Helen Yvonne Hollis


Helen Yvonne Reynolds Hollis, 86 of Paragould, died Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, she was born on November 21, 1920 in Paragould. Mrs. Hollis was a homemaker and was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include: four sons: Donald Hollis, Joe Hollis, Randy Hollis and his wife Pauletta all of Paragould and Ronald Hollis of Stuart, Florida, one daughter Lollie Vickers and her husband Ray of Paragould, fourteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hollis was preceded in death by: her husband: Howard Hollis who died on November 20, 1974, her parents D.O. and Helen Reynolds and one brother: John Reynolds.
Private services will be conducted at a later date. There will be no visitation. Mitchell Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Memorial may be made to the Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Imogene Kelly


Imogene Kelly, 79, of Paragould, died December 1, 2006 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born September 16, 1927 at Cord, Arkansas, she was a retired waitress and was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil and Freida Kelly of Paragould, and Scott and Shawn Kelly of Jonesboro; two daughters, Cathy Gardner of Nashville, Tennessee and Cindy and son-in-law Keith Hayes of Lake City, Arkansas; a special friend, Harold Howard; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lizzie Shoultz, one brother, Bill Shoultz, two sisters, Willene Wooldridge and Alyene Janes, one daughter, Jeania Mae Kelly and one granddaughter, Julie Kelly Jones.
Graveside funeral services will be Tuesday, December 5, 1:30 P. M., at New Friendship Cemetery with Revs. Junior Vester and Dennis Davis officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, 11:00 A. M. until 1:00 P. M. at the Mitchell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Janes, Jerry Don Janes, Keith Hayes, Brandon Kelly, Gene Thompson, Shane Chaffin, and Charles Chaffin.

Juanita Swain



Juanita Smith Swain, 86, of Blytheville died Friday, December 1, 2006, in Osceola Health Care at Osceola.

She was born August 10, 1920 in Paragould and lived in Missouri for many years before moving to Jonesboro in 1966 and to Blytheville in 2000. She was a homemaker and also was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include three sons, Carl R. Swain of Blytheville, Dale Swain and Michael Swain of Broseley, Mo.; one daughter, Carleen Fay Dougherty of Broseley; two brothers, William Smith of Indiana and Jim Smith of Jackson, Mo.; four sisters, Wanda Mabry of Granite City, Ill., Dorothy Stokes of Collinsville, Ill., Betty Harbison of Hoxie and Sue Singleton of Collinsville, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Frank and Gladys Smith; one brother, Raymond Smith and one sister, Alphia Borah.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Everett Hart Officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Thelma Helen Wilkerson



Thelma Helen (French) Wilkerson, 86, of Paragould died Saturday, December, 2, 2006, at her home in Paragould.

She was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Mammoth Springs, the daughter of the late Harry and Viola Messer French.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Harold Wilkerson, who died in 2005; her sisters, Dorothy Brown, Myrtle Tolley, Lorene Miller and Elsie Morgan; and her brothers, Cecil Stanfill, Homer French and Ralph French.

She was of Baptist belief and a housecleaner.

She is survived by her son, Marion Wilkerson; grandson, Randall Wilkerson; and her sister, Hazel Huffine, all of Paragould.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Heath Colonial Chapel with burial following in Brown's Chapel Cemetery.

Robert Ebert



Robert Ebert, 47, of Paragould died Saturday, December 2, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Hospital at Paragould.

Born October 2, 1959, Robert grew up in O'Kean and attended Deleplaine High School. He was an auto mechanic.

Survivors include one daughter, Rachel Stevens of Searcy; two brothers, Russell West of Hoxie and Colin Rogers of Searcy; two sisters, Angelia Ward of Paragould and Kathi Spears of Texas.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Real Hope Ministries, 717 Pruett St, Paragould, with Floyd Bailey officiating. There will be no visitation.

Pauline Holland



Pauline Holland, 92, of Springfield, Illinois,  passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in Memorial Medical Center.

She was born in Goobertown on Nov. 13, 1914, the daughter of William T. and Lizzie B. Herrod Gatlin Sr.

Mrs. Holland worked for the Illinois Department of Revenue as a property tax examiner, retiring after 25 years in 1985. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge, and was a member of the Methodist Church of Peoria, Ill.

She was very active in the Democratic Party, having served as a committeeman and an Illinois delegate to the 1964 national convention.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Gieseke of Petersburg, Ill. and Lucie Caron of Springfield; a son, Bobby Peacher of Palm Bay, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Eloise Kominski of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Ken Kominski and Ed Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Rosetta M. Finley


Rosetta M. Finley, 78, of Paragould, died Sunday, December, 3, 2006, at NEA Medical Center.

Born May 8, 1928, at Lafe, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Billie R. Finley Sr. of Paragould; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy R. Jr. and Laura Finley of Memphis; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Helen Tarro of Flint, Mich., Yvonna M. and Joseph Lunkas, and Rosemary and Chuck Evans, all of Fenton, Mich. She is also survived by four brothers, Eldon Jackson of St. Louis, Tony Jackson of Granite City, Ill., Albert Jackson of Las Vegas and Ronald Jackson of Florissant, Mo.; three sisters, Carolyn Seigrist of Highland Park, Ill., Donna Seibert of St. Charles, Mo., and Joanne Hansen of St. Lawrence, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elma Mae Jackson; three brothers, George Richard, Harold and Harvey Jackson; and one sister, Jewell Ferguson.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Aba-nathy officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery.

