Tommy Smith, age 71, of Lansing, MI., died August 1, 2008.
He was born March 26, 1937, in Light to Lottie and Hester Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; children, Debbie Torok and husband
Don, and Scott Smith; grandchildren, Jamie and Dustin Torok; and sisters,
Wanda Slatton and husband Roy, Geneva Rowe, Viola Jones and husband Earl,
Ila Robertson and Mona Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sonny, Paul and Gerald
Smith; and sisters, Zelma Newsom, Blanche Songer and Nova Jones.
Funeral services were in Michigan.
Alma Esther White
Alma Esther White, 90, of Paragould passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at
Senath Nursing Home.
She was born August 12, 1917, to the late James and Nancy Beaton Stephens in
Lafe. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Willford White;
brothers, Vernon Stephens and James “Ras” Stephens; sisters, Arlene Reagan,
Wanda Hardin and Iva Jamison; and son-in-law, Carl Wheeler.
Mrs. White was a member of Ramer’s Chapel Methodist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Johnny Carter of
Paragould, Melba Wheeler of St. Peters, Mo., and Christene and Waymon Holt
of Milligan Ridge; six grandchildren, Shane Carter of Paragould, Ronald Holt
of Caraway, Donald Holt of Lake City, Carla Rabon of O’Fallon, Mo., Crista
Wheeler of St. Peters and Rick Wheeler of O’Fallon; nine
great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Loretta and Charles “Buddy” Smith of Paragould, Velma and
Gerald Smith of Marmaduke and Catherine Gerdes of Jonesboro; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Thelbert and Vi Stephens and Eugene and Peggy Stephens, all
of Paragould; and special sister-in-law, Lorene Stephens of Lafe.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday in Heath Funeral Home.
Her life will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Heath Colonial Chapel
with the Rev. Waymon Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Providence
Cemetery.

Leoma “Tootsie” Crawford, 87, of Delaplaine died Saturday August 2, 2008 at
St. Elizabeth’s Place in Jonesboro. She was born April 12, 1921 to Bill and
Sadie Clayton. She was a homemaker and attended Delaplaine Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Crawford; parents; and
brothers, Kenneth and Patrick Clayton.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolette Ann Ferrell of O’Fallon, Missouri;
granddaughter, Heather Licavoli and great grandchildren Gianna and Joey
Licavoli of Fenton, Missouri; sister, Billie Lou Deering of Hernando,

Lois ”Joan” Ferguson, 65, of Paragould, died Sunday, August 3, 2008, at UAMS
in Little Rock.
She was born November 6, 1942 in Cardwell the daughter of the late Roy and
Ethel (Nolen) Yeargain. She was a retired beautician.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands: Donna and David Kisner
of Ocean Springs, MS., Judy and Rich Sisak of Florissant, MO., Kathy
Ferguson of Sparta, N.C.; Linda Champ of Florissant, MO.; sister-in-law:

Woodrow Wilson Futrell
Woodrow Wilson Futrell, 95 died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the Greene Acres
Nursing Home. He was born on October 20, 1912 in Greene County to Daniel and
Eliza Jane Futrell. He was a businessman and a member of the Church of
Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers,
four sisters and his first wife Elizabeth Clark Futrell whom he married on
May 21, 1933.
He is survived by his wife; Verda Raines Futrell, two daughters and
son-in-laws; Patricia and Alfred Rowe, Melinda and Larry Brinkley all of
Paragould, one step-son and step daughter-in-law; John and Beverly Raines of
Tucson, AZ., seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and several great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Mitchell Funeral
Home Chapel with Art Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.
Friday until service time at the Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial will be at
10:00 a.m. Saturday with family and friends gathered at Morrow Cemetery.

Mr. Roy Wayne Barnhill, 67, of Benton died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at his
home. He was born October 19, 1940, in Paragould.
Mr. Barnhill was employed at Bill Terry Paint and Body in Benton, a U.S.
Navy Veteran, and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe
Leonard Barnhill and a brother, Gary Barnhill.

