Ruth Helen Rainbolt



 Ruth Helen Rainbolt, 80, of Paragould died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was born December 25, 1927, in Hollady, TN., the daughter of John T. and Zula Mae Cantrell Spence. She was a homemaker, a self employed seamstress for 25 years and a custodian for Calvary Baptist Church in Corning for 25 years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Rainbolt; sons, James and Robert Wayne Rainbolt; her parents; two brothers; and three sisters.

Surviors include one daughter, Ruth Ann Mondy of Springfield, Mo.; one son, Billy E. Rainbolt of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Jeff and Leanna Gulliory, Brent and Laura McCullar, Sandy and JoAnn DuBrul, Brian Rainbolt and Elizabeth Rainbolt; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at New Hope Cemetery in Pollard with Rev. Troy Mackey officiating.

Wilma L. Vick

 


Wilma L. Cook Vick, 74, of Paragould, passed away April 1, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born April 13, 1933, in Lutsville, Mo., to Willis and Laura Cook.

Wilma was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 2242. She lived in Paragould approximately 40 years, working as a waitress before becoming a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde Vick; one son, Paul Dooley of Illinois; one brother, Bud Cook of Granite City, Ill.; three sisters, Opal Lincoln of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Jessie Hoosier of Advance, Mo., and Myrtle Davis of Jonesboro; 10 stepchildren, Diane Barnhill, Roger Vick, Janet Goebel, Janis Partlow, Doris Hendrix, Mable Crossno, Emmett Vick, Charles Vick, all of Paragould, Susie Adams of Branson, Mo., and Carolyn Huggins of Michigan; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Laura Cook; three brothers, Henry, John and Truman Cook; and two sisters, Essie French and Grace Woodcock.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Bill Snow officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 2242, 4273 U.S. 49 North, Paragould, 72450.

Verniece Hubble Beliew

 

Verniece Beliew passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Evergreen Nursing Home in Rector.

She was born September 16, 1920, to Floyd and Amy Yancey Hubble in Rector.

Mrs. Beliew was a retired cook from the Paragould School District. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a avid gardener, seamstress, wonderful cook, and a devoted wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, A. C. Beliew; one brother, L. C. Hubble; and by one sister, Pauline Blan.

She is survived by her children, Marilynn and Joe Kirby of Bartlett, Tenn., Larry and Karen Beliew and Avery and Diane Beliew, all of Paragould. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Casey of Paragould; and by one sister-in-law, Ozalene Beliew Washington of Halliday.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:15 to 10:10 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

 Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Dennis Scudder and Jason Noel officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:10 a.m.   

 Her sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Kenneth Stanton Miles Jr.

 
Kenneth Stanton Miles Jr. of Paragould was born September 28, 1958, to the late Kenneth “Pete” Stanton Miles Sr. and Janola Miles. He departed this life Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the age of 49.

Kenny was a riverboat pilot for more than 30 years and most recently worked for Memco Barge Co. Kenny was a Baptist and member of East Side Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Crystal Ann Miles.

He is survived by his wife, Trina Miles of the home; two sons, Alexander Stanton Miles and Garrett Samuel Dean Miles, both of the home; one sister, Judy Wilkins of Paragould; and his nephew, Dan Schmidt of Paragould. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sue Gramling of Paragould; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-9 in Mitchell Funeral Home at Paragould.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Paragould.

Active pallbearers will be Bryan Gramling, Dan Schmidt, Daren Higgins, Tom Gilmer, Ronnie Harvey and Miles Harvey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Dunaway, Mark Ellington, Rodney Scott and all his riverboat buddies.

David Eugene McNeil

 

David Eugene McNeil, 46, of Paragould, formerly of Trumann, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in Paragould.

Mr. McNeil was born July 7, 1961

He is survived by many friends, but no known family.

Graveside services will be 3:30 P.M. Friday, April 11th, at Linwood Cemetery with Kenny McMahan officiating.

Visitation will be from 2:00-3:15 P.M. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 3:20 P.M. Scott Wilson, Jimmy Creece, Jerry Vinson, Paul Creecy, Dale Taber, and John Hancock will serve as pallbearers. Mark Bishop will be an honorary pallbearer.

Gerald Dewayne Conger



Gerald Dewayne Conger, 70, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born March 31, 1938, at Marmaduke to Finis and Beulah Conger. Gerald was a retired truck driver for Emerson and Mellow Moon. He was a member of First Church of God where he served on the board and was song director. A loving husband, Dad and grandfather will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hearn Conger; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Kayla Conger of Marmaduke; two daughters, Melissa Huffmaster of Marmaduke and Kelly Stenson and her husband Graham of Guntersville, Ala.; two grandchildren, Dylan Barnhill and Colby Huffmaster; four sisters, Olean Bruno and Kathy Ussery of Marmaduke, Pat Cole of Carrollton, Texas, and Carolyn Ray of Paragould.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Doyle and Charles; and a sister, Betty.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Phillips Funeral Home with Kevin Edgar officiating.

Visitation will be from 6-9 Sunday evening.

Active pallbearers will be Rayburn Forman, Junior Blankenship, Chris Wilcox, Marc Siebert, Fred Siebert and Randall Siebert.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the men’s Sunday school class at First Church of God.

