Downtown Street Lighting Will Be Stepped Up Friday Mayor J. Harry McPherson Asks Merchants To Keep Window Lights On Until 10 Mayor J. Harry McPherson announced today that he had appointed two-men committees for each block in the business district to ask merchants to keep their window display lights on til 10 p. m. each evening in an effort to brighten up the downtown area. The Lighting committee of the City Council reports that the lighting in downtown Paragould is under that of other towns of this size. The whiteway lights will be increased from 200 to 300 watts beginning next Friday. All Paragould is asked to join in making this city a better lighted town. The committees named by Mayor McPherson are: First block on Pruet, Robert Shaw an G. W. Harris; Second block, Euclid Green and Isaac Jenkins; Third block, Richard Mitchell and and Karl Potter; Fourth block, Harry J. Hooper and Joe Wessell; Fifth block, Tommie Scott and Claude Highfill; and Sixth block Bob Langley and Horton Oil Company; Main Street, Tom Watson and Leland Cox; Emerson Street, Victor Braden and Terry Wallace; Court Street, Bill Hammond and Bud McAllister; Popular Street, Bill DeVoll and Donald Stevenson; and Highland Street, Bud Ryan and Jay Kirchoff. |
