Virginia LaFayette (Davis) Gray

In the fall of 1860, Oliver & Virginia arrived by stagecoach to Princeton, Dallas County, from Holly Springs, Marshall County, Mississippi. Once in Princeton, Oliver became Principal of The Princeton Female Academy which was founded in 1854. The above pictures are from William Boggess, a descendant of Oliver & Virginia Gray.

First Generation

1. Colonel Oliver Crosby GRAY. Oliver was born in 1832. Oliver died in 1906. Oliver is buried in Evergreen Cemetery,Washington County, Arkansas (headstone photos).

Oliver married Virginia LaFayette DAVIS (headstone photo), daughter of George DAVIS (headstone photo) . Virginia was born in 1834. Virginia died in 1886. Virginia is buried in Evergreen Cemetery,Washington County, Arkansas.

They had the following children:

          2            i.          Carl Raymond (1867-1939)

          3           ii.          Clyde Leslie (Died as Infant) (1859-1861) (headstone photo.)

 

In 1889 Oliver married Mary "Molly" Melbourne BORLAND, daughter of Dr. Solon BORLAND (1808-1864) & Mary, in Arkansas.

Family of Colonel Oliver Crosby GRAY (1) & Virginia LaFayette DAVIS

  

2. Carl Raymond GRAY (Oliver Crosby1). Carl was born in Princeton, Dallas County, Arkansas, on 28 Sep 1867. Carl died in Washington, D. C., on 9 May 1939; he was 71.

On 6 Dec 1886 when Carl was 19, he married Harriette FLORA, daughter of John A. FLORA, in Oswego, Labette County, Kansas. Harriette was born in Liberty, Montgomery County, Kansas, on 17 Sep 1869. Harriette died in Maine on 17 June 1956; she was 86.

 

They had the following children:

          4            i.          Carl Raymond (1889-1955)

          5           ii.          Russell Davis (1899-1975)

          6          iii.          Howard Kramer (1901-1955)

 

3. Clyde Leslie GRAY (Oliver Crosby1). Clyde was born in Monticello, Wright County, Minnesota, on 19 Feb. 1859. Clyde died in Arkansas on 6 Apr 1861; he was 2. Clyde was buried in Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Dallas County, Arkansas.

 

No Children.

4. General Carl Raymond GRAY Jr. (Carl Raymond2, Oliver Crosby1). Carl was born on 14 Apr 1889. Carl on 2 Dec 1955; he was 66.

 

5. Russell Davis GRAY (Carl Raymond2, Oliver Crosby1). Russell was born on 2 Nov 1899. Russell died in Nov 1975.

 

6. Dr. Howard Kramer GRAY (Carl Raymond2, Oliver Crosby1). Howard was born in 1901. Howard died on 6 Sep 1955 in Minnesota.

 

Howard Kramer married Lila.