Fredrick Ray Prince I



Frederick Ray “Woody” Prince I, 58, of Bono died on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Born February 17, 1950 at Paragould, he was a concrete finisher employed by Anderson Brothers Concrete. He loved being a grandfather and was a dedicated Harley rider, and participated in many charity events. He was also of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara K. Prince of the home; his mother, Bobbie Stine of Mesa, Ariz.; one son, Freddy R. Prince II of Bono; three daughters, Teresa M. Fore and husband Noel of Brookland, Bobbi A. Johnson and husband Donald of Hoxie and Starlia K. James and husband Rodney of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Freddy Prince III of Bono, Ashley and Sarah Fore of Brookland, Colton and Brooke Johnson of Hoxie and Rodney and Jessie James of Jonesboro; two brothers, Mike Freeman of Jonesboro and Ken Freeman of Piggott; three sisters, Dana Radu of Mesa, Pamela Taylor of Nashville, Tenn., and Patricia Nicholson of Paragould; a very special friend, Grover Gent; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Freddy Prince; and a brother, Charles Stearley.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Danny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 tonight in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Oma Lee White



Mrs. Oma Lee White, of Trumann, was born on Saturday, August 23, 1924, daughter of the late Joe and Cora Ellen Hickam Blansett.

Mrs. White died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 11 days.

Born at Trumann,  Mrs. White had lived at Trumann for the past 12 years. She was formerly of St. Louis. She was a homemaker and member of Providence Baptist Church.

Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, Elvis John “Snook”  White; and her parents.

Survivors include one brother, Jesse “Short” Blansett of Caraway; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be this afternoon at 1:30 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann with the Rev. Bobby Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Crossroads Cemetery at Lorado.

Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Suttles, Rickie White, William White, Gary Jeffers, Alvin Mitchell and Randy Jeffers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Winters and Freddie English.

Roland Wesley Gilliam

 

Roland Wesley Gilliam, 67, of Paragould, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Gilliam was born October 1, 1940, in Paragould, to Clarence and Velma Gilliam. He was retired from Delta Asphalt and the Greene County Road Department, and was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Gilliam of the home; four sons, Roland “Bub” Gilliam, Jr., Gary Gilliam and Vernon Bateman, all of Paragould, Allen Edson of Thayer, Missouri; and two daughters, Nancy Lamar and Sarah Messer, both of Paragould. He is also survived by three brothers, Paul Gilliam and Albert Gilliam, both of Paragould, Donald Gilliam of Memphis; two sisters, Linda Fears and Vernice Potter, both of Paragould; sixteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Kenneth Gilliam.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with M.W. Ray officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.

Sally Ann Rowland

 

Sally Ann Rowland, 54, of Cape May Court House, New Jersey, formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the Cape Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House.

Born August 28, 1953, in Paragould, she was a research assistant for Lomax Consulting Group, Cape May Court House.

Survivors include her parents, Harrel and Geraldine Shewmaker of Paragould; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jared Rowland of Paragould, and Aaron and Myra Rowland of Keller, Texas; two brothers, Drew Tyler of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, John Shewmaker of Hot Springs; and three sisters, Nena Burnette, Becky Adams, and Phyllis Williams, all of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Jean May Shewmaker.

Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M to 9:00 P.M. Thursday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Kymberlee Jae Hicks



Kymberlee Jae  “K.J.” Hicks, 15, of Paragould went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 7, 2008

She was born July 25, 1992, in Paragould. K.J. was a sophomore at Greene County Tech High School. She was on the GCT soccer team and was a cheerleader. She loved to sing and play the piano and was an active member of her youth group at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church.

She is survived by her parents, Jay and Kimberly Hicks; brother, Levi Stanley Hicks, all of the home; grandparents, Jay Will and Betty Hicks of Beech Grove; aunts and uncles, Dave and Marcia Hubbard of Pocahontas, Terry and Samara Hicks of St. Louis, Les and Brenda Crow of Schugtown and Pam Niswonger of Dixie; her special friend, Jonathan Blake; and several cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert and Faye Niswonger; and uncle, Ronnie Niswonger.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 Thursday night in Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday in Heath Colonial Chapel with Don Settles officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Grace Faulkner Bennett

 

Grace E. Faulkner Bennett, 84, of Paragould, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at BelleMeade Nursing Center.

Born May 25, 1923, in Greene County, Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker and a member of Rosewood Baptist Church. She oversaw the care of Moore Cemetery and did volunteer work for the Senior Bees.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Faulkner of Walcott; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda “Katy” Faulkner Garner, and Jackie and Bobby Henson, all of Paragould. She is also survived by one brother, Virgil “Buck” Felty of Paragould; four sisters, Alma Mohr of Jonesboro, Marcie Gibson, Van Dean Pearce, and Wanda “Ruthie” Tindell, all of Paragould; twelve grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and by one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Littleton “Bit” Faulkner; her second husband, Owen E. Bennett; her parents, Eli and Josie Felty; one son, Donald Faulkner; one daughter-in-law, Fay Faulkner; one great grandson, Darin Russell; and by one sister, Dovie Felty.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Friday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 12th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Marion Gramling and Max Gregory officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Marie Wray

 

Marie Wray, 83, of Paragould, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Wray was born March 21, 1925, in Etowah. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church and a former employee of Ely Walker Shirt Factory.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and John Taylor of Elkins, Arkansas, and Kay and Ray Noel of Paragould. She is also survived by one brother, Roy M. Cook of Etowah; five grandsons and their spouses, Bryan and Mandy Taylor of Hannibal, Missouri, Joe and Lisa Taylor of Mannford, Oklahoma, Stacey and Stephanie Noel of Paragould, Jason and Valerie Noel of Paragould, Tim and Heather Noel of Searcy; and by twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Wray; her parents, Homer and Emmie Cook; one infant brother and one infant sister.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 11th, at the East Side Baptist Church, Paragould, with Joe Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from noon until service time at East Side Baptist Church.

