James Ball, and the uncle of Wendy Gallagher, James, Jr., and Gregory Ball.

Troy was born June 2, 1929 in Evening Shade, Arkansas. He retired in 1985 with 30 years of service with the Detroit Department of Parks and Recreation as a Tree Artisan and a Greens Keeper Supervisor at Rouge Park Golf Course. Troy was a member of the Church of Christ.

His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends, cooking on the grill and riding his motorcycle. He told a good joke and was well known for his one-liners. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving and farming.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 21st, 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Gene Wood officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Tuesday 4:00 until 7:00 prior to the service.

Arthur Lewis Arnold, 91 of West Memphis passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Broadway Healthcare in West Memphis.

Mr. Arnold was born September 13, 1919, he was a retired Maintenance Electrician and a WWII Veteran, a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church in West Memphis.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Fleecie Arnold; 3 daughters, Mary Etta (Bill) Wells of Memphis, TN; Vonda (Dicky) Parker of Marion, AR; Bernetta (Mike) Bell of Arlington, TN; two sons, Charles (Jeanie) Arnold of Memphis, TN; Gary (Debbie) Arnold of Casscoe, AR; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne (Linda) Arnold of Warner Robins, GA

Lorene “Cricket” Ward, 84, formerly of Lafe, passed away December 19, 2010, at the Garden View Care Center in O’Fallon, Missouri. Cricket was born July 11, 1926, the daughter of Osmer and Haydee White. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Monte Kay and Larian Johnson, of Lake St. Louis, MO, one grandson Darin (Denise) Johnson and one step-grandson, Sam Carver of Wentzville, MO; three sisters: Lillie Gibson, Marvell (Junior) Strope, and Liz (Glenn) Howard, all of Paragould and one brother, George (Juanita) White of Glasgow, KY. Preceding her in death were her parents: Osmer and Haydee White, her husband, Wallace Ward, 3 sisters: Lula Wood, Lela and Lola White, 3 brothers: Homer, Leonard and Lewis White.

She was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church and was retired from the Ely & Walker Shirt Factory. She and her husband, Wallace, also managed the Lafe Cotton Gin for several years.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home, The celebration of her life will be Wednesday, December 22nd, 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel, with Reverend Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens.

Helen Florine Ray, 90, of Paragould, went Home to the Lord, Monday, December 20, 2010. She passed away at St Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was retired from Shugtown Retirement Home. She was a devoted member of Trinity Full Gospel who loved to go to church and loved to pray!

She was born October 26, 1920 in Clarkston, Missouri the daughter of the late William Claud "W.C." and Bertha Mae Pace Anders. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Odell Ray, daughter, Patsy Coral Ray, brothers, Buddy Anders and Vernon Anders.

Survivors include her sons: Marlin W. Ray of Paragould, Doyle W. Ray of, Paris, Tennessee, Troy Ray, Paragould; daughters: Mildred Lands of Ozark, Arkansas, Lorine Milholen of Wildersville, Tennessee. Marie Newman of Paragould, Linda McKinney of Heber Springs, Arkansas; sisters: Mary Crump of Paragould, Maxine Haggert of East Saint Louis, Illinois; 17 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, 17 Great Great Grandchildren and a host of other family and precious friends.

Winfred Dewayne McFall, 74 of Paragould passed away Tuesday December 21, 2010 at Heritage Gardens of Senath, MO. Winfred was born March 24, 1936, to Cardeal and Pearl Magdalene Cole McFall. He was a self-employed carpenter and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include sisters, Shirlene Bollinger of Paragould, Melba McMillan of Mission Viejo, CA and Barbara LeMoine of Punta Gorda, FL; sister-in-law, Glenda McFall of Paragould and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Cletis McFall, niece, Tammy Edgar and great nephew Lane Winn.

William Douglas Morrisett, 67 of Lafe passed away December 20, 2010 at the St. Bernard Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born April 9, 1943 to the late Richard and Mildred (Stone) Morrisett in Piggott, Arkansas.

Mrs. Dorthy Sue Adams, age 78 of Paragould, the widow of Mr. Leo Adams, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Leachville, she was the daughter of the late Hillman and Effie Harkey Potter and had lived most of her life in Leachville. Mrs. Adams had lived several years in Paragould and was a charter member of the Second Baptist Church in Paragould. She was retired from the former Brown Shoe Company in Leachville and the Monroe Auto Equipment in Paragould. She was currently associated with Flower Shop Network in Paragould. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son, Terry Lynn Adams, her infant daughter Linda Darlene Adams, a grandson Jeff Adams, and a son-in-law Glen Allen Brooks. She will be remembered as a loving mother by her children.

