Ocesa L. Fortenberry

Ocesa L. Fortenberry, 65, of Paragould, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at her residence. She was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Tallapoosa, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Lee and Mable Blanche Berry Gibson; and two brothers, Ira and Leonard Gibson. Survivors include one son, Allen Branch, of Ashville, N.C.; three brothers, Orvel Gibson, Bobby Gibson and the Rev. David L. White, all of Paragould; seven sisters, 
Mary Fisher of De Soto, Mo., Rose McCummiskey of Lakeland, Fla., Maria Norman of Steele, Mo., Bertha Riley of Vienna, Ill., Violet Rose and Judy Utley, both of Paragould, and Beth Exler of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. David L. White officiating. Burial will be in Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Violet Higgins


Violet Higgins, 81, died August 4, 2003. She was born August 12, 1912 to the late Hill and Della Taylor Smith. She a Methodist.

She is survived by her husband, Loy Higgins; a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Donald Lawrence of Wynne; three brothers, Doris Mack Smith of Jonesboro, and George Smith and Herbert Smith of Paragould; five sisters, Earline Boling, Anna May Boozer, Shirley Crabtree, and Rene Levins, all of Paragould, and Sue Romine of Rector.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Frankie Greenway, Albertine Gunn, Tomazine Wince, and Alberta Davis; two brothers, Willard and Joe Smith; and a grandson, Dennis Lawrence. Interment in Finch Cemetery arrangements by Heath Funeral Home.


Lavern (Granny) Hollis

Lavern (Granny) Hollis, 89, of Paragould, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was retired from KFC in Paragould and had lived in Paragould since 1972. She was a member of Faith Assembly Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norvil (Juper) Hollis; her parents, Jim and Jewell Dement; and four brothers, Ray Dement, Bobby Dement, Desmond Dement and Alvie Dement.

Survivors include her guardians, Jeff and Dena Gage of Paragould; one sister, Bonnie King of Egypt, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Corvil Sims of Monette and Edwena Hollis of Alabama; two brothers, Charlie Dement of Alburn, Calif. and Donald Dement of Jonesboro; one daughter, Shirley Hollis of Paragould; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with the Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Cemetery in Paragould under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Pallbearers are Curtis Gage, Matthew Gage, Rondal Warner, Larry Clark, Bill Dollar and Melvin Tarpley.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alvin Propst

Alvin Propst, 63, of Doniphan, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare South in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He was born June 28, 1940, in Piggott. He was a retired machinist for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Mich., a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Doniphan. He was also a member of the Trenton Michigan Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Propst; his parents, W.C. "Bus" and Martha Blanche Yarbrough Propst; two brothers, Lee Propst and Charles Propst; and one sister, Christine Lipper.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Bert of Monroe, Mich.; two granddaughters, Vicki Propst and Rachael Woodward; one sister, Emily Cook of Rockford, Ill. and his partner, Helen Outen of Doniphan.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Doniphan with the Rev. Fred Lutz officiating. Following the service in Doniphan, he will be taken to Michigan Memorial Cemetery in Huron Township for burial. Graveside service there will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.


Fidel Merin Rodriguez

Fidel Merin Rodriguez, 29, of Rector, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Twin Rivers Medical Center in Kennett.

He was born May 30, 1974, in Obrajuele Acambaro-Gto, Mexico. He was a roofer/foreman for Quality Roofing and had lived in the community for 10 years. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Leighmann Estes Rodriguez of Rector; one son, Kcobey Rodriquez of the home; one daughter, Torrie Rodriguez of the home; his parents, Samuel and Juana Rodriguez of Obrajuele Acambaro-Gto, Mexico; his mother- and father-in-law, John and Polly Estes of Rector; four brothers, Ivan, Victor, Hugo and Arturo Rodriguez, all of Mexico; and eight sisters, Sandra, Margareta, Berenice, Irene, Lupe, Laura, Laticia and Estrella Rodriguez.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Kenny Burns officiating.

Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector under the direction of Irby Funeral Service.

Pallbearers are Jamie Cates, Bryan Hodge, Jesse Hager, Terry Whitlock, Cleo Ozbun and Charles Tune.

Honorary pallbearer is Ron Brooks.

