J. W. Dortch

 


J. W. Dortch, 72, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born May 14, 1939 in Paragould to Noah and Vida Dortch.
He was a 1957 graduate of Greene County Tech, served four years in the Navy, was in the National Guard, an Alderman of Paragould for many years and was a member of Morning Star Evangelical Methodist Church. He liked auctions and demolition derbies.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, R. L. and Lavoy Dortch; two sisters, Imogene Causby and Yvonne McDonald and a step-daughter, Tonya Beasley.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Dortch of the home; one son, Curtis Dortch; one daughter and son-in-law Belinda and Steve Causey; a step-daughter, Sonya Brown, a step-son, Keith Franks; an adopted son, Cody Franks; one brother, Larry Dortch; fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, April 4th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Phillips Funeral Home. There Graveside services will be Thursday, April 5th, 10:00 a.m. at Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery with Kevin Edgar officiating.

Bonnie McDaniel
 


Bonnie McDaniel of Paragould passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. She was born October 22, 1927 to the late Tom and Cuba Ragsdell of Stanford, Arkansas. She was an active member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ for over 60 years. Bonnie was a homemaker and married 63 years to John “Jay” McDaniel. She also loved watching Wheel of Fortune.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her husband; sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Barbara McDaniel, Dr. Craig and Cindy McDaniel; six grandchildren, Kyle, Cory, Von, Lindy, and Macy McDaniel, Lauren Teague; one great grandchild, Lilah McDaniel.

Visitation will be Monday evening, April 2nd, 6:00 until 8:00 at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 3rd, 11:00 am at the 7th and Mueller Church of Christ at with Larry McFadden and Michael Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Family members will act as pallbearers.

Lasting memorials can be made to Children’s Homes of Paragould.

Otto Dewaine Michael
 


Otto Dewaine Michael, 66, of Lake City left this world on April 2, 2012 as the angel came and bore his soul into glory. He was born December 22, 1945 in Benton Harbor, MI.. to Stearl and Virginia Michael. He served two years in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked in Kansas as a diesel mechanic, retired to Arkansas.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Diana Michael; one son, Christopher Michael and a daughter, Dawn Michael.

He is survived by two daughters, Destie Flores and Stephanie Michael; one grandchild, Makayla Michael all of California; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Arlene Michael of Kansas, Ray and Ginger Michael of Kansas and Ed and Betty Michael of Lake City; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Don Clark of Arkansas and Linda and Rick Jones of Missouri.


Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 10th, 11:00 a.m. at Wood’s Chapel Cemetery with Missionary/Elder Rick Jones officiating

Iverne Kilburn
 


Iverne Kilburn, 90, of Paragould, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at Belle Meade Healthcare, Paragould.

She was born February 26, 1922, to the late Arthur and Myrtle Koster in Attica, Arkansas. Iverne lived in Pocahontas before moving to Greene County. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Paragould.

Iverne loved her family and gardening and won awards for her crocheting.

In addition to her parents; Iverne was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Kilburn; two sisters, Irene Howard, Pearl Smith; and a brother, Ed Koster.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Gordon Dowler of Paragould, Freda and Donnie Kemp of Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Brigette Widmer and Serena Dowler of Paragould, Melinda Speers of Little Rock; and three grandsons, Bellamy Kemp of Lewisville, Texas, Brandon Kemp of Jonesboro, and Rick Dowler of Doniphan, Missouri. She is also survived by one sister, Rosie Chesser of Paragould; one brother, Bud Watts of Wentzville, Missouri; ten great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 4th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Marion Stringer officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Rick Lenderman, Roger Lenderman, Danny Lenderman, Vance Cupp, Rick Dowler and Doug Speer will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Lands, Glen Maples and Jerry Shipman.

Henry Murlyn Hemingway


Henry Murlyn Hemingway, 73 of Marmaduke passed from this life Tuesday April 3, 2012 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born March 8, 1939 to the late Henry Sr. and Muryl (Bishop) Hemingway in Otter Lake, Michigan. Henry was a member of the V.F.W, American Legion, was of the Episcopalian faith, and served our country in the Army for 42 years. Henry was also a distant relative to Ernest Hemingway.

Mr. Hemingway was preceded in death by his parents: Henry Sr. and Muryl Hemingway, one brother: Max Hemingway, and one sister: Maxine Scott.

Henry is survived by his wife Audline (Clark) Hemingway of the home, twelve children, 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, April 5th, 5:00 until 9:00 at the Irby Funeral Home of Marmaduke. Funeral services will be Friday April 6th, 2:00 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home chapel with Brothers Kim Bridges and Glen Loga officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Ramer's Chapel Cemetery west of Marmaduke.

Wendell Randell Staton
 



Wendell Randell Staton, 72 of Paragould, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. Wendell was born January 17, 1940. He was retired from Hytrol in Jonesboro and was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Ollis and Emily Brashears Staton; brothers Delmar and Bert Staton and sister Faye Staton.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Leveda Staton of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Krista Staton of Colorado Springs, CO and Brian and Melissa Staton of Paragould; daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Shane Stoval of Paragould; sisters, Diva Chestine of Berrien Springs, MI and Phyllis Kingston of Paragould. 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, April 6th, 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Sam Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Epsaba Cemetery.

E. Don Powers



E. Don Powers, 66, of Paragould passed away April 4, 2012 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born February 21, 1946 at Beech Grove to Elmer and Ruth Powers. He enjoyed Flea Markets, playing the piano for churches, camping and fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Troy and Chestley Powers: two sisters, Mae Block and Bertha Bearden

He is survived by two brothers, Houston and Clifton Powers; three sisters, Evelyn Steelman, Alberta Heltsley and Vi Powers.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 7th, 2:00 at Phillips Funeral Home with L. R. Smith officiating.

Visitation is from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to services. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery

Orviline Grady
 


Orviline Grady, 69, of Paragould, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Belle Meade Healthcare.

Born November 9, 1942, in Harrisburg, she was a homemaker and former factory worker. Mrs. Grady was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Jim Williams of Paragould; two sisters, Betty Summerlin of Gore, Oklahoma, and Laverne “Sally” Pendergrass of Oregon; two half-sisters, Nina Parmer and Phyllis Parmer, and two half-brothers, Homer Parmer and Marion Parmer, all of Arizona.

Survivors also include three granddaughters and their husbands, Brandy and Michael Brown and Amanda and Larry Jones, all of Black Oak, Mary Beth and Paul Merchant of Detroit, Michigan; two grandsons, Michael and his wife, Tonia, Williams, and Sean Williams, all of Lansing, Michigan. She is also survived nieces, Patricia Hailey, Susan Hailey, Ellen Rawls, Regina Layer, Brenda Hammack; nephews, Robert, Richard and Ronald Summerlin, Tim Rice, Corey and Shane Grady; eleven great grandchildren; and several other close family members.