Survivors include, two daughters; Phyllis McFarland and her husband Ronnie of Leachville and Donna Brooks of Paragould, two brothers, Bobby Potter and his wife Barbara of Paragould, Bill Potter and his wife Theetta of Paragould, two sisters, Betty Hendrick and Joyce Soloducha both of Kansas City, Missouri. She also leaves five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 22nd, 2:00 p.m. at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Leachville Cemetery.

Larry Wayne Vinson, 66, of Ravenden passed away December 20, 2010 at UAMS in Little Rock. He was born March 10, 1944 in Jonesboro to Binford and Mary Etta Vinson. He was of Baptist faith, loved to deer hunt and fish.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Mary Kay Vinson Smith; one brother, Fred Crum; two sisters Garnetta Smith and Emma Lawson.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra and her husband, Younely Crawford of Paragould and Darlisa Vinson of Ravenden; one sister, Marie Vinson of Michigan; five grandchildren, Kimberly Vinson, L’Oreal Hamlett, Ashlyn Crawford, Ashley Box and Brianna Smith; one great-grandson, Traeson Box Moon.

Charlie Moore
 


Charlie Moore, son of the late Lando C. and Jewell McCormack Moore, was born December 13, 1950, at Paragould and passed from this earthly life on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, after a brave fight with cancer, at his residence at the age of 60 years.

Until he became disabled, he worked as a millwright at Nucor. He was a 1968 graduate of Southland High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1970 until 1972. One year of his service was a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Charlie is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Kiesha and Bary Bower of Muncy, PA., and Paige Moore of Arbyrd, MO.; a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Dale Coy of Paragould; two grandchildren, Olivia Bower and Jackson Bower, both of Muncy; a nephew, Tommy Coy of Little Rock; and two aunts, Rose Wilson of Searcy and Faye Roeder of Adrian, MI.

He is also survived by a special friend, Linda Baldridge.

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 27th, 11:00 a.m. in Cardwell Cemetery with Art Smith officiating and full military honors.

Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Spencer Sr. and Mary Osment Spencer, one daughter; Deborah, four brothers; Lee Spencer, Jr., Jack Spencer, Bob Spencer, James Spencer, one sister; Mary Sue Thompson.

Sarah Louise MacDonald, 79, resident of Paragould, formerly of Erie, PA, having lived in the Millcreek Township passed away Saturday December 25, 2010 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN. She was born November 19, 1931 in Sharon, PA., the daughter of the late Henry A. and Margaret MacLaughlin Young. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers. She was a graduate of Millcreek High School in Erie, PA. She was president of her childrens PTA in elementary, Junior High and High School.

She is survived by her husband: Richard MacDonald Sr, of the home; sons and daughters in law: Richard Allen MacDonald Jr. (Bobbi) of Hastings, FL, Mark Douglas MacDonald of Warm Springs, AR, Paul Neil MacDonald (Diane) of Cleveland, OH, Dean Lawrence MacDonald (Carrie) of Paragould, AR. Fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Erie and attended church locally at the First Presbyterian Church in Paragould. She will be missed by both communities and loved dearly by her family and friends.

Juanita Evelyn Patton Lee, 87, of Manila passed from this life Monday, December 27, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.

She was born August 17, 1923 in Paragould to the late Fred and May Minetree Patton. She was a member of the Blackwater Church of God. She enjoyed going to church and being with her church family, reading her Bible, doing puzzles and watching “The Price is Right”.

She is survived by four sons and their wives, William and Mary Sue Lee; J. L. and Jane Lee, Ricky and Donna Lee and Sammy and Pam Lee all of Manila; five daughters and their husbands, Mae Helen and Charles Shrable of Linden, Michigan, Glenda and Larry Richmond of Keiser, Betty and James Eubanks of Manila, Rose Eldridge of Manila and Kathi and Lonnie Turney of Batesville; two sisters, Louise Mitchell of Vancouver, Washington and Lorene Parks of Manila; two sisters-in-law, Georgia Lee and Thelma Sue Lee both of Manila; one brother-in-law, Lonnie Lee of Manila; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Thirlow Lee and a brother, Clifford Patton.

A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, December 30th, 2:00 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Rev. Burl Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow at Manila Cemetery.

Mildred H. Edwards, 92, of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Elizabeth’s Place, Jonesboro.

