NEWTON & HIGHFILL, ABSTRACTERS
The rapid development that has taken place in Greene County in recent years, with the consequent increase in the number of real estate transfers, has fostered the up-building in Paragould of one of the finest equipped abstract plants in Northeast Arkansas. Both gentlemen rank among the most influential citizens in the county and have contributed both time and money toward making Paragould what she is today__the best city of its size and class in this section of the country. Mr. Newton is also Secretary-Treasurer of the National Farm Loan Ass'n., an institution that has been of inestimable value to the farmers. Mr. Highfill is Secretary-Treasurer of the Paragould Building and Loan Ass'n., also Food Administration for Greene County. FLIGOR'S CABINET WORKS Numbered among the well known enterprises of Paragould and one that has built up a substantial and growing patronage, is Fligor's Cabinet Works, located at the corner of Sixth and Junction Streets. This business has been operation about three years, although A. W. Filgor, the owner has been a citizen of Paragould for 25 years and is one of the best known business men in the city. Here is manufactured any and everything that can be made of wood and repair work is also executed in an efficient manner. Mr. Filgor is a cabinet maker of many years experience and the quality of his work places it in a class of its own. Power machinery is installed, enabling him to turn out all orders with dispatch. Mr. Filgor is too well known to the majority of our citizens to need any words of introduction. He has spent the greater part of his life in this community and has always done his full share in all matters calculated to benefit the city, county and State. WHITE HOUSE CAFE It is almost as invariable rule that in all important commercial centers there are certain houses in each line of trade which stand preeminent and have built up, by close attention to details a liberal patronage and an enviable reputation. Such an establishment in this city is the White House Cafe, located at 206 South Pruet Street. This business was founded in January, 1917. From the start it was given a liberal support and patronage by the best class of the local and traveling public and with the flight of time the business assumed the commanding position as a leader in its line in this section. This cafe is modern in point of equipment, being provided with tables and lunch counter and all up-to-the-minute conveniences. Both regular meals and a short orders are served and at popular prices. Their menu always included all of the delicacies that the market and season afford. A large and handsome soda fountain is installed and they also carry a full line of confectioneries, cigars, tobaccos, etc. This business is owned by O. B. Burnett, a man of ripe experience in this line and a citizen of the highest standing and prominence in the community. The White House Cafe is a credit to its owner as well as to the city. Mr. Burnett also owns the American Cafe at Cardwell, Mo., which is also thoroughly modern in equipment, and is managed by Bill Wood of Paragould. GEORGE M. CLARK The business circles of Paragould contain a few cases of more uniform success than that attained by Geo. M. Clark, and the success he has achieved has been through fair and square methods and close attention to details. He operates a well stocked suburban grocery and general merchandise store at 520 West Junction Street. He carries a comprehensive stock of the best goods obtainable from the representative manufacturers and jobbers. Mr. Clark is a native if Kentucky. Prior to coming to Paragould he resided in Illinois for a time. In September, 1905, he decided to go to Oklahoma and after traveling overland as far as Pocahontas, Ark., he stopped over there and later visited Paragould, and after looking the situation over decided to stay and has resided here ever since. He begun business with a capital of $275.00. Today he has a stock valued at $2,500.00, carries about $1,000.00 on his books, owns his own home and also his store building. He has made a success through his own efforts and business ability and enjoys the esteem of all. Manufacturers seeking a location will do well to investigate Paragould's advantage.