Steven Ray Taylor

Steven Ray Taylor, 46, of Rector, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born Sept. 1, 1956, in Kennett, Mo. He was a factory worker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Darline Johnson Taylor of the home; his parents, Edward "Bud" Taylor and Ozella Bowman, both of Caly County; one son, Derek Taylor of Russellville; one daughter, Shannon Taylor of the home; one brother, Scott Taylor of Piggott; two sisters, Shelia Dale of Rector and Shirley Decker of Cape Coral, Fla.; his grandmother, Della Redman; his mother-in-law, Earline Johnson of Piggott; and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Irby Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery under the direction of Irby Funeral Service.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today for family members and 5 p.m. today for the public.

Clarence Stevenson

Clarence Stevenson, 98, of Paragould died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003.

He was born Feb. 18, 1905, in Paragould. He was a farmer, a former one-room school teacher and a long-time member of Campground Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Long Stevenson; his parents, U.B. and Maude Reynolds Stevenson; three sons, James Harold Stevenson, Charles Robert Stevenson and Clarence Winifred Stevenson; two brothers, Donald Stevenson and Leon Stevenson; and four sisters, Sylvia Noel Stevenson, Ruth Cooper, Clarice Walden and Vera Blalock.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Betty Jo and Jim McKelvey of Morton, Ill., and Dortha Jean Ballentine of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Fay Wood Stevenson; many nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was Friday at Ortmann Funeral Home in Overland, Mo. Burial was in Laurel Hill under the direction of Ortmann Funeral Home of Overland, Mo.

Alta "Nanny" Boggs, 87, of Paragould, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at her home.

She was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Paragould. She was a co-owner/operator of Boggs Fruit Market. She also worked at Ed White Shoe Factory. She was a member of Grace United General Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Floyd Boggs; her parents, Nicholas Pleze and Rosella Glenn Climer; one granddaughter, Linda Denise May; three brothers, Jesse, Bernice and Smith Climer; and seven sisters, Stella McIntire, Laverne Climer, Christine Rice, Delia Boggs, Lela Thompson, Covelia Chilcutt and Floy Boggs.

Survivors include one son, Bill Boggs of Oxford, Miss.; one daughter, Barbara May of Paragould; one brother, Melvin Climer of Winter Park, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

William Eugene Brandon, 82, of Paragould, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Greene County. He was a retired transport driver for Foremost Dairy and a member of Alexander Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Veneda Brandon and his parents, George and Beulah Brandon.

Survivors include one son, Larry Gene Brandon of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Diana Lynn Brandon of Paragould; two grandchildren, Michael Christopher Brandon and Kelly Brandon; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren Brandon, Christian Brandon, Brandon Vos and Conner Vos.

James Phillip "J.P." Cunningham

James Phillip "J.P." Cunningham, 88, of Paragould died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro.

He was born in Paragould on July 18, 1915.

Cunningham was a retired candy salesman and a World War II Army veteran. He was a charter member of the Harmony Baptist Church. Cunningham also sang in a gospel quartet for more than 50 years and was a former board member of the Greene County Senior BEES.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Willie Cunningham; two brothers, Winston and Carl Cunningham; and one sister, Georgia Crafton.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Elaine Cunningham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Wilma Cunningham of Fort Smith and Jim and Sherry Cunningham of Paragould; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Randal Kingston of Paragould and Sherry and James Vance of Paragould; 10 grandchildren, Sue Ellen Weinstock, Elana Wells, John Cunningham, Lee Kingston, Amy Lucius, Jacob Cunningham, Misty Barnes, Jason Kingston, Jenna Weeks and Kasey Kingston; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Annie George, 83, of Paragould died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in Paragould.

She was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Reid, Miss. She was a member of Bethel Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Osceola.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry George; her sons, Daniel and Paul George; and her parents, Andrew and Ora Smith Logan.

Survivors include two sons, Sam George and Thurel George, both of Paragould; two daughters, Catherine Whitten of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lubbie O'Connor of Centralia, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery in Blytheville with the Rev. Bobby Tidwell officiating.

Gladys M. McKinney

Gladys M. McKinney, 89, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at the Skill Care Nursing Center in Jonesboro.