She was preceded in death by her son, Billy Gene Grady; her parents, Homer and Thelma Parmer; sister and brother-in-law who raised her, Christine and Bill Hailey; brothers, Sonny and Marion Parmer; niece, Shirley Nelson; half-brother, Phil Parmer; and step-sister, Louise Parmer.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 9th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with J. W. Rawls officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Josh Noel, Justin Noel, Robert Hailey, Sim Rice, Jonathan Rice, and Shawn Christopher will serve as pallbearers.

Patricia "Pat" Tennison Adams
 


Pat started her earthly journey the 15th of June, 1941, when she was born into the loving family of Ralph and Fern Tennison. Pat had a few battles to fight during her journey with the first being as a 9 year old, polio entered her body. The last major battle started January, 2001, when she had lung cancer surgery. Her doctors did not think she would live two years but her loving God had a different plan for her. As the years passed, she would joyfully tell people God had given her another year. About two years ago, the hard fought battle began to take its toll on her body but she battled on. Often she said God would one day give her a new body. God said she has fought a good battle and it’s time for her to receive her new body and on April 6, 2012, her earthly journey ended as He reached down His hand and took her home.
Awaiting Pat in heaven are her parents; sister, Joyce Tennison Speed; brother-in-law, Ace Speed; brothers-in-law, Hulan Adams, J.C. Adams and Roy Adams.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her devoted and loving husband Paul Ray Adams of the home; step-sons, David (Nicki) Adams and James Adams; step-daughter, Dawn Adams Benner, all of St. Joseph, MO; step-grandchildren, Dustin (Barbara) Benner - Schoten Belgium, Brenton Benner U.S. Army - currently serving in Afghanistan, Hunter Adams - U.S. Marines Camp Lejune, N.C, and Madison Adams St. Joseph, MO. One step-great granddaugther Charlotte Rose Benner of St. Joseph, MO; sisters, Linda (Gene) Faulkner of Walcott and Debra (David) Klingensmith of Jonesboro; brothers-in-law, Max Adams, Ed (Sondra) Adams, DeWayne (JoAnn) Adams; sisters-in-law, Mary Adams Peppers, Imadel Adams (Rev. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould. The service will be Thursday, April 12th, 11:00 a.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church south of Walcott where the family will receive visitors from 10:00-11:00a.m. Burial will be at Mt Zion Cemetery.

Logan Reo Morrow
 


Logan Reo Morrow, 31, of Onsted, Michigan, passed away April 4, 2012. He was born June 29, 1980, in Paragould, Arkansas, and is the son of Reo and Carla Crossfield Morrow.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Argel and Patricia Morrow.

Survivors include his parents, Reo and Carla Morrow of Onsted, Michigan; four children: Lyric, Aaron, Lucas, and Chase; sister, Chasity Calhoun of Piggott, Arkansas; maternal grandparents: John and Wanda Crossfield; aunts and uncles: Jimmie and Paula Speer of Piggott, Arkansas, Beth and Kenny Eddington of Corning, Arkansas, Greg Crossfield of Corning, Gail and Sherrie Crossfield of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Robbie and Kim Crossfield of Benton, Arkansas, Jerry and Jaquita Anderson of Piggott, Arkansas, and Annetta and Troy ; niece, Tia; nephew, lil’ Scottie; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Hoggard & Sons Chapel. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Michael Keith Griffith

 


Born June 24, 1985, Michael Keith Griffith, 26, was granted his angel wings on April 5, 2012. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends Michael had touched in some small way throughout his short, yet very memorable life.

Michael is survived by his wife Morgan Liebhaber- Griffith of Paragould, Mother Rebecca Griffith of Pocahontas ,Father Brian Griffith and step-mother Jan Griffith both of Paragould, sister Teresa Griffith - Pfeffer of LittleRock .grandparents Keith and Bobby Griffith of Imboden.
He was preceded by grandparents Charlyne Bayer ,Herman Penn and Grandmother Betty Griffith.

Visitation will be Monday evening, 5:00 until 7:00 in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral home with Tom Letchworth officiating. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 10th, 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home burial will follow in the Chesser Cemetery.

Bennie Miller
 


Bennie Jerome Miller, 84, a lifelong Paragould resident, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 6, 2012 at Belle Meade Nursing Home. Miller was born on September 26, 1927, in Paragould to the late Sebastion and Venia Miller. Mr. Miller was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Emerson Electric. He enjoyed looking for arrowheads and marbles, was loved by many, and loved his family deeply.

Miller was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Neva Miller; one daughter: Shirley Turberville; three brothers, Richard Miller, Avery Miller and Calvin Miller; and two sisters, Vera Ivie and Vergie Coe.

Survivors include one son, Jeffery Jerome Miller and wife Karen of Paragould; two daughters, Betty Smith and husband Ron, and Carol Turberville all of Paragould; three brothers, Dewey Miller and wife Dorcus of Muskegon, Mich., Lewis Miller and wife Winny of Paragould and Jerry Miller of Hammond, Ind.; one sister, Bonnie Poston of Fruitport, Mich.; six grandchildren, Amy McCracken, Angela Barnum, Lisa Doiron, Laura Crow, Edward Miller and Rona Kay Smith; four great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services will be Thursday, April 12th, 11:00 a.m. at the Lake Street Baptist Church in Paragould, with the Rev. Wayne Faulkner and Dr. Terry Wallace officiating.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. A private family interment will follow at Morrow Cemetery in Paragould under the direction of Faith Funeral Service.

Charlcie Lee Berry
 


Charlcie Lee Berry, 94, left this life Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Heritage Living Center in Conway for her new life to come.

She was born January 22, 1918 and lived most of her life at Lorado, AR.

Preceding her in death were her husband "Cotton", her parents Dr. J.D. and Nancy Blackwood, two siblings and their spouses Dennis and Naomi Blackwood and Charles and Ruth Klingensmith.
She is survived by two children Patsy White and Jerry Berry, a daughter-in-law Lavonne Berry, 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 5 nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Monday evening, April 9th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning, April 10th, 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Hills Methodist Church near Lorado with Ken Berry and Kevin Berry officiating with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Roger Dale Griffin
 


Roger Dale Griffin, 67, departed this life peacefully on April 7, 2012 in the loving arms of his family at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Roger was born January 3, 1945 in Batesville, Mississippi to William and Susie Griffin. He loved woodworking and playing the drums. He was a black belt in karate and taught for many years in Helena. He retired from the Kroger Company from which he worked for many years.

He is survived by his wife Linda Dacus Griffin of Walcott, Arkansas, one daughter, Christy Griffin Brown of Olive Branch, Mississippi, five sisters, Sarah Worley of Russellville, Arkansas, Pat Clark (Romey) of Helena, Arkansas, Myrna Pruitt of South Haven, Mississippi, Shirley Burk of Ecru, Mississippi, Linda Webb (Jerry) of Light, Arkansas, two brothers Albert Griffin of Horn Lake, Mississippi, Howard Griffin(Evelyn) of Helena, Arkansas, one grand dog Chloc and his loving companion Shine. He was also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 10th, 10:00 a.m. at the Walcott Baptist Church with Marion Cornett and Sam Stewart officiating, burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the Walcott Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Edwards, Barry Burk, John Griffin, Richard Newberry, Keith Smith, Jim Stewart, J.H. Burton and Harvey Potter.

