He was a member of the Wildlife Club, and was actively involved in getting the ramp poured at the Big Slough Ditch.

James had a farm and received great joy from the beauty of a field, as well as the pleasure of having a heritage from his ancestors to pass down for generations to come. He had a huge garden for many years and thoroughly enjoyed sharing the bounty. By making wise business decisions and living a humble lifestyle, James was a blessed entrepreneur who was able to realize his dream of achieving true financial independence. He was known for giving generous gifts and helping others any way he could. He was a very trusting, loyal friend, sitting up many nights with a sick friend or providing food for comfort. A huge heart full of love and happiness, James loved a practical joke. He lived his last years at Monette Manor.