Wilda Mae Lenhart

 

Wilda Mae Lenhart, 60, of Paragould passed away April 8, 2008, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. She was born October 16, 1947, in Paragould to D.S. and Laverna Marvin. She was a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Lenhart and two brothers, J.D. and James Marvin.

She is survived by two brothers, G.E. Marvin of Paragould and C.E. Marvin of Arizona; seven sisters, Jewel Hatfield, Orine Marvin, Earline Childers, Bea Nettles and Wilma Strickland ,all of Paragould, Eyvonnie Harder and Lois Irvin of California.

There will be a graveside service 1:30 p.m., Friday at New Friendship Cemetery with Wayne Faulkner officiating.

Lucille Baird

 

Lucille Baird, 85, of Walcott, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

A homemaker, Mrs. Baird was born June 29, 1922, in Walnut Ridge. She was a former Sunday School teacher and a devoted member of the Light Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Howard Jackson Baird, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Walcott; three daughters, Ethel Noles of Walcott, Becky Diggs and husband, Jim, of Paragould and Sue Huffman and husband, Don, of Walcott. She is also survived by five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Ethel Brunson; her husband, Howard Jackson Baird, Sr.; one great granddaughter, Rebecca Suzanne Davenport; one son-in-law, Bob Noles; three sisters, Lorene Thornton, Mardell Shaffer and Pauline Brunson; and by one brother, Lloyd Brunson.

Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould, from 5:30-8:30 p.m, Friday.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 12th, at Light Baptist Church with Raymond Atwood and Glen Hoselton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Walcott.

Vance Cupp, Jr., David Pratt, Marvin Exum, Taf Wharton, Joe Pratt and Vance Cupp, III will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Maple and John Kellerman.

Larry Wayne Foster



Larry Wayne Foster, 59, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 6, 1948, at Paragould to the late Woodrow “Chuck” and Thelma Foster. He lived in the Jonesboro and Bono areas most of his life.

Mr. Foster received an associate degree in accounting from Crowley’s Ridge College and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a directory assistant operator. He was a member of the Eagles and Modern Woodmen and enjoyed reading, watching movies, computer, outdoors, fishing and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include a sister, Alice Griffin of Bono; two nephews, Scott Griffin of Bono and Bryan Griffin of Paragould; a niece, Crystal Foster of Brookland; and several cousins and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Gregg Funeral Home Chapel at Jonesboro with the Rev. Jerry Pentecost officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 in Gregg Funeral Home at Jonesboro.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Dale Lyles, Jimmy Doyle Miller, Steve Miller, Harvey Songer, Leroy Poore and Wes Poore.

Betty Marie Cate

 

Betty Marie Cate, 74, of Corning, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born October 5, 1933, in Palatka, AR., to the late Johnnie Poyner and Nora (Collins) Poyner, she was a homemaker, a 50-year member of Hickoria Missionary Baptist Church and a current member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Corning, where she was a Bible Scholar and Sunday School teacher. Her hobbies were flower gardening, quilting and sewing.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leon "Fuzz" Cate, in March 2002, and two brothers, J.W. and Webster Poyner.

Survivors include three sons, Phillip Cate of Blytheville, Steven Cate and Jonathan Cate, both of Corning; three daughters, Sherry Walley of Corning, Sheila Sellmeyer of Knobel and Ginger Hewett of Corning; two brothers, Denzil Poyner and Sonnie Poyner; one sister, Judy Poyner, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with Mike Chadwick and Doug Birch officiating. Burial in Post Oak Cemetery in McDougal with Ermert Funeral Home in charge of arrangements

Frederick Liddell Jones



Freddie Jones, 56, of Paragould, formerly of Rector, passed from this life on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Methodist University Hospital at Memphis.

He was born on February 29, 1952, in Kennett, Missouri.

Freddie was preceded in death by his father, Liddell Jones; and his mothers, Mercede Melrose Jones and Amelia Melrose Jones.

He is survived by two sisters and their husbands, Kathy and Mike Dodson of Harrison and Susan and Rick Gaston of Paragould; three nieces, Kim, Andrea and Amy; two nephews, Cory and Clay; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector with the Rev. JoAnn Barker officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Wilma Maxine Koonce


 Wilma Maxine Koonce, 78, of West Plains, Mo., died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Ozarks Medical Center.

A native of Northeast Arkansas, Mrs. Koonce was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Koonce of the home; two sons, Keith Koonce of O’Fallon, Mo., and Michael Koonce of Wentzville, Mo.; one brother, Raymond Valentine of Barton City, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel at Paragould with Marion Gramling officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Monday in Mitchell Funeral Home.

Rufus Junior Smith



Rufus Junior ‘JR’ Smith, 82, of Paragould died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born October 23, 1925, in Greene County, he was retired from L.A. Darling. Mr. Smith was a member of Souls Harbor Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Smith of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Earl and Carol Smith and Don Smith, all of Paragould; and one sister, Virginia Atwood of Marmaduke. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Todd and Loretta Reeder; five sisters, Hazel Chism, Florie Colliat, Geneva Wood, Pearlie Blunt and Beulah Conger; four brothers, Floyd Reeder, J.D. Reeder, Jessie Merle Reeder and Ephrom Smith; one brother-in-law, Earl Atwood; and one daughter-in-law, Ratha Smith.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday evening in Mitchell Funeral Home at Paragould.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Carter Grindstaff and Truman Wycoff officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Tom Galczynski, Scott Galczynski, Kevin West, Porter Summers, Kurtis West and Jake Galczynski will serve as pallbearers.

Donald Eugene Swink 



 Donald Eugene Swink , 69, went to be with his Lord, Friday, April 11, 2008, at his home in Paragould surrounded by members of his family. He was born September 14, 1938.

