I am seeking some
information on some of my ancestors. The names are Jeremiah Bassett and his
wife Rachel. Jeremiah purchased land in Fulton
county in 1859 and 1860, but we can't seem to find any record of them after
that date. I did find a record for W.A. Bassett (who I am pretty sure is
their son) listed as fighting for the 14th Arkansas Confederate Infantry. I
am kind of wondering if they might have gotten killed or at least lost their
farm during the war since they had Southern sympathies. Any information would

Walter born 11/30/1886. A daughter Rose Etta born 1/22/1890. After giving
birth to my grandmother on the 22nd she (Mattie) died on 1/26/1890. Now that
I have written a novel, is there any census records around 1870 or so that
might indicate a family Blackburn with these
offspring names? Cemetery records maybe Whitley Love? Anything would be

Burks
|
I am researching the
BURKS family. I can take these Burks back to the mid 1700s. There are other
Burks in Fulton
County at the same time
period as Jesse who may be related. There is too much to put in a simply
query, But I will be happy to send you a file. My direct line, inside
Arkansas, begins with Jesse Burk, born in Douglas Texas, he married Susanna
B. ?, Their Children, (my great grandmother was) Amanda F. Burk, Dec, 14,
1847, Joseph S. Burk, May 10, 1855, Andrew Jackson Burk, Dec 26, 1857, and
Edie E. Burk, Aug 10, 1860. We believe there could have been one more child
named Thomas Burk. My line continues with Amanda Burk (wife of Rasp White,
married 2nd. Wiley Green,) their daughter, Ruth C. White, married William
Preston Holloway, then their son Will Holloway married Enid Mae McDonald,
then myself, Peggy Holloway-Thompson. If you have any questions please
contact me.

Chapman
|
I am searching for information about Thomas and Martha J.
CHAPMAN listed on the Myatt, Fulton Co. Arkansas 1900 Federal Census Page 196B
dwelling 176. Thomas CHAPMAN is listed as the Postmaster and that he owned
his own home. He was 63 (br.
may1837 ILL.) his parents are listed as from Tenn.
His wife Martha J. (no maiden name) CHAPMAN is listed as 41 (br. 1858
MO.) and her father from Ky and mother from Tenn.
It indicates that they were married for 18 years and she had one
child, but the child is not listed on the census here. I believe that this is the same Thomas
Chapman who lived in Johnson
County in 1880 with his
wife Lousette and children. He
went to West Virginia
at one point and collected his pension from civil war, then returned to
Fulton Co. He was in Carroll abt
1870 and Newton Co. abt 1860 with his father Andrew CHAPMAN. His son William Franklin Chapman
married Sarah Jane MCENTIRE in late 1890's in Marion County, Ark and lived in
Pyatt. Does anyone know this
group? The maiden name of
Martha? The child? What happened to them? He was in Carroll abt 1870 and newton Co. abt 1860 with his father Andrew. Family names
searching: CHAPMAN, BALDWIN,

family only lived there a few years and moved back to Lauderdale CO TN after
Ida's death. We would be grateful for any help in finding this obituary and

This family subsequently moved to Evening Shade (Sharp Co) area. However, a
son was named James MORRIS Clark, raising possibility that there may be a
link to the Morris family of Fulton
county. Mary Elizabeth Clark m. Winfield Scott SOUTHWORTH in 1869. Southworth was a Methodist minister

Cozean
|
Looking for any information on the COZEAN family. My George Washington COZEAN asked WA D
C for land or pension in 1854, and part of the application stated that he was
a resident of Fulton County,
Arkansas. I previously found him on the 1850
Lawrence Co. AR census in Lebanon Twp.
He lived on the Strawberry
River which later
became part of Sharp Co. He was
paying taxes in Lawrence Co. in 1835/6, and served about 6 mo. in a
volunteers group of Mounted Guns, 1836-7. He married in St. Francois Co. Mo in
Jan 1838 and lived in Missouri
until about 1848-9, when he moved back to Lawrence Co. AR. So he was in AR then until he died
sometime before Oct. 1854, the date of his widow's remarriage, to John
Underwood. I find the name spelled
COZEAN, CAZINE, COZZENNE, KISZENE.
I have information on his wife and the children, but I need
information on him before 1835, and on his parents, and birthplace. Virginia Cozean Holter

Cozean,

|
George Washington COZEAN. This man was on the Lawrence County
1850 census, Lebanon Twp. That is
the only time I ever found him on a census. Records prove that he died in
1854. He had sent into WA DC for
bounty for service of 1836-7, and those papers say he is a resident of Fulton
Co. (after the census, and before his death, early 1850's). Denied. The property he bought in 1851 was on
the Strawberry. This was later
Sharp Co. His wife was Eliza J.
WHITE. I have records of the
children and also after his death, for the guardianship of them by Eliza's
father Elias White of Madison Co. MO.
I cannot find out anything about him or of his relatives before 1836,
when he was on the tax records of Lawrence Co. AR. I cannot find a cemetery where he is
buried. I cannot find church
records. The military records
spell the name COZIAN also. Any
information about him or his blood relatives is most welcome. Family tradition says he came from Canada. When? From where? Who were his parents? Why did the application to WA DC say
he was a resident of Fulton Co? I
do not think he is of the family from Independence Co. named CROZINE/CORZINE
who came from NC; I worked on that a long time.