Mrs. Edwards was born November 13, 1918, in Gurdon, Arkansas. She formerly was a defense industrial worker for Lockheed Aerospace and a beautician. She was a member of the Eastern Star and of the Morningside Baptist Church, Yuma, Arizona.

Survivors include four nieces, Suzanne Sloan and Debbie Francis, both of Trumann, Barbara Hamilton and Shannon Hannon, both of Jonesboro; three nephews, Kevin Hazelwood and Barry Hazelwood, both of Trumann, and Gregory Richmond of Dowagiac, Michigan. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Virginia Swafford of Paragould.

Eddie Brewer
 


Eddie Brewer, 56 of Paragould passed away Tuesday December 28, 2010 at his residence. Eddie was born June 25, 1954. He was a disabled Steel Worker and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Eva Yancey Brewer.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Brewer of the home; sons, Bobby and Billy Brewer of Belleville, MI; step-sons, Mike Trowbridge and Mark Mason of Paragould; brother, Tony Brewer of Paragould. Several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday December 31st, 12:00 until 1:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Rudy Ring officiating.
Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Carl Edgar Reeves
 

Carl Edgar Reeves, 78, of Bryant, AR passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010. He was born September 14, 1932 at Light, AR to Kid and Violet Reeves. Carl loved fishing, hunting and baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ricky Reeves.

Survivors include three sons, Randy, Robin, and Ronnie Reeves all of Paragould; one daughter, Andrea (Mark) Smith of Fort Smith; two stepsons, Allen Brinsfield of Newport and Jeffery Brinsfield of Little Rock; two sisters, Ernestine Lederman of Auburn, KY., Joyce Prater of Pocahontas, AR.; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 30th, 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home prior to service.

Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Marion Gramling officiating.

Burial will follow at Lawrence Memorial Cemetery in Walnut Ridge.

Dearl Eugene Jones


Dearl Eugene Jones, 79, of Walnut Ridge, passed away December 28, 2010, at his home.

Born September 28, 1931, at Ponder Switch, he was the son of Fred and Willie Shelton Jones. He had lived in Lawrence County for most of his life and was a self-employed roofer. He attended the Faith Tabernacle Church in Hoxie.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nora Pauline Jones; a son, Dearl Eugene Jones Jr.; and a brother, Luther Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Jones; three daughters, Pat Augustine and husband Wayne, Walnut Ridge, Lisa Morris and husband Gary, Ravenden, and Pam Freer and husband Wayne, Paragould; a son, Fred Jones and wife Debbie, Jonesboro; two sisters, Betty Bateman, Paragould, and Karen Smith Summers, Memphis; a brother, Earl Jones, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 31st, 10:00 a.m. at the Faith Tabernacle in Hoxie with Ted Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Lorado Cemetery, near Walcott, under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Thursday evening, 5:30 until 8:00 in the House-Gregg Chapel, Walnut Ridge.

Willard Aline “Mutt” Jackson, 86, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010.

Born July 5, 1924, in Marmaduke, Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Lowe of Paragould; one stepdaughter, Loretta Mitchell of Viola; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

Betty Fay Hollis
 


Betty Fay Hollis, 75, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

Born October 28, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Hollis had worked at Ely Walker Shirt Factory and Sunlite. She attended Fairview Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John B. “Jack” Hollis of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Sharon Hollis; and one daughter, Terry Hill, all of Paragould. Survivors also include one brother, Bruner Bean of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mamie Bean; and a son-in-law, Jim Hill.

Visitation will be Saturday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Funeral services will be Sunday, January 2nd, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.

Edward Domengez Ortiz
 


Edward Domengez Ortiz, 47, of Paragould, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.

He was born April 9, 1963 to Antonia and Elida Carrasco. He was employed by Martin Sprocket and Gear in Paragould. Edward loved taking care of his family, Cooking drawing and going to church. He was a member of The House of Refuge.

Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Ortiz of the home; two sons, Larry Edward Otriz and Jacob Lynn Ortiz both of Paragould; one brother, Wally Carrasco and one sister, Becky Carrasco.

He is preceded in death his father Antonio Carrasco and mother Elida Carrasco.