Dakota Lane Easton
 


Dakota Lane Easton, 15, Paragould, died Sunday April 8, 2012 in Paragould. Dakota was born April 10, 1996 in Paragould. He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Martha Jean Easton, brother, Devin Easton, grandfathers, G.F. Easton and Wayne Heathcock. He was a member of the Ascending Dove, The Little Country Church, had a brown belt in Karate, was a student at Greene County Tech and loved being with his friends.

Survivors include his parents: Christopher and Krystal Easton; sister: Jasmine Easton; grandparents: Ricky and Linda Easton, Beverly Heathcock, all of Paragould; great grandmother: Martha Easton of Jonesboro; uncles, Brandon Easton and George Davis, both of Paragould.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Friends and family will meet at Brown's Chapel Cemetery for graveside services, Thursday, April 12th, 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Earl Fisher officiating.

Brian Keith Griffith
 


Brian Keith Griffith, 52, of Paragould, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital, Memphis.

An Air Force veteran, Mr. Griffith was born July 25, 1959, in Estherville, Iowa. He was an engineer and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Griffith of the home; his father, Keith Griffith and his wife, Bobbi, of Imboden; one son, Nate Griffith of the home; two daughters, Teresa Pfeffer of Pocahontas and Alexis Griffith of the home; and two brothers, Scott R. Griffith of Estherville, Iowa, and Thomas W. Griffith of Lynnwood, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Keith Griffith; and his mother, Betty Griffith.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, 5:00 until 7:00 at the First United Methodist Church of Paragould.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 13th, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Tom Letchworth officiating. Burial will follow in Chesser Cemetery near Pocahontas.

Ruth Hilda Lydia Lange
 


Ruth Hilda Lydia Lange, 89, of Lafe, passed away Monday, April 9, 2012, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Mrs. Lange was born September 23, 1922, in Hooker, Arkansas, to the late Auther and Emma Tritch. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker, and together with her husband farmed and raised Angus cattle. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lafe, and loved attending L.W.M.L and the Women’s Bible Study Group.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Roleson of Paragould, Janet (Berno) Ebbeson of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Doris (James) Shelton of Paragould, and Harriet (Al) Ryan of Lafe; daughter-in-law, Judy Lange of Paragould; brothers, Winston Tritch of Paragould, Gilbert Tritch of Lafe; and sisters, Opal Spellmeyer of St. Louis, Lucille Brasher of Paragould, and Nadine Green of Lafe.

She is also survived by grandchildren, Carol (Kyle) Keiffer, Kindra (Charles) Whitfill, Lara (Chad) Vannest, Jeff Shelton, John (Stacy) Roleson, Emilie (Andy) Ashton, Kara (Jason) Speer, Heather (Nathan) Little, Courtney Floyd, Erica Lange, Josh (Ashley) Lange and Alex Ryan; and by twenty-one great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lange; son, Walter Lange, Jr.; son-in-law, John Ed Roleson; granddaughter, Joni Howell; sisters, Irene Lewis, and Mable Leuker; and brothers, Ervin, Marvin and Leo Tritch.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 12th, 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Curt Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Reba Louise Clayton

 


Reba Louise Clayton, 86, of Paragould, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

She was born November 2, 1926 to Frank and Lula B. Campbell. Mrs. Clayton retired from Emerson Electric and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lloyd Clayton, Nelson and Beverly Clayton, all of Paragould; two daughters nad a son-in-law, Dona Sue McDaniel of Paragould, and Darla and James Watson of Rector. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gary Clayton; three brothers, James, Jerry and Bill Campbell; a sister, Jane Clayton; and a great grandson, Jerry Ryan Vangilder.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Rector.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 13th, 2:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel of Rector, with George Haygood officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Larry Don Parrish
 


Don Parrish, 71 of Rector passed from this life Tuesday April 10, 2012 at his residence. Don was born July 16, 1941 to the late Oval and Annie (Clayton) Parrish in Greene County, and was wed to Cynthia Sue (Shaw) Parrish March 10, 1960 in the White Oak community.
Don loved anything associated with fishing, hunting, or farming, was an avid gardener, and was very involved in church activities at the Cappadocia General Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers; Allie Parrish and Buddy Parrish.

Don is survived by his wife; Sue Parrish of the home, one daughter; Tammy and Hoss Scott of Rector, an adopted son:; Chad Agee of Marmaduke, two brothers; Earl and Linda, Jimmy and Rose Ann all of Marmaduke, one sister; Louise and Richard Viverett of Kentucky, two grandchildren; Ashley and Carl Jones, Hannah Scott all of Rector, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation is to be held Thursday evening, April 12th, 2012 6:00 until 9:00 at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector. A celebration of his life will be Friday April 13th, 2:00 p.m. at the Cappadocia General Baptist Church located at the Neighbors Corner community with Brothers Ronnie Stevens and Dale Walker officiating. Burial following the service at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke.

Lillie Vangilder, 92 of Marmaduke, Arkansas departed this life April 11, 2012 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Arkansas. She was born October 17, 1919 to the late Ralph and Mandy Campbell of Clay County, Arkansas.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Arlie B Vangilder, one brother: Herman Campbell and one sister: Ruby Hazelwood.

Lillie is survived by five sons: Wayne Earl Vangilder and Beverly of St. Charles, Missiouri, Thomas James (Tommy) Vangilder and Judy of Jonesboro, Billy Ray Vangilder and Sandra of Paragould, Arlie Junior (A.J.) Vangilder and Pat of Ferriday, Louisiana, Max Vangilder & Dianne of Monroe, Louisiana, a daughter: Rhonda and Mike Linam of
Wynne, Arkansas. She was also blessed with 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be great missed.

Visitation will begin Saturday, April 14th, at 9:30 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. at the Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke.
Interment will be at the Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Mrs. Hettie Houchin
 


Hettie Houchin, age 70, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born June 13, 1941 at Grenada, MS to David and Velma Malone McKenzie. Mrs. Houchin was a homemaker and a member of the Finch Baptist Church. She loved crafts, reading, playing games and cards.

Mrs. Houchin was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Beuron McKenzie.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Houchin; three daughters, Vicky Hickman, St. Louis, MO, Carolyn Russell, Enid, OK, and Donna Kirby, Paragould; eight grandchildren, Brandon and Jeff Hickman, Brittany Mathis, Justin Ward, Sarah Russell, Meghan Russell, Brandi Sparks and Hunter Bowers; three great grandchildren; five brothers, John McKenzie, Buford McKenzie, Burl McKenzie, Gerald McKenzie, and Bob McKenzie; and three sisters, Eva McKenzie, Norma Kirk, and Janie Bassham.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, 5:00 until 7:00 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington Avenue in Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 15th, 2:00 p.m. at the Finch Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Gage officiating. Burial will follow at Marked Tree Cemetery.