James Edwin Godfrey, 79, of Paragould, died on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Mr. Godfrey was born March 9, 1929, he
was retired from the military having served 2 terms in the Korean War and
the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the East Side
Baptist Church.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Donnie and Margaret Ball
Godfrey, daughter, Laura Lynn Godfrey, brothers and sisters, Dickie,
Shirley, Leona, Louise and Ann.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Godfrey of the home, sons, Randy Godfrey

Norma Blankenship Morelli, 75, of Olive Branch, MS, died Thursday, August 7,
2008 in Southhaven, MS.
Mrs. Morelli was born June 27, 1933, she was a cosmetologist and a member of
the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Olive Branch.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, William Earl and Carrie Swindle

Mary A. Feezor
Mary A. Feezor, 83, died Thursday, August 7, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical
Center, Jonesboro.
She was born August 30, 1924, near Paragould to the late John and Cora
Slatton. She was retired from St. Bernards Medical Center, where she worked
as a licensed practical nurse for 31 years. She was a member of Greensboro
Road Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son, William R. Feezor of Jonesboro; two sisters, Eva J.
Coffey and Lenora Lewis, both of Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Feezor; three
brothers, Robert Slatton, Mack Slatton and Willie Slatton; and four sisters,
Juanita Vowell, Ruby Jones, Laura Helms and Fannie Louise Slatton.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Gregg Funeral
Home Chapel of Jonesboro with Terry Joe Kee and Bill Willard officiating.
Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary Etta Holland, 91, of Jonesboro passed away Thursday, August 7, 2008, at
Rose Skill Care Nursing Center.
She was born in Mississippi on August 5, 1917, to Will and Almedia Jumper.
Ms. Holland was a homemaker and of the Methodist belief.
She leaves behind her sons, Bob Holland and his wife Linda, and Michael
Holland, all of Bono, and Gary Holland and his wife Jamie of Jonesboro;
daughters, Brenda Inzer and her husband Floyd, Bonnie Holland, Sharon
Holland and Becky Holman, all of Jonesboro; 16 grandchildren; 22

Roy Jess Isom, 52, of Paragould passed away Friday, August 8, 2008, in St.
Louis at John Cockrum VA Medical Center.
He was born July 4, 1956, in San Andreas, Calif., to Roy and Georgia McMains
Isom. He served in the U.S. Army and attended Fairview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Huffine Isom; three daughters, Rebecca
Book, Jamie Moore and her husband Jacob and Cindy Tracer and her husband
Jason, all of Paragould; three brothers, Ben Isom of Brookland, Earnest Isom

Mary Magdalene Stephen
Mary Stephen, 102, of Rector, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008, in
Evergreen Nursing Home at Rector, where she was a resident.
Mary was born May 29, 1906, to the late Bill and Virgie Moore Drope north of
Marmaduke. She was a loving mother and wife, an active member of the BRAD
center, loved to play dominoes and lived long enough to become the oldest
lady at the Labor Day Picnic for the years of 2006 and 2007.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert
Stephen; a son-in-law, Rudy Griffin;
four brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Gary and Alice Stephen,
and Gail and Janet Stephen, all of St. Helen, Mich., and Ronald and Glenna
Stephen of Jonesboro; one daughter, Armella Griffin of Tehachapi, Calif.; 10
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren;

Glenn “Stoney” Ray Stonebraker, 74, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, August
10, 2008, at Memphis V.A. Medical Center.
Glenn was born January 28, 1934 in Tyrone, Pennsylvania the son of the late
Glenn and Mable Stonebraker and was also preceded in death by his sister.
He enjoyed a successful military career retiring from the Coast Guard as a
chief petty officer. He later owned and operated Stoney’s Bike Shop.
Survivors include by his wife Juanita, of the home; son and daughter-in-law,
James and Brenda Stonebraker of Memphis; sisters: Gwenivere Brisbon and Rita
Parker of Tyrone, Pennsylvania; brother, Robert Buck; step grandchild, John
William Lamberth of Jacksonville, Florida; and five great-grandchildren and
a host of close friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 13th
at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel

