TAYLOR CEMETERY,
MYATT, FULTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS
Taylor Cemetery #1, is located
on Gut Creek, approximately 1 mile upstream from the intersection of Gut Creek
and Spring River.
It was started in 1862, with the burial of James Madison Taylor (b. 12 Apr 1824).
It was dedicated by Jennetta Taylor to her son, J. A. Taylor and his heirs, to
be forever used as the final resting place for anyone departing this life.
The ownership was transferred with the sum of one dollar and by documents filed
in the Fulton County Courthouse on 11 Nov 1889.
Most, but not all, of the plots in the cemetery are the burial place of
descendants of James and Jennetta.
James Madison Taylor died of pneumonia.
It is said that he raised from his bed in the
homestead cabin, looked through cracks between the logs and said, "bury me
up by those big oak trees".
Taylor Cemetery overlooks a beautiful expanse of the Spring River valley and is
highlighted by the most enormous oak trees in the area and maybe in the county.
There is no particular order in which the plots are
listed.
Many of the inscriptions were difficult to read accurately.
Dates were recorded using the standard genealogical form of "DAY MONTH
YEAR" and are not necessarily the manner in which they were inscribed on
the stones.
