Elizabeth Cemetery

Surveyed by Della J. (Sanders) Glenn, in the early 1980s. This survey is not complete. The cemetery is located about 1/2 mile northeast of Elizabeth, Arkansas, in Fulton county. The land for the cemetery may have been donated by Tom H. Hammond. This is an old cemetery and there is an old arbor in the cemetery that is still used for dinners on Decoration Sunday, which is always the 4th Sunday in May. People meet there, mainly from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, take their dinner, eat under the old arbor and visit with one another, having a great time. There is some seating in the arbor and many people take their chairs. Some people make the trip back every year, to decorate the graves and visit the living. The directions to the cemetery are:

From the Elizabeth Post Office, go north about 500 feet to a "Y" in the road. Take the right, go about 300 feet and turn right again. Continue east about 1/4 mile to the cemetery on the right side of the road.

Many thanks to Della for submitting the following information.

NOTES by submitter: R.A. Sanders (Alex Roe Sanders), death date on stone is wrong, it should be 1969, the tombstone was donated by an extended family member with the misinformation. He was born Roe Alex Andrew Sanders. He later changed the name to Alex Roe Sanders.

Mary Dorene Sanders: Stillborn. She was a twin, her brother survived.

Grandmother Jane Taylor: There is a "Grandfather Daniel Taylor", (no dates), buried in the Flora Cemetery, Fulton county, Arkansas.
