Garlon M. Hays

 

Garlon M. Hays, 74, of Atoka, TN, formerly of Paragould, passed away Saturday April 2, 2011 at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.
Garlon was born June 22, 1936, he was a retired cabinet builder and a former employee of Firestone Tire & Rubber in Memphis and of the Nazarene belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Charlie and Elva Grooms Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hays of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Lisa Hays of Bartlett, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Joel Bramlitt of Collierville, TN. Grandchildren, Megan Wylie and husband Brian, Zach Hays, Kristen Bramlitt and Kasey Bramlitt; great grandchild, Hays Wylie.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 6th, 11:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Marion Gramling officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Charles Curtis O'Dell



Charles Curtis O’Dell, 89, passed away Monday, April 4, 2011 at his residence in Spring Branch, Texas.

Mr. O’Dell was born January 16, 1922, in Walcott and was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Robert and Cathy O’Dell of Spring Branch; and three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kathleen Lankford of Dallas, Texas, Sharon Ann and John Mathews of New Harmony, Indiana, and “Stacy” Elizabeth Eileen and Danny Nowlin of Sherman, Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lauren, Mary, Jamie, Becky, Mike, Jennifer, George and Robin; three step grandchildren, Melissa, Johnny, and David; along with many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary O’Dell in 2008, his parents, Robert Lee and Gladys Stewart O’Dell, and by two brothers, Robert Lee “R. L.” O’Dell and Samuel Hoyt “Buster” O’Dell.

A celebration of Charles’ and Mary’s lives will be held Friday, April 8th, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Sam Stewart officiating.

The family would like to thank Don Lambert and the staff at Mitchell Funeral Home, Elvira Puentes (caretaker) and the many Hospice workers for their care of Dad and Mom.

Jackie T. Roy



Jackie T. Roy, 77, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2011at his home.

Jackie was born October 12, 1933 in Paragould the son of the late Jess and Daisey Roy. He was a graduate of Oak Grove High School in 1954. Jackie spent many years in Rockford, Illinois and was employed by Ispen Industries and returned to Paragould after retirement about 17 years ago.

He is survived by his daughters: Vickie (Jim) Manthei of Roscoe, IL, Jackquline Roy of Rockford, IL; sisters: Bernice Morton of Paragould, Bonnie Black of Jonesboro, brother: J. L. (Wanda) Roy of Paragould; grandsons: James (Nikki) Manthei, Joseph Manthei, great-grandchild: Austin Manthei and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation Saturday, April 9th, 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Heath Funeral Home with burial immediately following at New Friendship Cemetery.

J.R. Richard Jackson



J. R. "Dick" Richard Jackson. 97, a retired Pocahontas banker, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Mr. Jackson was born April 29, 1913 in Paragould to the late A.W. and Jennie Lightle Jackson. After graduation from Paragould High School, he earned degrees from New Mexico Military Institute, the University of Chicago, the University of Arkansas and Yale University. He also graduated from the LSU School of Banking. He was a Civil Engineer in his early working years, and operated Sallee Bros. Handle Factory in Pocahontas from 1945 to 1958. He spent 35 years as an Officer and Director of Bank of Pocahontas, retiring from banking in 1990. Jackson was also involved in rice, soybean and Angus cattle farming through ownership of farm land in Randolph County.

Dick, as he was affectionately known, was actively involved in a wide variety of civic and community affairs. He served on the Pocahontas School Board, was Chairman of the Pocahontas Water Commission for 25 years, served as President of the Pocahontas Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow, was an organizer of the Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas and served for 10 years as that organization’s first treasurer. He joined the Pocahontas First United Methodist Church in 1952, and had been an active member holding many offices and teaching Sunday School.

Dick was an avid golfer who played regularly into his early 90's. He was also an ardent Razorback enthusiast who believed that the Razorback’s chances of winning were lessened if he did not wear red on game days. By far his favorite activity was anything involving his family. The thing he disliked the most about being in his 90's was the inability to play on the floor with his great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Genevieve Sallee Jackson of Pocahontas; two sons, John Jackson & wife Mary and Raymond Jackson & wife Ginger all of Pocahontas; daughters Sue Gibson & husband Danny of Walnut Ridge and Lucy Jordan & husband Steve of Searcy. Also surviving are seven grandchildren & spouses; Caroline & David Morgan of Conway, Laura & Blake Whitley of Hot Springs, Elizabeth & Wade Williams of Fayetteville, Jeff & Allison Hatfield, Emily & Grant Cox and Alice Ann Jordan all of Little Rock and Genny & Porter Montgomery of Dallas, Texas. Eleven great grandchildren are Clair & Paige Whitley, Matthew, Jackson & Henry Cole, Jessica & John David Morgan, Meredith & Garrett Hatfield and John & Charlie Montgomery. In addition he is survived by three step grandchildren, Mike Miller of Pocahontas, Sloane Kelley and Shannon Cox of Walnut Ridge along with ten step great grandchildren Mary Katherine & Payton Miller, Cameron, Barrett, John-Scott & Caroline Kelley, Andrew Smith, Abbey Cox and Lucy & Leslie Williams. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Rebecca Luck and brother, Bill Jackson.

Visitation will be Friday evening, April 8th, 5:00 until 7:00 in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas. Services will be held Saturday, April 9th, 11:00 a.m. with Rockey Starnes officiating in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Jeff Hatfield, Blake Whitley, David Morgan, Mike Miller, Porter Montgomery, Grant Cox, and Wade Williams.

