The first school in Sparkman was started in 1914. This first class had
132 students enrolled. The first building was a two-story frame
building, with eight classrooms. The first Principal was Mr.
H. O. Thweatt. Teachers included: Ms. Ethel (Fite) Leamons,
with of Scott Leamons; & Miss Ella Adams, of Arkadelphia. With
the growth of the Sparkman, enrollment increased to 165 in
1916 and 190 in 1917. To graduate, you only need to complete
the eleventh grade, in 1926, that changed
to include the twelfth grade.
A new brick building was constructed in 1926 by W. P. Sinquefield. In 1927, Sparkman School District was consolidated with Pine Grove. Later Dalark, Fairview, Holly Springs, Manning, Ouachita, and Shady Grove were consolidated into the present Sparkman District No. 4. By 1968, the Sparkman Schools became integrated.