Donald was a member of the Freedom Worship Center in Paragould, a former employee of the Paragould Police Department, Emerson Electric and the Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL. He was a U. S. Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna Swink of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Shiena Swink of Paragould, daughters Kathy Corba of Clio, Michigan and Deborah Bunning of Lakeland, Fl, sisters Glenda Kaminer and Sue Kueter of Paragould and Sharon Williams of Davis Junction, IL. Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Bessie Hester Swink and a brother Harland “Bud” Swink.

 Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. in the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. William Allen officiating.

Burial will follow in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers are; Shawn McWilliams, Steve Kueter, Stan Self, Scott and Eddie Meredith and Greg Russom.

Mattie Lashay Bryant

 

Mattie Lashay Bryant, daughter of James Bryant and Sherry Flood, was born August 12, 1992, in Kennett, MO. and passed away Friday, April 11, 2008, in Paragould, AR., at the age of 15 years.

Mattie was an 8th-grader at Paragould Junior High School.

Survivors include her father, James Bryant of Kennett; two moms, Sherry Flood and Pamela Wynne of Paragould; grandparents, Charles and Shirley Bryant of Campbell; one brother, Justin Flood and his wife, Fleshia, of Holcomb, Mo.; one sister, Raven Davis and husband, Jerry Don, of Kennett, Mo.; one nephew, Noah Utley of Kennett and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Jim Edgar Flood, Snip Smith, Georgia Smith and one brother, Jeremy Flood.

Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church in Paragould on April 17, 2008, from 6-9 p.m.

Funeral services are to be held at 3 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2008, at McDaniel Chapel in Senath with Rev. Tom Letchworth, Rev. Zach Roberts and Rev. Jeff Weaver officiating. Burial was in Senath Cemetery.

Justin, Mike, Homer, Nick, Benny, Shannon, and Jessie will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Vincent, Stephen, Faith, Laisa, Joseph, Joe and Jimbo.

McDaniel Funeral Service, Senath, was in charge of arrangements.

Trae McDonald Roach

 

Trae McDonald Roach, age 17, son of Linus and Deloris Roach of Paragould, was born November 16, 1990, he went to be with his lord on Saturday, April 12, 2008.

His sister and brother, Teresa and Wynn Roach, Paragould, miss him greatly.

Trae is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents. His dappled dachshund, Miss Hattie, mourns him as well. Trae was a student at Greene County Tech. A fan of baseball, Trae played the game from his early years until age 14, and to his death was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Trae always appreciated the outdoors and would spend hours walking through the woods and exploring the terrain. Trae loved learning about and watching all animals and had a special fondness for dogs. He exhibited compassion for individuals who were being bullied and ostracized. Trae was a loyal friend.

He was a member of East Side Baptist Church, Paragould. He enjoyed an eclectic mix of musical genres, playing video games with friends, watching movies, macaroni and cheese, energy drinks, Mt. Dew, Brown Sugar Pop Tarts and Miss Nancy Hoke's homemade rolls. The loss of Trae is felt deeply by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Heath Colonial Chapel at 10:00 am with Reverend Packey Magel officiating.

Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 6:30-9:00 pm at Heath Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to P.A.W.S.

Kim Alan Farmer



Kim Farmer, 43, of Marmaduke passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, at his residence.

He was born November 19, 1964, to Bobby and Frances Crouch Farmer at St. Louis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and did taxidermy in his spare time. He will be missed dearly by his family.

Kim is survived by his wife, Tammy Garrett Farmer; a son and his wife, Bradley and Danielle Farmer, a son; Cody Farmer; a daughter, Morgan Farmer, all of Marmaduke; his parents, Bobby and Frances Farmer of Marmaduke; two brothers, Michael and his wife Dawn Farmer and Jeff Farmer of Marmaduke; two sisters, Shela Farmer and spouse Gene Lamborn and Catherine Farmer Arant of Marmaduke; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church at Marmaduke with Kim Bridges officiating. Interment will be in Hartsoe Cemetery at Marmaduke.

Erna Lou Easton



Erna Lou Easton, 80, of Paragould died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Mrs. Easton was born October 25, 1927.

Erna was a member of Blue Cross General Baptist Church and was a nurse for 33 years at Arkansas Methodist Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Easton; parents, Everett and Sybil Dickinson Jackman; and sister, Ann Ward.

Survivors include a son, Michael Gilmore of Paragould; brothers, Eugene Jackman of Benton and Gerald Jackman of Pevely, Mo.; sisters, Pat Barnhill of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Nell Clark of Paragould; three grandchildren; and a good friend, John Lynn.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector with the Revs. Eddie Harris and Bill Bass officiating.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at Heath Funeral Home.

Euna Mae Apodoca

 

Euna Mae (Powers) Apodoca, formerly of Paragould passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, in El Paso, Texas.

She is survived by one son, Gary Apodoca of El Paso; one daughter, Cathy Morales of Pheonix, Ariz.; a sister, Ovillia DePriest of Bolivar, Tenn.; a brother, John Powers and two sisters, Verda Futrell and Josephine Ryan, all of Paragould.

Funeral services will be Friday in Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Mary Capps Garner

 

Mary Capps Garner, 69, of Paragould, formerly of Broseley, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Hospice House in Omaha, Neb.

Mrs. Garner was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Hayti, Missouri. She had lived in Paragould for the past 12 years and had lived in Quinn and Broseley most of her life. She was a member of the Beech Grove General Baptist Church in Beech Grove and was a homemaker.

On March 31, 1955, she married Harvey Capps. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1990. She later married James Garner.