Yvonne McDonald



Yvonne McDonald, 65, of Kennett, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett, MO. Born May 15, 1945, in Paragould, AR., daughter of the late Noah and Vida Bryson Dortch, she was retired from the winding department at Emerson Electric, and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Kennett.

On September 24, 1966, in Paragould, she married Gary McDonald.

Survivors include her husband, Gary McDonald, of Kennett, MO., one son, Brian McDonald and wife, Emily, of Cardwell, MO., two daughters, Tabitha Neighbors and husband, Gary, of Kennett, and Lisa Dean, of DuQuoin, IL., two brothers, Larry Dortch and wife, Cindy, and J.W. Dortch and wife, Betty, all of Paragould; three grandchildren, Jeremy Hyde, of Kennett, Allison Dean, of DuQuoin, and Bryson Neighbors, of Kennett; a step-grandson, Josh Neighbors; a special sister-in-law, Carletta Boggs and husband, Leonard, of Kennett, and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, R.L. and Lavoy Dortch, and one sister, Imogene Causby.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, April 7th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8th, 2:00 p.m., at Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dale Rickman and Bro. Danny Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Pallbearers are Jeremy Hyde, Brad Bauer, Larry Dortch, Leonard Boggs, Marty Cato and Curtis Dortch.

Honorary pallbearers are Bryson Neighbors, Allison Dean, J.W. Dortch, Bob Holder and Gary Neighbors.

Kayley Dare Bell



Kayley Dare Bell, 17 of Rector passed away Thursday, April 6, 2011 at Rector. She was born September 16, 1993 to Shawn and Robin Bell at Paragould, Arkansas.

Preceding Kayley in death was her grandfather: Darrell Holifield.

She is survived by her mother: Robin (Holifield) Bell of Rector, her father: Shawn Bell of Caruthersville, Missouri, a sister: Lyndsey Bell of Jonesboro, her boyfriend: Caleb Holcomb of Rector, grandparents: Mary Bell and Jim Hestbeck of Senath, Missouri, Lonnie Bell of Florida, Roberta Holifield of Columbia, Missouri, her great-grandmother: Virginia Norris of Shelbyville, Indiana along with numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 9th, 10:00 a.m. at the gymnasium in Rector with Kim Bridges officiating. Interment will be at the Woodland Heights Cemetery. Visitation begins Friday evening at 6:00 at the gymnasium.

Arien Sakara Henderson passed from this life Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. She was born April 6, 2011 to Steven and Jeamini Henderson of Paragould, AR.

Edith Marie Friar



Edith Marie Friar, 89, of Paragould, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1920 the daughter the late William Monroe "Mon" and Minnie Russom Grooms. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Paul Friar, sons, Johnny Earl and J.W. Friar and James Henry Butler, sisters, Bessie Wren, Mable Smith, Elva Hayes, Mayo Garner, Zelma Crossno, brothers, Lester and Jessie Grooms. She was a homemaker and of Baptist belief.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law: Sandra and Dewayne Watson, Jenny and Eddie Weatherford; sons and daughters-in-law: J.M. and Sue Friar, Jerry and Kim Friar, all of Paragould; daughter-in-law and her husband: Glenda and Robert Parten; sister: Evelyn Davis of Paragould; brothers: Elmer Grooms of Nashville, TN, Hulen Grooms of Mayflower; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and fifteen great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at Heath Colonial Chapel, Sunday, April 10th, 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dale Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Gary Cleff Venema
 



Gary Cleff Venema, 68, of Paragould passed away Friday, April 8, 2011. He was born May 19, 1942 at Hudsonville, MI. to Sidney and Jeanette Venema. His friends knew him as ‘’Yankee”. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jerry W. Venema.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Louise (Collins) Venema of the home; two brothers, Sherwin Venema of Bitely, MI., Alton Venema of Hudsonville, MI.; one son, Gary Venema; one daughter, Vicki Venema both of Grand Jct. MI.; two step daughters, Rene Wogoman of Paragould, Rachel Harmon of Holland, MI.; one step son, Barry Crowder of Pullman, MI.; eighteen grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home followed by service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor John Snyder officiating.

Floyd James Scott



Floyd James “Frank” Scott, 71 of Rector passed from this life on April 8, 2011 at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. He was born September 21, 1939 to the late Jim (Bill) and Carolina (Householder) Scott at Rector, Arkansas.

Preceding Frank was his parents and his sister: Anna Adams.

He was survived by his wife: Barbara Scott, his children and grandchildren, three brothers:
Bob Scott of Rector, Bill Scott of Teuceusek, Missouri, John Scott of Rector, five sisters: Rose Champion of Rector, June Stevenson of
Rector, Bettie Lipps of Rector, Sally Troy of Rockford, Illinois, and Judy Williams of Roscoe, Illinois along with a host of other relatives and friends.

William Roberts



William "Bill" Roberts, 85 of Marmaduke passed from this life on April 9, 2011 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born September 1, 1925 to the late Charles and Edith (Wamble) Roberts in Idalia, Missouri. Mr. Roberts was a member of the Marmaduke First Baptist Church. He spent 45 years with the Cotton Belt railroad company, and also worked as a plumber.