Richard Grant, Kyle Evans, Tony Tarro, Chuck Evans, Joe Lunkas, and Richard Martin will serve as pallbearers.

Jeanne Lee Mitchell


Jeanne Lee Mitchell , 81, of Paragould died Sunday, December, 3, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born Jan. 23, 1925, in Paragould, she was a retired cafeteria employee of Thomas Stone High School, Waldorf, Md. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of First Baptist Church, Paragould, where she was also a member of Women's Missionary Union.

Survivors include her husband, L.V. Mitchell, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Fay Mitchell of Paragould and Wesley and Janet Mitchell of Flower Mound, Texas; and three grandchildren, Tamara, Amanda, and Krista Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Naomi Schilling; and by one grandson, Jesse Mitchell.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Joe Marsden officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Mike Mitchell, Joey Mitchell, Greg Mitchell, Tim Rollings, Josh Agee, George Spence, Kendal Smith and Tyler Rollings will serve as pallbearers.

Leah Jane Sherrod Neel


Leah Jane Sherrod Neel, daughter of James and Sandra Ham Sherrod, was born Oct. 29, 1971, in Kennett, Mo., and passed away at her residence in Paragould December, 3, 2006, at the age of 35. She married Tommy Neel Feb. 20, 2003, in Paragould.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by a son, Jon Clark Harris of Senath, Mo.; a daughter, Holly Ann Harris of Senath; a step-son, Brandon Thomas Neel of Paragould; a step-daughter, Pamela Nichole Neel of Paragould; a sister, Laura Craig of Senath; her grandparents, Bill and Jane White of Kennett; a niece, Anna Lea Craig; and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mack and Maude Sherrod and Mack Ham.

Funeral services will be were, December, 6, at 11 a.m., at the McDaniel Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Kevin Sullivan officiating.

Pallbearers were Mike Woodson, John David Raines, Joe Bob Sherrod, Jerry Willis, Jim White and James Sherrod. Honorary pallbearer is Alice Raines.

McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath is in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Inez Thomas



Ollie Inez Thomas, 51, of Paragould died Monday, December 4, 2006 at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by parents, Bill and Rellie Bridges Farmer.

Survivors include sons, Woody and Billy Laxton; daughter, Dorinda Warren; brothers, Ricky, Dennis and Loyd Farmer; sisters, Dorothy Braden, Brenda Lamar and Kay Farmer; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home and will later meet at Hartsoe Cemetery for graveside services at 1:30 pm. with the Rev. Kim Bridges officiating.

John Milton Smith


John Milton Smith, 81, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, December, 5, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. A World War II veteran in the United States Army, Mr. Smith received several medals and honors, including the Bronze Star.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Smith, of the home; five children, Debbie Thompson and Paul Smith, both of Paragould, Rebecca Pope of Eureka Springs, Pam Fouts of Hornersville, Mo., and Robin Johnson of Bartlett, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould. Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Shiloh Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the National Alzheimer's Association or to Children's Homes Inc., in Paragould.

John L. Franklin Patten




John L. Franklin Patten, 74, of Paragould, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
A Navy veteran, Mr. Patten was born July 14, 1932, in Rector. He was a retired employee of Paragould City Light and Water and a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Robin Patten of Paragould; two brothers, Robert Patten of North Fort Myers, Florida, Jim Patten of Carrollton, Georgia; one granddaughter, Emily Patten; and one great grandson, Davin Jones both of Paragould.
Mr. Patten was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Patten; his parents, Sam and Emma Patten; two grandchildren, Jeremi and Katherine Patten; and by one sister, Margie Sammons.
Funeral service will be Friday, 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 12:30 P.M. until service time.
Pallbearers will include Bill McCartney, Brett Bradford, Tim Eason, Frank Curtis, Butch Johnson and Phil Cable.

Glenda Sue Doughty




Glenda Sue Doughty, 66, of Paragould, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Ash Flat. Born March 13, 1940, in Paragould, she was a homemaker and a member of the Newton Street Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Doughty of the home; one brother, Charles Harvill of Paragould; two sisters, Mary Jo Liles of Light, and her twin, Linda Watkins of Paragould; and by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Doughty was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mildred Harvill.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M., Friday, December 8th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with L. R. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Joyce Sims


Joyce Sims, 60, of Bay, Ark., died Tuesday, December, 5, 2006, at St. Bernard's Medical Center. She was born February 4, 1946 ,in Bay and had lived most of her life in the Bay area. She was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sims; her parents, Cecil and Oda Ashlock; and two brothers, Ernest Ashlock and Jerry Ashlock.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Sandy Sims of McAllen, Texas; two daughters Tammy Oost of Paragould and Pennie Thompson of Central Alabama. Also surviving are four sisters, Betty Rogers, Peggy Vincent, and Janette Richie all of Bay, Shirley Glover of Jonesboro; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Friday, December, 8, 2006, at Woods Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Bill Passmore officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sandra Kay Moon


Sandra Kay Moon, 59, of Somerset, Pa., sister of Wanda Hamm of Rector, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
Born April 28, 1947, in Light, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Ivan Addison and Wanda Lee (Kemp) Lenderman.
Other survivors include her husband, James Thomas Moon Sr., to whom she was married 30 years; her children, James T. Moon Jr. and his wife Kathy of Berlin, Pa., Mrs. David (Janet) Kascur, David L. Moon and his wife Stacy, and Benjamin Moon and friend Kelly Bottorff, all of Somerset, Jennifer Moon and friend Michael Pellegrini of Boise, Idaho; brother-in-law, Carroll Hamm of Rector; another sister, Iva Taylor and her husband Bobby of Dardanelle, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A graduate of Harding University at Searcy, she was a member of Somerset Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school. She worked until her retirement in 2000 as a case worker for the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. She enjoyed traveling and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home in Somerset with Ronald Longwell officiating. Interment was in Bakersville Cemetery.