Byron Alonzo Parrish
Alonzo Parrish, 93 of Paragould, formerly of Knob passed away August 10,
2008, at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. He was born to the
late Robert and Julia Parrish on July 30, 1915. He married Fredonia Mobbs on
April 18, 1936. He worked as a farmer and at the Boydsville Gin for many
years.
Alonzo is survived by his wife, Fredonia; one daughter, Joyce McDaniel of

Jessie Geraldine “Toots” Markin, 83, of Monette, died Wednesday, August 13,

She was born January 22, 1925, in Monette to the late William and Sarah
Loftin. She was a homemaker and member of the Monette Assembly of God.

David Taylor Chunn
David Taylor Chunn, 56, of Paragould died Thursday, August 14, 2008, at his
residence.
He was born June 2, 1952, in Michigan, the son of Earl and Monnie Chunn. He
married the love of his life, Marsha, on November 20, 1976.
He loved riding motorcycles, helping build race cars and was a truck driver
and handyman. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Chunn; and
sisters, Margaret Chunn and Ruby Norris.
David is survived by his wife, Marsha; daughters, Joy Wortman and Samantha
Davis; one son, David Taylor, all of Paragould; brother, Edward Chunn of
Walcott; sister, Earline Loucks of Mount Morris, Mich.; and three
grandchildren.

Earline Dollins, 88, of Paragould, died Friday, August 15, 2008, in
Jonesboro.
She was born May 14, 1920 in Greene County the daughter of the late Earl and
Lillie Davidson Shearer. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Woodrow Dollins, daughter, Betty Dollins Burton, son-in-law, Leland Gregory,
siblings, Dillon Shearer, Vernell Wigginton, Sue Lamb Wigginton, and Mary
Kathryn Shearer.
Mrs. Dollins retired from Belk Simpson and was a member of West View Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law: Karolyn Dollins Gregory of
Paragould, Brenda and Jimmy Dan Maddox of Jonesboro; sister: Lana Edwards of
Paragould, brother: Charles Shearer of Bossier City, Louisiana;
grandchildren: Selena Gregory, Lisa Cause, Kathy Gregory, Kim Graham, Mark
Maddox, Kevin Burton and Timothy Maddox and six great grandchildren.

James Donald Fitzgerald, 89 of Paragould, departed this life on Saturday,
August 16, 2008 at the Greene Acres Nursing Home.
He was born on August 27, 1918 in Greene County, Arkansas to
A.F. and Lee Vertie Fitzgerald.
Mr. Fitzgerald was a retired farmer and a Charter Member of
Stanford Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Walter, Carlton and
Earl and one sister; Beatrice Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his wife; Ernestine Fitzgerald, of the home, daughter and
son-in-law; Carolyn and Rudy Vines of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, step-son and
step-daughter-in-law; Ronald and Sherma Dicus, step-daughter and
step-son-in-law; Linda and Dewayne Weese, sisters-in-law; Ruby and Mary Emma
Fitzgerald all of Paragould, four step-grandsons and 7 step great
grandchildren, one nephew and one great nephew.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19th at the Mitchell
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sam Stewart officiating, with burial in Greene

William Harvey Turner, 56, of Paragould, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.
William was born October 5, 1951 into the family of the late Frank and Marie
(Stanfill) Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Turner; daughters, Myra Sutterfield of
Mountain View and Crystal King of Corning; sons, Harvey Turner of Mountain
View and Frank Turner of Paragould; sisters, Sherry Corder of Corning,
Brenda Wilson of Mountain View, Diane Kersey of Cardwell, Vickie Huffman of

Earlene (Grady) Futrell, age 85, of Paragould, died Sunday, August 17, 2008,
at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She attended the First
United Methodist Church in Paragould and was co-owner of the Party Store,
Inc. for over 31 years.
Born October 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Sarethna
Grady. She was also preceded by her husband, Jeptha F. Futrell, Jr.;
daughter, Linda Dianne Futrell; and brothers, John Grady and Charles Grady.