Preceding Bill in death was his wife: Wilma Mae (Houston) Roberts; a son: Luke Roberts; two sisters: Louise Sitz, Ella Rasberry; and a brother: Harold Roberts

He is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law: Kenny and Rhonda Roberts of Jacksonville, AR, Rick Roberts of Marmaduke, and Terry Roberts of Paragould, one daughter and son-in-law: Diane and Lanny Street of Paragould, two brothers and sister-in-laws: Jerry and Sandy Roberts of St. Charles, MO, and Gary and Ann Roberts of Paragould, one sister and brother-in-law: Norma and George Kiestler of Cordova, TN., and a sister-in-law: Ruth Roberts, eight grandchildren and their spouses: Kelly and Lindsey Roberts of Little Rock, Kim and Brad Reese of Marmaduke, Jeremy and Kendra Street of Paragould, Jeremy and Melissa Roberts of Vilonia AR, Brad and Christy Osborn of Rector, Jana Street of Paragould, Quincy and Lindsay Roberts of Paragould and Justin Roberts of Marmaduke, eight great-grandchildren: Blane Murray, Dalton Murray, Colton Reese, Cayden Reese, Jillian Osborn, Liam Roberts, Jack Roberts, and Landon Street, a very special friend: Frankie Arant, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Judith Bolick



Judith Cheryl Bolick, 66, of Marmaduke, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, in Rector. Judith was born April 24, 1944 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Judith loved reading, bowling and was a retired legal secretary. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband; James Bolick of the home; daughter: Shannon Muscat of Tujunga, CA; mother: Delphia Neely Richards; stepdaughters: Angela Bolick of Nashville, TN, Sandra Maslin of Sacramento, CA; brother: Robin Richards of Calabasas, CA; grandchildren: Claire and Carson Muscat. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Thompson.

Her life will be celebrated at St. John's Lutheran Church Saturday, April 16th, 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Curt Dwyer officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery.

Stephen Neal Whitlatch



Stephen Neal Whitlatch, 54 of Truman passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at his home. He was born December 13, 1956. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Truman.

Stephen was a graduate from Paragould High school in 1975 and attended Arkansas State College.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Whitlatch and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Yarbrough Sr.; one brother, Jon Thomas Whitlatch in 1982.

He is survived by his wife Marlo Whitlatch; parents, Neal O. and Nina Whitlatch; one brother, Todd Dale Whitlatch; three sons, Brandon Senaca, Johnathan Neal and James Whitlatch.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 24th, 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Paragould.

Jack McKelvey



Jack D. McKelvey, 58, Paragould, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, in Corning. He was born April 25, 1952 in Greene County the son of Barbara Jean Smith McKelvey and the late Earl McKelvey. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Aaron Barnhardt. Jack loved drag racing and has many friends throughout the racing community. He also played semi-pro baseball, worked at Emerson Electric and Battery Parts Warehouse and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother: Barbara McKelvey of the home; sister: Cindy Barnhardt of Alma; brothers: Tim McKelvey of Paragould, David McKelvey of Farmington, MO; nieces and nephews: Joshua Barnhardt, Jordan Barnhardt, Shannon McKelvey Ellington, Nathan McKelvey, Miranda McKelvey, Ryan Tyler McKelvey.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated Wednesday April 13th, 11:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverends Kim Bridges and Tommy Timms officiating with burial following at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Charles Allen Kent



Charles Allen Kent 71, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. He was born January 11, 1940 to Raymond and Ruth Kent at Ladoga, IN. Charles was a member of South Side Baptist Church. He enjoyed making home movies.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother Gene Kent.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Kay Kent of the home; one son, Kirby and Amanda Kent of Paragould; one daughter, Kathy and Gary Price; one brother, Mike Kent; one sister, Melody Pippin all of Indianapolis, ID.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to South Side Baptist Church of Paragould.

Thomas Daniel Yearry
 


Thomas Daniel Yearry, 52, of Paragould passed away April 12, 2011 at his home. Born June 12, 1958, at Paris, Tenn., he was the son of Jesse and Bobby Jones Yearry and had been a longtime Paragould resident. He enjoyed working on cars and was of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by his mother, Bobby Yearry of Paragould; son, Mark Wade of Michigan; daughter, Karen Loyd of Paragould; brother, Michael Yearry of Flint, Mich.; and sister, Vickie Yearry of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Barry Yearry; and sister, Angela Stahl.

Graveside services will be Monday, April 18th, 2:00 p.m. at Pine Knot Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Kelems officiating. Faith Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Sandra Hunter Sisson



Sandra Hunter Sisson, 58, of Paragould, passed away April 13, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould. She was born August 31, 1952 in Jonesboro and had lived her life in northeast Arkansas. She loved to knit and sew and loved to travel.

She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, John Sisson of the home; son, Chad Edward Sisson, grandson, John Pope, Bay; brothers, Bill D. (Johnetta) Hunter, Lafe, Earl O.. (Donnie) Hunter, Robert E. Hunter, all of Jonesboro, Danny L. (Marie) Hunter, Elizabeth, AR; sisters, LaWanda Holcomb, Nettie Dever, Alice Ruth, all of Rock Falls Illinois; and her precious dog, Chico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Earl & Velma Mae Johnson Hunter.