Phillis Kaye Shewmaker


Phillis Kaye Shewmaker, 57, of Springdale, died December 5, 2006.
Born Dec. 28, 1948, in Lafe, she attended schools in Lafe, Hoxie and Viola and graduated from Searcy High School in 1966. She received a BFA degree from Arkansas State University in 1971 and pursued degrees in geology and mathematics.
She had lived and worked in California, Texas, Colorado and Mississippi before moving to Springdale in 1998, where she worked as a database administrator. Her previous careers included research assistant, medical illustrator, photographer, geologic technician and software engineering.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Mosbey Shewmaker.
Survivors include her father, Phillip R. Shewmaker III; a sister, LaJuana Joan Shewmaker; and a brother, Phillip R. Shewmaker Jr.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., Dec. 28, at First United Methodist Church in Searcy.

George Sparks England



George Sparks England, 74, of Paragould, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in the VA Medical Center at Memphis. He was born March 23, 1932 at Arbyrd, Mo., to the late Almos and Pearl (Sparks) England. His brother, Jim England, and sister, Betty Skelton, also preceded him in death.

George served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a self-employed businessman and a member of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

Surviving are his loving wife, Violet (Gazaway) England; daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Dennis Reed, and Paula and Ronnie Ford of Jonesboro; son, David England of Paragould; sister, Amelia Richardson of St. Louis; brother, Sammy England of Lincoln, Neb.; and granddaughters, Candice Moore of Jonesboro and Mica England of Paragould.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December, 8 in the Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ with Larry McFadden officiating.

Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. in Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

Pallbearers are Frank Reddick, Joe Vangilder, Greg Walker, David Summit, Wendell Eubanks, Joe Dickinson. Honorary pallbearers are Judge Gerald Brown, Noel Jetton, Charles Noel, Harold Hurt, Delaine Landrum and Kenneth Arnold.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Compassion Outreach.

Reba Geneva Gramling


Reba Geneva Gramling, 75, of Pocatello, Idaho, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at her home. She was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Paragould, to Henry and Goldie Orick Morrow. She attended school and graduated from Stanford High School.
She married Dallas R. Gramling Dec. 25, 1955, in Arkansas. They were married 51 years when he preceded her in death Jan. 9, 2006.
She was employed as a beautician for many years in O’Fallon, Mo., near St. Louis, and had lived in Pocatello since 1973. Mrs. Gramling loved her home, enjoyed yard work, and was an excellent homemaker. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Pocatello, and loved and enjoyed her extended church family. She had also been a member of the Order of Eastern Star for many years.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Bill (Reta) Gramling, of Marcella, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Eggers of Mountain View, and Linda (Bobby) Barton of Pontotoc, Miss.; a sister, Elgareda (Herman) Williams, of Beech Grove; three brothers, Harold (Jane) Morrow of Banner, Ill., and Joe (Eloise) Morrow of Newport.
Mrs. Gramling was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas; and her parents.
As per her request, cremation has been completed.
Memorial services took place December 12, at the Church of Christ in Pocatello. Pastor David Baeder officiated the ceremony.
Her remains will be buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Saturday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m.

Sylvia Montgomery Taylor


Sylvia Montgomery Taylor, 93, of Paragould, died Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Paragould Nursing Center.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Dunklin County, Missouri, December 25, 1912. She retired from General Motors, Flint, Michigan, and was a member of 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Athern Gray of Paragould; one grandson, Ronnie Kibler; four great grandchildren, Kevin Kibler, Brad Kibler, Sonya Huffmaster, and Shannon Morris; and by seven great great grandchildren, Tanisha, Shania, Kristyn, Jessica, Shelby, Scotty, and Shane.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Eddie Jane Hollis Montgomery; her husband, John Pinkney Taylor; two brothers, Lancie Montgomery, and Wiley Montgomery; three sisters, Ollie Barlow, Alice Pankey, and Nola Quinn; two stepmothers, Lillie Bailey Montgomery, and Nancy Cochran Montgomery; and by one grandson, Kenny Kibler.
Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
A celebration of life service will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 9th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Maurice Hurd officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Eula Fay Sappington Spears



Eula Fay Sappington Spears, 85 of Paragould, died Friday, December 8, 2006 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Mrs. Spears was born on July 28, 1921 in Senath, Missouri, she was a retired Internal Revenue Service clerk and a member of the Center Hill First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son Donald Edward Spears of Washington, D.C., one daughter: Brenda Spears Kennedy of Jonesboro, Arkansas, one sister: Sadie Galyean of Hornersville, Missouri and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by: her husband: James Edward Spears and one son: James Darrel Spears.
A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Donald Spears officiating, burial will follow in Lulu Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Joseph Wayne Ward , 80, of Paragould, died Friday, December 8, 2006, at the Regional Medical Center, Memphis.
Mr. Ward was born November 2, 1926, he was a Navy veteran, and retired from the Arkansas Employment Security Division.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Ward of Paragould; one stepson, Tommy Galloway of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Amber Galloway; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Hallie Ward; and by one son, Jim Ward.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-9:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Michael Lee Raines


Michael Lee Raines, 31, son of Tommy Raines and the late Mary Ann Mayberry Raines, died Saturday, December, 9, 2006, at his residence in Paragould. Raines was born February 9, 1975, in Kennett, Mo.