Visitation will be Friday, December 31st, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 pm at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Friday in the Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Gandy officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

James "Junior" Jernigan
 


James Gipson “Junior” Jernigan, 85, of Paragould passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Jernigan was born June 17, 1925, in the Alexander Community, Greene County and served with the Navy Seabees during World War II. Junior was a man who loved God, his family and friends. He pastured for 40 years in Greene, Randolph and Craighead Counties, and was also a carpenter. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jim and Minnie; his stepfather, Walter Rogers; stepsister, Mayme Clark; one great grandchild, Jordon Nicole Jernigan; three brothers, Murrell, Berryman, and David; and seven sisters, Emma, Flora, Ola, Vestal, Lida, Mildred, and Imodell.

Junior is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Jernigan; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Joe Lucius of Fayetteville, Arkansas; five sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Jimmie Nell Jernigan and Jerry and Dana Jernigan of Paragould, Jim and Darlene Jernigan of Russellville, Arkansas, Barry and Liz Jernigan of Mobile, Alabama, and David and Carolyn Jernigan of Alma, Arkansas. Survivors also include one stepbrother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Doris Rogers of Noblesville, Indiana; 26 grandchildren; and 42 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many precious nieces and nephews whom he loved and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 3rd, 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Jason Noel and Bob Ivy officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.

Curtis Eugene Gray, 74, Paragould, passed away Thursday December 30, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 31, 1936 in Evening Star, AR the son of the late Clarence William and Frances Matthew Gray. He was also preceded in death by an infant son and infant daughter, brothers, Elzworth, Athern "Red" and Bill Gray, sister, Ellen Gray. He was a factory worker at Darling and also a farmer.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Gray, of the home; son and daughter in law: Terry Eugene and Debby Gray of Paragould; brothers: Chester Gray of Beech Grove, Homer Gray of Paragould, Bobby Gray of Gainesville; sister: Thalia Lee of Paragould; grandsons: Andrew, Tanner and Cameron Gray.

The family will receive friends Friday evening 5:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of his life will be Saturday, January 1st, 1:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Phil Wilkerson and Darrell Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Donald Ownbey
 


Mr. Donald Ownbey, 66, of Paragould, AR., passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at home. Mr. Ownbey was born September 27, 1944. He was a retired electrician for Champion Boats, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

He married his wife Carolyn (Denning) Ownbey on December 25, 1965, she survives. Other suvivors include one daughter Jennie Kay Anderson of Mountain Home, AR.; mother Chlo (Mizel) Kennedy of Mountain Home, AR.; one brother Scott Ownbey of Lancaster, CA.; one sister Jocelyn Elbs of Mesa, AZ.; two grandchildren Jay and Aubyn.

He was preceded in death by father Donald Pearpoint Ownbey; and one brother Bobby Bruce Ownbey.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 3rd, in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Sally Shepard and Ruben Rodriquez officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery.

Gerald Day
 


Gerald "G-Bo" Day, 87, of Paragould, AR, entered into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, December 31, 2010, in Paragould, AR. Born January 17, 1923, in Paragould, to Harry and Goldie Hopkins Day, Gerald was one of seven children. Gerald attended Paragould High School. After graduation in 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably for 3 years in the WWII Pacific Theater. Gerald moved around the country with his career, living in the St. Louis area and Independence, Missouri, Sydney, Nebraska, and Denver, Colorado, eventually retiring from Cloth World in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He and his wife, Virginia, owned a cabin in the mountains of Colorado, where visitors were greeted by a sign hanging on a post that read, "The Happy Days." Shortly after Virginia's death in 1992, Gerald returned to his beloved Paragould in 1993. Gerald was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Paragould.

Gerald is survived by daughter, Julie Gereau of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Steven Gereau, Michael Gereau, Donna Gereau Argent of St. Louis, Carolyn Gereau of San Diego; six great-grand children; and three great-great-grand children. Gerald is survived locally by nephew Gary (Sandy) Kingston, and is a great uncle, brother-in-law, and dear friend to many, including Mary Yearian, who showed great love and care to Gerald.

Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia Richie Day, his sisters Helen Day Orlean, Taby Day Hyde, Ruth Day Round, and Sue Day Wilmot, and his brothers Herman (Buck) Day and Bill Day.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 8th, 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Joe Marsden officiating. Visitation will be Saturday morning 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Afton Brennan
 


Afton Brennan, 83, of Lake St. Louis, MO., passed from this life Friday, December 31, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital.

She was born January 12, 1927, at Paragould and was preceded in death by her parents, Neal and Neva Eubanks.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Guy T. Brennan; and sisters, Helen Funk and Elizabeth Acuff.

Afton graduated from Arkansas State University, did graduate work at the University of Missouri at Columbia and taught school for 32 years.