Graveside services will be Friday, April 15th, 10:00 a.m. at Macedonia Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday April 14th, 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bobby Joe Condray
 


Bobby Joe Condray, 69, of Paragould went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 13, 2011. He was born June 10, 1941 in Leeper, MO to Joby and Eufa Condray. He was a deacon at Beech Grove Baptist Church. Bobby loved spending time with family and grandkids, working with wood, fishing and hunting. His grandkids were his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeeRoy Condray and Edward Condray.

Survivors include his wife Verta (Bert) Condray of the home; two sons, Gregory Joe Condray and Gary Don Condray of Paragould; one daughter, Christie Mechell and son-in-law Andy Hudson of Beech Grove; two brothers, Joby and Shirley Condray of Henderson, AR., and Donald and Diane Condray of Beech Grove; one sister, Dorothy Crafton of Beech Grove; two sister-in-laws, Barbara Condray of Williamsville, MO and Myrna Condray of Beech Grove; eight grandchildren, Sydnye, Justice, Tristen, Blayne, Wyatt, Grace, Jordan, Joshua and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday evening, April 15th, 6:00 until 9:00 in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 16th, 2:00 p.m. with Jeff Hyde and Dale Snyder officiating.

Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will include grandsons, Justice, Tristen, Blayne, Wyatt, Joshua, and Bryton Joiner and Cody Hobbs.

Virginia Elizabeth Bryant



Virginia Elizabeth Bryant, 85, of Paragould passed April 13, 2011. She was born August 26, 1925 in Paragould to Everett and Goldie Flanery. She liked working in her garden.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Fred Bryant; four brothers, Issac, Henry, James and Homer Flanery; two sisters, Ann Sims and Esther Rosamond.

She is survived by two sons, Everett and Garry Don Bradley both of Paragould; one brother, R.C. Flanery of O’Kean; two sisters, Sharon Brown and Sadie Davis both of Paragould; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, April 16th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday April 17th, 2:00 p.m. in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with J.E. McAnally and Marlon Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Jesse H. Jernigan



Jesse H. Jernigan, 83, was born November 23, 1927 in Paragould and passed away April 13, 2011 in Oklahoma. His first love was aviation. His first flight was June 25, 1944 and first solo flight was November 6, 1944 at the age of 16 at Detroit City airport. His last flight was March 1, 2011 from Gundys Airport in Owasso, OK to Berryville, AR., roundtrip. He enjoyed 67 years in the air. He was hired in as co-pilot DC-3 Capital Airlines in Willow Run, MI on June 27, 1951. He retired February 9, 1986, flying B747 United Airlines, Narita Japan-ORD. In 2005, he received FAA Master Pilot Award for 60 years accident free flying. He logged 25,110 flight hours during his life. He was raised to the Degree of Master Mason on February 16, 1951 and loyally served as a Master Mason for sixty years. He served in the US Army 1946-1948 post WWII occupation Italy. He served in the US Air Force 1949-1950 class of 50E flying the AT-6.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son: Dennis Jernigan of Owasso, OK; daughter-in-law: Erma Jernigan of Owasso, OK; grandson: Maj. Bryan Jernigan, USAF of Okiniwa, Japan; granddaughter: Deana Jernigan of Oklahoma City, OK; uncle: James Jernigan of Little Rock, AR; significant other: Val Hadden of Bartlesville, OK.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 17th, 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated Monday, April 18th, 2:00 p.m. at a graveside service at Clark's Chapel Cemetery.

Violet Mae Garner



Violet Mae Barnhill Garner, 85, Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab. She was born August 11, 1925 in Paragould the daughter of the late Houston "H. A." and Dora Barnes Barnhill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James J. Garner, infant daughter, Rebecca Garner, brothers, Roy, Olen and Harold.

She is survived by her daughter: Joan Pruitt of Maumelle; sons and daughters-in-law: James H. and Jeanine Garner of Machiasport, Maine, Larry G. and Brenda Garner of Jonesboro, Gary M. and Gail Garner of Millport, Alabama, Randy G. and Robin Garner of Doniphan, Missouri; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 17th, 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with a celebration of her life following at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Jason Noel will officiate. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Gladys Jerlene Hyde



Gladys Jerlene Noel-Whiteside-Hyde, 89, of Paragould passed away April 14, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born October 4, 1921 in the Alexander Community of Greene County. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Elmore, Noel, Holcomb; her father, Edmond Noel; two brothers, John Noel, Jr., J. W. Noel and his wife Izetta; first husband, Cleo Whiteside; a son and daughter, Earcel Devon and Gladys Sharon Whiteside; second husband, James (Cotton) Hyde; step-daughter, Jeanette Hyde Liddell; son-in-law, Larry Hooker and a granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Hooker.

She is survived by a daughter, Bernetta Sue Whiteside Hooker of Bakersfield, Calif.; a granddaughter, Lori Hooker Meunier and her husband Mike of Lodi, Calif.; a grandson and his wife Steven and Carrie Hooker; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Savannah Hooker all of Bakersfield, Calif; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Gladish and Betty Vaughn both of Paragould; two step-sons, Eugene Hyde and his wife Diane of Paragould and James Jr. Hyde of Illinois; twelve step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, three step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 21st, 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, at Phillips Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m., Thursday at Reddick Cemetery with Brother Leon Harvey officiating.

Martha Louise Willis
 


Martha Louise Brasher Willis, 77, of Lafe, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born December 17, 1933, in Paragould, to Allen and Ida Brasher, and married William Willis on May 16, 1952.