He was born March 22, 1954, at Rector to Wilbert and Naydean Meddress Nicley.

Frances Evans Sharp, 87, formerly of Paragould, passed away July 28, 2008,
due to natural causes. She was a member of The United Trainmen Union, Mizpah
Lodge #481. She worked as a homemaker and a nurses’ aid.
Mrs. Sharp was born August 7, 1920, in Paragould to Mary Jane and James
Samuel Evans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Sharp.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Sharp Everett of Lakeland, Fla.; one

Glenda Faye Carroll, 64, of Champaign, IL. formerly of Paragould, died

Born July 12, 1944, in Greene County, Mrs. Carroll was a missionary and
member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include her husband, Junior Carroll of Champaign; two sons and

Carroll of Murrieta, CA; and four grandchildren, Ryan, Abby, Nathan, and

Beloved wife and mother, Lula Belle (Williams) Medsker, age 70, of Crystal

Mrs. Peggy Marie Bishoff, 80, of Jonesboro, formerly of Leachville, died

Underwood Olive and had lived most of her life in Leachville and was a

brothers.

Virginia Thomas, 69, of Paragould died Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at St.
Vincent’s Infirmary at Little Rock.
Born October 19, 1938, to Rex and Violet Roberts Lawrence, she married Leo
Thomas in September 1965. She was a licensed practical nurse at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center until her retirement in 2003. She was also an
active member of the AMMC Retirees and River of Life Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Shirley Thomas of
Jonesboro; her mother, Violet Ford of Paragould; three sisters, Thelma Jean
Johnson and Dorothy Lawrence, both of Paragould, and Joyceann Martin of
Jonesboro; two brothers, Rilo Lawrence of Jonesboro and John Lawrence of
Imperial, Mo.; a granddaughter, Misty Turner; and a great-grandson, Kaden
Turner of Jonesboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband; father; two brothers, Rexford and

Shipman. She lived in Millington, Mich. since 1950. She is retired from
General Motors Fisher Body.

Lucille Shipman, Nadine Tuner and Deronda Sheeks; one brother, J.M. Shipman.

Charles David Berry, Sr., 47 of Paragould, died Friday August 22, 2008 in
Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on December 31, 1960 in St. Louis,
Missouri. Mr. Berry was an auto mechanic.

Hazel Narine McLeskey
Hazel Narine McLeskey, 64, of Lafe passed away August 22, 2008, at her home.
She was born August 7, 1944, in Clay County, AR.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas McLeskey; three sons, Steven Ray
McLeskey and his wife Paula of Lafe, Kenneth Dean McLeskey and his wife,
Lesa of Paragould and Dale Allen McLeskey of Lafe; her mother, Eulale
Cameron of Paragould a sister, Jo Ann Hoots of Rector and two grandchildren
Ashley and Kirtis McLeskey.
She was preceded in death by her father, George W. Clark.
The family will receive friends 12-2 p.m., Sunday, at Phillips Funeral Home.
At 3:30 p.m., there will be a graveside service at the Gravel Hill Cemetery
in St. Francis with Randy Dalton officiating.