Henry D. Howard, 79 of Paragould died Wednesday at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Henry worked at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in facility Maintenance. He was a Navy veteran and a Mason.

He was preceded by his parents, Henry Alfred and Sophia Belle Hampton Howard; baby sister, Geraldine, brother, Edward and sister, Pauline.
Survivors include ex-wife and true friend, Pat Cosby of Paragould; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and John Pannell of Rowlett, TX; step-son, Scott Noles of Paragould; brother, Harold Howard of Paragould; sisters Bernice Howard of Paragould and Reba Imogene Vandegrift of Tulare, CA; grandchildren John and Julie Pannell; 13 nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be Friday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Graveside Masonic services will be Saturday, April 14th, at 11:00 a.m. at New Friendship Cemetery.

Flora B.Greenway, age 88, of Jonesboro, was born November 5, 1923 and died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born in Jonesboro to John Calvin and Frankie Lee Hopkins Martin. Mrs. Greenway lived in Brookland and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church of Jonesboro.

Mrs. Greenway is preceded in death by her husband, Mack Greenway; her parents; a brother, Marion Martin; a sister, Lora Mae Warnick; two grandsons, James Paul Hardy and Daniel Frederick.

Todd Gray Dudley
January 1, 1958 - April 12, 2012

 


Todd Gray Dudley, a native of Paragould, passed away Thursday at his residence in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Todd Dudley was a wonderful husband, son and friend and loved by many. He had a witty dry sense of humor that always made you laugh and brought a smile to your face. Through his two year battle against cancer, his positive attitude, strength and love of life were a true inspiration to all. He never gave up on living and exceeded the medical expectations time and time again to the surprise of his doctors.

Todd graduated from Paragould High School in Paragould Arkansas and University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. He was a star athlete in high school and college and equally gifted in basketball and football. His favorite activities included watching Razorback football and basketball games, playing golf and enjoying warm days of sunshine outdoors. He was previously an assistant basketball coach at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. He also worked as a district sales manager for Hypertherm selling industrial equipment and won many sales awards in his career. Later, he opened a restaurant in Lafayette called Corky’s Ribs and BBQ. For the past few years, he was a beloved hero to the ladies of the Krewe of Xanadu Mardi Gras Krewe in Lafayette, LA and attended many functions to honor the ladies of this Krewe.
Todd was loved, respected, and admired by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Brantley Dudley of Lafayette; his parents Charles Robert and Jacqueline Gray Dudley of Paragould AR.; two brothers David and his wife Karin Dudley of Paragould AR., and Charles Robert and his wife Martha Dudley II of Hot Springs AR.; his father and mother in law Ellard and Gloria Brantley of Monroe La.; a niece Anna Elise Dudley of Fayetteville AR.; two nephews Robert Dudley of Little Rock AR., and Thomas Dudley of Hot Springs AR; his aunt Marcia Ealy of College Station TX.; and two cousins Marcia “Kit” Carleton of League City TX., and Clark Ealy of College Station TX.
Todd was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents David and Mamie Gray; his paternal grandparents Floyd and Thedoshia “Doty” Dudley; and his uncle Lamar Erly.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 18th, 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel. His life will be celebrated following visitation Wednesday, at 12:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Bill Steeger officiating. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Wava Jeanne Hollis, 86, of Paragould, died Friday, April 13, 2012 at Belle Meade Healthcare.

She was born August 31, 1925, in Goobertown to the late Gilbert F. and Lennie Ethel (Davenport) Robinson. She was a retired real estate agent and a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Winston and Peggy Hollis; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy and Richard Brummett and Carletta Carr; two brothers, John Robinson, Joe Robinson; and two sisters, Wanda Downs and Wilma Horne, all of Paragould. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos W. Hollis; and three brothers, Jack, Jim and Jay Robinson.

Memorial services will be Monday, April 16th, 2:00 p.m. at Linwood Cemetery with Michael Sutton officiating. All friends and family are invited. No visitation is scheduled.

Mr. William F. Bowers, 77, of Corning, AR., passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. Mr. Bowers was born in Knobel, AR. January 31, 1935. He was a retired bridge builder with S. J. Groves Construction Company. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed wood working, fishing and cracking pecans. He was a member of The American Legion, post 643. He was Church of Christ in faith.

He married his wife Nancy Bowers on October 31, 1985. She survives. Other survivors include one son David Bowers and wife Venus of Paragould, AR.; one daughter Myra and husband Dent Burks of Hot Springs, AR.; four grandchildren Steven Bowers, Teresa Gibbons, Matthew and Laura Burks; one great-grandson Jaxon Gibbons.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse E. and Beulah (Bippus) Bowers; three brothers Franklin, Doin and Eugene Bowers.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 17th, 10:00 a.m. in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Sunny Williams officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Green County Memorial Gardens in Paragould, AR. Public visitation will be Monday evening, April 16th, 6:00 until 8:00.

Betty Louise Reeves McDaniel, age 77, entered into rest Friday, April 13, 2012 at her Crystal City residence. Born January 14, 1935, in Paragould, Arkansas, to the late Jesse and Artie Mae (Martin) Reeves. She was employed as a salesperson for Olan Mills and she enjoyed gardening.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Gerald McDaniel; son-in-law, Steve Smith; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Marlue Rhoades Robertson, age 80 of Paragould, Arkansas and a former resident of Gosnell, passed from this life Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Born November 5, 1931 to Charles F. and Elsie Cleo Welch Rhoades in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal Faith. When she was able, Marlue loved cooking and canning. She loved dancing and thoroughly loved to go shopping. Most important in her life was the time she could spend with her family and she would "light up" whenever those grand and great grand children were around.

Marlue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Calvin Robertson; siblings, Bobby Rhoades, Joann Doyle, Ermalie Russ, Bernice Kentrel, Gary Rhoades, Buddy Rhoades; son in law, Ricky Southern and daughter in law, Judy Robertson.

Leonard H. Wall, age 77, of Walnut Ridge, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 29, 1934 to Ezra and Elizabeth (Lizzie)Wall. He was in the land clearing business until he decided to go into farming and raising cattle. When he retired he went to the farm where his boys were working saying that they may need me. He was a member of the Church of Christ and Woodsmen of the World.

Mr. Wall was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Wall, Woodrow Wall, Hancil Wall and Truman Wall; sisters, Grace Cupp, Kathryn Clubb and Jean Sabo.

Mr. Wall is survived by his wife, Maggie Wall and sons, Dean (Debra) Wall and Steve (Christine) Wall; sisters, Clara (Jim) Carroll and Genevieve (Jimmy) Mangrum; grandchildren, Courteney (Josh) Sisk, Caleb Wall, Matthew Wall and Luke Wall.

Frank Buster Rodgers, 93 of Marmaduke passed away April 14, 2012 at the Lakeside Nursing Center. He was born July 7, 1918 to the late Luther and Blanche (Fouts) Rodgers.

Buster was a World Ward II Veteran and was a farmer all of his life.

