PUT OUT THAT FIRE !
Not long after my wife and I were married, on a Saturday, my brother, Morris, and his wife and children came to visit for the weekend. My brother, Delbert came also and brought two of his boy friends with him. They were Tad Williams and Boots Rushin. Those two boys and my brother, Delbert, were full of mischief as any boys could be. I was always inclined to believe that no one would tell me a falsehood, and I have been cheated in a lot of trades because I did not think anyone would misrepresent anything. On this Saturday evening it was coming up a bad looking cloud. Our women folks were trying to prepare our evening meal. My wife had dressed two chickens and was making a big pot of dumplings. She had a hot fire in her old wood cook stove. The cloud kept coming closer, looking deathly black. Tan Williams and Boots Rushin kept looking at the cloud. They were walking the yard as though they were scared half to death. They were not scared at all, they were just trying to make me miserable because I was so scared of a bad cloud. Finally they said, "This cloud will blow us all away. If I were you, I would put out the fire in that cook stove." I, at once, grabbed a big bucket of water and ran in and took off a stove cap and dashed a bit bucket of water in that hot stove. Well, by this time the cloud had gone around us. We never got any storm, but I had kicked up a storm with my wife, for she was in the middle of preparing her supper for all of our company. I took two full hours to reheat the stove again. Those mean boys were the cause of me watering out the stove, although there was a bad storm in that cloud. When we got the news of it, it had blown away a lot of people.