She was born in Fontaine and lived most of her life in Jonesboro. She was a homemaker and member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Chancel Choir for 40 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Prairie Grove County Extension Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by one son, Don Curtis McKinney; her parents, Charlie and Mattie Brown Simpson; and one sister, Vema Simpson.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis V. McKinney of the home; one son, Dale McKinney of Jonesboro; two daughters, Charlotte Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, and Doris Clark of Marion; eight grandchildren, David McKinney of Cabot, Rick McKinney of Jonesboro, Don McKinney of Slidell, La., Mark Smith of The Woodlands, Texas, Karen Baumli of Austin, Texas, Stacy Dortch of Paragould, Curt Clark of Farmington and Cory Clark of Jonesboro; and nine great-grandchildren.

Bud James Shaw

Bud James Shaw, 84, of Rector died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Piggott.

He was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Hargrave Corner.

He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Marion and Louissia Shaw; two brothers, Zachary and Bob Shaw; and two sisters, Lottie Tucker and Lydia Myricks.

Survivors include his wife, Almareta Barker Shaw of Rector; two sons, Bob Shaw of Rector and Jim Shaw of Pollard; one daughter, Jane Shaw of Rector; one brother, George L. Shaw of Rector, one sister, Virginia Oldrham of Flint, Mich., and three grandchildren, Craig, Chance and Coty Shaw of Pollard.

The funeral was be held Monday at Woodland Heights Cemetery of Rector, with Bro. Gary Hancock officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery of Rector.

Christian R. Heck

Christian R. Heck, 82, of Paragould, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003.

He was a member of Orcutt Presbyterian Church, Orcutt Senior Center, Jussel Senior Center, Central Coast Computer Club, Mended Hearts and Orcutt Hams Club. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in November 1969. He attended Allan Hancock College, receiving two associate's degrees. In 1991, he was named Senior Citizen of the Year. He was a maintenance man for Oasis Senior Center since its beginning.

He was a handyman and did much work for his church, Oasis Senior Center and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian S. and Virginia Hopper Heck.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lois Heck of Santa Maria, Calif.; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris W. and Lee Heck; and two grandchildren, Brian and Darren of San Jose, Calif.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Orcutt Presbyterian Church.

Irvin Verdane "Doc" Stahl

He was born March 8, 1927, in Greene County. He was the retired owner/operator of S and S Gravel Co. and a Methodist. He achieved the 32nd degree in the Masons, and was a Shriner, a private pilot and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Orabin and Wilma Bertie Ratledge Stahl; one daughter, Becky Melrose; three brothers, Gerald Stahl, George Stahl and Olan Stahl; and one brother-in-law the Rev. Jim Holt.

Survivors include his wife, Neala Mae Austin Stahl; three daughters and sons-in-law Libby and Larry Combs of Fayetteville, Martha and Noli Molina of Fayetteville and Cindy and Jeff Barcome of Waterford, Mich,; one brother and sister-in-law, Orvil and Wanda Stahl of Salem; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nova Holt of Braymer, Mo. and Frances and the Rev. Kevin Lee McDonald

Kevin Lee McDonald, 25, of Marion, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003 at a Memphis hospital.

He was born April 17, 1978, in Jonesboro. He was a sales and service representative for Safety Kleen in Millington, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.W. and Mildred McDonald.

Survivors include his parents, Jerry Wayne and Ona Louise Moss McDonald of Jonesboro, one sister, Katherine Zaharopoulos of Tampa, Fla; his grandparents, Johnny and Irene Moss of Newark; his fiance, Misty Tomlinson of Marion and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at the Center Grove Cemetery in Charlotte under the direction of Qualls Beatesville Funeral Service of Batesville.

Elizabeth Larimer Fairchild

Elizabeth Larimer Fairchild, 70, of Paragould, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born July 3, 1933, in Paragould. She was a retired LPN from Paragould Nursing Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Opal Oliver, her husband, Edward Arlen Fairchild, and by two brothers, John David and Donnie Lee Oliver.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Russell Larimer of Paragould, and Kevin and Shirley Larimer of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Bert Copeland of Paragould; two sisters, Thelma Wyatt of St. Louis, Mo., and Helen Adams of Paragould; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at New Friendship Cemetery in Paragould with the Rev. Marc Reeves officiating. Burial will be in the New Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Procession will leave the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. today.

Anna Mae Hambrick

Anna Mae Hambrick, 75, of Paragould, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born June 7, 1928, in Charleston, Mo. She was a retired nursing assistant and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Arthur and Rosetta Blagg Murray.