Survivors include one son, Terry Capps of Ellsinore; one daughter, Gina Trout and her husband, Jerry, of Papillion, Neb.; three sisters, Barb Morrison and Pat Williams, both of O’Fallon, Mo. and Carolyn Bryant of Bonne Terre, Mo.; five brothers, Herschel Mullins, James Mullins, John Flowers and James Flowers, all of Qulin, Mo. and Jackie Flowers of Dover, Del.; three grandchildren, Elijah Capps, Joshua Trout and Beth Trout; one great-grandchild, Morgan Capps and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Mullins.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., today at the White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday in the chapel with the Rev. Richard Williams officiating. Burial will be in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery.

Kathryn Jane Hoskins

 

Kathryn Jane Hoskins died April 14, 2008. She was born August 4, 1928, near Lorado, a long time employee of Paragould Chamber of Commerce, Ford and Herget Insurance Company, and retired from Foremost and Turner Dairies. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rena Caraway Brandon and Richard Grover Brandon and a sister, Mary Lou Gist.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Owen Hoskins; a sister Carolyn Ford Highfill of Paragould; sons and their spouses, Richard and Rebecca Hoskins of Paragould, Stephen and Margaret Hoskins of Bismark, and Frank Hoskins and Marnie Rose of Milton, Fla.; granddaughters, Katy McDowell of Paragould and Frankie Rutherford of Bismark; great-granddaughter, Reese Kathryn Rutherford of Bismark; nieces and nephews, Rena Jackson, Marilyn Brasher, Donna Gist Moore, Angela Shilcutt, Andy Ford and Brandon Gist and many great-nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers include Kyle Jackson, Davey Joe Jackson, Phillip Brasher, Shawn McDowell, Bert Daggett, J.R. Wyatt. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home, Rev. Tom Letchworth and Zach Roberts. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Today. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Building Fund or charity of choice.

Prentis Wayne Heathcock 

 

Prentis Wayne Heathcock, 61, of Paragould, died Monday, April 14, 2008 in Jonesboro. Mr. Heathcock was born November 19, 1946.

His parents, Julius Prentis and Ida Mae Heathcock and grandson, Devan Allen Easton precede him in death. He was a Vietnam veteran who served two tours of duty.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Heathcock, of the home; daughters, Bobbi Joe Richardson of Bakersfield, Calif., Krystal Dawn Easton and Glenda Faye Owens, both of Paragould; sister, Mary Jackson of Leachville and nine grandchildren.

Jacquelyn Faye  Craig

 

Jacquelyn Faye “Jackie” Goodman Craig, 66, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at her residence.

Jackie was born April 30, 1941. She was a former employee of Darling Store Fixtures, Emerson Electric, Ely Walker shirt factory, Hilton Hotels, and King’s Daughters and Sons Home in Memphis. Jackie enjoyed antiques, quilting and going “junkin”.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Staci Haynes Goodman; and granddaughters, Madelyn Grace Goodman, Shalene and Tameika Turman, all of Paragould. She is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Lesta and Tim Gardner of Paragould; three nieces, Lesli and Lynsi Gardner, and Tammy Lenderman; one nephew, Don Allen Goodman; two aunts, Maxine Brookhouse, Jennie Pribble; three great grandchildren; two great nephews; and by many loving cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert “Bud” Goodman; her mother, Jewell “Mick” May Goodman Hogland; her stepfather, Lester “Lec” Hogland; her brother, Robert Michael Goodman; and by her husband, Solon Ray Craig. Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 17th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be later at Rest Hills Memorial Park, Sherwood, Arkansas.

Regina Lynette Hudgens, 34, of Paragould, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Cash.

Born May 22, 1973, in Flint, Michigan, Regina was a 1993 graduate of Greene County Tech and a member of the Newton Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her mother, Terry Hudgens of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rickey and Krystal Leisure of Paragould, Patrick and Rebecca Ashford of Charleston, South Carolina; and one sister and brother-in-law, Dana and Robert Pate of Cash. She is also survived by six nephews; three nieces; and by several uncles, aunts, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ken Hudgens; and by one sister, Dianna Lynn Hudgens.

Robert Deleon

 

Robert Deleon, 50, of Paragould, passed away April 15, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born Aug. 5, 1957, in Houston, Texas to Samuel and Sylvestra Deleon. He was a free spirit who enjoyed riding his Harley.

He is survived by one son, Joshua Rushford of Paragould; one daughter, Shay Reed of Paragould; a sister Elizabeth Buford of Baytown, Texas, and two grandchildren, Alex Tyler and Elijah Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jose Deleon and Samuel Deleon, Jr. and an infant son Bobby Ray Deleon.

Cecile Marie Ehrhardt



Cecile Marie Ehrhardt, 88, of Paragould went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was born April 15, 1920, at Myrtle, Mo., the daughter of the late James and Annie Tibbs Evans. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Rufus, Clarence and Hosea Evans; and sisters, Mable Craig and Delia Bryan.

She was a homemaker, member of Alton Freewill Baptist Church and was in fellowship with Grace United General Baptist Church. Her life was her family.

She was a devoted Christian and loved her Lord. She spent her life serving the Lord with her beloved husband who survives her, the Rev. Millard Ehrhardt.

She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Marie and Mickey Robinson, all of Paragould; sisters, Orba Jacobs of Pocahontas, Ruby Wilkerson of Corning, Bertha Eddington of Pocahontas, Zada Harris of Maynard and Janice Ritchey of DeSota, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Robinson and Jonathan Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Braden, Madison, Chandler and Braxton Robinson, all of Paragould.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 this evening at Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Revs. Richard Todd and Kevin Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

James Houston Edwards



James Houston Edwards, 87, of Paragould died on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Belle Meade Nursing Home.