Survivors include his father, Tommy Raines; wife, Barbara, of Sikeston, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law James Allen and Lynn Mayberry, of Paragould; step-brother, Tony Hays; and step-sister Kathy Edger. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Mary Lou Mayberry, and Cordie and Evelyn Raines.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 13 at 3 p.m. at the McDaniel Chapel in Senath with Rev. Dewayne Coleman officiating. Burial will be in the Lulu Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Joe Lawless, Mark Sawyer, Paul Tollison, Brad Adams, Brian Archer, Russ Waldrum and Ryan Waldrum.

June Ella Gibson


June Ella Gibson, 63 of Paragould, died Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Mrs. Gibson was born on October 3, 1943 in Highland Park Michigan, she was a part time worker in the Kroger deli department and of the Methodist Faith.
Survivors include her husband: James Gibson of the home, one daughter and son-in-law: Keina and Derek Jennings of Little Rock, Arkansas, one brother: Larry Dortch and one sister: Jo Ann Branch both of Paragould, two grandchildren: Stephanie and Alison Jennings.
Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by: her parents: Hobert and Etta Dortch, one son: James Clay Gibson III, brothers: Billy Dortch and her twin brother: Jerry Lee Dortch.
Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Philip Bynum officiating, burial will follow in the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Mae L. Steyer



Mae L. Steyer, 80, of Paragould was called home to life eternal on Sunday, December 10, 2006.

She was born on Nov. 28, 1926 at Merrill, Wis., the daughter of the late William D. and Martha Kirschner Schweigert. She was baptized on Oct. 14, 1932 and confirmed on March 29, 1942 in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Scott, Merrill, Wis., by the Rev. Walter T. Koch.

She was married to H. Walter Koelm on May 22, 1948, and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1960. On July 30, 1968 she was married to the Rev. Edward A. Steyer.

Mae worked in Chicago as a telephone operator at Illinois Bell Telephone Co., at Commerce Clearing House Inc. as a secretary, Manpower, United States Steel, Skelly's Restaurant in Beach, N. D., North Dakota Daily Press and as secretary for the Churches. She belonged to AAL, LWML and Ladies Aid. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church at Paragould.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Edward A. Steyer; her two sons, William M. Koelm of Hammond, Ind., and Robert H. and Kitty Koelm of Rochester, Ind.; two brothers, Harry and Doris Schweigert of Merrill, and William Schweigert of Cincinnati; nieces and nephews; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Callahan and Yvonne Jae-ger; and one son, John W. Koelm.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Heath Colonial Chapel at Paragould with the Revs. Jon Bischoff and Russell Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lafe.

Visitation will be in Heath Funeral Home, Paragould, from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be given Redeemer Lutheran Church at Paragould.

Charles Ashley Grooms, 59, of Delaplaine died Monday, December, 11, 2006 in his residence.

He was born March 10, 1947 at Beech Grove to the late Jesse and Lena Pigue Grooms.His brother, Bud Grooms, also preceded him in death.

Charles served his country during the Vietnam era and was a retired farmer.He was of Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Grooms of Delaplaine;daughters, Angie Guyton of O'Kean, Ashley Grooms of Pocahontas and Amy Rice of O'Kean;one stepdaughter, Dusty Flanery of Paragould; brothers, Jimmy Grooms of Straw-berry,Gwindol Grooms of Delaplaine and J. Lowell Gene Burns, 60, died Monday, December, 11, 2006 in Mountain Home.

He was born March 23, 1946 at Dyess, the son of the late William Loyd Sr. and Notra Hogan Burns. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elois Berry; and brothers, Troy Lee Burns, Aaron Philmore Burns, Kenneth Elroy Burns and Loyd Burns Jr. He was of Pentecostal belief.

He is survived by his son, Corey Burns of Memphis; daughters, Melissa Burns of Memphis and Pamela Palmore of Fayetteville, N. C.; stepdaughters, Julie Jaques and Barbie Wilson, and stepson, Gary Shankle, all of Paragould; brother, Ben Burns of Paragould; sisters, Inez Foster of Paragould, Melba Humphrey of Pontiac, Mich., Joetta Thrasher of Paragould, Charlotte Hendley of Paragould and Oliphay Smith of Mountain Home; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-9 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

His life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Hays officiating.

Donald Sisk



Donald Gene Sisk, 65, of Paragould died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at the St. Louis University Hospital. He was born Oct. 18, 1941, in Lake City, the son of the late Kinley and Ava Adams Sisk. His wife, Annetta Hill Sisk also preceded him in death. He was a Navy veteran and the owner and operator of Don's Barber Shop. He was of Baptist belief.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Michael Huckabee of Paragould; one grandson, Trace Huckabee and one sister and brother-in-law, Shirlene and Rey Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.

Funeral Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, at Greene County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Royce Boling officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home.

Maxine Batey Steinkamp

 

Mrs. Maxine Batey Steinkamp, born Nov. 17, 1926, in Greene County, died Dec. 12, 2006, in Tracy, Calif. She was the daughter of the late Rupert and Carey "Dump" Pillow Batey, and granddaughter of the late John W. and Charlcey Hyde Pillow of Greene County.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; and three brothers, Luther, Edward and Richard Batey.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolin; a son, Vernon; two sisters, Irene and Gloria; six half-brothers; her stepmother, Audrey; and many other relatives in Greene County.