He is survived by is wife: Martha Jane (Weber) Rodgers, a son and his wife: Danny and Martha Rodgers of Pocahontas, a daughter and her husband: Sue and Aaron Speer of Marmaduke, five grandchildren: Kelley McCormick, Stacey Speer, Kristy Rowe, Tara Young and Ryan Rodgers, 10 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Imogene Winn of Allen, Texas and Geraldine Reddick of Jonesboro.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was his three sisters: Nora Westbrook, Juanita Baker and Ester Rodgers.

Billy Charles Hyde




Billy left this world Saturday, April 14, 2012, to go to his final resting place of peace.

Billy (29 years, 10 months, 11 days) came into this world June 3, 1982. He lived his first 2 years in Paragould and his family moved to Dallas, Texas where he spent the next 5 years followed by a move to Kentucky. Billy lived with his dad, mom and sister in Bardstown, Kentucky until 1993 when they returned to Paragould. Billy attended Greene County Tech and Paragould schools prior to entering the Army (Fort Knox, Kentucky) in 2001. Because of 9/11, he along with 900+ men would not be completing military service because of the lack of training personnel. Billy then returned to Paragould.

He was a former employee of ARI, Marmaduke. Billy was the most avid, obsessed and devoted Kentucky Wildcat ever known living in Arkansas Razorback country.

He was a skilled paintballer. He began playing paintball in late 2011 and loved it. He was a co-captain of the team A.O.K. Thanks to Billy, the team placed 2nd in their first tournament.

Billy was trained in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, drywall hanging, carpet laying, etc. by working alongside his dad.

Billy was preceded in death by his dad, Mike Hyde; uncles, Ronnie and Phil Hyde; paternal grandfather, Billy Gene Hyde; maternal grandparents, Charlie and Willie Cozart; and maternal uncle, Jerry Cozart.

Billy is survived by his wife, Angela (Forbis) of Paragould; son, Jathan Alexander Hyde; daughter, Olivia Love Hyde; and stepdaughter, Allie Smith, all of Paragould; mother, Donna (Cozart) Hyde; and stepfather, Keith Weatherford both of Paragould; one sister, Barbara “Lele” Mackin; brother-in-law, Michael Burton; nephews, Kody Stallings and Mikee Burton; niece, Emily Mackin; and paternal grandparents, Bob and Nina Edrington, all of Bardstown, Kentucky, maternal aunts, Gail (Cozart) and Jerry Austin of Theodosia, Missouri, Rita (Cozart) and Chuck White, and Judy Cozart and Mike Rudi, all of Paragould, paternal aunt, Leigh Ann Barbour of Bardstown, Kentucky, paternal cousins, Shawn and Eric Hyde, maternal cousins, Damon Austin, Sabrina Austin, Teri Lee Hinson, Krissy Bolick and Robert White. Gertrude Garland passed into the presence of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ April 17, 2012. She was born 98 years ago in Cross County, Arkansas. She resided in Greene County for most of her life, where she met and married her husband of 59 years, Joe M. Garland, who predeceased Gertrude in 1990. At that time, she moved to Seattle, Washington area.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David Hackman, her grandson, Jon Treat (wife, Pam) of Michigan, her sister, Sue King of Hot Springs, her brother-in-law, John Garland, of Missouri, as well as her extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends in Arkansas and Washington.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 27th, 11:00 a.m. at Pruett’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Pruett’s Chapel Rd. Mrs. Garland was a member of Pruett’s Chapel Church for more than 60 years. Burial will be at Pruett’s Chapel Cemetery, Finch Road, Paragould.

Rex Alan Bouldin
 



Rex Alan Bouldin, 60, of Paragould, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in Paragould. He was born September 12, 1951 in Searcy, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Osborne Bouldin, and his father, Bradley Elvin Bouldin. Rex was a deacon at St. Mary's Catholic Church and a certified public accountant.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Martin Bouldin of the home; children and grandchildren: Chris and Nena Bouldin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, who are expecting Rex's second grandchild; Eric and Debbie Bouldin and their son Seth; and Ashley Bouldin of Brooklyn, New York; brother, Ray Bouldin of Huntsville, Alabama.

There will be a public rosary Thursday evening, April 19th, at 6:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel. Visitation will follow the Rosary from 6:30 until 9:00. His life will be celebrated Friday, April 19th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Mike Sinkler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

George Stanley Downs, 68, of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012.

He was born March 5, 1944, at Walcott to the late Dolphus and Mavis Downs. Mr. Downs was retired from L.A. Darling and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and wife, Dorthy.

Survivors include three stepsons; two stepdaughters; a brother, David; a sister and brother-in-law, Ava and Leotis Slatton; and niece, Janet (Charles) Pratt.

Visitation will be Friday, April 20th, 10:00 a.m. in Phillips Funeral Home with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Dr. Gary W. Winters Sr., pastor of Jonesboro Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery

Khac Van Huynh, 76, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at his home in Paragould. He was born January 15, 1936 in Vietnam the son of the late Mao Van Huynh and Thi Nguyen. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Khai Huynh and brother, Tuu Huynh. He was a military officer, air conditioning technician and nail technician.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: David and Rachael Huynh; granddaughter: Molly Mai Huynh all of Paragould; son and daughter-in-law: Si Hien Hunh and Ngueng Thi Dung; grandson: Minh Huynh all of Vietnam; daughter: Kim Thoa Thi Huynh; granddaughters: Tran Ngoc Chau and Tran Ngoc Quynh, all of Australia; ex-wife: Kim Dinh Thi Doa; stepsons: Duc Huu Dao, Tien Minh Doa, Nghin Huu Dao, all of Paragould; Phong Than Luong of Vietnam; brothers: Chanh Huynh and Trung Huynh; sisters: Hong Cuc Huynh and Cuc Huynh

Lesa Ann Szerbowski
 


Lesa Ann Szerbowski, 46, of Walnut Ridge died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born December 21, 1965, in Paragould to Sherman and Judy Elliott Pierce and was a longtime area resident. Mrs. Szerbowski was a Nettleton High School graduate and was a cheerleader. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and loved animals.

She is survived by two daughters, Ashley Szerbowski and Stephanie Szerbowski, both of West Bend, WI., her mother, Judy Ann Cagley of Havelock, N.C.; two sisters, Carla Pease of Havelock and Sherma Simpkins of Springdale; a brother, Michael Pierce of Havelock; and her grandmother, Martha Burchard of Manila.

Mrs. Szerbowski also leaves nine nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services will be Saturday, April 21st, 1:00 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Faith Funeral Service in Manila. The family has requested a private disposition under the direction of the funeral service.

Marvin Ray Crews
 



Marvin Ray “Poppy” Crews, 73, of Paragould, formerly of Kennett, passed from this life, Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at his home.

Ray, son of the late Vernon and Mable Crews was born March 4, 1939, in Holland, Missouri. He was a member of Browns Chapel Baptist Church, Paragould.

