J.W. Cagle, age 83, of Sheridan (Ico Community), died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 31, 1926 in Center Ridge, Arkansas, a son of the late Charles and Claudia Wylie Cagle. Mr. Cagle was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during World War II, serving in the South Pacific on the USS Torchwood. He was a charter member of Green Memorial Southern Baptist Church in Little Rock before moving to Ico and joining Orion Missionary Baptist Church in Redfield. Mr. Cagle was a fifty one year member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as Past Master at Gavel and Paron Lodges. He also worked as a machine technician for forty two years with D.A Sparks, Inc. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cagle was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Arlie, Cecil, and Lloyd Cagle; four sisters, Maybelle Johnson, Erie McGinty, Bronnie McGinty, and Jewell Cagle. He is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Margie Irwin Cagle of Ico; daughter and son in law, Diana and Tommy Stockton of Ico; two grandsons, Jason (Janet) Stockton, Justin (Stacy) Stockton, both of Ico; four great grandchildren, Kristen, Emily, Abby, and Kennedy, all of Ico; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Orion Missionary Baptist Church in Redfield with Brother John Mooney officiating. Burial followed at Bethel North Cemetery in Ico. Pallbearers were: Tommy Stockton, Jason Stockton, Justin Stockton, George Barnhill, Jerry Spann, and Conrad Speir. Honorary pallbearers were: Members of the Gavel Masonic Lodge # 532. The family requests memorials may be made to Orion Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, Redfield, AR, Gavel Masonic Lodge # 532 in Sheridan, or Alzheimer’s Foundation, 10411 West Markham Suite 130, Little Rock, AR 72205.