Memorial services were held at Fry Memorial Chapel with burial in Tracy.

Joe Bob Rogers, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, in Paragould. He was born July 20, 1926, in Oran, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse & Velma Blansett Rogers; and a sister, Lugene Rogers.

Heulon Barron



Heulon Barron, 79, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Dec. 13, in his residence.

Born May 14, 1927, in Greene County, he lived in Northeast Arkansas most of his life. He was a farmer and veteran of the Army. He was of the Baptist belief.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Dewayne and Claudia Barron of Palm Coast, Fla.; three daughters and their husbands Linda B. and Mark Fury of Midland, Texas, Joyce and Hal Hall, and Carolyn and Raymond Crouse, all of Jonesboro; a sister, Mary Ruth Trumble of Havasu, Ariz.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Ruth Willcoxson Barron; three brothers; one sister; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Brown Chapel Cemetery. No visitation has been planned.

Arthur Henry Kanneman



Arthur Henry Kanneman, 62, of Paragould died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born March 28, 1944, in Crystal Lake Township, WI. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of President Kennedy's Honor Guard. Arthur was retired from the Greene County Road Department and was of Lutheran belief.

Linnie Marie Jackson




Linnie Marie Jackson, 95, of Paragould, died Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born November 15, 1911, in Gibson, Missouri, Mrs. Jackson retired as a dietary worker from Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, then worked for the Red Cross. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Debbie Jackson of Lexington, Tennessee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Zetta and Bobby White of Manila, and Deanna and Harold Clayton of Paragould. She is also survived by three brothers, Harold Caldwell and Clinton Caldwell, both of Flint, Michigan, Kenneth Caldwell of Gibson, Missouri; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and by one great great grandchild.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cora Caldwell; her husband, K. S. Jackson; one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 16th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould with Sam Leslie, Jackie Fulton, and Tommy Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Dunklin Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will begin Saturday at noon at the funeral home.

Ileen Quessie (Rowland) Clark, 75, formerly of Paragould, died Thursday, December 14, 2006, in Arlington, Tennessee.
A homemaker, Mrs. Clark was born December 26, 1930, in Paragould.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, George W. Clark of Grandy, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, Jamie Keith and Tiffany Clark of Arlington, Tennessee; and one brother, Frankie Ellis Rowland of Paragould. She is also survived by two grandsons, Stevie Ray and Taj Lorik Clark of Arlington; and by one uncle, Ones Rowland of Paragould.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Dessie Rowland; and two sisters, Jesteen and Devona Lou Rowland.

Emma Vowell, 75, of Lafe died December 14, 2006 in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

She was born August 7, 1931 to the late John and Rose Mae Wyatt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose Mae Wyatt; brothers, Dewey Wyatt and Cloyce Wyatt; and sister, Pauline Dorris.

Hubert L. Pyland



Hubert L. "Buck" Pyland, 94, of Alexander, formerly of Paragould, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born July 10, 1912, in Craighead County to the late William Henry and Eva Mae Starnes Pyland.

His daughter, Norma Jean Pyland, and two sons, Jim and Mike Pyland, also preceded him in death.

Hubert was retired from Emerson Electric Co. and as an auto mechanic. He was a member of Seventh and Mueller Church Of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lee Jernigan Pyland of North Little Rock; one son, Rick Pyland of Little Rock; one half-brother, Bill Pyland of Paragould; one brother-in-law, Quillon Jernigan of Little Rock; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Larry McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Clarks Chapel Cemetery.

Roger Ray Dodd


Roger Ray Dodd was born July 29, 1947 in Lafe to Eulias and Lorine Davidson Dodd. He died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006 in Royal Oak, MI. He was 59.
He was a long time employee of R.E. Nieman, a company that deals in sales f conveyor chain in the automotive industry in Dearborn, MI. Survivors include his brother, Bobby (Dena) Dodd, Corning; two nieces, Kerry Vanpelt, Manchester, TN and Logan Dodd, Poplar Bluff, MO.
He was preceded in death by hs parents;  special uncle and aunt, Orie and Mary Huitema..

Mary Alice Childress



Mary Alice Childress, 85, of Paragould, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in the Friendship Community, Jan. 26, 1921, to Elvis John and Mary Gertrude Morton Smith, Mary Alice was a cook, a sales clerk, a farmer, and a homemaker. She was known for her plentiful country cooking and taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Although she pretended to be modest, she loved to hear people praise her fried pies and chicken and dumplings. Although we tried, we could never duplicate the love that she put into those recipes.

She loved to watch the Cardinals but was so ill in the past few months that she could not savor their World Series triumph. Mary also liked raising flowers in her garden as well as reading. She loved her show, "All My Children," and watching CMT - Country Music Television. Singing was also another favorite pastime. She entertained her grandchildren with sing alongs from the Baptist hymnal while playing the piano to accompany them. She was a member of Alexander Baptist Church.

Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Remmel Earl (Wade) Childress; and daughter, Peggy Bishop.