He was born September 21, 1920, at Beech Grove.

Houston was the owner of Edwards Appliance. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was an avid duck hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Martha Edwards; brothers, Clifton and Ray Edwards; and sister, Emma Jean Stallcup.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Winnie Edwards of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Kathy Edwards of Paragould; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kristin and Nathan Moss of Paragould; and brother, Billy Edwards of Paragould.

Visitation will be today from 12:30-2 p.m. in Heath Funeral Home.

Preston Scott Phillips

 

Preston Scott Phillips, infant son of Jason and Grace Phillips of Paragould, died April 18, 2008 at his home. Preston was born March 13, 2008.

Along with his parents his is survived by two brothers, Tanner and Austin Phillips of the home; grandparents, Scotty and Jackie Phillips, Warren and Brenda Cowart; great grandparents, Buddy and Pauline Phillips, and Ray and Norma Jennings; great great grandfather, Hubert Isbell; step grandparents, Doug Reimers and Carmella Martin.

He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Mary Ann Newsom and his great grandfather, Jackie Isbell.

Mary Lou Fraysher, 69, of North Charleston, S.C., formerly of Paragould died April 18, 2007. She was born April 24, 1938, in Creston, OH.,  the daughter of the late John Swartz, II and June Chapin Swartz. She was a retired hospital housekeeping supervisor and also was a waitress for several years.

Survivors include her sons, John Fraysher of Charleston and Alan K. Dicus of Paragould; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Jim Chapin of Bremerton, Wash. and John Swartz of Kent, Wash. and sister, Diana Pratt of Auburn, Wash.

Addie Vaudine Blackwood, 90, of Paragould, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born March 8, 1918, in Walcott, Mrs. Blackwood was a homemaker, and a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Ronald Taylor of Weldon Spring, Missouri; one sister, Betty Short of Paragould; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Vera Short; her husband, Jack Blackwood; and by one brother, Louie Short.

Geneva Gail Fields



Geneva Gail Fields, 51, of Paragould, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born April 25, 1956, in Paragould, she was a custodian at Greene County Tech and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her mother, Grace Fields; one son, Nick Austin; one brother, David Fields; and four sisters, Sharon Desenza, Vanessa Greer, Bonnie Staires, and Sheila York, all of Paragould. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Cody Austin, Britney Austin and Chase Austin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Boyce Fields; and one son, Chris Austin.

Clifford Featherston

 

Clifford Featherston, 83, of Marmaduke passed away April 21, 2008, at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.

He was born July 19, 1924, to the late John and Myrtle (Hubble) Featherston in Clay County. Clifford was a farmer and enjoyed showing horses and working with bird dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Denver Featherston; a brother, Dallas Petty; a half brother, J.T. Featherston and one sister, Carleen Twitty.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Mae Featherston; three daughters, Teresa Hutchins of Bella Vista, Marsha Kinsey of Springfield, Va. and Lorna Stewart of Piggott; three grandchildren, Derek Stewart, Delayne Easterwood and Sherri Easterwood; three great-grandchildren, Darren Peterson,  K.J. Judy Gail Hailey

 

Judy Gail Hailey departed this world Tuesday, April 22, 2008, to be with her Lord and Savior in her heavenly home.

Judy was born March 21, 1960, in Wasco, California, but lived most of her life in Paragould. She was a member of West View Baptist Church and loved her church family very much. Judy also attended FOCUS until she was forced to quit due to health reasons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zack Edward “Bud” and Dewanda Ross Hailey; one brother, Terry Hailey; one niece, Christy Michelle Hailey; her very special friend, David Winn; her maternal grandparents, Fred and Mary Martin, and Dutch and Lorene Wilkerson; her paternal grandparents, Zack Beasley and Verva Hailey; and also aunts, uncles and cousins.

Judy is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Jesse Dollars of the home, Doretta and Tommy Scott and Sara and Greg Huffine; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jack and Barbara Hailey, Steve and Cora Hailey, Lloyd Hailey and Robert Hailey; and a number of nieces and nephews, whom she loved with all her heart.

Judy was truly one of God’s special children and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 25th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Marc Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Janet Lee Masterson

 

Janet Lee Masterson, 45, of Marmaduke, passed away April 22, 2008, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro.

 She was born February 2, 1963, in Selineis, CA. to Leroy and Viola Cobb. She was a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church and loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her father, Leroy Cobb, of Marmaduke; one son, Timothy Abbott; one daughter, Michelle Wilson; one brother, James Cobb, all of Paragould; two sisters, Linda and Julie Cobb of Marmaduke and  five grandchildren, Brandon, Taylor and Katie Wilson,  Justice and Bailey Joiner.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Cobb; her husband, David Lee Abbott; a brother, Larry Cobb and a sister, Mary Daniels.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at New Friendship Cemetery with Larry McFadden officiating.

William “Bill” Clark  

 

Mr. William Clay “Bill” Clark, Jr., 87, of Cardwell, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born in Cardwell, he was the son of the late William Clay and Vera Ellen Lockard Clark and had been a Cardwell resident for most of his life. He was a graduate of Cardwell High School and received a Masters of Science in Education from Arkansas State University in 1961. He later received an Advanced Masters Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. He was a retired school teacher and administrator serving several school districts over the years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Letta Jo Bogle Clark, in 2001 and two sons, Bobby and Billy Clark.