Fulton County, Big Creek TWP. I am searching
cemetery records for Eli L. CRACRAFT.
He appears on the 1900 census, VOL 13, ED 23, sheet 10, line 90. His wife is Charolotte, and a daughter
age 16 named Mary M. Believe he
died abt. 1910. Would like to know
where he is buried and if his wife is also buried with him. Also would like
to know if an obituary from a local newspaper might exist? Maybe there is a biography written in
the county history about him?

My
great-great-grandparents are supposed to be buried at Moten Church
Cemetery at Mammoth
Springs, Ar. My Mom got an old newspaper clipping of their death and burial
and that cemetery was in the clipping (no date). Their names were Sallie
Ellis (which the clipping was about her death and she was 102 yrs. old when
she died), she was buried by her husband (Uncle) Wince Ellis. They settled at
Mammoth Springs, native from North
Carolina which was then an Indian camping ground
known as (Head of the River) in 1852. She lived on the farm for 41 years
which was 4 miles south of Mammoth Springs. (Uncle)Tom Wooldridge conducted
the service whom was acquainted with the deceased more than a half a century.
She was buried at Moten
Church graveyard. They
had a daughter who married a Rally Whiteside but my mom isn't sure of her
grandmother first name but does know her grandfather was Rally Whiteside;
they have a daughter named Rose Whiteside which was my mom's (mother), my
grandmother, and she married Henry Jefferson Rush which was my mom's (father)
my grandfather. There was also two other Rally Whiteside daughters, Icie
Whiteside, Dora Whiteside and a son Tommy Whiteside. Please e-mail me if
anyone finds the gravesites of Sallie & Wince Ellis, or if anyone has any
information on them. Can anyone tell me if there are any OLD newspapers,
etc., in existence that I could find the dates of death for Sallie and/or
Wince Ellis?

acres listed on June 6, 1905, in Fulton Co. He also had 160 acres listed in

120, 160 acres-is this government land bounty from military service? Anyway,
I am looking for anyone else who is searching this Ellis line. My
great-grandmother was Susan J. Page from Grant Co. They were married Dec. 19,
1880, in Hot spring Co. If anyone in Fulton Co. knows of these Ellis's,

I am trying to locate
the burial place for my great grandparents, Joseph Fountain and Sarah Lavina
Culp Fountain. Not certain of the dates, but he died about, 1896 and she died
about 1902-04, in Fulton

at Wild Cherry. Would there be any source available that covers these dates?
Or is there anyone available to do lookups? Thank you for any help you can

John Robert FOUNTAIN, born Feb. 1873 in Wild Cherry, Fulton
Co., Arkansas.
He married Lona Belle WATSON, born Mar 1876, in 1894. Children include: James
Homer, Zelma Agnes, Clarence E., Virgil Hutton, Nell...Trying to connect John
Robert to his parents. Could they have been Edward and Sarah FOUNTAIN living
in Fulton Co. in 1860, and in Izard
County in 1880? On the
1900 census, John Robert states that both of his parents were born in Arkansas. Lona Belle
lists her parents as being born in Georgia. A family Bible has her
mother's name as Pliny OWEN, who is probably the Pelina WATSON listed on the
1900 census. Any clues? Thanks- Victoria Cobb Fountain

I am uncertain if Jacob
Bishop Gilbert was in Fulton County, but some of the family lived in neighboring
county Clay. Pocahontas is known to us. As is
Maynard. Jacob Bishop Gilbert (as far as we know) was born Nov 1849 and died
in 1931 (supposedly in Pittman). I have posted a request with someone near
Pittman in hopes of finding a death record. As for family names: His first
wife we think was Mary Cooper. His second wife's name was Rutherford (?). My
line came from his son, Herschel Bishop Gilbert, born I believe in 1891. What
I hope to find are his parent's names.