She left behind two sons, Darrell Childress and his wife, Sherry of Paragould, Gary Childress of Humble, Texas; in addition to a daughter, Leigh Sullivan and her husband, Jerry of Paragould. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kristen Hicks and her husband Wayne of Paragould, Lisa Gaskill and her husband, Robert of Spring, Texas, Greg Childress of Houston, Texas, Jeremy Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, and Spenser Sullivan of Paragould, Carl Nelson and his wife, Sonja of Little Rock, and Charles Nelson and his wife, Whitney of Paragould; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Chloe Hicks, Cade and Sydney Nelson, Joshua and Hailey Nelson, and Kelbye Gaskill. She also leaves behind a brother, Bobby Smith and his wife, Pat as well as in-laws, Carroll and Cathy Childress of Paragould, and Pat Browning of Jonesboro; plus assorted nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.

She will be dearly missed, but she is rejoicing in heaven now along with the loved ones who passed before her.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 21, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Dover Lee Douglas



Dover Lee Douglas, 73, of Ravenden died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 3, 1933, in Lynn, the son of the late Virgil A. and Ollie Mae White Douglas. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2242 in Paragould.

He was also a sponsor and counselor with Alcoholics Anonymous.

He worked as a mechanic and farmer and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church at Halfmoon, AR.

Two brothers, a sister, grandson and great-grandson also preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Rosetta Melson Douglas of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Sherry Lynn and Kenneth Oden of Paragould, Pamela Kay Squires of Wheatland, Mo., and Patsy Sue Thompson of Ravenden; one son and daughter-in-law, Randal and Deb Voyles of Black Rock; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Steven Ray and Marie Arnold of Floral; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Revs. Pat Hovis, Boyce Cate and Tom Wellman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Walcott.

Araminta Heagler Hays



Araminta Heagler Hays, age 87, passed away on December 18, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Araminta was born September 22, 1919, in Paragould to W. R. Heagler, Sr. and Lillian M. Heagler. Being one of three children, she is survived by two brothers, Wirt R. Heagler, Jr. of Pine Bluff, and Robert M. Heagler of Jefferson City, Missouri.
Araminta Hays graduated from Paragould High School in 1937, attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College), Batesville, Arkansas, 1939-1941; Arkansas State College, Jonesboro and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1949, and a Masters Degree in 1954.
A retired educator for 38 years, Araminta began teaching at Alexander High School in 1943, where she taught for one year; Lakeside High School for 12 years, 1944 to 1956; and Paragould High School from 1956 to retirement in 1981.
Araminta was previously active in the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma, and the AMMC Auxiliary.
Araminta Hays was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paragould, where she was a member of several circles, a leader and teacher in Sunday school and served in various church positions over the years. Araminta had a great and active faith in God and enjoyed her long association and the many hours with the church family.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 21st, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time Thursday.

Jimmy Ray Getson



Jimmy Ray Getson, 70, of Paragould, died Monday, December 18, 2006 in John J. Pershing VA Medical Center at Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He was born Sept. 22, 1936 at O'Kean, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Opal Gray Getson.

He was employed by Delta Asphalt Co. as a trucker, was self-employed, and was a former employee of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. He was of Baptist belief.

Mr. Getson was a 15-year Air Force veteran serving his country in the Vietnam era and also served in Japan and Korea.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia June Getson of the home; daughter, Terrie Morton of Paragould; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Debbie Getson of Ozark Acres, and Keith and Renae Getson of Paragould; grandchildren, Wendy Coleman, Penny Deatherage, Misty Curtis, Dallas Getson, Brandi Getson, Matthew Getson, Mallory Getson and Kyle Morton; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Griffin of Oak Grove Heights, Doris Biggs of Petaluma, Calif., and Shirley Crabtree of Jonesboro; brothers, Tommy Getson of Pocahontas and Henry Lee Gates of Shafter, Calif.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

His life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday with the Revs. Ron Berry and L.R. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Hazel Virginia Stone



Hazel Virginia Stone, 90, of Paragould, died Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in Greene Acres Nursing Home at Paragould.

She was born Aug. 4, 1916, the daughter of the late Elbert Combs and the late Mary Dickerson Combs. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Haley Stone; granddaughter, Amy Stone; and three brothers, Raymond, Tas and Elbert Combs.

She was a housewife and member of First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Edgar Miller, Tammy Martin, all of Paragould, and Vatra and Jack Hibbs of Las Vegas; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Haley Stone Jr. and Kathy of Houston; sisters, Louise Randol and Katherine Howard, both of Paragould; six grandchildren, Sherri Miller, Rebecca Lanning, Sheila Cupp, Charles Haley Stone III, Robert Martin Jr., who is serving in Iraq, and Allison Martin; great-grandchildren, Austin Cupp, Raquel Martin, Colby Miller, Emma Stone, Madison Cupp and Declan Lanning.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-9 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. John Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

J.D. Arland Atchison



J.D. Arland Atchison, 85, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in St. Bernards Medical Center.

Born at Light on Sept. 26, 1921, he was a retired electrician for General Tire and Rubber Co., Penn Athletic Division, a former employee with Frolic Footwear Co and a self-employed electrician.

He was a member of Nettleton United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was in the Army Air Force during World War II, having served in England. J.D. enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bessie Chadwick Atchison; and one sister, Oma Ayars.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Atchison of the home; a daughter, Shirley Watkins of Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Marie Kathleen Chrisman and her husband Eric; two great-grandsons, Eric Maxwell Chrisman and Nicholas Dale Chrisman, all of Marion; one sister, Wanda Bulla of Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, in Gregg Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harmon Whitehurst officiating. Entombment will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Kevin Chadwick, Wayne Chadwick, Brian Tyler, Ernest Tyler, Matt Houston and Steve Welch.