Imogene Ruth Blackburn
Imogene Ruth Blackburn, 87 of Paragould died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at
the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Mrs. Blackburn was born
on March 27, 1921 in Greene County, Arkansas.
Mrs. Blackburn graduated from Alexander High School. She was active in
community projects and church activities including raising funds for various
charities. She participated in parent groups to benefit the schools that her
children attended. She was an avid gardener who delighted in preserving
vegetables that she grew. She served as a substitute teacher for many years.
She also taught Sunday school classes for children and youth. Mrs. Blackburn
was a member of Third Avenue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Blackburn was preceded in death by her mother: Etta Winn and a grand
daughter: Kelley Lynn Blackburn.
Survivors include; her husband of 69 years; James Blackburn, two sons and
daughter-in-law; Jimmy Pat Blackburn, Tim and Melissa Blackburn, one
daughter and son-in-law; Linda and Ronnie Edwards all of Paragould, five
grandchildren; Justin Blackburn, Britt Blackburn Hawley Blackburn, Shelby
Blackburn and Bridgette Blackburn McNabb and by two great grandchildren, and
many friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the
Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Lee and Dennis Vowell officiating,
burial will follow at the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday at the Mitchell
Funeral Home.

Buck Rogers
Buck Rogers, 79, born March 8, 1929, in Paragould, Ark., passed away
Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Acosta-Rua Hospice in Jacksonville, Fla.
He was a longtime member and deacon of Hyde Park Baptist Church and Hyde
Park Masonic Lodge #370. He retired from K-Mart followed by employment with
Michaels Distribution Center.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Amelia Shearer Rogers; son,
Reggie Rogers (Pam) of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Angela Hacker (Leonard
Dale) of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Bohlmann (Sam) of
Jacksonville, Fla., Tammy Chasteen (Chris) of Brunswick, Ga., and Brian
Hougland (Andrea) of Middleburg, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren and six
step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Connie Sidebottom of Gainesville,
Ark., Pat Mullins of Gainesville, Ark., and Carolyn Hester (Bill) of Wynne,
Ark.; two brothers, Rex Rogers (Ann) of Marion, Ark. and Warren Rogers (Kaylen)
of Drasco, Ark.; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, at Jacksonville Memory
Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. Funeral services
in celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Hyde Park
Baptist Church, 2000 Lane Ave. South, Jacksonville, FL 32210. Interment will
follow in the Garden of Apostles at Jacksonville Memory Gardens.
Vera Lois Thomas
Vera Lois Thomas, 82, of Corning, died Sunday, August 24, 2008, at the
Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.
She was born March 11, 1926, in Pollard, the daughter of the late Henry and
Annie (Ozier) Dunlap.
She was united in marriage to Clarence E. "Speedy" Thomas on Nov. 25, 1945.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Speedy" Thomas; her
daughter, Carolyn Wise; her brothers, Edward Dunlap, Cecil Dunlap, Dell
Dunlap and Deloyd Dunlap, and her sisters, Meadie Conyers, Lela Brady and
Lucille Dunlap.
Survivors include her sons, Jackie Thomas and wife Betty of Corning, and
Robert Thomas and wife Regina of Paragould; four grandchildren, Kevin Evans
of Marion, Ill., Anjannette Conner and husband Craig of Katy, Texas, Shelly
Tracer and husband Scott of Rector, Jackie Thomas Jr. and wife LeAnne of
Montgomery, Ala.; 11 great-grandchildren, Tara Woods and husband John of

and Sons Chapel with Sunny Williams officiating. Burial will be in New Hope
Cemetery at Pollard.

Charles "Richard" Miller
Born July 11, 1941, Richard Miller, age 67, of Cardwell, MO, died Tuesday,
August 26, 2008 at his residence. He was an employee of Foremost Dairy for
15 years and served in the U. S. Air Force and was of the Baptist belief.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Gladys Myracle
Miller; brothers, Roy and Carl Miller and sister, Norma Hall.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Johnson Skelton Miller of the home;
sons, Charles Anthony and Andrew Stonewall Miller both of Malden, MO;
daughters, Bridgett Curtis of St. Clair Shores, MI and Cindy DeWitt of
Fredericksburg, VA; sisters, Betty Tolley and Mary Lou Jackson of Cardwell,
MO and Margaret Ann Corwin of Cerritos, CA. Nine grandchildren.