Mrs. Willis was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lafe. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Survivors include her husband, William Willis of the home; two sons, Larry Willis and his wife, Virginia of Lafe, Terry Willis of Walnut Ridge; and two sisters, Mary Dowler of Lafe, and Tillie Henderson of Cape Canaveral, Florida. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Crystal Willis of Lafe, Flynn Willis and wife, April, Heith Willis, and wife, Kelli, and Holly Gunn, all of Paragould; two step grandchildren, Amber Bagwell and Amanda Spinks, both of Conway; six great grandchildren, Avery Willis, Matthew and Josh Gunn, Karter, Kooper and Kyler Willis; and by many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 18th, 10:00 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lafe, with Curt Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Pallbearers will include Flynn Willis, Heith Willis, Blake Brasher, Phillip Brasher, David Dowler and Jerry Lacy.

Laura Sue Morgan, 59, of Paragould, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Born August 28, 1951, in Paragould, she was a former clerk at the Ramada Inn and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Shaunann Williams of Paragould; and two grandchildren, Dareeus and Xander Williams

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Nell Wilson



Funeral services for Nell Wilson, 76, of Longview, Texas, will be Friday, April 22nd, 2 p.m. at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview, with the Rev. Bill Voss officiating. Cremation will follow services.

Mrs. Wilson went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 16, 2011.
Nell Wilson was born in Paragould, Arkansas, to Almus and Virginia Knowlton. She moved to Longview from Paragould, Arkansas, in 1944 and was a homemaker and enjoyed painting and gardening.
She is survived by her sons, Cliff Wilson of Arlington and James Wilson of Irving; adopted daughters, Gay Nell Donnelly and Virginia Gail Wilson, both of Keller; brother, J.C. Ford of Longview; sister, Marjorie Wilson of Lakeport, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Paul Gene Martin, 86, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his home. He was born September 5, 1924 in Red Onion, Missouri the son of the late George and Mary Howard Martin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Jean Martin and granddaughter, Melissa. He was of Church of Christ belief and retired from Emerson Electric Company.

Survivors include his children and their spouses: James and Wanda Martin of Marmaduke, Rhonda and David Hosier of Jonesboro, Gary and Lisa Martin of Paragould; sister: Lou Cole of Arbyrd, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his best buddy, his dog, Princess.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated Wednesday, April 20th, 10:00 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel, with L.R. Lonnie Gerald Wilson, 84 of Paragould passed away Sunday April 17, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Lonnie was born March 15, 1927. He was the owner/operator of Osie’s Drive In and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 20 years. Lonnie was a very dedicated man, loved his church and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Kate Lipe Wilson. Survivors include his wife, Osie Wilson of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mike Smith of Paragould; sons, Johnny Ross of Paragould and Jimmy Ross of Calgary, Canada and 6 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday April 21th, 10:30 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Bob Lee officiating. Tammie “Polly” Baldwin passed away February 13, 2011. She was of Baptist faith and attended Greater Vision Ministries. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them.

Betty Jo “Wilson” Grimes, 63, of Paragould passed away at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Little Rock, Saturday, April 16, 2011, of natural causes.

She was born September 3, 1947, at Leachville to W.O. and Winnie Fay Wilson.

Betty was a staunch Democrat.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Grimes; father, W.O. Wilson; and one brother, Don Wilson.

Survivors include her mother, Winnie Fay Wilson of Paragould; one son, Kevin Fisher of Memphis; one sister, Ruth Ann Prater; and one brother-in-law, David Prater, both of Paragould; and one grandchild, Paige Fisher of Memphis.

Leslie Elbert Holcomb



Leslie Elbert Holcomb, 89, of Cardwell, MO, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born March 14, 1922 in Cardwell, the son of the late Luther and Ida Toombs Holcomb. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Jackson Holcomb, sisters, Bonnie Miller, Lurlie Todd and Alma Jackson, brother, Harold Holcomb. Leslie was a graduate of Cardwell High School where he was a three letter athlete. He was a retired farmer and attended Buck Donic Assembly of God for most of his life, rarely missing a service. He has resided at the Rector Nursing Home for the last five years of his life. Leslie was a World War II Navy veteran, and avid Cardinal fan and duck hunter.

Survivors include his brother, Vernon Holcomb of Paragould and sixteen nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 21st, 12:30 until 1:15 at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at a graveside service, at Cardwell Cemetery, Thursday 1:30 p.m., with Brother William Allen officiating. Pallbearers are Douglas Beliew, Clint Beliew, Travis Cude, John Dillon, Matt Jackson, and Dennis Risinger. Memorials may be sent to the Cardwell Cemetery Fund, P.O. Betty Robertson O’Dell Stone, 75, of Marmaduke, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Born June 19, 1935 in Marmaduke, she was a homemaker and a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church.

She is survived by six daughters, Karen O’Dell and Lisa Hodge, both of Arizona, Carol Taiclet of Wellesley, Massachusetts; Linda O’Dell and Susan Hughes, both of Mesa, Arizona, and Tracey Wright of Rockport, Texas. Other survivors include two sisters, Kaylene Lewallen and Rosella Stokes, both of Marmaduke; thirteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Garlon and Zella Robertson; her first husband, William O’Dell; and her second husband, Gene Stone.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 21st, 2:00 p.m. at Marmaduke First Baptist Church with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Cudd Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church, Thursday, 12:00 noon until service time.