H. L. "Doodle" Bellomy



H. L. "Doodle" Bellomy, 71, of Paragould died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He was born June 24, 1935 in Greene County, the son of the late Herbert and Minnie L. (Tucker) Bellomy.

His sister, Verna Cross, and brothers, L.A. and Harold Bellomy, also precede him in death.

"Doodle" was retired from the Paragould Light Water and Cable Company and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are the mother of his children, Bonnie Ray of Paragould; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ron and Robin Bellomy and Kenny Bellomy, all of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law, Michele and John Dulaney of Paragould; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will meet graveside for services at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, in Greene County Memorial Gardens with the Revs. Bruce Stone and Ray Bishop officiating.

Betty Louise Mabry, 69, of Paragould died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006.

Born Jan. 23, 1937 at Lester, she was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Lake View Methodist Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Othal "Dub" and Flossie Ryan; and by one sister, Sue Ryan McCamey.

She is survived by her husband of 51-plus years, Ted Mabry; her daughter, Teddi Anderson; and two granddaughters, Megan Crabtree and Arin Anderson, all of Paragould. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Larry Ryan of Paragould, Lonnie Ryan of California, Joan Johnson of Lonsdale and Debbie Swain of Paragould.

Dortha Genevee Fleming, 84 of Paragould, died December 23, 2006 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born May 11, 1922 in Batesville, Arkansas, she was a retired domestic housekeeper and a member of West View Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis “Pete” Fleming of the home; two sons, James Curtis Fleming and his wife Esther of Flint, Michigan, and Larry Charles Fleming of Golden City, Arizona; one daughter, Margaret Ann Taylor and her husband Jake of Lapeer, Michigan; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Marie Hill Akins, and by four brothers and one sister.

Naomi Fay Hutsell



Naomi Fay Hutsell, 75 of Paragould, died Saturday December 23, 2006 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born on November 29, 1931 in Calhun City, Mississippi and lived in Paragould for the past 46 years. Mrs. Hutsell was a retired Auditor at Monroe Auto and a member of the Vines Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three sisters: Louise Walton of Paragould, Edna Sartin of Jackson, Mississippi and Ann Church of Ossian, Indiana, fifteen nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

 
Mrs. Hutsell was preceded in death by her father: Ferman Johnson, her mother: Annie Laura Chambers Johnson, two brothers: Carl Theodore Johnson and Ferman Audrey “Buck” Johnson.


Graveside service will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Linwood Cemetery with Bob Lee officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Ronnie Rowland, 60, died Saturday, December 23, 2006 in St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He lived at Black Rock moving from Paragould. He was a self-employed truck driver and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Mullin Rowland of the home; his parents, Onis and Minnie Rowland of Paragould; sons, Darren Rowland, Sean Rowland and Greg Rowland, all of Missouri; a stepson, Jeremy Beary of Powhatan; a stepdaughter, Jenny Dollins of Datto; a brother, Donnie Rowland of Beech Grove; sisters, Kathy Forsythe of Nevada, Joan Jones and June Shultz of Walnut Ridge; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in New Life Full Gospel Church at Black Rock with Wayne Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Paragould.

Reverend Joe David Stone


The home going of Joe David Stone, 66, of Paragould, was Saturday, December 23, 2006. Born on February 24, 1940, in Pocahontas, he was a Spirit-filled Pastor/Missionary/Evangelist, the founder of Freedom in Christ Ministries, and Pastor of Hope Full Gospel Church. He was committed to ministering the uncompromised Word of God in its fullest to all people. He dedicated himself to seeing people saved, healed, filled with the Holy Spirit, and set free to live the victorious, overcoming life in Christ.
He gave his heart to our Lord Jesus Christ on May 15, 1955, and accepted the call into the ministry. He has faithfully served God as a full-time minister since April, 1968.
Rev. Stone was founder and director of Freedom in Christ Ministries, which helped meet the needs of hurting people. He ministered in local churches, evangelistic outreach meetings, prayer groups, Bible fellowships, ethnic churches and groups, inner city locations, and in other countries such as England, Mexico and Jamaica. He taught pastoral theology in an Assembly of God school of ministry in Florida.
David began his ministry in the field of Christian Education at Bethel Temple in St. Louis, Missouri, and later served as the Associate Pastor of the church. He has served pastorates in Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee; he has served in missions/evangelism, and has been involved in radio and TV ministry. He has served as a board member of a Teen Challenge Center. Most recently, he also served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Full Gospel Churches International.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Cheryl, of Paragould; four daughters, Robin (Mark) Withers of Springfield, MO; Sherry Stone of O’Fallon, MO; Kelley Jones of Springfield, MO; and Sarah Stone of Paragould; his mother, Mary Veona Stone of Paragould; two sisters, Ella Mae (Wayne) Wilkins of Paragould, Virginia Vincent of Crystal City, MO; one brother, Jerry (Brenda) Stone of Lafe; two granddaughters, Tara (Matthew) and Brooke; three grandsons, Tyler (Lynn), Tony and Blake; and precious aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Keith, father Ceral Stone, brother-in-law Sunny Vincent, and nephew Andrew Mitchell.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26 from 6-9 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould. The Home Going Celebration will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Marian Michaliszyn and Rev. Wayne Wilson officiating, Minister of Music Hannah Czoski, and Ann Ballard. Pallbearers will be Dale Mitchell, David Wilkins, Brett Vincent, Tyler Trivitt, Tony Withers and Blake Jones.