Survivors include two sons, Buster Hambrick of Arbyrd, Mo., and John Hambrick, Jr., of Paragould; three daughters, Joan Gross and Rosetta Jones, both of Paragould, and Peggye Hambrick of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, Charles Murray of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Joyce Bishop of St. Louis and Mabel Ward of Paragould; two stepsons, Dave Hambrick of Marietta, Ga., and Alvin Hambrick of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Doris Mills of Morehouse, Mo.; four grandsons, three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Greene County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jesse Dollars officiating and under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Cecil E. Wicker, Jr.

Cecil E. Wicker, Jr., 53, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 30, 1950, in Walnut Ridge. He was owner and operator of Personal Touch Floor Care and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Vernille Truxler Wicker.

Survivors include his wife, Kathey Pace Wicker of the home; his father, Cecil E. Wicker of Hoxie; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Chad and Andrea Wicker of Sedgewick and Toby Wicker of Jonesboro; one stepson, Justin Berg of Jonesboro; one brother, Terry Wicker of Valley View; one honorary brother, Dennis Truxler of Hoxie; three sisters, Gina Scudder and Vicki Smith, both of Paragould and Teresa Campbell of Hoxie; one grandson, Augustus Wicker of Sedgwick; one stepgranddaughter, Jeryn Berg of Jonesboro; seven nieces, two nephews and many other relatives and friends.

A private memorial service will be announced later by the Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Truman Hoyd Akes

Truman Hoyd Akes, 71, of Paragould, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

He was born in Russellville and was a longtime resident of the Leachville/Monette area before moving to Paragould 14 years ago. He was a member of Monette First Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie "J.W." and Jessie Harvey Akes; and one brother, Raymond Akes.

Survivors include one brother, Floyd Akes of Monette; two sisters, Ruby Davidson and Mary Tyler, both of Paragould; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with the Rev. Terry Miller officiating. Burial will be in Cudd Cemetery in Marmaduke under the direction of Howard Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary Boozer

Mary Boozer, 93, of Paragould, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born May 5, 1910, in Greene County and was a homemaker. She was the former drummer for the Senior BEES as well as an active member of the group. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ovel Boozer; her parents, George and Cordilia Oden; and four brothers, William Oden, Marvin Oden, Cecil Oden, and Elmer Oden.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leonard Boozer and Louie and Sandy Boozer, all of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law, Wilma Lurvene and Jackie Copeland of Paragould; one brother, Delbert Oden of Paragould; two sisters, Dora Odell of Banning, Calif., and Jewell Hammond of Saint Ann, Mo.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Bro. Raymond Atwood officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Jeff Hudson, Josh Hudson, Gary Boozer, Gary Boozer, Jr., Norman Boozer and Leslie Oden.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Hudson, Richard Jackson and Mike Edwards.

Millie Reasons

Millie Reasons 93, of Paragould, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett, Mo.

She was born May 2, 1915 in Lake County, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Reasons; her parents, Abernathy and Laura Ann Rowe Davidson; one brother and five sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Mealer of Poplar Bluff, William R. "Buddy" Mealer of San Antonio, Texas, and Gary W. Mealer of Paragould; three daughters, Margaret Griffin of Dry Prong, La, Emma Jean Tucker of Clarkton, Mo., and Paula Tucker of Kennett, Mo.; two sisters, Mabel Duncan of Campbell, Mo., and Estelle Thomas of St. Louis, Mo.; and 18 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at McDaniel Chapel in Kennett, Mo. with the Rev. Don Emery officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, Mo., under the direction of McDaniel Funeral Home.

Visitation was from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday in Kennett at the funeral home.

Irma Nerene Gwyn

Irma Nerene Gwyn, 85, of South Milwaukee, Wisc., died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Honey Creek Rehabilitation Center in Milwaukee.

She was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Rector. She was a retired beautician for Nerene's Beauty Shop and a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lula Foster Roofe.

Survivors include one daughter, Irma Koscielak of South Milwaukee; two stepdaughters, Genavie Mikel and Ruby Earline Hammond, both of Paragould; two sisters, Vonagene Gatewood of Rector and Jesslyn True of Holcomb, Mo.; two granddaughters, Debra Jones and Julie Wojczak, both of South Milwaukee; four grandsons, Keith Mikel and Craig Mikel, both of Paragould, and Phillip Farley of Beech Grove and Birch Farley of Bastrop, La.; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Everett Isom officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Esther J. Perrin

Esther J. Perrin, 92, of Rector, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Rector Healthcare.