Carlton Leon Stanfill



Carlton "T" Stanfill, 77, of Paragould, went to be with the Lord, April 19, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Jane Stanfill and his brother, Orvil. He was of the Christian faith. He was born June 18, 1933 in Dunklin County, Missouri. He farmed for several years in the Bard Community, was a self-employed gravel truck owner and retired from Emerson Electric after 29 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He traveled to Jamaica in 1998 to do missions work and helped build a church while there. He enjoyed fishing with his wife and friends at Reelfoot Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gaye Stanfill; daughters and sons-in-law: Teresa and Tim Williams of Paragould; Cherye and Philip Faughn of Jonesboro; grandchildren: Kevin (Tonya) Eddings, Keith (Jamie) Eddings of Paragould; Lanie and Amy Faughn of Jonesboro; great-grandchildren: Hailey, Mason, Karson and Kyler Eddings; brothers: Euel, Carl, Leland, Junior; sister: Carolyn Winn.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of his life will be Friday, April 22nd, 1:00 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Pat Boling, 72, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born December 11, 1938, in Paragould, she was a retired chiropractic assistant and of the Christian faith.

Survivors include one son, Michael Boling; two daughters, Kimberly Boling Bibb, and her husband, Dr. John Bibb, Sandy Boling Massey and her husband, Brad Massey, all of Paragould. She is also survived by three brothers, Donald Long of St. Charles, Missouri, Raymond Long of Acadia, Missouri, and Gaylen Long of Romance, Arkansas; two sisters, Tommye Long Bishop of St. Peters, Missouri, and Brenda Long Vitale of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; and three grandchildren, Mabry Massey, Marlise Massey, and Bronwyn Bibb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Boling; one brother, Johnnie Long; one sister, Jeanette Brashears; and her parents, Tommy Jacob and Nettie Rogers Long.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 22nd, 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Royce Boling and Lindsey Walt officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Wava Louise Hammond, 68, of Paragould, passed away April 19, 2011, at her home. Born July 19, 1942, at Bard, Arkansas, she was a retired personnel manager for the George W. Jackson Mental Health Center, and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by one daughter, Maria Hammond of Paragould; two brothers, Douglas J. Smith of Paragould, and Glen C. Smith of St. Louis; two sisters, Wanda Arnold of Birmingham, Alabama, and Jeanette Welch of Holloway, Tennessee, and by two special friends, Teri Reagan and Jimmie Dee Atkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Pearl Smith; her husband, William J. Hammond; one daughter, Kristie Hammond, and one brother, Jay Smith.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 22nd, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Royce Schanda officiating. Burial will be in Finch Cemetery.

Martha Jane Kennedy, 93 formerly of the Rector area passed away April 20, 2011 at the Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould. She was born September 23, 1917 to the late Tobe and Addie (Tutton) Edwards in Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, preceding Martha in death was her husband, Archie Kennedy, an infant son: Larry Don Kennedy her brothers: Marvin, Dutch and Gene and her sisters: Hazel, Pauline, Ella and Laverne.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Faye and Vondal Matheney of Paragould, Bonnie and Harold Fisk of Paragould, Loretta and Jack Patten Sr. of St. Charles, Missouri, Jolene and James Turner of Rector and Judy and Dr. Rick Jones of Kennett, eight grandchildren, Archie Matheney, Duncan Matheney, Tim Fisk, Jack Patten Jr., Scott Turner, Stacey Charles, Jennifer Karsten and Elizabeth Karsten, twelve great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Donnie Ray Henson



Donnie Ray Henson, 57, of Paragould passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at his sister’s home.

He was born in Sedgwick and had lived in Paragould since 2006, moving there from Little Rock. He was a printer for the newspaper and of the Pentecostal belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Wilma Haney Henson; brother, Stanley Henson; and two sisters, Trudy Handford and Claudine Nichols.

Survivors include two sons, Donavan Henson of Benton and Mark Henson of Baltimore; daughter, Amanda Henson; and two sisters, Diann Roleson and Loretta Hendrix, both of Jonesboro.

Funeral service will be private with Emerson Funeral Home in charge. There will be no visitation.

Earline was born November 8, 1928, she retired from the Memphis City Schools, a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven, MS and a former member of East Side Baptist Church in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mamczur; parents, Earl and Clella Huffine Dial; brother, Dellas "Bill" Dial and sister, Pearl Mason.

Survivors include daughter, Bonnie Clinton of Southaven, MS; sons, Steve Mamczur of Southaven, MS and Paul Mamczur of Collierville, TN; brothers, Royce, Leo, J. W. and Jesse Dial all of Paragould; sisters, Reba Boling of Paragould, Mary Jane McFall of Ditner, MO and Willie Frances Williams of Paragould, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary L. DePriest


Mary L. DePriest, 75, of Paragould, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, at St. Bernard's Medical Center. She was born December 17, 1935 in Fontaine and was a former employee of Emerson Electric. She was of the Southern Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rick and Lyn DePriest of Joshua, Texas, and Steve DePriest of Paragould; one daughter, Lisa DePriest of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and one sister, Nina West of Jonesboro. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Christy Johnson, Michelle Henderson, Ericka DePriest, Brandi DePriest, Brittney Miller, and Dillon Pigue; and by five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert DePriest; her parents, William and Pearl Tenison; one brother, C. D. Tenison; three sisters, Wanda Chappel, Oma Dunham, and Glenda Eggers.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 25th, 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Marsden officiating, burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the funeral home.