Herschel James Smith, 84, of Paragould, died Sunday, December 24, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith was born February 18, 1922, in Paragould, He retired from the Arkansas Employment Security Division in Jonesboro and was a member of Pruett’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Lee Smith of the home; one daughter, Joy Lynn Lamb of Gales Ferry, Connecticut; one brother, Wilburn Smith of Paragould; and by one grandchild.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; and by one brother, Olen Smith.

She is also survived by one sister, Louise Tucker of Newark, California; ten great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. Robert Junior Bailey

Robert Junior Bailey, 77, of Paragould, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Bailey was born August 4, 1929, in Lake City, to Walter and Beatrice Metlock Bailey. He was a retired gravel truck driver for the Arkansas Highway Department.

Survivors include one son, Douglas Bailey; and one brother, John Bailey, both of Paragould. He is also survived by four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was born April 9, 1937 at Marmaduke, the son of J.H. Cooper and the late Jaunita Shatley Cooper. He was employed with Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and was of Baptist belief.

Peggy Jean Lawrence

Peggy Jean Lawrence, 71, of Paragould, died Thursday, December 28, 2006, at her residence.

Born May 13, 1935, in Clay County, Mrs. Lawrence retired after teaching school for over thirty years. She was a member of Wood’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Marie Galyean of Gravette, Arkansas, Charis Renee Langston of Jonesboro, and Paula Jaye Adkins of Paragould; two sisters, Thelma Rapert of Peach Orchard, and Audrae Cameron of Walnut Ridge. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Tatton Galyean, Chase Galyean, Sarah Galyean, Jeremy Witcher, Meagan Witcher, B. J. Witcher, Zac Adkins, Amanda Adkins, Carey Adkins, and Katy Adkins; and by two great grandchildren, Caleb Montgomery, and Chayce Graves.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J. D. Lawrence; her parents, B.B. and Nellie Arnold; and by three brothers.

Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00-9:00, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

G. W. Durham

 

G. W. Durham, 78, of Jonesboro, formerly of Paragould, died Friday, December 29, 2006, at his residence. Born July 10, 1928, in Strawberry, Mr. Durham was a retired cabinetmaker, and a member of Southwest Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Durham of Jonesboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Bill and Vicky Ray of Blytheville; three brothers, Edward Durham of Saffell, Arkansas, Noel Durham of Smithville, and Billy Dean Durham of Strawberry. He is also survived by two sisters, Alligene Vandiver and Verdell Deal, both of Arnold, Missouri; two grandchildren, Heath Ray of New York, New York, Casey and Keeli Ray of Blytheville; and by one great grandchild, Kensie Ray of Blytheville.

He was preceded in death by parents and one sister, Ona Bell.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 31st, at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Herbert Starr officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 2:45 p.m., Sunday.

Eddie Durham, Ronnie Vandiver, Michael Church, Tal Durham, Rick Wineland, Chuck Mossman, Mitch Bell, and Perry Bell will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be J. D. Dowdy, J. W. Yates, Winfred Parker, Carroll Childress, and Barry Reddick.

Richard Leonard Farmer

 

Richard Leonard Farmer, 76, of Rector died Friday, Dec. 29, 2007, in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Missouri, the son of the late Willie R. and Ruthie Jane (Seets) Farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Farmer; two brothers, Bill and Frank Farmer, and one grandson, Braxton Stokes.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Robert Stokes of Rector; four grandchildren, Cheyenne, Robert Jr., Schylar and Richard; three brothers, Charles Farmer of Marmaduke, Donald Farmer of Viola, and John Farmer of Salem; two sisters, Mildred Giddings of Bloomington, Ill., and Margie Parton of Salem, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 3) in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel at Piggott with Shelly Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Stokes, Jerry Stokes, Jerry Midkiff, Bobby Parkus, Roger Forbes and Jimmy Eaton. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson Robert Stokes Jr. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Andy S. Greene

 

Andy S. Greene, 62, of Wildwood, Mo., formerly of Paragould, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.

He retired from General Motors in 2001 and enjoyed biking and running in races with his daughter. He was a member of the West County Swing Dance Club and enjoyed Imperial dancing.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul and Maudie Greene of Paragould.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Elliott Greene; one daughter and son-in-law, Andria and Bill Moran; two grandchildren, Julia and Drew Moran; one brother, Thomas Greene of Nashville, and an aunt, Mary L. Vangilder of Rector.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin, Mo.,with interment at Mr. Hope Mausoleum.

The family requests that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society.

McCord, Thomas Leroy

 

Major Thomas Leroy McCord, 74, of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away on December 31, 2006. He was born May 9, 1932 in Paragould, Arkansas to William and Eula McCord. He moved to Arizona 39 years ago from San Antonio, Texas. He is a retired pilot from the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Caribou Assn.

He is survived by his wife Lois M. McCord; son Richard McCord; daughters Tammy Sherrill (Rick) and Lorri (Dennis) Hintz; sisters Betty Vander Ark, Alice F. Nichols and Ann Locke; brothers William R. (Rose) McCord and Jerry A. McCord; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4th from 5 to 8:00 pm at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St. Funeral service will be on Friday, January 5th at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior at Parkway Community Church of God, 1751 E. Maryland Ave. Arrangements by Hansen Mortuary.