Mr. Crews proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps. After discharge from the military, he spent a career working for the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a construction inspector in the Caruthersville, Missouri, Area Office of the Memphis District.

During his life Mr. Crews was an avid outdoorsman who loved to spend time hunting and fishing with friends and family. He also loved to travel and spent many days exploring the country and meeting new people.

Mr. Crews is survived by his wife, Judith Bishop Crews of Paragould; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Carla Powell Crews; and two grandsons, Ed and Blake Crews, all of Salem, Arkansas. Other survivors include one brother, Ronnie Crews of Benton, Arkansas; three sisters, Linda Crews Cecil of Steele, Missouri, Doris Crews Wimberly and Mary Crews, both of Memphis; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Crews was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Adron Crews, David Dee Crews, and Wayne Crews.

Mr. Crews had a deep love for his family and extended family. He will be missed by many and leaves a legacy of love as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, in-law, and friend. He will be most remembered as a faithful man of God.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. Funeral services will be Friday, April 20th, 10:00 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Royce Boling officiating.

Zane Gray

 

Zane Gray, 86, passed away peacefully April 18, 2012 shortly after suffering a heart attack. He was born in Bradford, AR April 9, 1926 to Ernest and Etta Gray. His greatest gifts were his giving spirit, affection for the land, love for the Gospel and commitment, love and generosity for his family.

He served in active duty in the United States Army during World War II in Germany from 1944 through 1946 as a member of the Fighting 69th Infantry.

He was a long-time business owner in Tuckerman, AR, owning gas stations then an auto repair shop and wrecker service. While attending the Tuckerman Church of Christ he made the decision to become a full-time minister and moved to Piggott, AR in 1974 to pursue that calling for the Westside Church of Christ. In 1977, he moved to Paragould, AR to preach for the 7th & Main Church of Christ until 1986, now the Village Creek Church of Christ where he served as an elder. In 1986 he founded and served as President and CEO of Arkansas Apartment Builders, specializing in multi-family dwellings but also contracting many single residence homes throughout the State.

He was a long-time member of the Paragould Happy Trails Riding Club and earned his 15-year belt buckle for the Cross County Trail Ride in Eminence, MO.

Having been named after the famous Western author, Zane Grey, he developed a keen interest in the author’s writings and life and became an avid reader and collector of the books. He also became an active member of the Zane Gray West Society and for many years traveled across the country to historical sites to attend the annual convention.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Zelma; three children, Janie (Kenny) White of Maplevale, AR, Gary (Pam) Gray of Little Rock and Susie (Bill) Ellwood of McLean, VA; six grandchildren, Erica (Robert) Jensen of Siloam Springs, AR, Denise Pearson of Jacksonville, AR, Philip (Lindsey) Gray of Little Rock, Casey Miles of Lansing, MI, Brittany (Kevin) Smith of Little Rock and Grayson Miles of Chicago, IL; six great-grandchildren, Darby and Shelby Jensen; Devin, Cedric and Granger Pearson; Braden Smith. He is also survived by one sister, Neva (Ed) Holt of Newport, AR and one brother, Jack Gray of Fort Worth, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joan Rooks.

Visitation will be Friday evening, April 20th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 2307 W. Kingshighway, Paragould, AR 72450. Services will be held at the funeral home Saturday, April 21st, 10:00 a.m. Graveside services and burial will take place at Maple Springs Cemetery, between Oil Trough and Rosie on Highway 14 (4225 Newport Road, Rosie, AR) at 2:00 p.m.

John Willis McKenzie

 

John Willis McKenzie, 89, of Paragould, AR, passed away, Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at his home. He was born April 30, 1922 in Paragould, the only child of the late John Harold and Elizabeth Brown McKenzie.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Jane Schreit McKenzie of the home; daughter: Ann McKenzie Noland and husband, Brian Noland of Keller, TX; grandchildren: John Paul McKenzie Noland and Emily Catherine Noland; sister-in-law: Mary Ann Schreit of Paragould; brother-in-law: Joe Tannehill of Panama City, Florida, several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to wonderful caregivers and friends, Mary Damron, Tina Weston, Kat Garner, Cynthia Presson, Christie Burnside, Marsha Baker and Dierkson Hospice.

A World War II Veteran, he served in the 8th Air Force, 96th Bomb-group. He flew 17 missions as a bombardier. He was an Eagle Scout, avid hunter and fisherman, but he loved golf. He served his community as Chamber of Commerce President, First United Methodist Church Administrative Board, United Way Chairman, Arkansas Methodist Hospital Board Chairman, and local businessman as co-owner of White Printing, Inc.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 21st, 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. His life will be celebrated following visitation Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Leslie officiating.

William Scott King, 26, passed away Saturday, in Pocahontas.

He was preceded in death by his mother Tammy Owens, grandfather William Bud King, grandma Sherry Cunningham, grandfather Charlie Gipson, Aunt Julie Duncan and Uncle Donnie Cunningham.

He is survived by his wife Candy King of the home, his father William Terry King of Ravenden Springs and his grandmother Ruth King also of Ravenden Springs.

He was a loving caring husband and a friend to many that will be truly missed.

Etta Morie Archibald, was born November 4, 1921, and went to be with Jesus Saturday, April 21, 2012. She was a homemaker and a member of Lake Street Baptist Church in Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hurchel Archibald; father and mother, Harvey and Addie Cole; 22 of her brothers and sisters; one grandchild, Sonny Sims; 1 great grandchild, Patrick Sims; one son-in-law, Wayne Carrell.

Survivors include her children; Ann (Sissy) Carrell of Paragould, Judy and Danny Shields of Lafe, Harvey and Sue Archibald of Brookland, Debbie and Brant Crow of Pocahontas, Gary and Kacey Archibald and Tracy and Ellen Archibald all of Paragould. 18 grandchildren and their spouses, 30 great grandchildren and their spouses, three great, great grandchildren; brother, H. N. Cole of Union City, TN, as well as many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be Monday evening, 5:00 until 9:00 at Heath Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Don Williams; parents, Herman Earl and Dessie Jane Cole Williams; 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

David McNeil Williams, 84, of Beech Grove passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

He was born December 9, 1927, at Beech Grove to Jones and Sybil Cooper Williams. He was a retired farmer, retiree of Tenneco Automotive and an Army veteran.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Beech Grove High School and a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, the Rev. Don Williams and infant Lowell, and sister-in-law, Roella Williams.

Survivors include the mother of his three sons, Jean Williams; three sons, David (Mary) Williams, Danny (Sandy) Williams and Dennis Williams; a brother and sister-in-law, Moyl and Pud Williams; seven grandchildren, Shane, Dustin and Michael Williams, Mackenzie Fisher and Chasidy Stanley, all of Paragould, Estaban Williams of San Diego and Amy Reed of Jonesboro; 10 great-grandchildren, Gracie, Audrey, Tristin, Caden, Brianna and Clayton Williams, Will Fisher and Justin Stanley, all of Paragould, Chloe and Berkley Reed of Jonesboro; many beloved nieces and nephews; along with a special canine friend “Jack.”

