Since the invention of printing by movable type about middle of the fifteenth century, there has been no period when the progress in this art was at a standstill. To look back and see the humble beginning of printing, which has developed into one of the leading industries of the world, ranking seventh in the United States in the amount of money invested. For three years it has been the recognized leader in its line business in Northeast Arkansas and during that time has built up a business connection which extends throughout this section. BLOCK & COMPANY INSURANCE In all lines of insurance Paragould has representatives of the strongest and most successful companies of the world. One of the recognized leaders in this important line is that conducted under the style of M. F. Block & Company, whose well appointed office is conveniently situated at 110 West Emerson Street. This company writes fire, tornado, plate glass, burglary, casualty, life, accident, health, liability, automobile and all other forms of insurance, also surety bonds. Its list of companies contains many of the oldest and strongest foreign and American Insurance concerns. This company was originally established about a quarter century ago and has been operated under its present style for about four years. The active head of the company is Mr. M. F. Block, who at present is in France with the Armed Forces. During his absence the business is being successfully managed by Mr. T. B. Kitchens and Miss Fannie Alexander of this city, both of whom are well known here and stand justly high in the business and social realms of the country. PARAGOULD CO-OPERATIVE CREAMERY A publication of any nature purporting to give a list of the representative enterprises of Paragould would be incomplete without mention of the Paragould Co-Operative Creamery. This plant is located on the corner of Main and Pruet Streets, opposite the Union Passenger Station, where a spacious two story brick building is utilized. Here id manufactured high grade ice cream, frozen dainties and creamery butter. The products of this plant have gained a wide spread popularity for their surpassing quality and excellence and are now sold by discriminating dealers throughout all territory within a radius of 125 miles of Paragould, also shipped to more distant commercial centers. Only the purest of ingredients are used and the plant is constantly kept in the most sanitary condition. They have a branch house at West Plains, MO. The most up-to-date machinery and equipments are installed and their facilities are such that they can and do handle a maximum expense. This company has done much to foster and encourage the dairy industry in Greene County by paying the farmer the highest cash price during all seasons for sweet milk and cream. The business has been i operation about 12 years. It is incorporated with a capitol of $10,000.00 and has for it's officers E. D. Woodburn, president; G. W. McHANEY BROTHERS, TAILORS The business of custom tailoring fills no incomplete rank in the business circles of Paragould, for there is a wide difference in the comfort, fit and appearance of the clothes made by an experienced tailor and those of the ready made clothier. A representative firm engaged in this line here is McHaney Brothers, located at 112 West Emerson Street. This business was established about 12 years ago and for three years the firm has been making all garments here in its own shop, having expert tailors employed. McHaney Brothers cater to the best class of trade and have built up a broad and growing patronage. They have done the most complete lines of samples and patterns to be found in this section and so varied are the prices and designs that they can and do please the most discriminating class of patrons. This firm also does cleaning, pressing and repair work in an efficient manner. The owners of the business are Bob and Claud McHaney, both of whom have resided here for years and are well known throughout this city and section. They are business men of ability and energy and their straightforward methods have enabled them to make friends as fast as they have made customers. Greene County is one of the richest agricultural counties in the state. |