Jason Micheal Gramling, 37, of Rector, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, in Memphis, TN. Jason was born September 28, 1973 in Sikeston, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, Terry D. Gramling, Sr., grandparents, William and Verda George and Gene Gramling.
Jason was employed by Utility Trailer, a member of Marmaduke First General Baptist Church, an avid outdoorsman loving hunting, fishing, camping, reading and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife Cindy Gramling; daughters: Jaya Gramling, Faith Gramling; sons: Skyler Gramling, all of the home, and Adam Gramling of Advance, MO.; parents: Debra and Bill Lowe of Kennett; brothers: Terry Gramling, Jr. of Corinth, Mississippi, Michael Gramling of Atoka, TN., T.J. Gramling of Memphis; sisters: Carrie Blue of Kennett, Brittany Lowe of Paragould; and grandmother, Clara Gramling of Jacksonville, FL.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 25th, 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel. His life will be celebrated following visitation at 3:00 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Kenneth Hargrave officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Johnny Ray Townsley, 75, of Nesbitt, Mississippi passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at his residence. He was born March 25, 1936 in Clover Bend, Arkansas. Mr. Townsley was retired from the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam, also retired from FEDEX and a member of the Maples United Methodist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Survivors include; his wife Phyllis Townsley of the home, two sons, Kyle Townsley of Holiday, Texas, Doyle Townsley of Gulfport, Mississippi, two daughters, LeAnne Spencer of Boynton Beach, Florida, Carrie Townsley of California, one step daughter, Robin Dias of Nesbitt, Mississippi, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mr. Townsley was preceded in death by: his parents, Clinton and Allene Townsley and one grandchild.

William R. Wilson
 

William R. “Bill” Wilson, 78, passed away Saturday April 23, 2011 at home in Jonesboro after a long battle with COPD.

He was born in Burdett, Arkansas August 24, 1932 and went to school at Parkin, Arkansas. He lived in the Midway community for 35 years before moving back to Jonesboro. He was a member of Amagon Baptist Church where he was ordained as Deacon in 1993. During his illness, he was thankful for the television ministry of Central Baptist Church. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War where he received a Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He had served as Captain for the Richwood Volunteer Fire Department. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn & Eva Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Wilson; three sons, Billy Wilson and wife, Vicky of Biggers, Arkansas, David Wilson and wife, Melody of Searcy, Arkansas, Michael Wilson and wife, Tammy of Decatur, Alabama; and one daughter, Debbie and husband, Jeff Wicker of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Angie & Wade Jackson, Amy & Bart Morrison, Colby & Jennifer Wilson, Weston Wilson, Kassie Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Austin Wilson, Brady Wilson, Tanner McElrath, and Benjamin Wicker; three step-grandchildren, Kendra Simonton, Jordan Wicker, and Whitten Wicker; and 3 great grandchildren, Zac Matthews, Madison Jackson, and Emily Morrison.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Wilson, David Wilson, Michael Wilson, Jeff Wicker, Colby Wilson, and Cyrus Bible.

Honorary pallbearers are Tanner McElrath, Dr. Timothy Shown, Dr. D.V. Patel, Dr. Kenneth Chan, Pastors Charles Vaughan and E.C. Hartness, Alfred Howard, Todd Howard, and all the members of the Richwood Volunteer Fire Department, and members of the People Helping People Community Center.

Nora Nadine Jenkins



Nora Nadine Jenkins, 76, Paragould, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011, at St Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. Nadine was born November 19, 1934. She was a nurse and was one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, Willie J Jenkins, parents, Leeander and Margie Irene Shipley, and sister, Patricia Lou Quinn.

Survivors include her sister: Phyllis M. Delmont; brothers: Harold L. Shipley, both of Paragould; Gary L. Shipley of Fredericktown, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Pauline Horton



Pauline Horton, 84 passed away April 25, 2011 at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. She was born September 18, 1928 to the late James and Nelly (Morton) Goodman.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Charles Horton, preceded Pauline in death. Her son, Kevin Horton, also preceded her and her daughters: Sherry Rose and Robin Horton and eleven siblings.

Surviving Pauline is her four sons: Devon Horton and Joe Horton both of Marmaduke, Darrell Horton and Corey Horton both of California, three daughters: Faith Sellers and Paula Horton both of Marmaduke and Shelley Fikes of California, a brother: Delbert Goodman of California and a sister: Zella Mae Cate of Piggott, twenty-three
grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 27th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke with Elder John Cooper and Elder Danny Adcock officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke.

Rayburn “Gene” McDonald, 72, of Lafe, AR passed away April 25, 2011. He was born March 10, 1939 in Lafe, AR. to Arthur and Geneva McDonald. Rayburn was a member of Gainesville Church of Christ. He retired from L.A Darling in Corning. He loved deer hunting and riding four wheelers.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Bobby, Jackie, and Owen McDonald.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy McDonald of the home; two sons, Chris (Betty) McDonald and Kerry (Georgann) McDonald; one daughter, Jamie (David) Winn all of Lafe, AR.; one brother, Kenneth McDonald of Jacksonville, AR.; two sisters, Virginia McBee of Paragould, Orma Maddox of Marriott, GA.; five grandchildren, Kortney, Keridon, Felica, Chance and Brigette; seven great-grandchildren, Landen, Logan, Ashton, Aleighna, Sophie, Scarlett and Kaylie.

