The Paragould gridiron warriors, opened the football season with a rush yesterday at the Aggie field in Jonesboro, when they defeated the opposing team 6 to 0. The Jonesboro lads put up a game fight throughout and in the third quarter pushed their opponents back to the five yard line, but there they struck a stone wall in the Paragould held them from downs and after that was never in serious danger . During all except the third quarter the Paragould lads outfought and outplayed their opponents. Their backs penetrated the Jonesboro line at will. It seemed for a while as though the Paragould line might be arrested for assault and battery from the number of substitute Jonesboro had to run in. The only real ins Jonesboro made were from sweeping end runs by Quarterback Hatcher. All the Paragould backs were consistent ground gainers. The real thrill of the game came in the last ten seconds at play when Patton , left half for Paragould , intercepted a forward pass and ran forty yards for a touchdown . No attempt was made for goal as the people began surging across the field . |