Bill was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Navy Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Cardwell Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, John Paul Clark and his wife, Rhonda, of Cardwell and Mike Clark of Valley Park, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and her husband, Gary Blankenship, of Paragould and Suzanne and her husband, Jimmy Bushong, also of Paragould; one daughter-in-law, Anna Clark of Monette; one sister, Geraldine Shepherd of Sterling, Va.

 He also leaves nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bill also leaves his extended family; Larry and Jeannie Clark, Glenna Huckabee, and Ernie Walker.

Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. David Powell, Rev. Zach Roberts, and Randy Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Cardwell Cemetery. The family received visitors from 6-9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mike Clark, John Paul Clark, David Lynn Clark, Jimmy Bushong, Gary Blankenship, Larry Clark, Logan Bushong, and Ernie Walker.

Dempsey Theadore Wilson



Dempsey Theadore Wilson, 71, of Trumann, AR., died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born May 25, 1936, at Paragould to the late Hermon and Emma Wilson. He was of the Pentecost faith and worked for Singer Co. for 25 years, then Delta Wood Co. for 12 years where he retired.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, working in his yard, walking, fishing, reading and working puzzles. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Drew Wilson of the home; two daughters, Deborah Heckmann and husband Philip of Lake City and Tonya Sullivan of Jonesboro; three brothers, Vernon Wilson and Dennis Wilson, both of Trumann, and Ruddy Wilson of Kennett; two sisters, Barbara Donner and Joan Dawson, both of White Oak; and five grandchildren, Jonathan Sullivan, Anthony Sullivan, Christopher Sullivan, Kaitlyn Heckman and Lindsey Heckman.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gregg Funeral Home Chapel at Jonesboro with the Rev. Harold Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-7 in Gregg Funeral Home.

Mary Ruth Smelser

 

Mary Ruth Smelser, 80, of Paragould died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould. She was a homemaker and of Nazarine faith.

She was born November 21, 1927 the daughter of the late James Ernest Smelser and Ella Mae (Dickerson) Smelser. She is also preceded by three brothers: Bruce, Bert and Thomas Smelser; and five sisters: Eula Ford, Erie Green, Zuline Corner, Marie McGarraugh and Faye Partlow.

Surviving are one brother, Willie J. Smelser and one sister, Maxine Martin of Paragould

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2008 followed by funeral services at the Heath Colonial Chapel at 2:00 PM with Reverend Bob Lee and Reverend Eddie Gene Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Laverne Jones



Laverne Lila Stroud Jones, 76, died Friday, April 25, 2008, in the Belle Meade Nursing Home at Paragould.

Born at Walnut Ridge, she was a retired nurses aide and a member of Apple Hill Church of Christ. She was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, and her favorite flower was the yellow rose.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Williamson Lofton and husband Mike of Arbyrd, Mo.; one son, Larry Jones Jr. and wife Debby of Jonesboro: three sisters, Avo Monroe of Walnut Ridge, Barbara Sue Oswald of Jonesboro and Wanda Melton Swank of Alaska; one brother, Jerry Melton and wife Cookie of Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Melissa D. Jones and Tina Hazelwood, both of Jonesboro, and Holly DeSha Jones of Rogers; two grandsons, John Ryan Jones of Fayetteville and Chris Prather of Jonesboro; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Grace Stroud; one daughter, Debra Jean Jones; one son, John Morris Jones; and one sister, Mildred Christopher.

Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Pine Log Cemetery at Brookland with James King officiating under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro

William H. "Willie" Green, 81, of Kennett, Mo., died Friday, April 25, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Ark.

Born September 3, 1926, at Bark Camp, Mo., he was the son of the late Frank and Paralee Marler Green.

On June 26, 1948 in Piggott, AR., he married Royale Foster, who survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Pamela Grisham and husband, Kenneth, of Bragg City, Phyllis Palmer and husband Barry, of Kennett, Connie Green of Kennett, and Tracy Smallmon and husband, Jeff, of Paragould; two brothers, Jim Green of Sedgewickville, Mo., and Dan Green of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Lee Powers of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Vila Faye Grimes of Conway, Ark., and Frankie Sue Robbins of Jackson, Mo.; grandchildren, Layne Benson of Jonesboro, Chris Benson of Kennett, Paige Vandiver of Birmingham, Ala., Shannon Pillow of Paragould and Jeff Smallmon, Jr., of Paragould.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, April 27, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel at Kennett, with Dwight Harrison officiating.

Burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Grisham, Tommy Samples, Merle Frederick, Harold Lee Watson, James Hackworth and Curt Benson.

Mary Elizabeth Rowland

 

Mary Elizabeth Rowland passed from this life on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 27, 1931, at Paragould, to the late Clyde and Mildred Hester. Mary was a follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted member of East Side Baptist Church, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Bill Rowland; a daughter, Elaine Marshall, her husband, Bryant, and their son, Evan; a son, Mark Rowland, his wife, Carrie, and their daughters, Claire and Rachel, Survivors also include a brother, Mack Hester and wife, Anne; two sisters, Barbara Parks and husband, Bob, and Kay Merchant and husband, John, all of Paragould.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, at East Side Baptist Church, Paragould, with the Rev. Jason Noel and Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow at Finch Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joe Reeves, Kelly Wright, Dale Johnston, Michael Church, Bryan Reddick, and Ray Noel.

Walter Carroll Vinson

 

Carroll Vinson , 63, of Paragould, passed away on Monday April 28, 2008, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center. He was born in Trumann on March 17, 1945 to Otho and Hazel Vinson. Mr. Vinson was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Jonesboro and Craighead County for 29 years.  He loved fishing, Ford trucks and was of the Baptist belief.