Norman Jay Reeves
(October 3, 1958 - April 23, 2012)



Norman Jay Reeves, 53, of Paragould, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, after a short battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debbie Reeves of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeremiah and Erica Reeves of Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri; and daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Chris Shelby of Clearfield, Utah. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Reeves of Kennett; sisters, Norma Reeves of Beech Grove, and Junetta Becker of Paragould; and by his godson, Donnie Ray Smith III.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Doris Reeves; and by his sister, Charlia Reeves.

Norman enlisted in the Army and served proudly with the 101st Airborne Division in Operations Just Cause, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm. Upon retirement from military service in 1997, he moved back home to Paragould and was currently working at KNL Holdings as purchasing manager. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 26th, 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with L. R. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 9:30 a.m. prior to services.

Jeremiah Reeves, Raymond Reeves, Chris Shelby, Donnie Smith, Ed Flinn, Phil Williams, Greg Middleton, and John Reilly will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Nuckles and Kolton Douglas.

Paul Eugene Hunt, 91 of Paragould died Wednesday at Belle Meade Nursing Center. Paul was of the Church of Christ belief and was a retired used car dealer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hunt; parents William C. and Allie King Hunt; brother, Billy Joe Hunt.

Survivors include his son, Stan Hunt of Paragould; brothers, Carroll Hunt of High Ridge, MO and Kenny Hunt of Brookfield, FL; sisters, Athol Adams of Morrilton, AR, Kathyrn Brents of Paragould, and Carolyn Gill of Nunnan, GA.

Lenora “Tooter” Smith passed into the presence of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ April 25, 2012. She was born 81 years ago to the late Marion and Bertha Welch.
She resided in Greene County all of her life, where she met and married her husband of 61 years, Billy “Big Joe” Smith, who preceded her in death in January 2012. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Titus Welch, Charles Welch, Maurice Welch, Drusilla Boling, Irwauna W. “Pud” Haun and son-in-law Terry Hedge.

She is survived by her children, Jeff and Frankie Smith, Gail Hedge, Jina and Gary Henson, Gigi and Jerry Wilson all of Paragould, AR. She was also a very loving grandmother of seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was a member of Commissary Church of Christ for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Oliva Merita Yarbrough, 89, of Corning, AR., passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR. Mrs. Yarbrough was born in Pratt, MO., June 29, 1922. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with grandchildren. She was a member of the Corning Church of Christ.

She married her husband Tony Yarbrough on June 9, 1945, he preceded her in death November 11, 2011.

She is survived by one daughter Vicki and husband Gene Emery of Paragould, AR.; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tony Yarbrough; parents Walter and Bertha (Dalton) Upshaw; and one son Jim Yarbrough.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 28th, 10:00 a.m. in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Friday evening, April 27th, 6:00 until 8:00.

Juanita Wyatt

 


Juanita Wyatt, 94, of Paragould, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Born February 18, 1918, in Lepanto, she was co-owner of Wyatt’s Furniture. Mrs. Wyatt attended the New York School of Interior Design and Arkansas State College. She was a member of the D.A.R., and of the First United Methodist Church. She loved playing the piano and played for her church. She was also active in Belles and Beaus.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, John and Bonnie Wyatt of Paragould, Rick and Sandy Wyatt of Jonesboro, and Sarah Wyatt of Pocahontas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Courtney (Lane) McMurry, J.R. (Shay) Wyatt, David (Julie) Wyatt, Richard Wyatt, and Stephanie Wyatt; and four great grandchildren, David Allen Wyatt, Jr., Connor and Cohen McMurry, and Kaley Wyatt

Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sally Chunn; her husband, William A. Wyatt, Jr.; one brother, Calvin Ellsworth Chunn; two sons, James David Wyatt, and Dr. William Calvin Wyatt; one grandson, Matthew Wyatt; and one great granddaughter, Claire Vivian Wyatt.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 28th, 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould with Bill Leslie officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday 9:30 a.m. until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home.

David Wyatt, Richard Wyatt, John Robert Wyatt, Lane McMurry, Dick Pace, and Don Sanders will serve as pallbearers.

Georgia "Ann" Rawls
 



Georgia ”Ann” Rawls, 77 died Thursday April 26, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born April 8, 1935 in Delaplaine to C.E. and Tennie Belle Copeland Rawls. She was a resident of Lawrence County and a homemaker. She was of the Church of Christ belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Willard Rawls; two sisters, Mary Fossett and Bernice Fossett.

She is survived by one sister, Barbara Jones of Florida; nieces, Michelle Eubanks of Paragould, Kelly Jones of Delaplaine, Stacey Lee of Bono; nephews, Morgan Rawls of Delaplaine, Tim Lamb of Bono, Tony Lamb of Florida, Jason Lamb of Jonesboro; 14 great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Monday, April 30th, 10:00 a.m. in Beech Grove Cemetery with Rick Etheridge officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers: Steve Wilson, Mike Wilson, Dalton Lee, Tim Lamb, Malcom Rawls and Arrow Rawls.

Bill Junior Abbott



Bill Junior Abbott, 74, of Paragould passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1938 in Grays Ridge, MO to James and Dora Abbott.

He is leaving behind a loving wife of twenty two years, Carolyn J. Abbott of the home; three sons, Leslie Abbott, Danny Abbott both of Paragould and Morgan Abbott of Hoxie, AR; one daughter, Tammy Nelson of Paragould; four stepchildren, Pamela Gillespie of Prattsville, AR, Jeffrey Chandler of Saginaw, Tx, Tracy Chandler of North Little Rock, AR, and Brian Chandler of Paragould; four sisters, Geraldine Rose, Imogene Huffine, Christine Halsel, and Debra Jones all of Paragould. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, David Abbott of Paragould; five brothers, Claude Abbott of Lonoke, AR, Cletus Abbott, Frank Abbott, Johnny Abbott, and Bobby J. Abbott all of Paragould.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 29th, 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. in the Phillips Funeral Home chapel with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship Cemetery.

Mrs. Kathleen Clifford Rogers
 



Kathleen Clifford Rogers, 89 of Paragould, formerly of Rector passed away April 27, 2012 at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital.

She was born July 9, 1922 to the late Henry and Nell (Pearson) Montgomery in Clay County, Arkansas. She owned flower shops in Rector and Kennett for a number of years and was President of Arkansas Florist. She was a Feature Designer and taught design Schools from Boston, Massachusetts to Texas and all of the East Coast.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents: were her husbands: Jack Clifford, Bob Talbert and Myron Rogers and her brothers: Cloyce and Wayne Montgomery and one sister: Lucille Holifield.