I have family from
Mammoth spring and have been looking for a very long time trying to find my
grandfathers mothers name and have had no luck. Her name is Estella Francis
Godwin. Her maiden name was Hill. She married Agrippia Wesley Godwin. They
had two children, Leman Agrippia and Lloyd. She Died when my grandfather was
two yrs old. His aunt and uncle raised him and assumed that his birth day was
around November 5th 1917. I think his mother was 20 or 21 when she died. They
don't know for sure but we think she died of pneumonia. I have been told the
court house that held the records of his birth burned down. I was told she
was buried just out side Mammoth spring in a small town. If there is anyway
you can give me information on this I would be very grateful.

information as to who their parents were and where they resided before moving

as to who are buried in Talley
Cemetery available and
the dates of death and birth? Are there any newspaper archives available

Hackworth
|
In the Burks Chapel Cemetery,
there are 2 listings for the surname HACKWORTH. This interests me greatly
because my ggfather was born in Arkansas
& it is a large area to research without any known county!!! Do you have
any volunteers that might be able to check census or vital records for the
time frame 1870-1880? Although, the dates of the persons listed in the
cemetery indicate that they would not be parents of Jorell, since there is
one family listed it is at least a starting point. My ggfather's name is
Jorell Richard HACKWORTH (b. 14 Nov 1869, Arkansas). Parents are unk, only sibbling
that I have a name for is "Molly" & I do not know if she is
older or younger. Jorell was married & starting a family in Oklahoma in 1886. ANY
sighting of a HACKWORTH surname would be a tremendous boost to my effort of
family history & I would gladly take up the chase from there. Additional
info for Jorell is that throughout his life he was also listed & referred
to as "Joe" or "Joseph".
Fed land bureau records
indicate 4 land patents for Fulton Co., Arkansas area:
HACKWORTH, James -- 11/13/1895

Hall
|
I have hit a brick
walls on my Hall lines, so I thought I would pose a question that may provide
a break through and at least give us something to chuckle about. Do any of
you have and Hall ancestors that were hung as horse thieves in England?
At one point in time my grandfather Elmon Hall had the ancestry compiled on
his family. The story passed down to me was that his wife's line was related
to Stephen "Grover" Cleveland (the late president) and John Hancock
(of Declaration of Independence fame), but his most notable ancestors on the
Hall line were horse thieves that were hung in England. One evening as the
family was perusing the information, family members began teasing him about
the contrast in his family background and his wife's. He apparently did not
have too good a sense of humor about the teasing and gathered all the papers
and threw them into the fireplace, where they quickly were turned to ashes.
Needless to say, no one in the family ever mentioned it to him again, but the
story has been passed down ever since. In my research, I did find a direct
connection to Cleveland
and a connection by marriage to John Hancock, so I believe the story is more
fact than fiction, especially given the very formal nature of this
grandfather. I have traced this Hall line back to Dr. John A. HALL who was
born in Cincinnati, Ohio
about 1825, became a medial doctor in Tennessee,
married Hanna Elizabeth BEMIS(S) in Tippecanoe,
Indiana in 1848, moving to Danville, Illinois
in about 1875 where he remained till his death in 1896. I have yet to find
any further information on him regarding his parents or possible siblings,
though I am following up on a Lawrence Hall naturalized in Tippecanoe,
Indiana about the time of John's marriage to
Hanna, as the given name of Lawrence
has been used several times in successive generations. I do know that John's
father was the original immigrant from England. My husband is also
descended from a Hall line which we have traced back to a Will or William
Hall in Arkansas.
We know he died sometime after about 1970, but haven't located his exact
location or birth or death dates as yet. This William had at least one son
named Eulis Hall born Sept 3, 1909, and died Nov, 1981 in Salem, Arkansas.
Eulis's wife was Velma Lane
born Oct. 14, 1910 and died May 29, 1997 in Franklin, Arkansas.
Please contact me if anyone has any possible connections to either of these
Hall lines, or if you have any rumors of ancestors that were hung as horse
thieves in England.
Looking forward to some interesting replies on this post! LOL

did not get married til after 1890; both hopefully in Marion county. John and Pearl were know to have family in Yellville
around 1950's, that had businesses. I noticed there is a Haynes cemetery in Fulton county, but, no
clues to the Haynes family. I know this is not much to go on, but, I am

is correct but it says she lived in Myatt Township with a Pilot Hill post
office...any information on her would be appreciated. She was only 36 at the
time, but can't find any info that she may have remarried or where she may be
buried.

HEAD, Simon E. (born Mo. 26 Nov 1858, d. 23 May 1946) and Mary E., wife (b. Mo. 30 Sep 1864, d. 9
Nov. 1942); lived at Mammoth Springs for years; Simon was a marble dealer;
two children, Howard and Marion Wallace Head. Both Simon and Mary are buried
in Riverview Cemetery,
Fulton County. Would like very much to know
names of Simon and Mary's parents, along with which county they moved from/
were born in, in Missouri.
Would also like to find descendants. Too, can anyone tell me if there's a
Mammoth Springs newspaper on microfilm, maybe, that I could obtain copies of
Simon and Mary's obituaries from--and that newspaper's name? Thanks!