He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Debbie; two daughters, Karen Johnson of Cash and Sharon Stephens of Jonesboro; three sisters, Linda Welch of West Memphis, Billie Jean Killion of Union City, TN and Susie Fagan of Trumann; and four grandchildren, Crystal Eastworth, Andrew Stephens, Amber Johnson and Hunter Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Eddie and Tony.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, beginning at 1:00 p.m, with Dr. Jim Shaw officiating.  Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-8 p.m at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will include Michael Stephens, Wesley Cogburn, Hansel Stephens and Herbert Granger.

Bonnie Louise Blackwell

 

Bonnie Louise Blackwell, 62, of Paragould died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. She was a homemaker and of Church of Christ faith.

Mrs. Blackwell was born September 30, 1945 in Greene County to the late J D. and Thelma Frost Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Blackwell.

Bonnie is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Doug Bailey of Paragould; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Chris and Beth Campbell of Texas, J. D., Jr. and Sandra Campbell of Florida and Michael and Wanda Campbell of Jonesboro; one sister and brother-in-law, LaDonna and Bobby Rogers of Paragould ; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred Jewel Pruett Cope, 94 of Rector died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 At the Evergreen Healthcare in Rector.

She was a homemaker and of  the Methodist Faith. Mrs. Cope was born March 22, 1914

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Ervin and Judy Belle Pruett; Her husband, John William Cope; a son, Billy Fay Cope; two brothers, Martin and Carl Pruett; a sister, Ruby Elsass ; a nephew, Ralph Ervin Pruett.

Mrs. Cope is survived by, a grandson and wife, Bradley Allen and Cindy Cope of Alpharetta, Georgia; two great granddaughters, Kristen and Hannah Cope of Georgia; two nephews, Donald Ray Pruett and Tony Pruett.

Randy Stanfill, 59, of Marmaduke passed away April 29, 2008, at his residence. He was born August 11, 1948, to the late William and Mable (Bass) Stanfill.

Randy was the owner of Stanfill Service Station and Muffler Shop of Marmaduke for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Stanfill; one son and his wife, Barrett and Angela Stanfill of Marmaduke; a son-in-law, Danny Turner; four brothers, Jerry Stanfill of Marmaduke, Jimmy Stanfill of Jonesboro, David Stanfill of Marmaduke, and Glen Stanfill of Doniphan, Mo.; six sisters, Racheal Henson of Doniphan, Edna Pollock of Marmaduke, Marsha Turner of Doniphan, Sherry Turner of Doniphan, Debbie Wealand of Doniphan, Pam Cunningham of Fairdealing, Mo.;  two half sisters, Mary Overholt and Jerris Hickman of Elkhart, Ind. and five grandchildren, Heather, Casey, Cory, Nathan and Mazie.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., May 1, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Marmaduke with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating.

Mary R. Rowe entered into heaven on April 29, 2008, at Greene Acres Nursing Home at the age of 82.

Funeral services were held at Roller Funeral Home, Mt. Home, Ark. She is survived by her daughters, Sharleena Whitney (Ross) of Paragould, Robin (Randy) Queen of Mt. Home, Melinda Eskew of Springdale and sons, Randy (Candy) Rowe of Yellville and Steve (Brenda) Rowe of Stronghurst, Ill.

She will be greatly missed, but will will see her again one day.

Monia Arizona Weaver VanDon, 92, of Paragould passed from this life into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

 Mrs.VanDon was born March 2, 1916, in Lorado, Ark., the daughter of Johnny Perkins and Martha Jeanetta Williams Weaver.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tilford VanDon; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Willis DeWayne VanDon, Elbert and Ethel VanDon; one grandson, Kevin VanDon; four brothers, Floyd Weaver, Oras Weaver, Woodrow Weaver, and Roy Weaver; one sister, Opal Crabtree and special sister-in-law, Evie Mae VanDon.

Mrs. VanDon is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Don Andrews; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Patricia VanDon and Freddy and Angelena VanDon; 12 grandchildren, Travis VanDon, Lena Quail, Stacey VanDon, Olivia Parks, Darlene Frost, Brad Andrews, Chad VanDon, Gina Bayird, Nash VanDon, Savannah Swindle, Joshua VanDon, and Gracen VanDon; six great-grandchildren, Isaiah VanDon, Justin Quail, Laci Frost, Tera Jane Williams, London Bayird, Spencer Bayird, Isaac Swindle, and Abigail Swindle; three great-great grandchildren, Micha Arizona Walker, Ethan VanDon, and Madeline VanDon and by one brother, J. P. Weaver. She is also survived by several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Winford Walters and Johnny Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Home Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., today at Heath Funeral Home.

Darrell Evert Hathcoat



Darrell Evert Hathcoat, 66, of Jonesboro was delivered into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Paragould, related to injuries from a motorcycle accident.

Born November 1, 1941 at Jonesboro, Darrell lived in the Jonesboro area most of his life. Darrell was an entrepreneur by trade and owned several businesses throughout his lifetime. He loved spending time with friends, riding his motorcycle and good food, and was loved by all.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Forkum Hathcoat and Curby Hathcoat; and one brother, Billy Joe Pierce.

Survivors include one child, a daughter, Karie Kay Hathcoat Whittle and spouse R. “Travis” Whittle III; three grandchildren, Zachary Travis, Meranda Kay and Nathaniel Trevor Whittle, all of Colonial Heights, Va.; and three sisters, Sandy Rose and Barb Leet, both of Michigan.

Honorable mention of Darrell’s youngest sister, Shawn Hathcoat, who was like a daughter to him “Shawn, thank you for being there for my Daddy, you are in our thoughts and prayers;” and a devoted friend, Wayne Hoffman, both of Jonesboro.