Surviving Kathleen is a daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Jerry Winn of Lafe, two granddaughters: Tammy and Joe Higgins of Columbus, Mississippi, Teia and Richard Burks of Marmaduke, three Great-grandchildren: Hanna Higgins, Cory Burks and Victoria Burks and a great- great- granddaughter: Veronica James.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, April 28th, 6:00 until 8:00 at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector. Funeral Services will be Sunday, April 29th, 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Mace Straubel officiating.
Interment will be at the Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Lindy Wayne Highfill
October 3, 1948 - April 28, 2012

 

Lindy Wayne Highfill, 63 of Ozark Acres, formerly of Paragould, died Saturday at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. Lindy was a retired car dealer, avid fisherman and hunter.
He was preceded in death by this mother, Lola Barron Highfill and father, Bruce Highfill.

Survivors include his wife, Evah Hyde Highfill of Ozark Acres, AR; son, Chad Highfill of Paragould; step-daughter, Tina Connelly of Paragould; brother, Don Highfill; sisters, Bonnie Wyatt and Beverly Biggs all of Paragould. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 30th, 1:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Bill Snow officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Juanita Dennis
 



Juanita Dennis, 84, of Paragould, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Juanita was born July 25, 1927 in Beech Grove, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Tom Eric and Alma May Melton Dennis. She was retired from Arkansas State University as a Janitor and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law: Wendell Dennis, Sr. and Netha; sister-in-law: Mildred Dennis, all of Paragould; nieces and nephews: Charles Dennis, Audrea King, Debbie Snyder, Rickey Dennis, Derhonda Lindsay, Tammy Brady and several great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated Wednesday, May 2nd, 10:00 a.m. Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Sam Stewart officiating.

Leland Stanfill

 

Leland "Grampsie" Stanfill, 74, of Paragould, went to be with Jesus Sunday, April 29, 2012. He was born February 5, 1938 in Paragould to Fred and Mary Jane Dillon Stanfill.
He was ordained as a deacon on August 22, 1982 at Center Hill Baptist Church. He has been a member and deacon of Browns Chapel Baptist Church for the past 24 years. He worked for Emerson Electric for 11 years, then owned and operated his own dump truck for 29 years. Since retirement he has enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, especially his three great grandsons, and working with NEATS.
He was a devoted husband, daddy, and Grampsie.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Orvil and Carlton "T".
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Thelma Yates Stanfill, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rick Ward; two granddaughters and spouses, Stacie and Andy Landrum and Amber and Bobby Farmer, three great grandsons, Luke Landrum and Camden and Benton Farmer. He is also survived by three brothers, Euel, Carl and Junior Stanfill and one sister, Carolyn Winn and a host of other friends and relatives, and a lifelong friend, Bill Pillow.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, May 2nd, 1:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel, with Reverend Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Kevin Eddings, Joe Lane, Gary Lewis, Don Russell, David Stanfill and Tim Williams. The family requests memorials be made to Browns Chapel Baptist Church or the Greene County Relay for Life.

Carl Ross Dodds
 


Carl Ross Dodds, 85, passed away April 29, 2012 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. He was born January 3, 1927 at Oak Grove, AR to Ballard and Winnie Dodds. He was an Army veteran of World War II and Vietnam, liked to fish and play bingo and was a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Regina Suprenant; son-in-law, Buzz Robinson, one brother, Lige Dodds and one sister, Martha Mae Dodds.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Dodds of the home; one daughter, Linda Robinson of California; three step-sons, Denny, Gary and Steven McKay; one sister, Winnie Harper; four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and eleven step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 1st, 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Royce Boling officiating.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Rector.

Pallbearers are Charles Noel, Steve McKay, Brad Thomas, Mike Short, Mark Thomas and Bobby McKay.

Shirley Sue Adams
 


Shirley Sue Adams of Paragould passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born January 25, 1937 to the late Ell and Mary (Ritzman) McMillon. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a member of the Rosewood Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Cora Mae McMillon and Demondra McMillon.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Tina Adams; one daughter and son-in-law, Leah and John Everett, all of Paragould; one brother, Jimmy McMillon; four sisters, Louise Wennings, Anna Faye Frazier, Elwanda Meadows and Pat Stallcup; and four grandchildren, Joshua Everett, Calen Everett, Austin Adams, and Carson Adams.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, May 1st, 6:00 until 8:00 at Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 2nd, 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church with John Everett and Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow the service at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery

Richard Arvel Matheny

 

Richard Arvel Matheny, 88, of Paragould, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at Heritage Gardens Nursing Home in Senath, Missouri.

Born January 25, 1924, in Rector, he was a retired farmer. He had also worked at Children’s Homes at Morrilton and Paragould, at Crowley’s Ridge College, Crowley’s Ridge Academy and after retirement, did carpentry work. Mr. Matheny was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva (Hancock) Matheny; his parents, George and Burley (Estes) Matheny; one brother, Everette “Rip” Matheny and one son-in-law, Donnie Cox.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Tony Hardin and Glenda and Larry Betts, all of Paragould, and one daughter, Peggy Fitzgerrel of Little Rock; one sister, Dorothy Whitworth of Baytown, Texas; and two brothers, James Matheny of Paragould, and Wayne Matheny of Ravenden.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Richie, Jackson, Darrea, Amanda, Jesse, Jennifer and Heather; the father of Darrea, Amanda and Jesse, Darrell Ford; great grandchildren, Olivia, Brian, Phoebe, Brittney, Geneva, Alex, Amber, Stephanie, and Tristan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 4th, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Cox and Randy Matheny officiating. Burial will follow in Purcell Cemetery.

Alfred Jefferson Holland Sr.
 


Graveside services for Alfred J. Holland Sr. will be held at Holland Cemetery on May 3rd, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Charles Duvall officiating. The Cherokee Lodge #10 will perform the Masonic Funeral Rite. Services are under the direction of Reed-Culver funeral Home of Tahlequah.


Alfred J. Holland was born October 23rd, 1936 in Woodall, OK the son of James M. and Bessie (Pruitt) Holland. He attended school at Tahlequah High School and graduated, attending college at Tulsa. where he obtained his Masters Degree in Law.. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge. Alfred was an accomplished Lawyer and owned his own title company in Missouri. He loved people and served the needs of people for his entire working career. When he wasn't working, Alfred enjoyed time spent in the garden raising beautiful vegetables and used his own produce to bake the best lasagna you ever tasted. The simple things in life were of value to Alfred. The time spent chatting with family and friends over a cup of coffee were treasured moments. He adored his family, devoting hour to his son Jeff and his grandson, A.J. Alfred was a member of the Masonic Temple and was a 32 degree Mason, and attained the Shriner degree as well. He showed great devotion to anything he put his mind to do. He was loving, kind, and compassionate. Alfred passed from this life on April 30th, 2012 in Mountain Home, AR with his family by his side. He was 75 years old. Alfred will be greatly missed by his family for the love he gave them and his many friends will miss his smile and wonderful sense of humor.


Alfred is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Those left to cherish Alfred's memory include his son, Jeff Holland and wife Raelene of Mountain Home, AR. He leaves one brother and two sisters, Manuel Holland and wife Jimmie of Tahlequah, OK, Vera Myers and husband Jerry of Miami,OK, and Jane Howes of Fess, OK. His legacy lives on in his grandson, A.J. Holland III of Paragould , AR as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