Patricia Ann Huggins



Patricia Ann Huggins, 75, of Paragould, passed away April 25, 2011 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends, after fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Patricia was born August 30, 1935, she retired from Monroe Auto Equipment; and was a member of the Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Charles Sutton; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Butch Fletcher, all of Paragould; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Jacque Cosby of Manahan, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and George Gutzler of Potosi, Missouri, and Brenda and Ed Claunch of Greenbriar. She is also survived by six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Nora Cosby; one brother, J.D. Cosby; one son, Ripple Sutton; one grandson, Tim Rowland; and one great grandson, Tyler Saylors.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 28th, 1:30 p.m., at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Wilburn Griggs officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Chuck Sutton, Butch Fletcher, Dusty Fletcher, David Cosby, Chuck Sutton, Lloyd Hailey, Jim Fletcher, Clay Harrison, and Bob Campbell will serve as pallbearers.

Loraine Holman Philhours



Mrs. Loraine Holman Philhours, age 88, of Jonesboro, widow of Mr. David Philhours and former longtime Manila resident, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Born at Delaplaine, Arkansas she was the daughter of the late John Leslie and Jessie Elinor Vaughn Holman and was a 1940 graduate of Hornersville High School in Hornersville, Missouri. She was a graduate of Arkansas State University and retired from Manila Public Schools in 1985. Mrs. Philhours was a former longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Manila and was a current member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church. She had been a Jonesboro resident for the past nine years.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother, John Holman, and a grandson, Matt Ellis.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Larry Campbell of St. Louis, and Jan and Jim Ellis of Jonesboro; two grandsons, Jimmy Ellis and his wife Kathy of Frisco, Texas, and Todd Ellis of Jonesboro; and two great-grandchildren, Kate Ellis and Matt Ellis, both of Frisco.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 28th, 2:00 p.m. at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Todd Ellis and Jimmy Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

Ruel David Jackson, 74, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, Jonesboro.

Mr. Jackson was born June 10, 1936, in Greene County, and was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Fisher Street United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Ruel Gregory Jackson of Jackson, MS, Michael David Jackson of Sherwood, AR; and two daughters, Pamela Diane Powers of Paragould and Gina Renee Muzzi of Greenville, MS. He is also survived by two brothers, Tommy Jackson and Buren Jackson, both of Jonesboro; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruel Dewey and Bertha Jackson; two brothers, Marlin Jackson and Paul Jackson; and by two sisters, Charlene Shields and Jeraldine Jackson.

David Wade Blankenship, 86 of Paragould has gone to be with the Lord, Friday April 29, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. He was born August 11, 1924 in Delaplaine, AR, the son of the late William and Thalia Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Blankenship. He was a member of Grace United General Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and David Anderson of W. V., sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Lynn and Linda Blankenship of Paragould and Vernon and Connie Blankenship of IA.,grandchildren, Jamie Rogers, Stefanie Ward, Melissa Stone, PFC Michael Anderson and Amanda Troug, five great grandchildren.

Harold A. Walker



Harold A. Walker, 82, of Paragould passed away Friday April 29, 2011 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born at Blytheville, he was the son of the late James Arthur and Dora Kent Walker and had been a Paragould resident for the past 24 years. Mr. Walker was a U.S. Navy veteran and a former resident of Flushing, MI., where he retired from General Motors Corp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Landrum Walker of the home; two sons, Jim Walker of Marietta, GA., and Glenn Walker of Flushing; his daughter, Barb Walker Kelly of Colorado Springs, CO.; one brother, Jack Walker of Manila; one sister, Virginia Harmon of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She graduated in 1959 from St. Josephs Hospital School of Nursing, worked at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center from 1981-1996. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Glen Moore, Sr., father and mother, John R. and Ruth Louise Johnston Jarvis, step-mother, Faye Jarvis, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Armon H. and Mildred Moore, brother, Thomas Jarvis, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include, sons, Dennis G. Moore, Jr. and John E. Moore both of Paragould; daughters and son-in-law Angela C. and Randall Hardin and Theresa L. Harris both of Paragould; brother and sister-in-law, John R., Jr. and Nettie Jarvis of Savannah, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ray Brown of Snellville, GA; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Ruth Moore of Jefferson City, MO, Max E. Moore of Paragould, David Lee More of Jonesboro; sister-in-law, Joan M. William Marlynn Bailey, 67 of the Light Community, passed away Saturday April 30, 2011 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. William was born January 11, 1944. He was an employee of Bailey Lumber Company in Walnut Ridge and was of the Free Will Baptist belief.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Earl and Mary Nelsie Miller Bailey and a brother, J. D. Bailey. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Bailey of the home; Daughter, Linda Westhause of Galveston, TX; sons, Marlin Bailey of Paragould and Greg Bailey of Walnut Ridge, AR; sisters, Pat Myrick of Stanford, Beverly Tedder and Marilyn Crafton both of Walnut Ridge; brothers, Carl E. Bailey , Boyd Bailey and Jerry Bailey, all of the Light Community. Nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday May 3rd, 1:30 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Don Winfrey officiating.