She was born March 27, 1911, in Rector, where she lived most of her life. She was a retired shoe clerk for Brown Shoe Company and a member of Rector First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Lee Perrin; her parents, William Finis and Ettie Gertrue Shockley Shannon; two brothers, Tommy Shannon and Omer Shannon; four sisters, Ruthie Shannon, Gracie Shannon, Pearl Storey and Lula Vinson.

Survivors include one sister, Eunis Morris of Rector and many nephews and nieces.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with the Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector under the direction of Irby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are her nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. today.

Edgar Tisdal

Edgar Tisdal, 62, of Piggott died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at his residence. He was born April 10, 1941, in Hickoria.

He was a retired fork-lift driver for L.A. Darling Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Lee Tisdal and Fannie (Satterfield) Dobbins Tisdal; and one son, Rockey Dean Tisdal.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Busby Tisdal of Piggott; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richey and Louise Tisday of Corning, Christopher Tisdal of St. Louis, Mo., and Buel and Linda Tisday of Naylor, Mo.; two daughters, Kathey Kelley and Kim Ray of Corning; four brothers, Thomas Dobbins of Clarkton, Mo., Truman (Buck) Dobbins of Corning, Presley Dobbins of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Leroy Dobbins of Kennett, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Lee Wood

Billy Lee Wood, 68, of Paragould, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Paragould Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born July 8, 1935, in the Finch Community. He was a retired bus driver for Great Southern Coaches. He was a former music director for many area church and social affiliations. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was music director of the Golden Circle Choir. In addition, he was a former alderman on the city council and vice mayor, and a former member of the Democratic Central Committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lorene Hester Wood.

He is survived by one son, Trent Wood of Paragould; one daughter, Rhonda Brown of Paragould; one sister, Ruth Watson of Paragould; a niece, Margot Herron of Paragould; and a nephew, Tommy Watson of Paragould.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Finch Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Neathery and the Rev. C.E. Moses officiating, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Watson, Willie Watson, Roy Rhea, Glen Adams, Jim Linkenfelter and Wymon Highfill

Nancy Jean Wooldridge

Nancy Jean Wooldridge, 56, of Paragould died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born Oct. 26, 1946, in Paragould. She was a school teacher/librarian for the Paragould School District. She worked as a teacher for 31 years and started teaching third grade in 1972. She worked as a librarian at Elmwood Elementary School and then at Oak Grove Elementary School. She was a member of East Main Church of Christ in Paragould and a member of the Alpha Upsilon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Andrew and Dona Lenderman Mitchell; and a brother, Joe Mitchell.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Wooldridge of Paragould; one daughter, Ginny Wooldridge of Paragould; and one brother, Johnny Mitchell of Stuttgart.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with ministers Zane Gray and Herbert Starr officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Kimmy Don Rogers, Jerry Highfill, Joe Wessell, Kevin Gill, Steve Kiefner, Mark Clark and Jeff Freeman. The Oak Grove School faculty and staff will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Linda Gayle Miller McFarland

Linda Gayle Miller McFarland, 60, of Granbury, Tex. formerly of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, at her residence. She earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University, a master's degree from Texas Christian University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. She taught history at Arkansas State University and served as chairman of the Williams Baptist College Dept. of History. She was a member of the Indian Harbor Ladies' Club, the League of Women Voters, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Policy and the American Association of University Professors.

Survivors include her husband, C.K. "Mac" McFarland of the home; a daughter, Melissa Parrish of Fort Worth, Tex; her father, Elroy H. Miller of Rockwall, Tex.,; and a sister, Susan Stanfield of San Angelo, Tex.

The body was cremated under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Fort Worth.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Saturday in the Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Worth.

Mercedes and Alexus Woodward

Merecedes and Alexus Woodward, twin girls, died Friday, Aug. 29, at Arkansas Children's Hospital/Arkansas Methodist Hospital due to extreme prematurity. They were born Aug. 29, 2003.

Survivors include their parents, Telley Combs of Bono and Johnathon Woodward of Jonesboro; paternal grandparents, Edwin and Deborah Yancy and Olibuel Woodward; maternal grandparents, Sharon Nanny and Danny Combs; great-grandparents, Olivia and Florence Woodward.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Sept. 3 at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Rev. David Johnston will officiate. There will be no procession. Please meet at the cemetery.

Burial will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould. There will be no visitation.
