GRAND CENTRAL GARAGE COMPANY
When the
statement is made that Paragould is the leading automobile city in
Northeast Arkansas, the stranger in any other part of the world will once
appreciate the fact that the Greene County Metropolis also leads as a
commercial town. The large number of automobile in use in this community
makes Paragould admirably adapted for first-class garages and repairs
shops. Foremost among the enterprises of this nature is the Grand Central Garage
Co., at 111 West Highland Street. This concern does a general repair and
storage business, deal in accessories, oils, greases, gasoline, etc., and
are agents in this city and section for the justly famous Chandler
automobiles. This is an old established enterprise and has been under the
present ownership since February 1, 1918. The building utilized is a
modern structured and contains floor dimensions of 42x140 feet. The repair
department is in charge of skilled mechanics who know this line in all of it's
details and all work is turned out on short notice. Their prices are as
low as can be had anywhere. This business is managed by Bill McDonald Jr.
who is a manager of Greene County and one of the best known men in the
city. He is a man of pleasing personality, integrity and progressiveness
and gives ungrudgingly of his aid in promoting the best interests of his
home town and county. . CITY DRUG COMPANY In every community the well ordered pharmacy is a necessary and the skilled pharmacist most important factor, but to be of the greatest value the stock must be pure and of a high quality, also the skill and honesty of the pharmacist unquestioned. Paragould is fortunate in possessing the establishment of the City Drug Company, located at 112 N. Pruet Street. This business was established about 15 years ago. It is incorporated with an ample capital and ably, managed by R. R. Stewart, one of the more progressive of our younger set of business men, who is well known to the local public and enjoys the fullest confidence of the masses. This store is modern from a standpoint of equipment. The fixtures are of mahogany finish and all the stock is kept under glass and free from dirt and moisture. The stock carried comprises a complete line of drugs, chemicals, patent medicines, toilet requisites, stationary, Kodaks and supplies, cigars, tobaccos, etc., Three of their special lines are, "San-Tox" proprietary medicines, Eastman kodaks and Shumate razors. A specialty is made of compounding physicians prescriptions, this department being under the management of G. D. Sayle, another one of the city's energetic, hustling business men. THOMPSON & WEST GARAGE COMPANY The influence of the automobile upon the business world can hardly be measured in dollars and cents. Indeed, there is hardly a department of business today that has not been affected in a more or less direct manner by the motor car. Paragould probably has as many automobiles as any other city of its size in the country. Very prominent among those engaged in the sale of automobiles in this city is the Thompson & West Garage Co., located at 218 S. Pruet Street. This company is local distributor for the famous Buick automobiles, maintain a well equipped service station, do vulcanizing and deal in oils and gasoline. The business was founded on July 1, 1917, and since that date has built up a board and growing patronage. The firm is composed of J. A. Thompson and M. A. West, the latter being the active manager. Both rank high in the business circles of the community and are advocate of all measures that have for their object the advancement of the city and county.CLYDE MACK MERCANTILE COMPANY To the man who is discriminating in the matter of dress, there is no greater satisfaction than the knowledge that there is an establishment handy where he knows that the styles are the latest, the quality the best, and that the service he may expect is of that nature which assues him of a sincere desire upon the part of the management to suit his every wish and gratify his every desire. In the establishment of the Clyde Mack Mercantile Company, Incorporated, Paragould can lay claim to having one of the best stocked, most liberally conducted and best equipped gents' furnishing goods emporiums in Northeast Arkansas. This business came into being 22 years ago and has met with gratifying success from the first. The firm is located at 220-222 South Pruet Street, where a brick structure 45x90 feet in size is utilized. The store is a model of neatness, good taste and convenience. The fixtures are of the latest type, while the splendid stock carried comprises everything in the line of men's and boy's clothing, furnishings, hats, caps and shoes. In all articles of men's wearing apparel, from head to foot, this concern handles the latest and best, and gentlemen customers can rely upon finding here everything that constitutes a gentlemen's outfit of class and exclusiveness. The officers are Clyde Mack, President; L. B. Long, Vice-President; and Russell Mack, Secretary and Treasurer. The above named gentlemen, together with M. F. Dover, compose the board of directors of the company. They are all energetic and progressive; and fully alive to the community's interest as exemplified in their liberal patronage of any measure that might be advanced for for public good. J. C. ADAMS It is safe to say that in no other retail line is competition so seen as it is in the retail grocery business and among the houses that have long enjoyed the confidence of the local people, liberal mention is due J. C. Adams on East Lake Street. This is one of the old established grocery stores of the city. From the first, in dealing with the public this house has been liberal and painstaking; has always tried to give full value for every dollar received and to supply the public with merchandise that is fresh. High grade groceries and notions and the highest market prices are paid for country produce. Mr. Adams is a careful buyer and guarantees every article leaving his store to be of standard quality. He is courteous and obliging and has done his full share toward the material advancement of Paragould and vicinity. STAR BAKERY Pure, wholesome bread and bakery products is
an important item in the health and welfare of any community and Paragould
is fortune in its procession of the Star Bakery, located at 119 W Court Street.
