SMITH
My great uncle, Ezekiel Smith moved from Missouri to Texas then to
Arkansas in the late 1800's. I have letters sent to relatives in MO in
which he said he was in the vicinity of Evening Shade. I found an Ezekiel
Smith listed in the Bureau of Land Management records for Columbia County,AR
as homesteading land in 1895. I would like information on this Ezekiel
Smith. My great uncle Ezekiel was born in 1848 in Wayne County, MO. He
married Mattie Coleman and they had two children, a son named Willie and
a daughter named Hattie. If any one can help me determine if the Ezekiel
in Columbia County was my great uncle, I would appreciate it very much.
I would like to find descendents. Thanks in advance, Dale Smith
STRANGE/POWELL/BRYAN/BRYANT/WATKINS/PRICE/RENTFROW/EDMONDSON/YORK
John D. STRANGE signed the surety for Reuben B. BRYANS marriage to
my ancestor Elizabeth Pernice WATKINS[Mrs. George A. PRICE]. Bond in Columbia
Co. 15 Oct, 1877. Reuben's first marriage in Lauderdale Co., AL 1847 was
to Emeline D. RENTFROW performed by Samuel EDMONDSON of Limestone Co...next
door. One of the BRYANS I've speculated is related is a William Bethel
BRYAN found in Limestone Co. Reuben's daughters by his first marriage was
named Latha L. One of Reuben's sons by his first marriage was John D. and
John D. named one of his daughers Lethe or Latha or Lithamilda[I've found
it all ways]. Reuben's brother Thomas C. BRYAN and his wife Mary Jane YORK
named one of their daughters, Letha or Latha AND one of their daughters
or son[census says female] was shown as Bitheal which could be a form of
Bethel. It is possible that a John D. STRANGE whose wife was Martha Ann
POWELL, dau of Caleb Bethel POWELL and Latha Jane BRYANT is the same John
D. STRANGE and possibly related to my BRYANS. Martha Ann POWELL was b.
Limestone Co., AL and died Columbia Co. Thomas & Reuben BRYAN[T], John
D. STRANGE and Caleb POWELL all owned land in Columbia Co. If anyone can
shed some light on the connection of John D. STRANGE to the BRYAN[T]s,
please contact me directly at stamperi@mindspring.com.