Dennis McFarlin
Dennis McFarlin was born May 17, 1953 in Paragould, son of Glenville and
Louise McFarlin. He died Tuesday, August 26, 2008. He was 55 years of age.
A member of Grassylead Church of Christ, he was employed by Shawn Stewart
Cars and delivered used cars.
Survivors include one son, Brian McFarlin; 4 brothers Sidney McFarlin,
Corning, Leonard Darr and Kenny Darr both of Mountain Home and Larry Darr,
Jonesboro; two sisters Norma Jo White, Corning and Mary Pelts, Mountain

Vergia Coe, age 89, of Paragould died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1919, into the family of
S.M. and Venia Watson Miller. She was a farmer and a homemaker and a member
of Vines Chapel Baptist Church.
Vergia is preceded in death by her husband Ray Coe; daughter, Debbie Ring;
her parents; brothers: Avery, Calvin and Richard Miller and sisters, Opal
Miller and Vera Ivey.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Evans of Paragould and Fredia Kellim
and husband, Tommy of St. Charles, Missouri;son-in-law, Dan Ring of
Paragould; brothers: Jerome, Dewey and Louis Miller of Paragould and Jerry

Laura Hazel McCollum Gaia
Laura Hazel McCollum Gaia, age 93, of Memphis, died August 27, 2008, at
Lynnfield Place in Selmer, TN.
She was the daughter of the late John H. and Mamie Carrier and preceded in
death by her two husbands, Charles W. McCollum and Lee F. Gaia.
Mrs. Gaia is survived by her daughter, Diane Rogers of Collierville;
grandsons, David Rogers, Jr. and Christopher Rogers; and three
great-grandchildren, Casey Rogers, Cara Rogers, and Sean Rogers.

Helen L. Thayer
Helen L. Thayer, age 97, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, August 28,
2008, at the Senath Nursing Center.
Mrs. Thayer was born May 31, 1911. She was a former employee of Belk Simpson

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dora Belle Jenkins;

Born September 10, 1956, in Walnut Ridge, he was a grocery clerk.

Marie Gillmore Massey
Marie Gillmore Massey, age 86, of Paragould, formerly of Batesville died
Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center,
Paragould.
She was born November 24, 1921 in Independence County between Sulphur Rock
and Charlotte in Independence County and was the daughter of C. D. and Ella
(Lewis) Gillmore.
She went to the Oak Bluff School in the Charlotte area. Marie was a nurse
and worked for Gray’s Hospital and local nursing homes before retiring.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack
Massey; a daughter, Sybil Jo Woodman; an infant son; two brothers, Ophus
Gillmore and Odell Gillmore; and one sister, Mabel McCloud.
Marie is survived by her son, James L. Woodman of Paragould; three
grandchildren: Jamie Woodman of Batesville, James K. Woodman of Jonesboro;
and Pamela K. Carr of Paragould; ten great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Sylvia Smith of Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Roller-Crouch Chapel
with Ralph Wallis and Steve Norris officiating.
Burial will follow the services at the Bethel Cemetery in the Gainsboro
community under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Roy Lee Walker
Roy Lee Walker, 68, of Jonesboro died Sunday, August 31, 2008, at his home.
He was born June 24, 1940 at Paragould and had lived in Jonesboro for 20
years, moving here from Paragould. He was a retired brick mason for 23 years
and was working as a custodian for Jonesboro Public Schools for 14 years. He
was of the nondenominational belief.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Rachel Kee Walker; and one
stepson, V. Wayne Free.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Walker of the home; two
daughters, Katherin Spargo and husband Joey of Hoxie and Barbara Mahan and
husband Shawn of Jonesboro; two brothers, Jerry Walker of Jonesboro and
Willie Walker of Paragould; one sister, Ola Mosby of Paragould; five
grandchildren, Crystal Davis, Ray Shelton, Mary Parks, Joe Spargo and
Maverick Parks; and one great-grandson, Kenneth Davis.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 2nd in Emerson Memorial
Chapel with the Revs. Marvin Cline, Butch Parks and Ray Shelton officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
